We'll see if I ever find time to write this thing given how many ideas I'm chasing down but the vibe is LIVING in my head and pulls heavily on my summer spent living in a tiny village in rural France, and the mountan/ravine landscape I spent probably an inadvisable amount of time exploring as a random non-local woman with a not-entirely-fluent grasp on the language travelling entirely solo because I didn't know anyone except for the staff at the bakery where I was staging. There were a lot of ancient shepherd's paths with perilous drops, and times I found myself caught out in low places by the dark when the sun dipped behind hills earlier than I expected, or I ended up further afield than planned because a path called my name.

I do feel like I should note that from maybe day 1 of playing Dark Parables (and there's a definite chance this was unconscious projecting on my part) I've seen the detective as a trans man. I say unconscious projecting bc I hadn't come to the conclusion of transness yet. I also somehow completely missed that novelization in Briar Rose. so.

Bugs Bunny is an icon and he was so good for his role in this short. When he and the wolf realized they could work together against the pigs... oh my God. Come on Tumblr, you have to admit they had a little gay tension between them. Besides, at the end, when the brick house comes down and the wolf, so surprised and proud of himself exclaims "I did it!" and then it pans over to Bugs with the bomb and he slyly adds "We did it!" communist Bugs canon.

my first exposure to a real adaption of a classic story in video. Girl twists the whole story up compared to the original. Love how it's like an old fashioned PI show but still so 2005 in vibes.

A classic fairy-tale-with-a-twist-movie that if anyone hasn't seen they should. This story takes various elements not just from Red Riding Hood's story but other fairy tales to retell the story with Red as the true center and hero of the story and reframes it as a mystery. It's also one of the few good retellings that makes the wolf good while not framing him as a love interest, which allows the plot to remain focused on Red.

Listen. I don't necessarily think she should win this movie is fucking insane and not all of that insanity is necessarily good. HOWEVER. I have a pitch for you. Wouldn't it be so fucking funny to put Red Puckett on this poll as a wild card? Like how many people would be like "fucking HOODWINKED?". Also what other tellings of red riding hood go the crime mystery route? Like cmon

She's the protagonist of what I believe is one of the funniest and best written films of all time. She's so smart and talented

The entire Hoodwinked series is just really funny to me. I also think she's an absolute badass as she knows kung-fu and takes no shit from the wolf. Also her granny appears above her when they are both flying and somehow she sees her as a big cloud head despite it just being her granny doing a ski jump. She had to be high because she met a weed loving Billy goat literally right before that.

the creators said 'what if red riding hood did karate and was voiced by Anne Hathaway' and simply did not wait for an answer.

Okay as a child I watched this movie and liked it a lot, but by coincidence, I happened to watch it on Eid twice in a row (I'm Muslim). So for a few years in a row I made it a tradition to watch this movie on Eid while drinking orange juice (very important piece of the puzzle). This movie is so dumb and goofy, I really enjoy it, and also she's voiced by Princess Mia Thermopolis herself.

Summary: Aaron, you, Rick, Glenn, and Michonne try to find the community that Aaron spoke about but a herd of walkers on 23 stalled your plans. Also, Rick finds out something that makes him realize that he overreacted.

When the group made it back, Rick started to eye Aaron while he talked. He talked Michonne outside while you got everything ready. You handed Carl baby Judith and he went to get in the other car. Once everyone was ready to leave, you pulled Rick aside.

"Rick," You pulled his face to yours and placed a small kiss on his lips, wanting him to know that you were his and only his.

"Let's go."

The car ride was sort of smooth. Glenn was a good driver, after all he was a pizza driver. He started to freak out when he saw that the road was full of walkers. They were all growling, snarling, whining as they made their way for the moving car. Glenn ran straight through them but the car stun and sputtered when he tried to get it to turn on. He cursed and looked over to Rick in the passenger seat.

"I'll get out and see what I can do," Michonne said, she got out and walked in front of the car.

"I'll keep your back," You said before getting out.

Rick and Glenn started to wipe the window shield. Aaron saw a red flare go up in the air, he knew something was wrong.

"Whatever this is, it's over. I need to go."

"You aren't going anywhere," Rick snapped. Aaron had been testing his patience all day.

Walkers started to get closer during the time that Michonne was clearing out the walker guts and body parts from under the hood. You pulled out your knife and started to stab the approaching dead. Soon, Michonne finished and hollered for you to get back in the car. The both of you were back to safety and Rick sighed in relief. He was worried but he trust you.

When the group reached the resting spot that the rest were at, Aaron asked for some guy named Eric. Hugging everyone that you had not seen since the barn, you told Rick that you were going to bed. You followed the group in and walked past the room that held Eric and Aaron. The door was cracked open enough to peak through.

You were not trying to listen but it was kind of hard not to when you hear the pain and worry in Aaron's voice. It reminded you of when Rick's knuckles were busted and almost broken when he got into a fight with one of the people in the group at the prison.

"I was so worried."

"It's just a broken ankle. I'm okay." The man, Eric, let Aaron guide his lips together and they shared a sweet kiss.

You giggle at the sight. Not because you were uncomfortable, no, you were laughing because Rick had gotten jealous for no reason. Aaron was gay and Rick had to "claim" you in front of Aaron. You laughed and told Rick that Aaron wanted to talk to him.

Rick was not in the mood. He just wanted to get some sleep and hold his girl but no, Aaron wanted something. See, Rick did not know that you were just fibbing so that you could make him see that he overreacted.

"I love you and I will never leave your side," Aaron whispered to Eric before kissing him once again.

Rick watched the scene in front of him and groaned. He noticed how much of an asshole and how he had been wrong he had been. He walked back to your shared room and when he saw your face, he just knew that you did it on purpose.

"God, I wish I had a camera for how stupid you look," You laugh.

"Yeah, yeah."

He was not mad, just ashamed that he let his jealousy get in the way and cloud his vision. He just loved you and was very protective. You were a mom to his kids. Maybe not biologically, but you were helping him raise them in the world now. He was always thankful for you.

"So admit it," You grin widely. It was hardly ever that Rick overreacts and the fact that you were the reason, it sent a thrill through your body. You just wanted him to admit it to you.

"Admit what?"

"That you were wrong."

Silence filled the room. You pretended to be mad and huff before getting you pillow and blanket. You raised an eyebrow and he cracked.

"Fine, I was wrong." He rolled his eyes.

"Rick, you have nothing to worry about." You move closer to him, placing your hands onto his shoulders.

"And why is that?" His deep southern accent drawled. His eyes flicking over your body.

"Because I am Rick Grimes' girl and ain't nobody else's." You say before pulling his body down to the bed so you could kiss him. To prove that you were just his girl.

Max looks at Charles in the club, dancing and enjoying having a random girl grinding on him, drunk but with still a drink in his hand. The heavy bass of the drums makes his heart feel like it’s leaping out of its place. He watches as Charles drags his free hand from her neck down her curves, resting on her ass, underneath her dress. Max bets the skin is impossibly smooth and plump.

He shakes his head and goes back to his gin and tonic. Alex and George, next to him, are lively talking about some stupid mechanical component of their cars. Max feels tired of cars for the first time in his life. He goes back to watching Charles eat that girl’s mouth out with drunk fervour. He’s rapt because of the sight. She keeps one hand on his face and the other sliding down his chest, feeling his defined abs.

Max rolls his eyes. It’s going to be a long night. Charles is staying in the room in front of his, and Max doesn’t have enough depravity to witness that too. He takes the last sip of his drink and casts one last glance at Charles. He’s sucking on the girl’s neck but he’s staring right at Max. Max shakes his head and raises his empty glass to him before turning around and walking away.

He pats George and Alex on their backs as a goodbye and calls a cab to get back to his hotel. Looking for someone is not something for that night.

He meets Carlos and his girlfriend in the lobby and stays for a little with them to talk. Charles and the girl walk past them, too busy grabbing and kissing to notice them. Carlos sighs and complains about Charles’ behaviour. Max laughs it off, but Carlos knows they share the same concern. It’s been going on for a while and it would be better for him to stop.

“I’m going to sleep, see you tomorrow at the airport?” Max says after a good chat, hugging Carlos and kissing his girlfriend’s cheeks.

Carlos nods and Max walks to the elevators. The ride is quiet and Max enjoys the silence while it lasts. He walks to his room and the whole hall is silent. Weird. He shakes his head and swipes his key inside. He takes off his clothes and treats himself to a nice hot shower. When he's done he dries himself up, dries his hair, puts on a comfy white cotton t-shirt and a pair of underwear. Everything is still so quiet. He opens a bottle of water and takes a sip. He had just a drink that night, so the morning would be nice to him.

Max considers watching a movie, but a knock on his hotel door gives him other plans. He furrows his brows and sets down the water bottle. Thinking it could be either Carlos or Lando, he opens the door.

Charles is standing right in front of him. He ditched the club outfit for a simple oversized red sweater, covering his upper thighs. Max is surprised, but he lets him in without uttering a word. Who is he to give Charles Leclerc the talk?

“Early night?” Max asks after Charles sits on his bed, soft hair hidden underneath the hood.

“Too drunk. She didn't remember my name and I was sick. Called a cab and her friends and sent her home…” Charles explains. Max wasn't really interested in knowing the truth. Charles doesn't owe him anything.

“Movie?” Max asks and Charles nods.

“Don't laugh, but I bought the Devil Wears Prada on the payTV of the hotel, is it okay?” Max continues. Charles nods again with a small smile.

Max puts on the movie and sits on the bed next to Charles. It’s a strange situation, they’ve never done anything like it. Their comfort zone is the track, sometimes a padel court. Sharing a bed is something Max never allowed himself to think about.

“Do you think I look for girls every time I go out because I’m scared of being gay?” Charles asks, as the first scene rolls by.

Max stops the movie and turns around to look at him. His eyes are glassy and there’s a sad expression on his face.

“What do you mean? There’s nothing wrong with being gay…” Max tries to articulate and Charles nods, half convinced.

They get back to the movie but Max can’t stop thinking about the words Charles spoke a few minutes before. Why did Charles decide to tell him this? Max stops the movie again and looks at Charles straight in the eyes.

They’re so green and so sad. Full of tears too. Max can read them all too well. A forest to his sky.

“You don’t have to tell me anything now, or ever, okay? But whatever it is, I’ll listen and won’t judge, okay? Like a debrief…” Max tries and Charles nods, blinking away a few tears.

“You can sleep here if you want…” Max mumbles, taking a tissue from his nightstand and giving it to Charles. He blows his nose and nods.

Max puts back on the movie and Charles lifts the duvet, snuggling next to Max, but under the covers. Max would like to say that he doesn’t know what to do, but his brand is honesty, so he wraps an arm around Charles and soothes him, trying to keep his feelings at bay.

“It’s okay…” Max mumbles, more to himself than to Charles.

He hopes he will find Charles next to him in the morning.

" Fucking piece of shit! " I huff while banging my hands against my steering wheel. I fucking new it wouldn't make it to the city.

I made it to South Park when my dealer decided to call me and let me know he sold my ounces to some random girl he hooked up with at a party. Thank god it's not too far away.

On my way back my car decided to break down. Who knows what the fuck happened. It's about twenty years old and barely clinging onto life.

I peer out of my window into the dark road. Droplets of rain splash against my car. A dim streetlight pours down onto the hood of my trunk. Unlocking the car, I push open my door and step outside.

Rain pounds against my skin, soaking through my hood.

I'm immediately greeted with a burst of hot steam as I open the hood of my old Toyota. I scan the engine, attempting to figure out what's wrong. I don't fucking know what any of this is.

Holding up the hood of the car, I try to touch pull something. Horrible mistake. I let out a pained hiss and yank my hand back. Fuck that was hot.

The sound of tires pulling to a stop drags me away from the car. I glance over the hood at the owner.

An older truck parks besides my car. The window rolls down to reveal Ellie. Her mechanic jumpsuit is partially covered by an olive green jacket. " Hey, you good? "

" Just peachy. " I glance down at my red fingers.

Without another word, Ellie jumps out of the truck. She shields her eyes from the rain with her left hand, her right hand holding a half finished cigarette.

" Hold this for me, will ya? " She hands me the cigarette.

With a stiff nod, I carefully accept it.

Ellie lifts up the hood of my care. She peers down into the dark engine. " Well you definitely blew a gasket. "

Fuck, it's cold as shit out here. A shiver runs down my spine. I'm not sure if it's from my now fully drenched clothes or the fact that Ellie seems to somehow look hotter when wet.

Wait, fuck. No. I shouldn't be thinking about her this way. There's no fucking way I'd have a shot with her. Besides, who knows if she's gay. She also might end up leaving again. I can't get my hopes up. I don't have time for a stupid fucking crush.

Ellie's voice drags me back to reality. " When's the last time you had your oil checked? " Ellie pushes some hair out of her face.

I shrug. " I-I don't know. It's been a while I guess. "

Ellie pulls out a long stick. " Yeah, I can tell. Shit's empty. " Ellie puts the stick down with a small head shake. " You need to check your oil once a month. "

I don't say anything.

Ellie closes the hood of the car, turning her attention back to me. " The shop's closed for the night but I can come back first thing in the morning with the tow. "

Ellie opens up the passenger side door, waiting for me to get in.

" I can open my own door, Ellie. " I mutter in embarrassment after grabbing my stuff. Did I take too long?

" I know you can. " Ellie rolls her eyes while taking back the now burnt out cigarette. " I'm just not an asshole. "

Ellie shuts the door before running around the drivers side. " Depending on how bad it is we should be able to have your car back to you in a couple days. "

I shake my head. Beads of rain fly off my head and onto the truck's tan dashboard. " There's no way I can afford to pay to fix my car right now. Fuck, I can barely pay my rent. Can you just drop the car off at my house? " I let out a frustrated sigh. " I can probably pay for the tow but that's about it. "

Ellie's silent for a moment.

Rain gently smacks against the car. The wipers squeak in unison, creating a repetitive song.

" I live up here. " I point towards a small, unkempt brick building.

Ellie pulls to a stop in the parking lot.

" Thanks. " I shoot her a small smile while getting out. I close the door, eager to get inside and out of my cold clothes.

The truck's window rolls down. " I'll take care of it. "

I turn to her in confusion. " What? No. Ellie, I can't let you do that. "

Ellie shakes her head. " Y/N. I'm doing it. You can't fucking stop me. " Ellie puts the truck in reverse and slowly begins pulling out.

" But it's my car! " I yell after her. " Ellie! "

" I'm the one with the tow! " Ellie yells back. " Don't worry, Y/N. I'll get your car back in no time. "

Soon all I can see are the backlights of Ellie's truck driving away.

BD reviews: The good, the okay and the bad

Today's review: Et à la fin, ils meurent

After the bad, here is the good! A little BD I would definitively advise for anyone who wants to start in a fun way fairytale history or research ; or that would make a perfect gift to someone into fairytales - a BD I definitively recommend as a great product. "Et à la fin, ils meurent" (And they die in the end - subtitled "The dirty truth about fairy tales"), by Lou Lubie.

I had heard of this BD upon its release because it was everywhere on the news as one of THE trendy products to get. I only checked it out much later and as it turns out, people were right to hype it so much.

This book is a very funny and humoristic look at all the dark and grime of the "original" fairytales (and by original the author means the historical ones). Lou Lubie dispels and debunks all the cliches and stereotypes about fairytales by taking a comparative and explanative look not only at the original versions of famous stories as written by Grimm or Perrault, but also by taking a look at Basile's story, and going as far as some of the oldest fairytale versions known (the Chinese Cinderella, the Egyptian tale of The Two Brothers). The book is filled with jokes that land beautifully, in part thanks to the juxtaposition of the cartoonish violence and sexuality of the original texts with the cute-and-chibi style of Lou Lubie, this is a truly hilarious read.

But being the interest of this book as fun read - it is also a very informative and complete work, as Lou Lubie clearly studied her fairytale history and knows what she is talking about. She doesn't just compare the "big four" as she qualifies them (Basile, Perrault, the Grimm brothers and Walt Disney), but she also extends a full chronology going as deep as Antiquity and the oral tales of old, and as recently as very fresh and new works (the Once Upon a Time series, the Disney's Maleficent movie, the Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters one). She mocks everybody when it comes to the fairytale authors and writers - but in a fair way, as she clearly doesn't have a bias in the "folkloric/oral tale vs literary one", as she presents the good and the bad of each variation. She also alternates chapters precisely centered around one specific fairytale (one about Cinderella, another about Bluebeard, a third about Rapunzel) with more general chapters evoking important questions - the structure of fairytales, the genders in fairytale, are fairytale racists, the reception of fairytales today... And she also evokes all sorts of topics that are usually not evoked in those "vulgarization" and "simplified" fairytale books - it is very pleasant to see a place given to the female fairytale authors, from madame d'Aulnoy to Boezna Nemcova. She even has an entire chapter around the fairytale of "The Sea Dog" and how it was rediscovered and hailed as a "true, censored gay traditional fairytale" by Peter Jordi Wood (I had talked about it on this blog before).

A great work... Which still has a big flaw though. Because nothing can be perfect, unfortunately, and the only problem of this book is that Lou Lubie clearly read Jack Zipes' works and as a result she bases her study of Perrault on the ground that he wrote for children, and that his stories were aimed at kids, and created in an educational intent... Which we know today to be a false myth spread by the 19th and 20th century, and which has been currently debunked - Perrault wrote for adults as part of a salon entertainment and literary game, he didn't intend his stories to be read by children. This notably results in some misunderstanding - such as Lou Lubie presenting "some of Perrault's morals as frankly immoral today" and evoking how Little Red Riding Hood is part of the "rape culture"... What is even more striking is that, while she commits this mistake, the author clearly avoids this when it came to the women writers of fairytales like madame d'Aulnoy or madame de Murat, as she clearly describes them as writing fairytale for adults with very subversive messages. She gets it right for them, but wrong for Perrault...

Hopefully beyond that the rest of the work is truly great and I can't recommend this book enough as a great, complete but simplified glimpse at what fairytales are really about.

Some of my favorite jokes would include the brothers Grimm trying not to murder in rage a Disney fan telling them the "real" story of Rapunzel, the Grimm and Perrault constantly bickering when trying to tell the story of Cinderella, Cinderella watering her mother's grave to prove to her stepmom that "You'll see if dresses don't grow on trees!" ; or the presentation of the logic of "the two previous siblings die at the hands of the villain, but the last one survives" (a la Fitcher's Bird) as being actually "video game logic" where brothers and sisters act as additional lives you can spend to understand how to solve the puzzle.

mechs fans need a win methinks. my mutual told me to go submit red but i also have very strong opinions on her because this entire album makes me insane. red started as a young 12 year old hacker who eventually put her skills to the test when a government-made computer virus (called the wolf virus) went rogue and unplugged her grandmother from life support. (the wolf virus was initially intended to figure out what wasn’t necessary for the war and divert power to weapons instead. it went rogue and started going after people who would never be able to help the war [ie disabled and elderly]). so red FOUGHT IT OFF ON HER OWN and TAMED IT. so then she essentially had a weapon designed to take down crown weapons and vehicles. so she joined the war effort and fought for brutal 30 years. it’s unclear whether she survived the final battle, but i think she deserves to take the win. also. she’s in space. she’s cyberpunk. she’s part of a retold fairytale cast BUT IN A COSMIC WAR. it’s like if star wars was actually good.
