Our next order of paleognath birds are the Apterygiformes, commonly called “kiwi”. Apterygiformes contains one living family, Apterygidae, with all five living species falling under one genus: Apteryx.

Kiwis are the smallest flightless paleognaths, about the size of a Domestic Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). They have tiny, vestigial wings and wing-claws that are almost invisible under their bristly, hair-like feathers. Their bill is long, pliable and sensitive to touch. Kiwi eyes are the smallest, relative to body mass, in all birds, resulting in the smallest visual field as well. Their eyes have some specialisations for their nocturnal lifestyle, but kiwi rely more heavily on their other senses. They have long, sensitive rictal bristles on their face that are similar to whiskers, detecting tactile sensations. Unusual for birds, kiwis have a highly developed sense of smell, and are the only birds with nostrils at the end of their long beaks. Kiwi eat small invertebrates, seeds, grubs, and many varieties of worms. They may also eat fruit, small crayfish, eels, and amphibians. Because their nostrils are located at the end of their beaks, kiwi can locate insects and worms underground using their keen sense of smell, without actually seeing or feeling them. Kiwi are native only to New Zealand.

Kiwis form monogamous pairs, though they do not spend all their time together. During the mating season, the pair will call to each other at night, and meet in the nesting burrow every three days. These relationships may last for up to 20 years. Kiwi females carry and lay a single egg that may weigh as much as 450 g (16 oz), up to 1/4 the weight of the female, the largest of any egg in relation to its mother. Producing the huge egg places significant physiological stress on the female. For the thirty days it takes to grow the fully developed egg, the female must eat three times her normal amount of food. Two to three days before the egg is laid there is little space left inside the female for her stomach and she is forced to fast. Some species can lay up to 5 eggs in a single clutch, but most just lay 1 or 2. Kiwi eggs are smooth in texture, and are ivory or greenish white. Once laid, the male incubates the egg(s), except for the Great Spotted Kiwi, (Apteryx maxima) (image 3), in which both parents are involved. Males may leave the nest to forage for hours, during which they cover the egg(s) with dirt and leaf litter. Once a chick hatches, it consumes the remaining highly nutritious shell and egg contents. After hatching, chicks usually do not receive further parental care, as they are born precocious with near full senses and mobility. Chicks generally leave the nest within ten days of hatching and remain in their parent's territory, foraging and nesting independently, until they are large enough to establish their own territory.

Apterygiformes arose in the Miocene. One extinct Miocene species, Proapteryx micromeros, was smaller and probably capable of flight, suggesting that kiwis secondarily lost their ability to fly after their ancestors flew to New Zealand.

The kiwi's mostly nocturnal habits may be a result of habitat intrusion by invasive predators and humans. In areas of New Zealand where introduced predators have been removed, such as sanctuaries, kiwi are often seen in daylight.

The Māori traditionally believed that kiwi were under the protection of Tāne Mahuta, god of the forest. They were used as food and their feathers were used for kahu kiwi ceremonial cloaks. Today, while kiwi feathers are still used, they are gathered from birds that die naturally, through road accidents, or predation, and from captive birds. In most American and European zoos that keep kiwis, any shed kiwi feathers, and the kiwis themselves when they pass away, are shipped back to New Zealand to be utilized and buried by the Māori. Kiwi are no longer hunted and Māori consider themselves the birds' guardians.

+ sunghoon is such an interesting character; he's this unique mix between an immensely passionate guy with high amounts of ambition and drive in him, as well as someone genuinely chill and laidback. although he's no doubtedly a person blessed with an incredibly independent nature, who in no way shape or form lacks strong objectives for his own life; he isn't necessarily the type to be interested in rubbing his appetite for success and validation in anyone's face, be all obnoxious and annoying about it, or rudely step on anyone's toes in order to get what he wants. he's someone who usually remains pleasantly modest, despite his clear desire and hunger for achievement, success and recognition. i do believe he's a person who proves that being self-focused does not necessarily have to translate to them being insensitive to the people around them.

sunghoon is blessed with an empathetic and understanding nature, that makes the people around him feel comfortable and at ease. he's someone who's excellent at attuning himself and his demeanour to the people around him, possessing this natural gift of sensitivity and consideration towards others. i heard “예의” which translates to ”manners”.

sunghoon is the type of guy to think “if you don't have anything nice to say, just shut up.” someone who's fond of harmony, and hateful of negative energy and conflict. he doesn't have a fragile ego that makes him feel the need to defend or justify himself at every given chance. he's just chill, and seems to have this appropriate and healthy amount of confidence and trust in himself, which prevents him from feeling the need to belittle other people in order to feel like the bigger guy. in contrast, he's someone who will uplift people and encourage them to see the glass half full instead of half empty, in a genuine manner, as well as feel fulfilled if he ended up having a positive impact on someone.

he seems to have well-established manners and a level head on his shoulders, and sees being polite and courteous to the people around him like an understandable and natural thing. he doesn't like disturbing a serene environment, and moreso seeks and fosters peace. he usually isn't the type to just recklessly go on a whim and be all “screw all of you, i will do what i want” the majority of the time, he's discreet and careful in his behavior. (he's very much giving venus-ruled to me)

another insight i literally get everytime i read for sunghoon; he's a great listener. someone willing to sit down with you if you need a second, and quietly listen to you talk to your hearts content. when i tell you, if sunghoon cares about you (which is moreso reserved for the special people in his life, usually he just lets people be), the man will sincerely care about you.

albeit, spirit does want me to talk about how the man isn't all flawless and perfect all the time; sunghoon does seem to have his moments where he can get these sudden shifts in energy and say things that come off strong in the heat of the moment, potentially making him offend sensitive people and appear “meaner” than he actually is.

however, he's also the type to feel the desire to redeem himself if he feels like he hurt you. let's say he made an insensitive joke to you in the flow of the moment; it's highly likely for him to feel genuinely sorry about it in retrospect, and perhaps follow it up with a compliment to even things out and make you feel better again. i do think he can blame himself much more than what meets the eye, and easily feels plenty of regret about his occasionally impulsive behavior. (as a fellow sag mercury with the natural talent to accidentally offend people but a harmony-loving libra mars, i relate to this sooo bad lol)

- sunghoon can deal with much more negavity inside of him than you'd think, but rarely grants his pent up frustrations, disappointments, regrets or grudges a healthy outlet. he doesn't enjoy the intensity of his mind, and can often prefer either brushing personal and heavy topics off or glossing over them, because he doesn't like to lay his soul bare in that manner. he's a very complex guy in fact, but most people wouldn't know. he doesn't grant them the chance to even go there in the first place. he prefers staying lighthearted, easygoing and more superficial with most people.

he can easily feel inclined to believe that his own problems aren't anyone else's burdens to carry, and seems very used to just dealing with his issues on his own. for this reason, he can have the tendency to be kinda “meh” about other people as well, if they're not very close to him. like “i just don't need you to care about my business, so please don't expect me to”

good luck trying to have sunghoon admit he needs someone's help; he simply won't. example, let's say he's clearly having a difficult time and seems upset; he just won't like you trying to get him to talk about what's wrong if he already brushed the subject aside. the further you try to push him or dig, the more defensive and annoyed he'd probably get.

i do see him being immensely protective over keeping his own inner peace intact. if sunghoon wants to be alone; just.. leave him alone. best believe, he will not like you disturbing him.

i don't think sunghoon ever truly heals from his wounds, in both; emotional or physical pain. i see him struggling a lot to let himself rest and take a break. he's prone to continuously pushing himself over the edge, all the time. he never feels like it's enough and can have problems setting boundaries for himself in this regard.

in physical terms, he's prone to ignoring signs of bodily discomfort or pain and pushing through it till the very end. (very mars in scorpio..)

in emotional terms, rather than actively confronting his feelings and working on processing them, he has the tendency to either bury himself in work, isolate himself, or find other ways to keep busy, in order to distract and escape the overwhelming turbulance inside of him. i can see this resulting in a lot of unprocessed, stalled and rationalized emotions.

he doesn't always express his distaste, and seldomly brings up the way he genuinely feels about certain things, because he sincerely doesn't like to cause conflict; just for his pent up frustration to come out bubbling like lava once you manage to actually provoke or trigger him.

i absolutely see sunghoon having a darker and scarier side. although it usually only comes out once he feels threatened in a way; i can see it being very jarring to some people, since he normally gives off such an agreeable vibe to everyone. like fool him once, fool him twice (although he's more the type to play fool instead of actually being fooled) it's unlikely he'll play anyone's game a third time. you will see a different side to the usually kind, laidback and peaceful man you've known till now if you manage to push his buttons deep enough.

...wait what?

I'll get to the fish part dw. Every design detail the Team has made was completely intentional, whether they knew it at the time or not. The simple glowing symbols of the black goo explain narrative themes, why 4 is the goo's host, as well as other things. Out of all the ones here, the swirl was the most convoluted symbol I had to deal with. Let's start with the obvious meaning of these spirals:

Hypnotism — obviously, it's 4 being possessed by the keyboard itself. But it can also mean in a different sense, 4 is being lured to the idea of the perfect video. And yes, while he was possessed for the most part, he was still in there. (and you can interpret it by how the spiral isn't exactly fully drawn.)

Creativity and Imperfections — I think we are very much aware of how 4 is an artist, aside from being a content creator. Y'know how (mostly traditional) artists struggle to make a perfect circle first try. The truth is, no one can. Even with the best-looking circle, it'll never be perfect. So think of these spirals as harsh "attempts" to make a circle, for 4 trying to be perfect. But in the end, there is no such thing as perfection, which fits with the movie themes.

Well, that's what I have at least, the most concrete. As for the rest, it's going to sound insane but I promise that it works. Buckle up and put on your tinfoil hats for this one. Ok so, hear me out: astrology

You should know anything about me is that I have this giant book of semiology, the study of symbols and their significance in human affairs. During my research, I've seen two zodiacs that resemble a lot like the spiral:

Cancer ♋️

Obviously, one half of its symbol looks similar to the spiral, but its zodiac personality fits 4 and IGBP in some way. to quote:

"Nurturing and loyal, Cancers are also protective of their loved ones. While reserved, they stand on a foundation of strength – and aren't afraid to act when they feel it's necessary. Cancers are also known to be an emotional — and moody — sign....Cancers take pride in their work — and more than a little part of them wants to be the best at it. They are motivated to work hard not only because of personal satisfaction, but so they can support their loved ones. In the sign, [the crab] translates to creative, artistic and intuitive minds, with the power of (sometimes psychic) perception."

While Cancer was pretty solid, it wasn't what caught my attention.

Pisces ♓️

Ofc the symbol itself has no spiral but for its constellation form, there are a lot of depictions have 2 fish circling each other, similar to the yin-yang symbol. (Now, in the goop!4 theory itself, "two sides of the same coin" is a big part when talking about character/narrative parallels. 4 and Mr Puzzles, 4 and 3. While they may act upon similar hopes/dreams, they are different people too.) Sometimes, it's only depicted as one fish.

It might be a stretch to say this spiral is a VERY simplified version of the fish's form but the zodiac significance is quite interesting, quote:

"Pisces are highly creative and imaginative as well as compassionate and loving. Their emotional sensitivity factor is high, helping them to remain in tune with others but also leaving them vulnerable to criticism, worrying a lot about the effect that their actions might have on others. They sometimes put their own needs on the back burner to make sure others are happy. Their intuition helps them guide others often effortlessly. They can also be self-deprecating, which can cause them to underestimate their worth. It may take a lot of work from their friends and family members to convince them they deserve respect and care."

Now, doesn't that sound familiar? That's literally 4 in IGBP, and even beyond that if you think about it. A lot more fitting than what Cancer had.

This might be nice and all, but is it actually proof?

It can, if we correlate the zodiac to a specific date. Yes, we're going to calculate the stars on this one, and it's a good thing yours truly is an astronomy girly to have planetarium software.

Now, for this to work, you have to be very precise on location and time (to its very second). Everyone has a different view of the constellations and stars shift over the years. So, it won't be easy to take any date related to SMG4, such as Luke's birthday, and plug it in. But one date did work:

May 8 of 2011 at 03:15:19 UTC (Sydney, Australia)

Do Time Lords have any kind of martial arts training?

The Time Lord Academy does not formally teach martial arts. In fact, Time Tots are actively taught Detachment and Physical Inactivity as part of the curriculum. Violence is viewed as uncivilised, sweaty, and extremely off-brand.

They're not even that into sports. The closest thing to sports at the Academy is Zero-Grav Hyperball (which students are more likely to play in their off hours) and also the Time Academy Sprint Championships. That's it.

How easy is it for Time Lords to learn human fighting techniques?

Dangerously easy. Despite the cultural aversion to physicality, Gallifreyans are biologically hardwired to excel at movement-based disciplines, including martial arts. Here's why:

🧠Enhanced Cerebellum: Their brains are wired for perfect balance and coordination. No seasickness, no vertigo.

👽10x Faster Reflexes: Time Lords can react ten times faster than humans.

⏲️Chronopsionic Reactions: If they're concentrating, some can even sense attacks before they happen via psionic/time sensitivity.

🗡️Tool/Weapon Mastery: Their dexterity makes them natural quick learners of human weapons and techniques—everything from knives to nunchucks to knitting needles.

Venusian Aikido (non-lethal, precision-based) can be learned to a highly proficient degree.

Other Time Lords, especially agents of the CIA, may receive extracurricular combat training as needed.

Any Time Lord spending time off Gallifrey could pick up human fighting styles within hours.

Time Lords don't teach martial arts at home because they think they're above that kind of thing, but biologically, they're terrifyingly good at it, so maybe it's for the best.

A highly concerning problem

I would appreciate if you could all hear me out to the end on this one, as I unfortunately feel the feathers this will ruffle are the ones who need to hear it most. (There is a TLDR at the bottom if you would like)

I’m afraid this fandom has a growing problem with sexually explicit content regarding minors. The main cast of this story are all children, save Chris, and yet I have seen posts, art, and fanfics about these MINORS having kinky sex and illustrations of them engaging in bdsm-related content. This is disgusting and illegal. There has also been a lot of labelling of these characters as ‘whores’ and ‘sluts’ which is not illegal, but in my opinion is very very strange.

“Why do you care, just click away”

“It’s just internet fan content, it’s not a big deal”

I would hope morals alone would deter people from doing something so obviously creepy, but here are some other reasons this is dangerous:

This fandom is full of minors, and when they see this glorification of sex and drugs while under age, it normalises it for them. This could potentially lead to them ending up in dangerous situations because they have become blind to the reality of their situation. They could end up scarred for life, and if you think I’m overreacting, this process has probably already happened to you.

Minors are not the only ones who will see this type of art. Posting this is providing a certain demographic with content that they should not have access to. It also draws them to, again, a fandom filled with Minors. 

Some people (myself included) do not want to see this content and exposure to it may cause adverse effects. I came to this fandom because I wanted to talk about silly teenagers with superpowers based off a skeleton from a 2015 video game. I did not want to see to creeps discussing kinky sex fantasies with minors. 

“Lots of TV shows have this kind of content, why don’t you complain about that?”

I do. The key difference here is that this fandom glamourises child porn and inappropriate relations between children and also minors and adults. Most shows that grapple with this topic point out how bad this is and it’s very real adverse effects on people, and if they don’t they’re usually called out for it. As an additional point, most shows that tackle this are usually 18+.

“I’m a teenager, and I have these feelings.”

Again, you’re not the only person seeing this content. Non-teens with questionable motives will see it too. Also yes, I get it, most teens will want to explore the topic of sexuality. However if you must be rampantly horny, please channel it through adult characters and share it in communities of people who have volunteered to see such topics. 

As an aside, and I feel that this may offend some people but I do want to highlight it, I would like to point out that Chris is an adult and Nevin is a minor. I have heard some say that ‘Nevin is almost 16’, but I would like to refute that with two points:

16 is still a minor.

Nevin is not real, he doesn’t age on a day-by-day basis like we do. He cannot be ‘almost’ 16, it doesn’t work like that. He is a child until the author says otherwise.

Sure, a relationship with Chris wouldn’t be illegal, but the maturity gap between those age groups is dangerous if normalised in real life. I don’t know any 18 year olds without alterior motives who would date a 15 year old. 

I would like to say that I have nothing against shipping the characters, just posting explicit material of them. 

TLDR; Posting sexually explicit content of minors is illegal, normalises dangerous activities in the impressionable young minds of other teens, provides Pedos with free content and draws them to this fandom. Also most people didn’t ask to see that type of stuff, we just want to look at fanart of our favourite characters, so please keep it to specific communities.

alright, so i've seen a couple posts similar to this but i wanted to add some things:

if you are coming to/back to tumblr from tiktok, welcome! here are a few things that will help you get started:

1) when setting up your profile, make sure to set a pfp and banner so you look less like a bot. people don't typically show thier face here and anomyinity is encouraged, so it can be of whatever. you can also hide your likes in settings - most tumblr users do

2) you can turn on timestamps in settings. if nothing else i highly recommend turning on timestamps, or you'll be missing a lot of context on your dash (i could not tell you why timestamps are off by default.)

3) tumblr doesn't have an algorythim - it just shows posts from ppl you follow in chronological order, so likes are used moreso as a wave to a friend or a hug than to help spread the post. if you want to help spread the post you reblog it, and if a mutual is ranting about an irritating coworker you give it a like. some people also use their likes as a sort of saved posts folder

"but i see a tab that says 'for you'?" you may be saying. and yeah, that exists, but it doesn't work very well, so most users ignore it

4) Make sure to tag things correctly. Putting unrelated tags on a post won't help more people see it - you'll just end up irritating people who go to #dogs and your parrot is there instead. Tags also help people avoid triggers and topics that they don't like, so it's important to tag sensitive topics acurately since words like "kill" and "suicide" are allowed here. dodging the word itself by adding numbers or misspelling it only hurts people who find it upsetting

the only big topic that's not allowed here is (notoriously) NSFW content. you'll still see it a lot from bot accounts, ane text based NSFW is fine if tagged correctly. Illustrated NSFW sometimes makes it past the filter if artists are creative with it

5) Block tags! This is useful for mental health reasons, but also, is there a new show you haven't seen yet and you want to avoid spoilers? You can add tags to your filtered list in settings and take them out after you watch the show. Following someone who's now obsessed with a movie have no interest in but don't want to unfollow them? Just block the related tags. Love scrolling through a tag for a show you like but hate a popular ship? Block the ship tag(s)

6) every post here has a comment section, and a reblog section (unless OP turned them off). I often use the comments to talk in posts if it's a more private conversation (IE the annoying coworker example from earlier), but most talking will happen in the tags. When you reblog a post, the person you reblogged from will get a notification as well as the original poster, so you can use this to chat to the previous blogger (prev) and/or to talk to OP. I'll put some talk-y tags on here so you have an example of what that might look like (Also you can't put commas in tags. Spaces are fine but no commas. Why? great question)

7) you can also add to the main post when you reblog something. typically people do this if they have something signifigant to add to the conversation, as opposed to talking about TV characters the post reminds you of or saying smth along the lines of #same

8) you can get to the original post from a reblog chain by clicking where the date of posting is. the date will be off by default for some reason, like i said earlier. clicking this is useful if you want to read OP's tags or if you want to remove additions to the bottom of a post and reblog the original thing

Hybrid Au, my beloved!!! owo I tend to go heavier with the animal research/xeno than just "ears and tails", but yes, I absolutely have thoughts— here's a handful of my favorites/who comes to mind!

Kaidou — Auroch bull: The now-extinct relative of modern cattle, closely related to Spanish fighting bulls. Bull feels fitting for Kaidou, I think— they're huge, potentially dangerous animals that get screwed over in blood sports or as slaughterhouse bait, and near-universally seen as aggressive because of instincts that are based in self-preservation or protecting a herd. And of course, ending up as a bull hybrid is just what happens to my favs, by now... (@senjuushi)

Judge — Tawny eagle: His "Garuda" theme implies a bird of prey from the start, so it's an easy pick! Described as "opportunistic", with a habit of feeding on carrion (and stealing other animals' prey), yet still "a bold and active predator", tawny eagles fit well with Judge's vibe of regal, pompous, and trying way too hard. They also tend to mate for life... and male birds are known for flashy courtship habits. Reiju, Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji would be the same species for this Au.

Sanji — Mourning dove: Keeping with the bird theme of his family, but a far less bloodthirsty species. Mourning doves are fluffy, vocal birds that are known for being "prolific breeders". They can be territorial between males, but are also social pair-bonders. Sora would have been a dove too, and Sanji sharing her species is just one more sign that the modifications failed. There's also something very fitting about a "caged bird" theme for his experiences with Germa.

Spandam — Giant panda: Useless animal that would be extinct by now without human intervention. Clumsy, pathetic, and admittedly pretty cute, but not good for much other than existing under careful supervision in a zoo. Of course, Spandam's terrible personality ruins most of the cuteness effect his hybrid species might have— ultimately, he's a needy, spoiled idiot who's eternally dependent on the care of others. And personally, I think he should have a cute, sensitive little stubby tail, perfect to yank on when he's being a brat.

Katakuri — Grizzly bear: Linlin is a grizzly hybrid as well, and the shared species adds to Katakuri's reputation as her "perfect" son. He's huge, powerful, and highly threatening... but would be just as content to gorge himself on snacks and all but hibernate afterward. If it wasn't for his self-imposed standard of perfection, that is. His fucked-up mouth seems even worse on a large predator species, too, which definitely adds to his complex/self-consciousness over it.

Perospero — Red fox: I saw a fanart of him as a fox hybrid on Pixiv, and it convinced me. A smug, sneaky bastard who takes after his mother's carnivore tendencies, but with far less of an intimidation factor to back it up. Annoyingly talkative and far more socially oriented than he wants to admit, as well as capable of being an absolute nuisance when he wants to— all of that sounds very fitting for Peros, I think. And fox whining noises fit his crybaby side.

Cracker — Bushy-tailed woodrat: Prey animals that are described as "vocal and boisterous", and nuisances for "creating general noisy havoc"— seems appropriate for Cracker, an overconfident brat who's far less tough than he acts. Packrats (the overall category) are nest-builders, too, which fits with how he spends so much time hiding in his biscuit soldiers to avoid direct combat. Woodrats also apparently have a foot-thumping tendency; a good match for his clapping!

Pudding — British longhair cat: Babygirl-looking murder machine seems highly appropriate. British longhairs have the sweetest little faces and soft coats, but cats are nature's finest serial killers at their core. Pudding would be perfect as a needy, jealousy-prone kitty who's way too good at playing up the cutesy kitten act to get on people's good sides— right up until a tsundere moment kicks in. Then, she's all puffed-up, twitching tail and poorly stifled purring.

Caesar — Axolotl: Like his pet poison slime thing! Axolotls are apparently "used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate limbs, gills, and parts of their eyes and brains", which feels fitting for Caesar, as does the fact that they're tricky to take care of as pets (and keep getting put in cages by people who don't treat them well, at that). Also, those feathery external gills are cute!!

Queen — American alligator: Lethal fat fuck of a reptile, exactly how Queen should be! Alligators can be lazy and kind of goofy-looking, but they're still dangerous and very strong. The huge, thick tail is also an obvious plus (the "Brachio-Snakeus" trick haunts me). And really, can't you see him sprawled out all lazy, for gator-style sunbathing?

Drake — Rottweiler/Border Collie mix: A strong, intelligent, capable, and work-oriented animal, that would (as a dog-experienced friend put it), "tear a house down to the foundation" if left without enough to occupy it. Drake gives me "beaten dog" vibes, in general, and it feels fitting that his hybrid species could easily have been sweet, if not for the trauma and DEEP psychological issues.

Law — Shorthaired silver tabby: Law is so very catboy-coded. He's a grumpy, fussy kitty who will both claw your arm open if you try to touch him, and could just as easily be reduced to a purring puddle if his guard gets torn down enough to allow it. Cats are highly effective agents of violence (and can be total bastards, when they want to), but also absolute babies. And imagine tiny, angry catboy Law getting scruffed by Rocinante to prevent the aforementioned clawing.
