love (TW: SH)
when is it my turn
to write of the fantastical bliss
that love seems to bring
everyone but me?
how old it gets
to express my agony
while bleeding from my knuckles
i patch up the wall
like i patch up the letters of your name
engraved into my skin
obsession is not love
the love i’ve known is cruel like a blizzard
skin turning blue from the cold
every layer of my dermis freezes
until my nerves no longer burn
shock sets in and i feel no more pain
this can’t be the love
that people write about

It might be lonelier
Without the Loneliness —
I'm so accustomed to my Fate —
Perhaps the Other — Peace —
Would interrupt the Dark —
And crowd the little Room —
Too scant — by Cubits — to contain
The Sacrament — of Him —
I am not used to Hope —
It might intrude upon —
Its sweet parade — blaspheme the place —
Ordained to Suffering —
It might be easier
To fail — with Land in Sight —
Than gain — My Blue Peninsula —
To perish — of Delight —
Emily Dickinson, "It might be lonelier," from The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson

Tell all the truth but tell it slant -
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind -

Contained in this short Life
Are magical extents
The soul returning soft at night
To steal securer thence
As Children strictest kept
Turn soonest to the sea
Whose nameless Fathoms slink away
Beside infinity
