Roomies band au
C!Cleo gives the energy of someone who has the singing voice of a god, but will unintentionally destroy any instrument they touch, while C!Etho gives the energy of someone who can play any instrument known to man with varying levels of successfulness while still being decent at all of them, but can't sing to save his life, so I propose this: a band au where they make little songs and such in their garage together.
Grian would get dragged into editing everything for them simply because he lives with them and they don't want to do it themselves. He especially hates editing anything Etho has created because his stuff, every single instrumental ever, is so much more to edit than Cleo's vocals.
They would post their songs on a YouTube channel Grian set up for them after Cleo bullied Etho into letting her.
All of their songs become emo the moment Etho gets his hands on them and Cleo allows it without resistance.
One of their songs is a platonic love/rant song Etho wrote about Joel and he always says that it can be about anything the listener wants it to, or makes a stupidly complicated story for what it's actually about, but it's really just about Joel and Etho can't lie about it. It's probably called "Neck Kisses" or something to match Joel's Spotify playlist. Of course, Cleo bullies him into releasing it since it unironically goes hard. (Think "You Stupid B!tch" by Girl In Red, but with less romantic undertones.)
The second Bdubs finds out about their little band/duo thing, he goes completely feral. He immediately becomes their #1 fan, makes merch for them and begs them to show him unreleased songs. I can't decide if it's actually because he loves their music or if he just wants to be supportive.
Joel, on the other hand, finds out about it and lovingly hates on them. Not publicly or anything and not really to Cleo - it's mostly just him making fun of Etho, so really just the usual for them. He calls himself their de-hype man nonetheless.
The merch Bdubs makes is surprisingly high quality for hand-made stuff, mostly consisting of shirts and jumpers decorated with song lyrics and names and maybe a few socks and some custom kazoos. He and Grian team up to make them an official merch website.
I like the idea of them just being like a small indie band that appreciates every like and nice comment they get, so Etho has some kind of heart attack when they hit a hundred subscribers. Of course, Bdubs convinces/forces them to celebrate the, albeit small, achievement and invites everyone even vaguely involved, so it's just Cleo, Etho, Grian, Bdubs and Joel cramped inside of Cleo, Etho and Grian's garage, drinking and eating snacks together and having a marathon of every bad horror movie they can find.
They also have a friendly rivalry with "Gem and the Scotts", (since someone commented that and I loved the idea) but don't really focus too much on rivalries since half of the band (Etho) is too busy obsessing over their de-hype man.
Thinking about it now, they probably started by making covers of songs made by bands like Paramore and Twenty-One Pilots, probably some Panic! At The Disco as well. Then Cleo came up with a song about something going on in their life and asked Etho to do the instrumentals for it. Asking him to do backup vocals for her taught them that he was awful at singing since he outright refused, leading to them teaming up to create the actual band.
They're one of those alternative/indie emo bands - like Fall Out Boy and such.
I have no idea what their band name would be- it could be something simple, like just "The roomies", but I feel like they wouldn't want to leave Grian out since he isn't actually in the band. Maybe he could play the kazoo or something??
I enjoy imagining Bdubs asking about what Etho does in the band since he has never thought about him being musically talented and Cleo just takes him into Etho's room - it's filled with different instruments and merch of different bands, like they all have their own special spaces and stands. Bdubs is flabbergasted.
Despite their friendly rivalry with "Gem and the Scotts", they don't really interact with them tons because Joel has this weird hatred for Scott that he has never ever explained - No one can ask about it either since he'll just start to angrily mutter names under his breath. Cleo has deduced that it must be because of something that happened in high school, but nobody knows much more than that, except Bdubs who keeps his lips firmly sealed. (Thank another comment for this.)
I feel like if they ever managed to play at a concert or go on tour or anything like that, they'd both have very contradicting outfits. Like, Cleo would probably go all out in some Chappel-Roan-inspired outfit, makeup and all, while Etho is just stood their in some baggy shorts, a Naruto shirt and his comfort jacket. I think that'd be funny.
OMG if they ever played out, they'd get Joel to be their drummer!! So Etho doesn't have to pre-record too much stuff!! He'd probably only do it if they bribed him lol. Maybe Etho offers to go to the cinema with him or something lol /j.
I've been thinking about what their favourite artists and stuff would be - for inspiration and just in general. Etho has mentioned irl that he used to listen to Paramour and Green Day and stuff and I feel like that carries into his character, but why do I feel like he's a riot grrrl enjoyer? And why do I feel like Cleo would listen to GRLwood??

schrucy songs. if you even care
since other schrucy nation ppl were doing it i wanna do it too.
this doesn't have any classical songs bc i don't really listen to classical at all. sorry schroeder. featuring select lyrics from each song
just what i needed - the cars
this song is simple and straightforward and could be applied to a lot of ships in a general sense but the reason it sticks out as a schrucy song to me is the insistence that the singer ENJOYS having this other person stick around and bug them and so on and so forth. schroeder POV obviously. echoes of the van pelt moving arc are here. also the line “i needed someone to bleed” god. idk where to begin unpacking that with them but its lots of fun. something something their best match is always gonna be someone who they can be a bit of a cunt around
i don’t mind you coming here / and wasting all my time
i guess you’re just what i needed / i needed someone to feed / i guess you’re just what i needed / i needed someone to bleed
i think you're alright - jay som
if i had to pick only 3 songs to attach to schrucy, this would be one of them for sure. my GOD i don’t even know where to begin. schroeder POV again. the blood on the concrete line referencing lucy’s hotheaded nature... maybe after a fistfight with a 3rd party. saying that someone is pretty, then that their smile is unforgiving; two contrasting statements at first glance. and then “i’ll place it where nobody can find” in reference to that same smile. this 100% reads as a song about someone being in love with someone who is mean and abrasive, but the singer still treasures them. and THEN, after all that praise, the singer’s just like “yeah you’re okay i guess” which is SO funny and good. idk man. just listen to it. if you get it you get it.
and god, you’re so pretty / your smile’s unforgiving / i’ll place it where nobody can find / i’ll play all your favorite songs
build me up buttercup - the foundations
this one’s a lucy POV and its pretty straightforward.... this is one of the most canon-compliant songs on this list. i don’t feel the need to elaborate too much its just a fun bop about an unrequited crush (or is it...)
although you’re untrue / i’m attracted to you all the more
she's always a woman - billy joel
of COURSE this song was gonna make this list. was there ever any doubt??? this is THE schrucy song. the amount of respect and understanding and ADMIRATION the singer has for this woman that sounds like a nightmare to deal with is INCREDIBLE. he talks about her flaws the same way you’d expect him to talk about her graces. this reads to me like a married, adult schrucy, who are very much settled into their lives and are in that stage where there’s not many surprises from either of them but they’re just cozy with each other
she never gives out / and she never gives in / she just changes her mind
she’ll bring out the best and the worst you can be / blame it all on yourself / cause she’s always a woman to me
ringtone - 100 gecs
YES i am putting a 100 gecs song on this list. if it fits IT FITS. we get both POVs this time! i think the original is kind of alluding to a breakup or something negative, but i’m choosing to make it about unresolved feelings for my own purposes. of COURSE a modern lucy would give schroeder a custom ringtone and be overjoyed whenever she hears it. schroeder hearing the ring that he has set for lucy on HIS phone and feeling sick because he’s realized that he likes her now. etc etc. anyway this song is fun and i like
it’s my way of trying to let you know / i’ve got a little thing for you / i’ve got a little crush or somethin’
mastermind - taylor swift
this song is so damn lucy it HURTS. once she and schroeder get together she’s probably very annoying (affectionate) about it and is like “I planned this all along >:)” and the mention of people not liking her so she has to actively manipulate the situation to make them like her???? ITS SO GOOD!!
no one wanted to play with me as a little kid / so i’ve been scheming like a criminal ever since
and i swear / i’m only cryptic and machiavellian cause i care
how to embrace a swamp creature - the mountain goats
this one’s a bit of a stretch but this is my list not yours. this could be from either of their POVs tbh... schroeder while he’s preparing to confess how he feels? lucy while she tries to grapple with the fact that her feelings are finally requited after so long? theyr’e both SUCH complex and messy characters and their relationship is no different. it takes them a while to stop feeling so strange, even if it is a good strange
i try to tell you just why i’ve come / it’s like i’ve got molasses on my tongue
end of post. no i will not put this under a cut. read my post boy

Reviewing and ranking Billy Joel's albums and thoughts on his discography.
My favorite album is The Stranger followed up by 52nd Street in 2nd place and Glass Houses in 3rd (and An Innocent Man being 4th if you want to count that in as well).
From the album The Stranger my favorite songs would have to be The Stranger (great lyrics with an awesome flair and sound to it), Scenes From An Italian Restaurant (because who doesn't love a great story and a great song right??), and of course if I had to choose one last song from The Stranger album it would definitely be She's Always a Woman (in my opinion a very vulnerable and naked song with a great sense of warmth and musical representation of chivalry), so in summary for The Stranger - The Stranger, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, and She's Always a Woman.
Next for the album I followed up with for my favorites that I ranked #2 called 52nd Street, my first favorite is definitely My Life (a fun and punchy song with a great beat and an almost comedic sense of timing within the rhythm of the song in my opinion, solid song with great lyrics also), 52nd Street (great instrumental sound with jazzy overtones and really is a pillar of the album representing the style you would expect with the name as well as the cover of the album in my opinion), lastly I would have to say Big Shot (different song from a lot of the others on this album, very unique and obnoxious sound which the band as well as Billy Joel pulled off perfectly in the best way possible) so in summary for 52nd Street - My Life, 52nd Street, and Big Shot.
As for Glass Houses my first favorite is You May Be Right (some people find this one a bit "corny" but I almost look at this song as like a cult classic for music..just a song you could put on with your girlfriend or boyfriend and you can just jam out as well as getting a kick out of it with the comedic purpose in some of the lyrics), next song is It's Still Rock And Roll To Me (this song to me was very much a blue collar Bruce Springsteen-esque sort of sound to me which I found almost had it's own kind of charm and a is very much a beloved classic rock song in my book), and with this last one we have Sleeping With The Television On (I LOVED this song, very catchy with good lyrics and an awesome beat that almost reminded me of a classic rock version of We Got The Beat with how the rhythm goes, only with more guitars and a male singer), so overall in summary we got - You May Be Right, It's Still Rock And Roll To Me, and Sleeping With The Television On.
Lastly for 4th we got An Innocent Man with my first song being Easy Money (fun and easy tune to listen to with very digestible/entertaining lyrics, solid song, good beat), Careless Talk (this song in my opinion gave me very much a "musical" Little Shop Of Horrors kind of vibe due to the timing of the beats and Billy Joel's vocals and I loved it, this was around a solid 7- 8/10 song for me personally), lastly I would say An Innocent Man (not my favorite but still okay, but a favorite for others due to Billy Joel's operatic vocals with decent lyrics), so in summary - Easy Money, Careless Talk, and An Innocent Man.
My favorite overall song out of all of Billy Joel's songs is Piano Man due to the raw lyrics, vocals, and overall sense of belonging in the song as well as the song just being kick ass of course lol!
Some other gems I would throw in would be River Of Dreams and Just The Way You are and of course We Didn't Start The Fire on the Storm Front album (also the last thing I want to add is if you haven't seen Scenes From An Italian Restaurant or Piano Man live on YouTube definitely look it up, you won't regret it).

The Akatsuki at Karaoke Night
Being a group of insatiable killers is hard work, even in the best of circumstances. Like anybody else, the Akatsuki is constantly seeking out ways to unwind and de-stress during their off time. One day Konan goes out and comes back excited; a local tavern hosts a karaoke night every week. The others are reluctant at first, but this quickly becomes one of their new favorites pastimes. Drinking, eating, singing; what could be more fun than that?
Deidara
Has to be really drunk to get up on stage and sing. Like, incredibly drunk. Like how-is-he-still-standing-drunk. When in this state, there’s one song that he’ll sing and one song only: “I’m A Barbie Girl.” Nobody in the Akatsuki knows why he chooses this particular song, but everyone has to admit that it suits him. He’ll take his hair out of his ponytail and have it cascading down his back, he’ll tie up his shirt in a front knot, and, if she’s wearing them, will borrow Konan’s heels to wear. And he’ll always try and drag Sasori on stage with him to sing the parts of Ken (C’mon, Danna! You’re literally like a doll, hm!), but Sasori will only comply if he’s in a really good mood/there’s not that many people around. Despite his intoxication he’ll actually sing beautifully, so much so that he’ll receive requests for encores; which he’ll do, until the booze catches up with him and he falls head-first off the stage and into someone’s (usually Tobi’s) lap. Won’t remember a thing the next day and feverishly insist that he’s never even heard of “some weird Barbie song”.
EDIT:: After days of this being on my mind I can also believe that Deidara would sing “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood(?) and stare directly at Sasori the entire time even though they’re not really dating they‘re “in a situation” and even though if they WERE dating Sasori isn’t the cheating kind but he’s listening to the lyrics and noting how intensely Deidara is singing it and his face is just 😳
Sasori
He only goes because the others insist that he does. Honestly, this guy has a severe allergy to anything Fun. Chances are he’ll bring one of his puppets with him to work on/modify. He mostly refuses to get on stage and sing any songs of his own, BUT he’ll use his chakra strings to control his puppet and have it dance along on stage to a song of his choosing, that he has one of the other members sing for the puppet (giving them a taste of ventriloquism). The song he likes his performers to do most frequently is “Dancing With Myself” by Billy Joel; this must be his favorite song because he always silently mouths along to it as it plays. If literally nobody else is there besides the rest of the Akatsuki, he sometimes “makes” Deidara join him for a duet; he’s particularly fond of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John, although he and Deidara always fight over who sings the part of the girl.
Tobi
It’s dangerous to let Tobi sing in front of people. Not because he’s bad at it, but because ... he’s good. Startlingly good. His voice changes completely from a goofy childish timbre, to very deep, and smooth, and mellow. There are sea legends about sailors being lured to their deaths by the songs of sirens, and the same principle seems to be at work here. Waitresses will drop their trays, people walking will run face-first into each other, and the area around the stage will be packed with men and women alike trying to get as close as possible to him. The fact that he sounds like that but won’t make his mask off makes him even more mysterious and alluring. His song of choice? “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers; which brings tears (and swooning) to the eyes and minds of anyone who hears him. After the song it’s like someone flips a switch, and he goes back to the weirdo that the Akatsuki knows and tolerates, seemingly completely oblivious to the chaos his singing caused. He also enjoys having drinks with his Senpai, as the alcohol makes the blonde much more friendly towards Tobi than he usually is; however he can’t keep up with the amount of booze Deidara can put away, and he feels sleepy after just a few beers.
Hidan
As with most group outings, he’ll complain about thinking everything is stupid. His religion prohibits the consumption of alcohol, so he’ll occupy himself with eating lots of food and “lovingly” heckling his fellow Akatsuki members when they get up on stage. Once in a blue moon he can be persuaded to get up and sing himself, although again this is a complete rarity. He has no real music preferences and will usually just flip through the available choices until he finds something he knows the lyrics to. Tries to pick songs with a lot of swearing in it, which he won’t bother to bleep out and will instead scream out at the top of his lungs (which often results in the whole group being threatened with getting kicked out). Sometimes, though, when he’s in a more mellow state of mind ((a rarity for Hidan)) he’ll get the urge to do a duet (because that takes the pressure off of everyone staring only at him) and can convince Konan to go up with him. Their rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” always brings the room to its feet, and gets them thunderous applause. After the song Konan will blush and kiss his cheek, which Hidan pretends to act embarrassed about (but is secretly thrilled by). His favorite song to do solo, however, is “Sympathy For The Devil” by The Rolling Stones, which he ... really ... gets into.
Kakuzu
Mostly comes out with the others as a sort of chaperone; making sure they get home safe after drinking, and trying to prevent them from blowing all their money on the “outrageously priced” food and drinks. Karaoke isn’t really his thing, and neither is being on stage in front of people. However if he’s in a decent mood, and there aren’t that many people around, he can be persuaded to get up and sing. He sings the most amazing rendition of “Ain’t No Grave (Can Hold My Body Down)” by Johnny Cash; his deep gravelly voice and slow speaking pitch are absolutely perfect for it, giving everyone listening goosebumps. Kakuzu is also a skilled guitar player, and sometimes he will sit on stage and play the guitar bits of certain songs for other Akatsuki members singing, “But I’m taking my fees out of your next paycheck.”
Zetsu
Surprisingly, this is one activity that the plant-man enjoys engaging in with the others. He’s not much of an alcohol drinker, and “human” food isn’t really his thing, either; but he loves to hear the others do their best at singing. It takes a lot to get Zetsu up on the stage himself, but when he does, he’s a fairly decent singer. He’s able to change the pitch of his voice quite effortlessly, so that it intend sounds as if two people are singing, instead of one. His song of choice is a long one: “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. It takes a lot f stamina to get through this, but Zetsu always finds that half the time he can’t even hear his own voice with this one, as everyone in the place sings with him (because seriously, who alive doesn’t know this song?). But it’s not all fun and games; Zetsu will always be scoping out the crowd, discerning who the most intoxicated people are. He’ll lure these poor souls into the alley out back, and gave himself a tasty little snack. He tries his hardest not to let the others catch him doing this, though, as this is supposed to be a fun and stress-free night for all involved.
Konan and Pein
This whole thing was her idea, yet, unless it’s a duet with one of the others, she’s very reluctant to try and sing on her own. Thinks her voice is “nails on a chalkboard”, although everyone vehemently disagrees with this perspective. Never has to bring any money with her to the bar, because all of the boys will take turns buying her food and drinks. She goes crazy for fries of any kind, and can eat carloads of these alone. Konan is exceptionally beautiful, and she will be mercilessly hit on from the moment she walks in until they all leave. Well, not always — the boys ALSO like to take turns acting as Konan’s bodyguard, and protecting her from anyone who tries to come within three feet of her. They hide their more vicious tendencies for when Konan’s not paying attention, because they know she wants a relaxing evening, but still: there’s been quite a number of guys escorted out of the bar by Kisame and Hidan, that mysteriously never return. When persuaded to sing, almost anything she chooses will be an Amy Winehouse song, as this is her favorite artist. Her favorite song is “Wake Up Alone”, which moves her fellow teammates (Pein included) to tears. Joins Kakuzu as helper to make sure everyone gets home safe and sound. Pein doesn’t like singing, and does not want to sing ... but Konan always manages to convince him to be a good sport at some point in the evening. But the song he picks is disappointingly predictable: “Pain” by Three Days Grace. Expected, maybe ... but he puts real heart and soul into his rendition, nearly falling off the stage with his enthusiasm. As with all group outings, Nagato loves to experience everything through the Pein-body’s eyes, and spend time with this makeshift family of his.
Kisame
One of the biggest drinkers, but something (perhaps his half-animalness) makes it near impossible for him to be totally drunk, no matter how much alcohol he consumes. Sometimes he’ll make a deal with Kakuzu: Kakuzu will scope out other drunks in the place, inform Kisame of their whereabouts, and Kisame will hustle them for money in either drinking contests or pool games. He’ll split the money with the old guy, making both happy. When it comes to the karaoke aspect, Kisame doesn’t really like singing, or being in front of a crowd; but decides to be a good sport and do a song lIke the others. He can sing almost anything (he has a wide vocal range), but he really seems to favor love ballads. His favorite is November Rain by Guns n Roses, and the rest of the Akatsuki is shocked at how damn soulful he sounds singing it. If not singing or hustling drunks, he likes to spend some quiet time with Itachi, buying him snacks and coaxing the thin ((TOO thin, in Kisame’s opinion)) young man to eat.
Itachi
Is quiet and shy by nature, so naturally things like karaoke bars aren’t really his deal. But Kisame always insists that it’s good for him to get out ((out of the hideout and out of his head)) and socialize once in a while, so he goes. It’s the same deal as Konan, almost, where women flock to him and hit on him for nearly the entire duration of his visit. However, the group doesn’t act as a collective bodyguard for him, as the majority of them feel like he’d be better off, as Hidan delicately puts it, “If the fucker just got laid.” But Itachi doesn’t seem interested in anything like this; he’s polite to those who approach him, but so closed-off that eventually they give up. When one particularly persistent woman wouldn’t leave him alone, Itachi resorted to grabbing the person nearest him (who happened to be Deidara) and telling the admirer that he was his boyfriend. He even put his arm around the guy’s waist, squeezing him. Deidara went along with it, but after the woman left he angrily informed Itachi that he’d “blow your ass up if you ever try something like that again, hm!” That’s what he SAYS, but it should be noted that he blushes quite hard for some time afterwards. Itachi was only ever convicted to go up and sing one time, and it was a duet with Kisame. The song was “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie. At the end of the song, Kisame was beaming, and Itachi had more admirers than ever clamoring for his attention. Not used to late nights so if they’re out past midnight will usually fall asleep sitting at the bar, and be carried home (and put into bed) by Kisame.

Hc: Sybilus plays the piano!
YESYESYESYESYESYESYES
- Absolutely he does
- I mean, this is an AJ character we're talking about
- I'm surprised he didn't play the piano in the middle of Wayward Guide tbh
- but hear me out
- there's more
- So I'm a musician, and I'm studying music post-secondary
- Which means I've had to do a *lot* of justifying my career choice
- To the point where I actually have done a *lot* of research
- And one of the great things about music that no one talks about is that music can greatly aid in social development
- Like, on a very mental level, the act of playing music can help you interact better with the people around you and open up more socially.
- So I imagine that Sybilus' parents read the article about that and sign him up for piano lessons
- Because Sybilus self-isolates a lot
- He's afraid of what people will think of his stutter
- But once he starts playing the piano, he does start to get better socially
- And also better at the piano
- He's got a bit of a natural knack for it
- And he pours his heart into every song
- It becomes super meaningful for him.
- Because especially for him... music becomes a second language.
- One that surpasses words
- One that surpasses his stutter
- One that he could communicate clearly through.
- he kinda becomes known in the town for his piano playing
- I feel like he'd be a classical kid.
- Like, he's probably *adore* Chopin Nocturnes and some of Beethoven's later, moodier sonatas.
- OOO AND SCHUBERT
- THIS MAN WOULD LOVE SCHUBERT
- He's very good at Mozart, but Mozart's a bit of an on-and-off composer for him when it comes to pieces he enjoys playing
- He can play Bach Fugues, but god... he kinda hates them
- He likes the preludes though
- He'd have a lot of fun with some Joplin or Gershwin rags
- Anyways, he's like *really* good
- He excels quickly because he puts the time in
- Like, this man will play for literal six hour increments and just lose himself
- Because music will never tease him
- Music will always be his friend
- And it turns out music is a pretty great conversation starter.
- He didn't like performing at first.
- Until he started playing and everyone's jaws just d r o p p e d
- And people started talking to him
- Like, seeking him out to talk about his piano playing
- It really helped to ease him into being more social
- And also more willing to share and contribute to his community
- He didn't choose music as a career because he didn't want to travel
- He had his home and the family of people he'd built there
- But music did encourage him to join town council
- Share his ideas and contribute there.
- It really did help him to grow and learn to love himself.
- Music is magical like that
- (Even though technically it's actual psychology and not magic... but I think there's a little extra magic thrown in there."
- Other instruments Syb might also play: Clarinet, Saxophone (all three but he mains tenor), Acoutic Guitar (mostly classical), Cello, and he might also sing classical/ theatrical music.
- I feel like he'd be nervous to sing at first
- Because of his stutter
- But actually having a rhythm to stick to and a set of pre-established lyrics really helps him
- He sings and plays the piano all the time.
- Someone once called him "Elton John" once and while that isn't quite his style of playing he was very flattered
- He's a bit more of a Billy Joel, but softer
- And of course (I know I went on a lot about him playing classical but) he'd play tons of jazz too
- Improvising on the piano and the saxophone is a whole emotional journey for him
- But the spontanaeity of it all and the whole act of embreacing the moment actually winded up helping him with his stutter!
- It helped him to feel a bit more prepared, even when having to communicate spontaneous thought- which meant he stuttered a bit less.
- Wow where was I going with this???
- Right. Sybilus and music
- It may not be his job but it is super important to him.
- Am I projecting? Yes.
- But am I also right? yes and no one can convince me otherwise.
Thank you so much for this request I had no clue how much I needed this Sybilus is my comfort dork-

First Dance Since 1943
Character: James Bucky Barnes
Tumblr media
Inspired by (song): I still don’t remember it, actually 😬
Pairing: Bucky Barnes/ Fem!StarkScientist Reader
Warnings: Fluff. Dancing at Work. Insecurities. Jokes. Memories.
Author's Note: Hello!!! I hope you're ok today ❤️.
First of all, thanks you for all the replies on my last Fics! Really that is very appreciated 😍
This fic was the first that I ve write with Bucky when the series came out, so... This was the first steps of my new (lost) love about Bucky (And Sebastian too)
I hope you like this one!!!
XOXO ❤️
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
- Leslie - He raised his head as soon as he heard Joaquín's voice and gave him a smile when he saw him poke his head through the door of my office, even though it is transparent - I bring Sam with me so you can take a look at Redwing.
- It will be my pleasure - I mutter as I type a quick reply to Agent Johnson about the malfunction of Agent Sousa's new pistol. Men who come from bygone ages have serious problems with modern technology - How can I help you?
He looked up from the laptop and my eyes meet that sad look that my dreams seemed to reflect conscientiously. The owner of those blue eyes and painful memories sees me with a hint of a smile while his partner holds Redwing as if I were going to touch him just to detonate him.
- I want it to be clear that I let you intervene with him only because Torres made it clear to me that you worked for Stark.
I give a laugh that reflects my nervousness as I turn to Bucky.
- Sergeant Barnes.
- Hey. How have you been, Leslie? - The way my name sounds in his voice, which is seductive without even looking for it makes him feel that my legs melt like jelly at those words.
- Busy with so much work - I reach out to Sam making a mental note of how good that blue shirt looks on Bucky and coming to the conclusion that men who come from 1940 like the color blue - What is it? What it's the problem?
- The laser was decalibrated. I wanted to repair it but it was impossible.
- If you let me examine it, at most I will have it ready in a couple of hours - The soldier nods somewhat suspiciously but takes a step back as soon as I take that small device. - The dream of any woman, to fix one of the many work items of the Avengers.
Sam laughs as he begins to explain that he is no longer part of the Avengers as many believe. To all this, Bucky, as I allow myself to call him in my thoughts, is in silence, leaning against one of the many glass walls of the room, looking out of the building and I do not doubt for a second when I believe that he was not paying attention in the least to our conversation.
Joaquín's voice interrupts my thoughts and from the smile he brings, I know that every time he meets these two men, he considers himself one of the luckiest beings in the universe.
- Excuse me, Sam - The two men turn around as I turn the little drone and see the typical signs that this prototype of Stark technology is very poorly maintained. I make a mental note not to say that to Sam and concentrate on fixing the laser as I hear them being called from "Higher Spheres" as I call high-ranking Air Force people - They need you, there's a new report on the mission in Libya.
- Take good care of him, Leslie - I nodded smiling without looking up and muttered a "Better than you, sure" that was only audible to me.
If there was one thing he hated about Stark technologies, it was that, in addition to having the F.R.I.D.A.Y tech matrix, and without it, he couldn't do much more than touch some cables and hope the little drone would work. And i prayed that would work, otherwise i would have to ask Pepper for permission to use her facilities, but Sam would flatly refuse to take Redwing to Stark Industries.
- He screwed it up, didn't he?
I jerked my head up when I heard Bucky's voice and when I looked at him, he was still in the same position as before, looking outside the building.
- I thought you had left with Sam ...
- Excuse me, I did not want to scare you - He approached the table where i was working and indicated the drone with his metal arm, which he no longer hid under layers of clothing, much less, leather gloves - He treats that drone very badly .
- Sorry?
- Do you think that murmur was imperceptible only for you? I assure you that Sam heard it too- I cursed as he dropped the tools i had in my hands and covered my face with both, wishing that the earth would open and swallow me, as a minimum option.
- Why didn't you go with Sam? and please do not get me wrong, I like the company and I like that you are here, but it is simple curiosity - I cursed myself internally as I listened over and over again to the words that I had said aloud and I wanted the earth to pity me again and swallow me. Definitely Joaquín's idea of just nodding and not talking was an excellent idea to implement.
Had I told him out loud that I liked him being there? Oh my God…
- This is Sam's land, I don't fit in here.
- And yet, here you are - I take Redwing and walk to the testing room of the laboratory that is adjacent to my office, where the music begins to play as soon as I enter the small room and as much as I want to deactivate it, I can not do it. I resign myself as soon as I hear Bucky's footsteps behind me and as soon as he enters the room, it seems too small with him there. I put the drone on the long metal table that occupies a large part of it and I type the password in the auxiliary panel of one of the screens around me and the little drone turns on, taking flight a few meters above our heads - At least It leaves me happy that I still fly with all those blows.
- I'm surprised that it's still whole - Bucky's murmur makes me laugh as I calibrate the laser to shoot the target in front of him. I try to shoot but nothing happens. I curse silently as I see from the corner of my eye that the man cautiously observes the room, as he stops when the first melodies of “She's got a Way” by Billy Joel begin to play- Do you like the music of the 20th century?
- I'll tell you the truth: I don't like current music, I prefer the lyrics of 1980s artists where they say heartfelt things rather than the lyrics that speak about certain topics in a very direct way. 1980 was a very good time, maybe you would like it.
- I have a list of songs on Spotify that I listened to in the 40's. I thought I couldn't find them again - The hint of melancholy that invades his voice makes for a moment that I wanted to meet that 23-year-old young man who should be very different from the one in front of me, with a totally different way of being and without all the suffering that would happen later - What if, that was when I learned to use a computer.
- You know, you would get along with Agent Sousa from SWORD - He turned at the mention of the new agency with a frown, clearly annoyed at the idea of interacting with another agency. - He's just like you, technically speaking.
- He went through psychological torture and became a Hydra assassin? -The sincerity and ease with which those words came out of his mouth made my eyes fill with tears. The pain in his voice made my words sound clearly wrong in that conversation.
- No ... He also comes from an ancient time, like you and Steve. Only Daniel was taken out of 1955 because of Agent Coulson and his feeling of not being able to let him die in front of his eyes - Bucky nodded as he stood next to me again and watched my movements on the screen trying to get Redwing to respond, something that did not happen - Perhaps it would do them good to chat between the two ... You are not from the same era, but I imagine that their feelings towards this century are similar, and both are adapting. You can get to understand each other more than they think.
- I will keep it in mind…. Thank you, Doll - I felt the heat begin to rise up my neck at that nickname and I assumed that my cheeks must be a scarlet red color, because, despite the fact that it was cold in that room, I felt that I was on fire - I all this is strange, even though I know this technology, it is difficult for me not to relate it to all this - Unconsciously, he touches his metal arm and I let out a sigh. I'd like to know how to help him get through that, but I don't know how to do it without bringing up bad memories.
- Is there something you like?
- What are you talking about? - I put aside the PADD I had in my hands and touched the "Stand By" button for Redwing to return to his original position in the center of the table.
- Sometimes, learning becomes easier when there is something you like - I lean on the table while he remains silent and I watch him waiting for his answer, but all I get is a smile about something he is thinking - What makes you smile?
- Dance. I haven't danced in a long time. Since 1943, to be exact - He leans on the other end of the table, facing me exactly and gives me a look with a flash of mischief - And I'm not going to those places that they call discos to dance with someone.
I laughed at his tone of indignation, when I could contain my laughter, I saw him watching me with what seemed like affection, but I tried not to give it too much importance, but when I felt that my heart was going to leave my chest so hard it hit my rib cage.
- Why that tone against the discos?
- The music is too loud and there are colored lights that I don't even know what they are called, plus you can't talk to anyone - I laughed again at his complaints that were very sincere and were very similar to mine - Don't make fun of me.
- I do not, I am funny the tone you use. You seem really annoyed with it - Bucky rolls his eyes and taps on the table - What do you miss most about 1940?
- Everything, my family, my friends, my life ... The way I could go to an amusement park and not have to worry about whoever saw me wanted to run out of fear, when I could take a girl on a date without I would worry about my past, dancing with someone, that closeness that made me so comfortable and so relaxing at the same time.
- Well, at least the dance thing can be fixed - I take my iPhone out of my pocket and search the playlist for Eric Clapton's song, Wonderful Tonight and once the notes start to play, I walk over to Bucky, holding out my hand towards him, in an attack of courage, the kind that I don't usually have, but all that was to get a smile from the owner of those beautiful sad eyes - Would you dance this song with me?
Although I notice that my actions catch him off guard, he smiles at me and takes my hand, nodding his head.
When the two of us are standing in front of each other, I realize that I don't know where to put my hands, much less stop to think if that could be uncomfortable for him. I wanted to back away, looking for a good enough excuse before falling into the misfortune of having to apologize to him, but Bucky, who will have simply seen my worried expression, took my free hand and brought it to his forearm, and laid it there gently, While with his right hand he held mine, and with his metal arm, he encircled my waist, drawing me close to him. We began to move slowly to the beat of the music, but he was definitely the one leading the way.
- How does it feel to dance decently again? - I was silent at the inappropriate comment and let out a sigh while I concentrated on trying not to step on it.
- It feels strange to do it after a long time - Bucky ignores my comment or downplays it, but when I look at him, I realize that he is concentrating on remembering the steps and trying to guide the inexperienced woman in front of him.
- To do it a long time ago, you do it very well - He shakes his head, trying not to smile, and before I even knew it, he released one of my hands and made me turn, taking my hand perfectly synchronized at the end of it.
- If Steve were here, I'd say it's innate ability.
- Well, if he makes you feel more comfortable, this is my first time dancing with someone, that is, I dance with a man. And I must admit that I never believed it would be in my workplace.
- Why's that? - I let out a sigh as I watch him at the same time that he looks towards the laboratory door. When he looks back at me, in his blue eyes I can see a flicker of doubt and curiosity.
Anyone could feel safe with my poor social and love life.
- It's weird to dance in your workplace. Everyone here is watching you from the other side of the glass and ...
- I meant because you never danced with anyone - Oh ... I drop my head until it almost touches his chest, but I feel that the pressure of his arm grows stronger around my waist, as if he knows that I am about to fall and I won't notice - I'm sorry if the question bothers you.
- No, no, he doesn't. What happens is that I'm not usually the type of girl who gets asked to dance. Besides, I don't like going to the disco or going out at night. In that respect I am similar to you - I admit while he gives me a smirk - I prefer to stay home and read. Or spend time with my cat.
- Intellectuals are the best - Bucky's voice sounds annoying and safe at the same time, as if something in his own words bothered him.
- But the less interesting for the men of this time apparently, more when they talk a lot about science and current affairs - Between the chords of the music, I get him to laugh. And I must admit, he has a beautiful smile, one of the prettiest I have ever seen, in fact. I start to laugh and in the midst of my laughter, he spins me around again at the same time the song ends.
- Not for me. Are you sure you didn't come out of the 40's like me? - We don't even part, and our hands are still joined as I shake my head.
I smile as I take a step away from him as I pick up my cell phone to stop the music and see him approach the window again.
- No, but I think I was born at the wrong time.
- Thanks for this - his murmur reaches me far away, but with a clear hint of satisfaction in his voice. I smile happy to have served my purpose.
- Thanks to you, at least I have experienced what it feels like to dance with someone.
- You will do it more often, trust me.
- I take the word.
Sam who had arrived at the scene a few minutes before with Torres, smiled as he watched the whole scene and remembered those days when he took advantage of Steve's innocence with women and smiled wistfully when he realized that Bucky was the clear image of his best friend. Seeing him for a moment concentrating on something other than work filled him with satisfaction, perhaps Joaquín's idea of bringing him here hadn't been so bad after all.
Then he would take advantage of letting him know of his observations when the two of them were alone.
I turn towards the door as soon as I hear a series of light knocks and I meet Sam's mischievous smile, who sees me as if he had discovered gold or something much more valuable.
- I'm so sorry to interrupt, but we have work, Buck.
- Sure - Bucky turns to where I am and before he could even move me away, he takes one of my hands and leaves a kiss on it. I can barely contain the sigh that tries to escape from my lips and I simply remain silent, feeling how the color begins to invade my cheeks, in the company of the heat - Thanks for the dance.
- My pleasure, Sergeant Barnes.
Sam, who is behind us, rolls his eyes and leans against the door while Bucky approaches him with a heavy sigh - Don't even think about making jokes about this.
- Did I say something? - I let out a laugh at his comical and ironic tone as Bucky walks past him shaking his head. "See you later, Leslie." I need to make some arrangements on the suit.
- Yes Sir.
Sam glares at me as Torres chuckles at my horrified expression. I forgot he don't like me calling him sir.
- Sorry, Sam.
After a few minutes, I find myself alone again, so I return to the laboratory to work on Redwing and allow myself to release that sigh that I have been holding since Bucky appeared in that room.
That moment had been incredible ... Even if it was only that, a moment that will remain in my head.
I startle as soon as I hear a knock on the door, I take off the receiver and as soon as I turn around, I see that the one at the door is Bucky, who has his left hand hidden behind his back.
- You know, "Sergeant" is very formal - he leaves his left hand exposed and has a white flower on it. I doubt if I approach but I do it feeling that the colors begin to invade my face. No one had never given me flowers. That gesture was beautiful, I take it and I respond with a smile - Call me James.

Did I Take A Step Too Far Part 8
Pairing: Bucky x Reader
Summary:  You and Bucky were best friends, but one night you took your relationship to the next level. You you want to continue moving forward, but Bucky acts like he regrets it, and even tries to move on.
Warnings: just angsty
Tumblr media
You were putting the finishing touches on your makeup when you heard a knock on the door. You quickly walk over and open it to reveal Jeremy. You give him a warm smile as he takes you in. Jeremy is a tall guy with medium build, not too muscley. He has short brown hair and the most amazing bright green eyes. He has a beautiful smile, and is just sweet as pie.
You can’t help but admire him in his dark grey suit with Navy shirt and tie. It compliments your navy a-line gown that has a long slit on the left leg. You loved this dress the moment you saw it, and you couldn’t help but know a certain someone would love it too. You figured you would try your best to drive him crazy, even though he has moved on and probably doesn’t care.
“You ready to go beautiful?” Jeremy asks, holding out his arm. You nod and accept his arm as he leads you to the elevator. “Thank you for inviting me. I’m glad we get to spend some more time together, because I really enjoyed the other night.” he said as you got into the elevator, heading down to the main floor. You smile widely at him, “I did too Jeremy. I’m glad you came tonight.” you said honestly.
When you walked into the ballroom, you saw it was already packed with people you didn’t know. You lead Jeremy over to the bar, where you saw Nat and Wanda standing. Once you got there, Jeremy got you both drinks and you settled in, talking to your friends. After about an hour, you couldn’t help the feeling you were being watched. You tried to ignore it, but you finally had to look.
Once you looked over to the other side of the room, you locked eyes with bright blue ones. You breath got caught in your throat as you admire Bucky in a black suit with black shirt and tie. He looked absolutely delicious. You break eye contact to see his arm around Ashley, who is smiling at Steve, who they are having a conversation with. Ashley is in a beautiful light blue dress that compliments her well.
You return back to the conversation you were in, fighting against yourself to look over at him again, even though you know he is looking at you. After some drinks and talking, you and Jeremy hit the dance floor. He had no problem dancing like a fool with you, which you loved. He made you laugh hard, which was something you hadn’t done in awhile. It made your heart flutter.
Suddenly a slow song starts, and Jeremy pulls you into his arms and hold you close. You actually don’t mind it, because you are really enjoying spending time with him. You look around you and notice Bucky and Ashley are dancing close to you. You try to stay focused on the man in front of you, but you glimpse over and see Bucky is watching you, with a deadly look in his eyes. It makes you smile, knowing you are still affecting him.
“I’m really enjoying myself, Y/N.” Jeremy says in your ear softly, breaking you from your thoughts. You look up at him smiling and feel a pull, and suddenly you feel your lips on his. It felt weird, but at the same time, it felt right. You deepened the kiss and allowed him to explore your mouth, before finally pulling away. You smile at Jeremy and lay your head on his shoulder as you continue to dance, completely forgetting about anyone else in the room.
Meanwhile Bucky feels like he was just punched in the gut and all the breath has left his body. You really were moving on from him, and it’s his fault. He should have fought for you, but his stupid ass accepted what you said and left. He does care about Ashley, but she isn’t you. You’re it for him. He doesn’t want anyone else. But you are here with someone else, who makes you laugh and smile, and kisses you like how Bucky wants to. He just wants to die seeing you happy without him.
Once the song was over, you lead Jeremy over to the bar for another drink at the same time Bucky brings Ashley over. All your friends are there so it is only semi-awkward. “I like your dress Ashley, it’s beautiful.” you say with a kind smile. Ashley returns it saying, “Thank you. I love yours too. You look amazing.”
You give her a smile and pull Jeremy away from the crowd. You walk over to one of the tables and talk about how much fun you were having, and taking bets on when Tony will get drunk, though Jeremy doesn’t have a shot cause he doesn’t know Tony.
Just then “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Billy Joel comes on. You cant help but smile, looking down at your hands folded on your lap. You think back to when you and Bucky first became friends and you told him he had to listen to the song, because it will catch him up on what happened in the world from the 50′s to the late 70′s. After he listened to it, he looked up the lyrics and what they meant. It turned into his favorite song, and in turn, your song. You danced to it every party, except this one. Whenever either of you was in a bad mood or sad, you would play it and dance and sing along together. It was actually when you realized you were in love with him. Turns out it was the same for him, unbeknownst to you.
Listening to it now at the party, it started to make you sad. You missed him so damn much. You feel the tears starting to come, so you excuse yourself and tell Jeremy you will be back. You quickly leave the ballroom and head for the elevator. You needed air, and the only place you know that wouldn’t be occupied was the roof. You step into the elevator and press the correct button, waiting for the doors to close. Just as they are about to, a hand stops them.
You look up to see Bucky, who walks into the elevator and allows the doors to close behind him. It’s the first time you both have been alone in over two months. The tension in the elevator is suffocating as you both stare at each other, saying nothing. Bucky takes a step closer, hoping it’s ok. When you fail to move, he continues until he is right in front of you. He tentatively brings his flesh hand up to cup your face. You can’t help but lean into it.
As he starts lowering his face to yours, FRIDAY informs you that you are at the roof. It breaks you apart as you leave the elevator and head outside to the roof. Bucky silently follows you until you come to the railing. He stops behind you, hoping you will say something. Tears are slowly rolling down your face as you kick yourself mentally. “What do I have to do to get over you?” you say quietly, knowing he will hear it.
Bucky walks up to the railing and stands next to you. “I... I don’t want you to.” He says quietly, making you look up at him. He swallows the lump in his throat, “I made a mistake. I should have fought for you. I shouldn’t have given up so easily. I’m a fucking idiot. And I know I might be too late, because you are here with that guy, but I...” he looks out into the city skyline.
You sniff and look down at your feet thinking of what to do. “You chose Ashley.” you said looking at him. He closes his eyes, shakes his head and looks at you. You see the heartbreak in his eyes. “I know, but...” “You chose Ashley.” you interrupt him to say it again slightly louder.
Bucky doesn’t know what to say. He knows what he wants, and he is so worried that he is too late. “Y/N, I chose wrong. I like Ashley, I do. She is a great girl, who has treated me well, but... but she isn’t you. You are who I want. You are who I need. You... you made the nightmares disappear.” he whispered.
Your heart started to pound, as she takes in all that he just said. He continues to look deep into her eyes and she sees behind the heartbreak, unconditional love. “What about Jeremy, and... and Ashley?” she whispers, not trusting her voice.
Bucky takes a step closer and once again cups her face with his flesh hand. “Well, I’ll talk with Ashley and tell her the truth. I feel bad for leading her on, and I will understand if she hates me, but I have to be honest. I should have been from the beginning. And as far as Jeremy goes... that’s up to you.” he says leaning in and resting his forehead on hers.
She takes a deep breath and smells his cologne. It smells like home. She wants to jump into his arms, but she is so scared. She really liked Jeremy, but she loves Bucky. She pushed him away too many times, but it’s not fair to Jeremy.
“No matter what you decide, I am going to end it with Ashley and move back home.” he says. You look up at him and don’t know what to say. Everything feels like it’s moving in slow motion. You are so happy that he is moving home, you feel bad for Ashley, and you are now confused on what to do about Jeremy.
Bucky, once again steps closer and leans in. Just as your lips are about to touch his, you hear the chime of the elevator and quickly push yourself away. Ashley and Jeremy both walk out of the elevator and see both of you. Jeremy lifts his one eyebrow in question. “Is everything okay?” he asks you. You give him a small smile and nod.
Ashley stands there and looks at Bucky, but says nothing. Jeremy walks over and drapes his arm over your shoulders and pulls you with him back toward the elevator. You quickly look back over your shoulder and see Bucky watching you leave, glaring at Jeremy. You walk into the elevator and give Bucky a small nod as the doors close.
Bucky stands there looking at the elevator, feeling jealousy run through his veins. He doesn’t notice that Ashley has walked up and is now standing next to him. Ashley however continues to look at Bucky and it makes her realize that she will never win his heart. His heart belonged to someone, but it wasn’t her, and will never be her.
“Bucky... I think we need to talk.” she says sadly. Bucky looks at her, regret flooding his eyes. “Yeah, I think you’re right.”

Oh Anatole Brainrot* We’re Really In It Now, aka Anatole playlist annotations!
*I only have brainrot about him in terms of his relationships with Hélène and Dolokhov idc about him on his own 🤢
This playlist is infuriating because it has so many good songs on it and he does NOT deserve to have a playlist that slaps so hard :/
My Type - Saint Motel
“You’re just my type; you’ve got a pulse and you are breathing”
The lyrics are literally just I Will Have Sex With Anything That Breathes which is Anatole’s only personality trait. It just is.
Fool For Love - Lord Huron
“I’m asking her to be my bride, I know there’s another man but he ain’t gonna delay my plans”
This song is about eloping with a girl who already has a boyfriend, it is THE Comet section Anatole song. Which angers me because it’s such a good song, it doesn’t deserve to be associated with him in my head.
The Cult of Dionysus - The Orion Experience
“Wine and women and wonderful vices”
HEDONISM BABEY!!! Also the phrase “wine and women” with “he spends his money on women and wine” in Comet...makes ya think.
Everybody Loves Me - OneRepublic
“Look so good I might die, all I know is everybody loves me”
You know that quote that’s like “[Anatole] cultivated an air of superiority blah blah blah whatever” (paraphrased)? This is that in song form.
Bedroom Hymns - Florence + The Machine
“The wine and the women and the bedroom hymns”
Thottery AND the phrase “wine and women”? Anatolecore.
Talk - Hozier
“I’ll try to talk refined for fear that you find out how I’m imagining you”
I think if he needs to, Anatole can sugarcoat carnal desire with pretty words. It kind of comes down to “I’m pretending to be eloquently and romantically interested in you but I really just want to have s*x with you”. He might not have that much self-control, but the bottom line is that this song is horny and so is he.
Someone New - Hozier
“I wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart’s already sinned”
All my notes say is “commitment issues thot anthem” which is fair. I think it’s physically impossible for him not to fall in love with someone new every week, which is the entire point of this song. Also “you knew who I was with every step that I ran to you” tracks, Anatole doesn’t really try to hide it.
Paradise City - Guns N’ Roses
“Take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty”
I won’t lie, I’m not sure if this is what the song is actually about but that bit at least has hedonism energy. Also this came up on genius lyrics and it feels like something Anatole would do:
Tumblr media
Hallelujah - Panic! At The Disco
“I got caught under the covers with secondhand lovers”
Ok whore. But also the vibes of knowing you’re a sinner and reveling in it feels like Anatole. It’s the complete lack of shame for me.
Why Should I Worry - Billy Joel
“Why should I worry? Why should I care?”
Has he ever actually cared about anything other than his own personal wellbeing? Jury’s still out. This song implies he has street smarts which may not be true but not every lyric is gonna work 😔✌🏻
Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel
“I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun”
The entire song is just seducing a devoutly Catholic girl, and it doesnt exactly work but I always assign this in my head to that time he tried to marry Marya B. But just in general, the reckless seduction vibes work.
Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega
“To me flirting is just like a sport”
Unironically this is such an Anatole song. Listing off all his different lovers and their attributes is absolutely something he’s done. This is just a carefree thot song which is his vibe.
Ex’s and Oh’s - Elle King
“Ex’s and oh’s they haunt me like ghosts”
This is also on the Hélène playlist but this time the ex messing things up is his wife (not that any of that was her fault). I also think the general vibes of “I’m gonna make you want me so much and then leave you” are Anatoleish
Rasputin - Boney M.
“Russia’s greatest love machine”
LOOK ME IN THE EYES AND TELL ME THIS DOESN’T WORK. It’s about the seduction of upper-class Russian women come ON
I’m Born To Run - American Authors
“I’m gonna live my life like I’m gonna die young”
This is almost a more wholesome version of his careless hedonism, more skewed toward seeing the world rather than just having drunken fun but the energy is still there
Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen
“Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time”
It’s the “having fun is the only thing that matters” mindset. He doesn’t deserve this song 😔
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy - Queen
I don’t have a lyric for this one, it’s just like. Yes I am a professional flirter! He is not this into commitment but i imagine he tells a new person this every week.
Oops!...I Did It Again - Britney Spears
“But to lose all my senses, that is just so typically me”
The lack of commitment and not treating relationships seriously is very Anatole, and so is the refusal to take responsibility for the heartbreak you directly caused.
How Bad Can I Be? - The Lorax
“How bad can I be? I’m just doing what comes naturally”
I KNOW I KNOW. HEAR ME OUT. This is pretty much Tolstoy’s “defense” of him verbatim. It’s the idea that he’s just so naturally like this it has never occurred to him to be any other way or to think about other people’s wellbeing. Anatole is the Onceler and Natasha is a straight girl on tumblr circa 2012.
Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars
“When I play, I never stay”
He would never be this self-aware, but otherwise it fits. The whole thing is about an inability to commit and a propensity for causing heartbreak. Also, I’ve had a grudge against this song for years and the blind rage it fills me with is reminiscent of the blind rage Anatole fills me with.
California Girls - The Beach Boys
“I’ve been all around this great big world and I’ve seen all kinds of girls”
This song is like, “What if we objectified every woman ever but made it a bop?” which is massive Anatole energy I think.
Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crüe
“I just need a new toy”
Literally the exact same justification as California Girls
It’s Raining Men - The Weather Girls
If I’m gonna add songs about objectifying women, I’m gonna add songs about objectifying men too. Equal opportunity whorery.
Parental Guidance - Judas Priest
“You say I waste my life away but I live it to the full”
This is just him to Vassily. Refusing to be controlled by your parents’ expectations and just going off to have fun is Vassily’s whole gripe with him and also the point of this song.
How To Be A Heartbreaker - MARINA
“You gotta have fun, but baby when you’re done you gotta be the first to run”
The bits about not getting close to anyone because you’re afraid of getting hurt don’t really apply but the “here’s how to make people like you and also we are for sure not staying together this is just for fun” definitely fit.
The STD Song - Top Memes
“Sinning with your naked bod is evil and atrocious”
I uh. I forgot this was on here but I was RIGHT when I added it. This is the lecture Vassily gives him after his Polish wife debacle-
Do It All The Time - I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME
“I’m only doing anything I want to do because I do it all the time”
He literally just does whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences. It’s just got huge entitled kid thot energy which is Anatole’s whole character. And the line “I’m taking your girl and I’m making her mine” is deeply Anatoleish.
Until The Night Turns - Lord Huron
“I got a helluva view for the end of the world, I've got a bottle of booze and a beautiful girl”
This doesn’t fit into any particular situation but I do think if the world was ending and Anatole was drunk with a pretty lady he would have this exact reaction. Also the repetition of the word sunrise (which is what the name Anatole means) is just a fun little extra bit.
Girls - The 1975
“What’s the fun in doing what you’re told?”
Rebellious kid energy! Also “she can’t be what you need if she’s 17” is everyone with morals @ him about Natasha (I know she was 19 at the time shh it’s about the energy).
Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) - The Offspring
“In his own mind he’s the dopest trip”
This man is The Worst but he really thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips huh! Literally everyone can tell he’s not the brightest bulb in the bunch EXCEPT HIM. Smh.

Thanks to @jocarthage for tagging me! Rules: You can usually tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to! Put your music library on shuffle and list the first 10 songs, then tag 10 people.
1.) Suzanne by Fairport Convention- This is really a Leonard Cohen songs, but this cover is the one I first heard, and my favorite. 2.) My Type by The Chainsmokers (Feat. Emily Warren) (this one is so evocative-- I'm right there in this person's head from the first note...even though this is not remotely my lived experience.)
3.) Arlington, by Trace Adkins- This song has always made me cry-- no matter my complicated feelings about the military. I definitely don't cry *less* now that my job includes applying for and folding Veteran's flags.
4.) This Life (Theme from Sons of Anarchy) by Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers. -- Holy crap does this put be back in my final days of college.
5.) Alibi by Dessa-- Fuck, any song my Dessa is going to have lyrics that make me swoon. One of the ones I love in this one is "Word on the street is a page out of Blake/ your man made money but he made mistakes" (The reference to Songs of Innocence in a rap song? I swoon again).
6.) Barbara Allen by Emmy Rossum (from the movie Songcatcher). So we have...several family friends who were in Songcatcher. This entire soundtrack is AMAZING if you like folk music. Mom and I used to play it for weeks on end on the drive to school.
7.) Bright Path by Jack Gladstone- I assume no one will have heard of Jack Gladstone, but this man is the reason why I learned 96% of the indigenous history of this country. He's a Blackfoot Indian and an oral historian-- his songs are why I know about Code Talkers, Napi, the Battle of Little Big Horn, Sitting Bull's resistance to the U.S. Army, and the story of how Jim Thorpe (a.k.a. Bright Path)- the first Native person to win an Olympic Gold (he won both the Pentathlon and Decathlon in the 1912 Olympics and was regarded as the best athlete in the entire world... and then was stripped of his medals on a trumped-up basis- that he had been paid about $2/day in summer baseball leagues (as most college athletes did at the time). It wasn't until 1983 before the summer games in Los Angeles that the IOC restores his medals were returned to his family, and and his records returned to the books... 30 years after his death. Frankly, this one historian is why I knew the facts of injustices done to Indigenous people on this continent from a young age, and understood those done to other marginalized communities as well... because of one assembly at elementary school, and parents who made car rides about interrogating the norms of this land's history.
8.) Still Hurting from The Last 5 Years- An amazing show... but in hindsight, a somewhat awkward soundtrack to lose one's virginity to-- being, as it is, a musical about the bitter dissolution of a relationship.
9.) Code of Silence by Billy Joel-- Look, I love the lyrics of most Billy Joel songs, I was raised on them... and this one works on a lot of levels for RNM, actually. "You can't talk about it, 'cause you're living by a code of silence...when you've really got a lot to say"
10.) The Wind That Shakes The Barley-- Irish folk songs about- what else- Rebellion and the English killing one's lover. Like they do.
So... I like folk, songs that tell stories, theatre, and history... and somehow this didn't actually hit on a Taylor Swift song, which seems frankly implausible, given my listening habits. Tagging @angrycowboy @ober-affen-geil @im-the-punk-who @suzteel @tasyfa @a1kitkat @angsty-nerd @maeglinthebold @haloud @dr-lemurr (I did absolutely no checking if anyone I tagged has already done this, and anyone who hasn't been tagged should consider me to have tagged them if they desire to do the thing. These are the types of lists I am Very Bad At, and we can just assume I want everyone to have fun)

Ok ok, you asked which songs I associated with CNCO but you clearly weren't asking for the cookie cutter ones (if you want more PG-13 version I can do those). These are mostly nsfw lyrics so please minors do not go searching for them. So here they are:
Richard -my personal fav tbh Mala Conducta by Alexis y Fido
Its dirty, the beat is absolutely nasty and incredible to dance to. Lyrics are literally talking about how she is just asking to be "punished" but then she clearly likes it and about a blowjob 🤷‍♀️
Christopher- Fanática Sensual by Plan B
Song is basically them calling out their fans about being horny on main for them and just saying (and probably doing according to their imagination) dirty things just based on a pic of them. They also basically say "gosh, the things you say make me blush but I really wanna know if you'd really be like that if we meet face to face". Does that not give you Chris vibes?!?!?!
Erick - 5 letras also by Alexis y Fido
Yeah the five letters are MOTEL 😂😂😂 It basically says let's have sex in a motel but lets put music loud enough so no one hears what we are up to. Also mostly because it has this part "ese mirada de asesina me engatusa" which roughly translates to "your killer stare has me mesmerize".
Joel- Zun Da Da by Zion
Ok ok, this one isn't that dirty. This is more on the romantic reggueton style. It talks about "having sex with our clothe on" and just hugging, kissing, dancing close and feeling each other out. I'm not saying that I don't think Joel doesn't have a dirty mind but I don't see him being soo much into dirty beats and explicit lyrics, he seems the kind that likes the subtle hints more 🤷‍♀️
I also considered Atrevete-te-te by Calle 13 hahaha but thought that would be doing him dirty 🙈
Zabdiel- ok so cause he is my bias and I just can't pass on making a joke, he is getting two:
1-Mayor que yo by Baby Ranks, Daddy Yankee, Tony Tun Tun, Hector and Wisin & Yandel
Do I need to explain? The title literally is "I don't care that you are older than me" 😂😂😂
2-Ilegal by Cultura Profética
Listen, this song has such a reggae chill vibe but the lyrics are 🥵🥵🥵 Like its clearly about sex but its not just that but that the corus is literally about telling the girl after the first round "honey that was just the beginning, now that we got to know each other the real fun starts and will last all night if you let me".
I can prob find you less filth suggestions if you want 🙈
Ok hello yes I downloaded these songs ans listened omw to work and CAN I JUST SAY. iara you outdid yourself here holy shit
Richard: when I first heard this i kind of focused on the beat and was lile damnnnn I wanna dance to this with him. THEN I paid attention to the lyrics and 😳😳😳 MAAM THAT WAS UNPROVOKED HOLY SHIT. this song. This SONG. Anyway richard come tear my clothes off ok thanks
Chris: i- I dont even know where to begin. This song reminds me of him saying "I know you want my dick" in that video. Thats literally all there is to say. Man is hot, he knows it, and he knows we think about fucking him. I fucking hate thissss he makes me feel things.
Erick: this is perfect erick vibes I can almost hear him sing it!! Like, the lyrics are just the right amount of freaky and eager and the singer is so confident that the person wants them and its sweet but a little cheesy. V much erick, 1000000/10 pick
Joel: this song is lowkey such a bop like im in love w it?? The vibes are immaculate and yeah its more soft and sensual but still erotic af. I completely agree joel is freaky but in a ✨romantic✨ way and this song encapsulates that imo. Also I listened to the other song you mentioned and yeah this is a MUCH better choice lmao.
Zabdiel: love that you saved him for the end AND you gave him two songs lmao. OK, so the first one. Yep that's zab. Not just the older person thing but the line about having a million lovers and still wanting her? I think that's the translation anyway Spanish isn't my best language, but if its right its totally him. Like, he just has a million girls and they all think he's the one lmao. Zabdiiii I can be one of the million yk 👀👀
Ok onto his second song. The CHORUS DAMNNNNNN. yes sir come whisper that in my ear. Anyway this is my fav song on here and literally everything about it is amazing like not only does it have zab vibes but I personally LOVE it like its so sensual I wanna dance to it so bad ahh
Okok, iara, you really did smth here bc I cant stop thinking about these boys rn. Like. This is so good. There are a million ideas in my heard rn and if I wasn't about to start an internship I'd be writing them alllllllll down. Its fine I'll do it tn. Or this weekend. EVENTUALLY, esp the richard and Chris ones. Those. Those are eminent.

not da but I'm getting into Canadian music, I think you've mentioned before you like the tragically hip, what do you think of sloan? any other bands and artists to consider?
There’s a reason The Tragically Hip is so beloved in this country. Their songs aren’t just songs, they’re poetry. If you want to check them out, I recommend starting with the album Yer Favourites, which is a collection of their top songs voted by fans. And also I’d like to give a special shoutout to what I consider to be an extremely underrated album: We Are The Same. Most people will tell you Fully Completely is their best one, but there isn’t a single song in We Are The Same that I don’t love. (Especially Country Days, The Depression Suite, Coffee Girl, and of course, Now The Struggle Has a Name...)
Sloan has some good ones, and I’d be a poor Nova Scotian not to say that lol. If you like any of The Hip’s songs that have a more pop-ish vibe, you’ll probably like them.
Anyway, some more recommendations, only English unless you’re open to some French as well, let me know:
MATTHEW GOOD. MATTHEW GOOD. MATTHEW GOOD. (Before going solo, Matthew Good Band.) One of my all time favourite artists. I recently shared my playlist of my favourites on my main blog if you’re interested. Also just like The Hip, his lyrics are more often than not very poetic, and I love that. Especially given a number of them come from personal places and I’ll just say if you have any mental disorders yourself there’s a good chance you’ll be able to really feel when he sings about his own. Anyway, my two favourite albums in particular are Hospital Music and Avalanche, with Moving Walls and Underdogs (Matthew Good Band) close behind.
Our Lady Peace is fantastic. I recommend starting with the albums Gravity and Clumsy.
The Stanfields are a fun mix of what they call Folk’n’Roll. Check out their albums Vanguard of the Young & Reckless and Death & Taxes for sure. (Oh fuck, also check out the video for Afraid of the World because the end of it gets me every time... white woman walks around scoffing at all the pumpkin heads, then goes home and puts on her pumpkin head.)
If you’re interested in another really great mix of Atlantic Folk and alternative rock, I suggest Joel Plaskett / Joel Plaskett Emergency. Start with either the Joel Plaskett Emergency album Ashtray Rock, or the solo Joel Plaskett album Three. Also the album Solidarity he did with his father, Bill Plaskett, is beautiful. The Next Blue Sky is one of my favourite songs ever.
Matt Mays is one more Atlantic Folksy rock guy. Once Upon a Hell of a Time and Twice Upon a Hell of a Time (acoustic versions of Once) are a perfect starting point in my opinion, though most fans of his would tell you to start with the album Coyote, which is also great!
Arcade Fire is... I’m not really sure how to describe Arcade Fire. I like some of their stuff, but they are something of an acquired taste, I think. Try the album The Suburbs.
If I tell you I adored Avril Lavigne and Billy Talent growing up, would you judge me? Because I did, and I still do. If you’re willing to keep an open mind, try Avril Lavigne’s albums Under My Skin and Let Go, and if you’re in a real angsty mood, try Billy Talent’s albums Dead Silence and Hits. (I would especially recommend trying Billy Talent if you like bands like say, Green Day and MCR.)
Okay, some more classics... Rush, The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), and April Wine are all great. They all have greatest hits / best of albums, so just start there.
Oh shit, I almost forgot Bryan Adams, AKA the Canadian Bruce Springsteen. Though you’ll have trouble finding one of my favourite songs by him, so here it is.
I also feel like I needn’t even bother mentioning Neil Young since I’m assuming you him before, but... yeah. Neil Young, obviously.
EDIT: AAHHH forgot Great Big Sea! Check out their album Play.
EDIT: Yes I love Nickelback too. Sue me.
EDIT: I forgot, Alanis Morissete is Canadian. Listen to her Jagged Little Pill album if you’ve never done so before.
EDIT: I had no idea Three Days Grace was Canadian??? One-X and Human are my favourite albums by them, but Life Starts Now is also pretty up there. (Similar vibes to Bily Talent, but I’d say even more angsty lol)
I also wanna give a particular shoutout to at least some albums from my fave Canadian Indigenous artists:
Shawnee deserves so many more listeners please check her out. Her only full album as of now is Let It Burn, but she’s also got a bunch of released singles.
Buffy Sainte-Marie’s Medicine Songs and The Best Of
Jeremy Dutcher’s Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa... I know I said I’d limit reccomendations to English but I can’t help it.
Susan Aglukark’s This Child
Adrian Sutherland is a newbie, but I am begging everyone reading this to check out his song Politician Man. Needless to say, I look forward to hearing more from him.

#140-131
140. Starlight (5.688) Highest score was 8; Lowest score was 0 (@inweedsferociously)
Taylor’s Kennedy fanfiction unfortunately doesn’t cut it for a lot of people. At a stretch, this song might be considered a precursor to The Last Great American Dynasty with its focus on historical storytelling. But where TLGAD has a strong thematic link to the rest of the album it belongs to (we’ll go more into that when we get to her!), Starlight is definitely an outlier in Red, and perhaps that contributes to the not-so-positive feelings towards it.
Highlighted comments: @inweedsferociously: “This song has always sounded super tacky to me and reminds me so much of the melodic composition of another song that already exists - hence the zero” @yourivysgrows: “She's cute but forgettable??”
138. Untouchable & The Man (5.700) Untouchable: Highest score was 8; Lowest score was 3 The Man: Highest score was 9; Lowest score was 1
We have our first tie! Untouchable is the only cover that I included in the rate, and for good reason - Taylor transforms this song so much from the original that she was even granted a writing credit for it! Taylor truly made this song her own.
Highlighted comments: @corneliaavenue: “I dont think I can describe the disappointment I had when I learned this song was a cover”  @yourivysgrows: “I had no clue this was a cover but it's beautiful”
As for The Man, there’s a lot I could say about The Man, but I won’t because I’m not trying to start fights here (well, I am, but only the fun kind of fights, not the serious kind of fights). It is a delight to hear Taylor drop her very first instance of “bitch” in a song though! And irregardless of what you think of the music video, the makeup work in it deserves all the accolades.
Highlighted comments: @treacherousdemo: “the bridge is the saving grace of this one.. does not excuse the production though” (once again, we have something to blame Joel Little for) @corneliaavenue: “the lyrics are great, the production is god awful” (see above!)  @liabilitys: “i overhyped it when it first comes out. its a good song as long as we dont view it as a feminist anthem.”
137. I’m Only Me When I’m With You (5.763) Highest score was 7.5; Lowest score was 3
It’s time for me to be mad again! If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from doing this, it’s how much you all play Debut and Fearless dust. This is a bop! It’s fun and happy and deserves better than you lot!
Highlighted comments: @yourivysgrows: “The personally made video 🥺” (yes! Here is the link for the uninitiated)
136. How You Get the Girl (5.772) Highest score was 8.5; Lowest score was 2
The best thing to come out of this song was the tour performance, to be honest. For a long time the love for this song in the fandom felt overblown because of it, but it seems like the hype has mostly died down to a regular level.
Highlighted comments: @yourivysgrows: “A manual that most men don't use sadly 😭”
135. epiphany (5.788) Highest score was 9.5; Lowest score was 1
Sigh... I suppose this was to be expected. epiphany has always kind of been the unloved child of the otherwise very-much-loved folklore parent album. I think this is a beautiful song that discusses death in a very nuanced and timely manner, but I can respect why this song isn’t for everyone.
Highlighted comments: @corneliaavenue: “as an online med school student, there is a lot that med school isn't covering right now” @yourivysgrows: “Had no right to make me cry”
134. Beautiful Ghosts (5.919) Highest score was 10; Lowest score was 0 (@itspeterlosingwendy)
This song’s biggest sin is that it reminds us that the Cats movie exists, and that Taylor willingly chose to be a part of it. And it’s very transparent Oscar bait (and transparent Oscar bait that didn’t even work, at that!). Be grateful that I didn’t force you all to listen to and rate Macavity.
Highlighted comments: @itspeterlosingwendy: “look.... it's just...... not good. i'll go a round with anyone who gives this higher than a 4″ (there’s plenty of you out there who did, who wants to volunteer for a 1v1 with maddie?)  @treacherousdemo: “if it weren't for "chonces" and being associated with cats this could've been like a 9 rip”  @liabilitys: “this fandom ignores this song sm but lyrically its such a good song!” (unfortunately i think that’s a consequence of us just ignoring the entirety of Cats lol)
133. It’s Nice to Have a Friend (5.931) Highest score was 10; Lowest score was 0 (@tobesolonely)
In an album of bops and bangers, It’s Nice to Have a Friend stands out for its understatedness and non-traditional structure. It fits perfectly as the penultimate song on the album - after the rollercoaster that is the Lover tracklist, it’s a calm interlude before the final act of Daylight. In my mind, INTHAF is essential to the album, but alas, many of you are tasteless and here we are.
Highlighted comments: @tobesolonely: “this song literally just sounds incomplete and the disdain i have for it is unreal.” @yourivysgrows: “I like how different it is”
132. Teardrops on My Guitar (5.934) Highest score was 9; Lowest score was 1
Another example of Taylor holding nothing back and straight up naming this guy she had a crush on (and who already had a girlfriend!). The story about Drew eventually showing up at Taylor’s house after this song released, only for Taylor to be like “not interested anymore sorry!” is honestly hilarious. Poor Drew.
Highlighted comments: @itspeterlosingwendy: “it's just.... not it” @everfolk: “this song is such a banger and it STILL holds up today like the talent?? even on her debut album” @yourivysgrows: “Probably my favorite off of debut”
131. Everything Has Changed (ft. Ed Sheeran) (5.956) Highest score was 8.5; Lowest score was 1
The fandom’s hatred of Ed Sheeran rears its ugly head again, as this song places a lot lower than I believe it otherwise would. It’s funny to think of how positively people viewed Ed back in the Red era, when “Sweeran” was well-liked. As someone who neither likes nor dislikes Ed Sheeran, I do wonder if he and Taylor are still friends, and if not, how the rerecording of this one is gonna go.
Highlighted comments: @everfolk: [after giving the song a 1] “please im begging”  @yourivysgrows: “My favorite Ed x Taylor”

i finallyyyy finished the explanations for my tlb playlistttt so come get yall juice
if you haven’t already seen my first (official) post about this silly little playlist then you are still in luck !!! here is the spotify and the youtube links !!! oh yeah also all of the songs are in chronological order (maybe not by month but definitely by year) because i had to be organized like that sbjhshsjbs
———
❥ title
i mean. there isn’t much to explain about it but sbjshbsjhs it’s based on sam’s line “you’re a creature of the night, michael!” of course but i made it plural because this playlist is sort of a. general boys / movie playlist, if that makes sense??? but yeahhhh they’re all littol creechers who love the night >:o]
———
❥ paint it, black — the rolling stones
so !!! i was kind of trying to relate it to the boys vampirism and. love of black clothes sbhsjbshjs but no. similar to the title, they. literally live in darkness because of not being able to go into the sun and because of the few lights in the lair but there’s also a sort of duality where being vampires in an internal darkness??? like. each of the boys takes heavy advantage of the benefits of being undead but i can’t imagine it’s without its faults outside of the lack of sunlight and such. i’m sure there’s a kind of uh. monster complex that follows it, especially with the way outsiders view them, which certainly fits with the song’s vibe of being washed with this sort of sensory overload to color and earning weird looks for it
———
❥ riders on the storm — the doors
first of all, there’s a giant ass jim morrison poster in the lair therefore the boys definitely listen to the doors (if not idolize jim) so jot that down. but also !!! it has very Them vibes !!! i think the storm effects definitely relate to boys in how storms create a darkness that is soothing in its own way, and comes on strong, just like the boys’ presence. and. technically they Are killers on the road that Will kill a sweet family sbhjsbshjsb but no most of all the !!! “into this house we’re born // into this world we’re thrown” and !!! the found family that the boys have going. like, if you look at. vampirism as the house they have LITERALLY been born into it and been thrown into a whole new world, depending on each other for comfort and pleasure !!! oh also. they ride motorcycles so they’re also literal riders sbhjsbshjs (fun fact, according to genius lyrics: apparently it was the last song jim recorded before he died a few weeks later 😳)
———
❥ love her madly — the doors
whole jim morrison poster and listening to the doors reasoning is sustained. HOWEVER for the rest of reasoning… perhaps it’s more straight up 95060 than anything but sbhsjbsshj the whole woman walking in and out of the audience’s life is very symbolic of michael being in and out with the boys, never really deciding whether he wants to fully join them and straining. all of his relationships with that indecision and sitting on the picket fence (those who sit on the picket fence are impaled by it). although, it could also be partly symbolic of that indecision, as he does find Some charm in the boys’ lifestyle and keeps finding himself drawn back enough to even consider partaking in it. also, if you wanna go the parko route, paul loves marko madly enough to go after the frog bros personally for killing him <3
———
❥ walk this way — aerosmith
i am. blanking on how to tie it in other than being on the movie’s soundtrack (yes i avoided it and people are strange until the very end of making the playlist, but one of the evils got me clearly— have always ADORED people are strange though). but. i guess you can make the case that the song is full of innuendos and some scenes, like the feeding scene, are lowkey horny sbsjhbshjsbs and YES it’s the aerosmith version instead of the run dmc one because. i prefer this one and it’s my silly little playlist <3
———
❥ the boys are back in town — thin lizzy
technically the boys never Left town but !!! *christopher walken voice* Boys !!! them cast ARE crazy and they’re ALWAYS dressed to kill, ready to spill some blood and pick a fight !!! yeah no it’s just a very fun song that i think really works to. represent their crazy lifestyle and infamy around town due to causing trouble !!! and you can almost say that in this scenario star is the girl who used to dance a lot and slapped the shit out of someone <3 just girlboss moments <3
———
❥ xanadu — rush
hehehe… this started as the. desire to add more rush to the playlist for my own amusement but the more times i listen to it, the more i’m like “!!! it actually fits”… like. xanadu here is meant to a sort of utopia that’s long searched for, partly BECAUSE of the promise of immortality which !!! the boys have (unless. harmed in one of the ways at the end of the movie) because of their vampirism. like even if we don’t know the exact reasons they got turned, they all still, mostly indirectly probably, sought out that same principle. And the dining on honeydew and drinking the milk of ‘paradise’ is similar to their thrill-seeking tendencies and general enjoyment of being unable to die, leaving them to enjoy their undead lives to the fullest. not to mention, in [b part 2] (as genius refers to it) there’s talk of many, many years passing and waiting for the world to end, which we know there’s been quite a few years in between the boys getting turned and the movie, as well as i’m sure they sit back and wait on Some apocalypse, if not just to watch the world burn. in writing this, i’ve ALSO realized how it can be considered very Michael; he didn’t exactly seek this life out but he found it and indulged, only to be that “mad immortal man” towards the end of the song

❥ runnin’ with the devil — van halen
i just van halen is neat sbjshbsjsh and would definitely be something the boys would actually listen to hsjbshjsb i don’t Necessarily think vampires are in any way tied to the devil but. here it’d be more like a metaphor of “taking a walk on the wild side” if you wanna call it that; also, they all truly live their lives like there’s no tomorrow (not that they have to worry about death until the very end), have stolen a lot of things just to get by (probably in life AND death), don’t bode well with the ‘simple’ life (likely including the idea of a nuclear family like max proposed) because of it’s lack of pleasures, and don’t exactly have any “love [that] you’d call real” unless you read into the subtext
———
❥ hot blooded — foreigner
originally this was going to be another joke about the. lowkey horniness of the boys and the movie as a whole but i’ve realized in writing these explanations thus far and rereading the lyrics that it’s. it’s just michael-centric sbshjsbsh sam is “at the mercy of his sex glands” and so is the audience of both the movie and the song sbhsjbshsj like. michael finds himself attracted to star immediately and tries for two secret rendezvouses, with only one working, and. can be said that he also finds a fever running within him when he’s around david and the boys sbhjsbshjs i just 🙈
———
❥ renegade — styx
renegade is my favorite styx song so i just said “fuck it” and added it sbshjsbshj but !!! you can say that, again, the boys live their lives on the wild side and. probably commit enough crimes to warrant dozens of sentences, some that would lead to death row (like, ya know, the. manslaughter) but they manage to get away unscathed. And the law man serving as an allegory to all of the people, including the frogs and grandpa, that want them dead for being vampires, with the bounty to be rewarded being the ridding of their trouble from santa carla
———
❥ big shot — billy joel
mikey :o) … ok yeah he isn’t the. silver spoon in hand (nose) type but he’s LITERALLY the type to open his mouth and get himself deep in enough shit that a fight breaks out, potentially bloodied his eyes, nose, and/or fists. i don’t have much of an explanation outside of he is a himbo jock who pulled a “i didn’t know how to talk to my crush so i wrote a note telling them to get out of my school” except he said it with his fist instead of his mouth sbjshbshsj
———
❥ boys don’t cry — the cure
pretty sure this is one of the ones i stole off of shovel (@/iswearimavamp) sbshjbshjs but i do love this song in a general sense too. in regards to the movie, like. none of the guys. obsess over masculinity or anything— and both david AND michael cry at different points— so that’s not necessarily an issue. but, there *is* still a lot of hurt and stepping on toes in many of the relationships in the film that can be stretched to fit, i would think sbjhsbshjs
———
❥ highway to hell — ac/dc
this and back in black were some of the last two i put on here because i. wanted to make an ‘even’ 35 sbsjhsbshjs BUT, like with runnin’ with the devil, it’s about a devilish lack of care for one’s own life or the “status of their soul” and just doing what feels right or like the most fun, no matter if it lands them in hell or not. and !!! “my friends are gonna be there too” fits with the friendship within the boys’ found family and how they’ll all always be together, no matter what !!!
———
❥ back in black — ac/dc
i can’t really think of an explanation that differs from highway to hell so just reread the above sbsjhsbsh
———
❥ witch hunt — rush
OK !!! this is the song i’m the MOST excited to explain !!! right off the bat, moving pictures as a whole is an IMMACULATE album, absolutely love it. right so !!! this song literally SOUNDS like it belongs on the movie soundtrack; it has the same overtones and sounds as cry little sister and it’s just !!! and with the title, a witch hunt is BASICALLY what sam + the frogs went on in search of the lose boys, relying on little else but hearsay and catching glimpses at what was happening to michael, “confident that their ways are best” and moving along like a mob of three to get to the bottom of it. “features distorted in the flickering light // faces are twisted and grotesque” is very reminiscent of the faces the lost boys pull when they’re about to attack, and “they say there are strangers who threaten us” is symbolic of them being outsiders/outcasts that make everyone uncomfortable, even if You aren’t going to be their next victim. “the righteous rise with burning eyes” AND “quick to judge, quick to anger // slow to understand // ignorance and prejudice // and fear walk hand in hand” can apply to any number of characters, particularly the mains who are all pitted against each other, the humans fighting for their lives and the vampires fighting for their Right to live, neither taking into consideration the other’s perspective. i just… ADORE this song…
———
❥ red barchetta — rush
this one was mainly just because of the car that grandpa keeps in the barn and both sam and michael’s fascination with it sbhjsbsshj and just to get more rush on here shjsbshjsbsh
———
❥ maneater — hall & oates
one of the first songs to hit the playlist !!! because the boys eat people !!! they’re the lean and hungry type that only come out at night !!! they’ll be sitting with you but their eyes are on the door and if you want love from them, you won’t get very far !!! the beauty IS there but there are beasts inside that can rip your world apart !!! they’ll chew you up but also leave you begging for more :o)
———
❥ hungry like the wolf — duran duran
the second song to have gone on the playlist !!! the boys are always on the prowl for fresh meat (in both the food AND turning senses) and they come alive while on the hunt, blood no doubt rushing through their veins (assuming it still can) !!! and in the movie, michael is the one they’re after for the turning connotation, all wanting a taste of him for themselves !!!
———
❥ subdivisions — rush
this rush song actually went on before the others shbsjsbshj but !!! it still fits just as well (certainly better than red barchetta)… the movie all takes place on the fringes of the city, “in between the bright lights // and the far unlit unknown”, and while it’s not exactly in the suburbs, there’s still little comfort to soothe the restless dreams of youth. there IS a drawing like moths into the city, for both the emersons and the lost boys, which is what ends up bringing all of them together, although it starts are cruising for action just to feel the living night. and just !!! NOBODY fits in !!! if you take the movie title as them being Lost instead of an allusion to peter pan, then you get slapped with thinking about what actually makes them lost and how they don’t conform in any way, shape, or form to just about. anything. and !!! the emersons are new, which immediately puts them at a social disadvantage, but they Also don’t seem too terribly great at making new friends in general so !!! “nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone”!!!
———
❥ abracadabra — steve miller band
i just love this song for whatever reason. and i think the allusion to magic to very fitting for the hallucinations that david gives michael, putting a sort of magic spell on him if you want to look at it that way. not a lot of silk and satin going gone but plenty of leather and probably some lace in there somewhere ( ;o] ) … also michael DOES heat up like a burnin’ flame whenever his name is called and the situation with the boys just keeps going round and round with no exact end in sight, only the calling of desire
———
❥ separate ways (worlds apart) — journey
you would think i would have more journey on here ??? because i love them ??? but instead i stole this off of shovel too ??? it’s fine. time to be back on the 95060 bullshit sbsjhbsjhs we all know david Really wants michael to join them but. michael is reluctant, so that hesitance sets them worlds apart from each other— as if they weren’t already— and there’s still love between them, or at least the bgeinning sparks of it, even if michael refuses to act on them and only keeps pushing david away
———
❥ cum on feel the noize — quiet riot
just some boys loving to party <3 some boys with evil yet dirty minds, out of time singing, funny faces, and that have a lazy time <3 yeah no this is one they’d rock out to and someone would probably pull a muscle over because it’s just such a banger sbshjsbsjh
———
❥ rebel yell — billy idol
Another stolen off of shovel sbjhsbsjhs also ever since it’s been pointed out to me that david looks like billy idol i’ve just been losing it a little sbhjsbshjs Anyway. they’d definitely idolize him to some degree, even if just for looks, and it certainly fits the way that they. most Definitely let out a rebel yell at the midnight hour if you know what i mean— *taken out by a sniper*
———
❥ every breath you take — the police
would to believe to know i took it from shovel (i swear the last three where i say that will be rock you like a hurricane, livin’ on a prayer, and cherry pie sbshjsbsh) BUT !!! the watching every move is yet another. david keeping watch over michael and uh yearning from afar moment, heart aching the longer he’s away and the longer he keeps up this game of not knowing what exactly he wants to do
———
❥ handsome devil — the smiths
ok THIS one was lent to me by ej (@/maybe-strawberry-blue) sbshjbshjsbs and let me tell you. this song (especially when paired with this charming man) is Very homoerotic, aka perfect for this movie shbjsbshjsbs like what got me first was “let me get my hands // on your mammary glands” and just. thinking about trans parko sbhsjbshjs but also in general the. “and i would like to give you // what i think you’re asking for” and “a boy in the bush // is worth two in the hand” and just sbhjsbshjs Everything. fits the ambiguous homoeroticism. And i think the boys would listen to the smiths (will elaborate more in the other smiths song explanation)
———
❥ panama — van halen
i Told you all i think van halen is neat sbsjsshjb what can i say. the boys like fast moving vehicles, hard partying, and tender loving sbsjhsbhsj also forgot to mention that i think they’d all be :eyes: about pre-1985 david lee roth and i cannot blame
———
❥ rock you like hurricane — scorpions
third to last shovel snatch sbshjsbh Here you can replace any one of the boys with the animals mentioned, as they’re always hungry and need to feed… they come out scratching and ready to win, willing to rock anyone who gets in their way like a hurricane— including with lust, depending on the situation
———
❥ livin’ on a prayer — bon jovi
i actually can’t even manage an explanation for this one either just because of the song’s plot and how greatly it differs the movie plot <3 however it will stay because shovel said one of the boys (i forget which) would listen to it and friendship is more powerful than my small brain <3
———
❥ the queen is dead — the smiths
rightttt so here’s the deal, buds and duds. something in my gut just tells me that david would pull a me and. listen to this entire album on repeat, particularly bigmouth strikes again and i know it’s over when in dramatics bshjsbsjh BUT to make a case for the title track itself, breaking into buckingham palce— or really any major building— with only a sponge and rusty wrench would ABSOLUTELY be an endeavor the boys would get up to And they’d all pale (worse than normal) about finding out they’re the descendant of some royal. “oh, has the world changed, or have i changed” and “life is very long, when you’re lonely” is quite fitting of their immortality, which i can only imagine would leave them questioning how the world has evolved and, although they have each other, i’m sure living forever still can get a Little lonely. And they’d certainly celebrate the death of a royal (because anarchy <3). mostly i’ve just been listening to this song on repeat for days sbhjsbshj but, i think it’s the most. generally related to all of the boys, whereas like. cemetry gates would be more solely 95060
———
❥ need you tonight — inxs
my favorite inxs song… technically the 21st century Wasn’t yesterday when the movie came out nor when the song did sbhjsbshjs but there *is* a lot of sweating from desire and aiming to put that passion into use, very blatantly letting everyone know that sbjhsbshjs
———
❥ bad medicine — bon jovi
there’s just something so fun about this song… and while listening to it on the drive home, i was thinking about it from a 95060 perspective where. david’s a bit lovesick (hence the love like bad medicine) and the choir of voices in the bg, saying “that’s what you get for falling in love”, would be the other boys knowing he’s gotten himself in over his head over what was supposed to be a minor tease or a small fling (would be a real fun and poppy animatic i think)
———
❥ pour some sugar on me — def leppard
legitimately this started as a “haha what about my ‘what if the blood was kool-aid instead’ joke” and then i realized it was. a fair enough fit, especially with the feeding scene. except they’re actual vamps not just video vamps sbjhsbshjs anyway. sugar highs and red hot flames of passion for one another <3
———
❥ cherry pie — warrant
ok THIS is the last song i took from shovel and. my reasoning is pretty much the same as pour some sugar on me and. Friendship
———
❥ somebody told me — the killers
i wasn’t going to add any modern songs but. i thought it’d be funny if michael had had a girlfriend before leaving phoenix that looked a bit like david sbshjsbshj and then it only just added to angst sbhjsbshj
———
❥ you know what they do to guys like us in prison — mcr
i was reminded that vampires will never hurt you exists but. i went with my favorite mcr song instead because. vwnhy is more like ??? a vampire that fears themselves ??? so like. an edward cullen type ??? while ykwtdtgluip is more about the homoeroticism and community ??? i said what i said
———
❥ house of wolves — mcr
thank god this is the last song because i’m getting tired sbjshsjshb a little less homoeroticism, a little more general sinning and egotism <3

Here's Exactly How "You Need to Calm Down" Was Made
By: Billy Nilles for E! Online Date: January 26th 2020
Tumblr media
Joel Little, who met Swift at a Broods concert before reconnecting while she was on tour in his native New Zealand, told E! News exclusively, the foray into music with a message was all the superstar's doing.
"I've got to give her full credit for that. That was all her and her voice and something that she felt was really important for her to say. I think, initially, she sent me a voice memo, just texted me a voice memo of her singing the chorus melody into her phone. Before we even got together, she'd come up with that melody. And so I immediately pulled the audio file into a Pro Tools session and started building the music around it so that by the time she got into the studio a lot of the idea was almost there already."
As Little explained, striking the right tone for the track was of chief importance.
"And she's always great with direction in terms of the tone of things. The fact that it is a bop and you can dance to it is really important because you don't want a song like that to be, you know, too preachy or annoying. I think there's a fine line there... I think it does a great job."
While the song garnered much of its attention for its pro-LGBTQ message, by the time it hits its bridge, it finds Swift throwing her support behind all the women in pop music, letting the misogynists on Twitter know that they won't be divided anymore. (That message was driven home in the video, as well, when she and Katy Perry put their feud behind them, at long last, for a hug while dressed as French fries and a hamburger, respectively.)
But as Little revealed, the bridge that we know and love almost wasn't.
"I think there was, originally, a different idea for the bridge," he said without elaborating on what those initial plans were. "But I think it just lyrically felt like there was still something important to be said there. You know, having a bridge that just kind of fills in a little bit of space before you can get to that last chorus is all well and good, but it's always nice that you can have it kind of be its own idea itself and have it stand on its own. And so I think putting the time in to get that right was important and definitely kind of helps the song overall. You know, that's the part where she's bringing everybody together and saying 'We're all in this and we all deal with this and, you know, we're gonna stick together,' which I think is a great, great thing to say and an important thing to say."
Despite the bridge taking time to get right, Little made clear that Swift's approach to songwriting is, well, swift and in a league of its own.
"I mean, she's one of the all-time greats, for sure, when it comes to songwriting. She always comes in with ideas. It's always - you can really hear in her songs that it's her voice, melodically and lyrically, you know? Even if we miraculously managed to come up with something that can improve on what she already has, which can be quite rare because she's so good already. I think that it's just undeniably her every time, with every song that she does."
As such, Little's hesitant to take much credit for any of the Lover tracks he worked on, which also include "The Man" and "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince." The fact that three of the four happen to be the album's most overtly political, he says, had nothing to do with him.
"I don't know if I can take too much credit for that. You know, that was done over a period of time. They weren't all done in the same - they were done in separate sessions over a few months. And so I guess it was just, you know, that's where she was at the time. I know that there's things that she has felt strongly about for a long time. And I don't know, maybe now, lyrically, she just felt like she was in the right place to say it in the way that she wanted and to do her thoughts justice in that way. And then, you know, I think for me, I was able to help tell the story in the way that she wanted it to be told, sonically and whatever else. But it's all her. I'm not in there going, 'Hey, you should write a song about the state of America today.' [Laughs] She's the one with the idea. And, you know, I just helped her develop it."
As for watching "You Need to Calm Down" become the cultural moment it was, and to see the rest of his contributions to the album be so warmly received, Little couldn't be happier.
"It's just the best feeling in the world. We put a lot of time and effort into the songs and we make sure that we love them ourselves. Because there's no guarantee that songs are going to do amazingly well every time, you know? So it's important that we're releasing something that we're proud of regardless. But I think, especially with Taylor, you know that she's going to come to the party with the craziest video every time. And that's all her ideas. She's co-directing the videos and coming up with the concepts. It's just so fun. She'll always tell me beforehand, 'I've got this idea.' Talk me through her pitch for the videos. So I was really excited to see those videos and they didn't disappoint. Just having them come out and have the reaction that they did. When you've put in all that work, that's kind of the ideal situation to have people love it as much as you do."
No need to calm down here.
