AO3 works being stolen and posted on rivd.net

What is happening, and what you can do. Check for edits with additions at the end of the post!

We've posted these infos in our Discord server, but want to make them accessible for more of you AO3 and fanfic folks out there. What is happening? A user called "Fanfic Books" on the site https://rivd.net is posting over a million of fanfics since May 18th (account creation time of that user), all of which seem to be stolen from AO3 users. You can check if your works were stolen by searching your AO3 username on that site. Reporting this on the site is tedious, and contains so much requested data and personal (sensitive) information about you that is just seems sketchy and like they want to grab your data to sell it off again. (See this for more on that.) That a virus called "rivd" apparently also exists does not help their case. Since the person posting the works is also listed as Moderator of the website, chances of successful reports are, by our estimation, very small to non-existant. (As you can look up here.) Creating an account on that site is also tedious - after trying it, the feedback was that a moderator needs to approve of my account creation request. How long that is supposed to take is not known. What can you do? We deduced - through admittedly rushed, because we felt like time was of the essence, and and sparce, checks - that people who have their works locked on AO3 have not been affected. (At all/as much is not to say, it's our best hope and theory rn.) We advised our server members to lock their AO3 works for the time being, as that currently seems like the only prevention method available. A great tutorial for how to lock all your AO3 works at once has been posted here. Kudos to this X/Twitter post that seemed to have started the spread of information, and others relaying the infos (like e.g. r/AO3 on Reddit). Edit (0,5h after initial post):

With permission of the author on AO3, here are screenshots from when I checked if their works (unlocked on AO3) were stolen. Searching for works of the FFL Discord server's admin, who has them locked on AO3, resulted no matches on the rivd site - hence the theory/recommendation that locking your AO3 works helps.

There also seems to be a new occurrence that the fanfiction tab has been emptied/does not contain (publically displayed) fanfics anymore. What this means and if the fanfics are really taken down is unclear, but given that the anime fanfic category that once existed is seemingly completely gone, something is being done. Rumor is that a mass report of DMCA at Cloudflare caused this - it feels like a win either way!

It seems like rivd.net is now completely down/inaccessible. See last attached screenshot in this post! No infos on what this means or what caused this are available atm, but like before, it feels like a small win!

Note: This post will contain a collection of data from across the internet, mainly reddit where people have figured out how this malware works and what it does at its core. I will do my best to explain to you what's going on behind the scenes.

1 - How it starts

The way this scam works is by a friend of yours, or someone in the same server as you, falling for this scam and downloading then opening the malicious file that their friend had sent to them. In a very long line of things, it's a chain reaction of them hijacking and using the stolen account to then scam someone else. And if you're not quick enough, it can and will steal everything on your computer/phone.

Not everyone on the internet is scam savvy, but that's what guides like these are meant to help with. :)

Other reported red flags to look out for:

I need you to beta test my game. Download my game and try it for 4-5 minutes then write a review. Here's a free key/password for the game go to this link. I'm working on a project and need someone to try my game. I'll give you free items/vip if you try my game. Try this new mobile game <link> ** and I'll give you items. I'll pay you $ via PayPal or give you Nitro if you try it.

What it boils down to, is that for this scam to work, they need you to download the file they send you, or a file that's uploaded via a link to a file sharing website, and then you have to open the file.

Do not do this, obviously.

Do not accept any suspicious .exe or .jar files from your friends or fellow server members if you do not know what might be inside it.

** Sometimes they will send you an APK file or a link to the google play store for a mobile game, and sadly this too, is malware, and it will steal your passwords. Again, do not download it.

2 - The Malware/Virus

If you were someone who downloaded a file like this and then opened it, you have now infected your computer, and... unfortunately, all of your Passwords, addresses, Crypto info, and credit card information, have now been compromised.

Nothing is safe with this Malware.

3 - The Goal

The goal of this malware, as noted above, is not just to steal your passwords, credit card info, but also your discord account.

There are people who will pay for this malware (it is being sold for others to use, which sucks) so that they can take over your discord accounts if you have certain badges or names.

If a scummy individual running this scam wants something they don't have that you do, they will try to take it from you.

Do be warned that if you fall for this, you may also receive threatening emails to have your personal information leaked if you don't pay a ransom/money amount after you got infected.

Final Thoughts: All I can say is.. common sense should be a big factor here. Internet safety 101 and all that. You shouldn't be clicking links to anything or anyone saying something's 'free' or with the offer of you getting some reward from it. Nor should you go believing or downloading things from your friends if they start acting weird or weirder than normal.

Pro tip: If you get a message on steam or discord by someone asking you to 'visit this website' to 'vote for my friend in <thing>' that too is a scam and it will steal your login information.

If you're like me and your best friend on the internet is someone you've known online for 18 years, having him suddenly say 'I'm a developer try my game' would be a big indicator to me that his account was compromised.

If you can, try to make sure you're connected with your friends through other outlets like tumblr or bluesky. Or even through e-mail (as old as that seems lol.)

That way if something goes wrong, they can at least let you know about it.

AITA for instantly banning someone from my Discord server for using AI to “inspire” art?

I (16F) have a small Discord server for friends and friends of friends. We usually share creative works with each other there, like one friend makes music, another writes, I draw, etc.

So M (14F) was invited by a friend about a year ago and has been pretty chill. She’s always been super enthusiastic about my art, complimenting it a lot, etc. She started posting art a bit after joining, and it was clear she was a beginner. At one point though, her drawings jumped from plain sketches to stuff with backgrounds, etc.

Last week another member/friend O (15?NB) asked where she got the idea for a background of a drawing from because it was unique. M just casually said she used AI to generate images she wanted and then drew them in her own style for the backgrounds of her drawings. Like “calm blue alien landscape,” “underwater coral cartoon style,” etc.

I kind of hopped in here and asked why she would do that because AI art is stolen. M said she just wanted to “have art as cool as mine” and was sad about her skill level, which seemed like BS and guilt tripping to most of us. I banned her and blocked her right after without saying anything else.

O’s reaction was basically “wtf” and they thought she didn’t deserve to be banned for that. I replied that I had made it clear I despised AI art for stealing artists works, and even if M was redrawing them it was still theft and the AI was still robbing hard effort from artists. O said I was being unreasonable and has been silent since.

I asked a couple IRL friends who said I overreacted, but nearly all of my online friends agree with me. Maybe this isn’t the most unbiased platform to ask, but it’s better than Reddit. So AITA?

What is a “Reliable Source” in Witchcraft?

In witchcraft, a reliable source is one that presents information accurately, ethically, and with transparency about its origins, especially when it comes to spiritual practices, cultural elements, or historical claims. Reliable sources respect traditions, differentiate between personal experiences and established practices, and avoid harmful or misleading generalizations.

They may include well-researched books, culturally rooted practitioners, reputable blogs, historical texts, or experienced teachers who are transparent about their influences and lineage. In a path as personal and eclectic as witchcraft, reliability doesn’t always mean objectivity. It means being honest, thoughtful, and context-aware.

Why Use Reliable Sources in Witchcraft?

Reliable sources help you avoid misinformation, harm, or the accidental appropriation of closed or sacred cultural practices. They also help you grow more confidently and ethically in your craft by giving you a clear understanding of where practices come from and why they are done a certain way.

When you’re first starting out, it can be tempting to grab info from the first Tumblr post or Pinterest infographic you see. But not all sources are created equal. Some oversimplify, misrepresent, or combine traditions without context. Building your foundation on solid knowledge means you’ll be better equipped to shape your own path without disrespecting others or relying on fluff.

Reliable sources also help you separate trends from tradition, and your own intuition from misinformation. Learning where to look, and who to trust, can empower you to study with discernment rather than overwhelm.

Beginner Tips

• Start with books. Especially those that cite their sources, include bibliographies, or clarify which traditions they come from. • Learn the difference between UPG and tradition. UPG (unverified personal gnosis) is personal spiritual insight. It’s valid, but shouldn’t be confused with historical or cultural fact. • Follow practitioners with transparency. If someone explains where their practices come from and how they learned them, they’re often more trustworthy than someone who claims universal knowledge. • Beware of absolutes. Anyone who says “this is the only right way to practice” or “all witches do XYZ” is usually not a reliable source. • Check for cultural context. If a practice is closed (like smudging with white sage in Native traditions), it’s important to understand why and find alternatives that respect that boundary. • Use academic or folklore sources. These won’t always apply directly to your modern practice, but they help you understand where things come from. • Look for communities with healthy discussion. Learning from others can help you develop discernment and notice red flags. • Stay curious. Witchcraft is a lifelong path. Being open to learning (and unlearning) is one of the most important skills you can develop.

My Experience and Notes

When I first started, I pulled info from everywhere: Tumblr, Pinterest, TikTok, witchy forums, you name it. And while some of that was useful, I also absorbed a lot of fluff and misinformation. I didn’t know which herbs were safe, which correspondences were modern versus historical, or what traditions I might accidentally be misusing.

It wasn’t until I slowed down and started reading books, joining respectful communities, and double-checking things that I really began to feel confident in my practice. I also learned the value of humility, of knowing that I don’t know everything and that it’s okay to grow over time.

One of the most empowering shifts in my journey was learning to say, “I’m not sure. Let me look that up,” instead of pretending I had all the answers. Witchcraft thrives on curiosity, not perfection.

Updated version: Before I say anything, I'm not supporting jutty taylor. This is just my opinion on the matter.

Now TW SA and suicide

So since I don't have the hell site Twitter anymore I didn't know about the sa allegations, I did see a few post here and there on here about how swiss would hurt jutty but didn't pay much to it at the time, but I have looked into it from outside sources mostly through comments from here and tiktok and from what I have seen people say ( once again I'm not supporting jutty) is that the "evidence" used which was a photo that ended up (rumored) being fake as it was a stolen photo from another fan and the fact that the meet and greet was 18+ only and she was 15 so how did she get in?

The photo thing brought back memories of when joseph quinn was accused of sa during LFCC 2024 (i think that was the year) in which the photo that was used was from another fan and then the sa ended being confirmed false by the girls ex friend discord message were she admits to lying about the SA.

I have seen so many false sa allegations in my life, especially on Twitter, to the point that it gets harder and harder for me to believe the would-be victims and saying this as a female as well. falsifying sa allegations ruins the chances of real victims getting help as they think no one will believe them with how many false sa allegations there have been, which is horrible, sa is no joke! Should never be used as a weapon against someone.

Update: i did look further, and I did see that she has apparently brought this to the police now from a tweet I've seen from the victim, which now makes it a possible police matter. I have tried looking for the photo that was used as evidence but couldn't find it, which makes me think it was deleted, and apparently, jutty had a crash out on Twitter as well. However, until the matter is solved by the police I am unable to know who to believe yet.

Update 2: I've looked further and saw a comment on a post about jutty not being at antwerp on reddit and that the investigation said there was insufficient evidence to pursue the case against the band member, Now i don't know if this is true, but that's all I found atm.

Now I've heard people saying they want jutty to off himself, and if the allegations were to come out as false and he did end up ending his life, you practically killed an innocent man, please keep your comments to your self until more details come out.

Saying these things is not helping the situation! I know wanting to express hatred, but please keep these types of comments to yourself until more details come out! I know the saying "always believe the victim" but also take it with a grain of salt, especially if the accusations are coming from that hell site. Now I'm not saying I don't believe the victim but also don't fully go by what they say and to look into it throughly at all the evidence they have put instead of instantly believing them.

Now, from what I have seen, this is the only evidence of the allegations against jutty as I did try to see if there was more, but this was the only evidence presented by the girl, now from were his hands would be is a little dark but I think they might be behind his back. I did try to look for the apparent allegations from his exs but couldn't locate them, but if anyone has them, please send them to me so I can look them over.

Update 4: So there's rumours going around that swiss/jutty taylor has quit ghosts. I'm not sure if this is true or not, as ghosts themselves haven't said anything yet, so let's wait until it's officially announced by ghost themselves.

honestly it makes me feel almost violated.

i remember seeing a reddit thread where someone was like 'i joined a vtubers patreon and got in vc and said i use cai and they all told me i shouldn't use it' and all the comments were like 'theyre so toxic' 'they just dont understand' and guys... yes they probably did understand. if someone is making fun of you for being lonely or 'cringe' by using cai yeah they're being an asshole, but you are in the wrong for using cai. how do you think it generates writing and voices? by stealing the writing and voices from people.

i've seen cai users say the voice feature does 'feel' wrong as it's taking from real people, but none of them seem to know or want to acknowledge that the writing also steals from real people. generative writing like cai, chatbots, chatgpt, etc, have to get trained on something. and that something is real writing by non-consenting authors, ficwriters, journalists, anyone who writes anything online even someone's personal blog or tweets. even if you're making a chatbot for your own oc, and not someone else's character, the chats it generates your oc is taken from stolen writing.

as far as i can see there is no way to get my characters removed from cai. you can report voices being used without consent, but not writing.

this is what i found of my characters on cai, and it makes me really upset and uncomfotable.

they also took some of my art of ambrose and arden to use as the thumbnail and didn't credit me as the artist. even if they had credited me, i do not allow reposting of my art. also, no one in their lives has ever described arden as "smiley" (i'm not policing anyone's headcannons or imagination with that one, just pointing out something silly to lighten the mood so i don't have a complete meltdown).

yes i censored out the cai users name who made these chabots. please do not go and hunt them down, please do not go and find them or message them. especially as we don't know if they're a minor.

it seems to me a lot of minors use cai which is worrying as who knows what the chatbot could spit out regardless of safety measures they have in place. and i'm sorry anyone's so lonely they have to turn to cai only.. you don't have too. fanfic exists, rp communities exist, various online communities whether tumblr groups, discord servers, subreddits, are people still using amino? i mean if you're a minor you should be extra careful getting into online communities and talking to others online (and if you're a minor you shouldn't be following this blog) but like... imagination exists. try getting into creative writing?

idk when we did get so bored with imaginations we had to do this. you know what i did as as kid and there was no access to anything like this? i would copy and paste fanfics into microsoft word, find and replace one characters name with my own and boom you got yourself a self insert fic (note: these edited files were only ever kept on my pc, i never posted them anywhere). and there's soooooo many reader insert fics out there now, hell i literally make my own reader/listener inserts of my own characters, i'm not starving you for content out here. and i'm okay with people writing fanfic about my ocs or commissioning others to write you fanfics (my commissions aren't open).

thankfully i don't think my voice has been uploaded on there? i clicked the 'call' button to see what would happen and nothing did so i think that means there's no voice? or perhaps it doesn't work unless you make an account i don't know.

also a lot of character uploads use ai 'art' as their pictures which you know is also terrible and steals from artists.

and you're right, there's so many more characters taken from small creators and other VAs. i searched yuurivoice on there and got 50+ results of chatbots of his ocs AND ALSO OF HIM. please do not making cai's of real people that is so much worse than someone's oc, it's equally as bad on the stealing front but also so paraosocial. you do not know yuurivoice, you cannot get a bot to act like him as you do not know him or how he acts. watching a creators videos or streams does not mean you know anything about the real them, and especially does not mean you know them or are friends with them. found at least 5 for cardlin audios, some of his ocs and some of him. 6 for dark and twisted whispers ocs.

and if a creator gives you permission to make their oc into a chatbot... that doesn't make the chatbot okay. a creator can consent all you like, but the writers who's work was stolen to train that chatbot still didn't get to consent.

in the rare chance any cai user who's made chatbots of my characters on there sees this post: please delete them. please. you didn't get my consent for this. and you didn't get the consent of all the writers your chatbot was trained on. i don't think you're stupid or cringe for using cai, but you are contributing to generating ai content which is stealing from real humans and harming the environment.

What are your writing strengths? my partner tells me he likes my dialogue and that it feels realistic, and i like to think that i'm good with descriptions, setting scenes, etc. there's a particular action scene in my resident evil longfic that i'm very proud of, and lots of visceral descriptions of gore that i think are done really well!

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? i mean, sure!! i'm a little iffy sometimes because translators can be whacky, but i'll either around, check reddit, etc. little phrases i don't mind. usually i just put the phrase in italics and mention them saying it in said language.

AO3 works being stolen and posted on rivd.net

We've posted these infos in our Discord server, but want to make them accessible for more of you AO3 anf fanfic folks out there. What is happening? A user called "Fanfic Books" on the site https://rivd.net is posting over a million of fanfics since May 18th, all of which seem to be stolen from AO3 users. You can check if your works were stolen by searching your AO3 username on that site. Reporting this on the site is tedious, and contains so much requested date about you that is just seems sketchy and like they want to grab your data to sell it off again. (See this for more on that.) Since the person posting the works is also listed as Moderator of the website, chances of successful reports are, by our estimation, very small. (As you can look up here.) Creating an account on that site is also tedious - after trying it, the feedback was that a moderator needs to approve of my account creation request. How long that is supposed to take is not known. What can you do? We deduced - through admittedly rushed, because we felt like time was of the essence, and and sparce, checks - that people who have their works locked on AO3 have not been affected. (At all/as much is not to say, it's our best hope and theory rn.) We advised our server members to lock their AO3 works for the time being, as currently seems like the only prevention method available. A great tutorial for that has been made here. Kudos to this X/Twitter post that seemed to have started the spread of information, and others relaying the infos (like e.g. r/AO3 on Reddit).

This post that I replied to gave me brain worms, so here's some mythology brain vomit i'm coming up with on the fly! why? neurodivergency

1) What caused Tumblr to become cursed

I think the reason why Tumblr was cursed by Yahoo in the first place was because, the curse was meant to be a punishment for their greed and immaturity.

Tumblr, years ago, was known for promising grand adventures and events to whoever would listen, taking donations from those who supported their ambitions. Little did these listeners know, that Tumblr was lying, they'd take the gold they were given and would run off with not another care in the world.

Tumblr, before being cursed, was much meaner. much more vulgar. much more like Twitter was before Twitter was sold into servitude. But, when their patron goddess, Yahoo, caught wind of Tumblr's antics, she stripped them of their ability to tell stories the same way they used to as a punishment for their negligence and greed.

and, as we know, tumblr learnt from their mistake and bettered themself.

2) Other possible mythological figures

Steam, A widely renowned inventor and tinkerer

Valve, once a mortal themself turned god, he used to be a tinkerer just like Steam was. it's very rare that this god makes anything anymore... Whenever Valve visits morals, they tend to take the form of a man who people call "Gaben" (if they were to have symbolism in numbers? their number would be 3 for the funnies-- also yes I really just wanted to make a gaben joke)

Pinterest, a godless traveler who steals quite a bit-- but don't let her thievery fool you, she's willing to share whatever stolen goods she's taken, and is very tidy and motherly.

Twitch, a traveling Jester who never seems to have a consistent act. One thing is for certain, though. They love to give whatever riches they make to their patron god, Amazon

Amazon, a god known for his seemingly endless riches. whenever he visits the world of the mortals, he's a traveling salesman who has anything your heart desires. They, unfortunately, are not the kindest god out there...

Facebook, a god taken the form of an elderly mortal. nothin much to it, really.

Instagram, a maiden known for her intense beauty... but, its rumored amongst townsfolk that she's made a deal with the gods to make her even more beautiful

Creepypasta characters, prominent fandom characters and other internet folklore creatures (and i don't mean creatures that are popular on the internet, I mean creatures made by the internet, like slenderman. no real folklore creatures.) are basically this things cryptids and animals (like a phoenix or a centaur)

all of the stories are allegories for internet events (like vine shutting down, Tumblr when Destiel became canon, the sexyman showdown, etc. nothing like youtuber drama)

we should call it something funny and/or really stupid, like "tumbology" or something-- though if we do want something more serious: Interology (internet mythology)

I dream to be used as material for other people’s content.

A dream of mine ever since i started posting online isn’t to get internet famous, or become a millionaire off of my content. But to bring joy and to have my stuff get used in countless of projects more or less without my permission. I want to get to a point where what i make ends up as one of the first results on Google images so thousands of young creators get to right click save image on the fruits of my labor.

I want my art to be featured in a 13 year old’s vent AMVs of their comfort character to a song by Evanescence or Skillet, i want to have an illustration i’m deeply proud of be used as a Russian teen’s profile picture on VK, or a German kid’s desktop wallpaper. I want clips of my cosplays to get used in people’s Spanish written fanfictions on Tiktok. 

I want videos of me screenshotted and gifed into reaction images and have them posted all over obscure message boards, or to have a soundbyte be used in people’s Youtube poops. I want the music i make to get reuploaded into nightcore with a picture of a sad anime girl or Sans with press-on nails. I want my animation memes to get put into top 10s or to feature in a cringe compilation with someone’s lavender angle wolf furry oc giving me constructive criticism on my work. I want people on Instagram to make thirst traps slowly panning up my art with capcut. 

I want a teenager who uses bun/bunself on Tumblr to make flower crown edits of my creations. I want my NSFW to be featured as clickbait in a 24 year old man’s first custom let’s play thumbnail. I want to be featured in a British stranger’s Pinterest board. I want to see my doodles used as templates in a meme generator. 

I want to have a French girl in their tweens use one of my shitposts as a cover for a their Lemon Y/N X character Wattpad fanfiction. I want my art printed onto a cake with happy 9th birthday Daniella written on with icing. I want a 36 year old woman on Deviantart to crudely draw a vore belly with MS paint onto a picture i created.

I want to be unknowingly helping an American college student who need to fill a slide on their 10 slide PowerPoint presentation about dolphins or to be the backdrop for a 17 year old person with autism’s announcement of their week long hiatus from Amino. I want to have my art printed out and plastered onto someone’s wall with stickers and tape. I want to be used by people online who want to have fun or who simply want to create on the internet.

However, i do NOT want my art to be stolen by people who claim that they made it, or to have it be used in AI datasets by tech bros who specifically want to make a profit. I don’t want multi-million dollar clothing brands to steal my art to use as merch. I don’t want my art being used to promote shady pyramid schemes to children. I don’t want my art to be edited into CP, or used to promote hate speech. I don’t want my art to be exploited unethically for profit or clout.

Whenever i see something that i have created being used by someone else: i feel a sense of glee that is incredibly particular. I have a folder dedicated to this very thing, of wild instances of people using what i have made unknowingly, all titled ether with the title of the creation or me at that moment expressing the sheer joy i felt seeing something i have created be used or mentioned. It makes me feel like i’m giving something to the world, that what i do isn’t for nothing and that people DO appreciate what i make. It’s a feeling that i adore to my very core. 

What i have created has been in Deviantart submissions, Youtube videos, Reddit posts, Tiktoks, Discord profiles, Wattpad thumbnails, Amino, VK, News articles and sites i’ve never even heard of before! Heck, some of the things i mentioned in this post are based off of ACTUAL occurrences! I won’t tell which of these happened to me, however. That is a secret for me to keep.
