I want to share a fun thing I used to do when DMing that I haven't thought about in a minute

so, when the PCs went to sleep, they would occasionally be dealing with visions from their gods/patrons/enemies, experiencing terrifying dream flashbacks, or being sent arcane clues etc etc and I had a different music theme for each one, which the group picked up on after a bit, so if [x] god was showing up in a dream sequence, their theme came on and everyone went "OH MY GOD IT'S [x]!"

the thing is, most nights there would be no cryptic messages at all, and I would just use the Final Fantasy "going to sleep" jingle to signify a long rest

using music as a cue, it became very fun to leave a few hanging seconds when the characters settled in for their long rest, and I could hear the players going "oh no what's it gonna be what's gonna play..." and their palpable relief when it was just the Final Fantasy jingle, versus the outburst of "OH NO IT'S [x]" if I played a theme

it was extra rewarding on the very rare nights where more than one character had a vision, so the first sequence would end, everyone relaxed for what they were sure would be the jingle, and then "OH NO IT'S [y]!!??"

I'm a strong proponent of the fact not every group is a good group for music, but it worked out really well here and this is a particular thing I remember fondly

something i genuinely will always love about fig's character is that she will always stand up for the outcasts or people who aren't considered "cool". like without even missing a beat fig immediately goes to play twister with mazey because ivy wanted to put her down for even suggesting it. it genuinely is one of the best parts of her character and i adore it so much.

i remember when elementary first came out and bbc sherlock fans were saying elementary's sherlock was OOC becuz he wasn't an asshole just becuz he was compassionate to victims and people suffering hard circumstances

putting the claims of OOC-ness aside, but it's clear they actually didn't watch or didn't pay attention becuz elementary's sherlock is absolutely an asshole. he is arrogant and entitled and rude and aggressive to people who impede his investigations even if they are also victims and hostile to his brother for no discernible reason

the difference from bbc's sherlock is that elementary's sherlock actually has consequences for this behavior. it strains his relationships, it gets him fired from his job, it gets him into legal trouble, it hinders his investigations, it gets his friend shot

we're used to modern adaptions of sherlock prancing around being callous and inconsiderate to everyone around him and ppl grudgingly putting up with it becuz, well, he's an eccentric genius what can you do

elementary's sherlock is compassionate to people who've suffered becuz he knows what it's like to suffer, but he's also an unmitigated asshole, he just doesn't get a free pass on it

A Tiktok goes up on Eddie’s account that’s shot at an awkward angle like he’d originally set it up for a different reason but got distracted. The tone of Eddie’s voice clearly shows he’s teasing when Steve cuts him off.

Steve: Eddie, stop. Tommy never had a crush on me

Eddie: Baby, I hate to break it to you, but everybody who has ever met you has had at least a little bit of a crush on you

Steve: No. that’s not-

Tommy: Steve, I was in love with you

Steve: What, no?? No. You loved Carol.

Tommy: Yeah, I still love Carol but I was in love with you for years. Carol was too.

Tommy: You broke both our hearts when you left us for Wheeler

Steve:

Tommy: Seriously, you never knew? That wasn’t an act for social media? Did you think that we took all of our friends on dates?

Steve: That wasn’t - we were just…

Tommy: No one jokes that often about having a threesome without kinda meaning it

Steve: I - that… *slowly morphs into that surprise pikachu meme*

my mom used our old spice rack like it was a roulette wheel. she'd spin the rack, grab a jar, give a sniff, and if it appeased her, she'd start sprinkling until i can only assume god or ancestors made her stop. she would repeat the process until she got bored.

i know this was her method bc whenever we'd compliment dinner, she'd go, "yeah, i wish i knew what i put in it this time!"
