Actual play characters will be battle masters and I’ll be a little disappointed because there’s so many other fun fighter subclasses and everyone’s always a battle master, but then I’ll see them play and it’s like fine maybe this is a bit cool

I’m obsessed with the idea of a Dark Urge with the divine soul sorcerer subclass.
I know it’s like the cleric-flavored version of a sorcerer, but I would love it for story reasons. You could really lean into the whole child of divinity thing.
With a sorcerer in general, your magic is just an instinctive, intrinsic part of you. With the divine soul subclass, you would have that added level of having evil divine magic right from Bhaal himself (inflict wounds) and be shown to be his favored child with the “Favored by the Gods” feature. It would add another level of deliciousness to your Dark Urge’s relationship with Orin by showing that YOU were clearly dad’s golden child.
From a role play standpoint, it would be fun for evil Dark Urges to lean into and fascinating for good ones to contend with.

Each time I reread the mystic document I understand it more, and feel more compelled to play it, just to try it at least once.
It's like, cursed magic to me. Like in a story when someone says "Ooho, don't go learning those types of magic, it eats your soul" or whatever.
Can't be that bad for me...

how do D&D players on here feel about the "martial vs caster" gap in the game.
i see dnd reddit talk a lot about how martials are underpowered/valued compared to casters (and how no one seems to want to play pure martials like barbarians/fighters now) but i have limited trust in reddit.
if you havent heard of what the gap is it boils down to spell caster classes, like wizards and sorcerers and druids, having the most useful abilities in and out of combat and also have more fun in the game, while martials like fighters (specifically) are only good for hitting things with their swords.
