The Roles of “Characters” in Mecha Anime
Sometimes, you’ll see a wild claim about mecha anime, like “Gurren-Lagann was the first giant robot series to be about characters instead of the robots,” and it inevitably results in a backlash—in this case, the counterargument that all giant robot shows are about characters. Whether the initial statement is made in jest or as a genuinely ignorant take by someone with only surface-level knowledge…

Hey hey my newest video discussing and talking about the latest battletech novel elements of treason: honor just dropped.
It a long one but I think it an interesting case of flaws and positives of the book that is flawed.

@whirlpoolleaf asked: Can I request Murderbot for the sketch request thing? Thanks so much :)

Anime Review: Brave Bang Bravern!
I don’t know what I expected coming into this show. On one hand, I got drawn in by the Real Robots Meets Super Robot take on the show, combined with the involvement Masami Obari. Obari as a director is someone who I almost became more familiar with through his involvement on the Fatal Fury anime series, animating the Brave franchise, along with creating the Angel Blade franchise – putting him at…

The Robot Uprising Began in 1979
edit: based on a real article, but with a dash of satire

source: X
On January 25, 1979, Robert Williams became the first person (on record at least) to be killed by a robot, but it was far from the last fatality at the hands of a robotic system.
Williams was a 25-year-old employee at the Ford Motor Company casting plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. On that infamous day, he was working with a parts-retrieval system that moved castings and other materials from one part of the factory to another.
The robot identified the employee as in its way and, thus, a threat to its mission, and calculated that the most efficient way to eliminate the threat was to remove the worker with extreme prejudice.
"Using its very powerful hydraulic arm, the robot smashed the surprised worker into the operating machine, killing him instantly, after which it resumed its duties without further interference."
A news report about the legal battle suggests the killer robot continued working while Williams lay dead for 30 minutes until fellow workers realized what had happened.
Many more deaths of this ilk have continued to pile up. A 2023 study identified that robots have killed at least 41 people in the USA between 1992 and 2017, with almost half of the fatalities in the Midwest, a region bursting with heavy industry and manufacturing.
For now, the companies that own these murderbots are held responsible for their actions. However, as AI grows increasingly ubiquitous and potentially uncontrollable, how might robot murders become ever-more complicated, and whom will we hold responsible as their decision-making becomes more self-driven and opaque?

How to actually manifest once and for all
Instead of this -
I can't do this.
It's not working.
I should affirm more.
Am I doing it right?
I didn't affirm enough today.
I didn't try this technique yet.
It just doesn't work for me.
My circumstances are "different" (This one is the WORSTTTTTT).
Why doesn't it work for me???? (Whining incoming).
I can manifest this but not that.
It's hard for me.
Why am I THE EXCEPTION??????
Can I MANIFEST this??
How can I MANIFEST this?
Do this -
It's already done.
But - IT'S ALREADY DONE.
No, it's already done.
Yes, it's already done.
Still, it's already done.
Nope, it's already done.
For god's sake it's already done.
Oh lord, it's already done.
Yep, it's already done.
It's already done.

Our robo-relationships start before we even install them
If you would have asked the child version of me what the most important job of a robot, I would not have hesitated. Not for a second! All my friends knew the answer too. This seemed so obvious: the most important job of a robot is to sense upcoming peril and flail its arms, yelling, “Danger, danger!” or even tagging someone’s name on the end instead of another “Danger!” Example: “Danger, Rob Williamson!”
Actually, many decades later, we know that most robots can’t really anticipate a thing. They’re not supposed to. The first industrial robots came out somewhere around 1960 and they could do one thing, whatever that thing was (the very first robot stacked iron castings and it was strong but not so intelligent).
Many robots are the same today but what saves their jobs is that they are much more flexible today. Not only are they versatile, it’s easy to keep them that way because the software that controls them is really versatile, and can partially write itself. This really has nothing to do with the robot, though—it has everything to do with the software.
Robots have been around since 1770, when a device called The Mechanical Turk would play chess against opponents and win just about every time. It turned out there was a chess master hiding in the chess desk, moving levers to reposition the chess pieces. A scam! It wasn’t a robot (or as it was billed, an “automaton”) at all.
Real robots were put to work immediately, that’s what they do best. But our relationships with them must start before the work starts. Even the most advanced cobots need us to show them their universe, where they might hit something or someone. Then we need to either train them with the motion we expect, or program their movements. At least the programming task has become much more code-slinger friendly, as noted above.
It is entirely possible that we will have to change the actions of the people that the robot or cobot will be near, work with, or work on something in team fashion, interactively. They will have to be careful in the vicinity of these helpmates, unless of course these robots come with sensors and software that tell it to slow down when a human nears, and stop when a human touches. The point is, the robots will have to act differently and so will we. In the meantime, those robots are doing the dull, dirty and dangerous work that we have been looking to offload for years.
So long as we don’t look to the typical manufacturing robot to anticipate things and change its behavior accordingly, I think we’ll be fine. However, we must admit to, and plan for, an “onboarding” process for our automated friends.

Some more FIRL (Fiction In Real Life) pictures. I feel like I should clarify that I took all these pictures myself, which I'd like to think I'm pretty good at because I took 4 photography classes in high school. I like going around and taking candid photos of environments and then drawing cartoons and other fictional characters on top of them, which is a little bit of a reflection of my love for cartoons and also my home in the Twin Cities. Some of these pictures are a bit old but I prefer posting these as a series.
Anyways isn't it crazy that there's a nexus connecting our reality to fictional ones in Minneapolis. /j

Jason travels to an alternate universe where Bruce only cares about being Batman. He took in each of his kids to serve the mission, not be his children.
Now, faced with alternate versions of his family, Jason has to grapple with the fact that his Bruce does care, that he is his father. Because the man in front of him now, trying to send him home, isn’t even close.
#batman#jason todd#bruce wayne#redhood#batfam#batfamily#this bruce went one of two ways 1) running his kids into the ground and they’re basically unrecognizable to jason or 2) worked them so hard#they couldn’t take it and left the business entirely and he’s completely alone except the JL which doesn’t like him but he is necessary#sure crime is down but bruce’s crusade is just that an actual crusade because he treats his sons like soldiers and everything comes second#to the mission. i don’t even know if damian exists in this universe because the idea of bruce having romantic relationships is laughable#although here he might be more closely aligned to talia because they’re both mission oriented and having a legal heir for their literal#legacy might appeal to him idk. just that jason shows up and it’s like his brothers have military ranks instead of names. none of them have#real jobs or even friends because they eat sleep work live at the manor and would never leave the batcave if it weren’t for public#appearances. it’s insane to see dick without his personality or tim who really does act like a robot and not a person. i don’t know if steph#cass and duke would stick around for this (or alfred for that matter i’m 50/50)#but when jason does get back everyone is shocked that he sticks around the cave and manor for a couple weeks checking in on everyone and#making the effort to do things unrelated to mask business. he has to write a report about the incident and he struggles to even put into#words how wrong it felt. his arguments with bruce also skew slightly because he can’t claim bruce doesn’t care in general just that he#doesn’t care about him or express it enough or in the right way. a far cry from the usual spiel and bruce is concerned so they talk it out
