IS PHYLOGENETICS A PROPER SCIENCE
new video up!
made a weird thing just to get back into the pace of making video essays. this is a cry for help after reading too many phylogenetics papers back when i was co-writing the intro for an article. the answer to the question is yes, obviously. the details, such as how this science developed, what are its rules, and why classifying living things into any category is so complicated... that took me half hour to explain

A lot of you guys use precise scientific terminology wrong because it's a meme! Here's what they REALLY mean:
[wrong definition without citation]
[wrong definition without citation]
[word that is in fact TikTok slang, not a scientific term]
[wrong definition without citation]
[wrong definition that implies mentally ill people should be fed to wood chippers]

Still enjoying Baldur's Gate 3. My spouse is interested in the game too, though I think it's unlikely that he'll be able to get into it. He doesn't have much experience with turn based tactical games, and I think that ultimately the high level of complexity in BG3 is going to be a barrier to entry.
I can't even advise him to play an easy character like a fighter because you have to control every action taken by every member of your squad. Sometimes he watches me during combat and whenever I open up the action wheel and scroll through literally dozens of choices he's like "...this looks really complicated".
He loves Dragon Age, but honestly that series is far simpler to get into. It does have a lot of granularity in its tactical options, but you can also just choose to lower the difficulty and let the AI control your teammates and you can do just fine.

Weird question but do you think I could put that my art was in Li’s Book of Friends on my resume? Totally cool if not I’ve just barely done anything in my life and I’m rather proud of that lol. You don’t have to answer publicly
ABSOLUTELY. It's on my resume, too!
Potential buzz word vomit: you were a "featured artist" who "coordinated with a grassroots team of over fifty international artists and writers to produce an illustrated fantasy travelogue that has raised over $3,000 USD in support of wildlife conservation."
Always list fannish works on your resume. They sounds AMAZING as long as you talk around the fandom name.

Happy trans day of visibility AND autism acceptance week. If you would like to support me, a trans autistic person, could you take a moment to check out and share some of my video essays?
Science Has An Accountability Problem
I've just started a new video anthology, Dumpster Fire Data, in which I talk about the big issues that science as an institution is dealing with. The first one is about scientific misconduct - how common it is, why it happens, and what we can do about it.
Aliens Among Us: How Capitalism Created Disability
A video I'm probably most proud of is an exploration of disability. I go into its definitions, history from the dawn of time to the present, and the reasons why systemic ableism is directly linked to capitalism's obsession with constant growth.
Is Phylogenetics a Proper Science?
The video that took me down the most rabbit holes is about phylogenetics. Apart from covering some of its history (and epic academic dramas), I also talk about why biology has no strict binaries... and whether a hotdog is, scientifically, a sandwich.
Representation DIY: Autistic Headcanons Edition
I've learned a lot over the 2 years of making videos, but my first is still dear to my heart. It's about autism representation in media, the value of headcanons, and one of my favorite TV shows, "Jonathan Creek".
---
I would really love to be a full time youtuber/science communicator after getting my PhD because it would allow me to work on my own terms and at home (which would be great for my chronic illnesses as well) instead of burning out every 3 months. You can help me move towards this dream with a few clicks. Thank you!!

Guys this is a really boring post but I have a Garth Marenghi blog, @theoneandonlywonton, and I'm really passionate about the show and want to share as much of it as possible. It's a comedy-sci fi-horror show that's a bit meta and it's a really underrated show.
If you're interested in watching, it's on Channel 4 in the UK and you can find the episodes on YouTube.
Here's a playlist I made:
If you like the show, you'll probably enjoy the blog too so feel free to check it out.

Review: 'Molli and Max in the Future'
Imagine a movie that combines Tron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and, somehow, When Harry Met Sally. Once the image of the film appears, add astral projections, cults, cosmic gods, and interdimensional trash planets. For most filmmakers, throwing this number of fantastic concepts into one film would be too much luggage. But Michael Lukk Litwak’s writing and direction in Molli and Max in the Future…

My neocities now has a section for Persephone! Albeit, still very much in progress
There’s not going to be much religious content there you won’t be able to find here, but I am still excited for this little project. I plan to have embedded music, book reviews, maybe something fun like prayer requests? We’ll find out along the way. Here’s to the free, open, and indie internet 🥂
