Was looking for a book today when I saw these various animal books all on the same shelf and noticed their titles made a nice little impromptu poem about veterinary medicine

myth of the bare palm
text:
Our kind used to be hulking things of feathers and claws,
more gods than animals, roaming the snowed planes endless,
until we found each others
and in jubilant relief reached out
claws retracting,
feathers shedding,
so the moment of contact branded heat against bare skin.

ATTENTION ROMANTICS, JANEITES, BYRONISTS, GEORGIANS, & OTHER 19TH CENTURY NERDS!
this website jane austen's music has resources all about the music jane austen composed by hand, like a link to this song captivity.
this website romantic-era songs has recordings of a bunch of music that was popular in the romantic era, including recordings of poetic works that were originally intended to be set to music. examples incl. lord byron's famous poems vision of belshazzar (a real banger!) & she walks in beauty (not what i expected having read it beforehand without it's music, but it was byron's own favorite to listen to). i really love this one the waters of elle by lady caroline lamb, also composed by isaac nathan. he was a famous jewish-english musician who later relocated to australia and introduced classical music there, & is thus sometimes called "the father of australian music" (apparently, according to his wiki, he was also the first person in the southern hemisphere to die in a tram incident after he got there... oddly specific factoid, but alright).

Song-Resembling Thing
maybe I'm misinterpreting things again
oh maybe I am
maybe I'm tryna make something outa nothing
oh maybe I am
yeah maybe I am
i think there might be something wrong
inside
I think there might be something wrong
with my mind
something mighta done it
something mighta pushed me over the edge
but I don't know what real or what's fake
all I know's this could be another big mistake
yeah okay
maybe I'm just another love drunk fool
oh maybe I am
maybe I've deluded myself, am I lovable?
oh maybe I am
yeah maybe I am
i think there might be something wrong
inside
i think there might be something wrong
with my mind
something mighta done it
something mighta pushed me over the edge
but I don't know whats real or whats fake
all I know is that this could be another big mistake
your dark red hair, your brown eyes
somehow they remind me of
her blonde hair, her blue eyes
somehow they remind me of
her black hair, her dark eyes
somehow they remind me of
her dark hair, her dark eyes
yeah somehow they remind me of
somehow they remind me of you
i think there might be something wrong
inside
i think there might be something wrong
with my mind
something mighta done it
something mighta pushed me over the edge
but I dont know whats real or whats fake
all I know is that this could be another big mistake
maybe
just maybe
it's not me it's you
maybe
just maybe
I can't help but love you
maybe
just maybe
it's not me it's you
maybe
just maybe
I just can't lose you

a lot of people will think that in a hundred years, all memory and talk of them will be forever erased
but then we write on desks, carve our names into trees, write our heights on doorframes, document our lives in paper, leave little imprints of who we are into our world
and so no
you will not be forgotten forever, because we still find little glimpses of their lives too
a pot buried in what was someone's backyard, handprints far up but oh so little that they could have only reached with help from their family, stone carved into to tell stories of life and myth, bones that show that they were loved because there are fractures that have healed
you will not be forgotten

the LHL experience is just "this is wonderfully silly and very cute and this case to solve is very fun and clever" to "this is emotionally devastating me. im having my heart destroyed. im eating this deftly sewn story-telling for breakfast" and it just switches back and forth between those moods until you get very unwell about it and have to write 5000 words meta

My heart is constantly on the run.
I've loved and loved but that love has never been blessed on me.
And when I look in the mirror I always see a stranger staring back.
I don't know that I've ever heard the words "I love you" and believed it.
Eventually everyone leaves. Usually by choice but sometimes indirectly.
I used to believe if you hoped hard enough love would find it's way to you.
But I've learned that people are tricky and
Forever is just for a while.
And maybe one day my views will change and I'll be made a believer.
But one day may never arrive and I've come to terms with that.
Instead I'm going to fall for that stranger in the mirror and pray that I am enough.
Because my heart is constantly on the run and there's no looking back.

tired
i’m so sick
of being one to understand
not one to be understood
never being one who did
and being one who never could
being the one left to die
alone in the woods
being good
but never enough
being hot headed
but never tough
being stupid
even though i’m young
never knowing where to turn
so i just sit and huff and puff
being one in the herd
drowned out in the fog
it’s hard being so ordinary
when your an
“angel”
and never a “god”.

I missed making blackout poetry, so, here’s one created from the opening page magazine reviews of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos.
[Image ID: A blackout poem with the background superimposed with two silhouetted figures looking out at a starry sky. The poem reads:
It is an eminently majestic achievement,
past, present, and future,
we exist,
framed by the wonders of the cosmos
and the vastness of space.
End Image ID]
