The Stand-in Job

Danny loved his job. It was an easy on call job he got rather on accident. But it paid well and gave him enough time to deal with ghost matters outside of scheduled work hours.

Though now he got stuck in a situation his Boss had not provided him with a script and or explanation how to behave for.

Danny was a simple Stand-in. Sort of like a Stuntman kind of job. His boss was paying him to simple take his place during public appearances, or meetings with no big decision he has to sit through just to listen. Or on the easiest of days, to just sit in his boss office so it appears that someone is there while his boss was doing who knows what. Danny doesn't question, that's why his boss liked him.

But again, no where in his contract was described how he was supposed to handle this situation. So now he was stuck having beat up a couple of wannabe kidnappers and some vigilantes talking to him all casually going on and on how 'Tim', his boss, wasn't supposed to do that to not risk his public image. Should he record this as evidence for his Boss? It sounded like these vigilantes were spilling some of his boss' secrets that shouldn't be known to the public.

Tim just needed someone to sit in his place to make it appear like he was there when he had cases to work through. Danny was the perfect hire for it and Tim liked very much that Danny doesn't ask questions, like he understood. Yet when Danny sent him a text questioning how he should behave as Stand-in in front of Gotham's vigilantes.... Tim wasn't sure if he should feel offended or highly amused about his siblings not realizing that the one kidnapped in public hadn't been Tim but his Stand-in Danny.

If I ever got to write Steph professionally I would 100% make her a cosplayer. Partially out of spite because that stupid, "I'm Stephanie Brown and unfortunately I have no idea how to sew" bs still really annoys me, but also because... for fuck's sake, she needs to have something.

DC's been pretty bad about giving their heroes proper civilian lives since Rebirth happened (although they've started to improve on it recently), but like, even during her Batgirl run it's super off-putting how Steph's only motivation is, "I want to be a superhero because I want to be a superhero" and she's never portrayed as having any other interests, hobbies, or passions. WFA and Batgirls don't even try to give her a life outside of superheroics and shallow shenanigans. It's really weird!

So I think Steph should cosplay. And sew her own clothes, or at least creatively modify her thrift shop finds. Give her an Etsy shop where she makes superhero plushies for extra spending money, or a collection of embarrassing old Sailor Mew Mew costumes she made in middle school. Or both. Imagine a plot that took place at an anime convention. Imagine Steph and Damian belatedly realizing that they're both at the same anime convention, and trying desperately to pretend that they didn't see each other or the questionable doujinshi they were buying. It'd be fun!

Like she always looks so nonchalant and I feel like she’s one of those people who SEEM like they never have any idea what’s going on but in reality they know literally everything about everything and she has impeccable memory so she retains every single bit of all of that information

Like if Inside Out was real her memory library center thing would be so neatly organized and like none of those memories would die 💀 that abyss full of dead memories would only be extremely mundane shit like what she had for dinner last week because she has a GRIP on any intel she gets on anything or anyone

She is a quiet scary person and I love her, but I would be terrified to get on her bad side 😭✋

ok so you've got cellbit, who has turned almost the entire server against him all in pursuit of some grand scheme that almost no one except himself knows about, is hours away from 'working with' cucurucho/the federation aka everyone's sworn enemy, and is in the midst of a custody battle?? and then theres foolish who could not give less of a shit about any of that and just wants to build a silly castle Tehe.

like cellbit is out doing god knows what with cucurucho, going thousands of blocks out, brooding, making deals, and basically self-sabotaging in a way, Meanwhile foolish is on the roof covered in soot and ash screaming at himself because he cant build a square roof??????

cellbit comes home and Oh here comes comfort builder foolish with the "welcome home honey what did you get up to today" and cell says in the most nonchalant way possible "yeah so im apart of the federation now and may have possibly severed all ties with my son and fellow parents.." "......... cool! anyway wanna build interior or something by the way i fucking hate squares" and somehow their insanity cancels out and neither of them question the other...

plus cellbit likes to feed into foolish's building madness whilst also giving him the craziest side eye ive ever seen its so fucking funny😭😭

Double plus i think qCellbit like to have a Presence around. especially one that views him (relatively) normally and doesn't hate his guts 🤔 foolish is like his impulse control but without the impulse. just his control. keep him grounded while everything else goes on

I want my parents to get a cat, for obvious reasons.

the problem is: my dad doesn't want a cat.

Why doesn't he want a cat? I'm glad you asked. It's because he still thinks his childhood cat was the untimative cat and only if i can procure a cat of equal cat-ness would he accept it.

Now here's the kicker. I asked what a 'proper cat' means in that case

and he tells me:

it should be rather independant (like his childhood cat)

it should have a solid, round face and snout (like his childhood cat)

it should be of the striped variety, ideally (like his childhood cat)

should have a bushy tail (you know the drill)

oh, if we're at it, it should have round ears, not pointy ones 'like a dog'

At which point anyone who knows remotely anything about cats might have given pause like me, because i had to look this man in the eyes and ask him "...did your cat have a noticable black stripe over the lower back?"

Which he couldn't really remember anymore but said it's quite possible.

so when I show him a picture of a EUROPEAN WILDCAT he goes "Oh, that looks just like him! Where did you find that?"

you don't know how much this interaction haunts me. i am haunted by the ghost of a possible-wildcat that somehow got trained into accompanying my dad's family to hikes on a leash and that set incredibly unattainable standards for cat-rearing in his mind.

and even if he misremembers and that cat only coincidentally LOOKED like a wildcat, that still makes finding something like it incredibly difficult.

but there's no pics of the cat in question so I guess I shall never know

Fuck it, I’m seeing a lot of talk about Echo being a picky eater recently and I think I want to add my two neurodivergent cents to it lol

Firstly, I think it’s important to note that Echo is autistic. I know this hasn’t been stated anywhere or anything, but listing out his character quirks makes it pretty clear.

He repeats orders, arguing with his batch when they don’t follow them, and worries about doing things wrong. This feels like a safety thing to me, almost like telling kids in class to be quiet when the teacher is talking for no other reason than it feels right and them breaking rules is stressful. (can you tell I’m speaking from experience cause this whole post will be me speaking from experience bkshsjsks)

He reads and memorizes the reg manuals, liking to be caught up on the latest versions. Again, this feels like a safety thing; him wanting to know how things will work ahead of time so he can be prepared in every situation.

He doesn’t like being wrong, like when we see him refusing to back down on thinking the Seperatists Senator’s distress call is a trap (Avi Singh I think?). Even when the evidence starts poking holes in his theory, he doesn’t want to let it go. I’m not sure how to explain how this relates to autism other than that fact that autistic people just don’t like being wrong? Like it’s just hard to admit that and it’s almost scary to change your mind like that sometimes? Idrk honestly, I’m DEFINITELY not an expert lol, just saying my piece

So many of Echo’s character quirks relate directly to autism, and all of them are things I strongly relate to. (yes this is why he’s my favorite shush)

But most of all is his picky eating. And uh, this might actually get a tad heavy here but I hope this can maybe share an accurate perspective on it?

Many autistic people are fairly picky eaters, something I’ve definitely struggled with since I was born. We see Echo being skeptical of food multiple times, especially when they’re new to him. We see him eating rations bars, which would be familiar, without a second thought, but new things he’s extremely hesitant to try.

With that in mind and the headcanon (kinda) that he’s autistic, this sounds a lot like ARFID to me.

ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is tricky to describe since there’s nothing conscious to it, its just somewhat of a mental hurdle? Like there’s a point you just can’t cross no matter what, a bit like ADHD and executive dysfunction, expect a lot stronger lol. It’s pretty much just picky eating to the extreme that a person cannot control and just makes your choices extremely limited when it comes to food.

This makes it difficult (ahem, impossible) to do seemingly basic things like trying absolutely any new foods. There are a few safe ones, maybe even a category of foods that are almost completely safe (for me: most deserts or fruits), but anything outside of that is different, it’s new, and it does not feel safe. When I say picky eating to the extreme, I mean extreme. If I’m literally starving, haven’t eaten in way too long, but the only things available aren’t safe foods? Well too bad guess I’m not eating today 🤷 It’s not much of a choice, it’s just being trapped by your own neurodivergent brain 🫠🫠🫠

It can feel childish and incredibly alienating to constantly turn down new foods or restaurants, or to order the same thing every time from a restaurant, off the kids menu or with special requests, and I just think that piece is being missed in Echo’s picky eating. Now I’m not telling anyone to stop making it a humorous thing cause it totally is in the show, but hey, I’m always here for the angst potential :)

Like what if the reason Echo still looks malnourished after joining the batch is because his safe foods like typical rations just aren’t readily available after the Empire springs up? What if the batch is on shore leave and decide to go to a restaurant and Echo has to either turn them down and explain, or force himself to go and try to tough it out? What if one of the batch makes a joke about Echo’s picky eating, just trying to make conversation or something, but Echo just fully shuts down? Maybe even Domino would joke about it at first, until Fives learned better and started helping Echo, but uhoh now he’s gone and Echo has to figure things out all over again with a new batch 🥲

Is this a fictional character that was grossed out by foods like two times and I’m just heavily projecting onto? Yeah, sure, but hey, I’d love to see more people recognizing this side of it and maybe connecting with it too :)

Starting over may become easier over time, but it never becomes easy.

It's exhausting to wake up, day after day, buying and investing stock into something you believe to be a sure thing, just to one day wake up and find that the market has crashed.

I do crave those close relationships. But I struggle with chasing after them.

I want to be chased, for once. I want to be thought of, to be missed, to be one of the dozen thoughts that crosses someone's mind when they first wake up, and before they go to bed.

But how do you tell someone that without coming across as desperate?

In fact... Why should you need to tell anyone that? At a certain point, shouldn't it be common knowledge?

People choose, on a daily basis, who they deem worthy of investment. But wouldn't it be nice if the investment were mutual?

His son's children

When Alfred looked into the security video of the front gates, he froze for a moment. Taking in the image of the two children there. One was a tall, red haired girl with a teal headband, confident but with a look of wary in her eyes. Behind the girl was a younger boy, black haired and wearing a NASA shirt, appearing to be reluctant like what they were doing was a bad idea. Alfred's stomach dropped just a little when he saw the boy and his familiar features.

A second later worry flitted accross his face, but still, because of protocol, he asked them for their reason for this surprise visit. No one expected any visitors this late, and Alfred knew if he looked over his shoulder, he would find one of the children snooping, trying to find out who their visitor could be.

Yet when he heard the girls request to see him, not Bruce Wayne, but him, Alfred Pennyworth, his stomach dropped even more. Knowing now for sure that he hadn't seen wrong with the boy's features. He buzzed them in, while his mind remembered old cherished memories of two you black haired toddlers playing together, growing up together until that one day. When he chose to stay and his significant other chose to leave. Sometimes, he wondered if Bruce still remembered the one that could have been a brother to him if things had gone different.

He doesn't regret his decision, but when he looked at the two worn-out children, no his own grandchildren, before him he mourned the fact that he had let his own son become astranged from him and Bruce. Having believed it to be the best with what Bruce had started to get up to.

But maybe it wasn't to late to make amends he thought as the young girl, clearly of the same vibes as Richard, like someone who had grown up to fast and taking on responsibilities that shouldn't be theirs, tried to explain that they won't call him grandpa if it made him uncomfortable and that they would only need a place to stay for a couple of days before they could move on.

Alfred's heart broke for them as he listened to the girls, Jasmine's hurried explanation.

During her explanation, he studied them more closely. Marveling at how much the boy, Daniel, looked like him when he had been younger. But also noticing the clear signs of injury he was trying to hide. He suppressed a huff, years of taking care of his reckless charges and other grandchildren, and their wounds had made him an expert in spotting these things. But it also gave him a sickening feeling. The injuries Daniel tried to hide did not appear like your average kind of injuries.

They were going to stay, Alfred would make sure of it and he would also let Bruce know of his findings. There was clearly more to his grandchildren sudden appearance than Jasmin was willing to explain.

Whatever endangered his grandchildren from his own estranged son. He would ensure that nothing would hurt them ever again.

His granddaughter did not need to list reasons to convince him to let them stay for a couple of days. And his grandson did not need to look this cautious and wary of him like someone was going to attack him any second.

Alfred was going to give them a home if his son couldn't. And if Bruce had a problem with it, he could take it up with his children. Clearly, if he looked over his shoulder at the noisy little ones, all of his other grandchildren could see that these two before him needed a home to stay.

Besides from the looks of it, they would fit right in with this family.
