Sighs dreamily . Shedletsky love language being touch. [Headcanon]
I can just imagine this guy picking you up randomly and putting you on his shoulders like nothing... like his build would probably have you fooled into thinking he's not actually that strong but he is actually jacked, ripped, etc.
absolutely adores whenever you come to him for protection and is also #1 meatshield whenever you're too injured. If you have the capability to heal him in some way, he always makes a stupid joke about how you just like to patch him up [you do. you 100% do]. Number one guard dog up there with Guest tbh.
If you bury your face into his chest while cuddling he absolutely fucking melts. Bro is used to love and attention but the second it's from you it's like he's never been loved in his entire life.

Y/n-Odette and Steve had known each other since she was a baby. Upon Steve meeting her when she was born, their parents had been planning Steve’s marriage to Y/n-Odette. Over the years as the two grew, they despised each other, causing their parents to worry which they would then be forced to be together every summer.
You had been dreading today. You wished to stay home but your father would not allow it. You sat in the carriage, staring out at the scenery, hoping you could distract your mind from having to see Steve again.
Steve squirmed impatiently, thinking of anything that wasn’t you. A stupid, silly girl. Steve groaned quietly as he went to meet you in the ballroom until he stopped, his heart began to thump. Your smile made him feel weak in the knees. You had the same face, hair and eyes as Y/n-Odette but seemed to be someone quite different.
“Hello, Steve.” You speak, smiling softly.
Steve couldn’t speak, he wondered if you were the same girl he had grown up with. He returned your smile, holding out his arm for you to take. He felt his heart skip as you accepted, taking his arm and together you walked onto the dance floor as the music began to play. Steve felt so happy, like he was dancing on air.
After that night, you and Steve had spent the rest of the summer together. Steve dreamed of you, he awoke each morning eager to see you. When he was with you he felt overjoyed, but he was also tongue-tied and could not tell you how he felt. Steve couldn’t imagine living without you, it was almost like an obsession had begun to grow within him.
The summer had come to an end and it was your time to leave. You and Steve decided to dance all night at the royal ball, love burned so bright that the whole ballroom could practically feel it. You smiled up at the handsome prince but inside you could feel a tug of sadness. You couldn’t bear to leave him, he had given you so much love over the summer but he had never declared it. You hoped he would finally tell you how he felt tonight.
As the music came to a stop, so did you and Steve. You both shared a long glance, waiting, searching, hoping.
Steve suddenly turned to the guests with a giant grin. “Arrange the wedding!”
The noise around you suddenly stopped, everyone was speechless.
“Wait!” You called out.
“What is it?” Steve pleaded, “You’re all I ever wanted. You’re beautiful!”
“Thank you,” You replied, “But… What else?” You knew deep down in your soul that Steve loved you as much as you loved him, so surely he wanted you more than your beauty? You just needed him to say it.
Steve stared blankly, he really had no clue. “What else?”
Your heart dropped. “Is beauty all that matters to you?” You asked, your father and his mother stood dumbfounded, they were so close.
Steve swallowed hard. “I… Er… What else is there?” He asked.
Your heart sank even further. You had been wrong, Steve did not love you at all. You turned and swiftly exited the ballroom, taking the hopes of two kingdoms with you.
You and Steve barely said goodbye as you left. He watched as you departed with shock and bitter disappointment.
Steve sits as Lord Rogers paces the royal sitting room. “What else is there?” He mockingly spoke. “She says, ‘Is beauty all that matters?’ and you say, “What else is there?!”
“It was dumb, I know.” Steve replies, hanging his head as he tries to think.
The weather outside was not helping his mood. It seemed to match the sadness he felt deep within.
“You should write a book.” Rogers continued. “How to Offend Women in Five Syllables or Less.” Rogers leans forward, flicking Steve’s forehead. “Think!” He urged. “You must see something other than Y/n-Odette’s beauty!”
“Of course I do, Rogers!” Steve begins to stumble as he thinks. “She’s… Well, you know. And then, well… Er…”
Lord Rogers rolled his eyes.
“Oh, I just don’t know how to say it!” Steve finally blurted out, and then he added. “I know, I’ll prove it to her. I’ll prove my love!” He nods to himself before muttering. “I’ll make her mine. I’ll make her see how I see her.” Steve stands, swiftly exiting the room as he begins to form a plan.
Meanwhile inside the carriage, your father shakes his head sadly. “I just don’t understand.” He looks at you, watching as you continue to look out and into the forest. “What else did you want him to say?”
You bite your bottom lip softly before letting it go as you turn to look at your father. “I just need to know that he loves me.”
Suddenly the horses whined and bucked, causing the carriage to stop. “What on Earth–?” King William, your father turned the door handle and stepped out. Beyond the horses, a large man was blocking their path. Although the man stood in the shadows, King William recognised him instantly. He had watched him grow from a small child but he could feel something was off and with one look at you, he orders. “Stay inside, Y/n-Odette.” He closes the door and takes a step forward, his guards moved to encircle him, spears drawn.
“Steve, what are you doing out here so late? How did you get here?” The King had never felt this kind of fear before, it was as though something had possessed the man before him. He looks around, brows furrowed as he sees no way for Steve to have gotten there without them noticing. “You must be cold, my boy. Why don’t you hop inside our carriage and we can take you back to your mother. I am sure she’s worried.”
Steve chuckles and the sound causes The King to stumble, it sounded so dark, so chilling. “I can’t have you do that, sir.”
The Kind and Steve’s mother had always wanted the two of you together but at this moment, he didn’t know this man. At this moment, King William would do anything to protect you. He could feel strong amounts of power radiating off of Steve, darkness he had never felt before. King William steps back towards the carriage, his guards moving forward slightly, protecting him and you.
Steve’s eyes sweep over them all, causing a shiver to run through their bodies. “Why are you scared?” Steve takes a small step forward, his foot sinking into the soil beneath him.
King William clears his throat, straightening his back. “We are not scared. Why don’t you come back with us? Then we can take you back in the morning.” His head whips around as he hears you scream, his eyes widen as he sees Steve’s best friend pulling you from the carriage.
Thumps can be heard and The King whips back around only for his eyes to widen as Steve stands toe-to-toe with him and his guards lay dead around them. “I said, I can’t have you do that, sir. I want Y/n-Odette and as long as she has you, she will never fully devote herself to me.” Steve towers over the short King, making him seem as tiny as an ant. “I may have screwed up this evening but she will be mine.”
“S–Ste–” King William is cut off by Steve’s hand gripping his throat, his eyes bulged and skin begins to turn purple.
Everything had turned black after you were pulled from the carriage, unaware of what had happened with your father. You woke up surrounded by water but you felt weird causing you to look down, shock and fear shoot through you as you see white. You were no longer in your body, instead of a human body it had been replaced with that of a swans.
“Y/n–Odette.” Hope ran through you as you heard Steve’s voice, your eyes darting around until they landed on his large figure. “You’re finally awake, my little swan.” That hope that had built inside of you had come crashing down once you realised that he wasn’t there to save you. Your body moves, gliding across the water, distancing yourself away from the man you thought you had known. “Don’t let the small spell make you sad, Y/n–Odette. It doesn’t last the whole day, as soon as the moon comes up…”
Steve didn’t need to finish, creeping across the lake the moonlight touched your wing. Water began to swirl from below, your swan-like self rose upward in a shimmering golden-grey light, transforming you into your human form.
Steve grins. “That’s how it will be until you are mine, Little Swan.” He said as you landed gently on the shore. “You have to be on the lake, of course and when the moonlight touches your wings, you’re human!”
You turned away from him, betrayal blossoming within you. Your thoughts went to your father. “My father… Is he okay?”
“Define okay…”
You spun around, eyes wide and full of tears. “What did you do to him?!”
Steve merely shrugs. “I may have killed him.”
You gasp, reeling back as the tears begin to slowly fall. “Y–you…”
Steve moves closer, his hand reaching out to touch your cheek but you move your head. His brows furrow as anger seeps in but he shakes it off, allowing you this. “Killed him, yes. I had to, otherwise I couldn’t have you, Y/n-Odette.”
“You can’t have me now, Steve! You killed my father! You kidnapped me and trapped me at this lake forever!” Your eyes meet his, so many emotions swirl around behind them. “I could’ve gotten over you only liking me for my looks but this… This is too much. You’re not the man I thought you were. The man I grew to love…”
“Now, don’t speak like that, Y/n-Odette. Sooner or later you are going to cave into being mine. You’ll learn to love this version of me.” He grabs your chin, ignoring how you fight against his hold and places a gentle kiss on your forehead. “Don’t fight it, little swan. You’ll be mine soon.” And with those words, he leaves. Leaving you alone and broken, your body hits the ground as sobs break free, your pain filling the forest around you.
Days, weeks, maybe even months go by without you giving into Steve and his advances. No matter what he did, you remained silent and distant. You began to enjoy your swan form, using it as an excuse to escape your human problems.
On the other hand, Steve was slowly losing it. He began taking his anger out on everyone else, those who loved and admired him, now feared him. His mother thought that it had something to do with your disappearance and your father’s death. Only if she knew the truth would she hate the man her son became.
Steve grew impatient, he didn’t understand why you weren’t his already. Why did you have to be so stubborn? Did you not see how much he loved you? “What else do I have to do, Buck? She’s supposed to be mine.” He put his head in his hands. His best friend watched him from the doorway, arms crossed.
“I don’t think you’re being rough enough. You’re being too sweet on her, Steve. A woman like her needs rough handling, someone to dominate her.” Bucky pushes off of the wall and moves closer to his friend. “You need to stop playing Mr. Nice guy.”
Steve nods, standing and patting Buck’s shoulder with a smile. “You’re right, Buck.” His smile slowly turns into a smirk. “I guess it’s time to go get my girl.” And with that, he walks out of the castle and into the woods.
Steve reached his destination the moment moonlight shone on the lake, watching golden-grey swirls appear as your form changes from swan to human. He grins, sauntering straight towards you. “Little swan. As beautiful as ever.” He shakes off the strange feeling that appears when you brush off his words, already ignoring and moving away from him. Too bad Steve had already reached you before you could distance yourself further.
He pulls you closer to him, gripping your chin roughly as he forces you to look him in the eyes. “I don’t appreciate this attitude, Y/n-Odette. You’re mine and I am going to make you see that whether you like it or not.” You shiver under his hold as he growls. Steve pulls you over to a tree and pushes you up against it, your dress bunching up against your hips as he lifts you, wrapping your legs around his waist.
Your pulse quickens and your eyes widen, you push against his shoulders with poor attempts. Deep down you wanted this, you just didn’t like the person he became. “N–no, no. Steve. You… You can’t do this. Please.”
Steve caresses your cheek, smiling almost too sweetly at you. “You don’t have to pretend anymore, Y/n-Odette. You’re mine. We’re meant to be together.” His hand moves, gripping your chin with his thumb. His eyes fall to your lips as your mouth opens slightly. “I’m going to make you my wife, my Queen, little swan. Then you will bear my children.”
You shake your head, ignoring how you throb at the thought. “I’m done waiting for you to give in, Y/n-Odette. You need to understand that you’re already mine.” Steve presses against you, feeling you throb against his clothed cock. “You feel that? That’s what you do to me, little swan.” A small whine slips through your lips. “Just give in. Let me make you feel good.” You gasp as he pulls you into a kiss, all thoughts leaving your mind as his lips begin to move, pulling you deeper into his hold. Steve nips your bottom lip, sliding his tongue inside as a moan escapes your mouth.
You barely notice as he frees himself, sliding his hardened cock between your lips. Your grip tightens on his shoulders, pulling away slightly. “S–Steve…”
His hand moves, caressing your cheek. “Shh, little swan. It’s okay.” Your mouth drops and eyes roll back as he slides into you, filling you to the brim with one thrust. “That’s my good girl, feel so good for me.” Steve grunts, pressing you into the tree harder while he holds back from roughly fucking into you. You go limp in his arms, never having felt this amount of pleasure before, not even the times when you had touched yourself.
“O–oh… Steve…”
Steve smirked to himself, “Is that all you needed, little swan? My cock? If I had known all I had to do was fuck you to get you like this, I would’ve done it along time ago.” You want to argue back, huff and disagree with him but he was right, you couldn’t think when he was inside of you. His grip on you tightens before he suddenly begins to fuck you, slowly pulling out only to roughly thrust back in. Your moans trapped in your throat and your back arches, pressing close to his.
Steve grunts, his eyes locked on your face. He felt smug that the pleasure you were feeling was caused by him. He changes the angle of his hips, his cock sliding deeper inside of you, hitting spots you didn’t even know existed. Your hands grip Steve’s back, nails clawing into any skin you can find.
Steve’s hand moves up, his thumb swiping the necklace that lay around your neck. His hips not stopping as he stares deep into your eyes. “The moment I gave you this necklace, Y/n-Odette was the moment you became mine, there was no stopping this fate. You’re stuck with me, little swan.”
Your walls clench around him as he claims you. His thrusts pick up as he begins to pound into you, chasing his release. He grips your hips and neck, pulling you into a deep kiss. The moment his lips meet yours, it feels like your mind has become cloudy, unable to think about anything other than the feeling of him inside you. You didn’t know how someone’s lips had the power to wipe your mind clean of any thoughts.
Steve shoves a hand between your legs, his fingers finding your swollen clit and immediately pressing on it. Rolling it between his fingers before stroking it while his cock continues to hit deep inside. “Cum for me, little swan. Let me feel you milk my cock.” Steve groans, pressing closer to you as he whispers against your lips.
Your head falls back against the tree, feeling your cunt pulse and throb as Steve continues to rub your swollen clit and thrust against the sweet spot deep inside you. “Go on, little swan. Cum for me.” Your eyes cross as Steve buries himself deep inside of you, your toes curl as you squeeze him. You feel your orgasm ripple through you, your moans echoing throughout the forest.
“My good little swan.” He growls out as he fucks into you before his cum shoots out, painting your walls a pretty white. As Steve softens inside of you, he pulls back to look at your face and grins almost evilly, the back of his hand stroking your cheek. “You’re going to make such a pretty Queen, little swan.”
You would learn that you may think you know someone but everyone has a little bit of darkness lurking within and you just happened to be the target.

'That cannot work,' the young queen signed, frowning at her brothers. They were still human, but their quarter hour was almost up. Their movements were already beginning to become more bird-like and the colour of their hair getting closer and closer to raven feathers.
"Why not!" the boys cried in unison and their sister sternly put a finger to her lips.
They shut their mouths and she glanced into the cradle beside her. Her baby was still sleeping soundly, nothing amiss but the already fading mark on his little cheek where her mother-in-law had scratched him with her ring when she tried to steal him from the cradle. Not nearly as scratched as that dreaded woman had been herself after the ravens were done with her, though.
"Why not?" her youngest brother tried again, in a lower voice.k
'It is a curse,' she signed emphatically before resuming her work.
"Well, the curse didn't think you could learn to speak without making a sound," he argued. "So why couldn't it be tricked by detachable sleeves?"
His sister paused with her needle hovering above the many-petaled flower she was trying to stitch to the others. She bit her lip and shook her head.
"Why wouldn't it work!" her brothers urged her. "If you make the shirts so the sleeves can be taken off and put back on whenever we want, then surely we can decide to have wings whenever we want!"
They shifted restlessly from foot to foot, almost like the hopping of a bird and their sister glanced worriedly at the nearly night-dark sky outside the window.
"We want to be human again! But it would be so good to still be able to fly."
She looked at their eager, expectant faces and gave a doubtful nod. 'I will think about it.'
All three of them rushed her at once, hugging her or kissing her cheek, and then bowing quietly over the baby for a moment before rushing to the window. As the last, dim light of evening faded into night, so did their shapes shrink into three black ravens. They cawed their goodbyes and flew out of the window, leaving their sister to frown at her tiresome sewing.
It was not long before the door to the chamber opened and her husband appeared. His face was still pale, not yet recovered from the grief he felt over his mother's betrayal, but his eyes were as full of affection as ever.
"Had a good visit?" he asked quietly, looking fondly at his little son.
The young queen held out her hand and squeezed his for a moment before letting go to sign, with a great frown furrowing her brow:
'Do we have a royal wizard?'
The young king looked doubtful. "Yes, but he's never much use. I don't think he can actually do any magic. He just read a lot and goes on about the terms and conditions of blessings."
But to his surprise his wife's face lit up with approval and her pollen-stained fingers waved at him with renewed energy:
'Perfect!'
Shout out to @fishingforcrows who commented "Solution: detachable sleeves!!" on my Seven Swans inspired microfic.

Chapter One - Surprising
Tough Love Masterlist
“I don’t know, I just kind of let her do her thing. I love the girl but she’s kind of a lost cause.” You shrugged and Leah looked up to where Bella and Jake were chatting in the booth opposite them.
“You don’t think it’s weird? That she goes from screaming nightmares to as normal as she gets in a few weeks?” Leah asked and you could only shrug again.
You couldn’t lie and tell her you knew how Bella’s brain worked. Your sister was a mystery to you as much as your mother always had been. You supposed you had been lucky when Renee lost the fight against the temptation to leave and could only mentally cope with one child. The quiet one.
Not to say you had been in any way wild. You had just been older. Set in routine and able to voice your opinion. And your opinion was that your dad was your favorite. A fact Renee never liked.
So every summer you trekked to Arizona where Bella and Renee had ended up and spent two weeks with them only to trek back down with Bella so she could spend her time with Charlie.
It had never been a particularly enjoyable time for either of you. So when Bella packed up and moved to Forks you had already expected to have distance between you both. Adding Edward Cullen to the mix only made things worse.
You could never have expected Bella to shack up with Cullen, much less go batshit insane over him. You would never forgive your sister for the torment she was putting Charlie through every day she grieved a dumb high school fling.
So you escaped her. Escaped her zombified state in the damn chair in her bedroom. Leah had been your saving grace. Harry and Charlie had shoved you both together as kids and the bond had stuck, bringing you to their door whenever you couldn’t stomach looking at Bella.
Although heartbreak was still prominent in the Clearwater home, at least Leah had a reason to be so cut up. Sam and her had plans. They had been together for years. Not a matter of months like Bella and Edward.
You couldn’t help but wonder had you and Bella been raised together would you offer her the support you so readily gave to Leah. “I think she’s found a new boy to focus on.”
Leah tilted her head from side to side as she considered your answer. You didn’t really believe the idea yourself but it was strange, how completely Jacob had turned your sister’s mental breakdown into a memory.
“The kid must have game.” Leah said and you snorted in laughter, your milkshake dribbling pathetically down your chin. “You’re disgusting, you freak.”
“You’re the one thinking weird thoughts about a kid!” You argued and Leah only rolled her eyes. “Gonna have to warn my dad what you’re up to.”
“Shut up, haven’t you got work? Those tents ain’t gonna sell themselves.” She teased and you looked at your watch before sighing.
“Cause you ain’t got a boat to be fixing with your dad, little Ms Nepo Baby.” You scoffed, shoving your way out of the booth. “You think she even noticed I was here?”
“Ah, the nepotism of the boat rental business. A true life of luxury.” Leah knocked you with her elbow. “She hasn’t noticed you once her life. Why would she start today?”
Your smart reply for Leah died on your tongue when three tall shirtless men entered the diner, staring off to the side. Leah dropped her head, her long hair falling to cover her face.
You scoffed, side stepping Paul LaHote with a scowl. Less than a year ago Paul was a minor annoyance for Sam. Someone he had a rivalry with in high school. Now they were best friends and Sam had dropped Leah and picked up her cousin. It was enough to sour your good mood.
“Don’t.” Leah grabbed your wrist when you paused. She knew you wanted to give Sam another piece of your mind. She had stopped letting you when you almost ran him over at the beach a few weeks before.
You rolled your eyes before turning to glare at Sam one last time but Paul moved between you both, staring you down in challenge. You’d like to think you won when his jaw fell slack and he stumbled against the table.
“Fuck those guys.” You huffed once Leah had dragged you out the door. “Hope they catch a cold.”
“Damn killer, take it easy. Not a cold.” Leah laughed but it was strained. “Go to work. Earn enough money so I can quit my job and become a stay at home best friend.”
“Best friend? You’re not even in my top three.” Her laugh was less strained when you both parted ways and you blew her a kiss across the car lot, smiling when she pretended to bat it away.
“Can you watch my lane for a few?” You looked up from the schedule you had been trying to organize and blinked at Mike who was trying to look a lot more innocent than he was.
“A few? Like say, ten minutes?” You asked and he shrugged. “Or enough time for me to realize you’re skipping the last thirty minutes of your shift?”
“I’ll do a double next Friday to bail you out if you let me go now?” He offered and you sighed.
“Your name is above the door, kid. I don’t care if you cut or not. Ain’t like I can fire you.” You shrugged and locked your computer.
“Awh, don’t be like that. Dad would quicker fire me and adopt you if he thought Charlie wouldn’t notice. Best assistant manager he’s ever had apparently.” You laughed and shooed Mike out the door, heading for his lane which had conveniently cashed up and gotten ready to hand over.
Friday night wasn’t typically busy in the store. Not many people needed last minute hiking attire for the weekend and so you had time to finish up the schedule that had been bothering you and change the displays in the store windows before you were interrupted by a customer.
Not just a customer though, your sister.
“Everything okay?” You asked her warily. Talking to Bella in the last three months was almost like talking to a wall if the wall had the ability to start screaming at a pitch only dogs could hear.
“Just looking for some new boots.” She hummed and you nodded slowly, pointing her in the direction she needed.
You weren’t entirely sure why she’d need hiking boots. Bella and the outdoors weren’t exactly well acquainted.
And yet she reappeared with the boots and shelled out the cash for them with barely an extra word. To an outsider it would be impossible to tell you knew each other, never mind that you were sisters.
You watched her leave and huffed a sigh. You’d mention it to Charlie in passing. See if he knew why she suddenly wanted to hike with all the recent bear spottings in the woods.
Jared was laughing. His whole body shook with it, so much so that Paul could feel the vibrations from where he paced in Sam’s back garden. He’d been stuck as a wolf for almost an hour now because every time he calmed down Jared would piss him off again.
“The only person-“ a fit of laughter interrupted Jared trying to make his point. “The only one that hates us more than Leah and you imprint on her.”
Paul dove for Jared and once again Sam got between them. Paul growled at Sam, backing off once more. He was going to be stuck as a wolf forever at this rate.
Jared controlled himself enough to phase and all three of them padded into the woods.
So what are you gonna do?
Paul sighed at Jared’s question, dropping down to his belly and putting his paws over his eyes as if it would quell the urge to go and look for her.
You need Billy or Harry on your side. It’s your only hope.
Paul lifted his head and looked at Sam who was watching Paul carefully where he lay in the dirt.
Why them?
Charlie, Billy and Harry raised those girls together. You remember how attached Rachel, Rebecca and Leah were with her. Those men will know how to get you in her good books.
Paul considered Sam’s words and huffed a sigh when he realised he had no other choice. If he wanted to get to know you then something drastic had to change.
Harry laughed until he was bowed over and then told him to go away. Paul understood, things were less than amicable between the pack and Leah which in turn affected Harry’s ability to help when he didn’t feel he was needed.
It was still fucking annoying.
So Paul found himself sitting at Billy Black’s kitchen table and telling the whole story from start to finish. When he relayed the last detail he sat back and watched Billy process everything.
“You boys can never do anything the easy way.” Billy sighed and ran a hand over his face. “She might hate the wolves more than even Leah. She considers that girl her sister. And watching the hurt Leah suffered because of the imprint bond, well it changed things.”
“I will do anything Billy. Just to be able to have a five minute conversation with her. It’s been two weeks and I haven’t seen her.” Paul sighed, his exhaustion ringing out in every word he spoke.
“Well, we need to plan carefully-“
The front door opened after a short knock and Paul held his breath when your voice called out for Jacob and then Billy.
“Hey, old man. Where’s your kid?” You turned the corner and paused when you took in the scene in front of you. Paul could’ve cheered when you didn’t immediately glare at him.
“He and Bella went out early. I don’t know where. Why do you need him?” Billy didn’t acknowledge that Paul was in the room and he was grateful because it gave him a chance to just watch you, absorb all the details he had missed before.
“My car is doing that stupid thing again. The gear shift keeps getting jammed in reverse.” You sighed and Paul raised his eyes to the heavens above and thanked every spirit there was.
“I could have a look at that, if you need?” He offered quietly and you looked him over, blinking as if just remembering he was here.
“You?” Paul didn’t know if the disbelief was because he dared speak to you or because you doubted his ability.
“I uh, pick up a shift or two in the garage just off the Rez. If you can spare the afternoon I can bring it up now and fix it?” Paul wasn’t sure when he turned into this quiet, meek man. He hadn’t been unsure of himself in a long time.
“I’ve got work. This afternoon.” You explained and Paul shrugged.
“I’ll head up there with you? Take the truck back to the garage and have it back to you before your shift is over.” Paul tensed every muscle in his body and begged the spirits to keep his luck moving.
“Jake won’t be back until after dark. They’ve been doing this for days.” Billy encouraged and Paul could’ve kissed the old man. Instead he vowed to serve him for eternity.
“You’re sure you can fix it today?” You asked and Paul released a breath. “Cause I can just wait for Jake if it’ll take you too long.”
“Two hours, three at a push.” You considered his answer before glancing at the clock on the wall and back to Paul.
“Are you ready to go now, then? I’ve got work in forty minutes.” Paul jumped out of his chair and it clattered to the ground causing everyone to flinch.
“Sorry. Sorry.” He picked the chair up and smiled sheepishly at you. “I’m ready when you are.”

Thinking about ballet dancer Light.
Preteen Light choosing a sport and taking up ballet because he's always loved the grace, the power, and the emotion in the way the dancers move, because maybe this could be a momentary freedom for him, from the pointless competition that is his life.
Light being asked hundreds of times if he's sure, if he wants this, if this will distract him, if he can work hard enough to catch up to the other kids that have been doing this for years.
Light walking into a ballet class for the first time, one of the few boys, and leaving at the end ashamed at how clumsy he was in comparison.
Light working himself to the bone to catch up, for the first time determined to finish his homework as fast as he could because he found something he wants to really do, staying for hours at the little studio every day and leaving with screaming muscles and blisters on his feet.
Barely able to feel the pain in comparison to this burning passion he felt for the first time.
Quickly catching the attention of the teachers, they tell him if he keeps at it he will have a very promising future ahead of him.
He never tells Soichiro this might be more than just an extracurricular for university.
His first recital goes spectacularly, even though he was only a supporting role, he caught the eye of a recruiter from a prestigious ballet company who told his mother they would keep an eye on him, as his future was bound to be successful (his father was too busy to come.)
The drive home his silent, his face rubbed raw from removing the stage makeup in the bathroom before leaving, when Sachiko says she can talk with his father, if this is what he really wants to do.
Light smiles, saying he'll think about it more before they commit in the future.
The girls start learning on pointe, and Light is intrigued. His instructor says the boys can learn as well, and it would make them better dancers for it.
Light and one other boy agree.
It's an extra layer of work, the stiff shoes feel somehow too much and too little as he stands in a pair for his first fitting, alone as he hadn't told his parents.
But he feels a warm flutter in his chest when he sees himself in the mirror, on his toes like Odette in Swan Lake, his first ballet.
He takes to it even faster than when he'd started. Even when the basic lessons ended, he continued to dance on pointe in his own time. He learns the girls' lead choreography alongside the boys, who were mostly supports for the lead ballerina.
He adds his own twists on it, every movement he makes sharp yet graceful, makes it look effortless yet full of power.
His instructor is amazed, watches as he dances better than the girl who got the lead.
"It's such a shame," she says slightly regretfully, "if you were a girl, I think you would've had a real chance at being made a prima ballerina. That being said, at this rate, if you get picked up by a professional company, I'm sure you'd make premier danseur in no time." She laughs as she says it, a kind joke to highlight his incredible skills and potential, and Light laughs too.
When Light is fifteen, his school is putting on a production of Swan Lake.
And for a brief moment, his heart is over the moon, it has always been a dream of his to dance the ballet. It sinks immediately the next moment, when they call only for girls to audition for Odette and Odile.
He still puts his name in to audition for Prince Siegfried, he learns the choreography, but he can't stop himself from putting his pointe shoes back on and dancing Odettes parts when he is alone. Male point dancers were only used as a joke in classical ballet, he had no hope for the part, but for a while, he dreamed.
He danced Odette, and he danced Odile's Variation, twirled with more grace than a human should have, and he felt like he was flying.
It was after he'd perfected Prince Siegfried's parts to know, and danced Odette's death as his last run for the night, that as his fluttering wings stilled for the last time, he felt trapped again.
The audition was in a day. If he got the part, he was nearly guaranteed a spot in the nationally top company. And he would dance as a man was expected, and he would never dance on pointe on a stage.
He packed away his pointe shoes for the last time.
The next morning, the day before the auditions, he handed them his resignation from the school. He would never forget the despair on their faces when they looked into his eyes and saw that his passion had died. (He'd murdered it in cold blood.)
"Good." His father had said. "A healthy phase, but it was time to get serious about school. You made the right choice."
Light just smiled blankly. His mother pretended not to notice the tear stains on his face when she brought him some apples that night.
(It wasn't until midnight eyes, raven hair, and a chain that he danced again, twirling gleefully to hide the blood stains on his feathers as he showed the detective his old passion.)

IMAGINE AVENTURINE WHO... (cw: kakegurui au, obsessive gambling, life and death situation/predicament, aventurine's obsessed, unhealthy power dynamic/s between both sides, possessiveness, yandere behavior)
Tumblr media
... is well known in Penacony as one of the elite gamblers. AVENTURINE doesn't take a simple bet and runs with it, but makes it clear that if you ever play a game against him, he'll take it up to 10 notches.
... is called the 'compulsive gambler of Penacony', where students shiver at the mention of his name. Often, whoever gambles with him is met with a terrible end, citing that being near him is akin to a death wish with how possessed he acts.
... only desires a challenge. He dislikes gambling for the sake of money or power— he has enough and wants to spend it all until the day he dies. All he wants is the thrill, the one that would push him to the edge, constantly seeking for more.
... is an adrenaline junkie and makes those who goes against him rot in debt, becoming housepets in his journey of finding the one, but he had no luck. A shame, as he's a skilled gambler with many tricks and lady luck constantly gazing on his shoulder— until he met you.
... found you intriguing when you played a game of Craps, and although the stakes were rigged and against you, a newbie, you swept the floor with them and exposed them for their crimes. AVENTURINE found it more amusing when you stated, plain as day, "Those house pets of yours are going to need their lives back when they realize it's been rigged from day one."
... asked the other elites and even the president himself, SUNDAY, if he's ever heard of you. To his surprise, it was like no one has, and SUNDAY comments that AVENTURINE may be up to someone that doesn't exist anywhere. Not in the records, outside, or even the entirety of the country.
... began to become the regular of your regulars; who saw you in your games with others. He saw you win on them, exposing how they have seamlessly won those games despite it being against your favor, and turning it on their heads.
..., after studying your behavior and mannerisms, approached you for a little gamble. It isn't much, as all he wants is simply see what makes you tick.
... leads you into his office and you both take your seats, two sets of cards set in front of you. He even told you that the game you two will be playing is Blackjack— a staple of Penacony, he jokes, but you two know it's a lie.
... tells you that if you win, he'll let you in to the Elites and convince SUNDAY to stop pursuing your missing records. Everyone has been itching to get you to fall from grace, and he isn't letting them get their grimy hands onto your pretty face. Not if he has a say in it. However...
... tells you that if he wins, he'll have you as his personal housepet: a trophy to signify that you have fallen for a man that's feared by many.
... watches with a smile as the cards were taken from both sides, eagerly awaiting for the final verdict between you.
... knew it was only one round. Who knew he only has one chance to finally claim what is his.
... chuckles when he sees the results, his eyes gleaming with the sense of pride— to his loss or yours, no one shall ever know.

how did swan!reader and rafe meet?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🦢 ⊹ᡣ𐭩₊⋆ ─── swan!reader and rafe's first meeting
once again, rafe had somehow found himself roped into attending some business dinner party with his father and rose that he had no interest or care for. he had much better things to do on a saturday night than plastering on a charming, fake smile and standing around socializing with people twice his age, but this was a fact that didn't seem to matter to his father, who had told him that he was to be dressed sharply with his hair tamed by six o'clock on the dot.
reluctantly, he had obliged, dressing up in a white button-down and black dress pants before carefully styling his hair, so he would look every bit the respectable, young, future-businessman that his father expected him to be.
the ride to the party was filled with yes dad's and nodding in agreement to being on his best behavior as his father reminded him for the millionth time that he had a reputation to uphold, which meant his children were to be the epitome of perfect to ensure his spotless reputation stayed just that.
rafe had expected the dreadfully awful music and the awkward introductions and small talk with people he couldn't care less about. he expected the lack of booze strong enough to get him drunk enough that he could at least semi-enjoy the boring social affairs. he even expected the lingering glances from middle-aged women who had been dragged to this lifeless event by their equally lifeless husbands. what he hadn't expected, however, was you.
when he first laid his eyes on you, he had found himself wondering how he'd ever missed you in the first place. you were laughing courteously at a joke that a balding man, probably in his fifties or sixties, had appeared very proud of. your smile seemed to light up the entire room, breathing life into the party that had otherwise been soulless and unpleasant.
your poise and grace was evident simply by the way you carried yourself, smiling sincerely at everyone that met your eye while also keeping yourself engaged in the surely dull conversation you were having with the older man.
he found himself oddly drawn to you, captivated by not just your beauty but the way you seemed to shift the atmosphere in the room simply by existing. he knew he needed to speak to you, and more than that, he needed to have you. it took just feasting his eyes upon you for him to begin to crave the feel of your delicate skin under his rough hands and your earnest and warm eyes on his own.
before he could stop himself, his legs were moving in long, purposeful strides toward you, uncaring that interrupting your conversation would be considered rude and unbecoming.
"can i steal away a moment with the lady?" the words fell from his lips smoothly, a confident smile tugging at his lips as he observed your eyes shift to him and widen ever-so-slightly in surprise. his eyes trailed down the expanse of your neck, lingering on your pearls for a moment as he imagined littering your perfect skin with bright red hickies that would have you blushing and whining about what your poor parents would think if they saw.
"we were actually in the middle-" you began to object, but the man across from you swiftly cut you off.
"of course, mr. cameron," he nodded, recognizing rafe as ward's son. no one wanted to mess with the wealthiest and most powerful man in kildare, and that usually extended to his children.
a frown tugged at your lips as you watched the man scurry off to find someone else to bother. of course, you knew rafe cameron. he had quite the reputation around the island as a party boy and total manwhore of epic proportions. you didn't typically listen to the rumors about people that danced from ear to ear of gossipy teenagers and housewives with no better ways to spend their time alike, but you had made an exception for him.
"problem, sweetheart?" he taunted, his gentlemanly attitude dropped and replaced with his usual arrogant and entitled demeanor—the very same one that usually had women falling at his feet.
you simply raised an eyebrow at him, clearly less than amused at his behavior. "it's rude to interrupt people's private conversations," you ignored the pet named he'd condescendingly assigned you.
he crossed his arms, leaning back against the doorway as he studied you for a moment. he had noticed it when he first approached—that slight pull downward on your lips the moment you laid eyes on him—and it was ever-present now that you two were engaged in a conversation of your own. "you don't like me, do you?" he pondered aloud. "now, i wonder why that would be," he grinned wolfishly, not deterred by the fact one bit.
"well, you haven't exactly wooed me with your charm thus far," you retorted, crossing your own arms.
"hm," he hummed, his head lifting and falling subtly in a small nod as his eyes darted to the way your crossed arms in defiance pushed your tits together—a fact you didn't seem to realize as you stared him down. The look you were giving him wasn't exactly a glare, but you weren't regarding him with the warmth and adoration he had hoped to see when he swooped in to save you either. this, of course, only made him want you more.
"so, was there something you needed, or do you just enjoy asserting your dominance over people?" you asked, pulling his gaze back up to your face, specifically the way your glossed lips pulled into a tight line. he wondered what you tasted like, what every part of you tasted like.
"little bit of both," he shrugged, grinning widely with a wry amusement that had you fighting back an eyeroll—you already knew your mother would throw a fit if she saw your defensive stance and annoyance written on your face, especially since your conduct was directed at a cameron of all people. "lighten up, princess," he laughed. "i just wanted to talk."
"you talk a lot for someone who rarely says anything of substance," your snippy response tumbled from your lips quicker than you could contain it, making you straighten up as you tried to retain some semblance of poise.
"ouch, you wound me," rafe quips, clutching his chest in faux hurt. "you always throw insults at people you don't even know?"
"no, just you," you shrugged, looking around to make sure your parents weren't around to see how their well-mannered daughter seemed to lose her sense in the presence of kildare's golden boy.
"oh, so i'm special then?" he smiled, pleased by your response, which only seemed to fuel his already-texas-sized ego.
"sure, keep telling yourself that," you replied dryly, rolling your eyes at his smug grin.
he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the fact that he was getting under your skin, which only made your irritation grow. "i'm rafe cameron," he held out his hand.
you eyed his hand, not moving to shake it. you slowly trailed your gaze to his face, quirking an eyebrow. "i'm aware," you informed him, your tone cool and unimpressed, much less interested.
"well," he prompted, dropping his hand after a beat and shoving it into his pocket. "don't i get a name?"
"you haven't earned it," you countered quickly, a smile tugging at your lips now that you had an upper hand—the advantage of mystery.
"now, that's not fair," he rolled his eyes. he couldn't quite decide whether this little game was irritating him or amusing him, which only seemed to add to the thrill.
"whoever said life was fair, mr. cameron?" his name rolled off your tongue in a way that had him twitching in his pants. being called mr. cameron was only ever a formality—one that at times made him feel superior, and at others, he was indifferent to—but the way you said it seemed to change it's meaning entirely. "now if you'll excuse me," you said, your eye catching a friend from across the room.
she was giving you a wide-eyed look, her gaze darting. between you and the infamous kook king rafe cameron. you internally groaned, knowing you'd be bombarded by questions the moment you stepped within earshot.
as you turned to leave, rafe's hand immediately shot out and grabbed your bicep, stopping you. "i'm not done talking to you," he said, his tone lowering with a vaguely threatening timbre.
"yes, you are," you said firmly, pulling your arm from his grasp. if you were fazed by his slight demeanor shift, you didnt show it. "goodbye, rafe," you bid farewell before continuing your journey to your friend, who immediately grabbed your arm and pulled you close, giggling something into your ear when you reached her.
rafe watched your every move like a hawk throughout the rest of the night, waiting for the opportunity to get you alone somewhere, but, to his dismay, it never came.
at the end of the party, his father ushered him out to the car, talking his ear off about potential clients and business partners, but he had completely tuned him out, his mind instead filled with nothing but you. you may have been playing hard to get now, but he was destined to make you his, and rafe cameron always got what he wanted.

thinking about black swan and how she would so sweetly whisper praises in your ear as she pushed her fingers into your cunt, stretching your walls open.
she’d tell you how much of a good girl you were being, letting her pleasure you like no one else has.
the memo-keeper soaked in your whines like a prayer, her own warmth throbbing just from the sound of them.
“so sweet, so precious.”
her free hand would caress the plump of your chest, fingers teasing the hardened nipples whilst she thrusted into your cunt harder, curling the digits so she brushed against your sweet spot.
and if you ever tried to cover your pretty noises, she would give your sensitive bud a small smack, slowing down the pace of her fingers.
“let me hear you, dear; you know how much i love those sounds of yours.”

i care because it's not fair.
your story is the swan princess. you're resigned to that fact, ever since you grew when you were little--and your laughs turned into honks, human feet slowly beginning to resemble, transforming into a-a thing along the lines of becoming webbed, parts of your hair coming out when it's brushed--and are those feathers?
it's ugly. you hate it. like your story, like the merciless teasing you've experienced all throughout hexmentary.
maybe that's why you become so bitter.
you don't get a happy ending like all the other girls in your grade, but you're still a royal, so you try and be friendly, making friends.
but you're not an idiot, you can see, feel the scathing whispers behind your back.
"did you hear her laugh? it sounded like a geese!"
"i know right? how is that meant to be a princess?"
...
you grow up, you like dancing. it's something you're good at. you're eventually enrolled in ever after.
so when you see a ginger haired girl, hand in hand with the son of the huntsman, so much love in their eyes--you have a right to be angry. who do they think they are? prancing about like their livelihoods don't depend on the whole structure of what they do, following their destinites.
so yes. you have a right to feel like it's unfair, that this sniveling girl has the gall to spend her days living out a supposed illegal, fairytale romance, like she actually has a choice.
..you care.

I'd imagine you're like a full foot and a half bigger than him, and WAY stronger. so whenever he pisses you off you just pick him up like a baby and he cant do anything. he's also down BAD for the fact that you can overpower him. he's mr big and strong but he instantly gets dwarfed by your presence ... Loves challenging you just so you can pick him up. Imo chicken-guy Shedletsky doesnt have functional wings BUT YOU DO! AND YOU CAN FLY!! So if he's REALLY pissing you off, you just pick him up and fly as high as you can, and then just... Freefall. until he apologizes. He hates it. You always wrap him up in your wings and cuddle him afterwards. You frequently prune eachothers feathers as a kind of romantic intimacy, he loves running his hands along your feathers and feeling how soft they are. Lowk kinda jealous of your wings.

Okay okay... hear me out... your dad is Charlie Swan right? Either you're Bella's sibling or whatever but the important thing is Charlie is your dad, and he knows vampires are trying to seduce you. He knows they're going to get you into a world of trouble that he's helpless to fight against and YES of course he wants his baby to he happy but he also doesn't want you to end up dead or undead or anything to do with being dead in any form. So when you tell him you've been seeing this guy, and he's a little older but you really like him, Charlie's stomach drops. He thinks you mean hundreds of years older, that you've finally succumbed to whatever curse is in this godforsaken town that his kids always end up tangled up with these bedazzled leeches. But of course he loves you and wants you to be happy, so he agrees to meet the guy. The day comes and Charlie is sitting at the kitchen table, cleaning and prepping his shot gun when there's a knock at the door. He opens it to meet a rugged looking guy with a shotgun of his own.
"Dean!" Your voice comes from behind them as you descend the stairs, tackling him with a hug. Dean smiles warmly, greeting you with a kiss on the cheek before introducing himself and giving Charlie a firm handshake. To say Charlie is surprised is an understatement.
"So you're not a vampire? Werewolf? Leprechaun?" Charlie asks. Dean laughs, but there's a serious look in his eye when he answers.
"100% flesh and blood." He states. The relief Charlie feels is incomparable. Just when he thinks he can't like this Dean guy anymore, he tells Charlie why he's in town other than seeing you.
"There's actually a nasty vampire den in town I'm planning on getting rid of. You might know them, go by the Cullens?"
Suffice it to say, two things happened at once - Charlie, for the first time in your life, fully approved of one of your boyfriends, and the Swans joined the Winchesters as one of the most notorious demon and monster hunting families in North America.

Chapter Six - Reverse
Tough Love Masterlist
“How’s it going?” True to your word, you sat on the porch while Jacob sat out on the lawn, his hair short and an almost healed tattoo on his shoulder. He was unrecognizable really, so different from that lanky kid you had known.
Paul was sitting on the steps of the porch, silent but situated between you both. Billy had called him, expecting you ignore his advice. He knew you well. You knew Jacob better.
“Hot. My temperature is sky high.” Jacob explained and you nodded. You had already experienced Paul’s unnatural heat. Something about it rang a bell in the back of your mind but you couldn’t figure out why.
“You got big.” You pointed out and Jacob laughed, pulling up tufts of grass. “Bella thinks you’ve got the stomach flu. She’s got it.”
Jacob winced, tearing the grass up with a little more force. You pursed your lips while he took deep breaths to calm himself. “So when you get mad it makes you phase?”
“Basically. It won’t after a while but in the first few weeks it’s pretty bad.” Jacob explained and you nodded.
“Thinking about Bella makes you mad?” You asked and he sighed, shaking his head.
“Thinking about how she still loves that stupid blood sucker does. I tried, you know, I tried to help her. She won’t love me like that though.” Jacob exhaled a harsh breath and you tilted your head in confusion looking to Paul.
“Edward? What do you mean by-“ Faint legends returned to you and you gasped, jaw dropping. “Don’t you dare tell me what I think you will.”
“We don’t boycott the hospital for fun.” Paul sighed and you looked over to Jacob and back to Paul. “The Cullens are Cold Ones.”
“You’re joking. He was, he was in my house. She was in their house! How did she not know?” You asked in shock and your jaw dropped further at the shared look between Paul and Jacob. “She knew?!”
“We’re pretty sure she did.” Paul sighed and you found the wherewithal to shut your jaw. “They’re vegetarians.”
“Vegetarians.” You muttered faintly. “Mass psychosis is feeling more and more believable.”
“Yeah, you and me both. At least you don’t turn into an animal.” Jacob scoffed and you pulled a face. “Do you at least look cool?”
“Cooler than Paul.” Jacob sounded smug and you shrugged.
“Paul looks pretty cool. Very intimidating. I bet you look all adorable and cute.” A russet wolf appeared, looking every bit as menacing as scraps of clothes fluttered around him.
“Aw, does Fido want a treat?” Your voice shook a little, which you thought was fair enough, and Paul laughed while Jacob barked once before heading into the forest with a huff.
“Takes him a while to phase back.” Paul explained when he realised you were waiting on Jacob’s return. “Took me over an hour the first couple of times.”
“You wanna get something to eat?” You asked quietly and he nodded, relief plain on his face.
///
“Jake is pretty sick. I tried to bring him down soup and Billy wouldn’t even let me in. It’s not the same stomach bug you had. He’s got mono.” It was such a stupid lie. You had cringed when Billy had come up with it.
“I could just sit with him.” Your sister looked bad again. The shadows under her eyes had returned. The nightmares were back with a vengeance and Charlie was at his wits end.
“Mono is contagious Bella. You can’t visit him until he’s well again.” You explained, reaching out for your sister who flinched. “Bella, come on. You need to sleep.”
“I can’t do this again. Do you understand? I can’t.” You wondered how many hearts would be broken by the ‘gift’ of phasing. Bella was just getting back on track.
A couple of mornings later Bella was gone before you even woke, a worried Charlie had told you as much. Her truck was gone and the pair of you spent the morning calling around to see if anyone had seen Bella.
It wasn’t until midday when a knock at the front door had you hurrying to answer. Charlie was doing the rounds to see if he could find Bella or her truck.
Paul stood at the door and you sighed, defeated. He hesitated and you opened the door wider, letting him in.
“We found Bella out alone in the woods today.” He explained and your blood ran cold. “She was okay when we left her. But she came very close to not being okay. She was talking to another Cold One. We don’t know him but he’s been around before.”
“Why is she just a magnet for trouble?” You asked, perking up when the door opened but sighing when Charlie called to see if Bella had come home.
“She’s been up around La Push. Paul saw her driving around.” Charlie looked past you to where Paul was standing, a weird flip of the usual way this situation played out. “Says she seems pretty out of it. It’s going to be a rough night.”
The predictions of a rough night rang through. Bella had come home in a rush insisting it was wolves, not bears in the woods. Which left Charlie organising a search party with Harry.
You did your best to stay out of the way, resting for the evening because you knew that you wouldn’t sleep tonight.
What you didn’t expect was shortly after Paul left he made his way back, via your window. He was currently sat at your desk, flipping through your CD collection asking you trivial questions.
“Are you not mad because you can’t be mad at me or are you really not mad?” You asked quietly. He looked up from your desk with a frown.
“Mad about what?” He asked and you sighed, sitting up against your headboard, your knees pulled up to your chest. He moved from his seat at your desk to sit at the end of your bed.
“The way I reacted the other night. I left.” You sighed. You had seen Paul only a handful of times since then, usually so he could supervise visits to Jacob. Neither of you talked much during them.
“With the bomb I dropped? I don’t blame you one bit. A lot of pieces fell into place for you that day. Leah is your best friend, I understand you seeking her out. I know how hard it is to keep all of this from her.” He sighed and you sniffed. “You’ve got so much going on and yet you’re worried about my feelings?”
“I was mean.” You sighed and he chuckled, reaching out to you. You let him draw you into his lap and took comfort in his embrace. He inhaled like he was going to speak and then winced a split second before Bella’s nightmares took hold and she screamed.

Jealousy the Funny Disease (pt. 1)
*someone said something about a polycule and it grew in my brain*
There was a time where Rembrandt truly did believe that Ajax would figure it out. It being the obvious attraction Ajax had to Swan. Swan's attraction to Ajax. Rembrandt's attraction to Swan and Swan's attraction to Rembrandt that often involved Swan panicking if she so much as accidentally brushed the back of her hand against Rembrandt's. She thought that, once Ajax figured it out, maybe had a minor freak out about it, preferably chose to not fight Swan about said panic, maybe they could bring Swan into their relationship. Maybe it wouldn't be forever, but...Rembrandt thought it could be nice. At least for a little while.
They got close, in a way. There were many nights spent, just the three of them in the night, Swan and Ajax watching Rembrandt's back as she tagged. Swan might have flinched away from physical affection, but she always listened when Rembrandt went on her tangents and offered her quiet insights. She even went to the art museums with Rembrandt, which even Ajax found difficult, as much as she tried for Rembrandt. They went out to the queer bars and Swan hung around the walls, watching until it was time to go home. And despite the fact that Ajax was willing to wingman pretty much anyone, she never tried to find Swan a girl, not once. So. Rembrandt hoped. She hoped the little thing that existed between the three of them might grow.
Except Ajax never did figure it out. Swan became Cleon's number two and the closest her and Ajax came to talking about their mutual feelings was when they were pummeling each other. And Rembrandt never said anything, because she was painfully aware how badly this could go. How quickly Ajax would sacrifice herself if she thought it would make Rembrandt happy and that was simply not allowed.
Then came the night from Hell and, suddenly, Swan had a girlfriend for the first time. It hurt, a bit. To see Swan and Mercy so happy while Rembrandt stressed over Ajax getting out.
Ajax got out, though, sooner than anyone imagined and also too long - two months.
"Did she even go through initiation?" Ajax grumbled, brow lowered as she all but glared across Cleon's living room at where Mercy and Swan were curled up on the couch. Swan read a book and Mercy pretended to read the same book, but spent much more time slowly finger-combing Swan's hair.
"She did more than enough, be nice," Rembrandt chided, nudging Ajax's shoulder with her own where they leant against the wall.
Ajax's jaw flexed, but she didn't say anything. Well. She didn't say anything, then, and she didn't say anything specific.
"Her jokes aren't that funny," Ajax muttered under her breath later that night when Swan was laughing at something Mercy said.
It caught Rembrandt completely off-guard and all she could do was side-eye Ajax.
"Why the fuck doesn't she just wear her own colors?" Ajax grouched a couple of days later when Swan and Mercy were play fighting over Swan's colors, currently on Mercy's back.
Rembrandt looked down at her vest. Then at Ajax, "I stole your original vest."
Ajax gritted her teeth. "That's different."
"We were initiated at the same time."
"It's. Different." Rembrandt did not push it farther.
She thought it was cute, how Mercy stole Swan's colors. A traitorous thought occurred that it would be really cute if she stole Swan's and then Swan stole Ajax's. Then, Mercy and Rembrandt could watch Swan and Ajax fight over- Nope. Not going there, no, bad brain, baaaad brain, there is a snowball's chance in hell at this point.
"I can't believe Cleon sent them out alone," Ajax griped and, at this point, it had been two weeks of this nonsense and Rembrandt was losing her mind a little bit.
"Uh-huh," was Rembrandt's only response from her and Ajax's bed, sketching in her sketchbook while Ajax got ready for bed.
"She always sends Swan and me," Ajax continued. "Swan and I have each other's backs for gigs like that."
"They're still in Brooklyn."
"Swan's a good fighter, she can take me, but she isn't intimidating," Ajax said. "And neither is Mercy! Cleon's asking for them to get jumped!"
"Oh, my God, will you just admit you're jealous?!" Rembrandt exclaimed, looking up at Ajax exasperated.
"I'm not jealous!" Ajax retorted. Then, after a moment, more forcefully, "I'm not jealous! Why would I be jealous?"
Rembrandt groaned, rolled her eyes. "Never mind."
But Ajax was not finished. "Why would I be jealous? Just because Swan barely talks to me anymore. And now Cleon's sending Mercy out instead of me. I'm not jealous. I don't care that Swan thinks Mercy's funny. Or that Mercy's pretty in that soft, girly way. I don't want to be like that. You're pretty like that, though, so I do think it's kind of bullshit, because Swan should have noticed. And Swan needs other things, too. Swan's always taking care of everyone else and she never puts herself first, ever. Ever. She just met Mercy, there's no way that Mercy knows that Swan does that, so what if she lets Swan do that all the time. Not to mention, Swan never hangs out with us anymore! It's always, 'I'm going out with Mercy' or 'Mercy and I are doing-Oh."
Ajax turned to Rembrandt with wide-eyes. "Am I jealous of Mercy?!"
"Yes. Yes, you are, thank you for finally catching up, you have been driving me crazy for weeks," Rembrandt grumbled as she tried to return to her sketchbook.
"But- I-"
Rembrandt finally took pity on Ajax. "We both liked Swan. Swan liked us. Neither of you figured it out enough to talk about it and now we're here." Then, because Rembrandt knew where Ajax was going to go with this, "Ajax, she really likes Mercy."
"But," Ajax's nose crinkled, the way it did when she was faced with a difficult problem. "Were we dating?"
"No," Rembrandt sighed. "No. Dating implies actual understanding. We were...doing something. I don't know, but...No. It is what it is."
"I don't like that."
"I know. But do you really want to mess this up for her? She's the happiest I've seen her in a long time."
It should have been easy, to watch someone you cared deeply for be happy. Even if it was with someone else.
It would have been easy, if Mercy wasn't Mercy.
Mercy tried so hard and there was something about that effort that made Rembrandt's heart ache as she watched it. She wanted to wrap Mercy up and promise that they had her, it was okay, no one was going to send her away, she was a Warrior now. Instead, Rembrandt had to trust that Swan was doing that.
"Why is Mercy funny?" Ajax grouched at their ceiling one night.
"Because she's fucking perfect," Rembrandt grouched back.
"Why are they both- That isn't fair."
"It really isn't."
"We're funny!"
"I'm funny."
"Okay, well, I'm buffer than Swan."
"I'm at least as pretty as Mercy."
"...this isn't making me feel better."
"Yeah, no, I don't think trash-talking women we like is going to help us."
To be Cont'd

Emma smiled softly, feeling the tiredness take over as she watched the flames in the fire flicker and hearing the cracks of the wood burning within it. She was sitting on the couch, wearing a warm sweater and pyjama pants, along with some some fluffy socks. It was a cold December night, snow had been falling for two days, and it was becoming heavier with every minute that passed.
Regina walked through her hands wrapped around two warm mugs, one filled with hot cocoa and cinnamon for her wife, and the other was an orange and cinnamon herbal tea for herself. Regina herself was wearing her own warm pyjamas and a fluffy jumper. She set her tea down on the table next to the piano, and walked over to Emma passing her the mug of hot cocoa, placing one hand gently on the side of Emma’s face as she lent down giving her wife a soft but warming kiss on her temple, Emma hummed feeling Regina’s lips reach her skin.
Regina still was in awe of how she was so lucky to have Emma as her wife, “I love you.”
Emma smiled up at her “Thank you—wait no—” Emma the idiot as always.
“Thank you?” Regina crooked her head to the side, an eyebrow arched.
“No—no not thank you, I meant to say I love you too, I’m not sure why I said thank you.”
Regina chuckled shaking her head, her finger tilting Emma’s chin up towards her “What am I going to do with you? Hmm?” Regina crouched down in front of the Emma, her dark brown orbs glowing with warmth, she then lay her hands on Emma’s knees “What shall I play for you tonight?”
“The same as always.” Emma voice was already low, exhaustion taking over. “Dance of the sugar plum fairy.”
“Alright. It’s my favourite too darling.” Regina’s lips curled up into a soft smile, holding Emma’s hands and pressing her lips onto her wife’s knuckles, before making her way over to the big beige oak piano.
Regina sat herself down on the edge of the bench at the piano, her back to Emma, her fingers trailing her sleeves of her knitted jumper and she pulled them up her arm in a forceful manor. Regina sat with her back up right and her arms straight out in front of her but controlled, her fingers began on the keys and the music began to hum from the piano, an angelic and feathery sound throughout the room.
Regina’s beautifully elegant red painted fingers danced along the keys, with each full sound of music escaping like she was dancing among the stars. It was delicate and beautiful, and every single time she played, Emma could swear she fell even more in love with her—she was even more beautiful when she was in her element, playing the music she wanted to and for the person she loved, what could be better than that?
Regina finished with a soft but loud attack on the keys, she closed the lid quietly, turning around to see Emma fast asleep spread out on the couch and the throw slowly collapsing onto the floor.
Regina couldn’t help but smile, her Emma, her savior, fast asleep on their couch. She looked so peaceful, like nothing could go wrong and everything was perfect and right in the world.
Regina pushed herself up from the bench, walking over to her sleeping wife and picked up the throw—manoeuvring her body as she slid in behind the blonde.
One settled Regina pulled the throw over the two of of them. She curled up into Emma’s warm body, her legs intertwined with Emma’s, one arm under Emma’s neck and dangling over the side of the couch—the other arm draped over her wife’s waist. Emma instinctively let out a soft moan as Regina wrapped her hand around Emma’s.
The two of them curled up on the couch, in front of the fire until the last flicker of the orange flames from the fire went out.
