Meeting the new Ghost King
Based on those ideas of Jason becoming the Ghost King.
After Danny defeats Pariah Dark, the crown (who is sentient) is looking for a new king who has the capabilities of running an entire realm. After Pariah, they actually want someone capable of running an entire realm, and someone who in Ghost years isn't a baby.
They find a halfa, with corrupted ectoplasm, running a crime empire, and thus, the choice was made. The crown helps filter away the corruption and starts explaining what new responsibilities the halfa gets as the King of the Infinte Realms.
*some time later*
After finding his footing as king of the dead. Jason starts bringing some order to the Infinte Realms, which eventually leads to diplomacy between the other realms. Since the previous king did jack shit relations between realms have fallen.
The Justice League and Justice League Dark get invited to a banquet in the Ghost Zone. The invitation states that the most prominent figures and people of each dimension will be there to establish relations between not only each other but most importantly the Ghost King. As a way of helping maintain balance and peace between all the realms.
The Justice League sends in the main trinity (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) plus Zatanna and Constantine for magic support. They arrive and immediately get a tag with their name and realms number.
The guests start to get a bit nervous as the banquet continues, and the king still hasn't shown themselves yet. That is until a ghost introduces himself as Phantom, the Fright Knight's squire, and announces the tge arrival of the new Ghost King: Jason Todd.
Most quests are surprised by the normal sounding name, while the Justice League are surprised by the familiar face.

A DC X DP #18
You want a taste of my brain? Okay, it's yours anyway.
Imagine dis…
This time I get inspiration from an A03 fic, and some of its parts just stuck with me and now I’m writing about it, if some of you want to read it go for it. If you are asking for the name don’t ask, I am not going to sell my soul to the devil to find it in my ever-growing history. If you do manage to find it, kudos to them.
TELL ME I AM GETTING DESPERATE OVER HERE
Credits to them as well. Also, as you’ve noticed I decided to post less, now it is due to a good old lack of inspiration. So, don’t go getting your hopes up on this one.
Ever since Danny Phantom had become the Ghost King he repeatedly entered the reincarnation cycle willingly to retain his morals when he was human. He still retained his ability to stay in the middle of life and death. But when he as the High King of the Infinite Realms gained immortality he found himself losing his ideals and values, he began forgetting. With Clockwork’s insistence, every few hundred years he would become human to experience a lifetime. Sometimes he would go another round in the same dimension, but only when he needed to finish an unfinished business.
Sometimes he is lucky sometimes he is not.
Sometimes he would be born into a loving family with either as the only child or him having siblings. He has experienced the life of royalty as the heir prince. He experienced the life of a knight who was known for his skills with the sword. He was born into a normal family which made him second guesses his every choice due to his lack of normality in his life. He was also born into some wild dimensions that of which could look like it came from a book. From wizards and sci-fi worlds, he never had the time to sit and be an extra.
But there were also times he was born far too unlucky.
He was born in a salve ridden society, a parent who were core members of a rebellion so when his current parents died, he was expected to be like his parents. Born in a society where the rich trample the poor and he was forced into early child labor as expected in society to work at a very young age. Born where he and the people around him had never seen peace in a war-consumed country, a war that separated his family from each other not knowing whether one is alive or not, leaving only him and his siblings to stay alive. Being abandoned by a pair of druggies for his parents left alone inside a dumpster and died in the middle of the night, looking through the dimension he saw that some homeless people found his body and reported it to the authorities leaving his parents in jail while some prisoners seem to leave them at the near bottom of the hierarchy in prison.
It seems this time he was born in an assassin cult this time he wasn’t alone. A twin, an older sibling that was with him in the womb and both came into the world together. The moment he laid his eyes on his grandfather he can already tell that he is a major fruit loop from the way he both look at both of them.
His name is too formal for his liking, Dylan Al Ghul, he already convinced Damian to call him Danny when it was just the two of them. Danny tries to downplay his abilities both ghost and human seeing that his grandfather is too power-hungry to the point of misusing ectoplasm that is corrupted but still ectoplasm to achieve some sort of immortality, he tried to give Damian a childhood in the form of showing him the stars whenever he could sneak him outside. He saw the absolute worship and awe Damian would give to their mother and their grandfather whenever they visit or supervised their training, Danny didn’t care for their approval nor their presence but seeing his brother seem to at awe and do anything to please the two made his heart shatter, his older brother never needed to prove anyone something.
Danny has repeatedly shown his disdain for the two most powerful people in the organization yet it is a miracle he still lives. It is because he is a spare, a spare yes not the heir but a useful spare one, twins one who specialized in stealth and espionage a twin who is a perfect copy of Damian aside from his eyes mirroring their supposed father. Both Talia and Ra seem to make it their life mission to drill his only purpose in his head, it may have never worked due to his adult mind but he pretended it would be as to not raise any suspicion.
The day Deathstroke attacked not only he dared to kill the demon head but also choose to kill the chosen heir, by removing an eye and some of his organs as a form of slow torture but also killing him as he made the organs unable to go back to their owner’s body.
Danny couldn’t look away from his bloodied brother, Talia slowly approached him from behind and put her hands on his shoulder, and whispered some honeyed words on how his role as the spare will be fulfilled at a much earlier date and promptly injected with a sleeping drug.
Danny was already awake when he noticed the cold metal bed behind him the lack of clothes as well the number of doctors seemingly in a rush to prepare for a last-minute surgery. He saw the unconscious form of Damian on the other side and suddenly heard the loud ticking noise of a grandfather’s clock.
It seems that it was meant to be, Danny thought as an image of Clockwork flashed in his mind.
He fell back asleep knowing that Damian lost an eye, kidney, a lung, some ribs as well an ungodly amount of blood, possibly more. Danny knew that this vessel of his wouldn’t survive at the sheer need and he already felt that he would not leave the room alive. So, he took one last peek at the sleeping Damian and promptly closed his eyes, the moment he opened his eyes once again he was back in his chambers in the Infinite Realms clutching his left eye in his face whilst looking at the mirror as he felt his eye be the first one to be removed.
It seems this time he died months before he and his brother celebrated their 10th birthday.
Damian woke up with a pounding headache being the assassin he is he immediately looked around seeing that his last memory is being tortured by Deathstroke.
He immediately took notice of his loose clothing and tried to walk towards the door but his knees immediately gave out. As he tries to gain his bearings, he noticed a scar right in the middle of his chest, it couldn’t be from the time when he was captured by Deathstroke as he noticed that this scar is too clean, too sterilized as if someone had just come out of a surgery type of scar. As he tries to loosen his shirt to take a better look at his scar when he noticed a mirror facing his way and noticed his eyes, instead of his usual pair of emerald eyes he was greeted with an emerald eye of his own and his brother’s icy blue eye in his left eye.
Damian remembered that Deathstroke took out his eye, as according to him it reminded him of the Demon head, and decided to promptly pull it out with his bare hands.
Dread began to fill his very being and tried to go and look for his brother but deep down he already knew what happened to him after all, he is the heir while his brother his beloved younger brother is just a spare.
When Damian had met his father’s wards most of them commented on his heterochromia eyes and promptly greeted back with his sword in their faces.
The rest grumbled that Damian couldn’t take a tease or two, but immediately chased the demon brat as he chases each and one of them with the intent to kill.
Damian couldn’t tell them; another son was hidden from Bruce. Another son he had failed, another son who died before they could even meet him.
From the first few interactions he had with his father when he first met him, he knew where his brother’s bleeding heart came from.
Sometimes he could still see him, Dyl- no Danny, every time he looks in the mirror. The constant reminder that his brother was seen by the league as nothing but a spare. Whatever love he had for his mother disappeared the moment he laid his sight at his brother’s eye embedded in his supposed empty eye socket.
The constant reminder that shows every time he looks at the mirror and the scar in the middle of his chest, Danny’s organs that were used on him to ensure his survival while Danny was left behind.
He was 14 years old when he went wide-eyed at the stranger across him and his brothers in a heavily populated area.
A teen looks exactly like him with a medical eyepatch on his left eye as he sits in a wheelchair chatting idly with an older man.
Damian heavily thought of a clone, did Talia, not mother never mother, make another clone after him after weeks of silence?
Damian still remembered the first time he encountered a clone with blue eyes, his running theory is that due to his new organs have bonded with him thus creating a batch of clones with blue eyes. Timothy had spoken up that since babies have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the colored eyes of either parent made a new branch of clones.
Damian was already planning on disposing of the supposed clone when the said clone suddenly laughed exposing his neck that have a feign white line across indicating a scar. But that scar made Damian double guess, all clones he encountered are scarred free thus leaving him to have no trouble disposing of each and one of them but the existence of the scar he barely caught is something both brothers swore secrecy to it.
The laugh oh god, his laugh, only his brother laughs like that, Damian thought mournfully.
As he tries to look the other way, he suddenly faced the same doctor who was the assistant doctor that foresees his surgery years ago. He may have distanced himself from the League after he had fulfilled his debt but it was no mistaking that it was the same doctor that operated him that time.
A chemist they said, an insufficient man who is more cowardly than any other man yet his talent in poisons made him quite a gem in the League.
A clone who had broke out of their collective mind control? Possible, but why this clone? What made this look alike so special that this man dared to leave the League?
Robin began to follow the two, the other bats thought that he had a new case on his lap that requires recon. They didn’t question Robin’s new behavior as they have seen him do the same actions when he landed himself a case or when he was following a lead. Yet they couldn’t shake the feeling that something is not right, whether it is the fact that Robin refused any assistance or just the fact they have no idea what kind of case Robin is working on.
They should have listened to their guts then maybe they wouldn’t be surprised at the bat screen, showing a maternal and paternal match to a picture of a blue-eyed black-haired kid with a medical eyepatch on his left eye looking like Damian in a good day.
Danny was doing some paperwork when a flying thought passed by him about his last reincarnation. All memories from his adventures when he got reincarnated are usually put behind the back of his hand yet worries about the well-being of his brother made him distracted, and kept close a special one-way mirror to monitor his baby brother.
Danny felt nostalgic at the family drama and chaos that he can’t help but cackle at each interaction Damian has with their father’s adopted children and wards. He found himself majorly of his time watching for hours and hours, he can’t help but wish he was there. As if he was summoned Clockwork appeared in front of him and told him to go back, which confuses Danny since it was Clockwork who implemented that he cannot go back to the same dimension/ world if his body is too far gone to be revived by him, yet Clockwork told him to give someone named Alfred his regards and vanished. Looking bewildered at his mentor/ grandfather he tried to sense his vessel with little to no hope seeing that the League has his body, but surprises himself when he felt his own body submerged in a portion of the Lazarus pit.
Going back, he was greeted by an assistant doctor that used to be in the League due to his ancestor’s debt. He explained that he cannot in good conscience do what he was instructed to after the operation, stole his body, and submerged it in an undiscovered pit due to its small size, enough to dump a child not enough for a grown adult.
After an initial check-up, both he and the doctor discovered that the mini Lazarus pit regenerated all of his organs except his eye seeing that it was his entire body submerged excluding his head. The assistant doc theorized that those organs of his may be weaker since they were generated from nothing, Danny in all his eldritch glory as well as being the most powerful being across the Infinite Realms played his part perfectly of a now disabled child.
After all who would accuse this disabled child putting the daughter of the Demon Head in an endless nightmare by his command to Fright Knight? Who would accuse that innocent blue eye of his that he had killed any assassin in their tail ever since he and his now temporary guardian began exploring the world? Who would accuse an adorable child that he was the one who had put the Joker in a definite MIA? Who would accuse this child who smiles like the sun despite his setbacks be the one who tortured Deathstroke to the brink of insanity? Danny is pretty sure his temporary guardian knew of his secret endeavors but remained quiet due to his habit when he was in the League or just to prevent any grayer hairs from growing in.
Now if only his brother stopped moping around the building across their apartment complex and just come inside, he made his infamous fudge to share with his brother. His brother didn’t have to drag the rest of the bat brigade in watching him across the building, he even made extra fudge, if only they could just go through the front door instead of rescuing him first in every rogue attack and pretend, they don’t him. Well, if they are playing a game then count him in to win. But for some reason all of them made a face of being constipated whenever they talk to him, Danny is so sure he used clean ingredients to make his fudge…
God dammit just enter the front door like a normal person, better yet tell Batman to stop looking at him as if he died! Those windows are not paying to fix themselves each time one of them decided to stop dropping and roll every other night!
PS: If someone out there wanted to continue or make a fic about this you are free to do so, don’t forget to tag me though.

Before we get into the chapter, a HUGE platonic smooch for @duchi-nesten who took the time to draw the Ancients from this story with bribery from me and @scarletsaphire I'm absolutely screaming over them still, they are just UGGHHH SO GOOD
Tumblr media
From left to right is Zunje, Babel, Pele, and Kala!
Anyway, onto the chapter! It's an important one! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everything begins. Everything ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jazz flinched as another wayward blast of ectoplasm exploded into the wall of the office building across the street, reducing it to little more than rubble. The battle was becoming more and more destructive as time bled on, and her nerves were really starting to get to her. She needed to get back out there and put a stop to it.
Unfortunately, there was the slight complication of her parents.
She’d tried to play dumb when Frostbite slipped up, but it had been pointless. Frostbite had been all too happy to explain that the Great One was, in fact, the ghost hero known as Danny Phantom.
Perhaps if it had just been her dad there, she would’ve been able to distract him, or figure out how to explain it away, but as luck would have it, her mom had pulled up shortly after the ghost king’s arrival.
It didn’t take them long to put two and two together. At least, that’s what she assumed.
Even more unfortunate was that her concussion had spontaneously decided to rear its ugly head, causing her to lean over and throw up in the middle of the road. Mom and Dad were far less than keen on letting her continue fighting after that. She’d protested of course, pointing out that the all-powerful ghost king was about to raze Amity Park to the ground, but they wouldn’t have any of it.
She had been forced to take shelter behind a large pile of rubble, along with her parents and Frostbite, as the battle intensified. Pariah Dark’s question about Danny had been met with a brutal attack from one of the four-armed Ancients, and the battle had progressed from there. At some point, the little lava-haired Ancient had taken over the direct combat with the ghost king, aided by the gnome and the four-armed ghost with a cloak of clouds. The last Ancient - Pandora, if Jazz remembered correctly - had engaged the black-armored knight. Sam and Tucker were still out there, somewhere, working to keep the thrall army at bay.
And that was just the fighting. Overhead, in the sky, the rip that had heralded Pariah Dark’s appearance still gaped over Amity Park. The air seemed to vibrate with its intensity; Jazz could feel it prickling at her skin, making her feel foreign in her own body. Like reality itself was beginning to fail.
In short, things were Bad-with-a-capital-B.
Jazz leaned over to peer around the rubble protecting them. “We should really be out there,” she muttered, even as her head throbbed worse.
“You’re not going anywhere, young lady,” Mom said. “Not while you’re injured.”
“I told you, I’m fine! I got it out of my system, I’m good to go.”
“I may not know many details about human biology,” Frostbite said, arching an eyebrow at Jazz, “but I have enough experience with the Great One to know that head injuries are serious in humans.”
Jazz didn’t miss how her parents winced hearing about “the Great One” and his injuries.
They hadn’t said a word about Danny - Fenton or Phantom - since Frostbite’s slip-up. It only put her that much more on edge. Sooner or later, Danny would return, and if Mom and Dad were going to flip out and shoot him on sight, she wanted to at least have the chance to warn him.
As it was, she couldn’t tell what they were thinking. Her mother’s poker face was nothing short of perfect, and her father, though he often wore his heart on his sleeve, was strangely stoic about it all. If there was one thing Jazz hated, it was not knowing things, and not knowing their thoughts on Danny was killing her.
She could only hope and pray. The fact that they weren't actively trying to gun down Frostbite was a good sign at least.
But for the time being, she pushed those thoughts away. “Believe me, I know plenty about head injuries. I wouldn’t be wanting to go back out there if I thought it was serious enough.”
“I don't think the person with the concussion should be making that judgment ,” Mom said. “You won't be going anywhere until we know you're safe.”
Jazz frowned. Was that a hint of hysteria in her voice?
Yeah, that couldn't be a good sign.
Still, her words gave Jazz an opening. “Alright, fine! Whatever! It's not like the world is ending or anything, in case you haven't noticed. Why aren't you guys out there, at least?” Maybe if she could convince them to go back to the fight, she’d have a chance to catch Danny before they saw him. Maybe she’d have a chance to warn him.
Her parents didn't answer. They exchanged a glance that Jazz couldn't read, and Dad’s shoulders sagged. He opened his mouth. “We -”
“What's going on here?”
Jazz’s eyes snapped up to see Valerie hovering just behind her parents and Frostbite; Wes clung to Valerie with his eyes screwed tightly shut. Her parents turned at the sound of Valerie’s voice, and though Jazz couldn’t see her mom’s eyes behind the red-tinted goggles, she could only imagine the look on her face.
Her dad, however, beamed widely. “The Huntress!” he exclaimed, grabbing at Mom’s arm like an overexcited child.
To her credit, Valerie avoided wincing too strongly. “Yeah, that’s… me.”
“Did you find him?” Jazz asked. She didn’t bother to hide the anxiety in her voice.
Valerie frowned, but nodded. “Yeah, but he’s… well…”
“Can we maybe have this conversation on the ground?” Wes asked shakily. Valerie responded with a roll of her eyes, practically shoving him off her. He stumbled the short distance to the ground and collapsed spread-eagle on the street. “Thanks,” he muttered.
Dad’s nose crinkled in confusion. “Uh… is this the backup you were talking about, Jazzy-pants?”
Jazz ignored him. “What do you mean? Where is he?” she asked Valerie.
“It’s okay, I’m here!” a voice called out. A moment later, Danny - as Phantom - pulled up beside Valerie. “I’m here.” Jazz’s breath caught in her throat. She had known, of course, that Danny had gone to get the Crown of Fire, but for some reason, it hadn’t crossed her mind that he would have to wear it. Granted, the crown on his head now was most definitely not on fire, but she thought the frosted look complemented him much better than fire. The way it sat on his head, and the way the cloak he wore rippled in the breeze and caught the light…
He looked regal. Like he really was a king.
It made her heart swell with pride. Her baby brother… he had come so far. She’d never doubted his leadership abilities, not really. His common sense could be… debatable at times, but her brother had a good heart. He was still young, of course, and the thought of him being a monarch had never occurred to her, but in that moment, Jazz couldn’t help but think that the role suited him.
She must have shown it on her face, because Danny caught her eye, and his hand flew up to the back of his neck. “It’s a long story…” he muttered sheepishly, his cheeks growing green.
Jazz opened her mouth to respond, but Dad stood up abruptly, cutting her off. Mentally, she kicked herself. She’d gotten so distracted by his arrival, she’d forgotten about their parents.
Danny instantly paled. Whatever he saw in Dad’s face, it couldn’t have been good. Jazz tried to stand, to intercept him, but Frostbite gently held her down. “Easy,” he rumbled quietly. “Do not act prematurely.”
Of course, she wanted to protest that, but she quickly became distracted by her father’s slow approach towards Danny. Her mother wasn’t too far behind.
Danny’s hand twisted into the cloak, and he averted his gaze. “Look,” he began shakily, “I… I get it if you hate me, and - and I… I’ll let you hunt me down or tear me apart or whatever you want, but please, you have to let me stop all this first, or there isn’t gonna be a world for you to tear me apart in. I just need to - mmph!”
Jazz squeaked and clapped her hands to her mouth as Dad lunged forward. She pushed Frostbite’s paw away to stumble to her feet. She had to get there first, had to stop him from hurting Danny -
 - but her heart stuttered to a stop as Dad wrapped Danny in a tight embrace.
“Danny,” he said, his voice cracking. “We were so worried… You have no idea…”
A stunned Danny returned the hug as Mom pulled down her hood and glommed on to his other side. “You don’t… hate me?” he asked, his voice muffled by their dad’s burly form.
“Listen to me, Danny,” Mom said, peeling him out of Dad’s arms and holding him by the shoulders. She looked him firm in the eye. “No matter what you do, no matter what you are, we could never, ever hate you. Never, do you hear me?”
Jazz could see the tears glistening in the corners of Danny’s eyes even from where she sat. His lower lip quivered the slightest bit before he threw his arms around Mom’s shoulders. “I’m so sorry,” he said hoarsely. “I should’ve told you forever ago, but I just…”
“It’s okay, sweetie,” their mom said, rubbing circles into his back. “It’s okay. We’ll have time to… to figure it all out.”
“Yeah, assuming the world doesn’t end first,” Wes snarked from his position on the ground. Jazz shot him a heated glare.
Valerie simply looked away and folded her arms across her chest. Jazz frowned. Something clearly wasn’t sitting right with her, but…
“Wait,” Dad said, furrowing his brow, “what’s this about the world ending?”
“It’s okay,” Jazz said. “The world isn’t going to end. Danny’s going to make sure of it.” Maybe she’d have felt more sure of her words if there hadn’t been a gaping hole in the sky threatening to rip reality apart, but someone had to look on the bright side.
Their parents glanced between the two of them. “What do you mean?” Mom asked slowly.
Before either of them could answer, another wayward ectoblast flew overhead, crashing into the roof of the building right above them. Huge chunks of rubble broke off of the building and began to plummet straight towards them.
Valerie reacted quickly, pulling Wes up by his shirt collar and grabbing Jazz to drag them to safety. Danny and Frostbite reacted just as quickly by throwing up ectoplasmic shields. The rubble slammed into them, then slid off the shields and away from the rest of the group.
Valerie whipped her head towards the battle. “I think I’m… gonna go help them,” she said. She flew off before Jazz could say anything, leaving nothing but a cloud of dust in her wake.
“I need to go help too,” Danny said thickly. He stared after Valerie. “It’s… that’s what I’m supposed to do. If I can beat him, everything will go back to normal… Mostly, anyway.” His hand twitched up towards his head.
Mom whipped her head in the direction of the battle. “Him?” she asked, nodding to where Pariah Dark and the lava-haired Ancient were still fiercely fighting each other. To Jazz’s horror, the Ancient seemed to be losing ground.
“Precisely,” Frostbite said jovially. How he could manage such a tone in these circumstances was beyond Jazz. “Once the Great One is able to defeat Pariah Dark, he can assume the throne and put the Heart of the Infinite Realms at ease! It’s quite simple, really.”
“Assume the - wait!” Wes shot upright. “You’re telling me that dumb crown isn’t just some weird costume?”
Danny flushed green, and his hand flew up to the back of his neck. “I, ah… like I said, it’s a long story.” He glanced at Mom and Dad. “I’m really sorry, believe me, I wish I could’ve told you differently, and I definitely wish it wasn’t the case, but…”
Jazz watched as Mom’s gaze drifted up to the crown on Danny’s head, as if she were just now noticing it. “What throne?” she asked weakly.
“Um… it kind of maybe sort of might be… the throne of the entire Ghost Zone?” Danny replied with a sheepish grin.
Dad scratched his head. “When did this happen?”
Danny’s face grew sober again. “I don’t know. I only just found out a few hours ago myself.” His eyes flicked away from their parents, down at his feet.
A pang of sympathy struck Jazz’s heart. Sure, Danny looked the part of a king, and somehow, she had no trouble believing he was the king, despite her earlier confusion, but somehow it had escaped her that he had barely had enough time to process everything. That everything was happening so quickly.
And their parents… it had to be equally difficult for them to process. They had only just learned their son’s true identity less than an hour ago, and now they were finding out he was essentially the heir to the throne of a world full of the same beings they had once sworn to annihilate. It would be a lot for anyone.
And so it nearly brought Jazz to tears when she saw Dad fight to plaster a smile onto his face. He placed a gentle hand on Danny’s shoulder. “Hey,” he said in a tone entirely too quiet for Jack Fenton, “it’s okay. Like your mother said, we’ll have time to figure it all out.”
Danny still didn’t look up. “Yeah,” he said, barely audible. “We’ll have time.”
His tone told Jazz he didn’t believe that in the slightest.
An ear-splitting roar shattered the moment. Everyone slapped their hands over their ears. Jazz only just managed to catch a glimpse of Danny gasping and hunching in on himself, clutching at his sternum.
A wave of hot air washed over Jazz. Trembling, she peered around the rubble, only to gasp in horror at the sight of the little girl Ancient bleeding lava all over the four-armed Ancient. She was still alive - as alive as a ghost could be anyway, but it was evident even from a hundred yards away that she was fully incapacitated. Pandora still fought with the knight, but everyone else - Sam, Tucker, Valerie, the other Ancients, even the thrall army - had practically frozen in place.
The most terrifying sight of all was the evil ghost king, looming over the street, staring straight at her.
No, staring straight at Danny.
“Come and meet your fate, little Prince!” he called mockingly. His voice reverberated over the street, causing buildings to rumble ominously. “Or will you take the coward’s way out?”
For a moment, the only sound that could be heard was the humming of the rip in the sky. Jazz held her breath as Danny glanced at their parents, then gently pushed Dad’s hand off his shoulder and took to the air.
“It doesn’t have to be this way,” he called back. “Just… give me the Ring before things get worse.”
Pariah laughed, a menacing sound that sent chills down Jazz’s spine. “Why should I surrender what is rightfully mine?”
Danny's eyes flared. “That power’s not yours. It’s mine.”
Jazz blinked at the sudden shift in Danny’s tone. It was still his voice, yes, but there was something about it…
Pariah roared wordlessly again. “Never!” he snarled. “Kilaris is MINE!”
With a guttural yell, he launched himself at Danny. Jazz could’ve sworn she saw a bright white light flare from the crown on Danny’s head, just momentarily, but when she blinked, it was gone, and Danny too had charged forward. The two collided in a blinding explosion of red and green.
Mom and Dad moved to follow Danny, but Frostbite held a paw up. “No,” he said, his voice somber and heavy. “This is not a fight you can help him with. He must win this by his power alone.”
“Listen here,” Mom snapped. “I don’t care how you do it in your world, but I will not stand by and watch my son fight some impossible battle on his own! I - we are going to help him, whether you like it or not!”
“I understand.” Frostbite flinched and threw up a shield just in time to stop another huge chunk of building from crushing them all. “But though you may not be able to help him in combat, there are other ways you can help him.” He glanced at Jazz. “Keeping your daughter and his friend safe, for one.”
“Pfft. Me? Friends with Fenton? Fat chance,” Wes scoffed.
“He will be able to fight with a sound mind if you help him protect yourselves and the other humans,” Frostbite continued, ignoring Wes. “And I must go and help my colleague.”
Mom turned, watching the battle with helpless eyes. “But… Danny -”
“ - will be just fine. But we must give him a fighting chance by helping elsewhere.”
“He’s right,” Dad said quietly, taking Mom’s hand. “We have to help get Jazz out of here. It’s getting too dangerous.”
“I told you, I’m fine! I can help too!”
Another explosion rang overhead. Jazz yelped and ducked as an enormous bolt of green energy flew over her head. It came close enough that she could feel its cold aura graze the top of her scalp.
“Y-you know, on second thought, I think I’m with Yeti Man over here,” Wes muttered, cowering behind a fallen wall. Jazz had to resist the urge to roll her eyes.
Her attention, however, quickly turned back to Mom. Again, she found herself wishing she could read minds. She could see the gears turning in her mother’s head after all, but Mom’s stoic face didn’t give her true thoughts away.
Jazz hated not knowing things.
Then Mom’s jaw tightened, and Jazz’s heart fell. She knew that look. “We’re getting you two to safety,” Mom said. Then, giving Frostbite a pointed look, she added, “And then we’re coming back to help Danny.”
Frostbite closed his eyes. “You will only distract him from what he needs to do. It is not wise.”
“That might be what you think,” Mom said as she bent down to help Wes stand, “but he's my son. I've let him struggle alone for too long.” Her voice cracked. “I have to start… making it up to him…”
“I assure you, the Great One does not bear any ill will towards you,” Frostbite said, frowning in sympathy. “This is not the time to begin ‘making amends’, though.”
Mom opened her mouth to retort again, but Dad laid a hand on her shoulder. “C'mon, Mads. We can figure it out later. Right now, we've gotta help these two.”
It was strange seeing her father being the rational, calm one, but Jazz chalked it up to the weirdness of the day. It was the only way she could keep it all straight in her head.
Mom shot Frostbite one last hard glare before leading Wes towards the RV sitting down the road. Dad scooped Jazz up into his arms and began carrying her to the RV, much to her embarrassment.
She opened her mouth to protest, but he cut her off. “Don’t you worry, Jazzy-pants!” he said. His tone was bright as always, but Jazz could tell it was at least somewhat forced. “Soon as you’re safe, we’ll get right back out there and help Danny kick some evil ghost king butt!”
Jazz bit her lip. “What about what Frostbite said? About… interfering?”
Her dad hesitated before answering. “I’m sure he’s wrong. You can’t trust a ghost, after all!” His face froze as soon as the words left his mouth. “I mean, uh, not Danny of course! He’s different.”
She didn’t quite know how to respond to that. That… was a misconception they’d have to clear up sooner or later.
As she peered over Dad’s shoulder, back towards where Danny was fighting tooth and nail against Pariah, she hoped there would actually be a sooner or later.
“Be careful, little brother,” she whispered to herself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The thread flickered.
Clockwork frowned as he allowed it to flow across his hands and in between his fingers. This certainly was the correct timeline, he knew that without a doubt, but its flickering concerned him greatly. It had been so strong when Vlad Plamius made the decision to allow Danny the Crown, but now…
He closed his eyes as he sifted through time. Before, the future had been as clear to him as any other. Now though, he could only see up to a certain point before it was obscured behind what felt like a thick wall of mist. There was still a future there, yes, but not one he could see.
It was, in a word, unusual.
“My dear Kilaris, what are you up to?” he murmured as he let the thread of the timeline slip from his fingers and back into the broader tangle of Time. Its flicker became swallowed up by the combined glow of the cluster of timelines, but Clockwork knew it was still present.
His eyes drifted to one of his time windows. The same image of Danny exiting the portal that he had watched just an hour or so ago played out again, this time in real time. A thin trail of frost followed in his wake as he flew to meet his family. The frost shimmered briefly in the ethereal light of the rip in the sky above, leaving a silky, glowing strand, almost like -
- ah. Of course.
“Must you always be so overdramatic?” Clockwork said aloud, the semblance of a grin pulling at the corners of his mouth.
He rested his hands on top of his staff. He knew what needed to happen now.
It was only a matter of time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fighting Pariah was nothing like it had been the first time around.
Before, Danny had been fighting in a clunky mech-suit. True, it had helped enhance his powers (until it tried to kill him), but it had made his movements equally clunky and stiff. He’d needed to adapt to the added weight and size quickly, but it still cost him when he took a few crucial hits.
This time he was not bound by any suit. He was free to move as he pleased, using the advantage of his smaller form to move with agility and speed that Pariah did not possess. He could dive in close for a punch or a kick, then turn on a dime and dart away. He wouldn’t have been able to do that in the Ecto-Skeleton.
There was also the fact that he had the help of the Ancients. True, it looked like Pele had taken some nasty hits from Pariah and would be down for the count, but the others were still going strong especially with Zunje now, keeping the Fright Knight and the thrall army at bay. He didn’t like seeing Sam and Tucker down there in the fray, so close to his own battle with Pariah, but there wasn’t much he could do about it.
And then there was the Crown. It remained secure on his head, feeding him a power that buzzed through his veins and his core, making him feel like he’d just taken six shots of espresso mixed with pure ectoplasm. It was an exhilarating feeling, one that made him wish he’d actually used the Crown when he’d had the chance, during his first fight with Pariah.
(A wish he immediately scolded himself for.)
Danny gritted his teeth as he threw up another ectoplasmic shield, this one with a thick coating of ice thanks to the power of the Crown. It helped protect him from Pariah’s elemental attacks, which ran much hotter than his own.
Ectoplasmic fire exploded across the shield, and Danny could feel its heat as it curled around the edges towards him. He had to dig his heels into the air to brace himself against the sheer force of the hit.
Pariah didn’t give him a chance to fire back. No sooner had Danny lowered his shield did he see Pariah lunging for him, fangs bared and a fiery, maniacal look in his lone eye. Danny yelped and darted to the side, just barely missing Pariah’s fist.
Danny tried to respond with his own blast of ectoplasm, the Crown’s power coursing through him, but Pariah deflected it easily with his mace. The blast ricocheted off of it and into the street. Danny gasped as it flew right over Jazz’s head, just barely missing her by a foot.
That turned out to be a mistake. He should’ve known better than to let himself get distracted. It gave Pariah the opportunity to take another swing with his mace, catching Danny in the gut and sending him crashing into the ground.
Danny gripped his stomach and swallowed down a cry. The mace’s sharp spikes were not just for decoration, it seemed; they’d dug mercilessly into his torso, leaving him with deep, ragged gashes. The fall into the street hadn’t been too kind on his ribs, either. He could already feel the Crown diverting some of its power to the injuries, trying to heal him as quickly as possible.
Pariah roared as he dove for Danny, fire exploding to life around his fist. Danny managed to roll out of the way, and Pariah’s fist slammed into the street, cracking it even more. In any other fight, Danny probably would’ve tried to make some snarky comment about how the potholes in Amity Park were already bad enough and they didn’t need more, but he was still struggling to get air back in his lungs. Not to mention he found it much harder to crack jokes in the middle of his more serious fights, mostly because he had to concentrate on not getting beaten to a pulp.
As Danny rolled, out of the corner of his eye, he saw his father scoop Jazz into his arms. Mom helped Wes up, and they ran towards the RV, which was still parked haphazardly down the road. Miraculously, it was still standing.
He could almost breathe a sigh of relief. He still didn’t know if Sam and Tucker were safe or if they were still out there fighting the skeleton army, but knowing his family (and Wes) were safe offered him a little bit of reassurance.
Focus. Do not lose sight of the goal.
Right. The Ring. He still had to get that. Somehow.
It was going to be much easier said than done. Getting it off of Pariah’s hand seemed impossible, especially with the relentless drive of the king’s attacks. Danny barely had the chance to recover and launch his own attacks, let alone come up with a plan to swipe the Ring.
He forced himself up and into the air. His cloak flared with cold energy as he allowed ice to gather in his hands. That was another advantage he had this time around - the help from his elemental core. His ice attacks were some of his strongest, and he silently thanked whatever unseen force had granted him an ice core as he loosed the energy all at once, freezing Pariah’s entire arm to the street.
You’re welcome, little Prince.
Danny almost stopped in midair. That remark definitely sent a flurry of questions flying through his head, but he had to keep his attention on Pariah. We’re not done with this, he still thought back.
Of course not. You still have much to learn.
He didn’t think the Heart meant it as a dig, but he still mentally stuck his tongue out. Even if he didn’t have time to ask questions, he could still be sassy. No one could take his sass away.
It was strange how much clearer the voice in his head seemed now that he had the Crown on. It had been clear before, but there was a new clarity to it, like when his eye doctor gave him a new prescription for his contacts. He supposed it made sense; now, he had that direct contact.
It still didn’t explain why the voice sounded like his own train of thought sometimes.
Even stranger was the feeling of the power offered to him by Kilaris. It was stronger than the power he’d had while wearing the Ecto-Skeleton, and that had probably been the time when he was the most powerful throughout the past two years. It helped that unlike the Ecto-Skeleton, the Crown did not drain him of his energy as he used it; instead, it continuously fueled him, pouring more and more power into his body, like it could never run out. It was thrilling, this feeling of endless energy. His core practically vibrated from it all.
At the same time though, fear nagged at him. This was how it felt with just the Crown on. How much worse would it be once he got the Ring too? The thought sent a chill down his spine, and he found himself subconsciously beginning to suppress his core. Suppress the ceaseless power flooding into him.
Why stop the power you are meant to have?
Danny swallowed.
That’s exactly what he was afraid of.
It all passed through his mind in the few seconds it took for Pariah to begin trying to melt the ice securing him to the ground. “Why you little -!”
More ice pooled in Danny’s hands. “Sorry,” he said as he re-froze Pariah’s hand to the street. “You just looked like you needed to chill out.”
Pariah bellowed, and the ice cracked and shattered. “Impertinent child!” he sneered. “When I am in control once more -”
“Save it!” Danny fired off a round of concentrated bolts of ice in quick succession, forcing Pariah to retreat a little. “I already told you, the Heart’s not yours anymore! It hasn’t been for a long time!”
“And you dare presume it is yours?” Pariah said. He quickly gained back the ground he had lost by leaping at Danny again.
Of course, Danny easily flew out of the way. “I don’t ‘presume’ anything!” he shouted. “I already know!”
It probably wasn’t the smartest thing to say, and he really didn’t like the taste the words left in his mouth, but if he’d learned anything throughout his career as Danny Phantom, it was that his opponents got sloppy when he riled them up. Snarking at them just happened to be the easiest way to do so.
Is it truly “snark” if you speak the truth?
In spite of himself, Danny almost laughed. If you’re gonna be stuck with me, you better get used to the snark, whether it’s true or not. We come as a package deal.
He ducked out of the way of another punch. He didn’t recover quick enough; by the time he managed to turn around to face the king, an entire wall of red energy was surging at him. There wasn’t time to fly around it. It struck him with a force so strong, he was thrown back more than a hundred yards.
His ribs groaned in pain as he slammed into the concrete and skidded back a few more yards for good measure. Nausea churned in his stomach from the blow, and he had to resist the urge to lean over and throw up. All too soon, Pariah was on top of him again, swinging his mace.
Knowing there was no way he could move in time, Danny turned intangible and allowed himself to sink into the ground. He counted to three, just enough time to get his nausea under control, then called ectoplasm to his hands. With the Crown’s power, the energy’s green glow was so bright, it almost seemed white.
It wasn’t difficult to track Pariah’s hot ecto-signature underground. Danny lined himself up underneath him, then sprang from the ground. His blazing fists collided straight with Pariah’s jaw. It didn’t push Pariah back like he had hoped, but it distracted him long enough for Danny to fire his ectoplasm in one long, continuous blast.
Pariah growled under Danny’s onslaught before finally bringing up a red shield. “You truly think this will be enough to stop me?”
Danny didn’t let up. “I’ll do whatever it takes to stop a monster like you from hurting the Realms again.”
“Really now?” Pariah twisted his shield into a blast of his own. It pushed against Danny’s, and he once again had to dig his heels into the air behind him to keep from being thrown back again. “Then why don’t you?”
Danny’s heart skipped a beat, and his attack faltered for the briefest of moments. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I think you do,” Pariah said, laughing. “I have seen you. I have seen your fears, your doubts…”
“You don’t know me at all!” Danny yelled. Frustration distracted him, and he unwillingly drew on the Crown’s power to fuel his blast. “Just ‘cause you got in my head once doesn’t mean anything!”
“Poor little Prince,” Pariah cooed mockingly, as if Danny hadn’t even spoken. “This is why you are weak. This is why you will fail to protect everything you stand for. You are nothing more than a scared child.”
Danny couldn’t stop the anger-fueled energy pouring into him and, subsequently, pouring out of his hands. The Crown was all too happy to supply it. It just responded to him too easily. It responded to his resentment of Pariah, his frustration at the tyrant king’s insinuation that he was a coward, his rage at the fact that Pariah refused to hand over what was rightfully Danny’s -
Danny screwed his eyes shut tightly. That last one, he knew it was the Crown’s influence, but he couldn’t stop it. It was all coming too hard, too fast, too strong, and it was thrilling. The power flooding through the Crown just felt so right, like maybe he really was meant to have it all along.
He wanted to throw up.
The power demanded a release. It thrummed against Danny’s skin, coursing through his core, making his green ectoblast grow brighter and brighter until it was nearly a blinding white. It would not remain bound for much longer.
And so with a guttural yell, he unleashed it.
He wasn’t entirely sure what happened - the rush of energy leaving him all at once had left him overwhelmed and disoriented - but when he opened his eyes, the whole block had a thin layer of ice covering it, sparkling in the ethereal light of the rip above. Large branches of the trees in front of the buildings had frozen and cracked off the trunks, shattering on the ground below. He could see at least one downed power line.
Pariah had fallen to the ground, into a huge crater Danny swore hadn’t been there before. Crystals of frost coated his hair and his cape. He slowly sat up, rubbing his head, clearly just as disoriented as Danny.
Danny stared at his hands in horror. Did I really do that?
The Heart didn’t answer him. He couldn’t tell if that was good or bad.
Probably bad. For him, anyway.
And in that moment, he swore to himself he’d never allow the Crown to give him that much power ever again. Never.
(No matter how right it had felt to control it.)
Pariah’s cough caught his attention. “You…” he muttered before stopping abruptly.
Danny’s breath caught in his throat as Pariah’s lone eye fell on the Crown sitting on his head. For just a brief moment, the world seemed to screech to a halt around them, and a silence filled the air, so thick it left a dusty taste in Danny’s mouth. Even the rip in the sky above seemed to pause in its yawning.
Then a fire sparked to life behind that one eye and a wave of heat crashed over Danny, nearly knocking him over. The roar Pariah let loose chilled Danny to the bone and left a whiny ringing in his ears. He didn’t even bother to try and stand his ground against a rage so strong; he simply turned and rocketed off in the other direction.
Just in the nick of time too, it seemed, as Pariah lunged after him. In an instant, a flurry - no, a storm of scarlet ectoblasts surrounded Danny. He twisted and ducked and dived and put all his flying skills to the test trying to dodge them all. It was difficult, since the blasts were all coming from behind him, but strangely enough, he felt as though he could sense them in the air as they flew at him, like he could just tell where they were without looking.
“Is that you?” he asked as he narrowly avoided yet another attack.
On the contrary. It is you, little Prince.
“That makes zero se- agghh!” A blast clipped Danny’s side, sending a flare of white hot pain up his ribcage. The blast was strong enough to send him careening off course, and he couldn’t stop himself from colliding with a building and plummeting to the street below. His head hit hard enough to cause his vision to go black.
He groaned pitifully as he laid on the road. The pain shooting through his side felt as though it was trying to burn straight through him, even in spite of the cloak and Crown’s efforts to heal him. Something sticky and wet pooled underneath the hand gripping his side.
For a minute, he just laid there, fruitlessly trying to will the pain away. Unbidden memories of being in a very similar pain in a very similar fight began to well up. He forced them back down. Not right now.
A blood-curdling scream had his eyes flying back open.
Vision half-blurry from the fall to the ground, Danny pried his head up off the street and looked. In front of him was the elementary school, surrounded by a shimmering green ghost shield. Normally, he wouldn’t have cared, since it was after school hours and the building would normally be empty, but his eyes landed on a small crowd of civilians, hovering near the inner edge of the shield and watching the battle with fear in their eyes. The scream had come from a little girl no older than six, covering her mouth in horror and pointing at him.
No, pointing behind him.
With a grunt of pain and a tremendous effort, Danny took to the sky again, wobbling in midair. Pariah’s boots slammed into the street not a second later, right where he had been laying.
This was bad. This was really getting bad. He was injured, and though the Crown and the cloak kept his energy levels high enough for the most part, he was devoting too much energy to the fight to focus any towards healing himself. Energy didn’t exactly help when it was his physical body that was damaged.
And now there was the fact that he had a slew of people behind him, huddling underneath a ghost shield. True, it would protect them from Pariah, and it would protect them from stray blasts, but rubble could easily go flying in, or someone could step out of the protected radius. It was too dangerous to keep the battle this close to them.
(Not to mention he saw more than one cell phone out and recording, and that definitely set him on edge.)
He tried to dart away from the shield, but Pariah managed to snag his collar as he whizzed by. He gagged and his hands flew up to his throat.
“A coward!” Pariah cackled. “That is who you are! Fleeing from the battle? Fleeing from those under your protection?” He threw Danny into yet another building. “And Kilaris dares deem you worthy?”
“So you admit it,” Danny coughed. His hand gripped his side again. “That the Heart wants me over you.” Not that he was crazy keen on that fact.
Pariah’s face morphed into a dark frown. “The Heart’s opinion is worthless!” he snapped. “It is I who controls Kilaris! Its will bends to me!”
In spite of the pain and every instinct telling him not to, Danny shot Pariah a cocky, albeit weak, grin. “Bet.”
He had to keep from laughing at the stunned look on Pariah’s face. It was clearly not the response he had been expecting to his declaration, and the fact that Danny had been able to catch him off guard that badly was priceless.
The humor didn’t last long, though. In the blink of an eye, Pariah was charging at him again. This time, Danny anticipated it enough to be able to phase back through the building. He emerged at the ground level, underneath Pariah, who was still looking for him.
Danny moved to leap up once more, but his ribs screamed in protest. He hissed as he tried to keep from doubling over.
The cloak’s interior had to be sub-zero at this point, it was working overtime. Another layer of frost was beginning to glaze over it. The Crown too grew colder on his head, feeding pulse after pulse of energy into him.
You have been holding back, little Prince. The power has the capability to heal you and aid you in battle simultaneously, but you must let go of your fears if you are to use its true potential.
Danny didn’t answer. He was too distracted barely dodging Pariah’s mace and firing up a barrage of ice at him to do so.
There was also the little fact that he didn’t want to answer. He didn’t want to… couldn’t acknowledge…
Yet he couldn’t deny just how badly his core wanted it. The memory of how that power had felt just those few minutes ago burned through his head, and his core jumped in earnest.
He gritted his teeth and forced his core to quiet. It would be fine.
It had to be.
As soon as the ice left his hands, though, he collapsed in on himself once more, clutching his bleeding side. It was long enough of a distraction for Pariah to slam his feet into the street, causing enough of a quake to knock Danny off his feet and to the ground.
Okay, so maybe it wouldn't be so fine.
Pariah swung his mace down again, and Danny responded with a green shield. It was too hasty, not properly formed, and it shattered underneath the force. Danny yelped and tried to roll away, but the mace still clipped his back, tearing open the skin there.
Yeah, definitely not so fine.
The temptation to give in and let the Crown flood him once more was growing by the minute. Danny didn't know how long he could sustain himself with all these injuries, let alone how he could win the fight and take the Ring. His core ached to be filled by the Heart's power. He knew that if he let it happen, it would almost guarantee his victory.
But his eye caught the ghost shield behind him, where the crowd of civilians stood watching him with horror painted on their faces. He remembered just how badly he had destroyed the block over when he'd let the Crown's power overwhelm him, and his stomach flipped. No way could he put his people in that sort of danger.
You can control it, little Prince. You are more than capable.
Again, Danny didn't respond. The battle consumed too much of his focus. Gasping against the flare of hot pain, he took to the air once more to avoid yet another swing of Pariah’s mace. It missed him by a hair. He raised his hands once more to answer with an attack of his own, and -
“Danny!”
It was instinct. He turned his head at the sound of his mother calling his name.
It was the worst mistake he could’ve made.
He met his mom’s eyes for just a moment, but it was a moment enough for Pariah to make his move. Danny didn’t register the heat moving behind him until it was too late. He turned around just in time to see Pariah’s hand flying towards him.
Reflexively, he turned intangible in the nick of time. Pariah’s hand sailed harmlessly through his head and out the other side. His tangibility returned, and he reached out to return the attack.
It wasn’t until an emptiness unlike any other hit him like a brick wall that he realized it hadn’t been him Pariah had been gunning for.
Danny immediately dropped to his knees and doubled over in pain as his core cried out. Just like at Vlad’s, his core felt like it had been ripped straight from his chest and drained of all its energy. Cold air surrounded him as his cloak flared to life, trying desperately to compensate for the lost energy. The only sound was his frantically pulsing heart in his ears, and he couldn’t catch his breath enough to shout.
It hurt. Ancients, it hurt.
And unlike at Vlad’s, the emptiness pressed on.
Danny managed to look up as panic bubbled to the surface. His stomach only churned worse when he saw Pariah standing in front of him with a wild grin, holding the Crown that had been sitting on Danny’s head.
“You should’ve surrendered when you had the chance, little Prince,” he said.
Danny tried to respond, but couldn’t. It was too much. The void inside him felt like it was about to swallow him whole, just like the void above was threatening to swallow Amity Park.
Please, he begged in a fit of desperation, help me!
The Heart didn’t respond.
“It cannot help you now, child,” Pariah Dark laughed, as if he had read Danny’s mind. “Not when it is finally back in the hands of its true master.”
And as Pariah laughed once more and raised the Crown to put it on his head, Danny lifted a feeble hand towards him, trying to call up his ice, his ectoplasm, his anything, anything that could stop him. He couldn’t feel his power, he couldn’t feel his core, he couldn’t feel his Heart -
Pariah roared in pain. Danny’s head snapped up to see him drop a steaming Crown. It landed on the street with a loud clatter as Pariah held his also-steaming hand close to his chest.
“You!” he bellowed, glaring daggers at the Crown. “You will yield! That power is MINE!”
Danny ignored him. He had zeroed in on the Crown and begun to drag himself toward it. Somewhere in the back of his head, he realized he probably looked absolutely ridiculous right now, and it pained him to think about how badly he wanted - needed to get the Crown back, but he didn’t care.
He couldn’t tell if he was simply imagining it, but he could almost feel a little tendril of power, reaching out to him, trying to hook into his core, trying to pull him closer.
Pariah roared again, and Danny had to retreat back into the cooling comfort of his cloak as a wall of heat crashed into him. “No!” he snarled. “If you will not bow to me, then you will have no one!” With a shout that shook Danny to his bones, Pariah snatched the Ring from his finger and threw it down next to the Crown with such force that it formed a little crater.
Danny’s heart began to pound even faster. This was it. This was his chance. He just had to move -
But he never made it. Pariah unleashed a terrible scream, and then hot, red energy poured from his hands.
Straight onto the Crown and the Ring.
If losing the Crown had hurt, Pariah’s attack on it was excruciating. Danny gripped his head and his core, unsure if he was the one screaming or if it was someone else or if he was just imagining it.
“Stop!” he managed to gasp. “You - hurting…”
But Pariah paid him no mind. Instead, he yelled louder, and another barrage of energy slammed into the Crown and Ring. Danny reacted as though he had been the one to get hit, falling to his stomach and crying out soundlessly.
He could barely see the Crown and Ring through Pariah’s onslaught, but when he finally gathered the strength to lift his head and look, his entire being froze.
A crack appeared in the Crown.
And now he was sure he wasn’t imagining the scream of pain because it definitely had to be him with how his core cracked too, and there was definitely another voice screaming in harmony with his and Ancients, of course it would be screaming, with the way Pariah -
“I am the power of the Realms!” Pariah roared, and another crack appeared in the Crown.
Danny reached out one last time, but he knew it was fruitless. There was no way…
Danny cried out.
The Crown and Ring cried out.
Kilaris cried out.
And then
Kilaris

Superphantom: The Ghost King, three hunters, and an Angel.
After tons of years as the ghost king, Danny decided to take a road trip across the country both to take a small break but also to make sure the other spirits outside of Amity Park weren't causing too much trouble.
While Danny is travelling around and getting into misfit he comes across both Bobby Singer and the Winchester gang who don't know he is the ghost king or that Danny is a ghost at all, they just think they had picked up a young scrawny teenager who wants to be a hunter.
This AU has quite a few changes to it and knowledge you kneed to know before we start:
1. Since Danny become basically Schrödinger's boy he stopped ageing past 14, just gained a bit of mussel and slightly more scars for his human half.
2. When Danny got blasted by the whole power of the ghost zone he picked up ever ghost in there's abilities/powers, but can't control all of them or barely uses some.
For example: when Danny gets like SUPER angry he can cause minor storms similar to the tornado ghost but once it starts he can't control it, or for another example, he gained the ability to ride any motorcycle from kitty/Johnny.
3. The Winchester's are just doing basic hunting at this point in time, so no big bad apocalypse or anything like that.
4. Cas and Dean are an unofficial couple, they try to deny anything is between them but something is up.
5. Finally, I hope you have fun reading this story and it's mainly for entertainment.
Chapter 1: little lost ghost.
_____________________________________
Danny looked one last time at himself in the mirror, taking deep breaths and reminding himself that he wasn't going to be gone for long and that the ghost zone was in good hands.
For weeks Danny had made sure the other ghost we're either going to behave or be okay while he will be away.
Clockwork had suggested that Danny should take a break and explore the world, he had been ruling over the ghost zone for more than 100 years, they will be okay with him gone for a year or more.
During the time Danny was packing he had visited everyone he could and gave them his goodbyes, not admitting that he half did this to stall but he knew he had to leave at some point.
As he took one last long look at himself, Danny hadn't aged for years, he was still the same 14-year-old with bags under his eyes, the odd freckle splatter across his face, and scars from his many battles hidden under blue jeans and a hoodie that had a stitched up red heart on it that hid away his black as night hair.
He was stalling again and he needed to leave now.
Daniel grabbed the overstuffed duffle bag and threw it over his shoulder and made sure the strap was right around his body, while he was messing with his bag Fright Knight came into the room to make sure his king was alright.
"My majesty are you taking your crown with you?"
Danny nodded and turned into his second ghost from where the crown floated above his head, making Fright knight nod with a smile.
Danny turned back to his human self, quickly running up to his loyal knight and hugging him tightly, Fright knight was a little confused at first but quickly hugged Danny back.
____________________________________________________
It took nearly three hours for Clockwork to get Danny to stop hugging and saying goodbye to everyone AGAIN.
He gave his usual dad speech before he left the ghost zone, the basic warnings that any parent would give;
"Don't get into random people's cars" "do you have enough money?" "If a ghost is giving you any trouble you have my permission to deal with them as you see fit."
Danny smiled as he looked back at all his friends who were waving to him as he left, he was going to miss all his mischievous friends.
The small ghost king went through the only open portal to the human realm, which led back to Danny's old home and basement, dust covering everything that had been left alone for years, the thick musty air filled his lungs as his steps creaked on the corroded metal steps.
Once upstairs Danny had to leave quickly or he would be stuck trying to recall his life before everyone had gone on with their lives, leaving the old place to its state of abandonment.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he walked through the door and out at the last bit of daylight, his human half finally breathing fresh air was colder than he was expecting.
Danny scanned his surroundings and noticed that the leaves were already transforming into spots of gold and browns, and red colours, leaving nothing but the turning of the season to be gazed upon.
With one big gulp of frozen air, Danny made his way down the cracked sidewalk, planning to leave for the road but he knew he had to see one more person before he left, someone that wanted him more than anything but had made his life a living hell for a bit.
Danny had to say his last goodbye to Vlad Masters...
By the time Danny reached the old Frootloops castle, it was past midnight and Danny was feeling actually calm as the cold wind flowed around him.
Danny was no longer scared of Vlad, and in truth at this point just saw him as an overdramatic millionaire, including since he stopped trying to get Danny to be his son.
When Danny knocked on the front door it flung right open causing Danny to nearly turn ghost but after the scare, he slowly calmed down and went inside the castle which was still very clean from what he could see in the dark.
"Hey, FruitLoop! You in?",
Danny's voice echoed loudly, soon being greeted by some kind of crashing noise coming from one of the rooms upstairs.
Just as his voice died out Vlad who was wearing striped pyjamas had rushed down the stairs, turning on the lights just as he rushed over to hug Danny in the tightest hug he had received so far.
" Daniel my boy! I heard the news already, I thought you would have left by now, but I'm so glad you hadn't yet".
Same old Vlad, always welcoming Danny in open arms even after all these years.
"Hey, I couldn't leave my old crazy fruitloop without saying something, you know me always wanting to have the last pun".
Each stared at each out then started to burst out laughing like how old friends would, being so glad to see each other even if it would be a while yet again.
Both Halfa's caught up on what they had missed in each realm, how the ghost zone was peaceful-ish and that everyone there was doing fine.
As for the human realm, things had gotten a little more interesting since more supernatural creatures were starting to show up more, and how some troubles came and went.
Danny was both relieved and a little scared that other than ghosts were being a bit bolder on coming out since it meant that he could possibly not be hunted the moment he shows his ghost self.
As Danny was about to go Vlad wouldn't let Danny leave before giving him some cash and a credit card to use while on the road.
With the last of his goodbyes done, Danny finally set out, leaving Amity Park for the first time in years and into a bigger new world.
__________________________________________________
It took only two and a half weeks, nearly a new record for Danny to be in some kind of danger, and for once it wasn't ghosts.
No, what was after him this time was an actual vampire this time, meaning Danny was unprepared to defend himself so all he could do was run as fast as he could which was surprisingly only a little faster than the bloodsucker who was hot on his trail.
Danny spirited around trees, barely avoided tripping into ditches and was not having a good time whatsoever.
He had tried a few times to turn intangible but with a vampire so close by it was pretty hard to concentrate on any of his abilities, especially since if he even stopped for one second he could be a full goner.
"Just got to last till sunrise, just till then, vampires have to hate the sun at least a little",
Danny kept on talking to himself to keep himself moving forward no matter what, just at least till the ankle bitter gets off his trail.
" oh, little boy~ you can't run forever, not even a hunter will last much longer".
Danny cursed his need to make a sarcastic quit while he is in panic mode, if only he kept looking forward he wouldn't have caught his foot on a loose tree root and sprained his ankle badly as he rolls hard into an open plain, leaving him defenceless as the vampire now walked calmly towards the boy, almost teasing the prey in front of them.
Before the bloodsucker could even get close enough Danny inhaled a ton of air and in one last-ditch effort he let out the loudest ghostly wail he could.
The once confident vampire was suddenly blasted back and holding their ears, but Danny didn't stop, his wail only grew stronger and stronger till it knocked down five trees into broken pieces.
By the time Danny stopped the vampire had left running for the hills, leaving Danny tired but half alive, which was better than being food.
Speaking of food Danny was starving to get something to eat, running for most of the night and using his ghostly wail while being in his human form made him hungry then he felt for a super long time.
He stumbled as he rose to his feet and started to walk again, hoping that there was a town close enough to get something to eat.
Danny's legs felt like pure lead by the time he gotten to rest inside the old-style diner, he relaxed on the soft red cushion as he dug for his wallet to make sure he didn't lose it, it was one thing to be hungry but Danny wasn't going to eat if he didn't have the means to pay.
Luckily his wallet was still there and so was the card Vlad gave him, with only 20 dollars left of cash.
As Danny waited to get his order taken, a deeply tanned waitress came up to him with her notepad, she looked at the tired 14-year-old looking kid with a look of concern and suspicion.
"Where are your parent's sweetheart? You can't be all alone just sitting here right".
Danny didn't blame her for asking, he knew his appearance was of a homeless kid, but he was too hungry to really care about the question of his parents.
He just looked up at the lady with a tired look and practically ignored her question, " does this place have cash or card? Just want to know how I should pay".
The waitress didn't like how he responded at all and was just about to tell him to leave, but before she even could get a word out an older man who looked like the kid's father sat down across from him and spoke up,
"Sorry about that Sally, my kid here was just told to pay with my money if I didn't get us a parking spot on time, please excuse his manners".
Danny was beyond confused but didn't show it, in fact, he played along and the waitress soon left in a huff to get them both menus.
The man who had saved him looked almost in his forties, with a cap on his head and a thick brown beard he did look like the dad type.
Danny was about to thank him as the menus arrived but the older man cut Danny off with just a raise of his hand.
" Now I'm just going to cut to the case here, I can easily tell your new around these parts and possibly been on the road for a long while correct?",
Danny only nodded, if you count barely a month a long while, the man continued his speech "As I thought so. Now here I'll make you a deal after we finish eating. I can lend you a place to stay a night or two, but in return, you have to help me clean it up Ya hear?".
Danny was stunned but quickly accepted the proposal, the man nodded, happy that Danny had some sense in him.
" I'm Bobby Singer, and you are young man?"
"I'm Danny Fenton, it's nice to meet you "
Danny shook Bobby's hand, soon going back to being quiet between both of them as they were picking out what to eat, letting Danny calm down for the first time in a few days.

~Bobby's pov ~
________________________________________________
It was a slow week for Bobby, barely any monsters in sight, and with the Winchesters, most likely hunting someplace else left him with a lot of free time on his hands, meaning he was out on the road very early in the mornings to look out at the scenery.
During one of these drives, something had caught his eye which was five huge trees knocked down and torn up from the roots with the sounding ground looking like a bulldozer had ripped through it.
Bobby stopped his truck, grabbed his gun quickly and went over to investigate what the hell was even going on.
Bobby could see the damage was much worse up close and knew whatever caused this wasn't human, as he survived the area he could tell that the main source came from a single point and had spread out as it went further away.
He knew he needed to find whatever caused this and quickly because if something like this could do that kind of damage out in the middle of nowhere, in a small town or even a city this kind of destruction could be ten times worse.
Bobby rushed back to his truck, with a plan to call the Winchesters to help him figure out this mess, but first, he had to ask around town if anyone had seen or heard anything.
Bobby checked the bar, the then square, and now he was heading to the diner, so far the only information he got was that during the very late hours of the night half the town heard a piercing wail of some kind, in fact, a few were talking about with no hesitation since so many heard it.
This made Bobby a little more worried and needing to find it sooner than later, but since he was already at the diner he will grab something to quickly eat while he continued to ask around.
As he walked into the door he quickly noticed a very tired looking 14-year-old boy with bags under his eyes, I kept black hair and clothing that was torn and very much old.
What had caught Bobby's attention the most was both the kids piercing blue eyes and a few scars that were obviously trying to be hidden, the boy in front of him looked almost lost as the waitress was about to give him an ear full, so Bobby quickly stepped in and acted like the kid's dad to make her leave both of them alone.
Once Bobby got the waitresses to leave he took a better look at the newcomer in front of him, the kid was either a runaway or homeless from the looks of it, he gave off a tired like an aura, with the look in his eyes he would have east out any second now.
Right before either of them ordered anything the kid sitting across from him was about to speak but Bobby quickly cut him off with a small hand gesture, he took the lead in speaking.
" Now I'm just going to cut to the case here, I can easily tell your new around these parts and possibly been on the road for a long while correct?",
The scared boy just nodded leaving Bobby to continue
"As I thought so. Now here I'll make you a deal after we finish eating. I can lend you a place to stay a night or two, but in return, you have to help me clean it up Ya hear?".
With a single movement, the kid showed his agreement, which made Bobby smile knowing the boy was smart enough to take a good deal.
" I'm Bobby Singer, and you are young man?"
"I'm Danny Fenton, it's nice to meet you "
With that out of the way, they could finally order some breakfast, Bobby ordered just the basic toast and eggs, but Danny? He ordered a big enough meal to feed a starving bear, almost matching the appetite of the Winchesters...
Wait, that can't be right, Bobby knew that Danny was barely a teenager, why would he have an appetite of a hunter? Unless, shit.
The thought of Danny possibly being a hunter was stuck in Bobby's head, he kept trying to doubt himself and just chalk it up to the kid just growing, but that still didn't explain why Danny had scars or even the usual homeless look most hunters had.
Bobby mind kept on turning that he almost didn't notice that the kid paid for the meal with some kind of silver card, another hint, hunters who have children always try to make sure their kid has enough to get by, meaning if Danny isn't a hunter then his parents must, including since the kid was all alone.
Bobby leads Danny to his truck and quickly noticed the young teen was limping, singling that he was injured in some way, to the kids surprise Bobby helped him into my truck, making sure he wasn't walking too much if he was hurting.

~Danny's pov~
_____________________________________________
So much can change in a couple of hours, at the start of the day Danny had been injured trying to get away from a vampire, had to walk to town on a hurt ankle, and was almost yelled at by a waitress, but also met a man named Bobby who was willing to take him in for a few nights which was nice, and he even helped me into his truck when he saw him was struggling.
Now Danny was sitting on a couch with his foot resting and reading a book from Bobby's collection, it was nice to relax after a rough few weeks.
The first night was the best for Danny, the couch was way more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, and he was given a small time to heal up, his ankle was much better now and he could easily help out tomorrow which was the least he could do for the kind man.
Morning came way too early but Danny knew he had to get up, as he stretched out he sat up and was trying to get up from the couch but the moment Danny tried he was pushed back down gently, Bobby had placed a hit drink on the table next to Danny while was moving around like he was preparing for doomsday.
This made Danny a little uneasy but didn't speak up since he still didn't fully know the man's temper yet and if the guy who was kind enough to help Danny was nearly freaking out it must be important.
After a long period of silence, Bobby finally spoke up;
"I'm going to have some old friends over so don't be alarmed if they aren't too friendly, their hunters like me with an extra friend of theirs staying over too".
Danny nodded and gave a thumbs-up, but was left wondering if he meant animal hunter or monster hunter because depending on which could mean life or death for Danny if he slipped up on his powers.
Once Bobby was done running around the house he pulled up a chair to check on Danny's ankle, and thanks to his healing ability he was all healed up meaning Danny can walk again, and even help out.
It was obvious Bobby was impressed and let Danny clean the house a bit but was keeping an eye on him just in case.
Danny helped clean the kitchen, bring in some firewood, and was just finishing putting blankets away from his made shift bed.
As he put the blankets away Bobby walked back in with two men walking behind him.
One was very tall with light brown long hair and greyish eyes, this guy could be confused with being bigfoot or even a sasquatch.
The second man was just a bit shorter but still very tall too, he looked almost like a soldier that had too much fun shooting, his hair was shorter but had the same colour as Mr.Sasquatch so it was perfectly okay to assume they were brothers.
Both the men looked surprised to see him, and he didn't blame them.
Bobby cleared his throat and introduced each of us,
" Sam, Dean, this is Danny. Danny meet Sam and Dean Winchester"
"Uh hi? It's nice to meet you two", Danny gave a weary smile, his attention quickly moving away from Mr.Sasquatch and Soldier guy when he glanced behind them, seeing a third party member who was just walking in.
Danny had seen quite a few beings in his years, but the man before him was something else, for starters, he was wearing a tanned trench coat and a blue tie, his expression was that of indifference, but the main thing that caught Danny's eye was the huge wings coming out of the man's back that somehow didn't knock anything over as the man walked in.
All four men notice Danny staring, with an expression that wasn't frozen in fear but in curiosity and confusion.
The man in the trench coat moved closer to Danny making him nearly stubble back as the man spoke to Danny in a mix of both human and angelical combined voices asked a single question,
" you can see my wings?"

This is That AU + bonus Resistance Cell AU (Danny Phantom)
(This turned out way longer than I intended, but god it’s a fun idea. If anyone creates anything out of this, please send it my way! And if you have any ideas to add, feel free!)
Danny Phantom “The Ultimate Enemy” AU where the future is the Ghost Zone and the Ghost Zone is the future (aka they’re switched, and the future is thought of as a location in time).
Skulktech’s medallion falls off? The gang’s sent 10 years forward in Amity Park, and Danny’s introduced to the mayhem he causes firsthand. Perhaps Clockwork has headquarters set up there now bc Dan drove him (and all the other ghosts) out of the Ghost Zone.
The Ghost Zone itself, much like the human realm, is also destroyed, but even more so. When Dan was done with Earth he invaded the GZ and didn’t look back. He declared himself the Ghost King, and when he learns the Ghostly Wail, he uses it to wreak even more havoc and scare off any lasting threats to his reign.
The ghosts that dare to stay in the GZ are either:
trying to appease Dan by doing his bidding so they’ll be spared (not that it helps much)
actually want to side and fight for him (like the Fright Knight)
got stuck in the aftermath of the invasion and are basically prisoners
or are part of the small resistance cell that tries to take Dan down (like Valerie in TUE)
So Danny and co. end up running from Clockwork into the GZ (which is also 10 years in the future) and Danny meets Dan and all that. Things go pretty much like the episode, except everything’s adapted to the switched environments:
The trio doesn’t need the medallions to stay in/leave the GZ, but perhaps they’re still wearing them from their fight with Clockwork anyway. Perhaps they work the same way for Sam and Tucker, but when they take them off before being crushed, they end up back with Clockwork in the future and not back in present-day Amity Park.
Since Dan knows keeping Danny’s medallion tethered to him would be pointless, he just takes it and uses it to go back to present-day Amity to ensure his future.
Dan throws a tied-up Danny through his self-created portal back to Earth. Whether Danny ends up back where he started with Clockwork or somewhere else entirely is up to you, but oooh, consider the ramifications of both:
He goes back to Clockwork:
he’s with Sam and Tucker again. He can explain everything he learned to them and they can come up with a plan, perhaps form a team with Clockwork and others.
BUT as a result, he doesn’t learn the Ghostly Wail (at the very least, not here, and possibly not at all bc up to this point, he probably hasn’t seen the Wail in action: he didn’t see Dan through one of Clockwork’s screens, and Dan didn’t use it on him during their first encounter. So it’s likely that the first he’ll see of it is when Dan uses it during their fight at the present-day Nasty Burger).
He ends up somewhere else entirely:
he could end up alone somewhere random, and possibly the only thing that saves him is the Boooo-merang that’s floated through time and the GZ (bc Jazz probably doesn’t know which realm he’s in in the future?) and found a natural portal to Earth?
Or maybe he ends up exactly where he needs to be, in Vlad’s lair, and although he doesn’t need the medallion removed, Vlad can at least free him from being tied up and can explain things, maybe help him get back to Clockwork.
Or maybe he ends up alone but then finds/is found by some ghosts (much like in canon). Maybe they still act like his enemies and he gets aggravated enough to learn the Ghostly Wail (à la canon). Maybe he doesn’t and they destroy him and (unknowingly) their chance to have things be different. Or maybe he can convince them that he’s not the same guy as Dan (yet), and they work together to organize an attack against Dan, maybe even with some humans (since this is Earth, and Dan destroyed both their homes, I’m thinking at least some groups of ghosts and humans would sympathize with each other and learn to live together). They also find Clockwork, Sam, and Tucker, since they need Clockwork to go back in time. (And maybe even future!Valerie, if she’s around?)
Or maybe Danny just ends up alone and stuck somewhere, and just...dies completely, leaving everyone and everything doomed.
However he gets back (if he does) and whoever with, the present-day story has a few key notes:
Unless Clockwork decided to send Sam and Tucker back, Jazz’s role is pretty much the same, only she might be a bit more worried about not being able to find Danny or his friends anywhere to confront him about cheating. When she sees Dan (posed as Danny) for the first time, she might be a relieved at first, maybe even hugs him, before going into the cheating thing. She’ll also try to send the Boooo-merang, but again, the odds for it finding Danny in the future are very slim since he’s in the human realm.
Also regarding Sam and Tucker: if they return, they end up tied to the sauce at the Nasty Burger like in canon. But if they’re still with Clockwork when Danny finds him?? Hoo boy, just you wait.
The final battle with Dan is the big present-day difference:
Danny likely doesn’t have the Ghostly Wail, so unless he learns it like right after Dan uses it against him, Dan will probably win and ensure his future (particularly if Danny fights him alone).
But if Danny has allies (regardless of how he got them/who they are)? You better believe the odds go up in his favor. That’s a whole lot of organized firepower, and it leaves Dan with only 2 truly useful powers: the Ghostly Wail and duplication. But Team Danny did a lot of training. Heck, the ghosts probably told Danny about the Ghostly Wail, so even if he doesn’t learn it/hasn’t actually seen it yet, they can all be prepared to take cover or whatever when Dan uses it.
What’s more, while most of the team is fighting Dan, a small group (either humans with ecto-weapons or w/ghosts’ help) can free Jack, Maddie, Jazz, and Lancer (and Sam and Tucker if they’re tied up, too; otherwise they’re probably leading this whole group). Now they got all the Fentons fighting Dan (and a much more motivated Danny).
Basically, Team Phantom wins and then some.
But consider this: in any of the scenarios where Sam and Tucker are fighting Dan alongside Danny from the get-go, something glitches in the plan and while they’re able to defeat Dan, they’re not able to save Danny’s family + Lancer. And for whatever reason (either Dan defeated him or he just decides to let this one play out or whatever), Clockwork doesn’t reset the timeline.
What does that leave Danny with? Two best friends (and possibly some allies, maybe even future!Valerie (which is a whole ‘nother rabbit hole to dive into)) that support him through the grief and loss. Perhaps they make him feel less alone, and he grows stronger bc of this and learns some lesson about the value of friendship or “some such nonsense.” 😉
But maybe Danny doesn’t see that lesson. Maybe Sam and Tucker are there to see him struggle with this new reality. Time after time he tells them that he’s afraid of turning into that monster, and no matter what they do, they watch as their best friend slowly evolves not into a Dan created through a fusion of two ghost halves, but a (still half-ghost?) Dan bred out of fear, anger, and self-hatred. Not the same Dan as the original; perhaps something much, much worse, and much more personal (YOU try shooting your evil best friend when you know there’s still good in him, you hope).
And yet another alternate ending to all this (bc apparently I can’t be stopped): perhaps Dan does survive the Nasty Burger fight and sees his goal through of stalling Danny just long enough to see the Nasty Burger explode and ensure his future (or so he thinks). He just isn’t able to defeat all of Danny’s allies. Heck, maybe they’re even able to free the Fentons + Lancer in time. All that’s for certain is that when the Nasty Burger explodes, Dan vanishes, leaving Team Phantom with their Ultimate Enemy™️ at large (and likely still with a time medallion).
Enter the Resistance Cell AU (and the opportunity for me to work in DS9 references): all the survivors of the Battle at the Nasty Burger band up behind Danny, and while everything’s fine in the world at first, they immediately start hunting down Dan to try to stop him before he can screw things up again.
This, of course, is way harder than it sounds (and depending on Clockwork’s status/willingness to help, could be even doubly so).
Depending on the original battle’s outcome, Danny might be motivated in part by a desire to avenge his family (which could lead to some conflict within the group). In any case, he’s definitely motivated to not turn into Dan, though sometimes he needs reassurance from Tucker and Sam late at night.
The way I picture it, Dan slowly sends the world into chaos yet again, with Team Phantom usually one step behind him. (Though maybe, they’re able to at least form some relief teams to help victims after they hear about an attack and try to gather clues to hunt him down? And maybe these victims join the team and help the fight, and maybe Dan doesn’t end up as powerful this time.)
But to go the angsty route, Dan basically gets a second chance to take over the world and GZ, and ten years later, the only thing stopping him from achieving complete domination is an undercover resistance group led by a young man who’s kept his vow to never become like him.
The only thing is, Dan has an ally of his own this time around (one more powerful than the Fright Knight): Vlad Plasmius.

SEASON 8 EPISODE 2 A KNIGHT OF SEVEN KINGDOMS
Tumblr media
At first, I was a little disappointed with Episode 2, but after watching it again, the episode grew  on me and the disappointment disappeared. I guess I just want more action and the battles to begin.  But crucial things did happened. More reunions and lots of scenes centered around people pondering their upcoming deaths. I think a better name for he episode would have been  “The things you do for love.” Agree?
The episode started strong. Jamie before the “high” council with Daenerys and Sansa ready to kill him. And why not? The King Slayer killed Danny’s father and Jamie betrayed Sansa’s father. This resulted in the death of Sansa’s parents, her two  brothers and her suffering at the hands of Joffrey and Ramsey.  I thought Jamie’s reply was strong and he did tell them some valuable information: Cersei lied and  no Lannister troops are coming, she has 20,000 sell swords from the Golden Company and Euron Greyjoy’s fleet. During the scene, Bran says “the things we do for love” which is a recurring theme in the episode. Obviously, Bran was  referring to Jamie pushing Bran off the tower for his love of Cersei, but also so much more. How many key events were driven by love? As the episode continues, we see many of those.
Brienne comes to Jamie’s aide and convinces the others to let the King Slayer live and help them. Interesting that Her Grace turned to Jon and asked what the “Warden of the North” thought. Did Danny do that to appease the North, appease Sansa or out of love? Always the cool one, Jon said they need as many men as they can get. Lots of intense stares. Later in the episode, Jamie pledges himself to serve under  Brienne’s command and to protect the left flank. Jamie does know military strategy-will that help them survive?
We also have Daenerys looking to strip Tyrion of his “Hand of the Queen” status. Later, Jorah Mormont comes to his defense. Danny sends Tyrion down to the crypts. Does that mean he and all the others sent down there for safety with survive? Can’t see that happening. What we do see is the continued rise of the importance of Jorah Mormont.  The Queen trusts him and Sam gives Jorah Heartsbane, his family’s Valerian steel sword. Remember, Jon has Longclaw, the Valerian steel sword which Jorah’s father gave him. One has to think that each sword will play a key role in the battle to come.
After the sparks last week, Arya and Gendry consummate whatever their relationship is. Before that, Gendry tells Arya what the Red Priestess  wanted with him, that he is Robert Baratheon’s bastard son and has King’s blood. Could this result in Arya becoming  pregnant and the only heir to Ned Stark?  That  child could make a claim to the Iron Throne!
Along the way,  we have Jamie coming out to apologize to Bran in the Godswood. I think this scene was one of the high lights of the episode.   Both have changed.  If Jamie hadn’t pushed Bran out the window, Bran would still be Bran and Jamie his old ruthless. Bran tells Jamie that he is no longer Bran and “not angry at anybody.” But to me the key line was when Jamie asked Bran why he didn’t rat him out, Bran said “You wouldn’t be able to help us in this fight if I let them murder you first.” Jamie then asks what about afterwards, to which Bran says “How do you know there will be an afterwards?” WOW. What the F–? First, since Bran has seen into the future, we have to presume that Jamie helps in the fight. Does Jamie  save Brienne or kill Cersei? Does he lead the attack on the Golden Company? But what about the line “how do you know there will be an afterwards?” Is that a reference to Jamie dying or the Night King winning? How much of the future does Bran know? What do you think?
Interesting side note. When Jamie and Tyrion get together and Jamie asks the Imp how the Northerners  feel about their new Queen, Tyrian replies they remember what happened the last time the Targaryens brought dragons north. That is fake news as Aegon the Conqueror did not bring his dragons north. The King of the North, Torrhen Stark, headed south with his army and when he saw the destruction from the Field of Fire, he bent his knee to Aegon at the banks of the Trident. Don’t they think some of us know that? No fact checker?
What is also interesting is that Tyrian is so sure that Daenerys is different from her father. Is she? We have seen her fits of rage and Tyrian’s mistakes. So can we TRUST his judgment on this one? And then there was his comment that at least Cersei doesn’t get to kill him. Such intrigue with Bronn heading north. The writers love doing that to us!
What did you make of the private meeting between Sansa and Daenerys? It seemed as if they were about to come to an understanding of TRUST until Sansa asked Her Grace what will happen what happen to the North after she wins the Iron Throne? After all, the North declared its independence and doesn’t want to be ruled by outsiders. True that! Did you see the look in Danny’s eyes and her contorted face as she withdrew her hand from Sansa’s? Her face became one of a Mad Queen full of lust for power! After Sansa says men do stupid things for love, Danny was clever by replying that maybe Jon manipulated her into coming North and that she did it for love. After all, the things you do for love.  Of course, at this time, neither Sansa or the Mother Dragons know that Jon is really Fire and Ice. Just as later in the episode, the conversation is interrupted and the question left unanswered.
What was with the girl with the grayscale? She reminded the Onion Knight of Shireen Baratheon. Remember, the Red Princess burned Shireen alive as a sacrifice to change Stannis’ fate. Didn’t work back then. Does the arrival of this young girl mean that the Red Princess is not far behind? Could be.
Later in the episode, we learn the military strategy which they think will help defeat the Army of the Dead. One big difference is that this time, Sansa is involved. And then finally,  Bran explains it all and why it has come down to this. To win, the Night King must fall. But he must expose himself, and we will do so  as he is coming for Bran. The Night King wants the endless night and to erase our world. To do this, he has to kill  Bran because Bran has the memory of all that has happened. Found that fascinating. I guess the Citadel and all its books are not enough! The Night King knows where Bran is because when Bran screwed up, it resulted in Bran carrying the Night King’s mark. So the solution? Lure him into the open into the Godswood. Okay, but Theon and the Iron Borne as Bran’s protector? Not  true born Starks??? Get the irony? LOL! Bran nods his approval-he knows something. But what? And in this scene, we see that Jon is acting strangely towards  Daenerys, because he knows the truth of who he is. Always have to watch the side glances.
Question: with so many references to the Crypt being safe-how can it be? Can’t TRUST that conclusion.
And then out of the blue we have a Ghost sighting. The appearance of Ghost did nothing for me. First, he way too small for a direwolf and looks like a regular dog. And he didn’t do anything. So why bother? Just to keep us direwolf fans happy? Most of us who read the books agree that the show has wasted the true value of the direwolves.
Then we have the death watch. Everybody getting together in groups telling stories, drinking.  As Ser Brad Roller  texted me “We’re going to die tomorrow, what should be do with our last few hours?” Good chummy scenes, but I won’t go into them as each of you can make out what you think of them. In my opinion, the best one was Jamie “knighting” Brienne.
Before I get to the scene with Daenerys and Jon, I need to talk about the song which is making all the social media posts. Pod sings “Jenny’s Song” which highlights “Jenny would dance with her ghosts. The ones she has lost and the ones she had found. The one who had loved her the most.” The song’s origin is in a pre-quell about Duncan Targaryen who gave up the Iron Throne for his true love, Jenny. And of course, we see so many characters who have found and lost love, and after the battle, many loved ones will be lost. So the song fits. It also begs the question: Will Daenerys give up the Iron Throne for love? Will Jon?  I don’t think Danny can do it.
Now on to the scene where Jon tells The Mother of Dragons his real name and who he really is. In the  Crypt, in front of his mother’s statute, Jon tells Daenerys that Rhaegar did not rape Lyanna. The truth is that Rhaegar loved and married Lyanna and gave birth to Jon. That is real name is Aegon Targaryen. Rather than believe and be  happy to learn that her father is not a rapist, Danny reacts in the opposite as she does not want to believe it. Look at her face and expression when she says between gritted teeth “If it were true, it would make you the last male heir to House Targaryen. You would have a claim to the Iron Throne.’ Not the rightful claim, just “a” claim. All that Daenerys has worked for all her life, could go down the drain. She is clearly upset but  before we hear  Jon’s  reply, the scene is interrupted by horns blowing. Both go outside and we know they see the Army of the Dead arriving. But as they look out, they nod to each other and leave together, presumably to get their dragons. So were more words exchanged on the way out that we didn’t hear. They do appear to be on the same page. I  say yes, and all is good between them. After all, the episode was about love. If not, look out for Mad Queen!
And then we see it. The Army of the Dead with its commanders up front has arrived. But no Night King. He must be flying above on Viserion looking for Bran.
I want to bring another thing up. When Daenerys describes her brother, she says that everyone told her that Rhaegar was decent and kind. She clearly could never  understand how that image of Rhaegar could jive with him having raped Lyanna. Doesn’t that remind you of how Jon couldn’t understand how Ned Stark,  the most honorable man in the world, fathered a bastard child and lied to him all his life? To me, The parallel is striking. In a different world, Rhaegar and Ned could have been good friends.
So again, after a second viewing,  a very good episode. But it looks like the reunions and comforting words are over. The Army of the Dead has arrived. How long can Winterfell hold on? Looks pretty dire inside its walls. Not much to eat and nerves strained. Who will crack first
So next week, GAME ON and I will see you on the battle field!!
