Do you have any headcanons for an Elain book whether it be about her friends Nuala and Cerriwden her most likely love interest Azriel or her healing her bond with Feyre. How do you think she will develop her powers and her potential role as a spy since there a lot of hints in the previous books that she is very observant.

Hey, anon! Thanks for this ask, I'll put a little pause on the semi-retirement era for this. (warning that this post get progressively more SJM critical lmao)

I absolutely want to see the way Elain has been mending her relationship with Feyre and to see how she is settling into the Night Court. They both deserve that healing, especially since the two of them will actually talk about it and conversations won't continuously be interupted and then never picked back up. I imagine Feyre taking Elain out in Velaris; getting coffee or tea, stopping by some clothing shops, Elain with her quiet watching taking mental notes of what Feyre loves but doesn't get so she can gift them to Feyre later. Feyre treating Elain at a florist and beaming and laughing when Elain basically takes over and spends time helping customers because she is having so much fun with the flowers while the shop owner watches.

I would also love to see the relationship between Elain and Nuala and Cerriwden. I am hoping they are not written in as some sort of plot device to further Elain's 'healing' while not having depth as individual characters. SJM has lost the ability to give side characters any form of substance that makes them feel real or worth reading about- the twins were interesting with what little we got from the early books. But, again, SJM's interest seems to lie more in horniness and sex (and being a mean girl) post ACOFAS and all the books after have been huge in terms of words written, but empty because those words don't hold much meaning or emotional weight.

I was so happy to see that Elain had stood up for herself to N.sta and didn't back down and revert back to that meek girl she was the moment N.sta turned on her with nasty behavior. I think that is a huge sign of the strength Elain has and has always had- she just needed to realize the potential within herself. I would really love to see Elain's thought process on this and... well, her healing in general.

I want to see the way Elain has been healing (having sex and being constantly horny and mean isn't healing, romantic relationships/mating bonds are not a fix all and you need to actually address emotions and feelings internally and externally to heal) and processing her emotions. I really, really want to see her processing emotionally. I have said we haven’t had anything super deep or meaningful since ACOFAS, but I would maybe even dare say since ACOWAR, but I really hope that we get to see this in Elain because her emotions and love is what makes her so strong.

Feyre mentioned Elain's heart being her biggest strength as well, that the world had been so ugly and so cruel to their family, yet Elain did not let it take away her softness nor her love and sympathy. Those attributes are what make Elain so unique when it comes to "strong FMCs". And, it's what makes her to be so increadibly lethal.

Elain has been greatly underestimated by everyone around her, including herself. Except now Feyre and maybe Rhys can see the truth. The only one who will not doubt her at all will be Azriel (who, yes, is her end game... if SJM decides to not fuck the series and retcon everything she's been writing buuuut...).

Azriel recognizes Elain's silent observations, her careful movements, and that mask she puts on as she kind, shy girl. I think only he can fully see how much potential she has and he has seen it from the very second he laid eyes on her- it is absolutely one of the things that drew him to her, to love her. He sees how similar they are, and how much more similar they could be (in terms of things like combat and other skills). He sees how they can work as not only a team, but a couple. He is going to get to a point where he could even see how they could be as a family, once he really begins growing into those feelings of self worth and realizes that Elain wants him just as much as he wants her.

All of this is pretty bare minimum expectations, but I already know SJM is not going to deliver and only disappoint. Considering the smut-ification of romance books paired with the way SJM's writing has gotten progressively worse with everything she has released post ACOFAS, I do not have much hope for much (if any) quality, meaningful content in Elain's book.

I also need to add that smut in books is fine and I definitely read my fair share of them. The problem at hand is that ACOTAR did not start out as a booktok horny smut series, so SJM turning into a smut booktok author with THIS series is absolutely damaging the meaning of it all. I mean, I DNF'd ACOFAS (yes, ACOFAS, not ACOSF) like four times because of the level of horniness in it. Eliminating the emotional depth of characters, the emotional intimacy between couples, and the familial and platonic love and dynamics of characters down so much that the most memorable and quoted moments in a book are "horny" and "sex" is cringe and disappointing in the most derogatory and offensive way possible.

Another thing I will add is that all of this started with TOG. Yes, there was horniness and sex, but a reasonable amount. TOG so clearly was focused on the story, the emotions, the triumphs, and the actual hard work it went into healing yourself and protecting the world. There was substance. So, really, this entire world was built on and started with real, actual, deep meaningful characters and emotions and events. Now everything is hollow and cheap and far too easily resolved because too much page time needs to be reserved for shit that doesn't actually have relevancy.

Hello! Oh my god thank you so much for this ask! I have been meaning to get back to my Felix fics, but my hyperfixations have been all over the place and I have more or less been waiting for it to circle back around to Felix.

I do plan on finishing Family of Ruins and I have been slowly doing a total rework on Facing Your Fate. But with FoR, I need to sit down and actually map out the direction of the story and have a plan. I had initially just been writing chapter by chapter but it isn't feasible for me to do that. I need a game plan.

Getting asks like these and comments on my AO3 definitely help motivate me to return to my stories because it means I have readers who care. So again, anon, thank you so much for this ask! I have my whole day free tomorrow so I think I will start mapping out FoR and try to keep writing :)

bit of extra clarification here: (a) they didn't know that the pronouns were exclusive until they were told, nor did they know the history until we explained it; and (b) we just kinda pretended to agree on the server because it was basically the only plural-centric server we were in and we'd just had to leave another plural server just a couple days prior at max (for other bigotry-related reasons) and didn't want to have to lose both at once, and everybody else was agreeing with the owner of the server. we also just hate confrontation hence why we're on anonymous on an ask blog they'll probably never see unless they decide to go through intersex tags for some reason lol

Personally I would understand if Penelope doesn’t actually show up in Hades 2, there’s so much going on in the game already, buuuut if she was there….

I think there’s a lot of fun metaphor in unraveling the day’s weavings as a form of turning back the clock, hence “Witch of Unwinding”. Penelope isn’t referred to as a witch in any myths that I know of, but for various reasons I think it’s a fun change.

And yes, I feel like so many vile ideas get pushed by the people who cannot understand that you need to be critical. It isn't "include everyone in everything forever or your exclusionist".. that is being a rad queer. They are using rad queer logic there.

And yea no definitely you had every right to call them out on it. Some people only wanna 'care' about issues for the show. I guarantee you if they didn't have a horrible history they wouldn't even wanna use them. I find it weird sometimes how some people like to collect slurs/bad terms but care nothing for the communities connected to them. Reminiscent of the able bodied people who will try and say "well my deppression is kind of like a physical disability so I can say cripple" and then go derail every conversation about physical disabilities and the ableism they face..

It's never about the activsim we these folk, it's always about some other thing they engage in faux activism for.
