Rant about season 6b of Teen Wolf:

Officially finished Teen Wolf season 6b and all I have to say is…that was one of the worst endings I’ve ever seen. Not because it was a like “bad” ending (if yk what I mean) but it just didn’t tug any of my heart strings it made me feel numb and just thinking wtf did I just watch. I cried at the end of season 6a but this just didn’t do it for me. Stiles wasn’t that present in like one of the only episode he was in. Jackson and Ethan being back was nice but it was just kinda whatever. Didn’t really get the plot bc it was weird. Didn’t like Monroe or Theo’s redemption arc (sorry Theo lovers) You’re also telling me Argent was looking for Kate with the other hunters and they didn’t find her that whole time? Argent and Mellisa was an interesting choice but alr. Didn’t care for Scott and Malia it was weird with them two. Deucalion’s (or however you spell his name) death was actually the only thing I felt upset about. Peter was mid throughout this season. Didn’t understand Nolan’s character too much (he was an odd character for me so I kind of half watched when he was on screen.) I had no complaints with Liam, Mason, Or Corey they were all actually pretty good this season. I liked Liam and Theo’s interactions, although I didn’t care for Theo being redeemed, they were a funny duo. Also your telling me that the Sheriff and Stiles didn’t interact like once? I’m just sad we didn’t get to see that because I love their father and son dynamic. Stiles got his Jeep back which was nice even though he should’ve never given it to Scott lmao (personal opinion.) Also the humor (that was like absent all through season 6b) was back in the final episode which was like a breath of fresh air. Liked seeing Derek though. Overall wasn’t a good season for a final season. It could’ve been good for an earlier one but I understand it’s a bit of a bigger issue. Anyway love Teen Wolf just was overly disappointed with what I spent 5-7 hours watching.

Aight so now that I have finished Brothersong I have THOUGHTS on further logistical breakdowns of how Green Creek could be adapted to a GLAAD Award-Winning HBO TV show. Spoilers so here is a cut for anyone who wants to be fresh to the series.

PRE-PRODUCTION

OKAY SO! The filming block for Season 1/Wolfsong would MOST LIKELY be the biggest, especially for scenes involving younger versions of the actors. As these are spread out across, like, all four books, some are just “scene we’ve seen but from a different perspective or with ‘Dream Seauence VFX’ so we just need more blocking/extra takes to make it all seem believeable using B-roll” to “yeah this requires Young Thomas and various child actors so we’re filming this beforehand so that everyone looks the same when these scenes come up later” to “ah hell we gotta shave their heads anyways might as well film the revenge road trip.” Thus, basically everyone but, like, Dominique would have to be cast by Season 1, and probably all of Season 1 and half of season 2 would need to be written and finalized and drafts/outlines of Season 3 and 4 would need to be made before casting would begin. Writer’s room would include TJ and a racially-diverse LGBT staff.

Caswell wouldn’t need to be fully built but enough of a location would be needed to film individual scenes with the younger actors and scenes set in the big house at Caswell (ie arguments between Mark and Thomas, Joe being taken, Thomas in the woods with the kids, Thomas writing the letters)

Title sequence would be based on the lovely new covers for the hardcover editions from Tor. They’d get longer with each season and by the end we see the whole pack in the papercraft style of the covers.

CASTING

Yeah we’d need a big ass cast. With multiple actors to play different characters at different ages.

Babies:

Carter, Kelly, Joe, maybe also Gavin depending on things

Children:

Gordo, Gavin, Mark, Rico, Chris, Tanner, Carter, Kelly, Joe, Robbie

Young Adult (ie Teen to Mid 20s) and Adult (ie by the Rough Present of when Ox first discoveres the secret of the Bennetts)

Basically everyone else

The tricky part will be that, yeah, there will probably need to be different actors for 20s Thomas, Elizabeth, Mark, and Gordo because while a 20-something can play 16 or so, its harder for 30-40 year olds to play 20-something. The upside being that an older actor CAN play Gordo for the scenes after Ox’s dad leaves (also Ox’s dad will need a name lol). You would need to switch to older actors for the Bennett kids and Ox basically once Ox graduates high school. But then you can keep all the same actors for the rest of the “present” set scenes. Osmond, and Robert Livingstone would also need younger actors. Richard Collins would only need one actor he’s barely in the flashbacks as it is.

STRUCTURE/PLOT RAMBLINGS

There are a few things that would need to be done in order to improve the pacing for TV, imo. Mainly, that the handing off of Alpha of All to the Fairbanks pack needs to feel more earned and less semi-random. Like, show them taking in Omegas at the end of Season 2, have them be allies at Caswell in Season 3 and the final battle in Season 4. Flesh them out a bit more. Also some continuity smoothing would be needed (ie clarifying that Gordo refused Mark’s MATE bite not Thomas’s BECOME WOLF bite).

Some more forshadowing of Robert’s failsafe in Season 2 would help. Obviously SHOW Gavin’s timber wolf in the attack on Jessie (and ideally have the actor be the body actor wearing the CGI ball suit moving all wolf-like in the scene) in Season 1.

I’d personally add in more of a wrap-up in Caswell at the end of Season 4. And also an extended aftermath scene or episode after Ox’s resurrection. Joe’s wolf is still bigger than almost everyone else, but not as big as it was when he was Alpha. One thing that I’d ask to be added is, maybe with the death of Robert and the ressurrection of Ox there’s a big ass magic pulse and we get a follow-up with the new Alpha of All from Alaska training Betas who have become Alphas thanks to Mystical Moon Magic as they rebuild packs across the continent. Idk the story needs more of a denumont. Alpha of All making more of an effort to try and bring Omegas back from the brink before just automatically deciding to kill them.

Dominique could have human bite marks on her to show thar Jessie tried to “Mate Bite” too even as a human. Bambi and Rico too.

He/They Gavin? Maybe? Gavin feels very he/they. Also Elizabeth showing affection to Maggie (hey if we’re gonna imply that Thomas and Richard had a kind of romantic love for each other in Brothersong before he went Omega Lizzie can make side-eye at Maggie).

Show more of the three year gap between Ravensong and Heartsong (not a lot but more than just one bit when Robbie is kidnapped). And the new story in the deluxe hardcover books too. The myth or whatever. That can be animated in a sketchy style (think Princess Kaguya or Wolfwalkers) with VO from Elizabeth.

Anyway rambling over I love these books so much. TJ I woudn’t say no to a LIGHT DRAMA/mostly fluff 5th book or short story. Maybe from Chris or Tanner’s perspective? Or Jessie’s?

Teen Wolf Rewatch 2.03 Ice Pick

Scott's going on double dates while Derek is recruiting.

Allison starts her training and it's deeply fucked up. They kidnap her and make her think her dad's been kidnapped too. Then they foreshadow her mom's suicide with the "do you know what happens to hunters who get bitten" monologue. Chris explains she's being trained to lead because the women have the final call, but Kate answered to Chris and Victoria didn't approve of the plan to frame her. Victoria sure is badass though, harming herself to better spy on and control her daughter.

Poor Lydia is really going through it. First her crazed ex rants nonsense at her. Then she hallucinates and has flashbacks in private, which is bad enough, but then she does it mid-date in front of her friends.

Derek is recruiting. Scott says he needs three, which is the first we're hearing about it, but I suppose the writers needed a nice number to keep things manageable. Anyway, the creepy way he recruited Erica was creepy with the isolating and the touching. I get why she said yes. Not just because of the seizures and the way her peers treated her, but because the possible problem of being a wolf would have just sounded like trading one list of shity potential side effects for another. Now she's out here living her fantasy of being stared at on her terms instead of being an object of scorn and pity.

I am so torn about Scott's actions in this. He's operating from a place of trauma. The Bite ruined his life. His Alpha abused him. Derek manipulated him before screwing him out of a cure. He's operating from a place of empathy where he's trying to spare others his suffering, but it's not his call. Yes, Derek is using them, but they're all using him too to get the things no one else bothered to help them with. Last season in 1.06, Stiles told Scott his powers meant he couldn't not act, and he's decided that means he has to save everyone even from themselves. I just don't think he has that right.

Other thoughts: Posey gets to try his hand at more physical comedy at the skate rink. Stiles flirting with Scott. Jackson suddenly has a truck and super strength. Stiles concussion count #1.

also also i could excuse jeff not knowing the timeline entirely in the first episode but come on. how do you not even know how long ago the main source of conflict for the season (the hale fire) happened??? fym 'like ten years ago' AND 'he's only a few years older than us' and then he was a senior when it happened?? or a junior??? 'ten years ago'????? give me strength

(also also jackson whittemore was fifteen the entire time he was in the show (save for his return for the finale). he was a literal baby. before liam showed up, he was the youngest character in the entire thing. WHY WERE THEY ALL SO SEXUALISED?? AND PLAYED BY PEOPLE IN THEIR MID-TWENTIES (except for stiles ik ik ik))

it was WEIRD to have sixteen-year-old lydia having that much rebound sex pre-s3, it was WEIRD to pair her up with a fully grown man and LIE ABOUT HER BEING AN ADULT, it was WEIRD to have her be naked that much AT FIFTEEN, it was weird to have a joke about stiles getting preyed on by drag queens ALSO at fifteen, and it was stupid to not have a canon timeline even to its barest bones before the show started.

Having finally watched the Teen Wolf Movie, I can say it’s mid at best. The story is a non sequitor to the series finale. It gives something interesting for Derek and Scott to grapple with, but the rest of the characters are just there as plot drivers (Liam and Mason could both be replaced by randos and nothing would change). The Nogitsune is a broken record, very obviously milking the greatest hits from season 3B. But at least they managed to insert a campy lacrosse game into the final battle AND it’s in daylight. I loved seeing Peter and Chris interact (*cough*they need a threesome with Melissa*cough*), though I feel like Peter was overacted (I say as someone who loves Peter being a melodramatic queen). I think the most fun was how many F-Bombs and naked asses they managed to squeeze into the runtime.

Blatantly stealing from @pixiedustandbluebutterflies because I also dislike new year's resolutions (partly because I do inevitably run out of spoons OR just forget because wriggly brain by mid-February) but I LOVE the idea of goals, hopes, and things I'm excited about. So without further chattering...

My Goals for 2023

- Get my finances to a stable place I want to be able to delete all my payday advance apps, clean up my monthly subscriptions, pay down my credit cards so I can actually use them for emergencies as intended, and just not be scrambling around payday every two weeks to figure out how I'm going to make things work.

- Read more I'm not putting a specific number on it, I just want to spend more time reading than I did this year, especially when the only thing stopping me was doom scrolling or flipping mindlessly through my Roku channels looking for something to watch and finding nothing. I want to recapture the joy and peace I used to feel just getting lost in reading for a while, whether that's fanfiction, original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, whatever.

- Finish a WIP Any WIP, fanfic or original work, I just want to feel that sense of satisfaction when a piece I've worked on for ages is finally done.

- Go swimming every week this summer I have free unlimited access to a pool AND the beach for the first time in my life, I might as well use them!

- Learn to let go of things Specifically, tasks or goals I've set for myself that I never get around to that are mentally and emotionally blocking me from doing other things I actually want to do, like old WIPs from my Glee fandom days I can't stand to look at anymore.

My Hopes for 2023

- Get my various health issues resolved/under control

- Get to a place in therapy where I can think/talk about my familial issues without reliving them

- Finish a creative project (the one with Liz)

- Get pre-approved for a home loan

- Witness evil men finally suffer the consequences of their misdeeds

- Teen Wolf Movie (January)

- Bridgewater Season 2 (January)

- Criminal Minds Evolution (January)

- The Winchesters (January 24th)

- Eras Tour! (April); Going to see Taylor Swift live with some of the best people I know. We have Outfits planned!

- Summer (realistically May to September where I live); Can't wait to enjoy the warmth and sun and reprieve from RA symptoms and clear skin and increased energy and daily swimming that summer brings!

- Bisalp surgery (August); I am finally going to get off depo and take myself out of the running for pregnancy permanently!

- Halloween (October); Always my favorite time of year

I feel like I'm setting myself a lot of goals here but I have a lot I want to do! And if some of it doesn't happen, well. At least it wasn't for lack of trying!

I am really glad I did this because I didn't realize how much I had to look forward to this year.

Also while I’m on a rant I’ve started to rewatch teen wolf, and maybe it’s because I’m older now but I’ve realised Lydia didn’t deserve Stiles!

I used to love Stiles/Lydia will they won’t they dynamic until mid season five when I just went off the idea and when they finally kissed I was a bit meh? If that makes sense😂 I just felt they had both changed so much and they would have been better off as good friends

2. What character(s) do you find the most difficult to write for? Why?

Interesting question! For TVD, the one I probably find Stefan the hardest to write for. Just in the sense of him being more... almost deeply poetic? I was going to say brooding, but it's not completely true, and while Stefan does have lighter parts to him where he does allow himself to joke around and just be happy, it's still done with a certain tone to it that can be a little tricky for me to capture.

For Teen Wolf, truth be told, it's Scott. Stiles' dry wit and sarcasm and general energetic voice can be easy to get down, but Scott's a lot more grounded in a way, and thinks about things in a very different way to the rest of the characters. It's his way of seeing things in the gray area rather than wholly black and white, I think. Not to say that the rest of them are flat, it's just that Scott's way of thinking and general attitude takes a little more thought while writing him.

15. What is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?

Recently? It would honestly have to be a tumblr inbox prompt which I titled "I now pronounce you..." and was a Lord John/Brianna (Outlander) fic. I was surprised by how wrapped up in their emotions and heads I got, especially as I hadn't written for them individually before, so getting their characterization down was a lot of fun for me.

Overall? It would still have to be "The Gemini Coven." It is still the longest fic I've written and remains to be the only one I've put that much thought and effort into planning before actually writing it. Crossing over all three TVDU shows and throwing in so many characters was such a challenge and I enjoyed every second of it.

34. Have you felt emotional while writing a scene before? What scene was it?

Oh god yes. Many times. When I first got into writing fics properly, I did this short little one about Stiles dying in season 4 and Scott by his hospital bed, saying goodbye to him, and I was just in tears the entire time. There was a scene in a Clint meets Yelena fic where she confronts him about Natasha's death, and Clint is blaming himself. One where Wanda sees an alternate version of Pietro mid-battle. Tracy and Crash saying goodbye to each other on Tracy's final day at the care home. Literally any emotional scene in any fic of mine, assume I was crying while writing it.

The Vampire Diaries, Ep. 1x10

The Turning Point

this is a somewhat boring name for an episode, but it gains some meaning when you do a quick peruse of air dates and learn that this is the last episode before the mid-season break! is what i would say if this were a normal american tv show, but i must instead say that this is the last episode before the first mid-season break because there are two.

we start this episode very excitingly! it's melissa mccill! i love melissa mccill! she's the best character in teen wolf! she has the best track record of episode mvp awards of any character! i wonder how many episodes she'll appear in because i think she's amazing! oh... she's dead.

then, damon makes a quip about trying out for the amazing race. to which i say, 'i would pay good money to see them do the amazing race.' unfortunately, this turn of events seems unlikely. anyway, the brothers are blocked from the amazing race by learning that there's another vampire in town. (which they know because my beloved melissa mccall has been killed.)

damon finds out where fucking newsboy is (by coercing caroline into helping) and then goes to confront him. luckily, he gets shot like ten times by wooden bullets! it was a very cathartic moment for me because i hate damon. i wrote 'hell yeah!' in my notes. with the exclamation point.

after damon and fucking newsboy's confrontation, we learn about the main plot of the episode: career day! this is a classic vampire situation! what's my line from season two of buffy is a wonderful two-parter! i'm so excited!

unfortunately, we are not delving into the true power of career day on a vampire show, but we do get to hear stefan talk about his past, where he's apparently earned many many degrees, in a variety of subjects. elena used to want to be a writer, but since hasn't felt the same since her mom died. to borrow a line from a different (better) vampire show, 'when i look into the future, all i see is you.' (buffy summers to angel, buffy the vampire slayer 2x12 bad eggs)

back at the school, fucking newsboy takes caroline home, proving that she is a vampire magnet. (obviously, he's just trying to get a rise out of her mother.) also, fuck face is back. we spend some time with the mayor for the first time and learn that the mayor is a piece of shit. this means that both fuck face's parents are horrible, and it makes me feel a bit bad for calling him fuck face. not bad enough to stop, obviously. then, it is heavily implied that fuck face is a werewolf. which would make me very excited. and also make me stop calling him fuck face.

then, elena has her best moment yet: 'you don't get to make that decision for me. if you walk away, it's for you, because i know what i want. stefan, i love you.' elena has stepped up to the plate. she's making a decision, finally! she is claiming her agency, sticking to her guns, taking a stand. i have been begging for this since the show began, and it's finally here. of course, the thing she is standing for is her right to date stefan, not literally anything else. but, beggars can't be choosers.

after elena's big moment, she goes into stefan's house with him, and it becomes clear that they are going to have sex. then, there's another what's my line scene! stefan starts to vamp out and turns away. elena pulls him back to her because she's not afraid of his vampire nature and she truly loves him. awwwww

after they have sex, elena finds the picture of katherine that has been sitting on stefan's table the entire time (because he's a creep.) she takes off the necklace (bad move) and runs out of the house to her car. then, she drives away until she runs into a dark figure on a country road and flips the car. then, she hangs there, watching as the figure's bones knit back together and it stands again. that's a vampire. hard cut.

before i'm done with this episode, i have to talk about ht (history teacher [alaric saltzmann]). he kills fucking newsboy, who doesn't recognize him, throwing confusion on my theory from last episode. fucking newsboy has clearly met his sire, who told him about the vampires in the vault. he wouldn't know that katherine's down there unless he heard from a vampire, right? but he didn't recognize ht. i am feeling very confused about this whole thing.

Arden Cho (Teen Wolf), Momona Tamada (The Baby-Sitters Club), and Simon Chin (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) have joined the cast of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series!

Three new cast members have been revealed! After a lot of speculation (especially for Momona Tamada, who has been rumored for multiple roles since last summer) these three castings can finally be confirmed. (Source for Arden and Simon: Knight Edge Media, which I was able to confirm as well; source for Momona: Avatar News)

The characters they’ll be playing are currently unknown (but I personally think a lot of people’s guesses have been pretty likely 👀).

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 is currently filming through mid-June (extended from the previous estimate of May).
