So haben eure Mütter vor 40 Jahren ausgesehen

Meine Schwester sucht einen alten Laptop heraus, den es nur noch in ihrem Haushalt gibt, weil er ein DVD Laufwerk hat. Sie startet ihn um uns eine DVD zu zeigen. Es ist eine DVD von einer VHS, die vermutlich in den 90er Jahren entstanden ist. Auf ihr sind Super8 Filme aus den späten 70ern und frühen 80ern, die unser Vater von uns als Kindern gemacht hat. Ich glaube er hat die Filme in den 90ern irgendwohin geschickt und dann als VHS zurückbekommen, aber es ist zu lange her, um das richtig zu rekonstruieren. Und meine Schwester hat die VHS Kassette einem Arbeitskollegen gegeben, der einen Adapter hat und sie auf DVD gebrannt hat.

Die Filme haben einen ganz fürchterlichen Soundtrack mit so Gedudel, dass wir zuerst denken, sie spielt einen Softporno ab. Der Soundtrack kommt von der VHS Konversion. Leider ist auf den Videos kein Technikcontent, nur furchtbare Frisuren und Schnurrbärte und Kinder im Schnee und am Strand und Wuffi, der Hund meiner Großeltern.

Die Kinder, meine Nichten und Neffen, sind relativ unbeeindruckt vom Inhalt und finden es langweilig. Die Erwachsenen rätseln, wo welche Aufnahmen gemacht wurden, und rekonstruieren anhand der Kinderanzahl, in welchem Jahr das jeweilige Video entstanden ist.

the american northeast is entirely underrated for its beauty online. I wish it would be acknowledged. its always "southern gothic" and Appalachia aesthetic, and as someone who has family there I totally get it, those ancient mountains are beautifully terrifying. But they continue further north than their distinctive accent. But Maine is haunted too.

I love getting an idea for an original story and immediately thinking of three existing movies that did something just like it.

The good news: it's called a genre. The reason the same themes/similar premise has been done before is because it's fun and people like it. I watched all three movies at one time or another in my life, and didnt think "this 2nd movie is worthless because 1st movie exists". I was happy to have 2 cakes of the same kind but different flavors.

The bad news: the anxiety monster is chasing me and its trying to kill my joy
