Another Honkai musing — if Herrschers are functionally immortal, I wonder what the story would look like 100, 1000, or even 10,000+ years in the future...

I already plan to explore this idea in a canon-divergent AU I've brainstormed for a few years now, the Remnant Era AU, but that was more like "what if the Current Era ended badly?".

Instead, I'm curious about the story in its present state with Kiana as Herrscher of Finality, and what it'd be like in the long-run for these characters if they end up with extended lifespans.

Like in the case of Welt, he doesn't have his full power, but he didn't fundamentally lose it either. He is still the (a?) Herrscher of Reason, even years after the Great Eruption.

So, I speculate that in the future once Kiana finally gets full control over her power and Earth's Honkai energy, she could probably restore Herrschers to their full power. Mei could fully wield the Authorities of Conquest and Origin, Bronya would be Reason again, etc.

If the Luoxing story ends well, we might be able to add Senadina to this list too (and even Songque, since the full-power Astral Ring seems similar to a Herrscher core?)

If these characters do get full Herrscher powers back, and extended lifespans, I feel like it raises a lot of interesting questions and dilemmas they'd have to face.

For instance, would they even want to have these extended lifespans? Would Mei or Bronya be willing to bear the pain of out-living not just their own family and friends but even the entire society they grew up in? Do they have a choice?

Assuming they do become/stay immortal, then as Earth changes over time, what role would these immortal Herrschers play? Would they end up becoming a sort of symbol of divinity in humanity's culture, essentially a new pantheon/mythos based on their powers and legacy?

How would they view the change of civilization with time? Would they try to preserve humanity in its present state as long as possible, or would they let nature take its course via diaster/conflict/war and let the mortal humans sort it out? Would they take some middle path between direct rule and complete abandonment?

How would their story be passed down through generations? Would their history get distorted through countless retellings, leading to a future civilization that turns against humanity's own Herrschers? Might they someday fade into obscurity instead? If so, would the Herrschers still try to exercise their power from the shadows, or would they simply live out lives as "ordinary" people for generations?

What would these Herrschers even do in these long years? What sorts of hobbies and passions and careers and ideals might they pursue as civilization waxes and wanes? What responsibilities would they take on, and what would they do when they are taking time for themselves instead?

With such long lifespans and great power, could these Herrschers (Kiana, Mei, Bronya, Seele, etc.) truly stay friends forever? I doubt they'd ever become enemies, but could rifts grow between them as time goes by? Might they end up in conflict with one another over their views on how to interact with the rest of humanity?

And how about their Authorities? Would there be any long-term effects on their psyche from the Authority each one bears? Would their sense of humanity be eroded not just by the passage of time but by the influence of the power of Honkai? Perhaps would they be able to resist these forms of erosion?

I assume the other Herrschers could all pass down their Authorities via there cores, just like Welt did with Bronya, or like how the HSR Chrysos Heirs inherit the power of the Titans via their coreflames. But this raises the question of Kiana's Authority: how the hell would someone else be able to inherit it?

Kiana was essentially DESIGNED to be a perfect vessel for the Herrscher of Finality; that wasn't the original intent, but it was the result of both Previous Era and Current Era experiments. Project Stigma, the blending of both the Schariac and Kaslana stigmata, the addition of Sirin's DNA...

So Kiana was essentially humanity's best and perhaps only chance to secure the Authority of Finality in the Current Era. As time goes on, would it be possible to find a true heir to Kiana's power? Would she one day step away from her role and let someone else become the god of Earth?

But then finding an heir to Kiana's power raises its own ethical questions. How would you select a proper candidate for this sort of process? Is it possible for an ordinary human to achieve, or would they HAVE to have some sort of augmentation? How would the experiments be conducted in an ethical manner to ensure such a process wouldn't go awry?

Would it be possible to create a vessel from scratch to fulfill this role? Otto failed to create a complete human "from scratch", but with the power of Finality could Kiana achieve it? And what sort of moral dilemma might that pose?

And how should the rest of humanity be represented in this process? Would it be a democratic process where literally every single human gets a chance to vote for an heir to Kiana's power? Or would it be a restricted process? Would it even be public knowledge?

Could this process of finding an heir even spark its own conflicts? Could there be controversies and scandals and disputes as different scientists and leaders and other figureheads, including the Herrschers themselves, disagree on who should inherit Finality or how the heir should be chosen?

And how do the Stigma-Awakened and Stigmata play a role in this? Someone like Misteln would probably have a lengthened lifespan, but does Seele (red) still have her full power as a Stigma? Would humanity even continue to nurture the power of the Stigma-Awakened, or would it be suppressed now that Honkai is no longer an imminent threat?

Finally, would it be possible for Kiana to create new Authorities? Could she essentially create and lead an entire organization based around nurturing future Herrschers, not just by passing down the original 12 Authorities but also by creating new ones?

If so, to what extent might she use this power? Is it something to be kept to an absolute minimum, or a tool to be used to its fullest potential? What sorts of Authorities could Kiana even create, if she were able to do so?

Would these new Herrschers be equal to the original ones, or would they forever have some status as "lesser" compared to the ones who came before them? Or could they even surpass the Herrschers who came before them?

On the left is Icesight, nicknamed Eyes, who is a visually impaired medicine cat, and her boybestie Flamebark, a slightly himbo warrior and the son of the previous clan leader, Wildstar. More lore under the cut because i actually adored revisiting these guys

This clan had like, a main villain in the way of the medicine cat, Diamondsight (who belongs to @/kursed-curtain btw). He poisoned and killed Wildstar back when Icesight and Flamebark were still apprentices (and Icesight was still a warrior apprentice), because he had issues with how Wildstar was running the clan. Flamepaw immediatley got suspicious of the circumstances surrounding his father's death, but the other cats think he is leaping to conclusions and making things up to cope with Wildstar's death. There's a lot of pity thrown his way, and no one believes Flamepaw's claims other than Icepaw.

A lot of shit goes down, Icepaw loses much of her eyesight because of a curse from Starclan and becomes Diamondsight's apprentice because she can no longer effectively trian as a warrior, Flamepaw eventually finds solid evidence of Diamondsight's treachery and confronts him in front of the clan, Diamondsight gets exiled, yay! Flamepaw gets promoted to warrior for his dedication, earns the name Flamebark (...he's dog-coded okay), and Icepaw becomes the clans medicine cat, earning her name Icesight (Claystar thinks he's sooooo funny giving her that name). everyone lives happily ever after.

BUT NOT FOR LONG!

more shit happens, diamondsight has a mole in the clan, he ends up poisoning claystar to get back at him. When they imprison Diamondsight, Flamebark and Ashfur (deputy and Claystar's partner), are forced to choose between getting the antidote off of Diamondsight or making him pay for his crimes. They end up letting Diamondsight free (albeit under surveillance) in exchange for the antidote to save Claystar, and that's... kind of where we stopped with that clan's story. there was a lot of extra stuff in there that i do not have the energy to explain (without talking about a lot of other people's ocs), especially concerning Eyes' curse and Starclan's apparent love of Diamondsight because they suck for some reason lol. anyway,,,

Here’s a group of roots that relate to breadth, amount, and multiples of things, and that may or may not be related. I’m generally not 100% certain of many of these reconstructions; I don’t think there’s enough material to create a perfectly (or even mostly) watertight explanation for these and besides, many of the words here are the kind that resist a transparent explanation. Thoughts and ideas are welcome.

*bid, ‘amount’

bid (adv), ‘so (degree), to the extent of’

luubid (adv), ‘enough’ < luu- + bid, perhaps “sufficient amount”?

I’ve personally extrapolated from this that ‘bid as a suffix could mean ‘a measure of something,’ like English -ful > hosha’bid (spoonful), buyca’bid (bucketful), gaambid (handful), iru’bid (armful). And also that luu- might mean something like “sufficient” or “to suffice,” giving a verb luur, ‘to suffice.’

*bi-, ‘wide, broad, vast’

bikadinir (v), ‘to stab (with a broad blade), to run through’ < bi- + kad (sabre) + din(to give) + verbal suffix — from this I would hazard the guess that bi- means ‘wide, broad’.

cu’bikad (n), ‘an indoor game that involves stabbing blades into a chequered board - a cross between darts, chess and ludo’ < cu- (four) + bi- + kad (sabre), lit. “four broadswords(?)” — the game is played with daggers, so either the bikad here is metaphorical or in Mando’a it doesn’t mean a literal broadsword, but has perhaps diminished into a mere dagger.

I’ve also wondered if abiik, ‘sky,’ might not belong to this group? Possibly originally meaning something like ‘wideness, vastness.’ It could be unrelated as well, though; perhaps the root there is *ab- instead of *bi-; it’s hard to say anything conclusive because there aren’t enough clearly related examples to clarify the relationships here.

I’ve personally been using bila (from bi- + adjectival suffix) as an adjective/adverb meaning ‘wide(ly), broad(ly), vast(ly).’

*bin-, ‘stack,’ ‘bundle,’ or ‘bunch’

bines (n), ‘stack’ <bin- + nominal suffix meaning ‘a thing’

binesor (v), ‘to stack’ < bines + verbal suffix

bintar (adv), ‘both’ < possibly bin + t’ad, i.e. “two things”?

ebin (adv), ‘either’ < possibly eyn + bin, i.e. “one thing”?

An example of Fando’a derivation would be the binil, ‘a non-essential part’ (cf. paril ‘an essential part’) by MandoCreator Language Team.

*bir-, ‘harness, tackle, rig’

birgaan (n), ‘backpack’ < Doylist etymology is that this word comes from Bergen, a Norwegian backpack manufacturer and a British military slang word for a backpack (according to word of god). However, I like a Watsonian etymology (i.e. glossing it like it’s a native word) bir- + gaan, especially since it seems like Traviss used bir- elsewhere as well.

birikad (n), ‘baby carrying harness’ < bir- + ik’aad (baby)

birov (adv), ‘many’ < possibly from bir- + -ov, a nominal suffix that usually creates abstract nouns? The semantic link could be something like rig > arrangement of many things > many-ness.

Bir- from birov has been used in many a Fando’a word to mean ‘many, multiple’. Some examples by Aay’han Community (modifications mine): bir’ca’nara (often), bir’pirimla (universal, multipurpose, something that has many uses), birakir (1. multitask 2. to be multipurpose, perform many functions), birakyc (multitasking, multipurpose).

2. What's My Name - as badass as it gets. The best introduction any DCOM character has ever gotten. Dare I say good enough to hang with real Disney studio villain songs.

3. My Once Upon A Time - a beautiful encapsulation of what the series was about. Mal owning her mistakes, realizing her decisions are her own, and understanding that the world is hers to save or ruin now. I don't know why the song isn't more beloved in the fandom.

4. If Only - it doesn't quite hit the emotional beats it should because I think it comes too early in the movie, but it's iconic and has great vocals.

5. Ways to Be Wicked - absolute fire. Their best opener by far. Made better by the fact that it has no bearing on the plot whatsoever. It was just *that good* and they had to include it. 0% story relevancy, 100% commitment to the bit.

And I do not enjoy me and my writer friends getting these solicitations.

I do not make money-making the fan work, and I do not plan to; I will not be putting money into the craft, just my time. And if I were going to do that, I would go out and find an artist, not expect one to come to me.
