my thoughts on episode derision
OKAY OKAY OKAY
HOLY FUCKING SHIT. LISTEN.
That episode was such a fucking ride! Just like many others, this kinda hit home for me too!
First off, you all know me- I’m such a huge fan of Kim because I love what a clown and idiot he is and see him like a himbo. But MY GOD. Throughout the episode, I wanted to fucking murder him. I wanted to tear him apart for the way he treated Marinette. I know that he wasn’t trying to be malicious and that he’s one of those people (before he apologised and decided to change) that believe that everyone should have the same humour of him and that he doesn’t have to respect boundaries and shit like that- BUT I WANTED TO THROTTLE HIM. HE IS ONE OF MY FAVES AND I WANTED TO KILL HIM!!!!!
People always forget how brutal 12/13 year olds can be whether the kid is being intentional or not! But I’m so, so SO glad Kim apologised afterwards and decided to change for the better. Mad respects to him! I’m so glad he understood what he did was wrong and the way he thought was wrong too.
As for Chloe.
Oh my dayssssss- CHLOE.
Genuinely, to some of you people- how can you believe that she would ever, ever do something nice or kind for either Marinette or Adrien out of selflessness? She TORMENTED Marinette and pretty much everyone else for like four years! I already knew it was bad from what was hinted beforehand in the show and never understood the whole ooc “hmmph! ofc i knew lila rossi was lying and dupain-cheng is telling the truth that’s why i’m on the latter’s side and now will be her new bestie BYEEEEE alyA!” fics.
She is such a horrible person and I LOVE HOW MUCH WORSE SHE’S GETTING. She’s just so lucky that Adrien vented out most of his angry steam against Dark Cupid before meeting up with her otherwise I doubt she would even be alive hahahahaahah! It’s just so insane when you realise how she pretty much controlled the ENTIRE school, especially those USELESS ASS TEACHERS. It was pretty realistic and makes me wanna scream! Man- Alya and Adrien joining the school really did change not only Marinette’s life for better, but pretty much everyone else’s in the school! Those two really are amazing!
And there’s Adrien.
OhhhHHHHHHHHHHHH EVERY HEADCANON I HAVE OF HIM IS BECOMING TRUER AND TRUER WITH EVERY EP! GO ON YOU OVERPROTECTIVE SLIGHTLY YANDERE BOY WHO IS TRYING TO DESTROY ANYTHING THAT HURT THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE!!!!! I felt like his anger and the way he first reacted was so Chat Blanc of him and it just resonated so well with me. His first thought every time someone hurts someone he loves? MURDER. And I fucking LOVE IT. GIVE THAT BOY SOME DARKNESS. DARK ADRIEN AU SO REAL LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
He was so overprotective, so patient, so sweet with Marinette and just so understanding <3 He absolutely has been observing her from the start when he started school and knows the best ways to approach her and talk to her and ugHHH <3333 THEY ARE SO PERFECT! He’s so happy and loves being by her side but he cares about her wellbeing and happiness the most and finding out how much she suffered in the past???? UGH LILA IS SO LUCKY HE DIDN’T FIND OUT SHE THREATENED MARINETTE.
And also, his wording to Marinette towards the end really struck me. The whole thing of his fears, mainly the “I’m afraid of losing you”. I believe that this may be foreshadowing in the future...
AND AND AND! THE WAY HE ENDED HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH CHLOE!??!!? DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE THAT WAS SO SATISFYING!!!!!!! I have been WAITING for this MOMENT! YES KID! CUT OUT THE TOXIC PEOPLE OUT OF YOUR LIFE! PROTECT THE GIRL YOU LOVE! EVEN IF YOU DON’T GET TO MURDER LIKE YOU HOPED TO LOL. Again- she’s so lucky that Dark Cupid got the worst brunt of his anger because if Chat Noir came face to face with her first? I doubt she’d still have a face after that.
I’m just loving how we’re seeing him becoming more overprotective, impulsive and immediately choosing murder over and over again this season and I really feel like we may be seeing Chat Blanc again sooner than later AND I AM LIVING FOR IT. I genuinely feel like something horrible is going to happen to Marinette and he will LOSE it.
And then there’s Marinette!
Oh my god, poor, poor Marinette.
She wasn’t just bullied- she was fucking tormented. For over three years straight. And pretty much no one was there to help her or protect her from her situation and she went through so much fucking shit! She was so traumatised to the point where she has become the way she is!!!! Her hyperfixation with Adrien wasn’t just because she loves him- it’s so she doesn’t get hurt again! My heart fucking broke for her! THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT FALL FOR DUMBASSES MARINETTE!!!! I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WERE LIKE 12/13 BUT GIRL!!!!!!!
Her life was literally in such a dump and it didn’t help that her parents probably didn’t realise the full story of it and that the teachers were so fucking useless and UGH!!!! Marinette literally went through such a horrifying experience and it’s no wonder she has PTSD!
I’m so glad that she at least had Soqueline <33333i fucking adore Soqueline she’s the big sister that Marinette probably always wanted! She should have been a temporary miraculous holder honestly! Girl tried her best to protect Marinette and even got suspended unfairly! I LOVE YOU SOQUELINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <33333333333333333333
I just hope that soon, SOON Marinette will realise that she’s so loved and that she’s surrounded by people who want nothing but the best for her <333 She was hurt by malice and hate in the past but now she’s surrounded by love and kindness <3333 And Adrien was hurt by grief, solitude and abandonment too but now he’s surrounded by life, love and friends <33333

~~~~~
“Kaalki, voyage! Divide! Spots off!” Marinette stumbled through the portal into her room and froze.
Oops.
“Young lady, what do you think you’re doing?”
She squared her shoulders and faced her parents. “Surprise?”
“Why didn’t you tell us?” “I couldn’t because…magic. But since I’ve just taken Hawkmoth and Mayura’s Miraculous, I guess now I can? Maman, Papa, I’m Ladybug, hero of Paris.” And Grand Guardian, she added silently, crossing her fingers behind her back.
“That’s why you were- oh, sweetie, if we’d known…” Sabine’s arms wrapped around Marinette, Tom engulfing both of them from the side. “I’m so sorry, honey. But you said you have Hawkmoth’s Miraculous?”
“I’ve settled with him,” Mari said grimly. “I don’t need to be Ladybug anymore.”
“He’s…you didn’t…”
“No, no, he’s still alive. I did punch him several times before I fixed everything, though.”
“As you should’ve,” Sabine nodded proudly. “You know we would have understood if…” she trailed off again, the whole situation making her usually chatty mother at a loss for words. “I’m sorry.”
Tikki flew out from behind Marinette’s back. “It’s not your fault for not knowing, Mme. Cheng! The Miraculous magic does a good job of keeping its wielder’s identity hidden. You should be proud of the- your daughter! She is the best Ladybug I’ve ever worked with!”
Tom and Sabine stared at the kwami in shock.
“Maman, Papa, this is Tikki, my kwami. She’s the ladybug kwami of Order, Creation, and Good Luck.”
~~~
After supper, once some of the shock wore off, Tom and Sabine had a good long talk with Marinette about the past five years. Tears and laughter were freely expressed as they were finally able to be openly emotional.
Luckily, school had just ended three days ago, so Marinette didn’t have to get up early for school. Once Nadja Chamack and Ladybug reported that Hawkmoth and Mayura were finally defeated, most of Paris shut down for the week to vent. The weeks after would be soon enough for celebration.
Mari explained the whole situation with Lila, and how Chloe and Kagami were the only friends she had left.
Now that Hawkmoth was gone, she could freely leave Paris. She still loved the city, but it had taken too much from her, and she needed a change. Tom and Sabine agreed.
“We’ll move to America,” they decided. “Your uncle Jagged is from Gotham; he’ll know good universities for you to attend.”
~~~
Jagged was ecstatic to have Mari closer to his home, and eagerly loaded her up with links and places to check out. He offered to write her letters of recommendation for whatever she wanted, confident in her abilities to pursue her dreams in any field.
A realtor friend of his found a shop with living quarters above it, like their current house, in a good part of town and for a decent price. After some renovations, it would be a dream bakery.
She could attend Gotham Academy for her Grade 12 credits and graduate in December, thanks to the way her French requirements translated to American credits.
It didn’t take the Dupain-Chengs long to pack up, sell the bakery, and fly to Gotham, New Jersey. Not a word was said to her former classmates. Only Chloe knew where Mari was, and she’d never tell. After her apology and joining of Mari’s squad, she was mostly ignored by the others. Chloe and Kagami were saddened to see their best friend leave, but knew a new environment would be more conducive to her healing and growth.
At least they had video calls and texts to keep in contact.
~~~
While the renovations were being completed, the Dupain-Cheng family shacked up at Jagged and Penny’s Gotham mansion. It was nowhere near as large as some of Gotham’s Old Elite family’s mansions, such as Wayne Manor or Drake Manor, but it was definitely sufficient for the five of them (six, counting Fang).
Mari had a lot of fun working with Jagged and Penny on his new album, both on songs and styling. She was recording background vocals for Jagged on a bonus track when her parents stopped by the built-in studio.
“Mari, you sound amazing, sweetie! I can’t wait to hear the rest of your songs! We’re going to the bakery to check on the renovations, and then have a lunch date; we should be back around two. We can bake your birthday cake with you then, if you want?”
“Sure, that sounds great. Have fun!” Mari hugged her parents quickly. “Oh, did you get the lemons for the peel garnish?”
“Oh, no, we didn’t. We’ll pick them up on our way home. Love you!”
“I love you too!”
Months later, she was glad those were the last words they shared.
“Marinette, honey?”
She glanced up at Penny’s approach, flipping through a catalogue for inspiration for Jagged’s new suit. Why was Penny crying?
“There was a bank robbery. Your parents were helping some kids hide when…I’m so sorry, sweetie.”
Marinette didn’t want to believe it, but some intuition in her gut told her that Penny was telling the truth. She collapsed into her arms, weeping.
~~~
The next morning, Mari emerged early from her room. Though she knew she didn’t have to, she explained anyway. “I’m wearing red, not black, because it was their favourite colour on me, especially after they found out I was Ladybug. Penny, do you think it’s possible for me to have died yesterday as well? And then can I become legally emancipated? I was researching last night…this morning, I guess, and I think I’ve got things figured out. I just want you to check them to make sure they’re sound and y-you approve.”
She would not break down, dammit. She had a life figured out and she needed to follow it now.
Jagged started to speak but Penny cut him off with a warning glare. She’s coping…she’s used to bottling up her feelings…she just needs some time.
Penny took the papers and flipped through them. “This looks legally sound; you’ve put time and effort into planning this. You’re a strong, smart, talented young woman; I don’t know why you shouldn’t be emancipated.
“You do know we’d love to adopt you though, right?” Penny asked carefully. “If you’re worried about being a burden, please don’t be.”
“Yes, I know. I appreciate it, but…not now. I can’t.”
“We understand.” Penny patted her shoulder comfortingly.
Jagged snapped out of his shock. “You’re welcome to stay here as long as you want, Mari! Pen’s right, we’d love to have you as our daughter officially, but in our hearts it doesn’t matter. We’ll sign anything you want.”
“Thanks, Aunt Penny, Uncle Jagged. I do have a few more papers for you to sign.” A thick file, carefully organized and colour-coded, slid along the breakfast table. Penny figured that Mari hadn’t slept all night; not that she could blame her. “Name change, legal emancipation, property transfer…” she flipped through the tabs. “Most of these we can get filed pretty quickly. Jagged’s friends with a judge here so we can probably get some things moving a bit quicker, too.”
“Great. Thank you.” Mari poured a mug of coffee, gulped it down in four sips, and poured another before leaving the room. Penny shivered, but figured if there was ever a time for overlooking something, it was now.
~~~
Thomas Dupain, Sabine Cheng, and Marinette Dupain-Cheng died on July 8th. On July 9th, Mara Stone was born.
She bought the partially-renovated bakery and had it finished as a studio/sewing shop, with the top level furnished as MDC’s headquarters.
Mara decided that since she had a new name, future, and school, she’d change everything. Chloe, Kagami, and Penny (and sometimes even Jagged) went on shopping trips, helping her furnish her new living and working quarters and replenish her much-picked-over closet.
For a girl’s date, Kagami and Chloe dragged Mara to a spa, where she was transformed.
Her waist-length blue-black hair was chopped down to a stylish bob, the white-tipped ends just brushing her chin. Her bangs had grown out over the past couple months and now simply added layers to frame her face.
Her closet was now more befitting of a fashion designer, departing from her white, pink, and grey, and containing reds, blacks, blues, and a multitude of colours.
Courtesy of Chloe, she could now walk in heels without tripping, which, when heels became a staple in her wardrobe, added several inches to Mara’s stature.
Jagged and Penny often spent weekends driving to the beach for Marinette to practice swimming and attempt to face her fears from Syren. She was soon swimming like a duck and gained a nice tan for the first time in a while, a light spray of freckles blossoming over her cheeks and shoulders.
For the entire summer, Mara stayed away from anything Ladybug-related, beyond feeding the kwami.
But once the school year was just around the corner, she pulled out the Miracle Box from the depths of her closet.
She wanted to rotate the kwami, so they could each have turns being out of the box. If the Bats let her, she wanted to join them on their patrols sometimes. Maybe they would introduce her to Wonder Woman, who could introduce her to Hippolyta.
How to get their attention was the question…
Ideas filled her head as she walked home, her arms full of fabric to work on Jagged’s upcoming tour outfits, as well as hers and Penny’s– plus the spiffing up she wanted to achieve for her Gotham Academy uniform.
“Gimme yer money, lady.” A gun was shoved in her face from the dark alley.
“Sorry, I spent it all on fabric,” she replied cheerily, nodding at the bolts in her arms, preparing to kick the robber’s gun hand.
Robin swooped down, punching the man into incapacitation.
Plan D it is!
“Oh monsieur, merci beaucoup! Vous m'avez sauvé la vie!” Mara gushed, playing the part of helpless, frightened tourist to perfection. Hugging a shocked Robin and air-kissing his cheeks, she slipped a tracker on his utility belt, underneath a compartment, where she hoped it wouldn’t be immediately found.
“Ma’am, you shouldn’t be out alone so late.”
“Oui, oui,” she nodded shakily. “I was shopping and ah– how to say– lost the time,” she laughed self-deprecatingly, shrugging her shoulders. “Merci beaucoup.”
With a wave, she headed back in the direction she came from, just in case he decided to follow her. Luckily, he seemed to be called somewhere and left after watching her turn the corner to the more populated Diamond District.
Once she was sure there was no tail on her, she ducked through the streets and back lanes until she reached Miracle Designs, her shop. She didn’t want to be known as MDC here yet. After she graduated and had time to handle large orders, then she planned to announce her identity.
Mara stored her fabrics on their appropriate shelves, locked up, and portalled back to her room in Stone Manor. Why all the Gotham Elite’s houses were [surname] Manor, she wasn’t sure, but she thought they deserved more creativity if they were going to go to the trouble of naming their houses.
After supper, she helped wash the dishes, then told Jagged and Penny she was transforming and going out for a bit.
Pulling out the receiver for her tracker, she saw that its last signal originated from a house just down the road…Wayne Manor.
Ha! She was right!
She’d suspected the Waynes were the Bats for a while now. They had excuses, alibis, even Bruce Wayne and Batman in the same place at the same time. The public were convinced there was no way the Bats were the Waynes, except for a handful of hard-core conspiracy theorists.
But as someone who had a secret identity and access to magic, she knew how easy it was to create excuses and body doubles. If the Bats were really as smart as they seemed to be, it would be a piece of cake for them to keep their two personas separate. Especially if they had access to alien tech via the Justice League and were filthy rich, with access to elite tech and disguises.
Martian Manhunter was a shapeshifter, was he not? It would be easy enough for him to impersonate either Bruce or Batman, especially since he worked with the Bats. Trixx had done an excellent job of illusioning Marinette and Ladybug talking to each other before- it wasn’t that hard.
“Kaalki, voyage!”
Mare portalled into the Batcave, internally fangirling just a tiny bit. It is real!!!
She stepped around the corner, hands up. “I wish to speak to Batman.”
“How did you get in here?” Gotham’s Dark Knight asked, hand on a Batarang.
“I made a portal. Have you heard about Paris?” “What about it?”
Mare explained the situation from the past five years, ending with her retirement as Ladybug. By then the entire Batclan had gathered and were listening in shock at what had transpired, things they had no idea about.
“We never heard a word about that.”
“So, which…Miraculous are you using, and what’s your vigilante name?”
“The horse. It creates portals. My name is Mare.” Mara had specifically chosen Mare as her name, since it sounded similar to her civilian name and she could brush off an accidental reply to the wrong name.
“Let’s spar and see how you do,” grunted the Bat. “I’m not putting someone in danger under my mantle.”
Violent coughing sounded from the cluster of Bats behind him, which he ignored.
“You pass,” nodded Batman approvingly.
Yes! All her training paid off!
“You can join us when you wish, as long as you give us a heads up. Oracle will give you a comm so you can connect to our channels so no mishaps occur.”
“Was that you or your Miraculous?” asked Robin.
“My Miraculous suits protect my body and give me power-ups and magical abilities, but I have to call upon them to use them. My fighting skills are all me, Bird Boy.”
Robin’s jaw dropped. “Bird Boy?!”
Mara wondered if maybe she shouldn’t possibly insult her new coworkers and boss’s son(?) before she’d even officially joined the team, but her worry was allayed a moment later.
“You even screech like one!” cackled Red Hood, pointing at Robin derisively. The Bats quickly descended into anarchy.
It made a little ache appear in Mara’s heart and she absently rubbed at her chest. She missed her old friends and team at times like these, even if they’d outgrown each other long ago. “Voyage.” In the chaos, she escaped to her room, where she cried into a pillow.
~~~
Miracle Designs was decorated in creams and neutrals, with pops of colour dotted around, creating a rainbow for Mara to live and work in. The kwami had had a hand in decorating and deciding what things would look like, and now everyone was happy with their new living situation.
Gotham Academy was a twelve-minute walk from MD; a nice stroll most days. Penny had completed the enrollment signings and picked up her uniforms the week previous; now the only thing that remained was actually attending the academy.
Occupied with creating the Stones’ tour outfits, revamping her own wardrobe and uniforms, and adapting to life on her own, Mara was far too busy to accommodate commissions at that time. MDC’s website asked for her clients’ patience while she settled in North America, much to one Tim Drake-Wayne’s sadness.
~~~
Mara woke bright and early, having had a good sleep for a change. Still, she needed her coffee. On her first week in Gotham, she discovered a lovely coffee shop that sold an amazing blend of energy– Goth Bean, it was called.
She threw on her uniform and headed down the street to Goth Bean. Luckily, it was on her way to the Academy. She requested her usual order, the barista growing ever more concerned that there were two coffee zombies in this city (or as she called them, combies).
Mara Stone strolled into school unnoticed and slid into an empty seat in her first class. Picking a boy to attempt to befriend–he looked like he needed her coffee more than her– she turned to the tired boy she sat beside. “Macaron? I have some gluten-free ones, if you prefer. I’m Mara Stone, by the way.”
She’d cried all the night before as she made the macarons, the first and last year she made them alone before her first day of school.
“Thanks. Tim Drake.” He took one, sniffing it cautiously. “These smell as good as Alfred’s!”
“Is that a compliment?” she asked teasingly, handing him her coffee.
He looked at it, then her, perplexed.
She shrugged. “I drank half, but you look like you need the remainder more. Don’t worry, it’s not poisoned or whatever. Neither are the cookies, by the way.”
“Thanks.” He still looked at her suspiciously, but chugged the coffee anyway. “And yes, that’s a compliment. Alfred makes the best cookies…I think you should have a bake off. I can judge.”
Marinette snickered, ducking her head when the teacher entered the classroom.
Maybe she could make some new friends after all.
She found herself in classes with Tim all day, except for one period. Compared to Europe’s curriculum, the classes were a breeze (though they would’ve been harder if she hadn’t studied English until she was fluent in it.)
She noticed Tim also whipped through the work, completing most of the homework in class; it turned into a friendly competition. Although, noting the glint in Tim’s eye, she second-guessed the friendly part of the competition.
Their teachers noticed, groaned inwardly, and wondered what they’d done to deserve having Tim Drake in their class, together with the new student, and apparently in academic rivalry.
However, the new girl did keep the Wayne kid from taking over the classes somewhat, so maybe this wasn’t all bad…
The first half of their classes were spent doing the work and quietly heckling each other, the second half mocking the curriculum and planning ways to better teach the school (their hypothetical students would hate them unless they were also certified geniuses).
The other students found Mara nice, especially when she distributed cookies; she was also found terrifying, especially since she got along too well with Tim Drake!
The third day of school found the two coffee addicts pairing up to work on a project.
“I’d offer to go to my house, but my brothers are…extreme. Can we go to yours, or somewhere like a coffee shop, instead?”
“Sure, my place is fine. Leave now?”
“Sounds good.”
They walked to MD, Mari taking him in the back way so that her designs wouldn’t be seen or disturbed. “This is me!” she said brightly, changing from her kitten heels to her house slippers.
“Nice place,” agreed Tim, looking around. “Is that- do you have two Keurigs?”
“Yep, I need them a lot. Do you want some of my magical energy brew? You look a bit sleepy.”
“Sure; what’s in it?”
“Trade secret,” she winked. “Want to spead the work on the table over there while I make it?”
“Sure. What were you thinking for the format?”
“Wow, this is a magic energy boost! I love coffee,” sighed Tim.
“Thanks, I added a little extra just for you.” It’ll help keep you safer.
~~~
“Whatcha lookin’ at, Timmers?” Jason flopped over his chair, twisting unnaturally to see the screen.
“Move, Jason. You’re heavy. I’m looking up a classmate; she’s new and I need to confirm she isn’t a threat.”
“Boring.” Jason left to find Dick to bug.
Hmm…interesting.
~~~
“Hey, Mara. You finished the project?” Tim slid into “his” seat beside her, sliding a to-go cup from Goth Bean across the desk.
“Yep, you?” She gulped the cup in twenty seconds, impressing and worrying Tim.
“Are you okay?”
“Of course! Why not? I was just up late working on some art.”
“Uh huh. Late being another definition of all night?”
“Like you’re one to talk,” she sniffed. “I do it all the time; I’m fine.”
“What type of art?” TIm ignored the truth Mara pointed out.
“An outfit for my uncle. I design clothes for him and my aunt sometimes.”
“Oh cool. So you’re into fashion?”
“Yep. I like to design and make clothes. My ex-friend was a model for his dad actually; it’s kind of funny. I guess birds of a feather flock together.”
Tim looked at her, then back at the board. “Who’s your favourite designer? Mine’s MDC– I dunno if you’ve heard of them– they’re still pretty niche, but they put so much attention to detail into their works. I’ve been trying to commission them forever but they haven’t been open in ages,” he moaned into the desk, missing Mara’s double take and choke on her coffee.
“I don’t have a favourite designer currently, but I do agree with you MDC has some nice work.”
“Nice work? I’m offended on behalf of MDC. They put so much work into all their designs!”
Mara sunk into her seat more and more as Tim defended her alter ego to her face.
Tim’s mental file on Mara gained several more notes.

Happy birthday to a bastard I cannot tag because they literally deactivated their blog days after our first interaction. Anyway go read their fic, it's really good, I promise. They're currently writing a prequel about Gabriel's days in the circus

What They Don't Know Won't Hurt Them
What they don't know won't hurt them by RemmiCreates
“Hey Marinette” he said with a soft smile, scooting to the side so that if Marinette wanted to, she could sit next to him. “What are you doing out this late?”
She smiles, “I was going for a walk, school has been pretty hectic recently, I, Uh, saw you sitting here and I thought I'd go and say hi!” She says, throat was taught, like normal, when she spoke to him. And ‘hi’ most definitely not what she first said to him here, but he wasn't going to comment on it.
“What are you doing out so late, A-Adrien?” She moved and sat down next to him, bag clutched against her lap.
He hums, facing away from her for a moment. Marinette was always the person he could be honest with, both as Chat and as himself, he could talk to her.
“I was feeling-“ he huffs, leaning back against the bench. “I was feeling claustrophobic, I guess. Just wanted out, didn't really think of where I was going, ended up here.”

Miraculous Ladybug - Instalment 3 - Costume Change
Vermilion grabbed the Cat Boy by his tail, setting them down on a roof. Honestly, it didn't understand what he had been thinking. Did secret identities mean nothing to him?
"Who are you?" He demanded, holding his staff at one end in a doublehanded grip like a sword.
"We are Vermilion." There was buzzing, before a small section of the mask opened and a single ladybug fluttered out.
It landed on its finger and Vermilion buzzed to it. It took off and Vermilion swung into the stadium, wrapping the yoyo string around Stoneheart and creating a mandala reminiscent pattern from the News Crew's view.
The Ladybug crawled into the clenched fist and Vermilion let go of the yoyo when a purple butterfly flew from the fist. Stoneheart was covered in churning purple mist before returning to a human.
"Mundare." Vermilion buzzed, activating the purification function on the yoyo.
Cat Boy was flexing and talking to the civilian whilst looking smug, ignoring the victim entirely.
"You are Media Crew, yes?" Vermilion buzzed as it landed on the side of the helicopter lightly.
"Yes, I'm Nadja Chamack from TVi News! Are you our new superhero?" The lady asked, holding out a microphone excitedly.
"I am Vermilion." It pulled a card from one of its pockets. "I will answer your questions on the date specified."
"Thank you, Vermilion!" Her eyes were wide as she accepted the card carefully.
"It is my job." It gave a nod before dropping back down and landing in a crouch next to Ivan. "Hello. What is your name?"
"My name is Ivan." He said, looking around at the damage caused to the stadium. "Did... Did I do this?"
"No." It shook its head, glancing at its yoyo before giving a buzz.
A marble popped out, it rolling it in its palm before tossing it up with more buzz than words. Ivan looked amazed and relieved as the ladybugs erupted and fixed all the damage.
"Can you explain to me what you remember?" It buzzed, sitting down next to him.
"One of the boys in my class, Kim, made fun of a poem I was trying to write for this girl I like. I started feeling angry, but he gave me this really rude note... I was so mad, I almost wanted to hit him. I remember seeing this butterfly go into the paper, and then it's all foggy and all I can remember is rage." He ended up explaining, Vermilion sitting and listening silently.
He looked much calmer once he'd finished, Vermilion nodding.
"I think, you should give her the poem you wrote, and a gift she would enjoy." It said, offering him a note with instructions. "I guarantee that even in the 0.02% chance that she doesn't feel the same way, she will still greatly appreciate the thought put into it and will be open to a closer friendship."
"Okay." Ivan read the note. "Um... what's your gender?"
"We are an omen." Vermilion said, him freezing.
"That is terrifying." He managed to say, Vermilion offering him a bracelet.
"I try my best." It said, Ivan accepting the bracelet.
It ignored the journalist wannabe that tried to pester it for information, swinging off with Ivan once he was comfortable.
"Do you wish for me to explain to your humans what has occurred?" It paused, Marinette trying to toe the line between odd-and-recluse and I-lived-on-Saturn-and-have-only-arrived-on-Earth-recently-so-I-might-make-mistakes.
"No thank you, Vermilion. I think I can explain most of it." He said, Vermilion giving a nod of acceptance.
"If there are any questions you don't know how to answer, then I will be communicating with the Nadja Chamack from TVi News on the date specified." It handed him a card similar to the one it gave Nadja. "Have a productive day."
"Have a nice day." Ivan replied, waving.
----------MLB----------
"I feel like I made a fool of myself." Marinette groaned, face planting on her bed. "I made a fool of myself, didn't I?"
"You did great, Marinette!" Tikki cheered. "You took charge of the situation and comforted the victim afterwards with time to spare. And you even set up an interview to explain the situation on your own terms."
"I don't like Cat Boy." Marinette lamented.
"He's not one of Plagg's Chosen, he's a very bad Black Cat." Tikki agreed, snuggling down next to her on the bed. "I like our Vermilion Persona! Very blunt and to the point, but also very empathetic and reassuring. You did a good job!"
"Thank you, Tikki." Marinette sighed softly.

Chapter 2: Permanent Heroes, Animaestro
A/n: Okay, since I’ve gotten a HUGE comment from both the old story and the new, I actually DID feel bad for the crap that Adrien went through in the original story, but he was eventually gonna be redeemed, learn a few lessons in and join the team. Just was going to go through some stuff along the way (it’s what I get for reading too many salt fics with Adrien being shat on doh!). But that’s no excuse. I almost wanted to place up the tag Adrien / Chat Salt in and go with the plan I had in my head but…I guess you’re right. SO IN FAIR WARNING, Adrien is going to be going through a tiny bit of shit (as Chat, not so much as Adrien himself) BUT he shall have some back up of his own like Marinette…Might include Nino, might not.
…But this mean that another character is gonna have a bad time.
Besides Lila, I mean.
…Whoops?
Anyways, things to know about this story:
For the My Hero Academia timeline, this is gonna take place at the very end of Season 3, which is the Shie Hassaikai Arc. I shall also follow the English Dub of the Miraculous show, meaning the kids are in high school like Deku and them. Not middle school / collége.
Most characters WILL be OOC. It’s just for the storyline to work, since this is an AU and all. It won’t be following both the Miraculous and My Hero lore. Sorry if that disappoints ya’ll.
Lila Bashing and Salt. Period. With some other salts for characters but I won’t be spoiling it. Everything happens for a reason.
Kwami swapping things. Not everyone will get the Miraculous as they did in the show. Sorry.

“Shopping? That’s our excuse?” Marinette asked as she sat in between Chloe and Sabrina, already telling the Driver the address to Master Fu’s place.
“What? It was a good basic excuse and no one would question it. Besides, what kind of excuses did you use whenever you had to transform into Ladybug?” Chloe asked before Marinette was opening her mouth, but then closed it with a defeated look, “Exactly,”
“So, we’re meeting with the Guardian of the Miraculous huh?” Sabrina asked with wide eyes, looking curious and also a bit nervous, “D-do you think we’re in trouble?”
Even Chloe looked slightly panicked but covered it up with a scoff, “Oh please, I’m sure he’s going to tell us that we’re going to have our Miraculouses. Of course I’ll be given Pollen and maybe the Master will give you something, Sabrina,”
“Y-You think so?” The ginger’s eyes widened as she fixed her glasses a bit.
“You won’t be as amazing as I am since I have been Queen Bee for a while…” Chloe trailed off for a moment before looking back at Marinette, “Why haven’t you been giving me a chance with being Queen Bee lately anyways? You’ve always trusted the Stupid Fox and Shellhead more than me…it’s been a while since Heroes’ day…”
    “Er…”
   Should she tell the truth?
Tikki peeked from the bag of Marinette’s as she gave a look, telling her that it has been a long time coming.
“I…I guess I wasn’t sure,” Marinette explained with a sigh, looking to see Chloe with a frown and Sabrina with a confused look, “Everyone knows you’re Queen Bee, Chloe. Especially Hawkmoth. Meaning that he could find ways to use your loved ones against you. Manipulate you into his clutches—“
“I would never fall for his tricks! I’m not an idiot, Dupain-Cheng!” The blonde argued, but Marinette raised a hand up.
“Hawkmoth is dangerous Chloe. There had been a few times even I have been almost Akumatized. May I remind you of what almost happened today?”
     Chloe and Sabrina were quiet.
“There might be a chance you can never be Queen Bee again. Especially if there’s a chance that The Guardian knows that you guys know about me being Ladybug,” Marinette breathed out, softening a bit “I meant what I said that day, as Ladybug...you have the chance to change for the better. A-and I'm glad for it. I’ve seen you trying so hard these days it’s kinda surprising,” Although at times you tend to show off still as being Queen Bee, thus why I’m hesitating for asking help during fights, she would think solemnly.
“Y-Yes well…That was because Ladybug believes in me,” Chloe murmured as she looked to the side, almost embarrassed, “I’m pretty sure as yourself, Dupain-Cheng, you still think I’m awful—“
“Actually, I’ve noticed lately you haven’t been a total pain, complaining about something nor bullying anyone anymore,” The girl squeaked as Chloe growled, making Marinette laugh, “I just meant that there are moments that you do show that you are becoming a better person. Like how you don’t treat Sabrina as a servant that much anymore,”
Sabrina chirped, “She hasn’t asked me to do any of her homework like before! Only just help on the hard subjects. But er, I just realised that day when we were all working on a project together when Nathaniel was akumatized, was the reason you didn’t meet up with me because of being Ladybug?”
“Yeah…” Marinette laughed, remembering that day, “I still am sorry though for blowing you off without telling you,”
“If anything, I’m the one that should sorry for jumping the gun and thinking you’d be like the old Chloe and make me do all the work on the project,” Sabrina and Marinette laughed as Chloe shouted a ‘hey!’ in offense and they soon arrived at Master Fu’s place.
The three girls stepped out, Chloe then telling the Driver to take a drive around the city for a while until she called him. Once he left, the girls looked at each other for a moment, almost as if wondering what to expect when meeting the Guardian. Marinette soon lead the way slowly, her heart racing.
Of course she was feeling anxious of meeting Master Fu. This was sort of the kind of day she was dreading. When she was the one that got sloppy and someone found out her identity. She would’ve thought this was the kind of scenario she would have with Chat Noir, or even Alya.
     This…this was ever more nerve-wracking.
Once they reached the door, Marinette was knocking on the door. The door opened and the short Chinese man was standing there, smiling kindly.
“Hello Marinette. And to you as well, Ms. Bourgeois, Ms. Raincomprix,”
Once the girls were ushered in, it was a surprise when Chloe was the one that spoke up first. Well, it wasn’t shocking that Chloe would voice her say first. But what was the biggest unbelievable thing to happen in front of both Marinette and Sabrina was that Chloe was going on her knees, head bowed.
“I know me being the Bee Heroine is a mistake. I know that I’m the last person to be a hero to anyone considering my…attitude,”
Sabrina wanted to step up but Marinette held her back, shaking her head as Chloe continued to talk in front of Master Fu.
“But,” The blonde raised her head up as she stared at the man with determination, “I won’t tell anyone Dupain-Cheng’s secret of Ladybug. She’s the only person for the job to save Paris. And probably keep that mangy cat of a sidekick in line too. So please don’t punish her because of me and Sabrina finding out who she is under the mask. If you’re going to punish someone…”
Chloe gulped as she then closed her eyes, her head bowed again.
“Then punish me. I’ll renounce myself from being Queen Bee forever as long as you keep Dupain-Cheng as Ladybug so she can defeat Hawkmoth once and for all….I-I just only ask…that I say my final goodbyes to Pollen. That’s all. I swear to all my Daddy’s money…”
Marinette couldn’t believe it. Was Chloe being serious right now? What has gotten into her?
Master Fu just smiled, as he reached out and patted Chloe’s head, making the girl look up in surprise.
“Such bold words from someone so young. It does surprise me,”
“So…I’m not gonna have my memories wiped or anything?” Chloe asked slowly, as Master Fu chuckled.
“Actually, I have only asked for you and Ms. Raincomprix because I believe Marinette would need some allies to help in balancing her life both as Marinette and in her time being Ladybug,”
Marinette’s jaws dropped. While Chloe and Sabrina looked at each other in surprise.
“M-Master?” She stuttered as she looked worried, “I-I thought that no one should be knowing about identities and all? I mean Chat Noir still doesn’t know—“
“He will come in due time. It is not his time to know everything just yet,” Fu almost said sagely but then sighed, looking to Marinette, “I know that I have…placed so much on you,”
“Master Fu…” The Ladybug holder softened, as Fu was raising his hand up.
"Marinette, I have come to realize that you have done so much as Ladybug," Fu started, guilt clouding his eyes, "So much sacrifice you have made for the greater good, I have robbed you of your normal life for the sake of saving Paris...and putting so much pressure and burden to someone as young as you. And...doing it on your own,"
Marinette listened, as Fu touched her arm with a solemn look.
"I have lived my life alone and not trusting anyone and look where that landed me. I will not make the same mistake with you, Marinette. Especially when you are cleaning up from my past mistakes," Fu smiled softly "At least we could have people you trust to be part of the secret and be heroes at your side,"
“But…” Marinette looked to Chloe and Sabrina, as Chloe was stepping up with starry eyes.
“You can count on me! I did say that I will do my best to take my second chance at being Queen Bee seriously!” She declared, placing a hand over her heart.
Sabrina smiled shyly, placing with her index fingers a bit as her eyes casted down, “I-I’ll do my best. I’m not like Chloe, who is amazing as Queen Bee, bu-but I shall help you in any way I can, Marinette. You’re probably one of the few people t-that told me to stand up to Chloe a-and be my own self. So,”
She finally looked up, her eyes fiery and looking just as determined as Chloe.
“I promise to keep your secret and help you as both Marinette and Ladybug!”
A hum came from Fu, stroking his beard as he looked at the girls.
Marinette, on the other hand, looked a bit unsure. This has to be a mistake. If she had her own choice of having someone or two know her identity, it would’ve been someone like Alya or even Chat.
She did promise that she would tell him of her identity when Hawkmoth was defeated.
Sighing, she looked back at Master Fu, “So…I cannot tell Chat Noir about this?”
Fu’s smile fell slightly, looking troubled, “I shall handle that, Marinette.”
Marinette had a bad feeling about that. But the Master knew best…right?
“So I can have Pollen permanently?” Chloe asked in excitement, but then looked embarrassed at how eager she sounded and coughed, “I-I mean, is it possible, Master?”
“About that. Considering a lot of people, including Hawkmoth, know of your identity…it would be difficult to have you hold Pollen and be Queen Bee for a while. Or ever. I do not want you to endanger any loved ones you have,” Fu explained as Chloe deflated, but he then smiled, “However, just because Queen Bee cannot be a hero anymore, does not mean that Chloe Bourgeois cannot be another hero…”
The rich blonde tilted her head as the Chinese man continued, walking to his table where his tablet was.
“Ms. Bourgeois, I have seen you change for the better, little by little. Learning from your mistakes, showing such maturity and strength. Something I couldn't accomplish when I was your age. Your time as a hero is not over,"
"So...what does this mean? I have to use another Miraculous?" Chloe frowned, "Sorry Master Fu, but I'm loyal to Pollen and Pollen alone!"
Master Fu chuckled softly, "I had a feeling you'd say that, Pollen sure is lucky to be loved so much by someone as loyal as you. Which is why I'm teaching you this,"  He showed his tablet and was scrolling through the printed Grimoire, "There's still a way to be the Bee Holder, but not be Queen Bee...but first..."
He looked to Sabrina, humming a bit.
“Y-Yes?” The glasses wearing girl asked, looking surprised as Fu smiled.
“We shall find a Miraculous that would suit you best as well…”
Marinette watched as Fu talked to the girls about the history of the Miraculous and what to expect as heroes helping Ladybug, but then remembered something.
“Master Fu? Do you know there’s a new Horse Hero running around?”
Chloe and Sabrina looked up, gaping at her while Fu had a cheeky look in his eyes.
     “I do.”
Marinette felt a vein pop against her head for a moment, “Master…”
“I am sure he has explained himself?”
The girl sighed as she looked at the man, “Well kinda? I was told he was coming here soon—“
“There’s a new hero going around?!” Chloe was pushing in, staring at Marinette almost angrily, “What the heck!? And you didn’t tell me!”
“I only know of him today. Kirin, was his name…” Marinette said blankly.
Chloe huffed, folding her arms, “Well now, this is so unfair…”
“I have my reason of giving him the Horse Miraculous temporarily, but I am sure all will be explained as soon as he arrives,” Fu hummed, but then Marinette was concerned.
“Temporarily? Meaning he’s not gonna keep the Horse?”
Fu smiled, “He and Kaalki are not a perfect match like you and Tikki. I only gave him the Horse so he could assist you for the time being…”
“He said he got the Rabbit Miraculous but gave it back to you? Is that true?” Marinette asked as Fu nodded.
“He did. I was even surprised that he would willingly give up such a powerful Miraculous like that. But I am sure that he has his reasons. He and his mentor both have told me that they needed help from the Miraculous users,”
“He and his mentor? Why would they need help from us?” Marinette hummed, tapping her chin as she tried to think, but Fu shook his head.
“All will be answered in due time. But for now, let us focus on training,”
Chloe sighed, “Training huh? Is…is this going to involve sweating?” She asked, making Fu smile and making both Marinette and Sabrina giggle.
It was then that a window opened not far from them, and everyone looked to see Kirin jumping in coolly thanks to his portal.
Marinette paled, realising she wasn’t Ladybug at the moment but Kirin laughed a little, grinning knowingly.
“Don’t bother looking like that, I know you’re Ladybug. Just as I know that Chloe Bourgeois is Queen Bee…but I am surprised Sabrina Raincomprix is involved,” The horse hero hummed, as he then murmured a dismount under his breath as his transformation broke, and Marinette gasped.
    “H-Hitoshi…? You’re the Horse hero?”
“For now. Master Fu must’ve told you I’m just temporarily borrowing the Horse,” The purple haired male shrugged, as Chloe was raging behind Marinette with Sabrina trying to calm her down.
“…I should’ve guessed. It was too coincidental that a new student came on the same day as a new hero,” The pigtailed girl folded her arms and looked at him, “I guess you’re going to explain yourself now?”
Hitoshi nodded as he then breathed out, “My name is Hitoshi Shinso, that much I didn’t lie about. I only came to Paris to help the Miraculous Heroes and ask for them in return,”
“So…you’re not really studying to have a good career?” Marinette asked slowly.
“Oh, that wasn’t a lie. I am studying to be a hero,” Shinso explained and grinned lazily as he fed a sugarcane to Kaalki, “Japan has a school for young heroes like myself. It’s called—”
“U.A. HIGH SCHOOL FOR HEROES! That’s awesome!” A voice called by the window and everyone also looked back to see Nino covering his mouth, eyes widen and looking sheepish, “W-whoops…”
Marinette screamed, looking back at a surprised but not really surprised Shinso, her fear turning to anger, “HE FOLLOWED YOU HERE!?”
“…I wasn’t aware he was following me,” Shinso averted his eyes, trying to look innocent but Marinette was already marching towards him and shaking him by the collar while screaming how irresponsible he was.
Nino was jumping in, going between them while waving his hands, “L-look, it wasn’t Hitoshi’s fault!”
Marinette turned her fury to Nino, the said DJ sweating in fear as he continued his explanation.
“H-hear me out, Nette! Actually, a-after hanging out and showing him around the city, he said his dad called and he needed to get back home. Worried that he might get lost or something, I followed him. Wasn’t expecting him to turn into a Miraculous Hero of all things and I ran after him through his portal thing and I…ended up here and kinda heard everything? Heh heh…” Nino was rubbing the back of his head but then felt himself sweat even more as not only was Marinette angry, but so were Chloe and Sabrina.
“You eavesdropped on us, AGAIN PEEPING LAHIFFE?!” Chloe huffed, “Maybe you’re just more than a pervert sneaking into girl bathrooms!”
“T-that wasn’t cool, Nino! It’s really not nice to be listening into conversations that supposed to be a HUGE secret!” Sabrina agreed with a disappointed frown, as Nino was paled.
     “H-Hold on! I didn’t mean to! I just…I couldn’t stop listening and I know that’s bad but—“
Fu just watched in amusement while the two girls were berating the poor boy, then turned to Marinette, “Actually, this could be beneficial to us…”
Everyone just paused, as Marinette, Sabrina and Chloe looked comically confused while Hitoshi checked if Nino was okay, who was seeing his life flash before his eyes.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! This big mouth here?” Chloe pointed to Nino as she scoffed, “He totally can’t keep a secret!” She continued to argue, as Nino felt himself get pissed.
“OH yeah!? I so can keep a secret! I mean, bet ya didn’t know I am Carapace and Alya is Rena Rouge!”
Everyone in the room was quiet, with Fu still smiling, Shinso facepalming, Sabrina gasping, Marinette groaning with an exasperated call of his name and Chloe twice as angry.
“CESAIRE IS THE FOX FACE?!” She screamed, and Nino looked like he sucked a lemon when he realised he outed himself and his girlfriend, “Dupain-Cheng, why did you make such poor choices in heroes, huh?!”
“It was my decision, and—“ Turning to Nino, she pointed at him, “I’m starting to have doubts of you having any Miraculous in the future,”
“Why don’t we explain everything to our new friend here?” Fu said calmly as he patted Marinette, smiling.
Marinette knew that she had to come clean, not just to Nino but to Chloe and Sabrina as well. And Shinso apparently, since he was here. And so, she ended up telling them how she met Tikki, being the hero she was today and about Chat Noir. Might as well let everything out, right? Considering that Fu already considered training both Chloe and Sabrina.
Once she was done, Nino looked understanding, and so did the other two girls. Shinso remained quiet.
"I-I still can't believe you trusted me to be Carapace, Nette. I…” Nino felt himself tear up as he then breathed out, fanning himself from crying right there and then, “I-I’m so touched dude! T-thank you, a-and I won’t tell your secret! I solemnly swear on my DJing skills and my dreams of being a movie director!”
Marinette looked unsure. Chloe had a point. Ever since they were toddlers, Nino had a bad habit of blabbing and can’t keep a secret to save his life. Not as bad as Ivan, but still.
Chloe stood there for a moment, coughing to get their attention.
Marinette looked up as Chloe stood with her arms folded and looking serious.
"I am no longer your fan…"
Marinette looked surprised at this, as Nino was about to say something but Chloe stopped her with a hand raised up.
"But…" She continued, as the blonde felt her face flushed as three pairs of eyes stared at her, "I-I want to try…and be friends,"
Shock was an understatement. Marinette was dumbfounded at first, Sabrina and Shinso being neutral about it and Nino was slowly grinning.
"...I knew deep down behind the Queen of Mean act, you were still the same girl back in Pre-K that wanted to play with me, Nette and Kim!" Nino chirped while poking at her, Chloe blushing brightly and then waving her arms up in the air.
"BUT DON'T THINK THIS CHANGES THINGS—" Chloe started as she was swatting at Nino, who was laughing jovially.
Marinette tilted her head, then smiled softly, "...I'd like that Chloe,"
   And she meant it.
Maybe this was the sort of thing from Chloe she had been waiting for since middle school.
It almost felt like Kindergarten again.
Marinette looked towards Shinso and huffed, “Now it’s your turn to explain yourself,”
Shinso sighed, raising his hands up as he started his story. The only thing he told was he was joining an elite hero school and he was given a chance to join their course. His mentor was out at the moment scouting the city because he had his own mission to do and just mostly talked about how he was supposed to gather the Miraculous heroes before his mentor returned.
Once he was done telling all they needed to know, Nino grinned wide at Hitoshi, “So~ You’re training to be a hero in Japan huh? Like All Might and Endeavor?”
Wrinkling his nose for a moment, he nodded, “Er, in a way yes. My mentor figured that me recruiting the Heroes of Paris to come to our school would be beneficial—“
“Wait, wait, go to a hero school?” Marinette squeaked as she folded her arms, “Ladybug can’t leave Paris. Hawkmoth is still on the loose!”
“And that’s the deal,” Hitoshi stepped forward with a serious look, pointing at her, “Me and my mentor will help you take down Hawkmoth, and his new support, Mayura. In exchange, you give U.A. a chance,”
Nino was bouncing up and down, “T-that sounds so cool!”
Marinette raised a hand up for Nino to shush, as she narrowed her eyes, “Why would a hero school in Japan call for us now? I mean, we could’ve used real superheroes months ago when Hawkmoth first appeared,”
“Hawkmoth is an issue for the European government to deal with. They never want help from outsiders like America and Japan. So it’s why people like All Might and other top heroes couldn’t come and save you guys. Blame your high officials. You and Chat Noir are the exception because you guys are citizens here. And from what I hear, there’s not much heroes active in the European division. At least, that’s what my mentor told me,” Shinso finished off with a sigh, as Marinette hummed.
“…I don’t know. I think we’re good without going to some special school. No offence,” Marinette pursed her lips, “You wasted your time being here,”
“On the contrary,” Shinso smirked, “I like being here. It’s way more fun than in my school,”
Nino gasped as he then was punching Shinso’s arm, “How could you say that!? You’re so lucky to be in a school for future heroes man! What’s it like!? Ohhhh, you gotta tell me everything! Oh, oh! Wait ’til I tell Alya about all this—“
Marinette stopped him, “You can’t tell Alya about ANY of this!”
Nino’s eyes widened, his excitement deflating, “I…I can’t? But she’s—“
“No one is supposed to know I’m Ladybug or anything that Hitoshi has said. Everything here is to be kept Se-Cret! You can’t tell either about Chloe and Sabrina knowing about me or that they will be permanent holders, including yourself,”
“Wait, I get to keep Wyazz permanently?” Nino asked, his eyes shining as he didn’t catch the rest of it, and Marinette knew it with a sigh.
   “Nino, focus!”
   “Sorry!”
“Please, please, please, understand,” Marinette spoke seriously, placing a hand over Nino’s shoulder, “To protect the ones you love, you can’t tell anyone anything about ANY of this. Not even to Alya,”
“But…” Nino looked down, “A-alya and I never keep secrets from each other…”
“I’m sorry. If I couldn’t tell Chat Noir all this, then you’ll have to do the same…”
“What about Chloe? Her identity isn’t a secret!” Nino argued as Chloe huffed, flipping her hair.
“I’m been given a second chance, Lahiffe. Unlike you, I can keep a lid on my new status as a new hero and be trusted by Dupain—I mean, Marinette by taking this seriously. So yeah~”
Nino frowned deeply as he sighed, tipping his hat down and covering his eyes, “…Fine. Okay,”
“I’m so sorry Nino,” Marinette whispered softly, and Nino looked back up, smiling tightly.
“No worries dudette. You’re just being responsible is all. A-and I will keep a lid about you being Ladybug and everything else. I won’t break your trust, I promise,” He hugged Marinette tightly and breathed out, “I haven’t been a good friend lately, and we haven’t hung out as much either. But that’s all going to change!”
   Nino leaned back, grinning happily.
   “Especially since we’re heroes together!”
Marinette smiled, as she looked to Chloe, Sabrina and Shinso, her heart relaxed.
Maybe having some people knowing the secret and being a team permanently isn’t such a bad idea after all.
Tikki flew out from Marinette’s purse and smiled sweetly, “I’m glad you have such good friends here, Marinette~”
Nino’s eyes sparkled, as he then was rushing forward, “Dude! Are you Marinette’s kwami?”
"My name is Tikki, nice to meet you," The red spotted being chirped, as Nino was shooting out question after question like 'So how old are you really?' and 'How maybe Ladybugs has she gone through before Marinette?' and many others. Might as well know before his girlfriend does. It hurts him that he can’t tell Alya all this. This would go amazingly in her Ladyblog. But he did make a promise…
Tikki shyly floated up to Chloe, and waved, "It's nice to meet you again,"
Getting a good look at the creature, Chloe realized this looked like the doll she had picked up and had brought to Prince Ali of Achu. Boy, she felt so stupid.
"Likewise..." Chloe huffed, pouting a bit as Tikki giggled, knowing what Chloe was thinking.
“Now that we have settled matters,”
Everyone looked to Master Fu, who was holding his tablet with a smile.
“Perhaps now we could discuss the training plans for Chloe, Sabrina and our new friends Hitoshi-san and Nino here?”
Tumblr media
“She’s scared of cats~ But powerless without this feline~”
“Huh? That is so not true! I’m not scared of cats!”
Marinette frowned as she looked at the tablet in front of her, Nino sitting behind her on the bed, leaning against her wall while Shinso was laying upside down next to her, his legs propped against the wall.
Nino chuckled, “Never heard of a Ladybug being afraid of cats in my life. Right, Wyazz?”
The green colored kwami hummed as he relaxed onto the boy’s lap, munching on a lettuce leaf, “In the centuries that I’ve existed? No?”
The trio were hanging out in Marinette’s room since they have the day off from training with Master Fu. It has been two weeks since their last meeting together and Fu had already planned out the schedules to train the teens individually. Outside from training, the five of them had also tried to bond together, just for the betterment of their teamwork in the future. Luckily, there haven’t been any akumas around as of late.
Today, Sabrina was with the Guardian to figure out which Miraculous would match with her, along with training both her physical body and her mentality. Chloe said she had plans today and couldn’t really join in hanging out with the other three.
Speaking of, Marinette didn’t think that she would actually tolerate Chloe of all people. Actually, no. That wasn’t the right word. It was actually more of the fact it was almost too easy how close they had become. They were no longer fighting or snapping at each other. It was like their last year of being enemies had vanished. Sabrina was always a nice person, so she and Marinette got along fine.
Shinso and Marinette still were good friends and seat buddies in class, even when Marinette was still suspicious of the purple haired teen still keeping secrets from them. But Shinso explained that one day he’ll open up when he’s ready.
Was this what Chat felt like when she kept secrets from him?
Thinking about the cat made Marinette still feel guilty that she hasn’t told him completely everything, but at least Master Fu had shown himself to Chat and has explained some things to him. So at least there was that.
The biggest change though was Nino and Marinette’s friendship.
When it was usually Nino always seen with either Adrien or Alya, lately Nino had always caught up with Marinette and walked her home, most of the time invited into the Dupain-Cheng home for dinner until he was called back home. It helps that they lived a building away from each other, so Marinette also visits the Lahiffe home other than babysitting Nino’s little brother, Chris.
Marinette did miss hanging out with Nino like this, it almost felt like they were little kids again. When did they drift apart anyways?
She remembered that she, Chloe and Nino had grown up together since Kindergarten, but somehow started drifting away at the end of the elementary years. And then Kim came along with others like Max, then Rose and then Juleka and Nathaniel. Then there was the start of Chloe being the Queen of Mean, and Nino fading into the background while Marinette got to be the target of bullying by Chloe and became a shy wallflower. This was before meeting Alya too.
   Speaking of Alya…
“Does Alya know you’re here, Nino?”
Nino turned to look at the girl finishing up the trailer for the new Ladybug and Chat Noir animated movie, and hummed, “I did tell her that I’d be meeting up with friends. She said that it’s cool and that she’s meeting with Lila today for some girl time,”
“Aren’t you worried your girlfriend is hanging out with a pathological liar?” Hitoshi asked as he was throwing a bouncing ball to the ceiling and catching it, Kaalki watching in fascination.
The DJ sighed, “I tried telling her, but I think Alya either tunes me out and changes subject or she tells me that I’m being unfair. That I’m basically not giving Lila a chance since she’s a new girl. She even tried to play the guilty card of I’m sure you wouldn’t have treated me this way since I was a new girl too. Or when Adrien was also a new kid in class. If you could be nice to us, why not to Lila?”
Marinette patted Nino’s shoulder in sympathy.
“Besides, it’s sort of better this way. Now I won’t be half tempted in exploding to her that I’m keeping a huge secret like having a miraculous permanently and knowing her best friend is Ladybug…” Nino laughed loudly then sighed, thumping his head back against the wall, “It’s really hard keeping it all in, it feels like I’m keeping myself from barfing…Is…is this how you feel sometimes?”
Marinette was surprised when Nino looked at her sadly with guilt, and she looked sheepish, trying to assure him, “W-well…sometimes? B-But I try to just think of the positives. Like that I’m saving people everyday and that I inspire people. Like this movie,” She pointed to the screen showing the movie director of the movie talking in an interview about the movie.
Tikki floated up as she tilted her head, “You turned down an invitation to the premiere?”
“I’m a superhero, Tikki. Not a star~!” Marinette rolled her eyes up with a smile, then laughed, “It’s my job to protect the city and it’s people. Not sit around in a movie premiere,”
Hitoshi coughed for a moment, and Marinette narrowed her eyes when she thought she heard bullshit under his breath.
Tikki didn’t hear though and smiled, “Well said, Marinette!”
“Hey, isn’t that Adrien on screen? I didn’t know he voiced Chat Noir,” Nino pointed out and Marinette’s eyes bugged out as she glued herself to her tablet screen with a squeak.
“A-adrien?! ADRIEN IS GONNA BE THERE?!” Marinette yelled, then was crying into Nino’s lap as Wyazz moved out of the way, “Uhhhohhhnooooo, Ladybug should’ve totally said yes…”
Nino just patted her head in sympathy this time while the kwamis giggled, and Shinso  just rolled his eyes.
Getting a bit hungry though, the trio where heading downstairs when they heard Mister Dupain talking to his wife.
“So! We’ve got six hundred macaroons, plus eighty hundred petit fours…not to mention the Ladybug and Chat Noir tier cakes,” The man sighed, looking at his checklist as Marinette walked passed them to get something from the fridge while the boys waited behind her.
Sabine Cheng also looked worried as she sipped her tea, “We should’ve hired someone to help serve all these guests for the premiere,”
Marinette’s ears perked as she looked over, “DO YOU MEAN the premiere of the Ladybug and Chat Noir animated movie?”
Tom Dupain was nodding his head as he was still writing down things, “Yes—“
Marinette was grinning from ear to ear as she then was waving her hands up and down in excitement, “Oh! Oh! Me! Me! Me~! I can totally help you out with that!—”
Marinette squawked when she almost dropped the plates and snacks in her hands, juggling it for a moment before Shinso was quick to catch her before falling, at the same time easily catching the things she almost dropped with one hand.
Both Marinette’s parents and Nino were in awe at how flexible and quick Shinso’s reflexes were.
The girl thanked Shinso, looking embarrassed as she straightened herself up and the boy carried the stuff instead.
“Y-You mean…as a…server?” Tom asked slowly as his daughter nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes!” Marinette took the stuff back from Shinso, placing some fruits onto the plate, “I’ll hand the macaroons for Adrien~!….I mean ahhahaaa—”
Marinette almost dropped the stuff again if not for Shinso being behind her and steadying her body from falling over again while quickly grabbing for the fruits that almost fell.
Nino was starting to think this might be his quirk that he talked about. Despite Shinso saying that he has a quirk that future heroes usually have, he never said what it was. Was Shinso’s quirk just being agile like a cat? Or have Spider-Man powers?
“I-I meant to everybody of course~!” Marinette laughed nervously and Shinso was shaking his head, “Of course not j-just to Adrien! Cause Adrien’s not the only one th-that likes macaroons~!”
Sabine watched them for a moment with a smile, but spoke in a teasing voice, “And the fact that Adrien is going to be there has nothing to do with it, of course~?”
“Not a thing~ Like~ Haha….Not in the slightest!” Marinette was batting her eyes prettily with a cute smile,  swaying a bit, “I just want to help out my wonderful sweet parents who I love SOOOOO much~”
It was then the fruits, the snacks and the plates all fell over, and Shinso wasn’t quick enough to grab for them.
‘So much for being the next Spider-Man…’ Nino thought in dismay as he was quick to bend down and help Shinso pick the stuff up as Marinette giggled sheepishly.
Tom and Sabine looked at each other unsurely, and she got the picture.
“You don’t trust me…” The pigtailed girl sighed, her eyes saddened, bending down to help the boys clean up, “Then again, I’m such a klutz. Even I wouldn’t trust me…”
Nino looked at her for a moment before he stood up and spoke with a hand raised, “W-what if me and Hitoshi helped out too?”
Tom’s eyes widened and Sabine was surprised.
“You’d…want to help serve? With Marinette?” Sabine asked as Nino nodded.
“You seemed to have a lot on your plate and well, I know my man here is pretty quick on learning how to wait and stuff thanks to what you just witnessed~! And both he and I can keep an eye out on Marinette,” The DJ winked at Marinette and smiled, “Plus, she won’t be alone~! And we promise not to let her be distracted by Adrien!”
Tom was quick to say yes as Sabine smiled.
“That sounds like a good idea. At least you’d have friends around with you, Marinette,”
Marinette smiled in thanks to Nino, as she was reaching to hug him and then to a surprised Shinso, “Ohhhh this is going to be great. Thank you too!” She hugged her parents before dancing off and singing to herself while going upstairs, saying something about getting prepared before tripping on herself…again…
“This…is going to be interesting,” Shinso murmured as he looked to Nino, “You think we’ll be able to handle this?”
Nino laughed, bringing Shinso in a one armed hug, “C’mon~! What’s the worse that could happen?”
Tumblr media
“This is too tight. It makes me look weird,”
“You look fine, dude! Marinette did pretty good on these waiter outfits for us,”
Shinso looked down at himself as he was adjusting the black tie on him, dressed as a fancy looking waiter in black and white, just as Nino was in the same attire only he forgone the hat.
“You look different without your hat,” The purple haired teen pointed out, making Nino smiled sheepishly.
“You think? Do I look cooler? I mean I know I grew my hair out a bit…” Nino looked around, trying to find a reflection to look at himself, as Shinso was shaking his head with an amused smile.
The two then walked over to where the Dupain-Cheng’s were, already catching Tom telling him some last minutes things before the event starts. Marinette was already dressed in a pretty waitress attire, almost making Nino do a double take while Shinso did admit she looked nice with her hair in a bun.
“You know if Alya wasn’t my girlfriend, I would’ve swooned,” Nino whispered in a joking manner, “I bet Adrien will fall for her for sure when he sees her~”
Shinso’s eyes flashed for a second, but he just sighed, “I doubt that,”
Nino looked at him with a raised brow, but then heard Marinette whine.
“Dad! Moooom! I’m totally ready! Trust me! I’ll be super duper careful!”
Nino walked over and smiled at the Dupain-Chengs, “Yeah, and we’ll be behind her one hundred percent!”
Tom and Sabine looked at each other for a moment and sighed, before Tom took the empty tray that Marinette was using for practice and gave her the real tray of macaroons. Smiling brightly, she soon turned to serve some guests the treats, and Nino and Shinso were about to follow…until Marinette tripped on her own feet and was starting to comically dance around trying not to let the tray fall. Shinso was quickly on the move to catch her while Nino just saluted to the worried looking Dupain-Chengs and caught up to them.
It took a while, but thankfully the boys managed to stop Marinette from bumping into people waiting for the premiere to start, made sure she wasn’t dropping any of the macaroons and not letting her fall over. Shinso was most of the time catching her easily, while Nino tended to lessen Marinette’s load, charmingly gave some of the treats to the guests while gussying up to any potential movie directors and other people in the biz. After all, this was his chance to learn a few things for his future career.
Shinso, on the other hand, was getting tired running around to prevent Marientte from causing a disaster. Sure, he was doing this because Nino had dragged him into this…but he genuinely did want to help Marinette’s parents. They were nice people, and they treated Shinso so well when he was first introduced to them. Sabine thought of the boy being so skinny and pale that she treated him to a lot of their goodies while Tom was asking some questions about his life, trying to get to know him. It was not in a pushy way either, which Shinso was thankful for.  It was…natural. How caring and kind they could be.
It made Shinso think of his own family.
Marinette was honestly lucky to have loving parents like Tom and Sabine.
Speaking of the girl, she was getting another tray of macaroons to serve and Nino was letting out a relieved sound as he sat down, Shinso standing beside him.
“So far so good,” Nino panted as he gave a shaky thumbs up, “Man that girl is a typhoon. Thankfully we’re here to keep an eye out for her, huh? So far, she hasn’t dropped a single macaroon….”
Shinso looked up for a moment, then smirked a little, “Looks like that’s gonna change…”
“What do you…?” Nino looked up and he felt himself pale, “Oh no…”
Coming to the red carpet was Adrien freakin’ Agreste.
“Uh oh…” Nino gulped and whipped his head around to find Marinette, only to see her jaw-slacked and face beet red.
“She’s seen him,” Shinso chuckled as he glanced at Nino, “Our workload just doubled,”
“…Why did we agree to volunteer for free?” Nino grumbled but then stood up and was raising a fist to Shinso, “Looks like we’re up,”
Shinso bumped his fist to his and grinned, “This is almost as challenging than fighting in the Sports Festival,”
Nino snickered, “Dude, maybe even harder than beating up a bad guy!”
Nino and Shinso laughed but soon were alert when Marinette squeaked and was now moving around like the Road Runner, her head down on the ground looking for something. Nino and Shinso chased after her, not noticing Adrien’s smile fading and his waving hand drooping, disappointed at not being seen by them.
Adrien had waved to Marinette just a minute ago, but soon she started running off like her usual self. And to the blond model’s surprise, he noticed Nino and that new kid were here as well.
Ah well, maybe he could go over and talk to them after greeting everyone and a few more pictures.
‘They look like they’re having fun…’ Adrien thought with a strange ache-y feeling in his chest.
Tumblr media
Nino blinked as Marinete was now on the floor, Shinso grabbing the tray from her as she started crawling away looking around like some dog sniffing for a bone.
   “Lahiffe? Shinso?”
The two boy looked up to see Chloe folding her arms, then glancing back at Marinette frantically crawling under people’s legs while apologising.
“Mind explaining what you three are doing here?!” She hissed at the boys, narrowing her eyes and grabbing the front of their ties, “You’re totally embarrassing me here!”
“…So this was the “important event” that you’re attending today,” Nino huffed, “Man! You could’ve invited us, ya know?”
Nino glanced over to see Shinso following after Marinette once he placed the tray of macaroons on the table, and Nino knew that Marinette’s in good hands.
“And watch you three just now going around like baboons in the zoo playground?” Chloe sighed, “In case you didn’t notice, there are important figures here! A place  to social with the biggest connection and further your status and I want to make a good impression since you know, I’m the Mayor’s daughter~?”
“Fair point. But it still would’ve been coo to know you were going to see the movie and invite a few pals~” Nino then glanced over to see Shinso helping Marinette up from the ground, the two talking as Marinette was showing something to him.
Chloe looked at the two as she hummed, leaning to Nino, “Soooooo~? Are they, like, a thing now or…?”
Nino snapped his eyes to her and laughed, “H-Her? And Hitoshi? Chlo, that’s…that’s crazy! Marinette likes—“ He covered his mouth, perking Chloe’s interests.
   “She likes someone? Who?”
   “I can’t tell you!”
Chloe raised a perfect brow with a look.
     “…Really?”
“I’m not falling for that Chloe! I ain’t gonna spill! I’m not the same kid that has a big mouth anymore!” Nino whined but soon blinked when Chloe screamed, “W-what’s wrong?”
   “Oh NO!” Chloe gasped.
“Not her!” Marinette whined at the same time, as Shinso blinked and looked where the girl was looking.
There, coming into the theatre was a middle aged blind Japanese woman in a kimono being escorted by a beautiful Japanese  short haired girl also dressed in a red and black attire.
Shinso looked like he was going to faint right there and then.
Marinette turned to look at him, her jealousy placed on hold for now as it turned to concern, “Hitoshi, are you okay?”
Snapping out of his stupor, he turned to the girl and then smiled shakily, “Er, y-yeah…I’m fine…”
Nino and Chloe walked over to them as Chloe huffed a little, “I despise that girl!”
“Who is she anyways?” Nino asked as Shinso answered.
“Kagami Tsurugi. A famous fencer from Japan,” He spoke quietly as Nino looked at him.
    “You know her personally?”
Shinso shook his head, “Not really,” But he kept staring at her.
It made both Nino and Marinette confused at his strange behaviour.
The four of them watched Adrien and Kagami chatted with each other happily, until Kagami looked over to them. Narrowing her eyes, she soon was reaching to hug Adrien’s arm, the blond looking confused but smiled nonetheless. The two walked away and both Marinette and Nino had to hold Chloe back from going after them with claws and all.
“Okay!” Chloe turned to the three and slammed her fist into her hand, “We need a plan!”
“W-what do you mean a plan?” Marinette asked in confusion as Chloe growled.
Soon the rich blonde was rushing around grabbing a paper from some man and stood next to Nino, “A plan! You know, a seat chart at the theatre!”
She looked down at the plan then gasped, showing it to the trio.
“I don’t believe this! Adrien and Kagami are going to be sitting next to each other while I am two rows behind! Utterly ridiculous!” Chloe folded her arms, tossing the paper away in a huff.
“Well we don’t have seats ourselves so sucks to suck, Chlo,” Nino stuck his tongue out as Chloe poked at his chest.
“I’ll get all three of you seats into the movie if you help me get Kagami away from Adrien!” She said with a smirk, as Marinette looked unsure.
“W-we can’t do that!” She protested, and the blonde moved close to her face.
“Remember what you told me once, Marinette? All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good guys do nothing,” Chloe then gestured to Kagami, “So today~! The evil is her! And the good guys are us!” She pointed to herself and Marinette.
Marinette bit her lower lip, “I-I’m not sure about this…”
Chloe sighed, “Fine. Keep being unsure. But tomorrow Adrien and Kagami would be on a plane to Japan!”
Nino and Shinso could see the gears turning in Marinette’s head.
Shinso sighed, “I don’t think that will happen,”
“What makes you so sure?” Chloe asked with her hands on her hips, facing the Japanese teen.
Shinso looked back at her and raised a brow, “Agreste doesn’t suit her,”
A lightbulb dinged in Nino’s head as he gasped, grabbing at Shinso’s shoulder and shaking him, “Duuuude, do you like Kagami?”
Shinso’s face morphed into shock, “W-what?” How did he get that conclusion?!
Marinette’s eyes sparkled as she then gasped, “You do??? Is that why she was looking over at us? And you were staring at her, oh my gosh!”
Shinso was swearing in Japanese as he shook his head, “N-no! Wait a minute—“
A cat like grin came onto Chloe’s face as she then was tapping her fingers together like a villainess, “Alright I have a new plan~ We should get Kagami to notice Shinso here and get her to fall for him~ So that way, Adrien will be free from her clutches~”
Shinso was paling now, waving to get their attention, “H-Hold on a moment—“
“Aw it would be real romantic if their eyes met and had a moment~! That single connection that made their hearts beat~! That would be so sweet!” Marinette sighed, but then shook her head and coughed, “F-for Kagami and Hitoshi! N-No way I was thinking of Adrien and me— I-I mean I just don't want Adrien to leave Paris that's all ahahaha—“
Shinso sighed, his face looking tired and knew Nino wasn’t going to listen to him as he had this look that said he was all for the plan. Something about ‘hooking up his bros with their ladies’ or something like that.
‘What’s the worse that could happen, my ass!’
Tumblr media
   The plan was a failure.
Shinso had to watch in slight fascination and tiredness as Chloe’s convoluted plan for Kagami to sit on some cake with gum stuck on her shoe so Shinso could rescue her while Marinette distracts Adrien blew up in Chloe’s face. Turned out, Marinette was gifting some passionfruit macaroon she made especially for him but somehow she ended up having it knocked out from her hand when Adrien turned frantically as his father’s assistant Nathalie was calling him, and she ended up crawling away to find the fallen macaroon. This ended up Nino trying to help her, but ended up tripping on the string when Chloe pulled to make the seat that Kagami was supposed to sit on move. Kagami ended up being called by her mother, thus the girl moved away from the spot she was supposed to be in and…well….
It ended up the Movie Director being akumatized.
“How did this even happen?!” Chloe screeched as she was pulling at her hair and Shinso looked at her.
“No time, we’re gonna have to help Marinette find a place to transform,”
Nino followed after them as he panted, “S-should we…?”
Shinso shook his head, “Marinette should handle this for now. Let’s just help the guests out of here and not get hurt,”
“Right!” Chloe nodded and soon she and the boys were heading off to make sure no one stayed inside the theatre and helped everyone get to safety.
Shinso managed to get a hiding place for Marinette to use, and continued on his duty. It wasn’t a good idea to have any other heroes out for now unless it was absolutely necessary. At least that’s what Master Fu said. Better not give Hawkmoth any ideas that there might be more permanent Miraculous holders out and about besides Ladybug and Chat Noir. So for now, Nino, Shinso, Sabrina and Chloe did their best to be heroes in their civilian lives by doing the little things like this.
Once the three were out, they looked up and saw that Chat Noir just arrived with Ladybug to fight with Animaestro.
“Cool. I guess we head to the Master’s place until things are over with?” Nino looked at the two, as Chloe was already calling for her car to pick them up.
“What about the movie?” Shinso asked as Chloe scoffed.
“So not worth it if Queen Bee didn’t make it to the cut,”
She then texted Marinette to meet up with them once she was done, deciding to just have a movie night of their own with Sabrina back at Chloe’s place.

you reap what you sow
prompt from @mialuvscats : i hope this meets your expectations ! im sorry this took so long, i tried uploading it from my phone but it glitched and i could only get my hands on the computer today
i’d like to say that i think if sabine and mari are there, damian and talia willl be relatively looser and not as uptight . mari and sabine are cold but loving and sunshiney. they keep talia and damian in check, essentially. which is why i wrote them in to be loose and free but able to be openly happy when they want to be, even if they are only happy around each other.
with sabine here i also thinkt hat talia will be slightly easier on damian, which also ties to the fact that he will not be as cold and uptight.
talia will be a good mother in this fic bc i want her to be and itll be ooc but its okay its my fic anyway
and the timeline is kinda messed up and all over the place sorry
that aside, have fun reading and i hope you enjoy!
--
talia and sabine are best friends, and before most of the class joins francois, marinette ruled the school after coming to paris with sabine. mari and damian are betrothed and the two are best friends. they can be icy one minute and sunshiney the next, although the sunshiney part is more mari than damian.
maybe the waynes come to paris, bc if theyre in gotham the others wont really know if the queen is back, and theyre kinda unsure why marinette is being timid and very unlike her ice queen demeanor she sometimes uses. mari is closest to jason in terms of batfam because firstly maybe she cleanses jason of the lazarus pit after helping damian using tikki's creation magic to counteract plagg's destruction one. since the waynes are here theres no point in mari hiding her queen status anymore and queue lila reveal
-
Talia al Ghul and Sabine Cheng were an unlikely combination, but worked perfectly well.
The two women were extremely close. Sabine was almost as deadly as Talia, but she made up for it with her devious mindset. She was the one who steered Talia away from doing anything wrong --well more wrong than usual-- and the one who was assigned to dish out punishments to usurpers.
The two could read each other like open books, and hence, when both Talia and Sabine became pregnant, Talia one month before Sabine, the two knew immediately.
They had debated whether or not to have their kids be betrothed, and eventually decided to let their children make the final call when their kids were old enough to understand.
Nine months later, Marinette and Damian were born. In the League infirmary, an hour after the two were cleaned and left there to rest while their mothers did the same, the two had already grown rather close.
Their baby cribs were next to each other, and somehow they were staring at each other through the walls of the crib, and were making small grabby hands to the other.
When Talia and Sabine were sufficiently rested and came to pick up their children, they were slightly shocked, yet gratified by their children. Sabine smiled and draped an arm around Talia’s shoulder, smiling lazily.
“I guess they’ll be as close as their mothers, non?”
Talia smirked, and the two walked forwards, lifting their respective children in their arms and walking to their quarters.
-
The two mothers did not regret it. Their kids were enamoured with each other, practically joined at the hip.
By the time Marinette and Damian were 5, they had a very extensive vocabulary, since they had learned to speak Arabic, French and English. They were also extremely smart and skilled with weapons.
Marinette was extremely adept at using a yoyo. It seemed weird, I know. But when the League was stormed when she was 3, she had taken out 4 men with her yoyo alone. Since then, she had been teaching herself how to use the yoyo effectively.
Damian preferred to use a katana. He looked much scarier than Marinette, even if the two were the same age. He had found a natural talent in using blades, knives, katanas and daggers included.
Marinette was the Rain to Damian’s Fire.
She was the only one who could calm Damian down when he was mad, mad.
But make no mistake, Marinette could switch personalities in a heartbeat. She was one of the League’s most skilled interrogators at the age of 5.
After all, who would suspect a pigtailed 5 year old in pink to be scary?
Damian much preferred his stoic and icy attitude. The only people he ever let loose around was Marinette, Sabine, and Talia.
Talia and Sabine loved the children to an almost deadly extent, and the four were extremely overprotective of each other.
Marinette had taken to magic as well. She had been trained by many people in the League about sensing magic. Damian did not have the patience for magic and rituals.
Marinette knew Damian was more of a ‘attack first ask questions later’ type of fighter, a stark contrast to Marinette’s ‘i will curse you and you will suffer in agonising pain for the rest of your life’ preferred type of fighting.
She’d never really liked getting her hands dirty, hence the magic. Killing people with magic was so much cleaner.
Sabine and Marinette had to leave for Paris when she was 9. For what, she wasn’t sure, but regardless of the distance, she and Damian constantly traded calls and letters. They would never go even a day without contact.
They were staying with one of Sabine’s old friends. His name was Tom Dupain, and he was an old wrestler and had worked with the League before. He and Sabine pretended to be married and Marinette’s name had hence became Marinette Dupain Cheng.
Damian and Talia stayed at the League, although all of them knew that Damian was to meet his birth father when he turned 10.
Marinette adapted her icy demeanor in Paris, never wanting anyone to get as close as she was with Damian.
A few hours in, walking around Paris, she had met an elderly man in a red Hawaiian shirt, emitting the aura of magic. She had confronted him, and eventually, he opened up to her about the Miraculous. Tikki, the Ladybug kwami, and Plagg, the Black Cat kwami had taken a liking to her.
Marinette was apparently something called a True User, a reincarnation of the first Ladybug miraculous wielder. Plagg just rather liked the aura of death and chaos she apparently gave off, from the League.
She and the other Kwamis also had a rather amicable relationship, and she’d go to the ends of the Earth for the tiny gods, and vice versa.
The elderly man, named Fu, had also started to train her into becoming the new Guardian of the Miraculous.
Before, Marinette had been planning on laying low and not drawing atention to herself, but once she had beaten up two upperclassmen for bullying her classmate and somewhat accquaintance Nino, she had been fiercely regarded by both the students and faculty.
As a result, she eventually grew close to Nino, and his friends, Kim, Alix and Chloe. She only ever let down her icy demeanour around them, showing the bright and bubbly girl persona she kept hidden. She wasn’t as close to them as she was to Damian, but they were all still quite close friends.
It wasn’t long after that Marinette became the queen of her school, at the tender age of 10, earning her title as the Ladybug. Or, as Chloe liked to put it, the Lady, because she was lucky enough to ‘get a friend like her’.
Marinette didn’t protest. She rather liked Ladybugs, and besides, it was ironic and it reminded her a little of Damian, who sometimes liked to call her his Maribug. Because she was sometimes a pest, he deadpanned. Marinette had whacked him with a pillow.
Everyone in the school feared the Ladybug. No one knew anything of her past. She was a mystery, an enigma that no one could solve. When new students came in after Marinette turned 14, everyone was slightly shocked to see their Lady change.
She was much more bubbly and approachable. Word had spread around that Marinette, the Lady, was trying a clean slate for the new kids. After all, not everyone should fear her.
Probably.
School eventually returned to what it was like before Marinette became the Lady, although she did still rule the school, she did it much more subtly, with more restraint and secrecy.
One of the new kids, Alya, had taken a liking to her. Marinette did not like her  very much, she was loud and clingy and drew a lot of unwanted attention.
Marinette and her old crew, who had playfully called themselves her Consorts before the name stuck, had split up temporarily, to cover more ground and spread their branches.
Chloe was to pretend to be Marinette’s bully, Kim and Alix rivals, and Nino a shy recluse. They had had a good laugh about it beforehand, before watching Moana, because Kim wanted to compare the size of his muscles to Maui’s.
None of them had accounted for Adrien Agreste, who had tried to get the gum off Marinette’s seat like the naive, sheltered boy he was. Marinette had admittedly gotten mad at him for screwing up a perfectly good plan, before ramping up her ice persona to like, a 2/10, to get the newbies off her scent and scare Adrien away.
It hadn’t worked, because the boy was apparently as stubborn as he was naive. But besides that, Alya had been really grating on Marinette’s nerves, especially since she was convinced that Marinette had a crush on the model. It was not true, of course.
Honestly, Marinette thought dryly, as Alya dragged her all over the place to.. somewhere, she wasn’t even sure anymore. But frankly, she didn’t particularly care. Honestly, the only boy she’d probably ever have a crush on would be Damian.
Not that she’d ever admit it.
-
When Marinette and Damian turned 10, she and Sabine had taken a plane to Gotham to meet up with Damian.
Damian had not been having a good time. He was very much unwanted here, that was clear.
Grayson seemed to be the only one trying to interact with him. His father, had been trying his best to stay out of Damian’s way, which he reciprocated. Todd was flat out ignoring him and Drake just seemed to be busy all the time.
After all, who would want to interact with a grumpy 10 year old assassin?
He missed Marinette.
It was the day Todd finally tried to open up to Damian, that Marinette had arrived. No one had told him that she was finally meeting him again for the first time in a year. Sabine had left Marinette to figure out where Damian was on her own. She was more than capable of it.
With a quick scrying spell, she found him, and Kaalki opened a portal headed in the direction of Wayne Manor.
Meanwhile, Damian just appreciated the fact that Todd was finally extending an olive branch. He was lonely.
It hurt seeing his father care for everyone in the manor apart from him.
He had been walking along the gardens in the manor. Todd had joined him.
“Listen, I know it’s hard to feel accepted here. Sometimes, I do.” Jason gazed wistfully at the sky above him.
Damian was unsure of where the ex-Robin was getting at, so he just kept quiet. It wasn’t as if Damian didn’t know who Jason Todd was. Before he had come to the manor with Talia, he had read the Waynes’ files. In addition, Damian had known of Jason while he was affiliated with the League. They had never talked, or interacted, but he had known of the elder boy.
“I just, uh, wanted you to know that if you ever need anything, you can come to me.” He finished lamely, running a hand in his hair.
Damian opened his mouth, then closed it, hesitating. “Thank you, Ja--Todd. I will.” He settled on saying dryly.
Jason visibly relaxed and cracked a miniscule smile. There was a sudden ‘swoosh’ sound, and both Jason and Damian turned around, bodies automatically going on the defensive.
Stumbling out of Alfred’s rose bushes, trodding on a few accidentally, was Marinette.
“Angel!” Damian exclaimed, moving forwards to help her forwards.
She brushed her shoulders off, looking around before freezing, staring at something behind him.
“Jay?”
“Pixie?” He asked, sounding incredulous.
Marinette rushed forward and wrapped him in a tight embrace. Jason laughed and hugged her back, chuckling.
Damian quashed down the bubbling feeling of rage in the pit of his stomach and settled for casting a frosty glance in their direction. Not that they noticed, since they were too busy embracing each other, Damian thought scornfully.
The two pulled apart after too long in Damian’s opinion, laughing.
“Angel? How do you know Todd?” Damian asked coldly, ever so protective.
If Jason noticed the sudden reversion to his surname instead of his first, he didn’t say anything.
“Oh, he came to Paris with Lia once and I cleansed him of the Lazarus pit madness, like I did with you.” She replied.
“What are you doing here?” Jason asked. Damian had forgotten about that.
“Visiting, of course!” She winked. “Now, let’s give your old man a good scare.” She pecked Damian on the cheek before vanishing. (Thanks, Trixx.)
Jason and Damian looked to each other. “Did you know she could do that?” Jason questioned. Damian shook his head before pausing.
“Wait.. how did she get into the manor?”
The only response was the faint echo of a laugh.
-
It was time for dinner anyway, and only Damian, Jason, and Alfred knew of Marinette’s presence. Marinette had voluntary evelaed herself to the elderly butler after noticing his aura.
It was Miraculous tainted. If Marinette could guess, he had been either one of Duusu’s, Sass’s, or Nooroo’s.
When the butler had retired to the kitchen alone, Marinette had unraveled Trixx’s magic veiling her and waved at the butler.
To hi credit, he didn’t so much as bat an eye before his eyes widened as he took her in. Marinette cut to the chase.
“Who was your kwami?” Alfred had surveyed her for a second before seemingly trusting her.
“Duusu.” He answered.
Marinette smiled. “I’m Tikki’s.” From her perch in Marinette’s left pigtail, the red Kwami pried open the folds of her hair, waving once at Alfred before sinking back into the recesses of the bluenette’s locks.
Alfred blinked. Once. Twice. “I’m presuming you’re staying for dinner?”
Marinette beamed. “I’m gonna scare the big bat.” Alfred nodded, accepting this. Marinette clapped her hands and she disappeared again. Alfred shook his head, smiling faintly.
Conveniently, it was one of the times where everyone was there. Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian. Rare these days, what with Dick in Bludhaven, Tim at WE, and Jason off being Jason.
Bruce was currently on his way back from WE, although it would take around half an hour. He had told everyone to start eating first. Perfect.
After Marinette’s encounter with Alfred, she had reappeared in Damian’s room, where she and Damian caught up. Just like old times.
She had disappeared again once she left the room, and Damian wasn’t entirely sure where she went.
Alfred set the the table as per normal, which Damian and Jason noticed right away. They looked to Alfred, who merely winked before stepping back into the kitchen and laying out the food.
There was a screech of a chair as Marinette, disguised as Bruce (Trixx in her right pigtail and Tikki in the left) sat down. Dick looked startled.
“I thought you wouldn’t be back till later!” Dick exclaimed.
Mari-Bruce shrugged. “Faster than I’d expected.” She answered, securing the veil of Trixx’s magic around her vocal chords, making her voice sound exactly like Bruce’s.
Jason inched away slightly from Bruce, though she pretended not to notice.
Alfred nodded at her as he reentered the room.
Everyone dug in, occasionally talking. It had been about 25 minutes before the sound of the door opening could be heard. Damian and Jason’s head shot up, thinking it was Marinette.
Mari-Bruce smirked. Showtime.
Bruce entered the room, not noticing Mari at first. Until the batboys gaped at him. He looked confused. What--?
Mari-Bruce was a pretty great actress. “Who are you?” She thundered, internally laughing.
“Who are you? I’m Bruce Wayne.” He answered, looking befuddled and frustrated.
“Impostor.” Mari-Bruce accused.
Bruce spluttered. “No! I’m the real Bruce!”
Mari-Bruce scoffed. “That’s what an impostor would say.”
Damian and Jason seemed to figure it out, although they probably weren’t sure which Bruce was the real one yet.
Tim rubbed his eyes. “Am I seeing double, or?”
Bruce said, “Ask me something the real Bruce would know.”
Dick looked torn, but did as requested. “Who murdered your parents?”
“Joe Chill.” They both said at the same time. Mari-Bruce and Bruce winced, selling the act.
“When’s my birthday?” Tim asked.
“July 17th.” Both Bruces answered.
Tim looked surprised. “You actually know my birthday?”
“No shit, Tim.” Mari-Bruce said, rolling their eyes. She rather wanted to proceed to the next part of her plan.
“Would I say that to you, Tim?” Bruce asked slightly desperately.
“Maybe?”
Bruce facepalmed. In the confusion, Mari took the chance to slink into the shadows where she rewrapped Trixx’s invisible magic around her.
Only Damian noticed. He smirked. “Where did he go?” He asked, placing a hand on the hilt of his katana for emphasis. He didn’t see Marinette smile at him.
Everyone looked panicked. “Search the manor.” Bruce ordered.
Jason still looked slightly skeptical but did as he said. Damian drew his katanas and tilted it in the direction he was going.
Amongst everyone, Bruce was the most attacked. While Jason and Damian paired off, Tim and Dick did as well, ("Don’t go alone!” Was Bruce’s admonished cry), Bruce had gone alone.
If she were being honest, Marinette had always had a grudge against the billionaire. He hadn’t saved his son, he had tried to kill his son, even though he had a no killing rule --which Marinette thought was plain stupid--, and he had left Damian to suffer at the hands of Ra’s Al Ghul.
Talia could only do so much to save her son.
Yes, Marinette was aware that Bruce hadn’t know Damian existed, but now he was still treating Damian as if he didn’t exist. Marinette knew how much Damian craved affection, even if he never admitted it.
Yes, maybe Bruce was getting better, but maybe she could.. spur the process.
So Marinette retaliated in one of the many ways she knew how.
Messing with them.
So when the Waynes regrouped in the dining room, Jason, Damian, Dick and Tim came back unharmed, and Jason had been filled in by Damian of his suspicions. But Bruce?
He came back covered in honey and feathers, drenched with water and covered in pink slime.
“Why is he going after me?” Bruce had questioned in that annoying voice of his, after looking over his spotless sons.
Jason shrugged. “Maybe he doesn’t like you. God knows he’s not the only one.”
Bruce looked slightly hurt but Jason didn’t seem to care in the slightest.
“Maybe this person is infatuated with you and is vying for your attention.” Damian deadpanned dryly. Marinette had smacked him on the back of his head, still invisible.
But the damage had been done.
Bruce snapped his fingers and ‘aha!’-ed at Damian. “That must be it!” Bruce crowed.
“Are you that narcissistic, you arrogant plebeian?” Marinette’s normally cheery voice was dry and dripping with distaste as she unwrapped her magic.
Bruce, Dick and Tim immediately went on the defensive, shifting into a battle stance. Marinette only scoffed.
“If I wanted to harm you, I would have already done so.” Marinette waved a hand in their direction dismissively.
Dick looked confused. “You’re like, ten.” He pointed out.
Damian glared. “I am ten as well, Grayson.”
Tim butted in. “Are we not going to acknowledge the fact that this tiny ten year old broke into the manor unnoticed?”
That brought everyone to their senses.
They were suddenly surprised by Marinette running at Jason, full speed. They expected him to duck or whip out a weapon, but all he did was stand still as she flipped in midair to land on his shoulders.
To their utter shock, Jason grinned, even as she fisted her hands in his hair for a better grip.
Damian only smiled fondly at his Angel. She was as short as he remembered, Damian noted.
He missed her. More than anything.
Marinette beamed, and slid off Jason’s shoulders.
“Why did you attack me?” Bruce asked.  “Isn’t it obvious, fool?” Marinette revamped her icy demeanor and glared at the civilian Batman. “I despise you.”
Bruce looked very affronted. But Mariinette ignored him, even as he continued talking and made her way over to Damian.
“Damibear!” Marinette sang, as if she hadn’t seen him less than an hour ago.
The Waynes looked as if they expected Damian to attack her just for calling him that. They were not expecting him to grin and say, “Angel.”
Mari jumped on his back, and Damian merely repositioned himself accordingly, used to this from all her previous piggybacks.
“Okay so Jason and Damian helped her get into the manor.” Tim deduced, only to notice Jason and Damian shaking their heads.
“All by herself.” Damian and Jason chorused. Marinette made bunny ears on top of Damian’s head.
She kissed Damian’s forehead lovingly, replying to his ‘i am older than you’ with a ‘yeah by like a week’, and looked to his family.
She winked.
Then disappeared.
There was silence, and then, “Wait, we didn’t even get her name!” From Dick.
Damian and Jason were interrogated that night, and they refused to tell them anything related to Marinette.
Marinette smiled from where she had hidden in the shadows, and made her way back to Damian’s room. She curled up in Damian’s bed, drifting into sleep. She was almost asleep when Damian returned.
And when Damian pressed his lips to her forehead and whispered, “Goodnight, Angel”, a smile made her way onto her lips.
By the time Damian had slipped into bed with her, her head leaning comfortably on his chest, she had fallen asleep.
-
When the two turned 15, Talia and Sabine sat them down and told them about the betrothal. Damian had been visiting with Talia.
It had been almost two months since Lila had turned her classmates against her, not that she cared, of course. She still had her Consorts after all.
“Marinette, Damian, we’d like to tell you something. An offer? Of sorts. I’m relatively sure you will accept, however.”
Talia smiled as Marinette dragged a grumpy Damian over to them by the head, beaming brightly.
“Oh come on, Mian! Don’t be such a grumpy banana.” Marinette reprimanded the older boy who was rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
The boy only smiled lazily, and ran another hand through his best friend’s hair, the girl making a small noise of protest. “Thats what you get for calling me a noodle, Angel.” (if you didn’t know miàn means noodle in chinese)
Sabine cleared her throat but looked at the two with amusement clear in her eyes.
They straightened. “Sorry, maman,” Mari muttered.
“Now, before you two were born, Sabine and I had an agreement. We are perfectly fine with this and the implications of it, so it is up to you to whether to accept or not.” Talia got straight to the point.
The two children looked to each other curiously before turning back to their parents. Damian nodded in acknowledgment and Sabine picked up where Talia left off.
“How do you feel about each other?” Sabine asked, watching the two closely for their reactions.
“If that’s your way of asking us if we’re okay to be siblings, since you and Lia are dating, Maman--” Marinette started but was quickly interrupted by a barely noticeably flushed Talia.
“No, not that, and we aren’t dating, Nette.” Talia aimed a playful glare at the girl, who grinned and blew a raspberry at her.
“How would you and Damian like to be betrothed?” Sabine asked, smiling at her friend and daughter fondly.
Marinette spluttered and Damian coughed.
Talia and Sabine burst out into laughter.
After the adults got their laughter under control and after a few glares from their kids, Damian spoke up.
“Marinette is my best friend. If I had to be betrothed to anyone, I’m glad it’s her.” Damian looked away and Marinette coughed awkwardly into her elbow.
“You misunderstand us. You don’t have to be betrothed. The choice is yours.”
Damian felt slightly attacked. He really did like Marinette, and the betrothal was an easy excuse to ask her out (even if he was a 15 year old). He didn’t know if Marinette felt the same way, and he didn’t want to impose that on her, so he kept quiet.
Marinette, who was looking deep in thought, answered.
“Can I talk to Damian for a while, privately?”
Damian, despite his better judgement, winced. This was probably the first time in a really long time that Marinette called him by his full name. It was normally Dami, Damibear to annoy him, or some other weird nickname like Mr Grumpy Banana this morning.
Regardless, the bluenette hadn’t called him “Damian” for a very long time. Two years, maybe.
She walked out of the room, Damian trailing slightly behind, before stopping a few feet outside the room.
Marinette slid down onto the floor, her back pressed against it and head in her hands. Damian frowned. He didn’t want his best friend looking so.. dejected. He ignored the slight pang of hurt that the thought of being with him could get this kind of reaction out of her.
He sat down next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder like he always did when any of them felt upset. He was happy to feel her lean into his side like she always did.
She turned her head and buried it in Damian’s side, breathing in his comforting scent of paints and nature. He tightened his hold on her ever so slightly and she almost burst into tears.
It wasn’t that she was opposed to being in an engagement with Damian, it was just that she didn’t particularly want to be with anyone or love anyone, especially after her father died and Damian’s father abandoned him.
Her mother and aunt didn’t show it, but they were sad about their fathers. She had heard Talia interacting with her ‘beloved’ before, and it almost always ended up in tears or frustration. (Not that Mari blamed her, Bruce was kind of an asshole.)
She felt Damian’s chin press into her scalp and a hint of a smile grazed her lips. But this was Damian. Damian who was her best friend. Damian who supported her no matter what. Damian who comforted her and was there for her whenever she needed it.
Damian would never hurt her. And she was determined never to hurt him, ever, if she could help it.
She looked up and smiled at Damian. The smile he loved so much, the smile she always had on whenever she saw him, the smile that would unconsciously fly to her lips whenever she heard his voice.
Maybe it was then that Marinette should’ve known that she loved her best friend, but then again, she was only fifteen. She didn’t know what love was. But she would. Very soon.
“We accept.” Damian told Sabine and Talia when they reentered the room.
“We thought you would.” Talia replied.
-
When Marinette turned 16, her last year at Francois Dupont, six months since she’d made Lila’s time a living hell with her Ladybug (both in suit and in school), and fashion clients connections, the Waynes had visited.
Turns out, Damian and Jason got caught trying to sneak onto the Wayne private jet but instead of stopping them, they insisted they came along too, having pieced together that Damian and Jason were going to visit the mysterious tiny girl they couldn’t find the name of.
So they had no choice.
And os that leads to now, with the Waynes standing in the courtyard, elicting a growing crowd as they waited for Marinette, looking the part of scary rich people that can end your life without a problem.
Damian suddenly started running, and he hugged a girl. No one could see who the girl was because her head was buried in Damian’s chest and his body was shielding hers.
Not many people in the courtyard was surprised when they pulled away and standing there was Marinette Dupain-Cheng. After all, she was one of the most successful students in class that didn’t get fame from famous relatives. No, al her fame was hers alone.
In fact, the only people surprised were Marinette’s class, not-so-fondly referred to as the Akuma Class.  Her Consorts were the only one who knew of her betrothed, Damian. Other than that, Marinette had never been willing to share.
When Marinette saw the other Waynes however, after hugging Jason, she rolled her eyes. Bruce, Dick and Tim stalked forwards, looking every inch the scary billionaires they were.
It was broken by Dick hugging the girl and gushing over how cool she was. Tim smiled at her and she had smiled back. Marinette flipped Bruce the bird.
“Why are you... so sunny? You definitely weren’t like that when you threatened us in Gotham. You were such an ice queen.” Tim mentioned, failing to keep the amusement out of his tone.
“What do you mean? Marinette’s always been like that, even if she is a bitch now. There’s no way she can be cold.” Alya remarked snidely.
Alix and Chloe stalked forward, raising thier fists threatningly. But Marinette only laughed coldly.
“You wanna see cold, Cesaire?” Marinette snarled, dropping all acts of being nice.
The Lady was back. Publicly.
The silence was interrupted by Rose, who asked, "But Lila, don't you know the Waynes?"
Said Lila had been trying to slink away unnoticed, but when her name was mentioned, all attention diverted back to her, effectively keeping her in place. Her pale face and scared eyes were enough to tell that she had indeed been lying.
Yells and screams broke out across the courtyard as the Akuma Class berated Lila for lying to them all this while. Until, Marinette interrupted, face set in a ice cold, stony position
"Okay, blame her for lying." She started. "But why did you believe her?"
The Akuma Class drew a blank and didn't respond. Partially because they didn't know what to say, and partially because Marinette's mere presence was overwhelmingly intimidating. Marinette sighed and pressed on.
"Everything the Liar has said can be found faulty by a simple internet search." It was true, and the class knew it. When no one replied, Marinette shook her head sardonically. "You reap what you sow."
She turned to her betrothed. In an instant, her icy mood was gone, replaced with the sunshiney-ness the Akuma Class had grown used to.
"C'mon, Dami!" She gave him a quick peck on the lips, hoisting herself up on Damian's back. Damian grasped her legs tightly, as she continued to be piggybacked by him.
"Onward!" She cried out dramatically, pointing to the school exit.
Damian only rolled his eyes fondly at his beloved, steering themselves out, her Consorts and his family behind them.
None of them looked back.
If they did, they would've seen the expressions of disbelief and regret etched onto every one of her old classmates' faces.
Not that they would care.

Kismet
Here is my take at a maribat mafia au- here ya go @stareyedmoonchild. I have no idea what the pairing should be, but if anyone stumbles across this, please let me know your opinion. Just want to be clear: THERE ARE NO MIRACULOUS IN THIS FIC AND SOME THINGS MAY BE VERY OOC. This is my first fic ever on tumblr. Hope you like it! Thanks!
Marinette Dupain-Cheng peaked around the corner of the alley, ducking in quickly. She unloaded the empty cartridge of her handgun, listening to the satisfying click as the new bullet clicked into place. She smiled before realising herself. Reluctantly clicking the safety on, she stowed it into her purse.
Strolling down the streets of Gotham, the petite woman of 23 perused the shops she passed, evaluating the clothing on the plain mannequins inside. Marinette was careful not to linger too long at any displays, having learned from her years at Gotham that appearing distracted would make you a target. Her phone buzzed from the pocket inside of her jacket, so she calmly opened it up.
“We have a new assignment for you.” The message read. She smirked slightly, opening the burner app up and quickly devouring the contents. They instructed her to meet her contact at the club run by her clients. You see, Marinette was not a normal person, though she lived under the guise of one. Marinette lived for the adrenaline pushing through her veins. When the money she had saved up had run out, she had no choice but to accept the jobs.
It was better than selling her body, she supposed, but in reality, she was selling her soul. It became a rhythm. She received her tasks, would scope out the... person of choice, and would her use method of choice. Marinette often implicated others for her deeds, changing the way the victims were killed so it wouldn’t seem too suspicious. A little sloppier on one person, a crime of passion on the other, quick bullet shot through the chin for the next. The blood didn’t matter any more- she had hardened herself to it.
“Ah, lovely.” The boss stood up to greet her, grabbing her shoulders and leaning down to quickly kiss both of her cheeks. Bruce Wayne stood over a foot taller than Marinette, and she would be lying if she didn’t admit that she was slightly terrified of him.
Bruce Wayne was the CEO of a fortune 500 company in Gotham. He had inherited it after his parent’s untimely deaths. Enraged, he had done everything he could in his power- barring becoming a vigilante- to avenge them. As a shrewd business man, he knew better than to be implicated in killing. He let others do the dirty work while he pulled the strings. You see, Bruce ran in the underground. Doing so, he provided shelters for the city’s homeless, giving in random acts of kindness, and it wasn’t just always to keep the police from sniffing around him.
He had adopted several children, from what Marinette had found out. A majority had been recruits off the streets, and while she had never met them, she knew their names and their stories.
Richard “Dick” Grayson had been a gymnast with his parents. He had been left an orphan at a young age, and Bruce had took him in. She remembered scowling at the old news-clippings fawning over the pair, as Bruce was known for his stoic demeanor.
Jason Todd was next, an runaway with an unfortunate pain problem. By that it is meant that Jason had become addicted to the toxic pill known as the Lazarus. It had warped his mind, leaving Bruce to scoop him up and transform the boy’s world views.
Tim Drake had been chosen only a few years after the other pair. He was an apparent genius, proven by his intelligence quota of 142 and acceptance to many Ivy League schools. Of all the brothers, Tim was the one Marinette respected the most.
Lastly came Damian Wayne, Bruce’s biological son. Damian was the reported result of a drugged one-night stand between Bruce and his rival’s daughter, Talia Al-Ghul. Her motives were unknown, as she had left the boy with his father when he had turned 10. From the photos, he looked like a younger Bruce, stoic and unfeeling.
Marinette idly wondered what the meeting was about as she sat down on the velvet couch in the VIP room of the Bat-cave, the name of Bruce’s club. It was used for many operations. There was a room that you could use for safe drugs. All drugs there were at minimum pricing, and had clean purposes. This helped get people off the streets as more and more addicts chose to join Bruce’s rehabilitation program that he had started with Jason.
“You do so much for this city,” Marinette began. “So what can I do for you?”
Bruce chuckled warmly, taking a sip out of his beverage. He waved her slight praise away, ever humble. After all, Bruce Wayne may have been a mob boss and a bad-guy, but that didn’t make him a bad guy.
“I’ve always said that respect is better than fear.” He responded. “This way, I can help get people off the streets. They make a living, I make a bit of money, and people are safer.”
He turned considerate. Marinette straightened up in her seat, feeling her switchblade in her boot shift against her ankle.
“i would like you to work on a case with one of my sons. I believe you would be able to teach him some of your... how shall I say.... expertise?” He cocked an eyebrow, sipping once again from his drink elegantly. She opened the flask of whiskey from her purse, and bumped it against him clear glass in a gesture of good faith.
“Kismet.”

oooOOOooo
It was a good thing that Hawkmoth’s attacks allowed Marinette to become used to supervillains at this point because otherwise, she would be losing her mind.
Oh, right, context.
Marinette’s class were still on their trip to Gotham. They had forgotten her again, but she decided she could spend the time with Damian. He accepted her offer, and together they toured some of the sights in Gotham during the day. They didn’t look as spooky as they usually did at night, and Marinette quickly wrote down and sometimes sketched out many design ideas during their adventure.
An adventure that was now put on hold because of a villain who thought green was a good color on him.
When outsiders heard of the big bad Gotham villains, they typically talked about The Joker or Harley Quinn, maybe Poison Ivy or Bane or even Catwoman. The Riddler was mentioned often, but he was the bottom of the ones on top. The A- of the A’s if you will.
Marinette knew he liked riddles and traps and he wore a lot of green. That was pretty much it.
Damian and Marinette were in line to get ice cream when the widows were suddenly blacked out. Damian grabbed Marinette’s hand. The doors locked, and the few people in the shop were trapped with the Riddler. He pointed a question mark shaped gun at them and demanded that they go to the back room.
Damian held Marinette’s hand, mumbling that it would be all right. Marinette nodded numbly, realizing that she likely couldn’t escape to become Ladybug if needed.
Tikki was unmoving in her purse.
She looked around her. The Riddler had the cashier, a father, and his two daughters, her and Damian.
The two girls were silent and scared, their shoulders hunched, but they continued to walk. Each held one of their father’s hands. The father himself was steely and glaring, but she saw the tremble in his lip. The cashier was wide-eyed and shaking. Marinette saw the beginnings of an anxiety attack in him. The worker that was dishing up the ice cream had followed them out but put on a mask. Must have been a henchman in disguise.
Damian was angry. He looked impassive at a glance, but his emotionless stare showed the fire in his eyes. Marinette hoped his anger didn’t lead to recklessness.
“Now that I’ve got you all here,” the Riddler cackled, “I need two volunteers to do the puzzle I set up until Batman and his batbrats show up! The others will wait here locked in a room as bait.”
Marinette glanced at the group. Two little girls, one around five and one around eight. A cashier struggling to breathe. A father wanting to protect his daughters.
Two pissed off able-bodied teenagers.
“We’ll go,” Marinette sounded more confident than she felt when she lifted her and Damian’s still conjoined hands.
He hissed something at her, it sounded like a question, but the blood roaring in her ears drowned out the words.
The Riddler grinned. “Excellent! A Wayne and a foreigner! Follow me!”
A Wayne? Marinette glanced at Damian but he started walking, dragging her for a few steps before she caught up.
The henchman locked the door behind them, locking the four others in the hallway. Marinette and Damian were now locked in with The Riddler
It was massive.
The room was the size of her school gym with green and purple squares covering the floor. There were black edges where they were standing now, but the majority of the room was square tiles.
They were on the ceiling too, Marinette noticed. The low hanging lights were still high enough to see the ceiling. Marinette could even see the hinges on the squares – What were those for?. Green squares were above purple squares and vice versa.
“What did you do?” Damian whispers. The blood roaring in Marinette’s ears was quiet enough for her to hear.
“We were the best bet,” she whispers back. An angry protective father would be rash. A panicking employee would stumble. Two young girls would be unpredictable.
Damian is angry, but from the, so far, little time they’ve spent together, Marinette knows he’s smart. He calculates his movements, coordinates the best course of action. He’s angry, but he will hopefully think before being reckless.
And she’s Ladybug, though currently without her suit. She’s dealt with similar things before, and she can do it again.
“As you can see,” The Riddler gestured to the brightly colored room, “there’s a gameboard. And you two are game pieces. Make a wrong step and…”
He reached for his cane that was tied at his belt and pressed a button on it. The green square nearest to them made a beeping sound. The purple square above it opened up like a latch and bricks dropped from it.
The sound of the bricks hitting the ground was loud, Marinette and Damian both flinched. She closed her eyes and gripped his hand tighter.
When she opened her eyes again, she surveyed the damage. The bricks went through the green square, opening up a dark hole below the floor. Marinette couldn’t see how far down it was.
The Riddler grinned, “as implied, if you make one wrong step then you die! Simple enough to understand?”
Marinette had to fight not to shake. She felt anger rising from within her – not fear.
She glanced at Damian. He was shifting his feet, his expression neutral. Was he angry too? Or was he scared?
Marinette’s anger grew. Her friend shouldn’t have to be scared.
She turned back to The Riddler. “How do we know if any of the cubes are fake?” she asked. Her voice shook, but she shifted her feet and didn’t meet The Riddler’s eyes so he mistook her fury for fear.
Villains loved to be feared.
Damian’s hand tightening grounded her to reality.
The Riddler smiled.
“I assure you there is a way to win,” he chuckled. “Now, who wants to go first?”
So, yeah. It was a good thing that Hawkmoth’s attacks allowed Marinette to become used to supervillains at this point because otherwise, she would be losing her mind.
She heard Damian move behind her. He was going to offer to go first, she knew it.
“I’ll go.”
Her voice sounded meek. Good.
“Angel,” Damian hissed, “What do you think you’re doing?”
“No takebacks!” the villain laughed. “Go ahead and choose, but make it snappy!”
Marinette squeezed Damian’s hand before letting go.
She glanced at the floor. All the tiles that were the same color seemed to be made of the same paint. They all had the same texture of wood. They were all identical from what she could see. But there had to be a way to tell which ones were dangerous.
She looked at the ceiling. There was one open tile-door but the others were closed and waiting. She couldn’t see latches. The colors were the same paint as the floor, the same size as each other and the floor. The only real difference from the floor was the hinges but-
The hinges!
The hinge on the open door was large. Likely more expensive, made to hold a lot of weight. But there were hinges on other tiles that were smaller. Likely cheaper and not made to hold a bunch of bricks.
It was the best chance she had.
Marinette looked at the closest one with a small hinge. It was one down from the hole in the floor, two steps and she would be on it.
“Go already,” The Riddler snarled. “Unless you want your friend to go-”
Marinette stepped on the purple square.
The Riddler chuckled, and fear finally overpowered the anger. What if she was wrong? What if the hinges were a fake trap and she was about to die? What if
He clicked the button.
The square under her feet beeped.
Damian inhaled.
The trapdoor opened.
Marinette did not scream.
She did stiffen. Nothing came.
She looked up in time for a soft feather land on her nose.
“Lucky guess!” The Riddler cackled with glee. “Let’s hope you can keep it up! But for now, it’s your friend’s turn.”
Marinette’s eyes widened. “Why can’t I play alone?” she asked.
She felt Tikki hit her leg and ignored her.
“What, think your friend isn’t as lucky as you?” he asked. “Tick, toc, Wayne. Don’t keep us waiting.”
Damian looked at the squares on the ground, trying to figure out where to step. He didn’t look up. He wasn’t going to get it right.
Marinette glanced up. The green one to his right should be safe. It was the one next to her.
Damian began to step on the purple one next to the green one. It wasn’t safe. The hinge was too large it wasn’t safe Damian was going to die and-
He looked at Marinette, seeing her panic.
He didn’t step on it.
Marinette relaxed, ever so slightly. Damian looked her in the eyes and she glanced at the safe square.
He stepped on the green square next to her.
When The Riddler clicked his button, another feather dropped down on Damian.
“Seems the little foreigner is helping the competition!” The Riddler growled. “You think I wouldn’t see the silent communication there? Now you have to answer a riddle for every turn, girlie! Answer correctly and you’ll survive.”
Marinette saw Damian get angry for a second before his face became neutral again. She felt nervousness rise within her.
The Riddler was known for his riddles. This may be harder than she thought…
“Take your turn,” the villain growled.
Marinette did, stepping on another safe space. When the feather fell, The Riddler growled lowly.
“Now answer this,” his voice was low.
Marinette’s breathing quickened.
Damian’s fist clenched.
She tried not to shake, she was going to get it wrong and die and-
“What is the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end and the end of every race?”
Marinette blinked, all her nervousness and fear draining out of her.
This was supposed to be a hard riddle? By the villain named after them? Annoyance was the prickling sensation over and over again that made her skin crawl and want to be itched. This villain is trying to kill them through an elaborate game and gave her such an easy riddle?
“The letter E,” she tried not to growl.
The Riddler frowned. “Take another turn.”
“But what about mine-”
“Shut it, Wayne,” The Riddler growled at him. “Take another turn, girlie. Your luck will run out eventually.”
Marinette took another turn. She got another feather.
The Riddler snarled, glaring at the ceiling.
Did he not know? Marinette mentally shook her head. The Riddler knew which squares were good and which ones were bad, he was simply frustrated that Marinette knew too.
“Go again!” he barked, forgoing the riddle.
Marinette went again. She had to step over a square but was safe once more.
“How can you tell?” the villain was snarling. “How do you know which ones you can use and which ones you can’t?”
Marinette shrugged. There was no way she was giving away the clue to him, he would only fix it the next time. “Just lucky I guess.”
“No, you figured something out,” The Riddler hissed. “How? How did you do it?”
She heard movement behind her and panicked for a moment. What was Damian doing? She scoffed so The Riddler wouldn’t hear him too.
“As if I’d tell you,” she held her head up, haughty.
Tikki hit her leg again but it was too late.
She could see the villain’s resolve snap.
When he lunged, Marinette was expecting it. Distantly, she heard someone yell behind her but her focus was on her immediate surroundings and her movements.
Sidestep to avoid the villain. Sweep under feet to make him lose his balance. Elbow to the side to topple him over. Jump to avoid his attempt to bring her down with him. Kick his remote away from him.
Of course, the villain didn’t stay down. Once she kicked his device away he was up again, this time fighting her with more intelligent movements.
No sweat. She won against akuma smarter than her before.
And it became apparent to her within a few seconds that The Riddler was not very good at fighting hand to hand combat.
She jabbed him in the throat before quickly running off the board to look for Damian.
Instead, she ran into another body.
“Woah, calm down,” Marinette didn’t recognize the voice, but she did recognize Red Robin and Robin, who were both standing where she was running toward.
Robin looked a little messy, almost like he changed his costume quickly. He also looked surprised, but Marinette couldn’t fathom why.
She looked behind them, seeing the door she and Damian entered through open, the other people from before missing.
She didn’t see Damian.
“Where’s my friend?” she asked. “Damian, he came here with me and-”
“It’s alright An- civilian,” Robin stepped forward. Red Robin walked to the villain. “I carried him out while The Riddler was focused on you.”
“You knocked him out,” Red Robin commented from behind her.
Marinette glanced back and shrugged. “Punching faces is stupid, you’re more likely to hurt your hand if you don’t do it right. Going for the throat is a dirty move but more effective.”
Robin looked surprised again, and Marinette was confused. Why was it surprising? Most people in Paris took up basic self-defense, so it’s not like she told him she was Ladybug.
“How’d you figure out his riddle board thing?” Red Robin asked.
Marinette turned to face him and pointed upward. “Anyone can figure it out if they look up! It’s obvious.”
Red Robin looked up. Marinette heard Robin move behind her and assumed he was also looking up.
“What?” Robin sounded confused.
“Oh!” Red Robin snapped his fingers. “The hinges?”
Marinette nodded. “He must have cut some corners because there’s no way the small hinges would hold a bunch of bricks.”
She heard Robin make an, “Oh,” sound behind her.
Red Robin looked back at her. “You’re pretty smart.”
Marinette’s eyes widened and she shook her head. “No, it’s something anyone would notice if they looked up! I just managed to use the knowledge.”
Red Robin didn’t look like he believed her, but Marinette didn’t know what she could do to dissuade him. She wasn’t as smart as Max, or anyone else, she just noticed her surroundings. It was a habit she picked up from being Ladybug.
There were footsteps behind her, too heavy to be Robin. Marinette saw Red Robin nod to them and assumed it was another one of Gotham’s heroes.
“How’d you know enough self-defense to take out one of Gotham’s villains?” Robin sounded suspicious.
Marinette relaxed slightly. “Paris has akuma like, every week. Most citizens learn enough self-defense to stay alive during attacks. I did a little more because my classmates are akumatized the most.”
Red Robin stepped forward. “Is there any more information on these akuma you can-”
“Robin,” a voice said from behind Marinette and Robin. She didn’t jump since she knew someone else was there.
She turned to see Batman, THE Batman, talking to Robin. “Please allow the civilian to leave, we need to get The Riddler to Arkham.”
Robin sighed.
“I’ll guide her out,” Red Robin offered, and Batman cut off any protests from Robin.
Marinette walked away with Red Robin, managing to shake off her starstruck-ness about Batman when they neared the exit.
“You really are smart,” Red Robin told her. “Most people don’t take notice of details like that easily. And I heard you solved one of his riddles.”
Marinette made a face. “His riddle was kind of pathetic. Anyone would have solved it.”
Red Robin shrugged. “Your friend is waiting in the police station down the street.”
Marinette felt her shoulders drop in relief. “Thank you,” she said before making her way to the station quickly.
Behind her, Red Robin smiled and walked back inside. Marinette was a genius, even if she didn’t realize, and he hoped Damian invited her over soon so he could see who was smarter of the two of them.
She may actually be a challenge!
oooOOOooo
Marinette walked into the police station only to be immediately hugged by the two girls.
“Thank you,” the older one’s voice was muffled by her stomach. “I was so scared. Thank you for not letting him take us.”
“I’m happy to help,” she assured them.
She saw their father talking to the officer. His eyes met hers and he mouthed, “thank you.”
She nodded to let him know she understood. The little girls let go of her and went to their father.
Looking around more, she saw the cashier being talked to by the officer. He looked a lot calmer now, thankfully. The henchman was in cuffs and being escorted to the cells for transfer.
She didn’t see Damian.
Worry was ice water in her veins and she began to shiver. Where was he? Did something happen? Was there another villain on the street that got him? Did anyone even know he was missing?
“Angel!” she turned her head toward the door to see Damian rush in. The ice water drained out, leaving warm fuzzies – hold on when did that happen?
Before she could ponder for much longer Marinette was wrapped in a hug. She returned it without thinking, breathing in and out slowly. Damian was really warm.
“I went back out to look for you, Robin told me you were here,” Damian mumbled. He stepped back, checking over her. “Are you alright? Are you hurt?”
Marinette shook her head. “I’m perfectly fine, Damian. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
He sighed in relief. “Don’t scare me like that again, Angel, please.”
It was now that Marinette noticed his slightly unkempt appearance. He was fine when she last saw him, but now his clothes were crooked and his hair was messy. It reminded her of someone, but she wasn’t sure who.
He must have been really worried.
Guilt was heavy on her shoulders. “I’m sorry, I should have given you more warning, or only volunteered myself.”
“What?” Damian shook his head. “No, I’m glad it was us two. The Riddler would have killed anyone else. I was more worried when you fought him.”
“You fought The Riddler?” The cashier was staring at her with wide eyes. His voice was loud enough that the entire station went silent.
Marinette laughed clumsily. The guilt had lessened, but awkwardness was chaining her. “He was bad at hand to hand combat. And mad at me. That made him make some dumb moves, most people would have been able to beat him.”
“Still,” an officer with grey hair and a mustache chuckled. “Quite commendable for a young girl.”
“It’s really nothing,” Marinette tried to wave it off. “We have a lot of villains in Paris. I’d be stupid if I didn’t learn to fight them.”
“The akuma!” the youngest daughter shouted. “I saw on the Lady’s blog about superheroes!”
She felt Tikki shift slightly in her purse.
“Don’t believe everything on that blog,” her older sister mumbled. “There is no way sausage hair is a superhero’s best friends. Superheroes don’t make friends with civilians.”
“I only watch the videos of fights,” the young girl pouted.
“Miss, if you’re ready,” the greying officer gestured to an empty room. “We need you to retell everything that just happened for the record.”
Marinette nodded. Damian let go of her fully, and she already missed the warmth – what was that? When did these feelings start?
She followed the officer into his office, not noticing the awed looks of those around her as she passed by.
After she left, Damian Wayne pulled out his phone. Someone had to let her teacher know she was alright if they even noticed her missing at all.
They’re fools not to notice her, but Damian was glad he had no competition from those idiots.
oooOOOooo
Unnamed Teenager From France Holds off The Riddler Until Batman Arrives!
“I was just doing what anyone else would have done,” she says. “He was pretty annoying though. His riddles need work.”
“A teenage girl took down Ed?” she turned to her friend. “After that whole trap he set up?”
“Seems so,” her friend shrugged. “Good for her. Hopefully, she goes back to France before he escapes and exacts revenge.”
“Watcha ladies talking about?” a pop of bubblegum. “Ooh! This lady betta watch her back, more villains might be interested in her if she can defeat Eddie!”
“You mean like us?” she asked.
“No,” her friend sighed. “We should leave her alone. One villain on her trip is enough. And I need to care for my plants, they're important for my next heist.”
The third girl shrugged. “Ain’t up ta me, but I won’t be the one that tells Puddin’ if that helps.”
“That helps,” she hummed. She would need to catch Batman on patrol tonight and ask him about it. She hadn’t stolen anything in a while, so he would likely talk to her for a bit.
“Of course you won’t tell him! You won’t go near him again if I have anything to say about it,” her friend replied to the third girl.
“Aw, Red, you do care!”

Miraculous Ladybug - Instalment 1 - Costume Change
Am I the only one that doesn't like Ladybug's costume? She's what? Thirteen? Fourteen? Fifteen? And she's perfectly fine wearing the costume that looks like it was stitched onto her skin? I would have quit then and there if that was supposed to be my superhero costume. I think a young teenager like Marinette should have had a problem with wearing the magic spandex suit to fight superpowered villains with.
Marinette deserves a kickass suit and a kickass personality as Ladybug. Also, a better hero name. Most definitely a better hero name. She was put on the spot and most unprepared for what was happening, as well as terrified that she would get the new girl in her class hurt if she wasn't careful because the idiot couldn't just follow orders from the superhero.
Marinette is going to be kickass in any Miraculous Ladybug Fanfiction I write, because I believe that she could be so much more and I hate how badly I was robbed of her potential.
Don't tell me that all the past users had to wear that suit, because there's no way that would have been an acceptable costume back in the Victorian Era.
The past users had different costumes. If you disagree, then you can meet me over the Pit.
----------MLB----------
Marinette felt her heart sink into her stomach as she stared at herself in the mirror. Oh god, she wasn't wearing clothes. That wasn't clothes, that couldn't possibly be clothes.
Her skin was red with black spots. She wasn't fighting crime in this. She was fourteen, in no way old enough to wear this bullshit.
She was under no circumstances leaving this room dressed like this. The giant monster had better not make too much damage before she sorts this out.
This was not - in any way, shape, or form - acceptable for a young teenager like herself to wear.
Nah, nope, na da, no way, sorry, certainly not, by no means, not likely, no thanks, unfortunately not, not possible, afraid she can't, rather not, not now, not this time, pass, not interested.
Not this lifetime, Satan.
"Tikki, spots off." She managed to say, sitting down and pulling on her jacket to hide her chest. "I'm not leaving my room wearing that. That wasn't clothes, that's was my skin."
Marinette distantly noticed that her head was starting to feel light as black spots started spawning in her vision.
"Marinette, you need to breathe! We can change the design! That was just the under-suit! We can change the design! Deep breaths, Marinette. In... out... in... out." Tikki rushed to reassure her new chosen.
She sat Marinette down and started explaining everything in as much depth as she could, as quickly as she could, with it still making sense. Marinette nodded, relieved she wouldn't have to wear that again.
Ladybugs are poisonous. Tikki reminded her as they sketched out everything the suit would need.
From clothes, to different pockets, to weapons and supplies. They pushed the boundaries of magic to the limit, Tikki proud of her new bug's creativity.
"What should I be called?" Marinette paused, worried.
"It's entirely up to you, Marinette." Tikki said, hovering in front of Marinette's face after finishing observing the sketches.
"It's your power making this possible, Tikki." She paused, confused. "You should have a say in what we're going to be known as... is there a way for us to stay in contact whilst I'm transformed, or is that a Shelf Thought?"
"Shelf Thought. Please choose a name that sounds deadly, but also relates to ladybugs somehow." Tikki decided. "I promise I'll explain everything better once the akuma is taken care of. The instructions should have something to help if you need more help mid-battle."
"E34234?" Marinette offered, mulling it over. "It's the color pigment originally made of a powdered mineral cinnabar, which is poisonous."
"It's perfect! You're going to do great, Marinette!" The Kwami said, looking determined. "Show them all who's boss."
"Tikki, Spots on."

Unforgettable II
Tumblr media
Summary: After their get together with each other, both Marinette and Adrien are exhausted. And one small act of kindness, as their civilian selves, leads to a habit between the two.
Word Count: 2.7k
Warnings: none
Notes: Since you all asked for a part 2, i thought “Why the hell not?” So here it is. Also, it may be a little OOC, but i think it turned out okay. Also it took me a while to get into my rhythm, but i finally got there. Also, it’s a bit shorter than normal. Hope you all enjoy!
Marinette woke up to the sound of her mother pounding on her room door. At first, she had thought it was a part of her dream, but the insistence of the banging made it apparent that it was coming from the land of the living.
Groaning, she pulled her pillow over her head and shouted for “Five more minutes.”
“But Marinette,” Sabine called, “You’re half an hour late for school!”
That got the young girl’s attention.
Marinette’s eyes popped open and she threw her sheets off of her bed, disturbing Tikki and her restful sleep. The little kwami yelped in surprise at the sudden movement and tumbled through the air.
“Oof! Marinette! What’s wrong?”
“I’m late Tikki! This is the second time this week! I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!” Marinette chanted frantically.
She threw on the first outfit she could think of, not looking in the mirror to see if it went together, and rushed downstairs. Just barely grabbing her purse and school bag full of books, Marinette ran out of the bakery with a pastry or two in her hands, on her way to school.
The school wasn’t too far from her home, so instead of transforming and swinging there, Marinette opted for old fashioned running.
The school bell had just rung the moment her foot hit the first step; and while she raced up the steps she heard a car door slam behind her. She took a split second to turn around, and much to her surprise saw Adrien running towards the front doors, frantically chugging a cup of coffee and holding his school bag instead of slinging it over his shoulder. His hair was a golden mess, looking like unruly bedhead and the boy model had bags underneath his eyes. He wore a simple sweater and loose jeans, his shoes weren’t even tied. It looked like he had woken up late just like Marinette had. How odd.
Adrien went up the steps, not even noticing Marinette, until she was less than a meter away from him. He jerked in surprise, nearly spilling his coffee.
“Marinette! Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there.” he said, his voice slightly shaky.
Marinette offered him a small smile.
“It’s okay Adrien.”
“I just didn’t sleep well last night, so I’m really tired right now, and the coffee isn’t helping a lot, not to mention I didn’t have any breakfa-.” He stopped talking and looked down. “And now I’m rambling. Sorry.”
Marinette’s eyes widened. “No, no! You’re fine! It’s just, I’m pretty tired too, so I don’t feel like talking.” She glanced down at her hands, still clutching the pastries she took from the bakery.
“You want one?” She asked all of a sudden, offering a cream danish to Adrien. It was that time of day and it was that kind of tired, where you had no idea what you were doing until a few hours after it happened. And Marinette was so tired from her get-together with Chat last night that she didn’t even think twice about giving her crush a pastry for breakfast.
So when the treat was offered to the tired boy, he didn’t even glance twice at it as he took it from Marinette and bit into it.
Sweet and rich flavors danced over Adrien’s tongue and in that moment Adrien was content. It was so good and only Marinette’s parents could pull something this incredible off.
“Thanks Marinette.” Adrien said after he gulped down the wonderful treat.
“No problem, Adrien. We should probably be getting to class now. Come on.”
They walked next to each other and crossed the large gym that separated them from their classroom.
Adrien slightly felt bad about not having anything else for Marinette, since she was kind enough to give up half of her breakfast for him. He glanced down at his half empty coffee and an idea struck him. Then he offered the girl beside him his coffee.
“Want the rest?’’ he asked timidly.
Marinette stared down at the cup in bewilderment. Hey bluebell eyes widened and her hands froze. Was Adrien really offering her the rest of his coffee?
When Marinette didn’t move to take the cup, Adrien winced in embarrassment, assuming that Marinette didn’t like coffee or didn’t want it, began to retract it and ramble.
“I mean, if you want it. It’s just, you were kind enough to give me half of your breakfast, and I thought that I could return the favor and I just, I don’t know, do you want the rest?”
“No-no! I mean yes I would like the rest, but I’m saying no because I do like coffee I just don’t drink it a lot.”
“Oh, okay!”
Adrien gave Marinette the cup of coffee and shoved his hands in his pockets, still embarrassed and his face began to show it by turning into a soft pink. He looked over at Marinette and saw that her face was just as red as his.
Ugh, why did this have to be so awkward? It was fine when she did it.
While Adrien was glancing at the bluenette, he noticed that she had not put her hair up today. Nor was she wearing her usual jacket or pink pants. Instead it was a Chat Noir themed sweater and leggings. He blushed even harder.
She was really cute.
They arrived at their classroom and opened the door. Everyone in the room turned to look at them and saw Marinette and Adrien go to their seats, faces red and looking as if they had rolled out of bed. Which was exactly what they did.
Marinette went and sat next to Alya, and buried her face in her arms. Her hair falling in front of her eyes and hiding her features.
“Miss Dupain-Cheng. Mister Agreste. Why are you both late today? And I expect a good excuse this time from the both of you.” Miss Bustier said sternly.
“Uhmm,” Adrien began, “I-uh, I overslept and there was traffic.”
Miss Bustier sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Alright, I’ll let that pass. You aren’t late often Adrien. Marinette? This better be a good one.” The red headed teacher crossed her arms and leaned on her desk as Marinette looked up from her hiding place. She was too tired to think of a good excuse, and she had already used all of the good ones. Plus, there was a limit to how many times she could say she overslept.
Thankfully, though, Adrien came to help.
“It was because of me, Miss Bustier.” Marinette’s ears rang as she heard those words. What was Adrien saying? What was he doing? Was he really gonna take the blame for her being late? “My driver was supposed to go to Marinette’s house to pick her up. We just started carpooling together, since we take the same route to school, and I thought that it would help her get to school on time more often instead of walking everyday. So it’s my fault we were both late. I’m really sorry.”
Miss Bustier’s eyes were slightly wide with shock, that was a first.
Adrien turned around to look at Marinette and saw her big blue eyes wide with shock. But they quickly turned into gratitude as she set her chin down on her arms and mouthed “Thank you.” to the golden boy in front of her. He shrugged and turned back to the front, another blush creeping up his face. Miss. Bustier, having dismissed both the excuses, turned back to the black board and started talking about the class’s lesson for that day, which was something about Edgar Allan Poe.
Alya nudges Marinette with her shoulder and the tired girl turns to look at her friend.
“Girl, what was that about?” she whispers. “You never told me that you started carpooling with Adrien.”
“I don’t.” she mumbled. “He just said that to help me get out of trouble.”
“Oooooohh, okay. I see.”
She turned to look at Nino with a sly smile on her face, and her boyfriend had the exact same knowing smile on his face. Having read each other’s minds, Nino turned to the silent Adrien.
“Hey, Adrien,” Nino began. “Why did you tell Miss. Bustier that you were carpooling with Marinette?”
The boy didn’t glance up from the notes he was taking. “Well, I don’t know. I just thought it was the right thing to do. Marinette’s helped us all in the past, and I just thought I could help her out too for once.”
“Oh, okay okay. And that’s it? No other reason?”
Adrien’s eyebrows furrowed. “No?” Nino hummed and bobbed his head up and down.
He turns back to Alya and they share a knowing look.
The next few hours went by slowly and Marinette wished for the school day to end. She barely registered what the teachers were saying, but luckily Alya kept nudging her awake, even though Marinette hated it. Then finally, the last bell rang and Marinette rushed out of the school, past everyone. There were no akuma attacks today, and Marinette was beyond thankful for that, but she knew that that meant there was gonna be one soon. There was always an akuma attack. So she went home and headed straight for bed; she flopped over the covers and closed her eyes waiting for her nap to come. If there was one sure thing about Marinette, it was that she didn’t know how to handle being tired.
She dreamed restfully, not even bothering to remember what she dreamt, when all of a sudden her eyes snapped open and she sat up straight in bed.
“Huh!” Marinette exclaimed. Why was she up? She was sleeping just fine and now she’s awake for no reason! She groaned in irritation and  turned to look at the clock, seeing the glowing red numbers shine brightly, as if they were mocking her.
2:19am
Marinette groaned and lied back down. Her soft pillows greeting her and she tried to close her eyes to go back to sleep. But she couldn’t.
Her eyes wouldn’t close. She tried again to close them shut, but her body wouldn’t respond to it’s commands. Marinette sat back up and tried to shut them again. It didn’t work. Then a chilling laugh came from outside of her room, sending shivers down her spine. The superheroine whipped her head to look out her window and to her shock, saw an akuma jumping away from her house. Her eyes narrowed in annoyance, just like how she would when hearing one of Chat’s ridiculous puns.
“Oh crap.” she said to herself as she realized that this was gonna be a long night.
The following morning, Marinette was still suffering from last night’s akuma attack. Apparently, a boy with insomnia couldn’t fall asleep and had gotten frustrated. So Hawkmoth promised him that he’ll put him to sleep for a week as long as he got Ladybug and Chat Noir’s miraculous. And honestly? Marinette could understand why he agreed. Sleeping for a week sounded great right now.
But after the attack, Marinette still couldn’t fall asleep. The adrenaline and the fight had left her wide awake, even though she could close her eyes again, it didn’t help. So instead, she decided to get a head start on the school day. She revised and went over her homework, got dressed in comfy clothes, put her hair up in it’s normal pigtails, and glanced at the clock. It was 6am.
The young girl sighed and sat on her bed. She already knew that it was going to be an exhausting day.
Shrugging, Marinette grabbed her bag and went downstairs. Her dad had been up for a bit already, having gotten up at 4 to work on the day’s workload, and Marinette had heard him shuffling around downstairs. When she walked into the bakery, her dad glanced at her in surprise.
“Marinette? What are you doing up so early? School doesn’t start for another two hours.” Tom said to his daughter who just shrugged.
“Yeah, I know. I just couldn’t sleep. So I thought that I would get a headstart on the day.” She said as she grabbed a day old pastry and headed out the door.
“Bye Dad!” she called behind her.
“Bye sweetie!”
Marinette walked into the blissfully cool air and sighed. It was so refreshing and it was just the thing she needed to stay awake a little longer. She could still see lingering mist in the air and the ground crunched slightly as she walked over the frost. The sky was a soft white with gold and pink clouds swirling around, and since it was still very early, Marinette decided to take it slow and enjoy the walk to school.
She munched on her pastry happily and walked listlessly towards her school, all of her attention on the world around her and it’s beauty.
“Marinette?” Tikki called from the girl’s purse.
“Yeah Tikki?”
“Why are you being so quiet?”
The girl hummed. “Because it’s nice to be quiet every once in a while. Sorry if I worried you.”
The kwami giggled. “No, it’s quite alright. Just checking to see if anything was wrong.”
“Nope. I’m just enjoying the view.”
Tikki smiled, and snuggled back into the warm purse, deciding to leave Marinette with her thoughts as she walked to school.
When Marinette arrived at school, the doors were still locked and the lights weren’t on yet, so she decided to wait and sat down on the cold steps. The young bluenette wrapped her arms around her, trying to stay warm, and closed her eyes. She rested her head on her arms, much like she did yesterday, and decided that it would be a good idea to rest her eyes until school started. She didn’t have any money for a coffee or a hot chocolate even, so that was out of the question.
She was on the steps for a while, until her bum became numb, when she heard a car door close in front of her. She opened her eyes and saw Miss Bustier walking towards the school. The teacher walked towards the doors and saw Marinette sitting on the steps and instantly became worried.
“Marinette? What are you doing here so early? How long have you been sitting there?” she asked concerned. Marinette just gave her teacher a small smile and said,
“I didn’t want to be late again.”
Miss. Bustier looked at Marinette, and smiled sadly. “Well then, let’s get you out of the cold shall we. Come on.”
She opened the doors and led Marinette to her classroom, telling her that she could rest or close her eyes until class started, which Marinette was thankful for. The girl didn’t even notice as time went by and the classroom filled up with it’s usual students. Then before she knew it, the bell rang, signaling the beginning of class and Marinette opened her eyes. They opened just in time to see Adrien walk in, holding two cups of coffee in his hands. He looked better and more prepared than yesterday, but Marinette wondered who the other cup of coffee was for. Probably Nino, she figured.
But she was pleasantly surprised when Adrien set the cup in front of her. Marinette glanced up at her crush, who avoided her gaze, and sat down in front of her.
Marinette smiled and took the warm cup between her hands. And then did she notice a sticky note with scribbles on it saying “I noticed how tired you were yesterday, so I thought you would enjoy another cup of coffee. It’s a mocha. Hope you like it.”
She smiled softly and began to drink the cup as class started.
Then the next day, Marinette brought two pastries with her to school. One for Adrien and one for her. And Adrien brought another mocha. And thus began a morning ritual of cream danishes and mochas in the morning. It was nice to look forward to in the mornings for both Marinette and Adrien. Because no matter how tired they were, they always managed to bring their treats for each other. Alya and Nino both teased the two about their shared habit, but they both ignored them. Even though they both blushed at the mention of it.
But there was one thing certain, and that was that they wouldn’t let either one of them forget it.
