“Everyone, this is Alfred. I work for him.” will always be the funniest throwaway line from any DCEU movie.
Giving peak “I was going to tell them this was all your idea” fall guy energy. As if going insane, trying to kill Superman, and dressing up like a Bat was somehow Alfred’s idea.

The sheer number of people who actively dislike (even hate) Zack Snyder, who stayed up to watch Rebel Moon (an explicitly Zack Snyder film) just to complain about it, is so weird to me.
Like, this isn't a first-time director. If you know you don't like his movies, why are you carving out over two hours to watch it.
It's just baffling to me that it's almost 2024, and people still hate-watch things.

i have this incredibly specific headcanon that aaron LOVES zack snyder movies and i want ur thoughts on it
you're completely right. aaron seems like the type to love his stuff, and it makes sense to me that he'd be more of a DC guy instead of a Marvel guy. i don't know why.
(except for spiderman. aaron would be a spiderman guy, i think)
aaron is fighting for his LIFE trying to defend snyder's superhero movies against Matt who's a big Marvel guy and definitely makes fun of him for being such a snyder stan. but i know even he put his head in his hands when he watched batman v superman.

I have so much to say about Rebel Moon director's cuts. As someone who already enjoyed the watered down versions, Zack's original vision rules really hard just like every single one of his projects. I don't know if this is his magnum opus, but it is definitely his most ambitious film. The extreme violence serves as a great contrast to the warmth of human connection. Snyder doesn't go half way in. He goes all way in. Beauty and horror in its totality. He made the kind of film that Hollywood would never let him make, not even in the days where they still praised him for 300.
It's such a miracle that this film exists in the recent scenario we find ourselves in. This is the alternative to people who want something far more intense than other scif-fi and space fantasies could ever offer. The way he lingers on certain quiet moments shows how much Snyder cares for the humanity and expression of the characters he created.

planning to cross-post my Conner/Superboy comics on to twidder but I figured I should flesh out his origin into a comic so the narrative is easier to follow (especially since I can't write out his story in a micro-blogging site). So that's coming up. The struggles of cross posting,,,

Can I ask your thoughts on BvS. I watched it (and man of steel) recently and absolutely hated the character assassination of Clark. And it felt like his and Bruce's enemy phase was so drawn out and ooc for Clark. Plus I don't like that they're only really friends for the last 30 mins of Clark's life but Bruce still refers to him as a friend. Their relationship just felt very hollow, but I'm curious what you have to say because I know how much you love Superbat. (Also is Justice league any good, either in general or for Superbat vibes? I haven't watched it yet)
I think Justice League (Snyder cut) makes up for that weird friendship gap well, with Bruce trying to make amends for failing Clark. They didn't have a good chance to be more than tentative allies toward the end, and JL Bruce acknowledges this well I think. A little obsessively, but that's Bruce for you.
I agree it was rough to see them be enemies for so long, without really having much of a "come to jesus" moment between them before Clark died. I much prefer the inversion, where they're friends first before becoming enemies, but that would have required several more movies.
I think BVS Clark was a faithful continuation of MOS Clark, but a lot of people didn't like that version of Clark, and that's okay too. He was distinct from the comics version in a lot of ways, trying to adapt to a darker grittier world like Snyder gave Bruce. I think it worked better for Bruce, but I could see where he was going with it. I liked the alien-ness of that Clark, and how he felt so disconnected from the world around him -- but that kind of feeling can't last for as long as it did without changing Superman's hopeful outlook in major ways, yeah.
I think that's where the post-BVS superbat fics really shine, trying to reconcile that Bruce with a Superman he failed, and them finding hope together. Snyder was trying to show us that Bruce's hope is what brings the Justice League into being, but that hope centers around Clark, from what we can see -- or at least, the idea of him.
