My Top 5 Recommendations For A Dorm Altar
(Part 1 of my Back To School Series)
1. Set aside some shelf area. If you want, you can get a small shelf specifically to sit on your desk for your altar.
2. Get some electric candles. They are fairly affordable, will not set off your dorm’s fire alarm, and I highly doubt that they will get you in trouble with your RAs.
3. Get yourself a cute teacup and saucer set. You can find them at pretty much any thrift store, and together they work as a great libation cup and offering dish set that isn’t going to weird out your roommate.
4. My personal favorite way to replace incense is to get one of those reed oil diffusers. They’re pretty cheap online and at discount stores, they will make your room smell good (obviously), and I love to use them to replace incense in the dorm.
5. If you don’t have any deity statues, or don’t feel comfortable displaying them, you can draw your own depiction of whatever gods you currently worship, use a symbol of theirs, or simply print out pictures online.

evilios posted about how apollo should have white skin.
hiding behind an anon in order to accuse another user of racism behind their back is scummy behavior, ESPECIALLY when you don't provide any evidence for your claims. if you're also a Hellenic Polytheist, spreading claims with no evidence certainly violates Xenia. however, this is a VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE to pay attention to in Polytheistic spaces, so I indulged your idea and searched for proof you so unhelpfully didn't provide.
i went to @evilios 's page and went through every single post they had that was related to Apollon. these are the ONLY posts I found that were in any way related to your claims:
below is taken from this post asking about Apollon and Yarlio. here, he describes some physical attributes of Apollon that are attested. note he says nothing about skin color.
Tumblr media
below is from this post where they describe an ancient statue of Apollon. it's possible to have misread this part, if this is what prompted the ask.
Tumblr media
and finally, this is from the tags of this reblogged post. this definitely requires some context. in antiquity, pale skin and light hair was commonly considered the height of beauty. since Apollon was commonly an effeminate Deity, these features would convey to ancient people that this statue honored those aspects.
Tumblr media
so, to conclude, I found no evidence for your claims on their current profile. honestly, I found more evidence of the opposite. accusing people of racism without looking into context for yourself can take attention away from people who actually need to be ostracized. take this as a learning experience.
of course, if you actually do have evidence, feel free to share. next time, present it with your claims.

When you step into sunlight, you honor Apollo. When you admire the moon, you honor Artemis. When you admire cloud shapes, you honor Hera. When you smell petrichor, you honor Zeus. When you laugh at a joke, you honor Hermes. When your body twitches to dance at a particularly upbeat music, you honor Dinoysus. When you enjoy the first bite of your breakfast, you honor Demeter. When you choose your peace over any conflict, you honor Athena. When you warm yourself up by sheltering yourself in blanket, you honor Hestia. When you listen to Ocean sounds, you honor Poseidon. When you smell flowers, you honor Persephone. When you admire the coolness of first day of Autumn, you honor Hades. When you wear your favourite jewellery, you honor Hephaestus. When you smile, you honor Aphrodite. When you exercise, you honor Ares. When you light a torch in a dark room, you honor Hekate.
Your body is a shrine to Gods, your being an act of devotion for them. You, by yourself, are enough for them.

while i’m sure it’s certainly cool to be chosen by a deity for worship/devotion, i think there’s something beautiful about choosing them instead. having little to no signs from a deity, but seeing them and saying “yes. yes. yes. you are the one i want to devote myself to. work on myself for. be a part of your life as you are mine.” as a practitioner and then setting forth. i personally feel like we don’t have many options in life, so it’s nice to be the one to decide.

Low Energy Devotional Activities and Ways to Connect with the Gods
Let's be honest, religion and consistent practice can be HARD, especially when you're chronically ill, disabled, mentally ill or neurodivergent. This is a list of lower energy practices you can do to connect with your Gods when you're having a rough day.
Pray. You don't have to say the prayer. You don't have to do the full cleansing and offering. Just think about the prayer. It could be as simple as "'Deity Name', thank you. I'm thinking of you and appreciate you."
Dedicate any self care you do to the Gods. You've got to take meds? awesome. it's now a devotional activity.
If you can, light a tea light candle. You can think about who you're dedicating it to as you're lighting it.
Tell them about your day. Have a simple conversation with them (again, this can be in your head if needed).
Offer some water! Water is a great offering if you don’t have the energy to cook, collect or buy something.
Incense is also a great offering because you can light it then forget about it and your house won’t burn down (if you follow regular safety measures).
Resting. Your deities want you to be okay. Dedicating your rest to your deities is especially great if you feel guilty for allowing yourself time to heal.
Turn on a video of someone reading mythos!
Put on a deity playlist. There are plenty of pre-made ones on Spotify.
Veil or bind your hair! Whenever I’m low energy I’ll throw my hair in a ponytail and bind it that way. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.
Make a Pinterest board for them!
Post on a digital altar! There are plenty of discord servers that have digital altars and temples. You could also make a devotional Tumblr blog.
Change your phone lock/home screen to something that reminds you of your Deity.
I hope this is helpful to anyone who needs it! Take care of yourself first and foremost. If you don't think you can manage something on this list then thats perfectly fine too! you're not a bad person for not being able to do something spiritual or religious. Ultimately, these things are not a necessity. Don't stress :)

What to put in your hellenic journal and why it helps
Building a kharis with gods using a religious journal is really helpful. It helped me keep my information and my thoughts related to the Gods organized. It can also help beginners if they are uncomfortable reciting hymns out loud.
What could be put inside it:
Every day write one delphic maxim and write how you interpret it or what you think about it
Make a shopping list for your altar and offerings
Compose prayers
Hymns/ prayers to your patrons and Hestia, Nyx, Helios, Hypnos
Write something as if you are conversating with the Gods.
Important information on deities
Favorite offerings, incenses, and libations of the Gods
Important Callendar events, festivals, and key info on celebration
Quotes from the most famous books of Gods that you relate to or want to remember
Instructions on composing prayers
What afterlife means in Hellenismos
What defines hubris, agos and miasma
7 pillars of Hellenismos and their meaning
Do some drawings for the Gods as a devotional act
Include your personal experiences with the divine and how it affected you
Write down the signs you saw during the week
You can also decorate it with the images of Gods

Demeter, goddess of fertility and the harvest, an image likely based off of a Roman original. (Updated description due to deeper research!!) After doing digging this image is not in fact from the temple of Eleusis but is rather a modern version of a (possibly) Roman relief of a similar kind!
Tumblr media
The image which likely served as the basis for the modern one, photograph taken in 1864. Image source Right now it's really unknown where this original relief came from as there's little to no information from the museum listing I found this on, but I will continue to update this as time goes on if I find more info. For anyone else, feel free to update and reblog if you find more info before I do! UPDATE: original image source has been found for the Roman relief, it is located at the Lourve! Source
