📣 Check out this incredible set of late Medieval splint/brigandine arm armor! 🛡️
Crafted with 16-gauge steel poleyns, this armor provides excellent protection for the arms. The upper and lower leg armor is made from thick and tough quality leather, riveted with strips of steel. 💪
This combination of materials makes it difficult for any opponent to cut through the leg armor. The thick leather is a formidable barrier, offering significant resistance to piercing and puncturing. 🚫⚔️
Not only does this armor provide outstanding protection, but it also reduces the amount of steel required, resulting in a lighter overall weight. Perfect for the Medieval warrior who values practicality and effectiveness.

People often said that pilots were unimpressive when outside their craft, and Revila was intensely aware of how much that applied to herself and Poleyn. Disconnected from the power and strength of the Wrath they became just two skinny Nostraman street kids wearing dark blue VIII Legion flight suits in dire need of a wash.
She already itched to fly again.

Armour of the English Knight: 1430-1445
Tumblr media
Source: Armour of the English Knight
Helmet: Great bascinet skull tending to be less pointed and more rounded. The outer front neck plate starting to be subtly shaped to the chin and throat. Cuirass: Two-part design generally adopted by 1430. Plackart generally attached to the upper breastplate by means of a central strap and side-straps, although the side-straps become less common after 1440. The same essential construction appears to be employed in the rear. Waist lame and skirts worn as a separate assembly from the upper and lower breast- and backplates, allowing waist pivoting and rotation. The skirt itself reaches its greatest length, reaching almost beyond the mid-thigh, with no mail visible below it. Tassets introduced as narrow, oblong plates strapped to the front and sides of the lowermost lame of the skirt. Shoulder Defences: Spaudlers worn with ovoid or heater-shaped besagews, now often fluted and slightly concave in form. The spaudlers beginning to be extended at the back to increase protection and maintain overlap with the backplate when in motion. Usually designed to extend up to the sides of the neck, underlapping the base of the great bascinet. Vambraces: Remain symmetrical with fully-enclosed upper and lower cannons, largely unchanged from the previous decade apart from the design of the wing, which is starting to be sculpted more deeply into the bend of the elbow. Gauntlets: Usually now a more advanced form of the fingered hourglass design, having a pointed cuff and articulated wrist. Leg armour: Demi-cuisses disappearing, poleyn wing now beginning to be shaped into the back of the knee. Fully enclosed cuisses and greaves hinged on the outer faces and closed with either straps or loose- pin clasps on the inner faces. Sabatons: Overplates now discarded in favour of a simpler construction of straight-edged lames of roughly equal width. At this time some sabatons appear to have had articulated plates running up the ankle and under the front of the greave.

"And? What did you decide on?" Duke asks, fork slipping from his mouth and chewing, focused on Danny.
The boy in question hums. "Oh yeah, I'm totally joining in on the nightlife."
The statement has all of them stopping in their tracks, blatantly staring at the still eating boy.
"This will be my emo arc, daylight vigilante turned dark."
Tim snorts, Jason gives a smirk, nudging the eldest sibling next to him from his frozen state.
"Ooooh," Steph leans forward. "Have you decided? Bat or Bird?"
"New name?" Cass jumps in on the questioning with a small smile, eyes crinkling.
"Will you be joining us tonight then, danyal?" His twin speaks up for the first time during dinner, eyes narrowed and calculating.
"Yes." Is the short reply, with the way damian's lips turn down and displeasure makes itself clear, the intention of giving such a short answer has been met.
"Danny," Bruce gains the attention, leaning forward with his fingers interlocked and brows furrowed with what must be worry.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to feel pressured into this just because everyone else is—"
"I'm more than sure, B!"
The man sighs. "And I won't be able to stop you?"
"Mhm." He gives a nod.
"Okay," his shoulders sag in defeat. "Do you have everything then—?"
"Yep!"
"Even—"
"B, I'm pretty sure I got everything, you can, if in your opinion I am missing something, give it to me later!"
Danny grins, pushing himself up from the table and rounding around towards the door.
"Besides! My whole get up will be a suprise!! So stay awake folks because I'm gonna blow ya all away."
As he leaves, Steph and Duke make sounds of anticipation, curiosity eating at all of them.
(They dont know whats gonna hit 'em.)
"I'm betting 50 bucks that he's gonna be a bat."
Alfred shakes his head at the newfound excitement.
What an exciting night.
There is still no sight of their newest, despite oracle's teasing, having apparently already been included in the suprise.
"Well well well," a sly, yet teasing voice makes itself into the open. Catwoman, in all her glory, walks up to the group of bats and birds.
"If it isn't the bat, what's with the gloomy face?"
Batman gives her a nod. "Cat."
Her eyes roam the group and she tilts her head. "Everyone seems to be here tonight." She comments.
"We're waiting," the man shares. "Our newest decided to be more secretive about his debut."
Catwoman gives him a smug smirk. "So I have heard," a chuckle. "I've come here to introduce you to someone, truthfully."
"Oh? Who is it?" Nightwing perks up, having finally decided to join in.
"Me."
Some yelp, whip their head around and away from the lady in black, gasps and cooing (particularly from steph) fill the roof and Danny joins them.
He wears black combat boots, they're heavy just from the look, but make no sound as he jumps around. The front of the boots look like cat paws, they're reaching up to his knees.
Then comes the baggy black pants, knees protected by poleyn and his belt acting as a cats tail. The hoodie he is wearing is also black, with fingerless gloves (only the middle finger is covered) and reaching up to his neck.
Instead of a domino mask, he wears a hood with cat ears and a dark face mask. Cass claps, knowing fully well he took inspiration from her own get up.
The whole outfit is detailed with orange spots, some parts brown and others grayish.
"Meet my new mentee, Calico."
Danny, Calico, waves.

✨complaining about gabriels armour yay✨
DISCLAIMER (please read): - i am doing this for fun. this is not a serious post. - this is not a criticism of gabriel's character design. - gabriel is an angel. obviously angels function differently to humans. the armour of angels in ultrakill could be purely decorative for all i know, but im evaluating it in terms of protection in relation to human anatomy. - i often specifically refer to protection against swords. this is because i am basing my knowledge off of medieval armour. (what im saying is: i know v1 uses guns im not stupid) - im not an expert on armour. i read about it for fun, as a hobby. if i get something wrong, PLEASE tell me i love getting new information about armour and i do not want to unintentionally spread misinformation.
Tumblr media
initially i did a quick assessment of the gaps in the armour, which would be weak points. while ive seen some interpretations of gabriel wearing a sort of bodysuit, he is definitely not wearing a gambeson. this would make the armour uncomfortable to wear as there would be no padding under it.
the rest of the armour evaluation is in the images below. all of the text is also written out in the image descriptions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
after all this nitpicking, i decided to try to redesign gabriel's armour to make it more protective while keeping it similar to his original design and still recognisable as gabriel ultrakill.
Tumblr media
• lowered pauldrons so they're not floating
• added an aventail to the helmet to protect his neck
• the golden parts of the cuirass no longer go inwards
• didnt add couters because i suck at drawing them but lets pretend that i did that to stay closer to his original design (besides he still has the elbow pieces on his vambrace to provide some defence)
• his gauntlets have articulated fingers now
• tassets are laminated rather than the layers he originally had. in retrospect i should have done tassets of three lame and decorated them similarly to gabriels original design but oh well
• i also imagine that he would be wearing a hauberk under the skirt
• added extra plates to the poleyns as well as side fins
• he's got proper sabatons now
• also he would be wearing a gambeson under his armour
Tumblr media
• helmet is more like a visored bascinet
• there are actual holes for ventilation now, and there's more of them.
• there are also holes for vision yay
• didn't want to get rid of the gold bit that goes around the helmet so i changed the shape so that weapons wouldn't get caught on it, but would instead skate off. i think it should come closer to the visor on the side profile though. thank you for reading all of this i had a lot of fun doing this :-)

mainly bc we didn’t get to see an adult version of Nagisa and Honoka :,(
I ended up taking an entirely different route than canon for making the adult version of them and their uniforms, and leaned into the subtle references to armor nagisa’s cure black outfit has. In fact, I’d say she’s knight-coded w a hint of princess, while Honoka is princess-coded w a hint of knight. Maybe it has to do w Mepple being the chosen warrior to protect Mipple, who’s a princess.
The Breakdown:
Her turtleneck that’s layered underneath her shoulder caps mimic a gorget
The cropped red top(?) she wears kind of resembles a cuirass worn over a gorget
The shoulder caps/sleeves are the spaulders!
I should’ve probably kept the hearts on the knees to make my point stronger, but the ones on her og design r kind of like the poleyn while her leg warmers r like greaves.

The Tourney
Media - House Of The Dragon
Character - Daemon Targaryen
Couple - Daemon X Reader
Reader - Y/n (Lady Non-Specific House)
Rating - Sweet + Flirty
Word Count - 877
Tumblr media
I smiled as I held my dress as I walked through the gravel stones, passed tents, carts and people busy with the preparations for the tourney in celebration of the birth king's son. The birth had yet to happen, but many said it wouldn't be long. I held the skirt of my black dress up from the dirty gravel stones. Blood and mud coated the stones as people came and went from the main tourney arena. I snuck my way through the mess of tents until I found the one I had been looking for and I quickly went inside before I was spotted. Pulling back the red tent flap to slip myself inside, I saw the various fine objects littered about the dark Valyrian steel armour with details of scales, dragons and red lining half laid out and the other half being added to him.
Daemon stood in his tent wearing his underclothes, as well as black leather to protect his skin, already in boots, greaves, poleyn, a young squire boy trying to assist him with his black steel cuirass and dragon scale faulds that reached his mid-thigh but causing more trouble than he was assistance. The look on Daemon's face read of frustration with the boy.
"Enough." he demanded before his attention turned to me, "You may go, boy."
The boy didn't say a word he just nodded and quickly left without even looking up from his own feet,
"Must you worry me," I told him,
"How am I worrying you?" He scoffed,
I went over and began to help adjust it and actually get it on correctly, "You know how these things frighten me,"
"Everything I do frightens you," he chuckled looking into my eyes but I focused only on his amour,
"Yes. Perhaps you should do something about that?" I teased him,
"If I stopped doing everything that frightened you, I'd be stuck in the castle watching you knit for the rest of my life,"
"That such a bad thing?"
"it excites you as well as frightens you. Admit it."
"You should wear mail," I remind him ignoring his comment,
"Not in a tourney, I need to be fast, and agile." He answered,
"Others in the tourney wear mail."
"And others lose."
"Doesn't mean you shouldn't," I told him as I picked up the breastplate and buckled him into it, he watched me often as my hands slid over his body, buckling it at each side and ensuring each the three panels covered in dragon scales where still flexible enough to move with the two dragons on his pecks and back.
"Would it please you if I did?"
"Not if you lost," I admitted as I took the tassets with the same three layers and the dragon worked into the metal, from the side and moved to my knees to attach them to his breastplate straps, as I did he stroked my jaw and picked my head up to meet his eyes,
"You look very perfect down there,"
"Do I?" I raised an eyebrow,
"Is my sweet lady going to kiss me for luck?"
"Perhaps,"
"Can she kiss me now?"
"I'm busy," I remind him tugging on his amour, "I need to be down here,"
"I don't recall mentioning you standing." he smirked, I just rolled my eyes and returned my focus, "Do not worry for me," he said more seriously,
"I cannot." I admit, "No matter what I will be fearful,"
"Even if I tell you not to,"
"Even so my prince," I nodded as I got to my feet, I helped him into the more simple things, vambrace, rerebrace, couter, gauntlets and his very dramatically sculpted pauldron. All of which the same dark steel with scales, and red lining all dramatically sculpted as a dragon prince would need to live up to such a title. As I attached the gorget around his neck he smiled at me, he took my hand in his and brought it to his lips pressing a small kiss,
"You know you are on my mind, always. I do not act without first thought of you. I will not be reckless I promise."
"Thank you," I smiled
I took his belt from the side and wrapped it tightly,
"So dramatic." He glared slightly at my tightening,
"I am not the one needing to be called out. for dramatics." I glared as I passed his dramatic dragon helmet with metal wings and a long red and black plume,
He took it in hand and gave me an unamused look, "Do I not get a good luck kiss?"
I rolled my eyes playfully and gave his lips a soft and tender kiss, he happily kissed back and set his hands on my waist before he pulled back with a smile, "Good luck,"
"Thank you, my lady," He cooed, "I will perform. With your trust, your belief and your luck behind me. Always." He says kissing my head, "I would take your favour if I could, and have it with me as I go,"
"I know you would," I nodded,
"I'll save a flower for you," he chuckled before he headed to the door to grab his Targaryen shield and his lance,
"Daemon?" I turned,
"Yes Y/n?" he stopped at the tent flaps,
"Be careful my love," I pleaded,
"I will be. I promise my darling," he nodded before he headed out to fetch his horse and begin the tourney.

I was wondering if you could answer a question about armor, especially the solid/articulated types - how much did it need to be personalized or fitted? I ask because I often see people criticizing fantasy/gaming armor for being too heavy or cumbersome, but rarely for perfectly fitting everyone between five and seven feet tall regardless of whether they're built like Legolas or Gimli.
So I'm curious about whether and what kinds of armor might have been mass produced vs what needed to be customized. Was it easier to produce broadly applicable armor or to recruit your army by height and weight?
Non-custom-fitted mass-produced armour ("munition grade" as some modern repro makers call it) started becoming more common when workshops where everything ran on muscle-power became ones whose hammers, grinders and polishers were powered by a water-wheel.
Making armour to fit a range of average sizes now took less time, effort and wages, so could be sold for less and be afforded by more people.
It would have been made in the period equivalent of S, M, L and maybe XL, with buyers either paying extra for custom adjustments, or DIY-ing for better fit with padded liners to make it snug or extra holes punched into straps for more space.
*****
Top grade plate armour on the other hand was almost like a second skin - a common term is "exoskeleton".
This post from a few years back has a lot more information, including what was done to ensure a good fit when the wearer couldn't be measured in person: for instance sending close-fitting garments or even wax model limbs to the armourer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It definitely wouldn't have fitted anyone but the original owner anything like as well. In particular, if a non-original wearer was longer or shorter in arm or leg, the armour's knee and elbow joints might pinch at distracting moments or simply not flex through their full range.
"Is increased protection better than reduced mobility?" was a question where the wrong answer could prove fatal.
*****
Perhaps that's why medieval art shows a lot of partial armour being worn:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
arm-harness - sometimes just vambraces on the forearms, often all the parts from gauntlets to pauldrons (hands to shoulders);
brigandine - a cloth or leather jacket with small metal plates riveted inside; this wasn't concealed armour, the rivets arranged in rows or patterns were an obvious decorative feature;
haubergeon (or byrnie, though that's more a Saxon / Viking term IMO) - a short-sleeved, short-bodied mail shirt, usually worn under something else;
plackart - front or sometimes front-and-rear lower-abdomen torso plates;
poleyns - knee-guards, worn on otherwise unarmoured legs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one thing everyone wore is the first thing Hollywood armour leaves off - a helmet - while the archer below has not just a helmet, haubergeon, brigandine and poleyns, but also something equally important, a brayette or breech...
Tumblr media
...which is a pair - or at least the front half where It Matters Most - of well-padded mail and indeed male underpants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full plate armours had full plate ones which were even more emphatic. Boob-plates may be (mostly) fantasy, but obvious gendered armour was A Real Thing.
*****
Flexible armour like mail, scale and lamellar wasn't tailored for fit; being flexible it didn't need to be. That said, if the size was really wrong one way or the other, it could be reduced or enlarged by removing or adding sections, similar to a modern tailor taking in or letting out a garment.
I have a vague recollection of a photo showing a late medieval haubergeon with tailoring darts inserted under the arms, but I can't remember where or when, so "vague" has more weight than "recollection". ;-P
Genuine mail is rarer in museums than plate armour, because at the end of its working life mail armour was often chopped into pot-scrubbers for the kitchen. You can buy the same sort of thing today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, while some looted high-grade armour, or at least parts of it, might fit the looter straight away, it's more likely that after any battle there was probably a brisk trade in swapping what didn't fit for what did.
Hope This Helps! :->
