TTD - First Meeting 2/4
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 and end
Part 2, sequel of this. This Hero and Villain have now their own tag and masterlist.
*
Hero woke up and they didn’t like that very much.
The ground was hard under their head, and they winced. Their fingers unwillingly clenched and grasped some gravel.
Wait a minute. That meant they weren’t in a room. Not theirs, anyways. Come to think of it, where were they and what happened ? Their head hurt. They touched their forehead gently. There was no blood, and it looked like it was in its usual shape. Still, it hurt.
Maybe the next step was standing up, come to think of it. So they did. Stretching up, they clasped their tongue, trying to focus. It had been a while since they had felt this sluggish. They were in a little street. Okay. That was an important piece of information. So, they were going back from their last job (stopping a robbery, nothing serious) when – when – they forgot.
How could have they forgotten ?
They stayed still. Apart from them, there was no one in the street. Everything was quiet. And, possibly, very wrong. Something was missing. Hero was quite sure that it wasn’t a street before, but a dead end. What was blocking the way before was a two-storeyed building, full of people. Now it was... gone. It hadn’t been demolished or anything. There weren’t ruins or even rubble around. There just wasn’t a trace of it, as if it never existed. It was the right street though, and if they struggled very hard to remember, they were inside just before. There were just fragments of memories. A thief sulking in a corner, their hands tied up behind their back. A smile from an old lady. A warm cup of tea into their hands and the odor of the mint.
The next minutes were used to frantically search for the people who lived there, anyone. After a lot of swearing and some tears, they had to renounce. They sat on the ground, vaguely entertaining the idea of curling up and never getting up ever, when their phone rang.
“Are you okay ?” asked Other Hero. “There was an attack from Supervillain in your area.”
“Yes. Just where I was, in fact.”
“Oh shit ! How did you survive ?”
“I think my powers protected me. But a whole building is gone and I – I don’t understand what happened.”
“ It’s your first time with this guy, uh ? You’d better sit down, buddy, I’m gonna break it to you.”
Other Hero had that tone she always had when they passed their regular tests, just before obtaining the highest grades. Hero listened.
“His power is very simple, actually,” she declared. As you saw – or rather as you didn’t see - he can make things disappear. He only has to look at the zone, and everything is gone.”
“A whole building ? What about the people ?”
“I’m sorry, have I stuttered ? Gone.”
A drop of sweat slowly trickled down Hero’s forehead.
“I don’t see how I could fight that”, they finally said. Is there a way ? Has he got a weakness ?”
“Oh, you can’t. With your powers, that is. It’s best if you don’t try. At least you’re protected, but you haven’t got what it takes to bring him down.”
“You do.”
“Of course, but I’ve got my area to protect, you know. Tell you what though, I’ll call the agency and ask them if they can send you backup.”
“Thanks, but -”
They didn’t have the time to finish their sentence. Other Hero had hung up. Having backup was good, but with this kind of threat it couldn’t hurt to have a plan B.
The warehouse they had visited a couple of weeks ago was not far, and still standing. With a bit of luck, it was still Villain’s lair. Hero hadn’t come back since. It wasn’t as if this villain seemed like a serious threat anyway. Even the place itself wasn’t that threatening, past the first impression. So they opened the door without much thought, and because they were still dizzy, they walked on a button without noticing. They only had time to gasp and protect their head with their arms when a huge cage just fell right on them.
There was a series of clicks, and when they opened their eyes again, they were surrounded by heavy metal bars. Spotlights illuminated their trap one by one while a booming laugh resonated in the room:
“You’re mine now ! Miiiiine !”
A dark shape appeared at the end of the corridor. The spotlights were strong, but they couldn’t lighten it up. Light seemed to avoid the black silhouette.
“I knew you’ve come back to taunt me, nemesis, but that was your downfall ! See what I could do in your absence ! Tell me, prisoner, am I harmless now ?”
Hero didn’t answer. They were still staring at the darkness. Villain had to clear their throat to get their attention.
“I said ! Am ! I ! Harmless ?”
“Uh ? Oh, uh, yes. I mean, no – I mean – what was the question again ?”
A grunt of frustration came out of the silhouette:
“You are into my claws ! How can you not pay attention to every one of my words ? I am the master of your life – nay, the master of your very fate ! Be awed !”
“I kinda am.”
The shape stopped its walk:
“You – you are ?”
“Yes. Do you control shadows ?”
“Only mine, but as it is the best, I do not care what others could offer me.”
“ And yet you could darken this whole warehouse”, whispered Hero. “And all the buildings you go to. I suppose you can make it as big as you wish. That’s impressive.”
“Extremely. I’m glad you’ve finally come to your senses. Imprisonment quickly taught you some manners.”
“Actually, I didn’t come to fight you. I came for two things. A warning, first.”
“Ah, it is to laugh ! They’re nothing but a pitiful prisoner, a mere prey at my mercy, but still they try to rebel ! Such audacity.”
“Supervillain is here.”
“You have to be more precise.”
“The one who can make everything disappear.”
“...shit. I mean, curses !”
“And he’s here to stay if I don’t do anything to stop him.”
“So you want to beg for your freedom ? What if all of that was an outrageous lie to deceive me as a way to mock me once more? ”
“That’s the thing, Villain. Even if I were free, I couldn’t defeat him. I’m not powerful enough. That’s the second thing I wanted to tell you. I need your help.”
“ Excuse me ?”
“Supervillain needs to see to use his power. But if the whole area is in your shadow, he’ll be helpless.”
“A poor plan, if I might say so. I only need to cover his eyes to blind him.”
“If you succeed to find him first, that is.”
“That wouldn’t be a problem. If memory serves, he had an awfully tacky magenta suit, even flashier than your orange jacket. But wait ! Why should I listen to you ? Why should I expose myself to the cruel outside and the crueler sun ?”
“Your warehouse might be on his way. And that’s the kind of act that can grant you a pardon from the agency.”
The silhouette recoiled:
“I neither need nor want a pardon. I am a devious malevolent being of pure darkness and I intend to stay that way.”
Hero wiped his forehead. They were getting tired.
“Okay, fine. We’re running out of time. What do you want ?”
“For starters, I want you to kneel.”
Hero tilted their head, confused:
“Why ?”
“You know. To acknowledge my superiority and your defeat, all of that good stuff.”
“Oh. Okay, if you want.”
Hero politely obeyed while the laugh resonated once more:
“Yes...yes ! Muahaha I am the unflinching and unbowed victor of our perilous fight !”
“Uh-uh, sure. If there something else ? I think that we’re running out of time here.”
“Pledge your allegiance to me.”
“What ? But I’m a hero. I can’t.”
“Then I won’t help.”
Hero actually felt a twinge of remorse. That was a promise they were going to break, but then again, it was going to be made under duress.
“What would you make me do ?”
A moment of silence ensued.
“I don’t actually know”, admitted Villain. “It would be my first time someone would submit to me, I don’t go outside much. The very thought of another soul touching my tools and my creations makes even my dark soul shudder.”
“I could go shopping for you. This way you won’t have to scare citizens.”
“Using your own money to trade for the goods I decide you to get to sustain my mortal body ?” asked the voice which was suddenly a lot more cheerful.
“You really don’t like to go outside, uh ?”
“Hush, prisoner. It is decided, then. I shall fight this obnoxious magenta menace who…!”
Despite the heavy doors, a piercing scream from outside made them both start. Hero jumped on their feet.
“...And the sooner, the better.”

❝ ⎯⎯ Clingy Comfort ! ꞌꞋ ࣪ 투어스 ❞
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
┈ All they want is to be close. Quiet, cuddling… no rush. A moment just for yourselves.
› Pairing: TWS x 7thmember!Reader
› Word Count: 4.8K
› Warning: non. just fluff.
┈ Note ! ꞌꞋ ࣪ Hi, this is my first time writing something for TWS, and it's just that since I met them I'm a little obsessed. And it just came to my mind how they would be like when they are feeling clingy. And being very honest with you, like Shinyu biased, Dohoon's, Kyungmin and Hanjin have me completely blushing and kicking my feet.
I also want to clarify that English is not my first language, so there will probably be several typos or it will look very formal; an apology for that. Without further ado I hope you like it and have a nice night/day.

Shinyuㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤShin Junghwan !
Days off were rare.
More rare than Shinyu would like to admit.
There was always something: practices, meetings, recordings, schedules full of things to do.
But not today.
Today, by some perfect alignment of the stars, the group had the day off, and they were making the best possible use of it: doing absolutely nothing.
Just the seven of you, spread out in the living room, enjoying a quiet moment while deciding what to have for breakfast.
He was leaning back on one end of the couch, his phone in hand, flipping through the menu with the others. He was barely paying attention to the discussion of what to order. It was a din of mingled voices and banter thrown into the air. You were at the other end, lounging against the armrest, with a sleepy expression that made him smile without realizing it. The dim light of the room highlighted the contours of your face, and Shinyu found his gaze straying to you more times than necessary.
It wasn't unusual. It happened to him all the time.
The conversation flowed smoothly, until Jihoon asked you to help Shinyu confirm the final order.
Shinyu barely registered the request.
His attention was on you, on the way you gently sat up to reach over and take his phone. It was a simple, everyday movement even, but for him it was enough. As if his body acted before his mind, in a single, fluid motion he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you to him effortlessly, sinking you against his chest naturally.
The contact was warm. Your body fit over his as if you had always belonged there. There was no resistance on your part, only a small initial startle before you gradually settled against him. Shinyu felt an almost instinctive satisfaction run through his body as you rested your head on his chest, letting yourself fall completely on top of him.
Yes. That was better.
He loved this. He loved you.
-Mmm… it's good like this, isn't it? -you murmured, still checking the phone.
-Mhmm… -Shinyu barely answered, his voice distracted, too focused on you to pay attention to anything else.
You confirmed the order, and the others, satisfied, scattered around the room, each minding their own business while waiting for the food. But Shinyu had not the slightest intention of moving. Not when he had you like this, perfectly wedged against him.
He could feel the rhythm of your breathing becoming slower, more relaxed. The heat of your body against his was addictive.
With a relaxed motion, he reached out to take control when Dohoon challenged him to a game of Mario Kart. Perfect. He could play without thinking too much. He moved just enough to grab the controller, but not enough to alter the position you were in. If anything, his grip on your waist became tighter, making sure you didn't move too much. Kyungmin and Jihoon joined in right away, but even as the competition began and laughter filled the room, his mind wasn't quite on the game.
Sure, his reflexes were still good, his fingers pressed the buttons as nimbly as ever, but a large part of him was distracted.
How could he not be?
He had you lying completely on top of him, breathing softly against his chest, not complaining about his grip or the way he was holding you close. Without realizing it, his hand moved, his fingers tracing small circles on the fabric of your shirt. He wasn't sure if he was doing it to reassure you or himself. Maybe both.
And then you did.
Without warning, you moved just a little, seeking more comfort, fitting better against him. It was a small gesture, almost imperceptible, but Shinyu felt it as a direct blow to the heart. A shiver ran down his back as you made yourself even smaller in his embrace, as if you were exactly where you wanted to be.
Oh.
Oh.
Shinyu barely blinked, barely reacted. His character on the screen crashed into a wall and Dohoon let out a victorious laugh, but he didn't even flinch. He just looked down, watching you with a tenderness he had no right to display so openly. His attention was on the way his own heart began to beat a little faster.
It couldn't have been more obvious. He was completely lost for you.
He let out a slow sigh, one that was lost amidst the sound of the game and the voices in the room, but which inside him echoed like a silent surrender. Because deep down, there was no point in fooling himself anymore.
It was ridiculous how much he liked this. How much he liked you.
The game went on, the others laughed and complained about unfair plays, but to him, it was all background noise. He didn't need to say it out loud, but if it were up to Shinyu, the whole world could stop in that instant, and he wouldn't mind at all.
He just needed this moment. Just the simple fact of feeling you so close was enough.

Dohoonㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤKim Dohoon !
Mornings always had a different rhythm for Dohoon.
They were slow, sleepy, with the warmth of the sheets still clinging to his skin and the feeling of drowsiness weighing down his eyelids. Not because he was tired-though sometimes he was-but because in the mornings he wanted you close. Closer than was reasonable, closer than others would surely consider normal. And today, with a whole day off until evening, there was no reason to hold back.
He opened his eyes heavily and, before he even thought of getting out of bed, he noticed your absence. You were gone. He frowned, still drowsy, and without even thinking too much about it, he stood up. He didn't need to ask anyone where you were; his instinct led him straight to the kitchen.
And there you were.
Standing in front of the counter, opening the bags with the coffees and drinks the manager had ordered for everyone. The morning light filtered through the window, illuminating you in an almost unreal way. To Dohoon, who was not yet fully awake, the image was too pretty, too perfect.
Without much thought, he approached you silently, shuffling his feet with the laziness of someone not yet fully awake. And then, as soon as he was close enough, he wrapped his arms around your waist and dropped down against you, hiding his face in the crook of your neck.
God, it felt so good.
Your warmth, your smell, the way you fit perfectly against him as if you were a magnet he always ended up sticking to… Everything about you was addictive to him. He closed his eyes, gently inhaling the scent of your skin mixed with that of coffee, and smiled against your neck when he felt you wouldn't pull away. You didn't make the slightest effort to break free from his grip, you just went about your business, as if you were used to him clinging to you like a koala bear every morning.
And you were.
Gently, without opening his eyes, he rubbed his nose against your skin, taking deep breaths.
There was no way he could start the day without this.
He opened his eyes when he saw your hand move, bringing your latte to your lips. He watched intently, not moving an inch from his place on your neck, as you calmly took a sip. And then, without a word, you brought the straw close to his mouth in a gesture so natural that it made his heart beat faster.
Without hesitation, he caught the straw between his lips and took a sip straight from your drink, his eyes narrowing in pleasure at the sweet, warm taste of the latte. But more than the coffee itself, what he really enjoyed was the gesture itself.
The fact that you shared with him without thinking about it.
There was something intimate in the way you shared these little things. In how they didn't need words, in how you just knew what he wanted, in how he could be glued to you without seeming to make you uncomfortable.
God. How lucky he was.
He drank some more before releasing the straw and sinking back against you, this time squeezing you a little tighter, enveloping you with his body as if he wanted to become part of you.
Your soft laughter vibrated against his chest and, without warning, you caressed his face, your fingers sliding gently down his cheek, along his jaw, a light but loving touch. Dohoon closed his eyes at the sensation, letting himself be pampered, letting you do whatever you wanted with him, because he was already completely yours.
If it were up to him, he could stay like this all day.
But then, his stomach decided to betray him.
Dohoon pouted a little, stirring against you before muttering in a low, sleepy voice:
-I'm hungry…
You just smiled, amused, and barely moved to go get your phone, surely to order food for everyone. But Dohoon had no intention of letting go.
Like a koala clinging to his favorite tree, he stayed glued to you, following you wherever you went, his arms still around your waist, his body still against yours as you tried to open the ordering app.
It was ridiculous how easy it was for him to stay that way, entangled with you even when you were on the move.
-What do you want to eat? -You asked, looking at the screen of your phone.
Dohoon rested his chin on your shoulder, watching the screen lazily. But actually, he wasn't looking at the menu.
He was just looking at you.
Stunned, completely absorbed in the way your brow furrowed just barely as you chose the food, in the way your mouth curved subtly as you read the choices. You knew him well enough to know exactly what to ask him without him having to say anything, but you still asked, because you cared about his opinion.
And that, that was what finished disarming him completely.
He snuggled closer against you, closing his eyes for a moment and letting his weight rest against your body without fear that you would push him away. Because he knew you wouldn't. Because, like him, you enjoyed this too.
If the rest of the day was going to be like this, glued to you, feeling your warmth, sharing every little moment of the morning, then for Dohoon, this was already the best day off of all.
Tumblr media
Youngjaeㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤChoi Youngjae !
The day had ended earlier than expected, but Youngjae was in no hurry to leave.
Not when he could seize a moment like this.
Not when you were there, so close, so… perfect for him.
The practice room was still illuminated in the soft afternoon light, and Jihoon, as always, had energy to spare to keep dancing, moving with enviable ease as he improvised steps in front of the mirror, and Youngjae… well, Youngjae was just tired. He watched out of the corner of his eye, amused by his dongsaeng's witticisms, but his mind was elsewhere.
Or, rather, on someone else.
You were there, leaning against the mirror, relaxed, not paying much attention to anything but Jihoon. Youngjae watched you silently for a few seconds, noticing the way your expression softened when you were deep in thought, how your lips curved into a smile when Jihoon did something silly. It was nothing serious, just fun. But Youngjae wasn't particularly interested in that right now.
The only thing he was interested in was you.
He didn't know how or why, but whenever you were around, he needed to find an excuse to be attached to you somehow.
And Youngjae, he wanted you close.
He didn't have a clear reason; he simply wanted you close.
Without a word, he came over and lay down on top of you, resting his head carefully on your lap.
The relief was immediate.
And, as if you were perfectly in sync with him, you lifted your arms a little to give him space, allowing him to settle in better. Youngjae wrapped his arms around your waist leisurely, breathing deeply against the fabric of your clothes, letting your warmth envelop him. He closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying the contact, the feeling of being close to you without needing to say anything.
Youngjae sighed softly, as he listened to Jihoon's laughter, so lively and full of energy. He could hear the jokes and the silly things he was doing; And he couldn't help but smile at the scene.
But even as he did so, his mind was still on you.
It wasn't more than a few seconds before he felt your hands move, instinctively moving down to his hair. And there it was, that gesture he so adored. The brush of your fingers through her locks, the light pressure of your nails against her scalp, the slow, steady rhythm that made every muscle in her body relax little by little.
Yes. Just like that.
It was almost ridiculous how much he enjoyed this. The way your fingers ran through his hair as naturally as you breathed, in how your nails gently grazed his scalp, sending little shivers of pleasure down his back. Each caress was like a silent confirmation that he had every right in the world to be here, glued to you, claiming your attention without needing to ask for it.
He opened his eyes just a little, just enough to see you laughing at some nonsense of Jihoon's; moving in an exaggerated way just to make you smile, and Youngjae felt a pang of tenderness in his chest to see you like that.
God, he adored your laugh.
He couldn't see you completely from his position, but he could feel your laughter in the subtle vibration of your body against him. But he didn't have the energy to join in the antics at that moment. Not when he was so comfortable, not when your fingers kept sliding through his hair with a gentleness that made him sink deeper and deeper into the sensation of being with you.
He didn't need you to do anything else.
He wasn't thinking about anything else, just that.
About how it felt when he held you close, when he felt your body so close to his. All he could think about was the warmth of your body under his head, the softness of your fingers sliding through his hair, how each caress felt like a gesture of affection that he didn't ask for, but needed.
It was that feeling, that simple, genuine attention, that had him completely spellbound.
And, for an instant, he thought that maybe, if he could, he would stay that way forever.
He didn't want to move.
He didn't want that moment to end.
And best of all, you weren't even making him uncomfortable about it. You liked it. It was like a kind of silent language that only the two of you shared: you taking care of him without thinking about it, him soaking up the comfort of your company.
And he enjoyed every second of it.
But, of course, something told him that eventually he would have to get up, that Jihoon would stop his madness and the rest of the group would return to the dormitories. For now, though, as you gently caressed him, as his mind completely melted away in that warmth that only you provided, everything seemed perfect just the way it was.
It is perfect.
Tumblr media
Hanjinㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤHan Zhen !
The dorm was quiet, an unusual tranquility after days filled with practices and tight schedules. Everyone was scattered around the apartment, each doing their own thing, taking advantage of the rare free time. Hanjin, however, only had his attention on one thing - or, rather, one person.
You.
You were sitting on his bed, leaning against the wall, with his Korean book open between you.
Technically, he was studying.
Technically, you were helping him.
But in reality, Hanjin was just enjoying the perfect excuse to have you around.
At first, everything had been normal. You were correcting his pronunciation, patiently explaining grammatical structures, and he was nodding, making the effort to repeat them correctly. But honestly, he was having a hard time. Not because he didn't want to learn, but because his attention was elsewhere.
On you.
In the way you spoke patiently, explaining every detail with that sweetness that disarmed him. In how your voice sounded so natural when you explained to him in Mandarin so that he would understand better the meaning of the words, so comfortable, so you. In the closeness between you, in the warmth of your body next to his, in how easy it was to be with you like that.
As the lesson progressed, Hanjin felt more and more… comfortable.
Almost too comfortable.
Everything about you had him completely caught up.
At some point in the lesson - without even thinking too much about it - he reached out and pulled you to his side, drawing you in as easily as he breathed.
You said nothing. You just let yourself go, settling against him without complaint or question. As if this kind of contact was something as natural as the air between you.
Hanjin liked that.
He felt comfortable with you.
He liked how easy it was to touch you, how easy it was to envelop you with his presence without you pushing him away. He rested his head against your shoulder at one point, feeling the warmth of your skin, the rhythm of your breathing, the simple fact of having you there.
Your warmth, your familiar scent… It was so easy. It was so easy that he almost forgot they were still studying.
And then, he felt your hand move.
Your fingers gently ran through his hair, a brief touch but enough to make him feel that you were there, acknowledging his presence, responding to his need for contact without him having to ask for it.
Such a simple gesture.
But as your hand ran through his hair, Hanjin seemed to have no intention of letting go. On the contrary, he pulled you to him more tightly, pressing you even tighter against his side. A shiver ran down his back, he liked it too much when you did that.
But then, you broke the balance of the moment with a few words.
-我去拿点吃的,我们休息一下吧 - (I'm going to go get a snack, let's get some rest).
No.
Before you could even move, his body reacted on its own. His arms around your waist tightened subtly, drawing you back effortlessly. He needed no words, only the weight of his grip, refusing to let go, as if letting you go was simply an unacceptable option.
You looked down at him with amusement. Hanjin noticed it. He noticed it in the way your lips curved just barely, in the mischievous light in your eyes, as if you were waiting for him to say something else.
And he did.
-不要,待在这儿 - (No, stay here.)
His voice was low, almost a whisper against your skin. The way he said those words, his tone soft but firm, made your heart beat a little faster.
And you… you couldn't resist.
He smiled without another word, enjoying the way you settled back in next to him.
He wasn't one to ask for things with grandiose words. He wasn't usually pushy about what he wanted. But with you, everything was different. With you, he had the luxury of being a little more selfish, of wanting more than he normally allowed himself.
And Hanjin knew what he wanted, and it was simple: he wanted to stay that way, glued to you.
-好吧 - (It's okay.)
You whispered with a smile, surrendering easily to his grip.
He didn't have to say much for you to understand.
Because, in the end, you wanted to stay that way too.
Tumblr media
Jihoonㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤHan Jihoon !
After weeks of work without a break, the arrival of this rare day off had given Jihoon a much-needed respite.
He emerged from the bathroom with his hair still damp, feeling the warmth of the shower still clinging to his skin. The hot water had relaxed his muscles, but it had also left him with a drowsiness he could barely conceal. His eyelids drooped slightly as he toweled his hair dry, but as soon as he looked up and saw you in his bed, all the heaviness seemed to fade for a moment.
You were lying there, laughing at something Dohoon had said from the other bed. Your voice, your laughter, the mere sight of you there made Jihoon feel a tug in his chest.
The scene was so domestic, so quiet… That his mind had only one clear thought….
He wanted to be there with you.
He didn't think about it too much. In fact, he didn't think at all.
With lazy steps, he crossed the room and, without warning, dropped his full weight on you. Not gently, not with any warning, just with the full weight of his body, as if you were a pillow made exclusively for him.
The air left your lungs in a surprised gasp, followed by a burst of laughter as you tried, unsuccessfully, to protest between guffaws, but that only made him smile against the fabric of your clothes.
It didn't bother you at all, and he knew it.
-Jihoon -you said, your voice cracking -You're too heavy, get off! -you finished with a chuckle, patting him gently on the back. But he didn't move.
Not immediately, at least.
He just got more comfortable.
-No -he murmured in a sleepy voice, letting his arm wrap lazily around your waist, making sure you weren't going to slip away.
Dohoon, from his bed, chuckled as well, surely enjoying the scene, but Jihoon was already too comfortable to pay attention to you. His attention was completely on you, on how your breathing was still agitated by the laughter, on how your body was slowly relaxing under his. He could feel the steady beat of your heart under his cheek, a rhythmic, comforting sound that made his own eyelids feel heavier, plus the way that, despite your playful complaints, you made no real effort to push him away.
Jihoon sighed against your skin, completely content with the position he was in.
And just as you knew would happen, you ended up surrendering with a sigh and, without thinking too much about it, started playing with his damp hair.
If he wasn't so tired, he probably would have smiled self-satisfiedly. But instead, he just closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh, completely surrendered to the gesture.
God.
It was his weakness.
He didn't need words, he didn't need anything else. Just your hand in his hair, the gentle rhythm of your caresses and the sound of your voice returning to the conversation with Dohoon as if you didn't have a whole human being lying on top of you.
He enjoyed this very much.
But he couldn't fall asleep.
He forced himself to open his eyes, though his sight was a blur of shadows and warm lights in the room. He didn't want to surrender to sleep so quickly. Not when he could stretch this moment out a little longer.
He heard your voice conversing with Dohoon, though the words became a distant echo, a soft melody that cradled him unwillingly. He felt your laughter vibrate against his chest, your breathing slow as you continued to play with his hair.
He blinked slowly, clinging to the feel of your touch, the sound of your voice, the way your body molded to his.
But it was useless.
As exhaustion overtook him more, his breathing grew heavier, slower. Every caress on his hair dragged him deeper into drowsiness, every brush of your fingers made his body feel heavier, more relaxed. He wanted to protest, to tell you to stop, that if you kept this up he was going to fall asleep on you, but all that came out of his mouth was an incoherent mumble.
And then, without being able to help it, his eyelids gave way.
His breathing slowed, his body completely surrendered against yours. In the last moment before he fell asleep, he felt the brush of your lips on his forehead - soft, fleeting, like a whisper that carried away any attempt at struggle.
He lost.
But if falling asleep meant being like this, glued to you, with your warmth enveloping him and your fingers in his hair… then maybe losing wasn't so bad after all.
Tumblr media
Kyungminㅤ ❛❛    ──── ㅤLee Kyungmin !
Kyungmin couldn't sleep.
The rented house was completely silent. Well, not complete silence-the sound of his hyungs' leisurely breathing, mixed with the occasional murmur of Jihoon moving in his sleep, reminded him that he was trapped in a confined space with three other people.
And that was the problem.
Dohoon, Hanjin, and Jihoon, in their infinite trust, had decided that it didn't matter that the bed was clearly for one or two people at most -they would sleep there anyway.
And they had done so without any respect for the concept of “personal space.”
There was no space. Not a shred of it.
He stirred for the umpteenth time between the bodies of Jihoon, Dohoon, and Hanjin, trapped in a ridiculously small space in the bed they shared. It had been fun at first, pushing and shoving, teasing and laughing until they were all completely exhausted. But now, with Dohoon glued to the other end of the bed, Jihoon completely unconscious, one arm draped over his stomach and Hanjin wedged next to him, Kyungmin could only think of how uncomfortable the situation was.
Four people on a single mattress had never been a good idea.
And he definitely wasn't going to survive the night like this.
With slow, careful movements, he managed to slip out of the tangle of bodies without waking them. His feet touched the cold floor, and he felt a shiver run down his back as he finally stretched.
He needed air.
Space.
Something.
He ran a hand through his hair, tousling it even more than it already was, and without much thought, he left the room, dodging the creaking of the wood beneath his feet.
His steps were silent as he walked down the dimly lit hallway, his eyes still half closed from sleep as he made his way to the one room he knew he could get a good night's rest in.
Your room. Your room was the biggest room in the house, the prize for winning the chaotic game of deciding rooms.
And besides, it had become a habit. Every night, after everyone had retired, he used to come into your room, cuddle with you for a while, and then go to his. It was his little ritual. One that had started unintentionally and eventually became a sort of silent habit between you.
He hesitated a moment before knocking, but the sound was soft, almost shy. In the silence of the early morning, it felt louder than expected.
A small silence and then your sleepy voice from within:
-Come in…
Kyungmin opened the door cautiously and peeked out, finding you sitting up in bed, rubbing your eyes with one hand. Despite how sleepy you were, a smile appeared on your face as soon as you saw him. He felt your chest tighten warmly.
Without a word, he looked at you with deer eyes, silently hoping you would understand his motive.
And, as always, you did.
He didn't even have to explain.
Without saying anything, you made a small gesture with your hand, inviting him to come closer, and he didn't think twice about it.
He closed the door behind him and crossed the room with silent steps before slipping under the sheets beside you. The mattress was big, roomy, but as soon as he got into bed, he glued himself to you without thinking. His face hid in the hollow of your neck, his arms relaxed around you, and as soon as he felt the warmth of your skin and the leisurely rhythm of your breathing, his body loosened completely.
This.
This was what he had been looking for.
One arm of his fell lazily around your waist, and when he felt your chin rest gently on his head, he knew there was no turning back.
It was too comfortable.
Your hand slid down to his hair, stroking it in slow, gentle movements, and he instantly closed his eyes, enjoying every second of that gesture. He bit his lip to keep from smiling too much. There was no way his hyungs wouldn't tease him in the morning when they found him here, but honestly… he didn't care.
They would surely provoke him and make him blush with their teasing, but he didn't mind at all.
If the price of sleeping comfy and warm with you was putting up with their teasing… then so be it.

okay but a request for a new face around the paddock and Lando having a huge crush and gets some assistance to ask her out 😔
Hi, love!! <3 Since you didn't specify if it was a smau, a blurb, or a full imagine, I decided to go with a blurb, 'key? I hope you like it!! *mwah*
New girl | LN4
― Pairing: Lando Norris x reader (sher/her) ― Warnings: mentions of alcohol, getting stuck on the roof, and typos; ― my masterlist | my taglist | patreon guide ― check some exclusive pieces here ― you can support my writing by reblogging, leaving a comment (don’t forget to follow me if you like the piece), or buying me a coffee
Tumblr media
Someone was playing early 2000s remixes, the sound escaping to the roof where Yn was sitting, nursing a half-full red cup. She was a bit tired. It was her first week attending a race, and things were more hectic than anticipated, though Charles told her it was crazy when you weren't used to the pace.
Still, she was looking for the next Sunday. The next plane ride, the next country to explore.
"Oh- hey," Lando waved after opening the door and finding her sitting in one of the small couches. His face read surprise with a tinge of confusion, but, in reality, he knew she would be there. Carlos told him as much. His friend actually encouraged him to go after her. Lando was infatuated the second he saw her, and when he discovered she was Charles' friend he was quick to ask Carlos for help, which coming to think about now wasn't the best idea.
Maybe he should have asked Charles instead. He probably knew her better. She was the new girl for Carlos too, having just met her the same day Lando did. Or just tried to get to her without any help, but then again, she was so beautiful and so cool, he felt like the whole paddock stopped the first day Yn showed up, though rationally he knew things kept going as usual. He was the distracted one.
"Hi," she waved back, a small smile gracing her lips before she took the cup to her lips sipping whatever drink she was nursing.
"Can I- huh- Can I stay here too?"
Yn nodded, "It's a bit packed in there, huh?" she asked before patting the spot beside her. "Carlos told me I could get some air here instead of in front of the house, the air is flowing good there, but there's still too much noise- and drunk people," she ranted, and Lando thought it was cute the way she would explain things he hasn't even asked yet.
"I'm Lando," the British extended his hand to her, and they shook it right before she said her name as if wasn't etched on his mind, and he sat beside her.
"I know," there's a hint of amusement in her voice. "There's only twenty of you, and you happen to be really close to my friend's teammate."
He chuckled, taking a pull from his beer, and sensing someone behind him. When Lando turned he saw Carlos and Charles at the door, and before he could stop them both, the noise of the door closing echoed around.
"Shit."
"Was it the door?" Yn asked, getting up.
"I think the wind closed it," he tried to keep it cool, even though he was finally understanding why Carlos had asked to borrow his phone.
"Can you call one of the guys to open it up?" she asked, and then added, "For when we want to get back...I'm fine for now."
He smiled, and then his face twisted in a grimace, "I forgot my phone with the guys."
"Mine doesn't have any signal here," she stated, but didn't seem too worried.
"Do they know you're here?"
Yn nodded, "You?"
"Carlos will probably come looking for me any minute now," he tried to convince himself, taking another pull from his beer.
They sat in silence for a beat, the wind making their cheeks cold and the noises of the party muffled by the distance, until Yn started talking about racing, Lando following the train, catching the ride and the opportunity to talk with her and not embarrass himself trying to figure a good topic.
"How do you keep up with all the traveling?"
He chuckles, "Sometimes you don't."
"Oh-"
"Yeah, it can be tiring for the drivers as well, but we just...get used to it I guess. Most of us- all of us, have been driving since we were kids."
"mmhhh, so a bunch of outlaws?"
"What?"
"Driving when it wasn't even legal yet," and she answered with a straight face, no hint of amusement, so much Lando thought she was talking serious, and when he opened his mouth to explain, a nervous look crossed his features, Yn started laughing.
"That was a terrible joke, but you fell for it so..."
"Horrible," he shook his head with a small smile, tipping his bottle upon his mouth. "How about you? How are you keeping up? Are you coming for the next race?"
"I'm exhausted. But I'm also excited about the next stop. I'm definitely joining. I'm just getting my maps ready because Ferrari has a bunch of media stuff this next week and Charles won't be able to be a huge company in exploring...not that he was a big one this last week, but, yeah."
"I can go with you...that is if you want, I can keep you company, I know the next stop pretty well, I used to go there on vacation with my family during my teenage years," Lando shoots his shot, half expecting her to let him down gently, but Yn gifts him with a bright big smile.
"Would you?"
"Yeah, totally."
"Perfect then," she crossed her legs sitting more comfortably on the couch, neck resting on the headrest, while she watched the dark sky above them. "Now, tell me about your side gig- Carlos told me you're into DJ stuff?"
Lando crossed his legs too, his shoulders aligned with hers, staring at the sky as well. He turned his head to the side, and she was already looking at him. He bit his lips to keep the infatuated smile from showing and started telling her about the things he liked to do besides racing. Yn shared with him as well. She told how she and Charles had met, how she loved music, and though she was into sports, she didn't practice any. She told him about her family, studies, and job. And Lando listened to everything attentively, feeling his silly little crush grow with each giggle and look she shared.
A couple hours later, when Carlos and Charles went to check, Yn had her head on Lando's shoulder, both were sound asleep on the couch. The Ferrari duo snapped a picture, and a high five for playing cupid to what would eventually become one of the paddock's favorite couples.

hey p this is nobody you know but do you have thoughts about depot mouse seeing something they shouldn't have seen? 😇
hello friend! (who i definitely don't know, no siree) i waffled over this and my search results are now full of dubiously legal activities that i definitely haven't ever seen in practice, not even once mr/ms/mx GCHQ person checking online traffic. (i also got distracted by portakabin set ups, but that's a separate issue.) and then my brain spat this out for the tradieverse.
does it answer the prompt? eh, vaguely. but i hope you'll be pleased with it.
tags/tw: non-sexual semi-nudity, russian pet names (pchelka = little bee, myshka = mouse, milaya = darling/sweetie/dearest), light angst at the end, and a very brief mention of choking.
author's note: barely skimmed for typos and bad grammar as always and a patented (by @/391780) abrupt ending because i couldn't figure out how to end it and it was getting away from me.
Tumblr media
at this point, you're certain nikolai thinks it's funny to have you running around after him. flitting from your office to the driver's "lounge" (another portakabin, this time outfitted with a row of lockers, a sagging sofa, a table and set of scattered chairs, and a small kitchenette area), you yank open the door and your waspish comments die on your tongue.
nikolai is leaning against the counter of the kitchenette. in his pants. in just his pants.
unbidden your eyes skate over his broad shoulders, down over a glimmering gold chain that is nestled in thick, dark hair that spreads wildly over his chest to a soft stomach, to land on the tightest pair of black briefs you've ever seen.
"hello, myshka." nik's voice snaps you out of your staring and you feel heat flooding your cheeks as you tear your gaze away from his... underwear to meet his amused brown eyes.
"i, um, i was looking for you." you absolutely do not let your eyes drop below his neck as nik redistributes his weight as he laughs.
"and now you have found me." nik grins, a flash of surprisingly white teeth considering the amount of black tea and cigarettes he imbibes.
"yes, i wanted to - sorry, but why exactly are you in your pants?" you blurt out.
nik shrugs his broad shoulders and you drag your gaze up to look just past his left ear where a damp lock of black hair curls lazily.
"my clothes are wet." he says simply, like that explains everything. it probably does, knowing the very little you do know about nik.
there's a beat of silence where nik continues to grin and you ignore the way your neck and face are blazing with heat.
"right." you clear your throat uncomfortably. "anyway, i need your receipts."
"it's no problem, i've already handed them to farah." nik waves your words off with a lazy flap of his hand.
"yes, it is a problem! you can't just hand your receipts off to the head of the company, nikolai!" you huff irritably and nikolai interrupts you with a loud boisterous laugh.
"ah, pchelka." he sighs fondly, "always so busy running around, you miss what's right in front of your nose."
that brings you up short and you scowl furiously at him. of course he would think that, all he has to worry about to getting from the depot to the job site and back again. he isn't having to chase wayward drivers around for scraps of paper, or answering the phone to a disgruntled jonathan price when he can't get hold of nikolai, or answering emails with the subject line "how much 4 hardcore??" that you hope to god have come from a bot and not some sad, lonely weirdo thinking that a haulage company offers pornography.
the grin on nik's face flickers slightly and you see his eyes are no longer amused, but soft, almost apologetic.
"sweetness, i'm sorry. i didn't mean to imply-"
"it's fine." you interrupt him, your tone has gone flat and professional despite the way frustration burns at your lungs, urging you to unload all of your irritation on the man. "i'll just go ask farah for the receipts."
nik takes a step towards you.
"milaya -"
"no, really nik." you turn away to push at the door, "thank you for your help as always." you shove open the door and stomp across the dirt to the office you share with farah, leaving nik behind you in his underpants.
(later in the afternoon, after you had emailed farah to send you copies of nikolai's receipts, you lean back in your chair and refuse to let your mind drift back to the glittering gold chain resting on nik's collarbone.
and if you do, it's only because you're thinking about wrapping it around your fist to strangle the insufferable man with it, honest. )

The Uncertainty of Domesticity
Toji Fushiguro x Female Reader
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 of 3
Toji Fushiguro wasn’t afraid of much, though he definitely felt so when he became a widower in the same moment he became a father. Years later, he felt it again when you came along with the same hopes and dreams for a future he never thought he would experience again.
Content: JJK universe but no canon events / strangers & neighbors to lovers / medium burn idk / female reader and referred to as such but left descriptively vague / no y/n / out of character and soft Toji / single-father Toji / A little NSFW - brief mention/implication of vaginal sex so please avoid accordingly - but I can't write smut to save my life so it's not very explicit / Megumi-Mama/Mamaguro dies in childbirth and its mentioned once or twice / cutie pie child Megumi / fluff / slice of life / light angst from Toji's inner turmoil / discussions about having children / pregnancy and childbirth for reader / more notes below
WC: 9.2k (*nervous laughter*)
Notes:
Y'all....this thing is 9.2k words. It probably should've been split into another part, but I didn't and I'm just leaving it be. I'm sorry if it feels a bit "choppy?" I could've happily kept writing about all the little moments in between the parts shown, but I'm not sure if it ever would've ended at that point.
Also, I'm posting this at nearly 2:00 am my time because my end of week/upcoming weekend just got very busy and it's now or never, so please forgive any typos. I reread this chapter until I went crosseyed.
------------------------------
Toji Fushiguro liked to consider himself capable of many things.
He, as a single father, had raised his son from infancy into a fine six and a half year old.
He was a teacher, no matter how unwilling, and had successfully kept all his students alive thus far.
He was your partner, doting and caring of your every whim and utterly wrapped around your finger.
So, when he and Megumi woke up from a late afternoon nap in the middle of the summer only to step into a puddle of water in front of their kitchen sink, Toji was adamant he was capable of repairing the situation, regardless of his lack of experience in such an area. He mopped up the water, gathered tools, and squeezed himself under the sink the best he could considering his size. At some point, Megumi must have run across the street to fetch you because your legs appeared in his limited field of vision followed by your smug grin as you bent down to check on him.
Your eyes glittered in a way that was betelling of your mischievousness, and Toji grimaced. “Having fun?”
“Just hand me a wrench from the counter, please.”
You did as Toji asked without comment, and began to fill the silence (and test Toji’s concentration) with chatter about plans for the weekend in between his intermittent string of curses when something went amiss. As an hour went by with little progress to show for it, you made yourself comfortable on the floor next to Toji’s feet while Megumi had since found something outside to occupy himself with. When you felt water begin to tickle your toes, you reached out your foot to nudge it against Toji’s calf.
“I mean this in the kindest, least offensive way,” you told him, “but don’t you think it’s about time we call a plumber?” Somewhere under the sink, metal clanged and Toji barked out an expletive followed by a groan of pain.
“No,” he insisted grouchily, and you watched as he used his legs to wedge himself further under the sink. “I think I almost got it.”
Your answering hum was full of disbelief, but Toji paid it no mind, even if he could start to feel the coolness of water seeping into the cuff of his pants. If only he could reach one more inch…
His concentration was interrupted when Megumi’s scream of pain filtered in through the open windows. Toji lurched upwards out of sheer instinct and hit his head hard enough against the metal piping that he saw stars. Through the haze of pain and spots across his vision, he saw you dash out the door, and primal parental instinct forced Toji out of the cramped space so he could tend to his child’s cries. When he finally managed to stagger out the front door, you were on your knees on the concrete cradling a sobbing Megumi to your chest. His bike lay on its side just a step away, and from how his son’s left arm was sitting limply over his lap and already changing colors, Toji suspected a hospital trip was in order for what was clearly a broken bone. He approached and you looked up at him with eyes that were glassy with your own tears, your heart breaking for how badly the little boy was in pain. Toji brushed a quick hand over your cheek before crouching down to meet Megumi’s eyes.
“Alright, Megs,” he coaxed, and the sight of his son’s face clenched in distress and wet with tears was a sight Toji would never get over, “we’ll get you up and to the doctor to start feeling better, okay?” Megumi didn’t react to his words, but when Toji reached out to scoop him into his arms, he wailed harder and tightened the good arm he had wrapped around your neck, burying his face deeper into your chest. Surprise fluttered over your face and then it turned apologetic towards Toji, but he shook his head, the shock of his son’s preference for you in this moment not nearly as important. Instead, Toji carefully helped you up while you held onto Megumi and led the two of you to the car with a protective arm wrapped around your shoulders.
The evening at the hospital passed in a similar manner. You reclined in a bed with Megumi against your chest while a doctor looked at his arm and Toji filled out paperwork. You murmured in the boy’s ear and brushed his hair back in soothing movements to try and distract him from the pain. When a nurse came in with an IV kit in hand, you let Megumi cry into your neck while Toji helped hold his right arm still. Eventually, after he drifted off to sleep, you took a seat next to Toji on the right side of Megumi’s bed while the doctor set his arm and fixed a cast onto it. The entire time, the worried father remained ramrod straight with eyes fixed on every move the doctor made, and he had your hand clenched between the two of his on his lap. You leaned to the side to rest your head against his shoulder, and adoration tightened your chest when Toji let out an anxious huff before turning his head to press his lips to your forehead.
When the whole thing was said and done and the three of you were discharged once Megumi was awake enough, you rubbed a comforting hand over Toji’s back as he carried his son to the car. Once home, the two of you worked to get Megumi changed and ready for bed, a delicate task when having to take caution with the state of his arm. Thankfully, the edge was taken off by painkillers, and he dazedly chatted about the cool blue cast on his arm and how he couldn’t wait to show it off to Yuji. Toji promised to get him markers for him to draw on it with while you persuaded him to get under the blankets after assuring him you’d bake a giant batch of cookies tomorrow in reward for his bravery.
Toji took the time to place Megumi’s favorite stuffed animals around him and tucked him further into the blankets. You read him a bedtime story while Toji lay stretched out next to the two of you, and by the end of it, Megumi’s eyes were drooping heavily and his mouth had fallen open just the slightest. You gently lifted Megumi’s broken arm up so that Toji could settle a pillow under it, and after bidding the boy goodnight, he got up so you could slide in next to him. He watched with a thudding heart as you scanned his son up and down with fretful eyes and let your hands flutter nervously about him. You pushed some of the hair away from Megumi’s forehead and leaned down carefully to place a gentle kiss between his brows. When you looked back at Toji with a sad, wobbly smile on your lips but a determined gleam in your eyes in order to be brave for the little boy in front of you, Toji realized in that moment that he had fallen in love with you, and in the same breath decided that he was going to marry you, nearly a year to the day he met you in the middle of a grocery store.
And later, when the two of you lay exhausted under the blankets of his bed, Toji rolled over onto his side to mold every inch of himself against your back and nestled his chin into the crook of your shoulder so his lips could brush against your ear.
“Marry me,” he whispered, not so much asking as he was pleading. You were already half asleep, but he felt the shake of your shoulders as quiet laughter blew out from your nose, and you threaded your fingers up through his from where they were draped over your hip.
“Of course,” you breathed, and Toji tightened his arms around you. He left a kiss on the back of your neck and let his eyes slide shut as he basked in the warmth of your body and smell of your lotion and the incandescent joy in realizing that he’d never have to go another night without it—without you.
“But ask me again later so I can see you properly down on one knee.”
A week later, because Toji Fushiguro was powerless to anything you demanded of him, he did as you asked in the middle of his kitchen while you, him, and Megumi still lounged in your pajamas and were only halfway done making breakfast. His son clapped excitedly when you squealed out a ‘yes’ and Toji grinned with pride as you admired the simple gold band that adorned your finger. Satisfaction made his heart full and your smile soothed his soul, but eagerness had him marrying you in a government building just a couple days later.
------------------------------
It wasn’t until Megumi’s seventh birthday that Toji realized stalling wasn’t going to work much longer.
The months following your marriage had been busy with moving him and Megumi into your house across the street since it was bigger and didn’t hold the memories of a tragic past Toji was ready to move on from. The end of the summer had brought school for him and Megumi back into full swing, and two weeks into it Toji was ready to quit when all his students could focus on was the new ring on his left hand. Most of them were congratulatory in their teasing, but a few made jests about their disbelief that someone could bother marrying their grouch of a teacher, and while Toji had half a mind to bring you by just to shut them up, he decided it was kinder to not subject you to a particular white-haired menace.
By the time the three of you got settled into the normalcy of being a new family, the year was already coming to a close and Megumi was turning seven. As requested, you had baked his son a double chocolate cake and covered the top in rainbow sprinkles. Toji had taken the time to pipe little swirls of frosting around the edges, though some were lopsided and varied in size (such small, precise tasks were simply too big of an ask for the size of his hands), but Megumi didn’t seem to care when the two of you placed it in front of him on the table, candles lit orange and reflecting off the wideness of his eyes.
After singing and clapping, right as Megumi filled his cheeks with as much air as he could manage to blow his candles out in a single breath, you threw your hands out over them in an attempt to keep them aflame for just a moment longer.
“Wait, Megumi,” you gasped, yanking your hands back when the heat of the candles scorched a bit too close to your skin. Toji immediately gathered them into his to inspect your palms, but you shook them away, not minding his grumble as the brief sting faded. “You have to make a wish!”
Megumi’s mouth dropped open into a perfect ‘o’ as he nodded vigorously. “Oh, yeah,” he chirped. “I forgot.”
He immediately squeezed his eyes closed, and you and Toji watched in amusement as he scrunched up his nose and squirmed in his seat. You took the opportunity to snap a couple of pictures, and when he was done, Megumi’s eyes popped back open and he took in a great inhale before blowing out his candles all at once. You cheered while Toji ruffled his son’s hair, and Megumi looked quite proud of himself as you slid the cake towards you to cut him a piece worthy of being eaten on his birthday. Both of you chastised Toji when he kept insisting you make his piece bigger and bigger, almost so that he nearly had half the cake on his plate alone by the time it was all said and done.
“Hey, Kid,” Toji said around a mouthful of cake while you pointedly took a polite bite of your own, “what did you wish for?” Megumi begrudgingly tore his attention from his cake, and you swatted at Toji’s arm from across the table.
“You’re not supposed to ask!” you exclaimed, but he simply rolled his eyes and shook his head good naturedly before returning his focus back onto his plate. At the head of the table, Megumi stared at you with an all too knowing look for a fresh six year old and then set his sights on his father with an unimpressed quirk to his brow.
“I wished for a baby brother or sister.”
Toji promptly choked on the large bite of cake he had shoved into his mouth moments prior to Megumi’s unexpected declaration, and your lips parted in shock. Meanwhile, Megumi eyed the two of you expectedly as Toji hacked and coughed. You jumped from your chair to grab him a glass of water, then set it down next to him while rubbing a soothing hand between his shoulder blades.
“Now, Megumi,” you began, not so much stern but intentionally practical, and he looked up at you with wide, attentive eyes, “babies, uhm, take their time getting here…” you trailed off and turned your head to your husband with an alarmed look on your face, but Toji was still working on regaining his breath and chugging his water and could only offer a shrug of his shoulders while he pursed his lips in defeat.
You sighed and faced Megumi again with a weary smile. “Babies take their time getting here and that’s after their parents decide to have one. Any baby brother or sister will have to spend nine whole months growing in my belly before they arrive, so you’ll have to try and be real patient for us, okay?”
Megumi’s face fell dejectedly, and if Toji looked hard enough, there was a hint of disappointment on your features too. He watched as you playfully pinched at the boy’s cheeks and tempted him back into a happy mood with the hint of birthday gifts waiting for him in the living room. The whole exchange had guilt weighing heavy on Toji’s shoulders, and he had the bitter realization that it was his own fear—the one that lied solely in the scant possibility that you could meet the same fate as the only other woman he had ever loved—that caused the frown on yours and Megumi’s faces.
In spite of that fear, Toji had promised you something, and in the six months since the two of you had been married, you hadn’t chastised him or given him grief when he pulled out at the last moment to spend himself across your stomach or back. You didn’t question him when he had a hard time meeting your eyes as he tore open a foil packet to remove the condom from inside. He knew your trust in him far surpassed whatever insecurities he wrestled with, but it didn’t make him feel less like a failure every time.
So later that night, when Toji found himself above you and nestled in the warmth between your legs, he leaned into the security of your arms and sought reassurance in the taste of your lips as he came to his own end after ensuring yours. You ran your fingers down his back and whispered sweet nothings into his ear when the racing of his heart and trembling of his muscles could no longer be blamed on the energy he expended while pleasuring his wife.
------------------------------
You suspected something was amiss a couple months later. Toji had brought home your favorite take-out for dinner, and while the first bite was as pleasant as usual, every one after tasted more and more like cardboard and settled uncomfortably in your stomach until your appetite was thoroughly gone. You questioned whether it was something more and that maybe your period wouldn’t appear in just a couple of days, but when Megumi began to complain of an upset stomach toward the end of the meal, you banished the thought out of your head.
However, two days after while you were cooking that evening’s dinner, one whiff of the package of raw chicken you had just cut open had you violently gagging and running for the nearest bathroom while ignoring Megumi’s call of alarm when you passed him in the living room. Your knees hit tile as you retched into the bowl of the toilet, and you weren’t sure how much time had passed when you were finally able to lift your head. You trembled on your spot on the floor and felt more tired than you had been in weeks. Nausea made your head spin, and you wondered if you’d ever be able to look at chicken again the same way. Just the sheer thought of it had your mouth souring, and your repulsiveness for it went deep into your bones.
When you finally caught your breath and were mostly confident you had emptied everything in your stomach, you pushed yourself off the floor and rinsed your mouth before exiting the bathroom. Megumi stood on the other side of the door with his lips turned down in concern and your phone in his hand. When he raised it up to you, Toji’s name was displayed at the top of an ongoing call.
“Hey,” is all you said when you brought the phone to your ear.
“Megumi called and said something was wrong with you. Are you okay?” Toji’s voice wasn’t panicked, but you sensed the worry in it, and you could imagine his face looked much like his son’s had moments ago.
“I was making dinner a few minutes ago, and the smell of the raw chicken…” you had to trail off when just telling him what happened made you gag a little. You hadn’t yet stepped away from the doorway of the bathroom, but you weren’t in a hurry to have to go back in, so you took a few deep breaths until the feeling passed. Megumi hugged your leg as he gazed up at you in concern and you patted the top of his head in reassurance.
“Ah,” Toji remarked.
“Yup.”
Toji cleared his throat after a moment of quiet and then asked a question that sent nerves skittering down your spine. “Want me to pick up a test on the way home?”
“Please.”
Later that night, after Megumi was tucked in bed, the two of you waited anxiously as the timer on your phone counted down from three minutes. Two pregnancy tests lay face down on the counter. You nibbled on the skin of your cuticle while Toji bounced his knee from where he sat on the closed toilet lid.
“I mean, it’s not as if we weren’t expecting this to happen,” you pointed out, shaking your hands in front of you in an attempt to dislodge the nervousness from your body, and Toji snorted.
“Yeah, certainly not.” He wiggled his eyebrows flirtatiously, and the smirk that tugged at the scar on his lip made your cheeks flush hot, and you rolled your eyes at him. As the two of you continued to wait as the seconds on your phone seemed to crawl by, a thought popped into your head.
“Is it as nerve-wracking the second time around? Or is it easier?” you asked him gently, and you saw Toji’s features soften as his eyes went nostalgic. He worked his mouth in contemplation—perhaps in recollection—and then shook his head.
“No, it’s uh, just as shocking I’d say—at least for me.” He pushed off his knees and came to stand next to you. “I think it’ll be this way no matter how many times we do it.” The thought of one day doing this a second time had the breath rushing out of you, but you filed the image away for a future discussion. It wasn’t something you had the capacity to consider now, not while you were currently waiting to see if you were about to become a mother.
The shrill noise from your phone that indicated the timer had run down made the two of you jump a foot in the air, and you looked to Toji with wide eyes.
“Take that one?” you offered, pointing with a trembling finger to the test that would answer with words versus a combination of lines, and Toji was suddenly very grateful he grabbed two different kinds at the store. While he knew he could squint at a test and convince himself that an extra line may or may not be visible, he was almost a hundred percent positive he wouldn’t suddenly become illiterate and unable to distinguish between “pregnant” and “not pregnant.”
He nodded, and at the same time, the two of you reached for each test on the counter and flipped them over close to your faces only for your jaws to drop simultaneously. You turned to each other, wide eyed and bewildered (as if you didn’t know what the two of you had been doing these last couple months) because “pregnant” and two dark lines could not be misunderstood.
You brought your free hand up to your mouth to cover it as unabashed laughter poured from your lips, and Toji wrapped his arms around your shoulders to yank you into his chest. Joy spurred him into kissing you deeply, and the pure love and elation in your eyes when you pulled back was enough for Toji to feel the first stirrings of excitement at the prospect of having a child with you.
It wasn’t until later in the night, in the dark of your shared bedroom with nothing but the evenness of your breathing to interrupt the noise in his head that Toji could admit to himself that the entirety of it terrified him.
------------------------------
“That’s a baby?” Megumi’s voice was full of skepticism, and he eyed the ultrasound photo with disgruntled disbelief as you pointed at the grey and white blob in a sea of black.
“Yes, Megumi,” you giggled, smiling at Toji over the little boy’s shoulder as the three of you sat cuddled in your bed, “that’s your sibling. They are very small right now, but next time they’ll look bigger and more like a baby.”
He wasn’t appeased by your answer, and he crossed his arms with a little huff of disappointment that had Toji struggling to muffle his laughter. The two of you had just returned from your first doctor’s appointment and had decided to break the news to Megumi now that you had a picture to confirm it, and while he had taken it well, he clearly was expecting more.
“How long till it gets here?” he asked, glancing up at you, but Toji replied first.
“Doctor said January. You’re gonna have to be patient, Megs.” Toji grinned at his son, but Megumi looked even more unenthused than before and glowered at his father.
“Why’d you have to take so long to have a baby?” he muttered, and the words wiped the smile clean off Toji’s face as you shook with laughter. With a pained look on his face, Toji simply shoved a pillow playfully over Megumi’s head and tickled him in the ribs to distract him from the question at hand.
You used the opportunity to burrow under the blankets as your eyes began to grow heavy. Nausea, fatigue, and a general feeling of being unwell had plagued you from the moment the pregnancy test had turned positive, and you hoped an afternoon in bed and watching movies would offer a reprieve. You had just begun to drift off when you heard Megumi ask for Toji’s attention.
“Dad, where do babies come from?”
------------------------------
“I don’t think there’s much in that book you have to worry about,” Toji told you on a night that found the two of you lounging in your room after Megumi went to sleep. He was lazily folding laundry from his perch at the foot of the bed. You were reclined back against the headboard with said book in your lap. One hand rested against the curve of your belly that had just started to protrude against the fabric of your clothes in the last week, and the other dog-eared every other page laden with information about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborns.
“Perhaps,” you said, setting the book down on your thighs, and the pointed look you gave him made it clear you didn’t feel the same, “but that’s easy for you to say—you’ve done this before.”
A harsh laugh fell from Toji’s mouth before he had a chance to stop it, and he tossed a bundle of socks in his hand at the tower he had made of his folded boxers. “Yeah, well, I wasn’t doing a very good job of it. We were barely surviving.”
He watched as the pile of fabric warbled upon impact, and just as it began to tilt, you shot your foot out to brace it in place. When Toji looked up at you, frustration didn’t furrow your brow or pinch your nose. Instead, your smile was gentle and understanding.
“I know,” you said, voice soft, and it carried an undercurrent of reassurance.
Toji released a deep breath and tilted up the scarred corner of his mouth in a way that he hoped looked contrite. He reached for the stack of his boxers and righted them so you could lower your leg back down. “I’m probably not the best person to get advice from anyway.”
You tilted your head to the right, perplexed by his unusual self-deprecation. “I wouldn’t say so.”
Toji just shrugged and continued fiddling with the last bits of laundry.
“Sure, you’re a little rough around the edges.”
“Can’t deny that,” he grumbled.
“You can be a bit grumpy sometimes, and you have a history of giving in to questionable decisions and habits.”
Toji shot you a withering look. “You really know how to kick a guy while he’s down.”
“And,” you emphasized, holding up your hand to indicate that you weren’t finished, “you have a really tragic backstory that just makes the whole thing sad.”
For once, Toji seemed to be struck speechless, stupefied by the bluntness of your words, and the bundle of socks he had been playing with rolled from his hand.
“But,” you said, “there’s no one else I’d rather be doing this with than you, Toji.” Your husband, who had clearly been a bit rankled by the conversation, melted. The tension released from his shoulders and the puckered set of his lips smoothed out into a dopey grin as his countenance perked up.
“I love you too,” he teased, his tone light and easy, “even if you are something else.”
You beamed at him as he got up to gather the laundry in his arms and set it in on the dresser in front of your bed, intending to deal with it tomorrow. He then flopped onto his stomach on the bed next to you, shaking the whole thing under his weight, and if the two of you hadn’t already thoroughly tested its limits, you’d worry about its ability to handle the size of him. The thought had your blood suddenly running hot and you rolled onto your side to nip at his ear when a different sensation in your lower half made you pause.
For the last two weeks you had been feeling the tiny bubbles in your stomach and knew that your baby had gotten big enough for you to begin to take notice of its movement. However, this was the first time it felt significant enough to be noticed from the outside. You returned to your position on your back and pressed your hand lightly into the skin under your belly button. Nothing happened for a minute, and just as you were ready to give up, you felt the faintest hiccup against your palm.
“Toji!” you blurted, and you urged yourself to stay still despite your excitement lest your little one move again and hide away.
“You going to insult me again?” Toji’s voice was muffled from where his face was mushed into his pillow.
“No,” you scoffed, wiggling your fingers at him even though he couldn’t see, “come here.” He groaned in protest but propped himself up on his elbows to shift onto his side nonetheless, and you snapped your hand out to grab his.
“What are you—,”
“Shh!” You didn’t bother explaining as you covered his hand with yours and settled it onto your belly where yours had just been. His jaw shut with an audible click. You watched Toji’s expression carefully as you waited for another burst of movement, and even though you knew this wasn’t a foreign experience to him like it was to you, overwhelming joy filled you to your depths when his eyes glossed over with wonder as his child wiggled against his palm. He was quick to gather you to his chest with the arm that wasn’t draped over your hip and you tucked your head under his chin in an attempt to snuggle as close to him as you could manage.
“Megumi’s going to get a kick out of that tomorrow—literally.” Toji’s voice was thick with emotion, as well as amusement at his own cleverness, and you swatted at his chest. But your laughter deceived you and Toji placed kisses all along the top of your head.
------------------------------
Toji wondered if all the blood on the floor was retribution for the amount of it he had spilled in the years before. It pooled slowly, eating up the white of the tile and creeping closer until it stained the tip of his shoes. He was empty, void of anything really, and maybe this was the curse doomed to follow him. Loneliness, robbed of anyone precious to him, and instead of incandescent joy that should have taken over him at the sight of his newly born child, nothing except for seething rage and despair filled his mind. There was hatred for a family name that he had already tried to escape, a desire to soothe himself in all the previous vices that had once kept him occupied, and bewilderment that he was somehow in the same situation again.
It was all eerily similar, from the sudden rush of panicked movement in the room to the way he fell back into a cushioned chair, just barely conscious of the baby in his arms. The face of his late wife and yours flashed back and forth, superimposed onto each other as the two of you laid still with eyes closed and arms slackened at your sides. A shrill whine, a solid ringing filled his ears and silenced all other noise.
Not again. Not again, not again, not ag—,
Years of discipline kept Toji from jolting into wakefulness, but he did suck in a mouthful of air when his eyes opened and took in the darkness of your bedroom. He wasn’t trapped in the sterile four walls of a hospital room, nor was he struck numb by the darkness of your blood. Instead, sweat stuck the sheets to the skin of his back, and above him the fan you always insisted be on spun quickly. The thought of you had his hand clambering across to your side of the bed, but when all that met his fingers was the unusual coolness of your pillow, he lurched upwards, flipped on his bedside lamp, and searched the room.
Rationality told Toji that you were probably fine, that you were in the bathroom or the living room and would be back any second. Rationality would tell him that there wasn’t any need for him to seek you out and confirm you were alive with his own eyes. But adrenaline, a tragic memory, and the nausea simmering in his gut drove him from bed and onto his feet, clad only in his boxers.
Toji was still a bit disoriented from his nightmare, and he tried to be extra mindful of his heavy footfalls as he passed the door of Megumi’s room. As he neared the end of the hallway, he heard the faintest plink of metal against glass and the racing of his heart slowed at the sound before ultimately returning to normal when saw you in the kitchen.
Despite it being well into the middle of the night, you leaned back onto the kitchen counter with a bowl of cereal in your hands and a happy hum in the back of your throat. Your belly sat low between your hips, pulling taut the fabric of his shirt that served as your outfit of choice as of late, and the sight of it was a reminder that you were nearing the end of nine months now. Nervousness was a constant state Toji was in as your due date rapidly approached, and if he thought too hard about it, panic would shorten his breath and tunnel his vision, such as it was beginning to do in that moment. Thus, Toji wasn’t sure if he made a noise or if you just happened to notice him out of your peripheral vision when you turned your head to him, curiosity taking over your face.
“Did I wake you?” you whispered, spooning one last bite of cereal into your mouth before setting it into the sink behind you. Toji shook his head and padded over to your side. He dropped his head to rest his cheek on your hair and trailed a hand down your stomach to spread his palm over the front of it. Satisfaction coursed through his veins when you let out a happy, weary sigh and leaned into his chest to rest your weight against him.
Toji knew you were struggling. He knew your hips ached and it made walking a chore. He knew that your back only stopped hurting after he rubbed the muscles loose for half an hour and that everything including breathing had become difficult for you. The baby kicked you awake during the night, and if you weren’t tossing and turning in an attempt to get comfortable, you were up and going to the bathroom for the nth time. Toji did his best to dote on you in between his job, taking care of Megumi, and doing all the chores around the house. He certainly did want this to be all over for you so you could bask in the enjoyment of motherhood, but each day closer to your child’s birth spiked his anxiety exponentially higher, and he ashamedly wished he could ignore what was to come.
“Would you like to go back to bed?” he asked, taking a step backwards.
You nodded your head unwillingly. “I’m too uncomfortable to sleep right now. If I stay up and watch TV in bed will that bother you?”
“No,” he replied immediately, and Toji was secretly glad he wouldn’t have to stare up at a dark ceiling, too afraid to close his eyes when all he wanted to do was bask in the warmth of your body and the steady rise and fall of your chest.
The two of you made a slow walk back to your room, and Toji helped you into bed and shifted the pillows behind your back until you were as comfortable as can be in your given state. He scrubbed his hands over his face to rid his eyes of the tiredness that lingered behind them and then slid in next to you as you focused on flipping through channels on the TV. Toji snaked his right arm under the small of your back and wound his left across your lap so his hand could cup the side of your belly and then set the side of his face on the top of it. Your fingers came to scratch through his hair absentmindedly, and the relief that Toji felt from your touch and the quiet thump of your heart was nearly instantaneous.
As minutes ticked by and most of the lingering tension from his nightmare had subsided, Toji still found himself tapping against the side of your stomach and pushing his fingers against it in an effort to get his child to respond to him.
You reached an arm over his head to prod at the center of your belly yourself. “He’s been wiggling around a bunch throughout the day, but he might be right about here…” you trailed off just in time for Toji to feel a quick bump under his cheek.
“I think you meant ‘she,’ isn’t that right?” he said with a smile. Only one of you was to be right about who your child was destined to be, but neither would know until they came out to meet you.
“No, ‘he’ was correct, thank you very much.” Affection warmed his body and Toji pressed his fingers back into your skin so he could feel the movement again. The baby reciprocated his touch each time until Toji finally relented and figured you’d appreciate the break from being repeatedly poked and prodded. Your palm drifted down to cup his jaw and the swiping of your thumb over it was enough to lull him into the beginnings of sleep. He snuggled a bit closer into your side and let out a great exhale, recalling how you had once made a comment likening him to a large, lounging dog. Toji supposed he could understand what you meant. Really, at the end of the day, all he wanted to do was cling close to you and bask in the pleasure of your touch.
While Toji knew that no amount of time he spent listening to your heartbeat or prompting his child into movement would prevent a cruel fate from bestowing you both should it be decided, he would let himself pretend if it meant keeping himself together enough to see it through.
------------------------------
As a surprise to no one at all, childbirth was just as nerve wracking for Toji the second time around as it was the first.
It didn’t help that he had been on pins and needles since your due date had come and gone, so when you stumbled out of bed and into the living room on the morning of the third day passed, your hand clutching your stomach and a harrowed expression on your face, Toji was coiled tight enough that he sprung into movement. He flung Megumi over his shoulder and was across the room at the same moment to grab the bags you kept at the ready by the front door. By the time you walked out, teetering between amusement at how your husband scurried about and uneasiness at the thought of what was about to happen to your body, Toji already had the car loaded and turned on. A few minutes later, you almost felt bad for Megumi when Toji stopped outside the Itadori’s house to practically throw him at Yuji’s dad—followed by his overnight bag—had the boy not already been hollering to his best friend about how he was about to get a new baby sibling.
At the hospital, the terrible familiarity of the beige walls and speckled tile had Toji desperate to pace the room at how trapped he felt, but the desire to stay put next to your bedside and keep your hand in his won out. Labor could take hours, that he knew, and Toji spent every moment of it cycling his eyes between the baby’s heart monitor, your face, and the clock on the wall. Each time your expression would twist into a pained grimace, your hand would crush his and a potent cocktail of adrenaline, fear, and anticipation would send his heart racing.
When the day turned into evening, just an hour before midnight, a doctor placed Toji Fushiguro’s second son onto your bare chest, much to his shock and delight. The noise in the room threatened to overwhelm him—the excited exclamations of the nurses, your panted gasps, the shrill crying of a newborn baby--but Toji wouldn’t let anything tear his focus from you. He stared at how wisps of your hair stuck to your temples in sweat, the red of your cheeks, how your eyes were full of tears and wonder and flicked back and forth between him and your child. Toji knew (how he wished he didn’t) that you could be fine in one instant and dead in the next, but for every minute that passed where you still breathed and your heart kept beating, he could feel the fear slowly trickle from his body.
Once he was an hour old, Toji held his son for the first time as he sat next to you on your hospital bed. The baby had your nose and tufts of hair the same color as yours, and Toji realized with a sudden pain in his chest that he didn’t remember Megumi in his first couple hours. He couldn’t recall what it felt like to hold him for the first time, nor did he know how much he weighed just after birth. All the tiny details he assumed every parent would remember until the end of their days was overshadowed by a curtain of devastation, the death of his wife wiping it clean from his memory.
So this time, when the room was quiet and he had you leaning against him, he studied every part of his newborn with rapt attention, determined to commit every detail to perfect recollection. And unlike before, in a moment he’ll always mourn, Toji felt peace and quiet and something indescribably blissful.
------------------------------
It wasn’t so much that Toji forgot what it was like to have a newborn so much as he had completely blocked what could be considered some of the worst days of his life from his memory. He had been too sleep deprived to even properly grieve his wife and utterly shell shocked at the prospect of now being a widower and single dad. There had been no one to help, no one to encourage him when Megumi cried for two hours straight in the dead of night for a reason Toji couldn’t begin to figure out, no one to help him plan for a couple months down the line when his savings inevitably ran out and he’d have to figure out a safe, legal plan for employment or consider the risk of something illegal since it paid better.
Yet two weeks into it, when Toji was just starting to discern the difference between Megumi’s wails of hunger and those of exhaustion, someone knocked on his door. He grumbled the whole way down the hall in fear that the sound would wake the baby he had just spent the last hour putting down, and also because he couldn’t remember the last time he had eaten or let alone brushed his teeth. So, Toji figured he looked worse for wear when he swung the door open and glared at the man on the other side of it. He was middle aged and wore dark clothing and an even darker pair of sunglasses. He claimed he was an instructor at a school in the city and came to find him out when he heard that rumors began to swirl of Toji Zenin having a son. Toji had spat at him, snarling and enraged and cursing his old last name with vehemence, and he was all too ready to come to physical blows had his son not been sleeping just a few yards away. In the end, the man had just smiled and extended his hand with the promise of a job and to call him the next day. Toji had been wary, but he knew that pickiness wasn’t a luxury he could afford, and appeared at the gates of the school a week later with Megumi strapped to his chest.
Things were a bit different now, that at least Toji could acknowledge, and the heavy exhaustion that threatened to wrench his eyes shut and made his hands clumsy as he refilled your water bottle didn’t feel so catastrophic this time around. He squinted at the clock on the wall and sighed wearily when he realized the night wasn’t yet halfway over and the two of you were already up for the sixth time. Five day old newborns apparently would wake up and eat more frequently than he could remember, and each and every time he insisted on getting up with you to tend to any needs you had while ensuring his son got the meal he demanded. With an extra snack in hand and a full bottle of water, Toji shuffled back to your shared bedroom and quietly closed the door behind him.
“You fall asleep standing up at the counter again?” Your voice broke the silence and got a chuckle out of him as he fell onto the bed in a heap by your side.
“Something like that,” he muttered, but thankfully you didn’t pry and instead gave him a grateful smile when he unwrapped your granola bar and held it up to your mouth since your hands were preoccupied with holding the infant to your chest. You munched on it slowly, and in between bites you would settle  your head back against the pillows and let your eyes flutter shut, trusting your husband to keep a dutiful watch on the two of you. Toji moved closer to you so he could gently rest his head against your shoulder and peered down at his son as he got his fill of milk. He rubbed a tiny foot in between his thumb and forefinger and grinned at the soft suckling noises he made, amazed at how differently things felt this time. Toji was stunned at how having a new child felt so much like the first time since he could actually slow down to process it all now. Maybe this time, when history didn’t repeat himself and he was at home with the people he loved, contentment would allow the memories to stay.
------------------------------
It happened for the first time three weeks after your son was born.
That particular Saturday was dreary and wet, but it made for a cozy atmosphere as the four of you lounged about after a late morning breakfast. Toji was putting away the last remaining dishes. The TV played a vintage cartoon on low volume and Megumi sat on the floor in front of your feet as he colored quietly in his notebook. You sat curled up in the corner of the sofa with your newborn nestled in the crook of your arm, and you watched him, utterly transfixed. As he slept, his nose would twitch and his bottom lip would jut forward. Every once and a while, a dainty grunt would escape his mouth and he would squirm and stretch and whimper just a little before going still again as he drifted back into deeper sleep. He let out a yawn that seemed to take over his entire little body, and in the next moment he was blinking up at you with unfocused eyes as his lips smacked together once or twice. The sight of it made your heart feel as though it could burst, and you wiggled your finger into his clenched hand just to feel him hold onto it.
“Oh, hey, his eyes are open.” Toji’s voice caught you unaware, and you jolted a little at the suddenness of it. You glanced up at your husband from where he leaned against the arm of the couch to your right, and there was a soft smile on his face as he traced a finger gently down the apple of the baby’s cheek. The newborn’s eyes couldn’t hardly focus on his father’s face from how far it was, but it certainly seemed like he looked for Toji in the moment before his lashes fluttered and his eyes slid shut.
Toji drank in the sight of you two. There was a blissful glow to your features that couldn’t be missed, even through the signs of exhaustion that still lingered from another night of caring for a new baby. You barely paid him any mind as you smoothed your palm over the wispy hairs on your son’s head, and Toji decided that he would give you another couple minutes before gently urging you to take some time away to shower and do your morning routine should you feel like it. He pushed himself off the arm of the couch and made a move to step around it and sit down when Megumi spoke up from the floor.
“Mama?”
Megumi’s voice was barely above a whisper, and it was heartbreakingly timid. The single word punched all the air from Toji’s lungs and he stumbled mid-stride, just barely steading himself lest he land in a heap on top of his eldest son. Megumi didn’t move from where he was hunched over his notebook, still coloring carefully onto the paper, but Toji could see the burning red of his ears and how his eyes flicked back to take stock of your reactions before they went back to what was in front of him.
When Toji whipped his head towards you, you were already looking up at him with a wide, helpless expression. You had never once pushed passed a boundary Toji had yet to lift when it came to how you handled your roll as Megumi’s stepmother, and he could see from the way your eyes searched his that you were waiting for his guidance, his acquiescence before you dared to respond back to the little boy who had just referred to you as his mother despite you technically not being such.
To Toji’s endless gratitude, you had always treated his late wife with the utmost respect. While you almost always fielded Megumi’s questions about her to Toji, you didn’t hesitate to pull out photos of her when he asked, nor had you ever tried to erase her significance as Megumi’s mother over the time in which you had become a part of their family.
However, as Toji had come to acknowledge, there was no denying that Megumi had come to see you in that way. Not so much as the woman who had birthed him (Toji had explained that to him in child-friendly terms) but in every other way a mother would be seen. Megumi had no tangible connection to his late wife, no emotional attachment to the idea of her that Toji hoped one day would blossom as understanding matured in his mind, but to hold that expectation to him now wasn’t fair. Toji knew, as you looked at his son with tears of adoration and love in your eyes, that you had been making space for Megumi in your heart for a very long time in preparation for this possible moment, and he figured that having the love of a mother in the land of the living didn’t take away from the one now gone.
If nothing else, he supposed that Megumi would catch onto your shared habit eventually. Frequently did you and Toji refer to yourself as such when tending to the new little one.
“Shhh, Mama’s here,” you’d murmur when he wailed out his discomfort while the four of you watched TV in the early afternoon.
“Mama’s comin’, kid, I promise,” Toji would say when the baby would nuzzle into his chest in a search for milk when he and Megumi sat together on your bed while you showered at the end of the day.
So Toji swept a hand along your shoulder, capturing your attention, and his quivering smile paired well with the tear that trickled down your cheek when he nodded at you. Your hand swiped away the moisture from your skin and you cleared your throat.
“Yes, Megumi?” Your voice sounded a little thick and wet, but the boy spun around in astonished elation nonetheless, and his smile was so wide that Toji wondered if it stung the skin at all. Megumi jumped up to his feet but very cautiously approached you until he could rest his hands on your knees and stand on his tiptoes to try and look up at his baby brother.
“Mama, can I hold him?” You giggled and nodded as you reached out your hand to caress Megumi’s chin, and he squirmed where he stood as excitement made him antsy.
“Of course,” you told him. “Come sit next to me and your dad will sit on the other side to help you.” Toji felt his heart expand further than he thought possible when the two of you turned towards him with loving, expectant looks that spurred him into movement.
“Up you go, Megs,” he said, lifting his son up from under his arms so he could plop him down on the cushion next to you before taking a seat himself. He threw an arm along the back of the sofa so he could scootch in closer to you three. Once Megumi situated himself, you slowly transferred the sleeping infant to lay him in his brother’s lap, and Toji was there waiting with an open hand to help cup his head and neck.
“He’s still so small,” Megumi said quietly—wondrously—but you and Toji laughed at how the baby was still too big for Megumi to fully cradle in his arms.
“Don’t worry,” you said, “he’ll grow big before you know it, and then he’ll be ready to play all day with you.” Megumi offered you a small smile in response before he settled back to watching his little brother snooze in his arms. You propped your elbow on the back of the sofa so you could lean your head into your hand, and Toji stretched his fingers to swirl them against your arm. Your eyes met, still glimmering with the last remnants of joyful tears, and Toji was nearly overwhelmed by a surge of emotion as he took in the little family that the four of you made.
Fear had once hung like a heavy shadow over his hope for an idyllic future and his ability to experience it. Your smile and the small hands of his children were there to whisk it away.
------------------------------
A little bonus:
Three years after the birth of your son, a daughter made her appearance nearly two weeks early, thrilling her eagerly awaiting older brothers. For all the work you did, she came out a near exact copy of her father, and Toji had no problem letting you know how proud he was about it as you laid propped up next to him in your hospital bed.
“I’m telling you, there was a hint of green in them!”
You rolled your eyes playfully as you watched Toji recline your daughter against his knees with her head cradled in his palms so you could both gaze at her, and she looked positively tiny in the breadth of his hands.
“You know a baby’s eye color might shift from what it was at birth once they get a bit older. We can’t know for certain yet.”
The words seemed to have no effect on your husband, and he simply dropped a kiss to your temple and murmured a soft “we’ll see,” into your ear.
(To your surprise—and secret delight—Toji was right.)

Alright, normally I don't talk about drama but at this point, I'm pretty tired of it, so I'll just get this off my mind, because it's not like I'll change anything, but YALL ARE BEING SO FUCKING WEIRD WITH THIS LANDO AND MAGUI BULLSHIT.
I've never looked into it, but I'm just trying to scroll on tiktok or instagram and every few weeks I just get like 10 posts like "oh, Lando is in *place*, guess who else is there?", or I'll get a random clip of Lando in public that seems perfectly normal, oppen the comments, and everyone is saying that he's carrying her phone or something.
I can not understand why people care so much, it's not confirmed weather they are dating or not, it's literally just fans making speculations that have gone so far there are literal people who think they are in a public relationship because of so many people posting them and saying that they are 100% dating. If you want to speculate, do whatever you want, I can't stop you, but please just stop spreading misinformation.
I don't know what they are doing, and I don't care, I'm just minding my own business and you should too, whatever they're doing just let them live their lives and be happy for them or fucking explode with jealousy or whatever the fuck quietly, because I'm sick of my recommended/home/for you pages just being flodded with this bullshit.
If you want to know what I think about them, tho: from what I've seen it seems like he doesn't even interact with her but she just keeps trying to chase after him, I saw on tiktok a few months ago that she posted a picture of her infront of his apparent building or something and dating or not, I think that's freakish behaviour, and I really think she should delete that if she hasn't already, atleast for his privacy if not her decency because that is making her look like a hella obsessed fangirl. Obviously, I didn't randomly start thinking and ranting about this, so I'll tell you that what made me do this if a reel that popped up in my instagram feed from a f1 gossip accont of them being spotted togeder at a new years party in Dubai. That clip is gross to me, because you can see him ducking away from the camera and it was even mentioned in the caption, and people in the comments were laughing because "oh, he's so ashamed to be with her" or that they were holding hands (to me, that just looks like he was holding her shoulder, some people also said that she grabbed his hand when he pulled it back but I didn't see that)
Honestly, whatever, if they're dting, good for them, if not, also good for them, people alredy ruined Landos last realtionship so I completely understand him wanting to keep this secret if they are, even tho she keep hinting at it, but maybe she's just an obsessed friend, who the fuck knows?
I also won't post that clip, because I can't download it and sharing the link could show my account, so I just won't do that, which is probably for the better, we should just respect his privacy, because none of us would like being recorded 24/7 and posted online, even if that is part of his job, just let him live his life off the track.
This might be full of typos, I literally can not be bothered to read through this and check so whatever, feel free to rant about this in my comments, reblogs, or my ask box, just don't go in my dms, I'm here to speak my mind, not argue.

Your mind wandered as you zipped your suitcase shut. John announced you were taking a trip for your anniversary and refused to tell you where. "You'll find out when we get there love," he said with a laugh after you pestered him to tell you. You walked downstairs and set your suitcase by the front door.
Through no fault of his own John wasn't always around for your anniversary. He always tried his best to to have his leave coincide but it didn't always happen. Usually you just had a nice dinner at home or John would surprise you with flowers; both of which you enjoyed. Needless to say you were shocked but excited when John told you he had a few weeks leave and had something big planned.
"Hey hon, remember to pack your toothbrush this time," you said, doublechecking to make sure you had everything. "You forget it every time," you mused. "I'm not going to forget my toothbrush dove. And I don't forget it every time," Price argued; he checked his suitcase and realized he forgot. He went to the bathroom and grabbed his toothbrush to pack it away without telling you.
"Are you ready love?" Price asked. "I want to get going," You noticed your boyfriend seemed to be acting weird. He was very fidgety and it wasn't like him at all.
"You okay?" You asked. "You seem anxious to get going,"
"Yeah I'm fine love I just want to get there before dark," Price replied, taking the luggage outside. He loaded the suitcases into the back of the car and slipped his hand in his pocket. His fingers brushed against the velvet box resting in his pocket. "Well if we want to get there before dark we should get going," you called out and shut the door behind you, locking up the house.
Tumblr media
You noticed the scenery started to change from hilly landscapes to dense woods. You started to get excited about what was at the end of your little road trip. The car turned on to a cobblestone stone driveway that led to a beautiful cabin overlooking a private lake surrounded by trees. "Oh John this is beautiful!" You said, looking out the window. "How did you know about this?" You asked. "An old mate of mine offered to let us use it for the week," he smiled watching you try and take it all in.
"This whole place is for us?" You asked, wondering if you could possibly see everything in just a few days. Price squeezed your thigh. "Just us," he said, parking the car. "Here love," Price stated. He fished in his pocket pulling out a set of keys. "Here's the keys to the cabin. Why don't you go take a look around, while I unload the car" he suggested.
You smiled and took the keys from him walking up to the front steps. You unlocked the front door and stepped inside. The living room was decorated in a way you would expect a cabin to be decorated. A large sofa facing a tv mounted on the wall, a large red rug in the middle of the floor, an end table with a lamp beside the couch, a tv stand, large fireplace, and a chandelier made from antlers adorned the living room. There was also a full kitchen to your right when you walked in.
You made your way to the stairs and found the master bedroom. A king size bed was the centerpiece of the room with a wool blanket draped over the end. The curtains were drawn and a soft light emanated from a lamp sitting on a bedside table.
Your footsteps were hushed by the soft carpet as you walked to the bathroom. The master bathroom was beautifully decorated in finished wood and white accents with a big claw foot tub; definitely big enough for both you and John. A window that faced the lake and woods let in a nice breeze and you couldn't help smiling, the fact it was yours for a few days finally setting in.
You came down the stairs just as John set down the last of your luggage. "So? What do you think?" Price asked, smiling as you wrapped your arms around him. "It's perfect John!” you smiled. "It's so beautiful," you planted a kiss on his lips.
Tumblr media
Over the next few days the ring Price carried around burned a hole in his pocket. He tried finding the right time to ask you but everytime he tried he got nervous. He was the Captain of the most elite special forces team in the world and he couldn't even ask you to marry him. He sat at the edge of the dock, his fishing pole in his hands. He looked at the water waiting for a fish to bite and thinking about how much he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. If only I could just ask her. With a frustrated sigh, he got up to stretch his legs still holding the fishing pole.
These few days seemed like a dream to you. Getting to spend this time with John was something you didn't always get to have. You noticed your boyfriend's behavior was somewhat off. He was anxious and fidgety when he's normally the calm and self-assured one in the relationship. You saw him sitting at the dock fishing and you smiled to yourself. His behavior may have changed but him fishing certainly hadn't.
You opened the front door and started walking down the cobblestone path the sweet air warming your skin. You saw little firefly's glowing in the garden flying around. "Have you caught anything yet?" You asked, siting down in a lawn chair with him standing holding his fishing pole. John glanced over and saw you wearing one of his army green t shirts and a pair of sleep shorts; he felt his heart skip a beat and his cock swell embarassingly hard despite the spirited romp in the sheets a mere few hours prior. For some strange reason, it made his thoughts drift back to the little box still tucked away in his pocket; he carried it with him everywhere since they got here. He still couldn’t believe he had trouble asking you a simple four-worded question. It was almost laughable that something so simple had the Captain racked with anxiety. The man who was feared just as much as he was respected in the field. What if you said no? What if you didn’t actually love him and this was the push you needed to leave him? He grimaced as his thoughts got more and more out of control.
“No I think I missed most of them,” he muttered and turned his attention back to the water. You furrowed your eyebrows; something was up with your boyfriend. Not much fazed the 6’2” Brit so to see him so lost in thought worried you. You got to your feet and wrapped your arms around your lover; your hands dipped underneath the shirt he was wearing and felt the dusting of wiry chest hair. You ran your fingers down the strong expanse of his chest and abdomen following the happy trail that disappears into his waistband. “What’s wrong hon?” You asked. “Nothing is wrong I’m fine love,” He grumbled. “You’ve been acting strange for the past few days and that isn’t like you,” You persisted. "I want to know what’s bothering you. You know you can tell me anything right?” You reassured him. John shifted his attention from the still water to you and tried to think of what to say.
“Do you…still love me?” He asked with uncertainty. “Would I have let you put me in those positions if I didn’t?” You teased, referencing the previous bedroom escapades. Seeing his face didn’t change, you realized he was serious. “Of course I do. Why would you think I don’t?” You asked. “Well…sometimes I can’t help but think you’ll wake up one day and come to your senses and leave me for someone who actually deserves you,” He sighed. It felt foreign to him to talk about his feelings but you made him feel safe enough that he could. You always brought out the best of him and it was one of the many reasons he wanted to marry you. “John Price, I am never going to leave you,” You told him, placing your hands on his muttonchops, framing his face. You hated it when he talked so badly about himself. “I love you so much and you deserve everything,” You said, gazing up at him. “Even if I am a grumpy old man?” He asked. “Yes even though you’re a grumpy old man,” you teased. “Hey! Easy now,” He said in mock annoyance. You placed your lips on his, capturing him in a heated kiss. You felt him kiss you back and the tension from his shoulders melted away. He groaned and pressed your bodies together, reaching down to grab a handful of your ass. He chuckled quietly when you whined as he pulled away. “In that case, there’s something I need to ask you,” He slipped his hand into his pocket while dropping down onto one knee. It’s now or never Price. He told himself. Your eyes went wide and filled with tears as you realized what was happening. “Y/N, will you marry me?” He asked, hoping, no silently begging, for you to say yes. “Yes! Yes I’ll marry you John Price,” you cried.
******
“FUCK!” You screamed. The headboard practically hit the wall with each harsh thrust from John. The room was filled with obscene yet erotic sound of panting and skin slapping against skin. “Fuck you’re taking me so well love,” John panted out, taking a glance down to where your cunt practically swallowed his cock. The sight drove him mad and he let out sounds he didn’t know he had in him. Those sounds he was making, the breathy groans and whimpers almost made you come then and there. “Fuck John!” You panted, feeling yourself get closer with every snap of John’s hips that hit perfectly inside you. John could feel you squeezing him like a vice and he knew you were close to coming. He grabbed the head board and pushed your legs to your chest to better plow into you and get as deep as he could into your pulsing cunt. “That’s it love,” He breathed out, his pace unrelenting. “Come for me love, come for me,”. John’s voice sounded strained as he focused on making you come before he did. You keened as you felt yourself go over the edge, coming on John’s cock. You squeezed him so tightly he swore he saw stars and came deep inside you, thick ropes of white staining the inside of your cunt. John rested his forehead against yours, strands of his hair sticking to the sweaty skin. You felt the sheer sheen of perspiration that had covered your own body begin to dry and cool off the longer the two of you stayed in each other’s embrace. "You okay love?” He asked, still out of breath as you both waited for your heart rates to slow. “More than okay,” you smiled lazily. Price gingerly pulled out his softened cock and walked to the bathroom, you admiring his bare ass as he walked away. John used a warm wash cloth to gently clean you up before grabbing a celebratory cigar and lighting it. You watched and admired his naked body as he poured himself a glass of scotch from the decanter sitting on the small table in the room before sliding back into bed with you.
You and John lay slightly tangled in the sheets with your head resting on his chest and his arm around you, relishing in that wonderful, hazy post sex daze. You couldn’t help but stare at the ring on your finger and smile; John was your fiancée and you could hardly believe it. “Careful now or I’ll think you love the ring more than me,” John’s deep baritone voice reverberating in his chest. “Well the ring is pretty great. And all I have is an old man,” you teased, looking up at him knowing he just proved himself to be anything but an old man. Your remark earned you a playful pinch on your ass. You squealed and laughed, swatting his chest playfully.
“Don’t worry Mr. Price I only have eyes for you my love,” You said, planting a kiss on his lips. "I love you,"
“I love you too soon-to-be Mrs. Price,”

Magical Wilted
Part 1: Calipto - Eucalyptus
Chapter 3: Blossom (First - Previous)
I woke up in the bus back home, my memories of how the day went fuzzier than those of my dream. It looked like it was right about time, too, as the bus reached my stop a few seconds afterwards. I hopped out of it, went to go get some groceries, and headed to my flat. There, I grabbed my laptop from my bag and checked my lesson: I needed to know if I had fallen asleep during the first class or if I had noted it down; I distinctly remembered the former, but had memories of the latter as well. The lesson was perfectly typed. No typos. no abbreviations or skipped sentences. It looked like it came straight from a pdf I’d have grabbed online, if only that it was in comic sans, thing I’d started doing after a friend changed all of my previous lessons to this specific font as a prank; I couldn't bother changing them all back, so I picked this habit instead.
On my bed next to me was the- hey, why was the plushie in my bed? I was sure I had left it on the couch! I picked it up, gave it a big hug (isn't it what plushies are for?) and put it back where it was. Then, I started inspecting my place for any missing or misplaced items, since it couldn't have moved all by itself, right? But literally nothing else had change- Oh actually someone had put my empty bowl of hot chocolate in the sink. Huh.
I made my way back to my room, only to come face to face with a FRIGGIN FLOATING BLUE FROG WITH WINGS AND CAT WHISKERS! I let out a not-at-all-girly-trust-me scream, which scared the frog into screaming too, which in turn made my scream go from not-at-all-girly-trust-me to ok-I’ll-admit-it-was-very-girly, then I just fled behind my couch. In my defense, it surprised me and I had no clue what to do, so don't judge me, okay?
I grabbed a broom and headed to where the frog was, then I remembered I loved frogs and they were cute so I put the broom down, and then I remembered it looked just like the plushie and I had no idea if it really was a frog and I picked it back up in case it attacked me. when I found it, it was just above my bed, looking through the window, making a sound that sounded like mumbling. I slowly approached it, and heard what it said more clearly, to realise that it was repeating “oh no no no I still haven't found Eucalyptus and now I’m stuck in here with some crazy person and Flora is going to kill me if I don't find them what do I do?” again and again. I put my broom down, then grabbed its attention by telling it that it was rude to call people crazy being their back.
The creature slowly rotated toward me, then flopped to the ground. There, it turned back into the plushie I had won the day before. I picked it up, before making my way out, and headed to the park. My plan was to wait until it had come back to life, and in the occasion that it didn't, call my landlord to warn him of a gas leak, because, frankly, that was the most likely reason for me to have seen this all happen.
Unfortunately for reason and logic, though, the plushie did come back to life. And tried to scamper off. Which it couldn’t do, as it fell from the bench onto the floor, belly up and back on the ground. I put it back on the bench, before asking it what the hell was going on, to which it answered by asking me not to eat it. Which I wasn't gonna do anyway, in case you're wondering.
I told it just that, and repeated my question. It replied: “I need to find someone, I can feel they're close, but I only know that their name is Eucalyptus, so please don't kill me!” I looked around the park, then looked around again, just to make sure, then reported my findings to the creature: we were alone, so its feeling was probably wrong, as my name was Calipto, full name Luca-Calipto Myrta, and not Eucalyptus, so unless someone was in hiding here, there was no one that fit the mark.
Well, at least I tried saying that, but the ground opened less than a metre away from me, so that cut my monologue short. Out of the rift crawled something unseeable. In the stead of what was in front of me, I could only see a shifting jet black shape with what seemed like tendrils, as if the very concept of light had been consumed by what stood there, if its mere presence was causing reality itself to shift and break apart. My blood froze as I realised what was happening: this was a monster. I was caught in a monster outbreak.
I quickly grabbed the sentient plushie, then ran as fast as I could, tried to find a place to hide and wait for a Magical to come. But the monster started going after me. And it was faster than me. It lunged a tendril at me, which I was able to narrowly dodge, but doing so came with a price: I had lost my balance, and promptly fell to the floor.
The frog plushie came to life again, just to mutter: “oh snips, how did I not notice? It's you, eucalyptus.” Then a light flashed, blinding as the sun on a hot summer day.

Tumblr media
y/n
y/n laid in her bed, right next to her was a tub of ice cream. well, half a tub of ice cream. mint chocolate was always the answer.
almost always the answer. just not today. not right now. she'd kissed peter. kind of. ish. did that even count as a kiss? a peck, maybe? it had been two days since she had seen peter, given it was monday. also because she was dead terrified of seeing him.
she had come to a conclusion.
she liked peter benjamin parker. loved?
no, no, no.
yes.
yes.
yes.
she was in so deep. so fast.
y/n rolled over on her stomach, letting out a groan of frustration, seeing that the ice cream was half melted.
and maybe, just maybe, because she didn't want to like him. peter was awesome, don't get her wrong. but she didn't want to mess up their relationship. y/n wasn't even sure if she was ready for something serious.
to be honest, she'd never been in something serious before. she had flings all the time. hookups were just hookups. well, she had stopped with that recently to focus on her job.
but... there was this one guy. her dad's best friend's son. y/n's father hadn't ever told her to do much. he was strict about grades, but that was all. he had let her do whatever she wanted, as long as she was on the right path.
whatever hobbies. whatever college. whatever job.
only one thing. only one thing he was rather adamant about. her father's dying wish. the first time he had told y/n, she had instantly refused, telling him she would do anything else. just not this. once he had gotten severely sick, it was clear that this was all he wanted. so, she finally agreed.
agreed to having an arranged marriage with spencer barcon.
they were childhood friends, and she doubted she would be able to see him as anything else. besides, peter probably didn't want to date someone who already had a finalized marriage.
more than anything, she didn't want to marry spencer. but how could she refuse her father?
she already knew that he liked her like that. in fact, she was almost positive that he had asked his father to ask her father to get married. and her father agreed. because spencer was rich. and he could "support" her.
y/n frowned. she could very much so support herself. she didn't need financial help. she knew what would happen if she got married to him. y/n would become a some housewife, stuck at home.
y/n would have to quit her job and she didn't want that. that wasn't freedom.
she was stuck. completely, utterly, stuck. and there wasn't a way out of this mess that her heart tangled itself in.
her phone buzzed and she flinched before picking it up to read the text.
please don't be peter. please don't be peter. please don't be peter.
it wasn't peter!

y/n sighed and turn off her phone with a click. she knew she was in a tough situation, but what was there to do? it's not like she had much of a choice. maybe her friends could give her some insight. plus, it was a nice excuse to meet up, she'd been so busy lately, and hadn't gotten much free time. well, she had some, but she was busy moping around during that time.
and spending it with peter.
she dragged herself out of bed, throwing the lid on the tub of ice cream. she trudged out to the kitchen and tossed the tub in the freezer. with a huff, she entered the bathroom, putting her hair up into a messy bun.
she washed her face and brushed her teeth, before venturing into the closet to find something to wear. of course she wanted to look nice, but she didn't really feel like putting that effort in. she settled on a sage green pullover and black jeans, adding a couple bracelets.
y/n did some winged eyeliner, mascara, and concealer before giving up on trying anything else. it didn't really matter, it was just her friends.
she swung a purse over her shoulder and slipped on some black doc martins. stretching once again, she left the apartment, locking the door behind her.
the walk there was only 10 minutes, so there wasn't any point in getting a cab. plus, with all the traffic, the car ride would probably extend the time.
stupid feelings. stupid spencer. stupid peter.
i've fallen in love with someone i can't.
but what if...? what if claire was right? maybe she could date peter, and then break up with him before she got married. that didn't seem like such a bad idea. but then she would have to come up with a good excuse, and she didn't think that there were any good excuses for something like that.
the entire walk she had been distracted. distracted with thoughts about peter. but she somehow managed to only get almost run over twice, and to her that was an accomplishment.
when she finally got there, her friends were sitting inside at a table, chatting their butts off. well, all of them except claire. she was awkwardly playing with her straw wrapper, as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. she mumbled a greeting and plopped down on an empty chair.
"i'm glad you took your time," cindy frowned, but there was a happy gleam in her eyes.
y/n shrugged.
priya smiled, "hey, y/n/n, we got your drink for you!"
"thanks."
"okay, now spill." pri demanded, and cindy nodded along.
"all the deets,” she added, making y/n roll her eyes lovingly.
claire paid literally no mind, scrolling through her phone.
"wait, wait! do you have a picture?" the indian squealed.
"i think so. i'm pretty we took a couple selfies," she remembered, pulling out her phone. the two girls squealed, and y/n rolled her eyes.
"hey, i gotta go. i'll see you."
"already?"
"but claire, you only just got here."
y/n didn't even bother, she wasn't even sure why the girls were surprised, she did this half the time anyways. she found a good picture and showed it to priya and cindy. claire glanced at it, pulling her jacket on.
claire had a certain look on her face.
"what's wrong?" she asked.
"i know him. he went to midtown with me. peter, right? yeah, peter parker. i think we had math together. i can't believe you like him."
"why?"
"...he's a freaking nerd. your standards have to be higher than that."
"maybe he's just my type. i dunno."
"your type? and what's that supposed to be? losers? honestly, just marry spencer. he's so much better. maybe he can keep your life together. that's probably why your dad set you up for him anyways."
y/n pushed her chair back, and got up quickly, slamming her drink down. "i'm sorry, keep my life together? i don't need someone to make those decisions for me. especially not you."
"guys? people are watching!" priya exclaimed, trying to get their attention.
"just some advice. you literally have a fucking millionaire in front of you."
"um- maybe-" cindy started, trying to calm them both down.
"are you serious? you want me to take advice from you? hilarious. get your love life together first. richard's going behind your back fucking a different girl everyday, and you're too desperate to even realize it, obviously you get the delusional genes from your mom."
all three girls shut up, surprised at what she had said. she'd always dealt with claire's backlash against her, even when she went too far, making remarks on her body, insecurities, and whatnot. no one was quite sure how to take it.
one of the waitresses walked up to them, "i'm gonna have to ask you to leave, you guys are being very loud."
"fucking fine by me," claire scoffed, visibly trying to push tears back.
"claire, i..." y/n started. wait, why was she apologizing? she had only stood up for herself. kind of. maybe she could have been less harsh. she shouldn't have brought up her mom. she watched as claire stormed out, but for the first time, no one went after her. the young l/n girl simply stood there in shock.
all through middle school they had been a group. and visibly, claire was always the leader. she might not have had her way with her looks, but her bold personality and confidence lead her to be popular. cindy was the quiet one, and priya had always been bubbly and bright. she was just... y/n. there wasn't anything special about her.
all three of them, bound so tight as best friends, maybe even as sisters because they could act the part. until the last two years of high school. claire had met this new boy named richard, and she was head over heels for him. she couldn't see that he was bad news. not in the way y/n was.
he only kept claire around for his disgusting fantasies, and the worst part? she was in denial. everyday her friends would tell her to stay away from him, and everyday she would yell at them, saying the two were in love. at one point, they just gave up. richard had changed her, in ways she couldn't have ever expected.
priya shook she lightly, snapping her back into reality. she hadn't even noticed the hot tears that were streaming down her face. she swiped them away, looking up to see the waitress glaring at the expectantly. she murmured a sorry and grabbed her empty cup, tossing it out, and walking away from the cafe.
"y/n! wait up!" priya yelled, running after her. it took cindy a moment, but she followed after.
y/n stopped by a lake, not quite yet frozen over. she sat down there, pulling her knees to her chest.
priya dropped down next to her, bringing her in for a hug. cindy did the same.
"she's never gonna talk to me ever again."
"hey, hey, you don't know that. maybe she needs time to cool down. but i'm proud of you, standing up for yourself like that. i know there were better ways to handle that, but i know she hasn't been treating you how you deserve," priya smiled.
"now that she's gone, we have some peace. wanna tell her about what i saw in the cafe?" cindy wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
she laughed, rolling her eyes playfully. cindy's phone rang, and she checked her smartwatch to see who it was. y/n got a glimpse of it and frowned a bit.
"you should take that."
"no, i'm here right now for you. you're more important."
"it's okay, moon. take it."
"you sure?"
"yes!"
cindy got up and took it. the two girls listened in on the one side that could hear.
"yes? ...what? ...i'm in the middle of-... oh god, of course he did. fine, fine! i'll be there- no, yes... no? we can talk about friday night later, mj. no... i'm not busy. d-da-... yes! of course! can't wait!" she ended the call and and back over.
"oh my god! date? with michelle? you go, girl!" y/n cheered hyping her friend.
cindy blushed and nodded. "yeah, but we deal with my love life after yours. okay? josh set the coffee machine on fire somehow, and now i have to go over and deal with it. but, but! i won't go unless you let me. you guys are much more important to me."
"go, cind, it's fine. really."
"you sure?"
"yes! go, love, jeez!”
she smiled and ran off, desperately waving down a cab and hopping in it. she smiled at her and faced priya. she had to admit, out of them all, she was the closest to priya, and she was glad that pri was there for her.
"tell me about peter. what's he like?" she inquired, in a sweet in loving voice. it felt warm, and it reminded her of her dad.
"he's really sweet. and funny. he works with me at the daily bugle. he's the head photographer which is awesome. i like working with him, it makes my job more exciting and fun. i never get bored with him. he's always trying to make me laugh or smile. remember the clock tower incident? about two or three years ago, i think. i'm not sure."
"yeah, i do. poor girl."
"that was peter's girlfriend." she spoke quietly, as those words held a gravity of sadness.
"really? i feel so bad. that must have been a lot."
"i know. it's hard, things like that. his uncle ben died, too. but i'm not sure how, i didn't want to pry or anything, you know?"
"you guys are really similar. i wish you didn't have to marry spencer."
"me too."
"cause i would have totally taken him," y/n turned to priya, giving her a look.
"what about luke? have you told him yet?"
"no! are you crazy?"
"you should tell him, before it's too late."
"but what if i mess everything up? i'd rather stay friends then take that risk."
"some things are worth risking, you know that. this is one of them, he deserves to know, and you deserve to tell him. and if he says no, he's a pretentious douchebag."
"i dunno. maybe, enough about me. are you sure you're marrying spencer?
she sighed, "it's a guilt thing. i kinda have to."
"it's completely your choice. i know it's a hard decision."
"yeah, it's okay though. i have time."
"okay."
she had time.

Well-Earned Back Massage Headcanons
In honour of finishing my move back to Budapest. 3 trips with 2 big suitcases each, approximately 35 hours on train, and throwing out a lot of stuff where I filled all the bins in my Prague building's rubbish area twice. This is tmi about my life but this was really. Fucking. Hard. And no, I don't have a car, and no, I didn't want to spend the money asking friends to send me boxes of my things through the post as I did when I moved to Prague during COVID because that shit costs a lot of money. Much more than those train trips.
So then. How would some of my favourite characters help or not to relax and get some body massage after all this?
Kokushibou
+ He's an aftercare king so he would make a comfortable, warm bath for you to soak in
+ Afterwards, he'd oil up his hands and give you a full massage
+ He'd be checking on you for many days after until he's 1000% (that's one thousand, not a typo for one hundred) sure that you're feeling better after your workout
+ Bonus points because he would not let you move all that shit by yourself. He'd help you and for free. All right, not for free because he will want your company in return, but it's basically for free
+ Even if you don't exert yourself because he helps you move, he still gives you the princess treatment
Muzan
+ Yeah, good luck getting him to help you move. That's servants' work, not for the Demon King
+ He would message you regularly to make sure that you're all right
+ But be sure, that when you are bored sitting on the train, that mf will definitely be busy in his god damn lab and will not entertain you
+ He will give you a massage though
+ It would be one of those rough massages where it feels like he's breaking your back but you end up feeling really fucking good after
+ Bonus points if you're a demon and he actually can break your back and give you some extra blood to speed up the regeneration
Gyutaro
+ Will call you pathetic for asking for a massage from him
+ And he will laugh at you when he sees you coming back with the luggage
+ But he will at least help you get from the train station to your accommodation
+ All while laughing at how shameful you look, of course
+ Look, he really doesn't know how to massage. He'll ask Daki how to do it, and the two of them will end up arguing because Daki will say that he doesn't do it right, blah blah
+ You end up getting a massage from Daki
+ But Gyutaro will cuddle with you after and promise that he'll find the time to help you next time you have to move with luggage
Douma
+ He hires you a limo to travel, enough said
+ He will complain about his ass hurting on the limo ride (which is shorter than the train ride by a couple hours)
+ He will ask you for a massage because his ass hurts from sitting so much
+ But you won't complain, because it gives you an excuse to manhandle him
+ You two have a hot night ahead of you
+ Bonus points if your new neighbours complain about the noise Douma's moans are making
Tahomaru
+ Another example of he will hire a ride for you
+ But maybe he can't, and if he can't, he will take the time himself to go with you so it's easier
+ If he still can't do that, then he will be messaging you all the time to make sure you're all right
+ He will entertain you on the train
+ If he hires the ride to help you move, he won't stop talking and will give you a headache
+ He'll get you a lot of food and a warm bath to ease your muscles
+ He doesn't know how to massage, so he cuddles with you while Hyogo gives you a massage
Daigo Kagemitsu
+ He hires a van and comes in a limo
+ You don't even have furniture but he still orders the van
+ He tells you that you have too much stuff but he still stops somewhere on the limo ride to buy you more shit
+ He drinks sake in the limo and passes out
+ You end up chatting with the limo driver for something to do
+ He brings you to a spa and hires a professional masseuse for the both of you
+ He probably almost pulls his back out trying to give you a kinky massage in bed
+ You don't exert yourself at all and you get a spa weekend
+ Bonus points if he lets Tahomaru tag along and you get to go with them both
This was a bad idea, because now I will be fantasizing about going to the baths with this man
Saburota
+ He'd help you move but would complain
+ He'd be a messy eater on the train and would get you stared at
+ He's cheap af and won't let you guys take an uber with the luggage so you're walking or it's public transport
+ He will definitely try to ride without a ticket on the public transport
+ He complains that you're weak when you ask for a massage
+ But he'll give it to you anyway
+ He's really good and should be a professional
+ He'll tell you about how he gave his mother massages which is sweet but definitely ruins the mood
Hyakkimaru
+ He also helps you move
+ Very quiet, doesn't complain
+ He's surprised when you say you feel sore
+ He doesn't know how to massage and he probably doesn't even know what a massage is
+ He rubs his forehead against yours and says that you need warm soup
+ He later cuddles with you and asks you several times if you're ok
+ Bonus points if Dororo tries to give you a massage and accidentally makes it all worse 🤡

Note
This isnt directly a request but if you do end up getting inspiration out of this then im glad! (wouldn't complain lol) Imagine how Shiggy would act if some villain with a big loving heart came in and just- somewhat adopted him. Shiggy gets injured? They're there soothing and scolding him. Ranting about video games or heroes? They're patiently listening. Makes my heart so happy negl.
Omg anon I actually really like this idea lol. I have no idea how I would write it as a fic or even organized headcanons BUT I will most certainly give you my disorganized thoughts on this because I have no self control.
APOLOGIES because I'm writing this at 1:33pm and I am very tired (but will likely not sleep until 3am.), THEREFORE, I probably have many typos because I didn't proof read an I am so sorry lol. Anyways, hope you enjoy my thoughts on this, feel free to add anything, I don't mind going back and forth on this topic (this goes for anyone btw! Not just anon. I love hearing everyone's thoughts on concepts I write for)
I feel like in this scenario of reader being a villain, reader's motives are either out of spite towards their hatred for capitalism or they're just kind of... goofy...and unhinged... in a bad way .. thatcopsandheroesdontlike YOU GET THE PICTURE OK? (Use your imagination bestie)
But regaRDLESS, you have a huge soft spot (and maybe some hard spots;) ) for shigaraki.
Which actually just ends up with you having a lot of compassion and care towards him. You can tell he's been through a lot. anyone can. and seeing him having clear struggles in his physical life and internal conflicts, you can't help but want to, well, help him.
I won't go into a huge back story because I simply... am tired LOL. But somewhere along the way shigaraki let you grace him with your presence.
So now you're here with your adopted introverted son and guiding him through his life full of terrorism, tyrants, and genocide 🫶 (you don't quite understand how he's both introverted and a menace to society at the same time. Shigaraki is what happens when an introvert just gets really fed up with capitalism ig)
BUT I DIGRESS
Shigaraki actually really appreciates you're presence. Will he admit it? FUCK NO LMAO. he'd rather twist his eyelids off and eat them before telling your annoying ass he appreciates you. But he does. Just trust me, he does.
Besides spinner, no one really listens to his rants about video games, players, the fall of society. Dabi refers to him as "a cartoon villain on heroin who monologues " shigaraki didn't like that very much
But you listen. You really listen. You ask him questions, you validate his feelings and concerns, you make sure he knows that he's making progress, ect. You don't just hear what he says, you listen. You engage. Which is something he's needed for a very long time.
Especially when he gets injured, is when he gets the most attention from you. Honestly sometimes he wants to hurt himself just hear you cry over him LOL. He's low-key obsessed with you but don't ever bring it up if you notice.
Like the one time he came back to the bar after the U.S.J incident, all bloody with bullets wounds, you were... not handling it well to say the least. Lol. Shigaraki was fine, just chilling on the floor cursing the hero bastards, as he calls them. But you were "dramatic" as shigaraki says. "I'll be fine I'll just stick some bread in bullet holes and cover them with plastic wrap"
???
????!!!!
SHIGARAKI YOU SUPID FUCK
You, much to his dismay, disinfected the wound with alcohol and with kurogiris help stitched up the wounds and wrapped them with a compression bandage and made him rest while checking in every so often to change out his gauze and bandages and cleaning the wounds again.
You also checked in quite a bit to make sure he was hydrated (with water because all the idiot drinks are energy drinks and alcohol)
Going back to listening to his interests, you both share some of the same interests so it helps a lot with your bond with the leader of the league. Even political views.
He listens to you too, even if he doesn't understand some of your interests or is very knowledgeable on certain topics you enjoy, he loves listening to you. He actually thinks your way of speaking and the way your voice sounds is very, very cute. But again, he'll never tell you. He's too embarrassed to and doesn't want to ruin,,,, whatever reputation he thinks he has.

43 for Imtura, Rex, + Tyril and 22 for Cas, Gabe, + Ripley
from [this] ask game
Thank uuu (and also for giving me the list in the 1st place, I'm so bad at finding these lol!!)
I'm putting it under the cut bc it got longggg again IM SORRY AHHHH it might b full of typos cause im too lazy to read it over lol
Imtura Rex and Tyril:
43. Have cultural dynamics played a part in how the polycule operates?
For sure!!
From what I understand + with their relationships being more fluid, I feel like orcs would 'claim' a partner wayy less n approach it more like friendships where like normal ppl are also not gonna give a shit if you have other friends. So I feel like Imtura never really cared about what Rex was up to with Tyril. And Rex probably did bring it up like 'is that ok with you?' and instead ended up being encouraged to go for it, because I feel like Imtura thinks it's hilarious when Rex makes kinda flirty jokes at him and he gets all flustered. And I think she WANTS to see how their serious elf boy acts when he's in love lol. And as how things work in her culture, she doesn't feel like she has the right to tell Rex she can only love her, nor does she want to anyway. But like due to Rex checking in she realises how silly that would even be. Rex is also clear with her that the same goes for her. And I imagine Imtura does have a bunch of lovers besides Rex, tho I do think with Rex it's a bit more solid especially after the convo they had in book 3 chapter 1. Like wow I did not expect to be like this with anyone ever.
And the elves are already polyam anyway though they still have those rules like, one kilvalir (kilvalirs? Idk), multiple dinvalir, so there wasn't an issue there either, at first. Like I think Tyril viewed Rex and Imtura as dinvalir of each other, that's Fine. But eventually he starts feeling like what him and Rex have is more than just dinvalir and obviously not just kilvalir either, so he comes up with uluvalir and views that as this special thing between them. Like especially due to how his culture sees all tht, u know, like it's controversial + highly unlikely and that makes it Huge to him I guess. And to Rex it's huge too but more from understanding it from his perspective, because to her that stuff is inherently more intertwined anyway. So like I feel like he would be a bit hurt initially, when at some point Rex does say something along the lines of like 'I feel similar for Imtura as for you, I wouldn't call her uluvalir because that's Our Thing but like that emotional connection is there y'know.' Like I feel like it's not something they'll have fights or a Hard time about, but rather something that makes Tyril realise some Stuff about that whole system. And I think it'd spark a bunch of convo's about how they love and what all that means to them. But like I still do think that being raised in that culture and with those ideas makes it a lot easier to 'share' partners tho. And I think he can't even imagine Rex without Imtura, he thinks Imtura is really good for Rex, he respects Imtura and Rex also gets to explore stuff with her that she can't with him.
Also Rex was definitely raised with the human idea that like, you're supposed to be with one person at a time and you're supposed to be 'loyal' to that person (so don't do anything like kissing, holding hands etc. with anyone else if ur in a relationship) and anything that breaks that loyalty is cheating. Like that's how his parents viewed it. But I think that among the youth in the village it didn't Work like that for everyone and Rex did have one experience where 3 friends (who definitely had something going on together too) were all into him and Rex was like 👉👈 'I think ur all really cool and pretty..' and ended up just being with all of them for a few months until they got bored of him and stuck together again LMAO. But from there on he was permanently CORRUPTED (/joke), like it feels silly to stick to 1 person?? I think when he learns about how orcs work in that regard he also rly vibes with that.
Ripley, Cas and Gabe:
22. Who has the strongest communication skills in the group? Who has the weakest?
Gabriela definitely is the strongest communicator and I think at times her back must hurt from carrying tht shit lmao like I think she's good at reading Ripley and Cas and figuring out that something is up and gets them to TALK. And she's also pretty in tune with her own feelings and recognizing what she's feeling and why and what would help. If she wants to be held she'll just ask for it.
Both Cas and Ripley are poor on that front in their own way. Like I always imagine Ripley just makes a messss in book 1 and she's lucky that there's sm shit going on that Cas and Gabe would rather postpone any serious convo's about Whatever Is Going On Between Us and making her choose between them, because Ripley gets really distressed whenever it comes up. And it just doesn't feel as important compared to all the stuff going on and just keeping her alive. And they both want to protect her and care about her and they have an easier time doing that as long as things stay the way they are at that point. I think Gabe makes peace with it faster than Cas and is pretty open about that. But like Cas just feels embarassed for having Feelings and admitting when his feelings get hurt so he's not as open with Ripley about that, aside from getting mad whenever it gets too much or taking it out on Gabriela.
And another instance is when she's bottling her worries about being intimate with Cas up because she just has certain ideas of how 'heterosexual' couples work or what men want from women. And Cas eventually just has to have a whole intervention like ok what's up. And ends up having to be like ok you're being rly stupid rn and also you assume im BORING and im kinda offended. (Lighthearted)
I think she gets better at it, I imagine, like Ripley is a very honest person and doesn't have a problem telling them when they do stuff that annoys her or something lol. Like I think as she gets closer to them + everything feels secure it just feels less like bringing shit up might make the whole thing fall apart. I think sonetimes she has trouble identifying her own feelings about stuff and has to be prodded a bit. Like when she didn't realise that she just needed some space but Gabe picked up on it bc she'd lock herself in the bathroom for hours to get away from them lmao. And instead Gabriela has to be like 'could it be that you need some space' and Ripley's like 'hmmm yeah honestly, now tgat you say it.... I really like you guys though it's not anything you guys do wrong or anything.'
Meanwhile Cas tends to reallyyy bottle shit up because he thinks it's stupid when his feelings get hurt or he needs affection and stuff. And thinks it's stupid that even happens in the first place, doesn't want to aknowledge it, really. I think Cas has a lot more issues/worries regarding being abandoned and stuff and I think in the beginning Ripley is really nottt a match for him in that regard because she really triggers those feelings. I think Cas (during the book 1 events) worries and honestly just assumes that eventually she will abandon him and choose Gabriela over him. He'd never tell her that tho like imagine letting her know he'd CARE if that happened?? No way, that's stupid. Like it just seems humuliating to him to let someone know they could hurt hin like that. And when it haopens he just wants it to seem like he's unbothered. I think he fr sometimes gets headaches from trying not to cry about it lmao. I imagine Cas is the kinda person who 'enjoys' getting physically hurt because it'll get him pity and attention and care without having to ask for it. I think eve once they all agree on being polyam, and he is at peace with the idea of Ripley being with both abd truly believes she loves them both, he still deals with jealousy. Especially because at times it does seem like Ripley favours Gabe a bit (especially when it's m!cas and f!gabe because Ripley IS physically more attracted to her and it's very clear). But once again bottles it up until he just starts acting pissy and Gabriela confronts him, he gets defensive and they all start arguing until he just blurts out something that outright tells them he's jealous/feels like Ripley favours Gabriela. And Ripley and Gabe are like 'oh 💡!' Idk I think in the beginning of when things get Official there's a lot of problems like that, like I can't even keep going rn HDHDHD but it is something that will improve because eventually he'll just have an easier time being vulnerable with them + they fing their rythm + I think both Gabe and Ripley start picking up on nonverbal ques that he wants to be held rn and stuff lmao 💀. Like I know he initiates stuff on his own a lot but sometimes he wants it the other way around without asking and they can tell exactly when.

fic writing asks : 17 and 27, 28?
hope you’re doing well!! I’m just about to finally catch up with the latest chapter of moving on in a maelstrom (I haven’t checked my ao3 inbox for updates in a hot minute!!), thank you as ever for writing!
WASABI THANK YOU FOR SENDING im hanging in there i hope youre doing good too <3 and i hope you enjoy the latest chapter grelhbqughoeiqg
:') i talk a lot gomen
17. talk about your writing and editing process
so i'm definitely not the kind of person who sits down and outlines their story and all the plot points or does a ton of planning (kind of a bad habit probably!!) and mostly my fics comes from some broad concepts or ideas, vibes, or any sort of vivid scene I imagine up while im daydreaming on the way to work, and then I just kind of run with it. Actually I think from all the fics I've actually tried to follow an outline for in the past, only one has gotten past a handful of chapters (that would be Turning Point, which is shockingly complete!)
And like the scenes or vibes or ideas aren't always related to major plot points or anything either, they're just character moments and either a) do not need backstory to explain the situation, so they get to be a oneshot, or b) are VERY PARTICULAR about the backstory of the Scene and then they end up a full-fledged novella/novel/epic.
So like for example, I started on Maelstrom fic for a very specific scene with a very specific character--and you might expect it to be related to the main villain! Except I didn't even have a design for him until the day I sat down to write chapter 5 (which came to me in a caffeine-fueled fever dream) and wasn't even sure what his NEXT ability would be until chapter 8. Yeah he's the main antagonist. But this entire fic. This entire damn fic. Is a stepping stone. To a scene where Yuri is going insane under house arrest and Barnaby goes to visit him. And it's the funniest fucking thing in my head. Like I want to be so clear this is just an elaborate slide puzzle to a one-paragraph gag and I have no idea if the set-up is even worth it. But then once I get started writing things kind of start to fall into place like dominoes because I spend a lot of time overthinking the world building and the canon orz
Anyways as for editing uhhhh well!!! You have probably noticed!! I have SO MANY TYPOS IN MY CHAPTERS!!! My cat hears me say so many swears after chapters are posted :( I tend to be like constantly reading and rereading and editing... the first half of a chapter. The further I go the more excited I get to post! And the less I end up reading. So uhhh yeah if anyone ever goes back to read any fic I've ever posted EVER and you're like huh I don't remember that or huh I thought it was different yeah. yeah it was. I edited it 3 months later when I reread part and realized I had 15 typos, non-sequitors, and the worst sentence composition known to man OTL
27. your favorite part of the writing process
getting experimental with it! :') i like fucking around with imagery and description and pacing to try and see what kind of vibes i can squeeze out of something. actually i forget how long ago it was but i think my buddy isleofair sent an ask once where I went on a rant about what makes a slow burn a slow burn and ever since then I've REALLY wanted to try and write a slow burn that diagetically takes place in like. one or two hours. i have no idea how it would work but i think it would be really fun to try.
otherwise i think my favorite thing is like world building but through the little background details, like trying to squish in regional dialects or brands or in-universe entertainment franchises. I was really fucking proud of myself for Barnaby's Gatorade ad reel and his promotional coffee in Maelstrom lmfaooo or like getting so fucky with Proton's slang in my pokemon fics. Still trying to figure out how to write an entire oneshot about no one understanding what he means when he says "freezycaff."
28. your least favorite part of the writing process
>:( what do you MEAN I have to have a coherent plot!!! What do you MEAN I should probably plan to avoid plotholes!!! What do you MEAN i have to write through writer's block or take breaks when I burn out creatively!!!!! NO STOPPING ONLY VIBES ONLY GOOFS AND GAFFS!!! ONLY FICS!!!
On a more serious note. My least favorite part really is since I don't do a lot of planning beforehand :( sometimes all I got be them vibes, and getting from point a to point b can be like pulling teeth if I'm not like. manic. A lot of times I feel like I have a big picture with a lot of missing little pieces, and sometrimes I just can't figure out a satisfying way to get over it. Then the perma-hiatus hammer comes out UmU RIP in pepperonis dead fics from 2018.
Thank u again for sending!! <3

December Check-In
I promise I didn't almost forget :P Even if I definitely forgot to do the weekly devlog last Sunday... To be fair, it had been a week...
Recap of last month’s progress
IF Events in the Next Month
Plan for the next month
Still long post ahead. If you want a mini version, head over to itch.io!
November Progress
Still play more IF and maybe review. ✅
Finish the edits of Harcourt Ch5 ✅❌
Fix one of the semi-completed games: ❌either the Egg parser or TRNT (and make it a proper parser)
Finish that darn SugarCube Guide: ❌there aren’t much left in the guide to cover, but there are a few things to fix.
Again, I knocked the first one out of the park. I reviewed all inkJam, EctoComp, and Bare-Bones Jam entries (which helped me get on the main page of the IFDB). It was nice to play shorter games again - it makes reviewing pretty quick... Now that the IFComp is also over, I kind of want to go back and check out the entries I didn't manage to play.
As for the rest... It's been a bit of a hell of a month, and it's not looking like it's ending any time soon. Still, when I had some free time I managed to:
Finish my portion of the edits of Harcourt (and MelS was almost done with it... before he ran into computer problems - dw the file is safe!)
Assess the damage with The Roads Not Taken and come up with a plan to fix all of it. I also started on this one, but there is truly a lot of damage.
Make a bite game in binksi, Tower of Sleep, for the Two-Button Jam
Make a One-Button prototype, Don't press the Button, to test some JavaScript/jQuery (half-failure)
Make a zine for the first time: An Ode to Pissaladière
Make a new code template: the Character Creator
Submitted a bunch of seeds to the SeedComp!
Does it look like I got distracted by a shiny new thing instead of finishing my projects? Yes. Do I care? Nope. It brought me some joy and amusement in some weird months... Banging your head against the desk because code is not working is... not, obviously.
What’s happening in December?
A bunch of jams are happening on itch, because end of year means maybe some free time, and also, you might as well do something for the sake of saying you've made something.
The ShuffleComp (@neointeractives) has started, though the entries won't be available before January. You can listen to the kickass full playlist in the meantime!
The Sprouting Round of the SeedComp! (@seedcomp-if) has just started. There are 99 new seeds available for use to make a game! Deadline is March 1st.
The Deck-Month has just started, to make a game with Decker.
The PunyJam #4 ends in about 2 weeks (if you have the time to learn Inform w/ the Puny extension...)
and of course: la Partim 500 numéro 8, for those who want to do the Neo Twiny again... but French!
I'm probably gonna pop-off a Partim. I did it last year and it was fun :P
The PLANtm for December
December is a busy month for me, which includes a lot of time offline, full days travelling, and lots of planning. So I will take any free time I have and do fun stuff if I can!
But if I have space for IF, I'd like to:
Play more games! Well... I already am, just not really IF. My Steam Library is crying for attention. I would like to knock down maybe a dozen more IFComp entries if I can. There were a lot of good games, a lot of loooong games.
Code Ch5 of Harcourt. That will be MelS dependent - well, MelS's computer dependent...
Finish fixing The Roads Not Taken. I have a plan, I have the notes... I just need to sit down and re-code (and re-test).
Finish the Guide for real! I know SugarCube 2.37 is coming soon, which will affect the state of some pages (and maybe require more pages). BUT I've been working on fixing old pages (typos - re-explanation - clearer examples). So, this is likely to be done sooner rather than later...
~
Taking the list of TO-DO from August…
To-Do not require much of new stuff:
translate Escape Goncharov! into French. ✅
fix the bugs in EDOC + overall the French version to match
fix the bugs of TRNT + find a way to add the missing pieces (ongoing - translation unlikely)
fix the formatting of DOL-OS + translate into English ✅
update LPM with the missing content + translate into English ✅
No change this month :/
The rest of the To-Do pile was:
Finish The Rye in the Dark City (and maybe translate?)
Finish P-Rix - Space Trucker (and try to translate)
Finish Exquisite Cadaver (translation unlikely, current gameplay too complex to port for French)
Add a chapter to CRWL + fix/reopen the blog
Re-working TTTT to its originally planned state (lol, not likety)
Re-working SPS Iron Hammer (samesies)
Coding TTATEH (MelS dependent - shooting for end of year)
Emptying my inboxes (they are not all answered tho)
Honestly, this pile probably won’t get done this year…. Maybe TTATEH has a shot...

Could you talk about your writing and editing process? Maybe tell three keywords that describe your writing?
Three keywords? Non-liniear, stream of consciousness and daydreaming are probably the ones I'd go with. More phrases than words, but I think it fits.
More under the cut
Usually I have a very basic idea or plot, maybe a few lines of dialogue or specific things in my mind before I start writing. A lot of scenes and situations are things I've just daydreamed or thought of while trying to sleep, or walking the dog ect.
I write down whatever I thought of that started the story first, even if it's for something towards the end of the story or chapter, it helps flesh out the tone of the writing and where I need to get to or go from there.
For example, 'wounded deer' started with just "Alastor gets healed by Lucifer, but puts up a fight about it" as the main premises, and then I came up with the funny misunderstanding of Lucifer asking Alastor to take off his shirt and Alastor having an Asexual panic over it.
I wrote that, and then a very basic version of Alastors reaction to Lucifer's blood both at the same time, and just kept pushing back the blood scene until it fit with the flow of the story. The scene is very different from that first draft since the situation had changed a lot by then. (I hadn't planned on them making a deal, or half of their arguing)
For editing, since its non-linear I do it all on one Google doc with large gaps between the scenes where I need to fill in the blanks. Once I'm happy with a chunk that works as a full chapter with no missing scenes, I cut and paste it into its own document. Then edit the chapter separately before carrying on with the main doc and splitting off chapters until the story is done.
One-shots just always stay in the one document, with large gaps until I fill them in and move scenes around with connections so it works as one coherent piece.
I don't have a beta reader, so I just reread chapters as I finish them to look for mistakes, then usually go back to writing something else and come back with fresh eyes to double check I didn't miss anything. Sometimes I add little bits in this stage to make things flow better, but usually this is just for typos before I post it.
That's basically my process, it's a bit all over the place, but it seems to work for me. Everything is on Google docs so I don't have to worry about losing progress from forgetting to save, and I can access them anywhere. I also do all my writing, editing and posting on my phone since that's the most comfortable for me. (Drawing is on a Samsung note tablet)
It does mean I have docs with over 1000 words of content written that isn't all connected up yet for various different stories. I work on multiple at a time, jumping between them to which ones I've got the best ideas or motivation for.
Hope that helps someone out. It's taken me about 20yrs to get a style of writing and editing that fits me, and it might not fit me in the future. Writing styles and methods change a lot as you grow as a writer, sometimes you just have to play around and ignore conventional rules until you find something that fits.

Sorry gamers I fell asleep and also appear to have a throat infection(?) BUT I am awake now so
The hashtag Commentary on the artists and styles✨ (under the cut ⬇️ )
⭒ Up first is decafcoffee00 - decaf's art is so next level, everything is so SHAPE and there's personality in every line istg. Surprisingly, this one didn't fight me as much as I expected! I don't think it's half bad, and I had an easier time w/ this one than any other lol, but fr if you're not following him uhhh you should <3
⭒ The next to the right, minksinty - phenom's art inspires me SO so much, the way they colour things is absolutely stunning and life just flows through it, even the doodles! I think this one is probably the one I did the worst on lol, idk! It just doesn't seem to have any of the right energy, but it'd be more than worth it to do a more thorough study bc uhhh absolutely gorgeous art fr
⭒ And the third in the top row, bonetrousledbones - the only one I've actually tried before! So I had a liiitttle more familiarity with it, but it's such a fun, super expressive style. Their art just seems to translate the characters feelings and personalities so strongly, it's like. A narrative art style. If I had more time and focus I'd have loved to do a full body shot like this, especially to get more into studying their Clothes Technique, of which they are a master in their craft !!
⭒ Now on to the bottom row✨ jnpie - this one is small bc I was so happy w/ the first sketch I didn't want to try making it bigger and having it get all fuzzy lmao, but! Jnpie's style is so cute and like. Idk what would be a good word for it, sincere? It really is an expression, and you can feel how much they put into their art just by making it, it's just so -gestures emphatically in a positive way-. This is also the only one that didn't have a direct ref to look at! So pls forgive any discrepancies 🙏
⭒ On to the right, savestar - her art always exudes such a softness to me? Almost like a somberness that I don't quite know how to describe but its sooo pretty and makes their stuff feel very nostalgic when you look at it. It probably comes in second for the ones I struggled w/ a bit and feel I couldn't quite capture, but you can make the judgement for yourself by checking out and following her :*)
⭒ And last but certainly not least, owl-bones - this one was very fun, I'm not sure how obvious it is but his art has definitely been an influence on whatever direction mines taken for how I draw these bone boys, as it should! Rayne's art is sooo cool and pretty and this is another style I'd love to try doing a full body shot w/, the way he poses and draws clothes is so fluid and appealing and !!!

Sorry if this reads a little off I'm a bit fog brained atm and did NOT check for typos well but I didn't want to put this off any more! Bc seriously while I was working on this I kept getting distracted just scrolling through everyone's art these ppl r sooo cool and good at art and just 🌟❕💗
I wanted to get to the second part too yesterday but I was flagging so hard man, so next week! And until then don't forget to rest and stretch and hydrate <3
