'Sibling Coded'

People calling some relationships ‘sibling coded’ nowadays make me roll my eyes because this idea that people can't fall in love because they're good friends is strange. Like I get it if the show goes out of its way to define the two of them being nothing more than platonic besties (ItaKugi for example, the show beat that ship over the head with a shovel and shot it behind the building), but sometimes it's just two characters that are good friends that have enough in common to feel as if they could one day fall in love, which is the core principle of shipping after all, but some human in the top percentile of dickheadery will scream in your ear that they're 'sibling coded' and should NOT be shipped because it'd be WEIRD!!!! (even though they're the ones that projected a sibling archetype onto the pair, solely them.)

Another variation of this is sometimes worse lol people will see two characters with straight up undeniable romantic implication in the series but will die on the hill that they're just friends or sibling coded (We all know at least one of these)

No hate towards the ship or shippers but I wish there was more sibling coded sskk content! I feel like I never see it but there's so much potential

Like Dazai is both their mentor (or ex mentor) and he forces them together like a parent trying to make his kids get along would

The way they fight and bicker often reads like siblings to me

And the way they're constantly one upping each other

they give me the vibes that if their relationship was more chill they'd start a war over who gets the chair or shove their foot in the others face just because

I feel like there's a lot of fun dynamics and senerios that could come of a dynamic like that between them and I wish there was more content about it 😔

Please describe to me what interactions between two characters who are not related signal to you that to you that they "act like siblings" and explain how those interactions differ from interactions that could be and are otherwise read as romantic in fandom ships.

Kevin and Jean relationship is so sibling coded to me. like I saw someone once saying that Kevin leaving the nest is like the older sibling living a toxic household, he HAD to leave and could not afford to look back because if he did he would never have left. and he had to leave Jean behind even though it was what hurted him the most, Jean was not ready to leave and Kevin could not stay and die in the nest waiting for him to be. but he still made him promise that he would make it out alive, that he would be free to.

and later on when neil asks Kevin what he has to lose Kevin does not answer but he still has Jean to lose.

once Jean is freed form the nest kevin knows Jean needs help but he also knows he can't be the one to help him, not directly at least. Kevin gives Jean the ho chance of a future worth living with the trojans.

Jean also cares for Kevin sort of like a sibling, he calls Kevin out but he always decnds him in front of others. I'm sure there is more but I've not read tsc yet.

been thinking a lot about platonic shadouge, i think they're just potentially so sweet, caring about eachother like siblings and being there for eachother.

like i have an idea where they're younger, and runaway together and looking out for eachother,

an idea where they're vampires and rouge is teaching shadow how the world has changed over 100 years

an idea where shes a treasure hunter and hes locked in a tomb and blablabla they become friends

gender exploratory nonsense where shadows transfem or agender and rouge is nb or possible transfem. and rouge loves her boots? thats in there somewhere.

gosh i have a lot of lil ideas and thoughts for them. and im just really feeling like expressing it a bit.

so im not okay

yelena and ava never stop arguing (because theyre so sibling coded). they will argue about what to eat at the Tower for dinner, what to watch after ARGUING about dinner, what to do after eating and arguing-

basically it got to a point where Sam set up a rule where whoever started the arguing had to do some mundane chore that only Bob liked doing. at some point the girls started lying about who started it and bucky had step in- and by step in i mean he basically would just sit between the two giving them both the 'resting winter soldier face' until they stopped.

the only thing that stops them from arguing all day and ending eachother is john walking in and saying some snarky shit.

In a Jegulus, wolfstar pirate au. In which Regulus and Sirius are separated as children and only Sirius remembers he had a brother.

Then it comes down to a life and death situation, triggering a memory for Regulus.

Sirius would sacrifice himself, to save his brother. (They don’t die.)

Regulus: “Who am I to you?”

Sirius: “Treasure.”

The way I giggled and kicked my feet when ROBERT ‘BOB’ REYNOLDS said that. Like hello? You’ve known her for literally two days and you both already connect on such an emotional level that it has you saying this. And not to mention Yelena doing the same thing. She literally protected Bob at all costs. Freaked out when she saw him as Sentry and almost refused to fight him at all until she felt she had to!

Give me platonic, give me romantic idc! JUST KEEP TO CODEPENDENCY THESE TWO SHARE FOR EACH OTHER I SWEAR TO GOD.

I am not at all sane about these two as it is constantly on my mind. I can’t figure out if I ship them (the most gut wrenching, butterfly activating, purest and self sacrificing relationship) or just want the most codependent sibling coded characters ever (the bonded like strays kind).
