4chan: The Internet’s Mos Eisley Cantina Takes Another Hit
In the chaotic world of online forums, 4chan stands out like a neon sign in a dark alley. Dubbed the “cesspool of the internet,” it has a reputation for being the lawless Doge City of the online world. This notorious imageboard has seen its fair share of craziness, and now, it’s down again—this time, apparently hacked. On April 14, 2025, users began reporting that 4chan was loading slowly. By…

ive dreamed the bothosters coming back with even worse bots twice now and every time i woke up like slightly annoyed before realizing some of the bigger bothosters and cheaters have been banned and every effort theyve made has been foiled by Valve and theyve yet to reverse engineer whatever it is Valve is using to gut them with and i start looking like this

#fixttf2#savetf2#tf2#hopefully valve is gonna continue with this effort beyond the summer update but you never know lol#they need to fix CS2 as well like do you guys know how FUCKED that game is#i dont play it but the game is less than a year old and has cheaters and bots infesting it tf2 style#and its unforgivable. tf2 is 17 yrs old and the source engine code got leaked#but they essentially forced the players to go from csgo to cs2 and took the economy with them#and the game lacks content and has been stuck in season 1 for 9 months#while cheaters and bots ruin the fuck outta the game#but they havent lifted a finger to fix it#instead theyre making a new game that already has cheaters in the beta test......... lol#so genuinely valve has a lot to fix and answer for and maintain#if they want to amend the absolute idiocy theyve kept up for so long

Really hoping someone out there will rip all of spore's dialogue someday, It's SO good but a lot of it is so fucking situational that you never see it
#spore#spore 2008#spore galactic adventures#this is why i'm dying for a spore source code leak#a spore source code leak would be a dream come true for me#I've lost hope that the “demo” is ever gonna be found because realistically it won't be#but a source code leak is still VERY much possible

this is the biggest pokemon leak weve ever seen. holy fuck.
a gamefreak employee got phished in a dev portal. i feel really really bad for them. but at the same time so much of this is amazing. i love cut content. i love seeing the process of making stuff. so i have mixed feelings, but i’m going to set that aside.
ive been here for multiple beta leaks since the spaceworld gold demo in 2018 and the diamond and pearl beta leak somewhere after that. this is by far the most intensive leak of beta pokemon stuff ive seen.
source code and beta builds for gens 3, 4, 5, and later 6 and 7. it is MASSIVE.
there is so fucking much and you can see coverage here
edit: if you dont have twitter (elon is a shitbag i dont blame you) you can go on r/PokeLeaks
this document from junichi masuda made in 2005 is the highlight for me, the symbol used in the hgss arceus event. it seems the legendaries are like a greek pantheon of deities

but we got more
internal development and discussion. universe creation lore, character profiles (e.g. skyla is a sexy latina pilot inspired by jennifer lopez and isabella fontana), never before seen designs, seen-before designs (latiken had a fucking sprite!), concept art, gen 3 had some darker looking discarded dev art. WHAT IS THIS IT RULES
here are compiled beta sprites from gens 3, 4, 5

Health Code Violation- DC x DP prompt
"Hold on there. You're not permitted beyond this point." The floating teenage boy said as he tucked his clipboard under his arm.
After a battle with another world-ending villain Superman was killed in action and after a short debate the decision to revive him using the Lazarus Pit was made. However, the league members who were carrying his body to the pit didn't expect it to be blocked off with caution tape. A teenage boy with stark white hair and wearing a hard hat and orange construction vest.
"What are you doing out here kid? And what is with the tape?" Barry asked shifting Clark's heavy ass body from crushing him.
"I'm here to take a look at the leak." He said pointing a thumb in the direction of the green pit.
"The leak?" Diana echoed in confusion.
"Yeah, your planet has a leak. A few actually. Our realm hasn't been managed well and now that the old king is gone we need to fix some things. Right now the leaks need to be sealed." He said. "Also what's with the dead guy?"
"We were bringing him to the Lazarus Pit to revive him." Barry said blankly.
The teen shook his head in astonishment almost dropping his clipboard.
"You are what?! With the what?!"
"The Lazarus pit...?" Hal laughed nervously his face in a half-quirked smile.
"You call it a Lazarus Pit? Guys this is a pool of contaminated ectoplasm. Basically sewage. This thing is full of dead people juice. All those leftover emotions and obsessions are stewing in there. You toss that body in these pool and you'll make a revenant full of anger. It doesn't even have an ecosystem to cleanse it. It's like stagnant water." The teen said waving his pen around before pausing "Wait a minute....you people have been using it? No wonder it's so polluted! What is wrong with you?! Are you trying to contaminate your planet? Do you want zombies?"
It was kind of weird to be scolded by a kid, for everyone but Bruce. He thought of a more pragmatic approach. He didn't like the pit but he acknowledged it's usefulness.
"I understand. But we do want to save our friend and the only way is to use the pit."
"That's a big ask. The pit is one thing but bringing back the dead willy nilly? ...But I guess that's my domain now.. "
The teen mumbled to himself before sighing.
"Look, I want to help. I really do. But the pit is unstable and there are many more on this planet with the same issue. We can't risk an apocalypse and the chance they get into the wrong hands. This is for the safety of your planet." The teen said as mannerly as possible as he dismissed the heros.
"Come on, please. Our friend is dead. You don't want our friend to die." Barry said pleadingly.
"Very mature of you. A bit of shame might help you...alright fine but don't badger me again." The silver-haired being said taking out a small syringe and taking a sample of his own blood.
"It's diluted compared to the pure stuff but 10x stronger than the stuff in the pool. It's safer and once he's kicking again it'll drain out of his system." He tossed the needle to Barry and returned to taking samples of the pit. "This biohazard requires an ecologist. I'll have to import some blob feeders to clean up the toxins. Then either seal this up or link it to the network. But these dumb mortals are just going to keep dumping bodies into it."
The teen mumbled to himself as he tried to find a solution.
A week later all the Lazarus pits had disappeared. The Al Ghuls were scrambling as the source of their powers dried up.
Clark was alive and feeling better than ever. No pit rage at all.
Eventually the boy returned.
"I had a talk with the ancients and they agreed to let you have one ecto pool. Only one thought and it has to be managed by me. As long as you don't try abusing it by going into it while alive or not asking permission I'll allow you to use it. Also, be mindful of my cleaning wisps, they work very hard to keep the natural flow of the ecto cycle going." The teen said holding up a green little ghost blob and petting it.

This. Is. Glorious.
4chan, the online melting pot of humanity's living diarrhea, has been hacked so fucking hard that the general speculation is it won't recover. If so, it would be one of the largest acts of de-platforming right wing extremist and the most deserved since god fried all those Nazis at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The hackers leaked source code and doxed the admin and many users, who apparently used their actual email addresses to create their accounts. From engadget:
“While it seems some users took steps to protect their identities, many appear to have used their primary email address to register for the forum, with .edu and even .gov addresses reportedly appearing in the list leaked emails.”
As you know, 4chan (and later 8chan) allowed a random asshole who went by Q to plant and falsely validate wild conspiracy theories that did real damage to our democracy. All this birthed Qanon, a political faction that believed all of the dumbest shit this guy posted. And that led to the rise of Trump and his MAGA cult.
Of course, another version of 4chan will undoubtedly grow from the pile of dog shit left behind. But, this is a huge victory in the fight against hate, bigotry, and general stupidity.

UPDATE: As of 25/04/2025, 4chan is back up and running again. This post and its addendum will be kept as is, and will no longer be updated unless it goes back down again. If you were on /ghost/, it was a pleasure shitposting with you.
All right, I know no one gives a shit, but let me give you a recounting of the fall of 4chan from the perspective of someone who was there and has been lurking both 4chan and tumblr for a few years now.
I'll try to provide as much context as I can, but a lot of images were either lost or im too lazy to look for them in the +5000 reply thread in soyjak party.
Anyways, info below:
So, necessary context: a few years back, 4chan had a board called /qa/, which if you know little about the page, you may think every board is like /b/ or /pol/, which means a containment cess pool of grifters, (you) baiters, incels, and other deranged individuals. The thing is, /qa/ was somehow worse. The entire board was plagued and infested with soyjack edits, board culture was a nuclear disaster, anons were incredibly hostile in there, you know the drill, the big bad 4chan, but this time its actually true.
One day, moderation deleted /qa/, anons that posted there got mad, tried to raid other boards, failed, and then moved on to an altchan called soyjack party, which entire purpose you can guess from its name alone.
Apparently, the boards that allow pdf uploads (paper and origami, for example) didn't check if the uploaded file was actually a pdf file, so postscript files could be used to get access. This is as far as my understanding of web backend goes, sorry.
The hacker claims to have been working on this since 2021, and that he had access since about a year ago, but was recopilating data.
Now, what actually happened when the hack ocurred? Well, a banner of miku dancing with a song that played automatically was placed on top of every board, with the text "/QA/ IS BACK", this was possible because apparently no board was ever deleted, they were just hidden from the public.
A thread was then made on soyjack party, claiming authorship over the hack, and shit went south from there. Anons went en masse to talk there, a lot of weird discussion happened, the thread got the bump limit removed and got pinned, more than 5k posts were amassed on the first night alone. Keep in mind this happened at about 8 pm and most of the stuff went on through midnight.
So, the hacker leaked some things, first of all, the html files for the entirety of /j/ and the email address for every moderation member (important note: the pressence of .gov mails was disproven by the hacker themselves, so i guess there were never any feds), what is /j/? the board exclusive for jannies and moderators to discuss actions taken on the website regarding spam, ban evaders, threads spiraling out of control, etc. Among other things, some of the inner workings of 4chan got revealed, such as the web extension for jannies that allows them to do their job easily, how reports are handled, and other stuff. (Anecdotically, some guy got permabanned for calling anons jews or n-words over a 100 times in the same few threads)
Then, the source code got leaked. Important to say, the hacker removed the part of the source code related to the captcha, as to not facilitate bot attacks on the future, and all information related to email verification or 4chan pass users information also got removed, so all in all users are safe.
What was found on the sourcecode? That it was old, mostly. Most boards used code that hasn't been updated since about 2016, and /flash/ used the exact same code from when it was created back on 2011.
From there, desuarchive, a site that archives threads that die from bump limit, opened a dragon ball general on ghost mode, and thus began what later got called /ghost/, a solely text based thread with well over 20k replies as of right now, where a fraction of the 4chan population took refuge and is currently discussing random things with no particular topic. Kinda hard to read, but its comfy.
What does this mean for other sites? Not a lot, really. A lot of anons already crossposted in 4chan and tumblr already, and the ones that din't most likely wont come here. Some of the bigger/most dedicated groups, like /vt/, migrated to other boards. Various altchans are trying/tried to catch some of the flock of users that got lost, but i doubt it will get anywhere, since soyjak party for example was struggling with just the influx of users that came for the hack thread given its poor infrastructure. Kiwifarms saw a surge of new accounts apparently, but a lot of anons kinda loathe the idea of having to register, so theres that.
Smaller communities, such as generals that didn't get a lot of traffic, or boards on the slower end (say, /ic/, /lit/, etc) will probably vanish or disseminate until (or if) 4chan comes back up. I'd say give it a month, don't get your hopes up whether you want it to stay dead or want it to come back.
Given how many anons are staying on places like /ghost/ or other similar archives with the same ghost posting feature, i doubt it will be as bad as people are making it sound. Besides, the communities that are most likely to migrate to places like tumblr are either /co/, /vg/ or /lgbt/ refugees, which aren't THAT bad. Not every board was like the main cesspools (/b/, /r9k/, /pol/).
From now on, either 4chan comes back up in a few weeks (somewhere between 2 weeks to a month is expected), altchans capture the migrating anons, or a brand new imageboard rises from the ashes to become the new go-to site for old 4chan posters.
In conclusion, nothing ever happens, but also don't worry, chances are this won't affect tumblr in the slightest. If it does, you can cash in your "you were wrong" ticket whenever you want, i'll take the L.
As a footnote, keep in mind: NO users were compromised, if you ever posted there and are worried for your safety, physical or digital, you are safe.
Edit: Forgot to add, if you are a 4chan refugee, im BEGGING you to dm me and tell what board you were from and where are you migrating, if at all.

huh what the hell. 4chan just got hacked by some disgruntled further-right offshoot and leaked the source code, mod and admin ips and emails, insider chat logs, and completely took down the site. based on the size of the infiltration it might even be down permanently.

Hey: the Twitter "leak" about Twitter letting certain alt-right users say slurs? It's a fake.
There's no source or attribution, no way to verify it.
Additionally, it says it's from okta: okta is a login/identity management system, used by a lot of companies. Twitter is not one of those companies!
There's no reason for any Twitter code to be dealing with okta.
Also, okta is a configurable platform, where each company can set their own policies and requirements. Because of that, you can look up the docs on how you'd configure this kind of permissions in okta, and it doesn't look like this. The syntax is wrong.
Someone just made up a mock file to back up a lie about Twitter being shitty (don't get me wrong: Twitter is shitty and is doing lots of terrible things: this isn't one of them)

Hey remember when that redditor found the original starcraft 1 source code CD and instead of leaking it he returned it to the company in exchange for some shitty cheap overwatch merch or whatever it was blizzard was making?

the scope of this pokemon leak is truly insane. it's bad enough for source code and dev builds to get out, but theres some really devastating planning docs and meeting transcripts in there too.
"its pokemon, so what if 3 plot summaries for movie entries in this endless franchise get out" i hear you, but a direct quote in one of these meetings is about how the relations between the company and two jp voice actors (pikachu and ash! ikue otani and rica matsumoto!) have been seriously strained for a long time, to the point where executives wanted to replace them without writing off the characters

The mapmaking tools for several pokemon generations, including Generations 3, 4, and 5, as well as the full source code of these games, are included in the leak.
