The restaurant table you’re both sitting at is tucked away in a corner and gives you enough privacy to feel comfortable having this conversation with Garrett out in public. The restaurant itself is exclusive in its own right, similarly to the first place Garrett took you. It’s not as high class in the sense that you feel underdressed with business casual, but it’s the type of locale that other celebrities or higher class individuals tend to frequent and it makes you feel secure in the fact that the staff are trained to be discreet about anything they might overhear.

“But,” you shrug, “I don’t think you need me to tell you that.”

Garrett takes a slow sip from his coffee and raises an eyebrow at you over the rim of his cup. While he does so, you appraise him. The only other time you’ve seen him in something other than his training attire or some equally comfortable athletic-adjacent wear was the first night you both went out, and you hadn’t really been paying much attention to him then━ too focused on trying not to scream your head off in frustration.

He looks good though, which you’re loath to admit. Garrett, at the very least, has fashion sense if nothing else. If he were even half decent his style might’ve been enough to make up for the rest of the decency he’s missing, but as it stands he’s so far below the bar that his ability to dress nice only serves to get him within jumping distance of your lowest standards.

He lowers his cup back down the table with a faint clink, and then steeples his fingers together on the table.

“Quite frankly, Y/N━” the way your name sounds on his lips makes you shiver, but not at all in the way it’s described in the romance novels you used to read back in school. It’s like the human equivalent of your hackles rising, sensing danger, knowing you need to make yourself bigger to appear like more of a threat, “━I don’t really care what you think of me. This is more of a business transaction than an actual relationship. You don’t need to like me, you just need to pretend you do.”

He ends it with what would be a charming smile on anyone else, but knowing who he is beneath his charismatic facade makes it look sleazy.

You scoff. “For a guy who’s so desperate to fix his reputation, you sure aren’t doing anything to actually try and fix who you are as a person.”

It’s his turn to scoff. “I don’t actually need to be a better person, I just need everyone to think I’m a better person.”

“Fair enough.” You can’t argue with that. “But if I’m going to be spending a prolonged amount of time with you, you’re gonna have to at least pretend to not be a total dick.” You take a sip of your coffee.

He watches you for a moment━ observes your face, your hands, the way you tap your fingers against the table once your cup has been lowered. And you watch him right back. His steepled fingers have intertwined together, and he’s resting his chin atop them in a show of nonchalance, but his eyebrows are furrowed tight and his shoulders are pulled tense.

“What do you even want out of this?” He finally asks after another few seconds of silence broken only by the quiet drone of other restaurant patrons in the background. “What’s so important to you that it matters more than whatever notoriety being with me could give you?”

The Manchester skyline outside the window draws your gaze as you ponder how to go about explaining your answer. The storm-darkened sky casts the city streets below in a heavy shadow, which mimics your own mood as of late. It’s the weekend now, but Lando’s call and the things he’d drunkenly said still looms over you. You’d spent the week in a bad mood that not even your newfound friendship with Jack was capable of easing, and each day with continued radio silence on Lando’s end━ the fact that he can’t even bother to apologize himself━ only sours things more and more.

It had soured even more when McLaren’s PR team manager had reached out to you with the knowledge that you could plan on being back at the Technology Centre in Woking by the end of the month, in just under two weeks. In and of itself this hadn’t been bad news, but it meant seeing Lando again and unless he reaches out first to extend an olive branch, you could almost guarantee you’d be in for an uncomfortably awkward reunion.

But none of that matters right now.

“I’ll admit, I’m taking a page out of your book and being a prick,” you say as you turn back to Garrett. “But, in my case, it’s entirely warranted because he was a prick first.”

“What’d this guy do?”

In an odd turn of events, it feels as though you’re gossiping with Garrett Ward of all people. Without the context of your relationship with him━ the real one, not the one you’re pretending to have━ you imagine you probably look like two friends talking shit, or pretty close to the couple you’re supposed to be. Despite being such a twat normally, Garrett really does just come across as being a normal guy.

You have to remind yourself just what he threatened to do. He’s not a normal guy━ he’s dangerous. But he’s also a crucial part of your plan, and there was certainly some truth when he’d called things between you a business transaction. You don’t have to like him, but you have to trust that he’s got his own best interest in mind and you can certainly capitalize off of that.

“He had some choice words about our ‘relationship,’” you start, fiddling with the handle of your cup. “And even though we aren’t actually together and I probably wouldn’t touch you even if we were the last two people on Earth, it’s the principle behind it all. He has no right to judge me so harshly for my relationship choices, so I’m going to flaunt that I don’t care what he thinks, he’s not my keeper, and I will date whoever I damn well please,” you finish with a huff.

Garrett blinks at you. You’re starting to think he just has a staring problem, but before you can call him out on it he rolls his eyes, crosses his arms, and leans back in his seat━ looking the part of the smug douche he actually is. “You like this guy, and you want to use me to make him jealous because you’re pissed that he hasn’t given any hint at being interested in you but still feels as though as if he can be possessive over you.”

You blink at him. “No. Absolutely not.”

He raises an infuriating eyebrow.

“Fuck you,” you mutter into your cup, taking a sip to avoid having to say anything more.

Garrett heaves a sigh. “I suppose I could help you with that. We’ll be doing the couple shit anyways, might as well kill two birds with one stone and solve your problem and mine.” The way he says it makes it seem as though he’s doing you a favor, and if you weren’t so sure that he’d rescind his willingness to help if you argued with him, you’d call him out on the fact that technically he’s the one who owes you after you agreed to help him with his dilemma in the first place.

“Why not just be honest with him?” He says after another moment.

You snap your eyes back to him. “What?”

“Why not just be honest?” He repeats with a shrug. “Aren’t you worried he’ll lose eventually lose interest if he thinks you’re off the market?”

You scoff, “I’m not off the market. I’m just not available to the public.” You’d sat awake at night not long after things with Garrett began and realized that it really was all just an act. Actors kiss in front of a camera all the time, but at the end of the day they go home to their real partners and that’s the only person that really matters. Things aren’t all that different between you and Garrett. You call yourselves a couple, but side from the agreement that you’ll act like one in public, there’s no obligation or commitment to put one another first. Garrett will always prioritize his career, reputation, and friendships over you, and you’re rather inclined to do the same.

He purses his lips.

“Oh please,” you roll your eyes. “As if you expect me to believe you aren’t still planning to pick up a few birdies at the pub and show them a fun time.”

“My situation is different than yours. I’m the one trying to convince the media I’ve changed, which means I need someone who can be discreet, and a birdie from the pub certainly isn’t that.” He shrugs his shoulders. “Not getting laid for a few months is just a sacrifice I have to make to keep my place at Man City.”

You don’t mention that no matter what he does to try and clean up his act, Manchester City won’t be keeping him around after his contract expires. He wouldn’t believe you anyway, but even if he did you doubt he’d be all that willing to continue with this facade.

“More fun for me then,” you say instead, returning the smug smirk he’d given you earlier.

He glares.

💠Speaking of which... while Tony gets a set amount of money from his parents each week 💅 he's a big spender. Of course this mf has a side hustle doing "tutoring." It's only called that so he doesn't get in trouble, but everyone knows he really just does all the work for a hefty sum. Most of it probably goes towards you though 😇 And obviously you get his tutoring services for free 😘 Except maybe for a "favor" or two... or maybe he'll even tutor you in some other things, free of extra charge 😉

💠But going back to classes, you may end up asking yourself why you chose to take a class with him again halfway through the semester. You love him to death, but if he's not trying to talk to you right in the middle of a lecture you already can't hear because he always wants to sit in the back (even in those auditorium classrooms and long lecture halls), he's doodling in the corner (or center 🤧) or the paper you're writing on or kicking your feet under the table! Somehow he's just so convincing. Or maybe it's the fact he'll help you out and you don't have to pair up with some random student for projects? Or maybe it's because you reallyyyy love him and want to have a schedule that perfectly fits around him so you can see each other more often :)

💠Study dates? All the time! An easy way to turn a long homework/study session into something a little more fun and cute! Sometimes they're at a cute café on the corner, but usually they're in his bed 🤫

💠Speaking of that cute café on the corner, you're there nearly every day! The workers probably know you by name, and know the things you order! It's a nice place that's usually quiet right after afternoon classes while you wait for later classes, or maybe you're just getting a late lunch. Either way, it's a nice hangout spot when the crowdedness of the drill field or campus-run cafes become a bit much, especially if you're trying to do a bit of homework or, you know, actually want to hear one another's conversation 🤧

💠You two are hardly ever separated. If you aren't at his house nearly every night, he's climbing through the window into your bedroom every other night! If you live in a dorm, he may be over some, but mostly he prefers to take you home with him 😏 He prefers the privacy and hanging out with you alone tbh, and while he may enjoy any ogling from your roommates, you might not 🤧

💠He'll even walk you to class even if his starts at the same time in a whole different building, or even sneak in when his class gets canceled! Some of those classes are big enough for no one to notice, but watch out-- he's usually feeling a little more mischievous in these situations, and may even ask the professor stupid questions that make you want to shrink into your seat...

💠Skipping class? He'll do it pretty often, but then he'll be all pouty when you skip class without him :( But considering how often you're together (and wake up together), you'll probably just be able to look at each other and decide to skip together!

💠Are there any concerts nearby? Tony is skipping a whole day to wait in that line for the pit, or even skipping if he has seat tickets. He may even literally pull you out of your class when he decides to go at the last second! Hope you don't have 8am classes the next morning!

💠Tony only has like one friend, but he knows just about everybody! More importantly, who throws the good parties and when. If you aren't a partier, he'll leave the subject alone after the first few times, and you not going will actually stop him from going! He may go to the one's before the semester starts and maybe when it ends, but he's no longer a frequent flyer. It's just not the same now that he has you and could be doing something with you instead! Like maybe raiding his father's alcohol and doing body shots with you 😏 Or maybe you're not into that at all... in which he may still do the shots part, and leave you with taking care of a drunken Tony

💠If you are a partier, or maybe just want to go once or twice to say you went to a "real college party", he'll be pretty stoked! Well, then he does start to worry a little, especially if you've never done anything like this. He knows the ones who are wild but decent, and those who are wild and shitty people, at least, so he'll be a lot more careful in choosing which ones he takes you to and be mindful of who's around😬 He won't drink nearly as much as he usually does even if you are, and you can guarantee he hovers all night instead of doing some dumb shit like jumping in the pool. Honestly, he'll probably decide it's more fun (and safer) to just have a party between yourselves back at home, and maybe that's a good thing! He's been lucky to make it home unscathed half-drunk at 3am, and unlucky enough to have sat in the sheriff's office with the others that weren't able enough to scatter away in time 😔 Plus, he's gotten into a fight or two at said parties, and you're probably tired of patching up bruised knuckles and split lips :/

💠Tony's very good at what he does and what he's learning! Honestly, you'd argue that he's well ahead of the classes he has to take and is just getting a degree because you sort of have to? He does seem to love what he does, or at the very least he just likes being good at something? You're not sure if it's what he wants to do, but he doesn't seem very pressed about it either way. However, he's very sympathetic if you aren't sure what you want to do. 2am talks about the future and where to go in life and they never seem to really solve anything? All the time, and he'll even join in! Threaten to drop out and he'll pout about you leaving him alone, and who's he going to embarrass now at graduation? Maybe he'll just drop out too! You probably make up silly back-up plans or quite literally throw darts blindly at a board to choose your major.

💠If you do know what you want to do, that's great! Tony won't really care what you do, but there are some things that will bore the hell out of him. Hey, maybe his long rants about god-knows-what bores you too! He may not really follow if you're trying to talk art and literature with him. He enjoys seeing you all excited over something, and he likes looking at art (especially if you can draw him- he'll be so puppy and excited), don't get him wrong! But, why are you so excited about a book that you can hardly keep up with? He can hardly keep up with you trying to explain the book! He'll probably do best with a history or business major, mostly. Hell yeah he wants to hear about some obscure war or hilarious monarch mishap! There's not much to really rant about with, say, accounting, but he knows math and numbers, and might enjoy helping you work or watching you! With business, he's probably more interested in law or cybersecurity. He might fuck with his dad every time he learns some new specific law and its workaround and loopholes when you're studying, or you both may get up to no good and see who can bypass the school's security systems and firewalls first 🤭

💠If you're in the same field as him, you may be a bit intimidated! He's pretty far ahead, and so effortlessly finishes work way before you do. However, you'll be able to take even more classes together, and doing projects together for class will usually be fun! Except he knows other ways to do it that you haven't learned about, and might try to take over a lot... so it might be best if you don't take too many 😅 Unless you just want that easy A. Also, he might, might, let you help out with his bigger personal projects, especially after seeing how you do with class assignments, and you might even be able to offer a new perspective! Hey, at least you can keep up with most of his tangents and know what he's doing!

💠He also wasn't kidding after all when he said he'd be the loudest one at your graduation, whether it's with him or not 😳 He's also going to celebrate more than you, even if you're the only one of you walking that day! You may end up taking care of a drunk Tony again at 2 in the afternoon 😅

💠But since he graduates Summa Cum Laude, whether you like it or not, you'll end up in his silly little speech at graduation ❤ Don't worry, it's mostly sweet 🙄😘

For reference, I didn't read them in order. I read Love first, then Lies, then Hate, then Games. But I could follow everything just fine.

Overall thoughts: I really like this series. I don't think they're literary masterpieces, and you can tell the themes that Ms. Huang sticks to in her books. But they're fun, the twists in the stories were good, and they were 🌶🌶🌶 muy caliente 🌶🌶🌶.

I will likely let Games settle for a minute then go back and read them as well as some of the additional material. If you like spicy romance with morally gray men who apparently aren't allowed to have functional families and beautiful, slightly naive women (other than Jules) who also have family issues, all with people who have more money than you will ever have in your lifetime, I recommend.

i think i said this in another ask, but i imagine canary and adler to have a very olivia pope/papa pope from scandal kind of dynamic. i think really it only could've come from adler. he raised her, he knows her best, what makes her tick, how to get under her skin. he's the only one who she would listen to, albeit reluctantly, about getting her revenge. and despite her problems with him, she knows on some level that he's right; she's an adler, and she should be giving everyone hell.

to me, adler is very much a "don't dwell on your problems, figure out how to solve them and move on" kind of guy, and that extends to his wife's death. he needs to keep going and move on, so instead of taking responsibility and mourning properly, he channeled his feelings into blame on his daughter and moved on. he knows it's wrong, but he needed it to be true to be able to keep going.

graves needs to on his knees begging for his life tbh, that man has been nothing but trouble. it'll be interesting to see where canary goes from here, because her not being dead is sure to cause all kinds of chaos and problems but that can be used to her advantage if she plays it smart. having the element of surprise is a pretty big advantage for her.

anon who said she’d read chapter 3 after the enha concert here!!! once again, the chapter was so good!! i was actually impatient and read it before i started getting ready to go to the concert 😭 yn’s gc with giselle and karina had me deadddd. ALSO jay would talk you through it omggggg 😵‍💫😵‍💫

as for the concert it was AMAZING!!! other than having to rush a little bit to get ready, it was the first concert i’ve been too where everything went smoothly for me. we made it early, got inside super fast as soon as doors opened, got merch fast, and we were able to use the restrooms and eat properly in no rush before the show. even getting home was quick and easy (getting home from nct 127 was an actual mess for me so i have a little bit of trauma) 😭 anyways i think the universe anticipated how much i wanted this so it made sure everything went well.

as for the acc concert, I LUV ENHA SO MUCH ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 our view was right in the middle so we were able to focus on the actual stage too rather than just the big screens and jfc they’re so in sync it amazed me. like even other groups are in sync too but enha’s choreo is so hard and the setlist was so physically demanding it was crazy to me that they’re able to make it seem so easy. THEY WERE SO STABLE TOOOO. enha best performers of 4th gen me thinks!! they’ve really proved their talent since they’ve debuted and i’m so proud!!! sunghoon mentioned some of the members were feeling a little sick cause of all the weather changes 🥺🥺🥺 yet they were all so happy and energetic and cute during their ments 🫶🏽🫶🏽 the production value was also crazy, the coffin shaped screens and stage was so creative tbh even if it’s one little detail. lighting and all went crazy too and made things so fun. you can tell money was put into the tour. i may be biased towards them but definitely my favorite kpop concert so far for sure!! just love enha sm 🥰🥰🥰 i only feel the same way for like two other groups, i’m selective af

as for the members omg HYUNG LINE HAD ME DEADDDD, they’re so fine. as a jay girly i already was screeching everytime he showed up. he just has this attractive aura surrounding him 24/7, oooooh i want him so bad 😫😫 BUT JAKE AND HEESEUNG OOOOOOH. jake was my og enha bias and has been my second bias since jongseong took the number one spot, but i think he’s fighting for number 1 again he’s just sooooo fine i was ready to get on my knees for him. everyone was down bad for him oof. heeseung is so sexy when performing jfc his expressions and energy 😍😍. sunghoon’s face card was crazy and he’d just show up on camera and id just be like how are you able to look like that. i almost passed out during that one move in sacrifice where he runs his hand down his body. jungwon is so cute, i’ve always seen him as my son even tho he’s like only a year younger than me 💀 but he was so cute during the ments especially when speaking english 🥹 sunoo is such a pretty man i cannot believe he’s real. ni-ki’s stage presence is so crazy. a true performer. he got so many cheers during the performances, but he deserves it. that’s my son fr and he deserves the world!!! overall they’re amazing performers, every member really shined through at some point and i’m so grateful i got to see them. i’m actually so close to buying a nosebleed ticket for their second show tn and going to just take in the moment without recording or worrying about what i’m wearing and all. i really hope they go to europe soon so you can see them!!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽❤️‍🔥

another thing i kinda wanna rant about. it’s so annoying that kpop concerts have become about interactions and videos. ik that people already say this on twitter so much but it’s so true!!! everyone on the floor was just recording the whole time. i get it to some extent because enha is soooo close to you and i’m v grateful for those super close up videos at every concert. but even enha said they love it when fans dance along. even tho i recorded most of the concert i kept my phone lower and made sure i was also taking in the concert from my own eyes and dancing alone (basically multitasking lmao). even enha was like we love seeing the fans dancing and having fun, but poor boys cannot see that on the floor (which probably are the only fans they can see clearly with all the lights on them). and when pola love came on and they went down into the crowd you’d just see crowds of people running towards each side of the barricades it was crazy to see from the seated sections fr, i was like uhm 😀😀😀 even girls from the seated sections ran down towards the seated section barricade to see them just a little bit closer, i was like girl….🙄🙄 even on twitter people talk about how it’s always the same ppl at send off and they never move for other people to even just greet enha. when i went to ateez in early 2022 they didn’t have an extended stage and tbh at this time the only fanservice done was during encore. the energy was so much diff and everyone was genuinely having so much fun. i guess it leads to more funny moments and feeds the delusion a little with kpop idols being more interactive with fans now but sometimes it seems as if ppl aren’t there for the actual concert aspect but to get their little moment with the idols. still the energy was amazing during a lot of the songs and i’m still so happy ☺️☺️☺️
