Omg thank you! Also- awe man, u have no idea!! After doing this drawing I have so much ideas I am thinking about! So it's going to be a long response, 4give.😅 So basically the pitch is, Dice grew up in pretty much not financially well and rough side of town. Parents were great and hard workers, nice family. They try to get by with they can. During this time Dice would use his free time to learn how to dance and sing. It's his hobby really and he enjoys it!! It came almost naturally to him, although it took him a few mess ups. He has a great gift and his parents encouraged him to use it "for good" ((foreshadowing be like-)). They say to him, if he works hard he can do anything. Teen years, Dice starts working to help his family while also studying books ofc. Dice for the most part stays out of trouble, but can get into the wrong crowd which leads to conflicts. He's not a bad kid just bad decisions. I still need to brainstorm here tbh. ⚡⚡⚡ When Dice is adult things are still pretty rough. He works a job he hates, barely gets paid enough for what he has to deal with, and lives in not the best apartment complex ((but it will do tbh.)) Another thing I want to add: is that during this point of his live, Dice gets really into watching tv shows and listening to radio broadcasts. He really enjoys the charisma and stage presence. He loves to even pretend and daydream to be one sometimes, sadly. He wants to become one instead of what he's doing with his life at the moment, but isn't sure how to get there. And one day while he is finishing his shift, guess who he meets, waiting for this opportunity to make a life-changing offer. 😈 Yee!! I want to flesh this out soooooo bad. I am even considering a comic, but I am sure that would take a while or at least I believe it will. I really am not sure, if you guys are interested I will consider it!! :) Thx again for your compliments and the ask. @night-market-if The Night Market - I really admire and appreciate the world building of this if (also love all the hints at mythology and take on some religions in it) and how it’s not all so black and white for the characters, in the sense that even if I don’t agree with the choices of some characters I still get where they’re coming from and for me that’s characters well written that I enjoy!

@louroth Ouroboros - darker theme, apocalyptic vibes but with some magic and fantasy in there. I like the different MCs you can make and you also have some monster options for the ROs, if you like that!

@ataleofcrowns A tale of Crowns - The setting for this if is one of my faves and all the ROs are captivating yet diverse along with their backstory and I love the building of the MC as well (check out D storyline if you like the angst of A’s in Wayhaven, they’re very different but the angst hits good)

@coeluvr Crown of Ashes and Flame - I really like the setting and, again, you can seek vengence, if you want, and the characters are all interesting and you can get a nice dose of angst if that’s what you like

@llamagirl28 The Bastard of Camelot - again really enjoy the theme of Arthurian legends and the spin the author chose. You get a lot of options for the ROs to pick from and you can also choose the type of relationship you’ll have with your parents AND you get a dragon (read the warning before playing and make sure you’re comfortable with what you’re gonna read)

@intimidatingpuffinstudios The Soulstone War Series - again fantasy with magic, dragons, an interesting plot, you get a donkey and the RO’s are all hot hahaha

@fallenhero-rebirth The Fallen Hero Series - superhero themed but in an apocalyptic world and you play as the villain! It was one of the first if’s I’ve played and I still replay it every once in a while cause I really like it!

i will say this, in case you haven't left yet, in case it might make you change your mind?:

(spoilers, nothing too major and it's vague. please read only if you're at all concerned about the level things will go in this story)

most important, which is why i'm saying this first: all the Curse related gore is limited to ACT 2!

the story is focused more on the results of what happens because of the curse from then on out, so the actual Curse itself doesn't need to be so graphic once it's been established.

i can't exactly say why or what that entails because it's a major spoiler, but i will say siffrin's rotting will stop in ACT 3. if u want to return to the story at this point, i'd say you'd be fine to do so.

most of the Curse stuff that'll happen to siffrin will be described and not shown, as I don't particularly want to draw anything too gorey myself.

and if that's still too intense, i can add additional posts that describe what happened w/out detail whenever something nasty happens.

the finger thing might(?) happen, i haven't decided if i'm going to commit to that or if its just going to rot. they're going to have their hands covered so we won't see it anyway. its certainly going to be a source of conflict and tension, but idk if i want the pay-off to be "yeah them suckers are gone" or something that prevent that.

i have a loose plan for the story while i have core elements like character backstory and plot threads somewhat planned. details like this can be fuzzy.

Ranking the First Five Stormlight Novels

For the record, this is not meant to be an objectively correct ranking or anything--but it is my personal ranking. I wanted to wait to do this until Stormlight 5 came out!

And I gotta say--I like all of the books. But I can rank them by "least favorite" to "favorite," even if they're all among my favorite books in general, you know?

[Spoilers for Wind & Truth! ...And all the other Stormlight books too!]

#5: Wind and Truth

I feel bad ranking the newest book at the lowest spot...but so it goes. The thing is: I'm a simple woman. I come to Stormlight Archive looking for people with huge fantasy swords fighting each other in the sky. And while I do respect and understand Kaladin finding his place outside of battles and becoming a Therapist to the Stars, I did honestly miss him getting to duke it out against overwhelming odds.

I will say that this was probably my favorite Adolin book--his WAT arc was my favorite. I also loved the new ways that Shallan is using her powers, to say nothing of finally getting the Rlain/Renarin love story. It was also extremely gratifying to finally get a lot of the backstory about the Stormfather and Honor and the Recreance. I'm also fascinated that so many arcs involved oaths being broken framed as a good thing.

Lots of great stuff in Stormlight 5. But my monkey brain really wanted more sky fights.

#4: Oathbringer

I have to imagine that if you are a Dalinar stan, Oathbringer is probably your absolute favorite book. I'm a Dalinar fan but not a Dalinar stan, so that definitely flavors my reaction to this book.

This one does have one of my favorite Sanderlanches--the battle of Thaylen city is amazing (and Shallan single-handedly fighting an entire army does legitimately make me tear up every time). The invasion of Kholinar storyline is also great, and I loved meeting Azure.

Again, lots of good stuff, but not as much good stuff as some of the other books, at least for me.

#3: Rhythm of War

Rhythm of War was challenging for me because Kaladin is having the ABSOLUTE WORST time in his whole life and it's sometimes legitimately hard to read about it. At the same time, we get such great Kaladin fights thanks to the Pursuer, and one of the all-time great Kaladin Dramatic Entrances at the end.

Plus, I mean....Navani and Raboniel? So good! So toxic! Such an accidental toxic yuri horrifying love story. I'm such a sucker for self-sacrifice too, so Raboniel sacrificing herself to save Navani AFTER Navani killed her? That could have been created in a lab just for me.

PLUS this book had Maya and Adolin, both their kata fight and the whole "WE CHOSE" scene.

Incredible book, IMO.

#2: Way of Kings

I go back and forth about whether Way of Kings or Words of Radiance is my favorite, if I'm being honest. At the moment of writing this list, it's turned out this way.

I really love Way of Kings. The whole bridgeman plotline is horrifying but so compelling, and I love watching Kaladin build himself and his man back up. I love seeing all of the ways they manage to survive, from the side-carry to, well, war-crime armor I guess. The scene of Kaladin surviving the highstorm--with Syl in front trying to block it--is one of my all-time favorite scenes ever. The Tower Fight is fantastic all the way through. And the end with Dalinar giving up his shardblade to save the bridgemen is so earned.

On a first read I was less compelled by Shallan's narrative but it honestly gets more compelling the more often I reread which I've done...let's say a few times. She's such a great character from the first line.

#1: Words of Radiance

As I mentioned at the beginning, I am a simple woman sometimes when it comes to my fantasy series. Words of Radiance wins for me because it contains my three favorite plotlines / scenes:

The 4 v. 1 duel. So amazingly fun to read. Such a good scene for Adolin, for Kaladin, for Renarin. "Honor is dead but I'll see what I can do." Come ON.

Kaladin & Shallin fieldtrip in the chasms. I loved the way their relationship developed over the course of this scene. The end when they're huddled in the cave in the middle of the highstorm while listening to the Fused above them, telling each other their true stories--top-notch. Plus I'm a sucker for storylines where people have to both use and hide their powers, and so the fact that they're both Radiant and trying to hide that from each other makes me giggle maniacally.

The Kaladin vs. Szeth duel. This fight has EVERYTHING. They're in the sky. It's a highstorm. They literally run across enormous boulders that were RIPPED from the GROUND by the storm while said boulders are SPINNING THROUGH THE STORM. It's so over-the-top and it's my favorite fight in the whole series.

So that's me! I know there are tons of "What's your favorite Stormlight book" polls out there, but if you want to put your ranking in the tags I'd be interested to see it!

Fiction Podcasts Formatted as Nonfiction Podcasts Recs

I do love an audio drama where the format is a nonfiction podcast, it must be said. Lots of friendship in these because I am a sucker for a good friendship.

The BookMarks

Two best friends, Mark and Marquelle Bookerson (no relation), have a podcast where they review books in an increasingly-wacky-and-fun fantasy alternate modern day. Improvised comedy. The worldbuilding gets weirder with every passing episode, and I love that for it.

Englewood After Dark

Two best friends, Eve and Finn, have a true crime podcast where they unpack cold cases. The pair are college students at a university popularly (and correctly) thought to be haunted. Believer/skeptic dynamic. Horror.

Shelterwood

Nick's sister went missing years ago, leaving a note referencing a town, Shelterwood. When he comes across this strange suburb where time doesn't flow right, Nick follows his lead to find his sister while sending audio back to the normal world to his best friend Solomon to hopefully edit into a full podcast. Hopefully, he can find his sister without being trapped forever in the alluring comfort of Shelterwood. Horror. Warning for kids' toys/cartoons used for horror. (A trope I personally dislike and find very rarely warned for.) Not my favorite on this list, but I love Solomon especially in terms of characters, and I did listen to the full season, actively engaged if not always enjoying it per se.

Rabbits (season 1 only)

Rabbits season 1 follows a journalist, Carly, trying to find her best friend, Yumiko, who went missing while participating in a dodgy ARG. To find her, Carly tracks down and begins to play the ARG, known only as the Game, being pulled deeper and deeper into the reality bending world it entails and creating a shaky allegiance with a fellow player with whom she shares a surprising amount of backstory. Horror, multiverse thriller. Season 1 is incredibly engaging and has a very satisfying plot, and I love Carly's ally Jones so much. If you enjoyed the tv show The OA, especially its second season, you will enjoy this.

DO NOT LISTEN TO SEASON 2. You will be tempted to listen to season 2, but it is not only very bad in terms of characters, plot, and worldbuilding, but it will also kneecap the beats of the first season. Resist temptation. Stick to season 1! Which is good! Warning for unreality, especially the fact that the character has the name name as the actor, and the podcast company is the same as in the fiction.

I mentioned this before— But the character Kyra was originally meant to be shipped with was actually Jamil. But!! After some thought, I ultimately decided that Floyd would be a better partner for Kyra instead.

Soo, take this post as me rambling about how and why Floyra came to be, and why I scrapped the Jamyra concept all together.

Kyra already had an established character and backstory before being shipped with anyone. Usually, I like to create the characters and flesh them out before shipping them with anyone. Although there are times where I do create characters for the sake of shipping (*cough cough* Jester *cough cough*) my process with developing OCs usually focuses on them as a character individually first, then their relationships with canon characters after.

And at first, I thought the idea of Jamil x Kyra was interesting. My main reasoning for Kyra x Jamil was the idea of it.

Caged bird metaphors for days, both come from somewhat similar issues when it comes to not being allowed to be their own person, ect ect. (Also, if you couldnt tell already im a SUCKER for Opposites Attract and Grumpy x Sunshine)

In a way, I liked it because they were so similar yet so different lorewise, having this strict set of expectations put unto them and not being able to act against those expectations— but yet, despite how similar they are, they ended up completely different.

And while it is a good trope— It just simply doesn’t work. Why? Well, because Jamil, putting it bluntly, isn’t the kind of person that would be best for Kyra. (ITS OKAY!!! HES STILL BIG BRO!!!!! I saved him from a neverending headache w Kyra LMFAOO)

I started to take into consideration Kyra herself. What kind of person would she want? How does she love? What kind of person would she be attracted to? What does she need in someone? Who would make her happy?

after having to bottle up all her feelings and ignoring her own desires and wants— Kyra needs someone that would support her.

She doesn’t need nor wants someone to stop her from doing the things that she does, what she needs is someone to support her. And I doubt that Jamil would be supportive of her shennanigans LMAOO 😭

Then I got to thinking, if not Jamil who else could I ship her with ??

Then I realized, “Oh, Floyd would be perfect, wouldn’t he?”

Now, Floyd has always been my favorite character from TWST! But I just didnt want to be biased and miss out on good ship material with another character😭 funny how it worked out though WHAHAHA

Not only would Floyd support her shennanigans— he’d encourage her to do it. And while that probably isn’t the best in some cases, Kyra definetly deserves someone that would support her actual wants after all this time.

I mentioned this before, but Kyra sees alot of herself in Floyd. Yeah, they are weirdly similar (and that actually was not planned), and thats exactly the reason why Kyra was ever attracted to Floyd in the first place. (In general, not even romantically lmao)

And seeing him show all of these traits without a care in the world, to act out on what he feels and what he wants, it encourages her to do the same. And it encourages her to be herself even more, which is exactly what she needs!

There are still times Kyra is hesitant to do things, old habits die hard, but Floyd just being himself is enough to encourage Kyra to do the same. He influences her in a way others view as “bad”, but for someone like Kyra, its honestly the best for her.

Not only that, but I personally see Floyd as the kind of person to not really care about looks. Yeah, he can see when someone’s attractive and he acknowledges it, but he really does not care 😭

In my opinion, he values personality much more. Anyone who can entertain him or whoever he deems “fun”.

Kyra has never been seen for anything other than her beauty. Always seen but never heard. And while Floyd does think shes pretty… He really didn’t care about that when they first met LMAOO

It would be refreshing for Kyra to have someone who actually didn’t care all that much for her appearance. Instead hanging out with her for her personality. She was so used to men always sticking by her because of her pretty face that it was a breath of fresh air when she realized that Floyd wasn’t like that, and they were just genuinely friends.

The fact that Floyd doesnt care about appearances at all shouldn’t really be a big deal, but Kyra would be OVER THE MOON about it.

“Ah, I don’t care about that sorta thing. If you were boring, I would’ve ditched you a long time ago, hahaha!” And now suddenly Kyra is swooning and fanning herself and getting weak in the knees and blushing and giggling and kicking her feet and twirling her hair and—💥💥💥

Kyra needs a best friend in a partner. Someone that makes her want to open up and be vulnerable, but also makes her loosen up and have fun. She needs someone that can support her and can keep up with her regardless of how chaotic and rambunctious she can get— and who better than the menace himself??

No one can keep up with Kyra. And no one can really keep up with Floyd, either (Well, besides Jade, that is.). It was perfect! Because turns out, they’re the only ones that can keep up with eachother.

While continuing to think on it, I began realizing that they were also similar in other ways! And they can definetly understand eachother because of it.

Two people who have never had anyone bother to even try and understand them, no one really trying to look underneath the surface. Thinking that because of that, they dont “need” anyone to. But when they find eachother?? AUGH, they realize it really does feel nice for someone to “get it”.

Floyd understands and encourages Kyra in a way I don’t think Jamil could, and so !!! Floyra became a thing!!! YIPPEEYIPPEYIPPEEEE !!!!

My perfect little weirdos, even if no one really gets them they understand eachother better than anyone else can, and thats all that really matters. Their similarities in personality and ideals that brought them together, and I’m really just a sucker for the whole soulmates thing 😭

While of course, there are definetly flaws— with Kyra’s secretive nature and both of them being somewhat afraid of opening up and being vulnerable, its also because of those flaws that they end up working together. Because for once, they found someone that can truly understand them, and they’d be damned to let them slip away.

Eldwin: Definitely family-oriented characters. Hmm I can't really drop a kinlist because I don't know very many characters lol (during that vibes poll trend I quickly realised I consume very little media 😭) but yeah characters who would give up everything for their family, maybe have a sad backstory relating to family like Sanemi from Demon Slayer, also Tanjiro and Nezuko. This is not just me projecting but honestly Childe from genshin, tragic backstory, blood-thirsty weapon for the Tsaritsa, but he adores his little siblings and will do anything to protect them? Yeah that sort of character.

Jowan: GOOD FATHERS. I'm sorry but even his repressed ass would be a sucker for soft family dynamics. I haven't seen more than like two episodes but I think he'd feel something watching Bluey. I couldn't say he'd cry, because it's Jowan. But he'd feel something.

Also maybe Shinobu (from demon slayer) if you don't know she's a doctor, she seems sweet and is always smiling but it's a mask because underneath she's burning with anger and stole the personality of her dead sister. Yeah he'd probably think that's interesting.

Ancassius: Tengen Uzui. I'm sorry he was the first one who popped into my head he'd love Tengen. Bold, flashy, absolutely adores his wives above anything else - yeah. Tengen-type characters. (sorry I rly like Demon Slayer it's basically all I know.)

Kieran: He'd gravitate towards characters who grow from hardship. Characters who have been through so much but instead of choosing anger they fight to be good. Characters who could easily become assholes, but they wake up every day and actively choose kindness.

20. What was your first thought in creating them?

Okay, so Eldwin was my very first oc ever made, probably at least 6, 7 years ago now. Obviously, I wanted someone to whump. That's basically the sole reason lmao. I also wanted to explore historical fiction - it was initially very light fantasy, basically victorian london with elves and magic, but as since bloomed into a world of it's own.

Jowan was literally just a tool for lab whump. That's it. I based his personality loosely on Varian from Tangled: The Series, but he was never supposed to have been a full fleshed-out character. Then I made him a little too silly and a little too sad and whoops here we are. I'm glad though, I love him and I'm happy others seem to love him too <3

Ancassius I thought it would be pretty fun for him to compliment Eldwin as a character. I mean if Eldwin's edgy and serious and gloomy, Ancassius is bright and cheerful and hopeful, I thought they'd be fun together. In super early drafts they just worked together, but then I thought Eldwin needed a friend, so now they're the childhood friends angst. Yay for them!

Kieran. Because Eldwin is much more morally-grey, I wanted to play with the archetype of a sweet and kind whumpee. I also wanted to play with a famous whumpee but things didn't turn out that way lol, so that's still on the table for a future character.

Eldwin:

Is it cliché if I say himself lol. Okay, maybe...he's afraid of a lot of people. I think he still is afraid of Alistair just because he doesn't know what he's about, and he can't read him. He's been nice to Eldwin so far (notreallybuteldwinthinksso) but there's just... something about him. Not like Mordwen, who has this vague otherworldly-ness about her, no Alistair is very much mortal. Just... I mean, he's the leader of a mafia for a reason. And Eldwin's certainly heard rumours. I think he can't predict Alistair at all, and that frustrates and scares him.

He's afraid of Mordwen even though he rarely see's her anymore, not since he doesn't need her to teach him magic. But he still remembers what she was like, and the crushing feeling of wrongness when she's in the room. Almost like being in a dream...

He's afraid of Clyde and Nels only a little bit, just because he knows Clyde will punish him just for the sake of it. With Nels, it's less that Eldwin's afraid of Nels himself, and more that he's afraid of messing up around him because he trusts Nels to only punish him when he deserves it, but that still doesn't make it easy. I think he's also afraid of disappointing him not because of punishment but because he likes Nels...

He was once terrified of Vor'gol (his pact demon) but that fear has waned in recent years hearing nothing from him. He probably should be more afraid, but alas.

JOWAN:

Well, it was his Father, but he's been dead for several years. Hmm I think he's simultaneously afraid of everyone and yet of no one, know what I mean? Don't worry I'm not sure I do either.

I'll say Clyde makes him nervous though. Clyde has never and will never harm him, Jowan is working there willingly after all, but... he's just intimidating, and it's quite clear that he doesn't like Jowan.

ANCASSIUS:

Merfolk, in general. Which is a bit unfair as most of them are fine, but some of them are like... well I saw some like sea-naga art I reblogged ages ago, with I think hypnosis, and well, it inspired me haha. Reckon he's probably also made a few enemies in his time. Generally though Ancassius is very confident and it's hard for him to be afraid of a person.

KIERAN:

Lukas, of course. Need I say more? Also Heather to an extent, but we may or may not talk about that in the next fic, depends what I'm doing LOL.

It was Lukas' friends who got Lukas into making the red room and snuff content in the first place, he met some shady people. I wonder if Kieran will ever meet them too?

Hi Mafu!! Ok, so im thinking of reader having a not-so-secret crush on Kai (Tournament Of Elements) and when he starts trying to impress Skylor (?), reader gets jealous and inevitably confesses to him? im a sucker for unrequited love BUT, i hate sad endings 😔

I hear you my guy, let's do this. I got a perfect idea for the reader and plot, but I wasn't happy with my first draft so I wrote the whole thing AGAIN. So sorry it took this long! (Also to other readers, currently 3 more somewhat different oneshots are in progress!)

Though there was a little problem with the ending. I didn't want to make it sad, but unrequited love is sad as hell. So I just... did something? Yeah, it might not be the best. I STILL STAND BY MY PERFECT IDEA STATEMENT THOUGH!

One more thing: One thing I don't like about oneshots is that I don't have time to make character backstories full and character development is none existent. RAH!

(y/n) was finally in his element, no, not literally. Well, Jay did always call him the Master of Attention-seeking, but (y/n) didn't need to 'seek' anything now.

Lloyd, the leader of the group, was wary. Jay and Cole, well, they were somewhat exited. And Kai? The usual, for now.

The 'after party' was supposed to be an informal event to those who had survived the first few rounds of the games. But it could hardly be called that, when Chen was the one hosting it. Sensei Garmadon hadn't even bothered to show up.

There was a table filled with a total feast, much to Cole's delight. Basically everyone who was still in the tournament was there, along with kabuki and other servants. Though Lloyd had insisted against it, the ninja team had split up to enjoy themselves after the most stressful 48 hours of their lives.

So basically, the crowd was huge. And though many were wary of the ninja, (y/n) won over peoples hearts left and right, as he usually did.

The eyes on him brought out a proud smile. (y/n) had all the attention he could need. And didn't have to create it himself, like he usually did, with his powers. He was a ninja and part of the tournament, so of course he had an element. The Element of Illusion.

A good distraction, even better against those who hadn't anticipated. And (y/n) had basically mastered it. His illusion, as long as he was clear headed himself, were perfect.

Even when not in battle, (y/n) would still use it. When he felt bad, felt down, or felt... they way he did before he met the team, he'd do it. He'd create illusions, crowds of people, all there to give him affirmation.

Okay, not all his uses for his powers were depressing like that. In fact, his powers would sometimes do their own thing. When (y/n) was happy, 'flowers' would bloom in places they really weren't supposed to. And when he was mad, those flowers would wilt and droop downward pathetically.

But as long as he was at the center of at least someones eyes, he was happy as if he had just caught lightning in a bottle. That was just the kind of person he was. (y/n) had to admit, Jay's usual nickname for him wasn't that far off.

(y/n) didn't ponder how he grew up like this, probably had something to do with neglect in his childhood. But well, his favorite past times were talking, listening, gossiping and partying.

On the sofa (y/n) comfortably lounged on, the Illusion ninja was chatting with one of the other competitor, the Master of Light, Mr. Pale, or Jared Pale, 32, twice divorced and currently in a fight defending all his property in a legal battle with his second ex-wife, as (y/n) now knew.

"Come on, tell me more about your powers," Mr. Pale really though he was the one draining information out of (y/n), but he couldn't be more wrong. "How do they work?"

"Just like yours do, Jason." (y/n) smiled sweetly, acting as if he didn't realize what Mr. Pale was trying to get out of him. (y/n) took a sip from his glass filled with bourbon and ice. It was only his first, so he wasn't even a little out of it yet. But he had told Lloyd it was ice tea, otherwise the green ninja would have 100% taken the entire thing away from him already.

Around (y/n) were both neon lights and lanterns, highlighting him as the star attraction of the room. Those had appeared on their own, but out of consideration, (y/n) had created Chen a little crown illusion just to make sure he wouldn't get jealous.

(y/n) took another sip of his drink, before sighing contently. But then his eyes traveled to something on the side of the hall, and suddenly (y/n) was neither listening to what Mr. Pale was saying or even smiling.

By the standing table with the feast, Skylor, red-headed Master of Amber was filling her plate with food while Kai Smith, red ninja, fire ninja, king of all things stubborn stood next to her with that idiotic grin on his face.

(y/n) had visualized it multiple times. If he had counted, which he hadn't done, that would probably be his most common illusion. That stupid smile, looking at him, for even once.

No, no, (y/n) couldn't be mad. He was chatting with Mr. Pale, Kai was chatting with Skylor. Nothing wrong with that. ...But they were so obviously flirting that it stung.

(y/n) wouldn't admit it. It was hardly a secret either. (y/n) couldn't keep other people's secrets nor his own, everyone except for the Master of Fire himself knew (y/n) liked him! And with a few more years of dropping obvious hints, Kai was sure to catch on sooner or later.

Skylor noticed something on Kai's shoulder and patted it off. Kai was blushing.

(y/n) had done that as well, so why was Kai reacting like that? What made him any different from her.

Kai tried to reach out to Skylor when she wasn't looking and casually drape his arm over her shoulder, the same thing he used to do with (y/n) no less, but pulled back and disguised it as just scratching his neck at the last second.

(y/n) was angry, but at the same time, relieved.

Kai probably gave Skylor a backhanded compliment, because for a moment she looked just like (y/n) when Kai suddenly gave him those.

Things like... 'You're stronger than you think', 'I want you here', 'it wouldn't be the same without you'. They were no love confessions, but (y/n) couldn't help but hope they might be leading that way. 'you might not matter to everyone, but you matter to us. You matter to me'... Was it all casual?!

Kai was leaning against the feast table 'coolly', but he ended up accidentally knocking over a bowl of fortune cookies. This made his scramble awkwardly like crazy, but the scene brought a tiny laugh from Skylor's lips, and that made Kai's widen as if he had melted.

Suddenly the lanterns grew dim, and the neon signs crackled out, and whatever other illusions (y/n) had accidentally created faded from sight.

Only a spotlight stayed on Kai, and yes, I still mean it literally. Skylor was the one who pointed it out, motioning from Kai's feet all the way to the ceiling.

Kai too looked up or down, before his face changed to one of realization. He looked around before finally spotting (y/n) and pointing over to him, saying something to Skylor at the same time. Then, the red ninja waved to him.

(y/n) didn't wave back, and instead pointed up, motioning 'look up''. Kai understood and did just that. But instead of a spotlight, the illusion had changed to a storm cloud. And with a swift move from (y/n)'s hand, a lightning strike shot at Kai. Not only was it loud, but it also shook Kai out of his skin.

Of course, it wasn't real, but Kai still turned to (y/n) with a face of a drenched puppy, as if asking 'why?''

(y/n) wasn't going to answer as he stood up from the sofa. He offered Mr. Pale a few parting words while thrusting his glass into the hands of one of the kabuki, before storming out.

He didn't bother going to his room or even staying inside for that matter, instead he rushed out to get some fresh air to calm his head.

But even the air couldn't save him, when the door behind him burst open.

Kai was out of breath and he looked pissed. But compared to the anger on (y/n)'s face, he was just an annoyed chipmunk.

"Go back, Kai," (y/n) snapped, turning on his heel so fast that Kai almost ran into him. "I left because I want to be alone, is that not obvious?"

Kai threw his hands up. "I just wanna talk-"

"Oh, now you wanna talk?" (y/n) let out a sharp, humorless laugh. "Funny, because I don't remember you talking to me like that back there. No, you were too busy staring at her like she hung the damn moon."

Kai’s expression twisted, confusion flashing across his face. "Wait... is this about Skylor?"

"Ding ding ding, give the man a prize," (y/n) said mockingly, turning around and stomp away. But before he could take more than two steps, Kai grabbed him, gripping his arms tightly.

"(Y/n), will you just-" Kai tried to get a few words out, but was cut off.

"Let go of me!" (y/n) snapped again, struggling against Kai's grip. He could've easily broken free if he wanted to, the two were on the same level of strength. But (y/n) didn't have the energy. He shoved at Kai's chest, trying to break free, but Kai held firm.

(y/n) was the most dramatic person the team knew, but they never called him over the top or dramatic. An attention seeker, yes, but nothing more. (y/n) was sure he was trying to bend the line of understanding on Kai's part. He wondered when the 'you're acting like a kid!' would fall out of his mouth.

"Just listen to me-" Kai tried to sound patient. Unfortunately, Kai and 'patient' could never fit together.

"I don't wanna listen! I don't wanna hear whatever you have to say!" (y/n) spat, his voice rising with every word. "Because it will never compare to what you say to her!"

Kai's grip faltered for half a second, but (y/n) was too far gone to stop now.

"You don't see me," (y/n) repeated, his voice shaking. "You don't hear me... You are such an idiot!"

Kai's lips parted, like he wanted to argue, but (y/n) cut him off before he could.

"You're basically blind!" (y/n) slammed his fists against Kai's chest, his anger boiling over. "I hate you and your stupid face! I hate your stubborn attitude! I hate that you act cool all the time, and I hate that you're actually cool when you don't try!" His voice cracked, but he didn't stop. His fists pounded against Kai's chest with every word. "And I hate that I like it all!"

Silence.

(y/n) froze, his breath coming out in sharp, ragged pants. His hands trembled where they rested against Kai's chest, but he didn't have the strength to pull away.

Kai stared at him, stunned. His arms, which had been holding (y/n) in place, slowly dropped to his sides.

The realization hit him all at once. Like a punch to the gut.

(y/n) turned his head away, squeezing his eyes shut. His whole body felt like it was burning, a painful heat curling in his chest.

"Let me go, Kai," he muttered. This time, Kai did, staring as (y/n) stepped away from him.

Though (y/n) had gotten a bit emotional, he suddenly felt better. Like a weight had been lifted off his chest. He was still angry as hell, but looking Kai in the eyes wasn't a dreadful thought anymore.

Kai was definitely still processing things as he spoke up. "I- Just- Give me some time to think-" Kai tried to say something, but (y/n) cut him off again.

"Think? What is there to think about?" (y/n) scoffed.

"All of this! I never knew, it's surprising..." Kai scratched the back of his neck. He didn't look that surprised, more like... happy.

Of course, someone admitted they liked him! Kai and his huge ego,(y/n) thought.

"NO SHIT!!" (y/n) shouted and turned around, rolling his eyes.

"Hey- wait!" Kai tried to reach out, but (y/n) had taken off speed-walking away.

"Nope! You heard what I said, now get back to your red-head girlfriend!" (y/n) covered his ears, shouting as he picked up the pace.

"Come on, she isn't-" "LAA LAA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!"

honestly, after getting over the excitement of Yue and Xiaotian getting together, I can see why poor dude was so stressed out and upset to the point of chugging his drinks

Not only did Yue get captured temporarily by Peng, she was almost possessed and then had a murder attempt right afterwards. Then his poor phobia was activated in the worst way. All that, *and* he was already struggling with the guilt of what he wrote for Yue’s backstory.

He needed that sweet moment with Yue fr, now he can look forward to all the adorable domestic moments in his future

Xiaotian had a reasonable crashout. Unlike Yue, he’s not used to be pelted with one traumatizing thing after another. Also, while he’s an habitual avoider when it comes to his problems (especially when he feels responsible for said problem), he’s not so great with repressing his trauma. He actually has a healthier way of processing it compared to Yue, who just puts it aside in a box to explode in her face later.

(Also? Imagine seeing the character who was specifically created to look and somewhat act like your dead best friend/crush turn into your worst fear. That’s a literal nightmare right there.)

Xiaotian is a sucker for romantic, sappy stuff. He dreams about being the perfect househusband for Yue (while also doing some kickass battles from time to time so maybe being her warrior too). He’s really excited about all the future domestic moments he’ll be sharing with Yue.

Overall, Agatha All Along was a nice watch.

I struggled to connect with a couple of the characters due to some of the writing, including William/Billy which made things a tad difficult as he was so central to the plot and reveal tbh, but oh well. The cast were ALL great in their roles though.

Overall -- I dug the show.

Felt at first like there was a lot more emotional depth to mine from and they only sort of scratched the surface in exchange for an easy to digest 'fun' tale for the casual Marvel viewer for most of the show, but they really got deep with it in the last three eps, to my surprise and enjoyment.

Sooo yeah, Agatha really is a tragic figure and sympathetic "villain".

If I'm remembering her backstory correctly (sorry, been a bit distracted with a lot of work and life stuff while watching this show and am trying to remember the specifics set up in WandaVision) -- her awful mother basically created a self-fulfilling prophecy, ffs.

Believing Agatha was incapable of good (we've seen otherwise) and thinking she had to DIE for the supposed betrayal of her coven by practicing dark magic.. it simply set in motion BY her mother. The series of events that pushed Agatha to go dark and fight back in order to survive after her own mother ignored her desperate pleas to spare her as she burned alive...

Everything Agatha did after that, while yes it was her own choosing at the end of the day, was ultimately the result of that trauma and hate for fellow witches. The ironic price she had to pay for seeking to take as much power as possible after hers was threatened by her own mother and fellow witches -- was her own child. So basically, she was harmed -- and she harmed back. Not okay, but empathy makes you try to at last understand why she did what she did and feel bad for what she went through, even if it's not an excuse for her actions. But either way, had to suffer for it. It's sorta like someone sucker punches you, so you knock 'em out cold, and then YOU go to jail. Sigh.

Also, it's petty tragic that the only genuine love she's ever known was Rio (death herself). And it seems they produced a child together (?) whom she then tragically lost. It's just irony and tragedy wrapped in irony and tragedy. Sad shit.

Anyway, I'm glad to see "Agathario" was full canon, however tragic (for now) their "ending" was. Hopeful for further exploration of them in the future. But for now, for Marvel/Disney of all companies to be the one to allow a LEAD sapphic ship with a complicated history and dark dynamics to be a canon thing? Surprising, and kudos.

So, I watched Sonic 3 today.

I wish they would have continued on from the growth of Sonic calling Tom and Maddie his parents from the end of Sonic 2. Also in that vein, I want Knuckles to call Sonic and Tails by their names at least even if he's not at the point of calling Tom and Maddie his parents, too (he did at least call Maddie by her name in the Blu-Ray Drone Home short, so calling her by Sonic's nickname in this movie was a step back)

Continuity error spotted: at the end of Sonic 1, they moved Sonic's stuff from his cave to his new room in the attic, so the cave should have been empty or they should have mentioned offhandedly that they had to leave some stuff behind because it wouldn't fit or it was too damaged or something

It's been a few YEARS since Sonic was discovered (per Ivo's comment about trying to get him for years + Tom and Maddie talking about the busy past few years)??! I knew at the beginning of Sonic 2 Ivo had said it'd been 243 days in "portobello purgatory," but, wow, it's been a while between 1 and 3. That explains why they're all so close to Tom and Maddie's heights at the end of the movie's group camping shot....they're growing up. :') Though it also begs the question how old they are now--Sonic couldn't have been any younger than 4 years old to remember Longclaw/10 years passed since she died and the events of Sonic 1 happened, so that would mean he's 16 now since it's plural years??? I guess older ages than what they are in the games would suit them...or at least Knuckles with his 40-year-old-man voice

Sonic 3 takes place in 2024: confirmed

In Sonic 2, Tom and Maddie were worried about Sonic tackling stuff on his own because he was a kid and needed to grow up more--did that change because a few years have passed, or because he has his own "team" now? I know there was a timeskip between Sonic 2 and 3 (and Walters acknowledged at the end of Sonic 2 that Sonic was on their side), but I feel like G.U.N. having Team Sonic on call was a surprise--it wasn't even mentioned in the Knuckles series or anything.

At the end of Sonic 1, Maddie mentioned to Sonic that he had to go to bed early because it was a school night. Does Sonic 3 take place during summer vacation (since the weather is nice enough for camping)? I want to see these kids in school, dangit!

I don't like how Tom and Maddie act together in this movie. Tom says through his puppet that he should leave her...Tom makes eyes at the projection of the military lady...Maddie sucker punches Tom in response and he looks very much in pain... Not a healthy dynamic anymore :(

Why is Gerald alive. He is 110 years old and still moving and grooving like nothing?

So....SCU!Shadow just....straight-up wants revenge on all of humanity? Without any amnesia making him more malleable to committing planet-wide genocide?? They were torturing him with dreams of Maria's death for 50 years straight??????? He and Gerald were totally fine with ultimately being caught in the explosion, too?????????????????? How is this movie still PG

Shadow's change of heart did not feel appropriate. After 50 years of torture and being fine with the idea of nuking the planet, a single flashback would not change his mind. At least in Sonic 2, we see Knuckles gradually realizing Robotnik isn't that great of a person and how Sonic's values are good--Knuckles also wasn't TRAPPED IN A MIND PRISON FOR FIFTY YEARS STRAIGHT.

SCU!Shadow was discovered instead of created, so doesn't that make him not the "ultimate lifeform" anymore since he doesn't have a purpose? Maria isn't even sick in this version (which I think hampered any reasoning for her being at the base, especially in such top-secret areas). I guess the Biolizard doesn't exist, either? At least completely flipping his backstory to make him on Earth wanting to see the stars instead of the reverse makes sense. They didn't even explain his inhibitor rings, but he still took them off for a power boost at the end... Do the Black Arms exist???? Does The End or the Ancients???? Why DOES he look like Sonic if he wasn't modelled off his prophecy mural?

Why is SCU!Knuckles scared of ghosts if, per the Knuckles series, he regularly sees the ghost of his dead tribe leader?

Knuckles was BEST. BOY. in this movie!!!!!!!!!! Every scene he was in was perfect!!!!!!!! He knows about Pokémon! His "Don't do this!" was so wrenching, good lord. TT-TT Then he stands down?!! Then he SAVES SONIC AND TAILS FROM BEING BURNED UP IN THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE?!!!

Why did they leave Knuckles behind in the ark when it was actively going to explode??? He gave his last ring to Tails, so what was the plan for him??? Also, why didn't Knuckles bring Ivo with him when he leapt out? Could he not find him in time, did he think it was fine to leave him to die since he was their enemy, or did he not think of it?

Is Eggman really dead in the SCU now? I don't see how that would stick, but also how would he survive? Shadow surviving is more reasonable since he was in Super mode at the time of the explosion, and fits with the reveal of him having actually survived in his game

I just realized Tails is the only one in the SCU so far without a tragic backstory. Like, from Sonic 2, he kept his original backstory of just being made fun of for his tails, which is nowhere near the level of "my adoptive mom got killed in tribal warfare/my entire tribe was massacred in tribal warfare/my adoptive sister was gunned down by the government." We haven't even had any flashbacks for Tails...very strange

I know they probably amped up the wacky humor aspects for this movie to offset the body count (Maria, Commander Walters, Gerald, Ivo, Shadow-ish), but it really fell flat for me (the one-liners were still pretty good, but the comedy scenes were always too much). I rewatched Sonic 1 & 2 yesterday to prep for 3, and I was laughing throughout both of them. They could have leaned more into the seriousness of the content like the masterpiece that was Kung Fu Panda 2

The SCU is now facing the Steven Universe Problem: the stakes are too high for regular shenanigans. Sonic 2 was perfect because everything was still personal and surrounding the ultimate plotline of Sonic integrating into familial life on Earth, but now things are too big. We already had Maddie and Tom abandoned at the beginning of the movie, and they felt forced into the plot compared to the smooth fusion of the A and B plot of the Sonic 2 wedding (the location of the Master Emerald even happened to be within visible distance of the wedding site) and left almost immediately after Tom got wrecked (also, why did Tom have a broken arm instead of broken ribs or something after getting socked square in the trunk by Shadow?). I really hope they have more family stuff going on in Sonic 4, otherwise they're going to make Tom and Maddie feel completely irrelevant

I knew the Knuckles series was canon, but it still pained me extremely to see Wade being appointed the guardian of the Master Emerald because I hate him

Minor nitpick: Tom should have mentioned his brothers in Sonic 2 when he was saying he wanted Sonic to have a team/wingmen. The reveal that he has brothers seems out of left field since we're three movies in and we just found that out

AMY CONFIRMED! How is Metal Sonic a thing if Ivo is dead, though? Why did they not just have her be the catalyst for Shadow remembering his real promise to Maria like she was originally? They introduced both Tails and Knuckles in Sonic 2, so why did they save her for Sonic 4 and make Shadow's backstory so weird instead?

Keanu Reaves did a much better job with Shadow's voice than the current, sneering Batman wannabe one from the games

Overall, the movie felt a bit disjointed, fell back into Sonic 1's trap of telling instead of showing (particularly the heart-to-hearts), and left me with more questions than answers. 7/10 on my first watch (Sonic 1 = 8/10 told instead of showed and had some bad acting from the humans; Sonic 2 = 9/10 hilarious, but needed more Knuckles and the pivonka scene dragged a bit; Knuckles series = 3/10 desperately needed more Knuckles)

I only went through some of your well-put posts so far. But it's very refreshing to see a fellow fan of Vi and Jinx's sisterly relationship who isn't into 'Jinx is a silly chaotic poor gremlin who absolutely did NOTHING WRONG!!!! She's totally excused because she's sick!!', or 'Vi wasn't a good sister for Jinx, she contributed into creating Jinx as a monster who she is now!! Silco was a better family for her because he fully accepted her unlike Vi'.

Also now that season 2 trailers have come out and even though we don't have a full context yet, 'fuck Jinx, she doesn't deserve Vi's love and Vi's gonna choose Caitlyn over her. Hope she dies!!'. Like, there's nothing in between 😭

Feels like Vi & Jinx fans like me can't catch a break these days. So, thanks for your sisters-supporting blog and posts. Hopefully we get some wholesome moments of them this season despite possibly upcoming heartbreaking scenes. Hope this ask isn't so random, haha.

Okay first of all, I am so sorry LOL I haven’t really been active lately and I also haven’t checked my asks in forever so that’s my bad—sorry, anon 😭

Also, I am so glad someone feels the same way I do!

I honestly feel like nuances, moral grey area, pragmatism, and media literacy is ignored in this fandom? I was a little disappointed because this show is about ALL those things and yet the fans ignore that no character is completely amoral or moral. And quite honestly, even human beings aren’t like that. The whole reason this show is so interesting is because it gathers a well-rounded perspective into how politics, impoverishment, and circumstances can create different kinds of people; trauma can propel people into action or inaction.

I was really hoping the community would be a little more realistic and fair towards both sisters but I was super bummed to see the fanatic Jinx fans that completely disregard her murders, crimes, and bloodshed which often accompanies a violent hatred of Vi. And although it is a FAR smaller majority, diehard Vi fans don’t seem to like Jinx either. But in reality, it’s the absolute tragedy of their relationship which is the most interesting facet of the show in my opinion.

I have also mentioned this in earlier posts too, but I have a lot of romance fatigue in media as well so I think maybe that’s why I am so locked in and invested in this sisterly bond. I am such a sucker for familial backstories so the Vi-Jinx/Powder story is my bread and butter.

Anyway, sorry, I’ve rambled a lot but I really appreciate this input and I’m glad my nonsense musings have resonated with someone!

Cedric for ask game- 1, 12, 14, 25

1. Why do you like this character? Okay. So, ever since I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, I have been a sucker for a well written redemption arc. However, if I were to get into specifics, I think there's a lot to explore in this character from a literary perspective. He's complicated. Very complicated. His motivations make a lot of sense even if he goes about things in ways that aren't objectively moral. Which, honestly? That is stuff you don't see in children's TV much since Gargoyles or other things from the 90s and early 2000s. He has the backstory and personality of a Shakespearean tragic hero. He reminds me of like if you shoved Macbeth and Hamlet in a blender in the best way possible, and then, somehow, came out with Macduff? IDK how that works, but that's what happened. Secondly, I find him relatable to my literal life. Zuko hit me when I was just a little younger than Zuko's age. I saw Sofia the First, for the first time in earnest, as I approach 30. I am, exactly, the right age to relate to Cedric's personal issues. So, I like him because a lot of the stuff he deals with is the stuff I'm processing in my own life. Aging parents. Trying to repair a difficult relationship with my own dad as we both grow older. Realizing I might not be able to fix everything that's missing there, and trying to walk the line between indifference and cynicism. Check. Trying to form a solid relationship with a/my child and teach them things. (Granted my squish is biological, but still. Check.) Trying to look past my own personal failings to create a better world for my kid and future generations. Check. Trying to look past what people say/ have said about me and others like me to see the intrinsic good in myself despite my nuanced set of identities. Check. Realizing that my kid just existing in my life is what gives me hope to see myself as great. And, maybe, just maybe, that's a lesson I can teach my kid without them having to go through all the crap I've gone through to learn it: we are great because, unmasked, in our fullness, together with others, we are greater than in isolation. So, I like him because it's easy to walk his journey and see some elements of my own life and where I'm at personally. And, you know what? The show does a nice job presenting this struggle. I feel less alone in my own crap when I watch it. I've got a buddy to walk in my adult problems with while my kiddo gets a princess to learn how to be a good person alongside. I LOVE that. It's truly something we both get something out of, which, is, like, SO supremely rare. As a parent, I just cannot express how much I care about that. Bluey might be the only other program I can think of that does "both" as well as Sofia does. Like, I don't know if there are any other fans in this fandom who are parents. But, man ... Cedric hits because *all* of the life stuff he's dealing with is stuff that, like, is so real. Especially the stuff with his parents. Oof. I don't know if any of y'all have had parents age. The Lov deserved better endings

I personally think the leauge of villains deserved better arcs in general because realistically if we tried to redeem them with how the war arc played out how would society react? Also how would the leauge themselves react? It's all complicated jumbo and in the end ITS HORI WHO WROTE THEM THAT WAY

like yes they could of been redeemed if hori wrote them to be saved but he didnt. Iam still incredibly pissed at how underdeveloped shigaraki is and his whole goal of being to destroy and not actually developing into "I want to destroy the HPSC/the corrupt society that has caused me and the leauge pain" still pisses me off.

Look I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don't mind someone from the leauge not being able to get saved and dies (but at least make the death well written hori come on man). Personally Iam a sucker for toga dying simply because of the way I have come to associate her character with red spider lilies, blood, cannibalism and pomegranates. Also it just adds to the tragedy of her character which is something I love when it comes to her writing.

On the other hand while I do think depending on the characters arc and actions some (and I mean also hero characters) should face concequences for some of their actions or attone for them. I think that twice, spinner and mustard were pretty redeemable characters.

Shigaraki and Dabi should of been written to be much more complex overall (well this mainly applies to shigaraki, Dabi just got his backstory retconned to make enji look good) and have hints of a redemption or something that still says they have good in them. Like Iam still pissed that we didn't get much of Shigaraki consistency in general and when it comes to Dabi I would of enjoyed hori to give us Dabi in all of his complexity and I mean all of it.

Iam mainly pissed at Dabis ending because why I mean why would you revoke all of his autonomy and agency and leave him stuck all alone, slowly dying and being stuck with his abuser that wants to dance in hell with him but enji doesn't even understand what Dabi has been through in total.

I would of enjoyed more of spinner and shoji's dynamic and I honestly wanted more of spinner in general but dam hori did done and went and ruined him. Like I wanted to see spinner, wanted to see more of the discrimination plot line, wanted to see more of his thoughts on stain and how he would develop out of it/create his own thoughts of what a true hero is. I wanted more development when it came to him and shigaraki because all of it felt out of place in a way. Idk just wasted potential when it came to him.

Don't get me started about kurogiri Iam still sad about his death (it was cruel to just have him die that was just cruel there was so much potential with kurogiri that never got done right)

Honestly would of loved to know more about magne but I would of wanted her to die either way.

I think we should of gotten more of compress and his whole robin hood style. It's a shame I really wanted to see him do stuff like steal from the rich and give to the poor or simply give him more development then him being just there.

My backstory is not as intriguing as half of the people here it's so cringy but like idk

My parents weren't exactly common folk in this case my mother was a pro-hero called storm (yes same powers but not that storm) and my dad was out of the picture. From an early age, I exhibited an affinity for the sun and moon.

As a child, my quirk manifested unexpectedly. One sunny afternoon, while I was playing in the backyard, I reached out to touch a sunflower.And to my surprise, the flower caught on fire. My mother and my grandma who were both there there at the time were both amazed and concerned.
