***END GAME SPOILERS*** (tried to keep the screenshots to a minimum)
There is a game ending where Tav can choose to become a mindflayer in order to defeat the netherbrain, and if Tav has romanced an origin character, each one has a romance epilogue reacting to Tav’s new form.
Some characters wish to remain loyal in their love, but acknowledge the difficulties this new situation will bring, and agree to move forward cautiously. Some struggle with the attraction/love aspect given Tav’s new form and want to move forward together as friends, but are unsure if it can ever be anything more. And some find it to be a threshold they cannot cross.
…but then we get to Gale.
Here’s the exact moment I fell out of my f*cking chair:
Tumblr media
Gale: Your ‘present condition’ is that you’re the one I love. And your current form is merely a reflection of the depths of your sacrifice. It only makes me love you more.
——
Just…look at adoration on this man’s face. HE IS NOT LYING. He is enamored beyond belief with Tav, and not even slightly bothered that his love has been permanently turned into a telepathic brain-eating squid monster.
Gale loves Tav so purely that he gives absolutely zero f*cks about what Tav looks like.
95% of his dialogue for this marriage proposal is exactly the same as his romance ending where Tav has not changed into a mindflayer. Every other companion’s conversation is notably different than their usual romance ending, as they take on a somber tone while trying to plan a way forward with Tav as a mindflayer, but Gale?
Gale’s biggest concern is finding a wedding caterer that can provide his darling Tav with a three-tiered raspberry layer cake with whipped cream and brain filling.
Remember when he told Tav: “I said exactly what I meant—I love you. You should never, never doubt that”? He meant it.
Gale raised the bar from: “Would you still love me if I was a worm?” To: “Would you still love me and have an elaborate public wedding if I was turned into a horrific brain-eating tentacle monster?” He would.
I adore this man.

I was gonna make this post way way earlier but I forgot lol but Uhm
I have played through the splatoon 2 story fully and am replaying it (for a future post bc a lot of the dialogue is rlly funny) and honestly while I absolutely loved it it makes me even sadder that splat 2’s story mode was kinda tossed aside (for valid reasons ofc) because it’s so Cool.
Excluding the gameplay, I think they did marie so well, because she sells the desperation of someone who’s got nobody she knows by her side. While she of course keeps the sassy attitude of sneak dissing her best friends (agent 3) and also telekinetically telling you to fuck off if you talk to her too much it’s very clear she genuinely cares so much about agent 4 and is so grateful they’re doing what they do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are only two screenshots of 8(?) of Marie randomly being really sentimental to 4 because this stranger chose to help her in her time of need rather than just ignore this GROWN WOMAN hanging out on a sewer drain
Tumblr media
It’s like heavily emphasized multiple times that Marie could not be more grateful for 4’s help in retrieving not just the zapfish but also her cousin.
But then revealing that 4 knew about Callie the WHOLE TIME (I have a lot to say about this part but it’s mostly hc so) which is so KIND OF THEM???? this random woman recruits them into a secret military agency and hides the fact she rlly misses her cousin but they help anyway bc they WANT TO. (They didn’t even know either of them were famous btw) Marie shows a lot of gratitude toward 4 ESPECIALLY after the big reveal.
(You could make arguments for 3 being similar bc an old kook made them do it but this isn’t about them..)
Tumblr media
And it’s not just being grateful for the one time, she genuinely enjoys 4’s company and wants to be better friends with them and chat after the zapfish and Callie are saved 😭😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so cute too, because 100%ing the game and even just being a little nosy is something that Marie picks up on, and remembers way later in the game. (More abt this later)
god I love this socially inept squid woman and her adopted child soldier that likes finding pieces of paper
Speaking of said soldier! I think the way they characterized 4 via the actual gameplay rather than art/statements/whatever is so cool
4 doesn’t have many illustrations besides the chaos splatfest and that one group photo where they’re being funky in the corner (and the apartment) but I feel like the reason for that is the fact that a lot of Marie’s dialogue as well as how splatoon 2’s hero mode is structured/designed speaks a lot about how they wanted to represent 4.
From a realistic standpoint, of course splatoon 2’s story mode has to be more creative both prompt wise and secret wise. But it feels like the reason its that way is because both 4 and Marie are separate types of people from Craig and 3.
The bosses help a lot with this too, being more gimmicky and weird (subtracting stamp.) Octo shower and samurai being bosses where you have to either react well or change your positioning to effectively beat them. (Octo shower is my fave btw I loved fighting it the first time)
The level design also shines in this aspect because if I’m honest I remember none of the splat 1 levels significantly besides the few octoling ones. Splatoon 2’s levels are very detailed (and also insanely pretty) and have some rlly fun puzzles in a handful of them and even the more fast ones are a blast to play through
And then all the little extras (sardiniums and scrolls alike) are hidden so well and you usually have to go out of your way to find them and even the secrets that aren’t either of those things have substance
Small note, a lot of extras are also made so that it flows well with the levels design (like the first dualie request mission) which is also extremely fucking cool.
the way marie touches on those little discoveries is so smart too because it (as I said before) characterizes 4 as someone who loves to look for things even if it’s on a whim especially since the sunken scrolls in the game are so much harder to find than in splat1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the fact that unlike splat 1, you can (technically) 800% the game by playing EVERY SINGLE LEVEL WITH EVER SINGLE WEAPON TYPE. to me it feels like it deepens the fact that 4 likes to be really thorough. marie goes “you have a problem.” When you break like two hidden egg crates in this one level and it’s so great.
Tumblr media
I love what they’ve done with 4, whether it was intentional or I’m over-analytical.
Nothing gets past them, looking in every nook and cranny whether or not there’s secrets to be found. They’re too nosy and thorough and they like to be around marie after completing missions, they don’t know who the squid sisters are, hate balloons, may or may not be ok, have impulsive secret finding, partake in many extracurriculars, can be needy at times, go with the flow and they apparently smell better than agent 3.
Agent four, of the New Squidbeak Splatoon.

How do you think Halsin would react to a Tav that is a clone or other kind of science experiment? Do you think he’d be mad if it wasn’t revealed until his romance scene? He has a decent mix of disliking such things but also accepting tav for strangness throughout game dialogue.
So what's interesting about Halsin is that a lot of his beliefs really aren't that Druidic. He's almost too empathetic to be a Druid in some cases.
Druids notoriously hate mindflayers (and indeed, Halsin does at the start too, and his objection to the Absolute is largely because the mindflayers are unnatural, at least at first). But Halsin is able to develop nuance and still see the player/Karlach/Orpheus for the hero they were before transforming- even though in some cases it is VERY clear that they are no longer the same person. (Seriously, Karlach's epilogue lines if she got squidded are precisely what convinced me this was NOT a happy ending for her, and she'd be better off dying or going to Avernus.)
Similarly, Druids hate the undead, including vampires. Halsin never once questions Astarion's humanity (well, you know what I mean). Halsin judges Astarion's actions, not what he is.
So I think he would gladly accept someone who was created under those circumstances- the quote he gives to a mindflayer Tav, "the sight is unnatural, but I can look past it to the spirit within."
As for being angry at not being told? THAT is a definitive yes. He values trust a great deal, especially among his companions. He has lines for Shadowheart where she can tell him she worships Shar; a passed skill roll or medium-level approval causes him to gain approval and applaud her bravery in telling him considering his history, while a negative roll or high levels of approval make him say he is saddened she didn't tell him sooner. (Meanwhile, if she tells him while she's already at low approval and fails the roll, he growls out that she's lucky they share a common purpose, because in most other cases this would make them enemies.)
Similarly, he has lines to Gale saying he wishes Gale had told them all about the orb sooner, so they could help with his burden.
So it's definitely about trust to him, not about being different to begin with.

Minecraft and brotherly bonding
So. I was watching hermitcraft and I had a realization about mourning dove Danny.
Minecraft would be perfect for him.
Now Iv played Minecraft every once in a while when I was younger, but I mostly get my knowledge out of watching people. This is irrelevant.
But one thing I did notice when playing it for myself, especially cus younger me had more trouble with this, was how people interacted with each other. Since the game is much simpler than irl, the “social cues” , or just how people portray how they feel by moving there character, it was much much easier for me to interact with people and know how to react back.
I propose that Minecraft would be a great way to slowly start integrating him back into society. Instead of risking going out at first, they “teach” him about interacting with people, and all the complicated bullshit that comes with it, by letting him play Minecraft online. There’s little to no risk, they can control the environment, and Danny can talk to strangers without them seeing him.
Of course we already know that Danny is working on writing, one of his biggest motivators being to text, and that applies here to. It actually gives him the choice to either type out in chat/with signs, or just with “body language” and both are equally accepted.
Of course, this comes with other benefits. It’s still a game after all, so they have fun as well. Him and Damian have a survival world together where they build stuff together (I imagine that Danny and dami like to just sit together in silence while Damien’s painting/drawing and Danny’s doing needle work:)), it ends up becoming a huge collab project with an entire city in it.
They all occasionally play server games, and they all have one world together, it’s very chaotic but Danny and Dick especially love it. Tim is a red stone GOD, and is teaching Danny, who is surprisingly good at it (you can’t convince me Danny isn’t a genius like the rest of the Fentons). Jason sets up traps to annoy his siblings. Cass just… collects materials. Mines for hours and keeps every. Single. Thing. The rest are terrified of what she will do with them. Steph has made an “empire” out of a village she ransacked, modded it to make all the villagers special and gave them their own names and everything. Duke keeps doing dumb shit just cus he can, like make a turtle farm in the nether or keep a warden as a pet. Babs is off doing her own thing, no one understands her builds but rest assured, it’ll aalll come together eventually. Danny likes to build cozy spaces, or just spaces that have a really good atmosphere in general. Lil builds that are just sprinkled around the map like how there’s always that random hutch in the middle of the woods in horror storys. They are all for random animals he grew attached to, like this one random cow or that squid he saw while walking to Tim’s base. This isn’t enough for a whole batch so here’s a lil muffin instead.
Mourning Dove is an au of Wayne’s Haunted Mansion by @tathartiel set around 4 years in the future. I recommend you read it if you haven’t, it’s adorable and heartbreaking.

I think it would have been neat if we had gotten an actual romance with the Emperor. Like, you don't even get special dialogue with the companions that walk in on you if you have sex with it, and I think the only people that even acknowledge that you slept with him are Orpheus and Raphael [surprise surprise they are both assholes about it too], and your character doesn't even have an option to defend or even say anything like??? You're not going to defend your own lover??? It is literally in your head and doesn't say anything about their comments too like?????
It really annoyed me, considering its dialogue leading up to the one [one] romance scene you have with it.
It's the one constant in every playthrough of the game and has so much relationship potential it kills me.
Can you imagine a romanced Emperor having more of a reaction to your character betraying it? Or maybe having more dream cutscenes.
How would it react to being broken up with? Or your character asking for a kiss like with the other romanced companions?
Would he be open to telling you about his past identity? What about sharing memories of when it was enslaved by the brain? Maybe you could have an arc with it about accepting your character as a humanoid, and he could have something different to say if your character chooses to accept ceremorphosis? There was just so many ways that their relationship could have developed and it's kind of a shame we didn't get anything.
They seriously could have leaned into him not giving a shit about Tav and only indulging them to get them to do what it wants and I would have been happy just to explore ANY new dynamics. God I could go on for days about this stupid sexy squid. I was going off in a text chat about it and now I have to spill the bitching into here because I need to do more screaming into the void.

His Meal (Front Man x Waitress!Reader)
♡ Synopsis || Your job is to deliver meals to the Front Man in time. One clumsy day made him prepare his own snack.
♡ Content warnings || Handcuffing, power dynamics, having control, eating out, dubious consent
♡ Author’s note || Apologies for the long, long wait (I was planning on coming back months ago oops) I would not blame you all if you have lost interest in Squid Game, but I hope you all enjoy reading this anyway if you stayed :) This will probably get a part 2 because I got another request similar to this one ;)
Tried my best to continue using genderless terminology so everyone can feel included
Tumblr media
PART 1
The Front Man always requires his meals to be delivered straight to his floor on time. Or more specifically, to his room.
You can't even remember how long you have worked in this place, yet you still feel nervous every time you go up on that floor. Something about serving the manager of this place made you feel odd in your stomach.
Today you are late. Usually, you finish preparing lunch well before delivery time, but this afternoon you had to help clean up some of the circle soldiers' messes. Normally you work alongside the circle soldiers in helping out with domestic chores. Except you did not wear the pink jumpsuits. You did wear a mask, however, but it was not a simple geometric shape. It was to protect your identity, but it also felt to be a way to show off your devotion and loyalty to this place. You were one of a kind; your role was to be a 'waitress'.
Everyone had a hierarchical position in the facility. You were not sure what ranking you would be classified to be, but you knew that you were certainly in a more 'honourable' position than the circle guards you worked alongside. That's why the Front Man trusts only you to deliver his meals, and the reason why you – as far as you knew – were the only person that could walk on his floor beside himself and the host. For duty reasons, obviously. It's not like you could just wander around his floor as you wish.
Nervously, you knocked on his bedroom door, as that's where he usually rests around this time. A gap in between the door allowed you to peer through, making you able to have a glimpse of the back of his exposed head. You watch as he puts his mask on and pulls up his hoodie, covering up the dark hair he had. As he stands up to walk closer to the door, you take a step back and pretend you had not spied on him.
He opens the door. "You're late." The Front Man says before you could even say anything. "My sincerest apologies, sir, but there was a slight inconvenience I had to handle." "I do not care what it was, but be warier about your actions next time. You know how we must do everything perfectly, there cannot be room for tardiness." "Yes sir." The system in this place prioritises perfection. In order for the annual games to commence, you cannot afford to make any mistakes. Neglecting one small, simple thing can end everything in a disaster. That's why you always make sure to do everything perfectly, to impress The Front Man. To gain praise from the Front Man. To…
Crash!
Ironically, the platter of food fell straight on the ground.
This led to a brief moment of silence. You would expect yourself to apologise instantly for causing this disturbance while immediately rushing to action to help, like how you usually react when you do something wrong. But this time, you were too stunned to move. How could you cause this mess?
Your gaze stayed on the ground, looking at the mess you have caused. As you look up, your eyes instantly lock with the dark eyes through the Front Man's mask, unaware that he had been staring at you this whole time.
"I-" "Enough," he sternly said. "Come in here." You were guided inside the Front Man's room. This was the first time you ever placed a foot on the other side of his door, you know you have made a severe mistake.
"Sit down," he gestured as he spoke, pointing at his bed.
Slowly, you walk towards his bed and sit down. You look up as he reaches for your chin, gently lifting your mask. Your face felt the coldness of the air in the room while your cheeks burnt with red. When he completely took your mask off, his finger traced your lips, making you feel the warmth of them.
"Looks like I have to do something about your reckless behaviour today."
The Front Man pulls out a pair of handcuffs as he pushes you up to the top of his bed, making you lie down. He grabs both of your hands and cuffs them together with the frame of his bed.
He looked at your face as he tried to slip his hand under your top. You give him a slight nod of approval, and he continues to touch you like his property. That's what you were after all, a maid that left their individuality to cater to the Front Man's desires. He exposes your torso to see you better, feeling your skin. His hand gropes your chest while his fingers pinched your nipples. Your inability to do anything about him playing with you made you realise how truly helpless you were in this situation.
After having fun with toying you, he unwraps your clothes. Now you had nothing except your undergarments on… well not for long. Before you knew it, he was already sliding them off while maintaining eye contact through his mask, making sure you weren't uncomfortable. You watch as he shuffles down, lifting up the bottom of his mask to align his open mouth between your thighs after swiftly spreading your legs. Watching him position himself made you feel your heartbeat ring in your ears as you were drowned with anticipation.
At the first contact, your neck immediately flings back as a reflex. His soft yet wet tongue touched the surface of your private regions. This sudden feeling sent a shockwave internally, completely blurring your thoughts to focus on one feeling: pleasure.
His tongue poked inside your hole which made you feel all sorts of emotions. He made sure to take his time before inserting his tongue in again, allowing you to embrace every feeling while he savoured every taste. He gradually got deeper and more intense, pressing especially hard on the parts that react the most passionately to the sensitivity As you tried to recollect your breaths, his hands brushed your skin, squeezing the more vulgar parts of your body. The Front Man took complete control over you.
The intense feeling made you want to release a loud moan that you had kept suppressed in your throat. You should be the one in charge of what your own body does, right? Or so you thought. The Front Man proved to you who was really in charge; his tongue dug deeper than you ever imagined it to be, squirming around all the edges. The motion of his tongue increased pace as he did all sorts of things with it: motioning it in and out, spiralling it around. You wanted to cup your mouth with your hands. It was all too much, you had to let out your cries.
This is where you completely lost it. The sensual feeling of being eaten out had made you completely lose any power you had over yourself. Your body and your mind completely submitted to the Front Man himself. No thoughts in your head anymore, just the need to feel more pleasure.
The moans and whines from your mouth only made the Front Man get much more aggressive. He pushed you to your edge until you felt yourself reach a certain point. You couldn't keep up anymore, he was doing so well.
With one last moan, you climax onto the Front Man's mask. Your body shook from the impact as your world turned all bright and serene. How disrespectful, you thought after realising what you had done. You should have at least warned him, but you were unprepared. The Front Man looks up at you and sits up, taking off his tainted mask.
"Looks like you made another mess to clean up."

Something I find so genuinely interesting as someone who's a native Spanish speaker is how different the two communities reacted to Squid Games.
Like, the English speakers are genuinely baffled about the production level of it and just so happy about their favorite streamers being invited, meanwhile we the Spanish speakers are just complaining lmao.
We've had Squid Games before, and we've had multiple other events in Minecraft, so we're impressed, yeah, just not as much. And we're all upset about the amount of bugs there were. Meanwhile the English speakers are just "omg it was so good!"
Genuinely hilarious how stark the difference is.

U.S. audiences enjoy survival horror stories with Asians in Asia, like Squid Game and Battle Royale. But they don’t want to acknowledge that Asian Americans’ lived reality is a survival horror too.
I have mixed feelings about Squid Game's success. I enjoy the survival horror genre as both a writer and consumer, but seeing how non-Asian U.S. audiences reacted to it in the midst of violent anti-Asian hate crimes left me wondering about the reason for the show's U.S. appeal.
Violence against Asians—particularly when done en masse—is so normalized that I wonder if this type of media provides catharsis to racists. News of hate crimes might briefly force them to feel guilty, but when they see fictional violence against Asians, they can cheer for it. It's as if it evokes the imagery Americans are most familiar with: slaughtering Asians by the dozens or even thousands, a legacy of numerous U.S. wars in Asia. The victims are nameless and unimportant. They're just a statistic, a plot point. One more to add to the body count.
Also, the U.S. loves using Asians in Asia as media replacements for AsAms. It simultaneously reinforces Asians as perpetual foreigners, and prevents giving a microphone to the type of Asian American who would unflinchingly discuss anti-Asian racism and challenge the status quo.
Asian men especially are seen as disposable targets with no humanity and no purpose other than to be mocked and slaughtered on screen. Deadpool, Daredevil, Avengers, Bullet Train, Kill Bill, etc. feature scenes where a protagonist cuts down hordes of Asian men in seconds.
This has real-life consequences. Hate crimes against AAPI men have been purposely belittled, hidden, and ignored—even in media narratives that purport to draw attention to anti-Asian racism. It becomes a feedback loop that double-victimizes AAPI men. (see my data thread)
The hatred of Asian men is so normalized that in AsAm spaces the only acceptable Asian male victim to publicly mention is Vincent Chin, who was murdered 40 years ago. There have been many Vincent Chins since then. But victims get reduced to headlines like "killed over duck sauce.”
Instead, when anti-Asian hate crimes are discussed, it's limited to a narrow range of experience, privileging East Asian women over pretty much all other Asians. This erasure is harmful on many levels and has still not been corrected or even acknowledged. (see my data thread)
I think many AsAms feel like Asian Twitter recently died. But for me, it died several years ago, when Asians with media power decided that all of this harm and imbalance was not only normal, but good. Our community has been broken for a long time. They don't want to fix it.
So does this mean Squid Game, Battle Royale, etc. are bad stories? No. It means we need better real-life conversations and efforts to understand what anti-Asian racism is and how to fix it. Survival horror is a fun thought experiment—until you realize you're living in one.

seeing people talk about trizooka's current place in the meta on twitter is so interesting to me. people say its unreactable and it is, to an extent. people say others just need better reaction time, and thats also right. these two ideas can coexist in my opnion- because the problem is that this reaction time being needed to counter such an oppressive, powerful special is really unhealthy for the game from what i can see
for example, using a main weapon that you also need good reaction time to react to: with chargers, you constantly know theyre on the map. they usually take the same positions on maps, and thats easy to notice, especially after playing in the match for a bit. you know their field of vision and where theyre currently aiming if youre observant. you can take advantage of their positioning a lot of the time and go for them (if youre a slayer or midline). another key factor is that they cant hit anyone thats behind cover, so there's blind spots.
but with trizooka, you dont exactly know where it is most of the time. trizooka's usually up by the frontline, which has a lot more positions and opportunities for pushes. it can also be shot from further back which introduces a lot more positions to account for. and, since trizooka usually gets placed on frontline slayer weapons, with only one exception (tenta brella) so far, its easy for the user to switch between these positions. trizooka's shots are arched, meaning it can shoot over cover and hit people behind cover with well aimed shots.
sure, having better reaction time and personal positioning helps with avoiding getting hit by tri's shots, but keeping track of the trizooka user should not be this challenging, too. the only way you can watch for it is by noticing a change in the squid/octo icons at the top of the screen, which requires you to take your vision off of any current fights, and something that goes away as soon as the special is activated, which is usually in an instant. there's a chance you cant even follow the trizooka user's map positioning if they arent in your field of vision, which is what typically happens (especially when youre respawning).
this is bad enough, but the special being able to be stacked quite easily thanks to its main weapons working well with each other (squeezer, splattershot, machine) makes it so much worse. especially when both shooters here have minimal shot rng (shot spread, theyre going to be hitting most if not all of their shots on the opponent) and splattershot has good painting (able to just straight up farm for special i think. take that with a grain of salt though, im not sure).
now you have multiple frontlines taking multiple and usually different positions on the map that can pull out trizooka at a moments notice and fire almost immediately. this special needs more start-up lag and quick

(though if you want to send an ask to someone else who reblogged one of these, you are encouraged to do so!) I made these for the sake of making them, not for the sake of using them myself, lol.
