“If you are Apollo, the light of my world, then I am Icarus—he who tries to reach you and watches as you laugh while I fail. I am he who loves and longs to be with you, but you are the untouchable sun and I am the boy who fell too far and too fast.”

Has anyone ever talked about how "downfall" is the perfect word to talk about Icarus??

The Story of Icarus
The Burning Price of Freedom
When I was born,
Freedom was not something I tasted.
Infact, I envied
All that let it go wasted.
I never grew up,
Running from chores;
No.
I ran from roars.
A man half bull.
A beast left starved.
The three of us trapped,
In the maze my father carved.
I was never smart.
I left that to my father.
I only helped,
when he started to stagger.
Sometimes I’d look,
into the sky,
And I’d wonder,
Why?
Why did I have to live this punishment?
Why did I have to die down here?
Why did I have to be a part of such a cruel world?
And then we decided,
We would leave.
And when we did,
We would be freed.
So my father thought,
and he schemed.
And some days we worked so hard,
That we couldn’t hear the screams,
Of the fourteen tributes.
Seven woman, seven men,
Who were brought from Athens,
To their end.
And then,
We started to plan.
We would build wings,
To hold a man.
One whole year,
We worked and we welded,
Until we had golden wings,
That with wax they melded,
Fast to our backs.
‘Not too high or too low’,
Father warned.
‘For you’ll plummet below’
‘Of course father,
I know’.
But when we took flight,
I was not prepared,
For the freedom,
That I felt flared.
I was soaring
in the very sky,
That i used to
look up to and cry.
Father had this feeling,
Bound tight.
For unlike me,
He once knew the feeling of flight.
So I laughed,
and I sung,
As I flew higher,
Towards the sun.
“Icarus no!”
My father tried,
But his voice was lost,
By the wind and the ride.
So I flew higher,
For I've never felt more free.
It was enough to get drunk,
Enough to not see.
But I didn’t care,
I wanted to touch my sun.
Feel his embrace,
Where I had none.
Alas,
I never got there,
My wax melted,
And then started to tear.
And so I fell,
But it wasn’t sad,
I wanted freedom,
That’s not so bad.
And as the sea took me,
Into it’s icy embrace,
I smiled where no one,
Could ever give chase.
And so I smiled at Charon,
And handed him my gold,
And i went through Hades’ gates,
To a future untold.

Do you think the Minotaur thought of Daedalus and Icarus as his roommates and had no idea that Daedalus is the one who built the labyrinth because they’re all trapped together? And Daedalus just goes with it it all the while crippled by guilt? Does he ever find out? Does he feel betrayed?
Does he wait up every birthday for Ariadne to visit him? Does he blow out the candle on his cupcake right at midnight when once again, she doesn’t come.

We are drawn to the sun
We follow Icarus' path,
We long to reach the heights of the sun,
We long for its embrace,
Its warmth intoxicates us,
Its light guides us unfailing,
Its boldness inspires us,
And yet we burn,
Because we are drawn to the sun.
We fall as Icarus did,
Our wings rip apart,
Our feathers fail us,
The ecstasy is our doom,
The power is our downfall,
The high of the rise,
Drags us to depths unknown,
Because we are drawn to the sun.

Don't listen, Icarus
Don't listen to them, When they tell you of hubris, Of freedom, Of hope, or of what it once was, Of Icarus and his flight towards the sky, Of his name meaning: pride, Of the mistakes that he made, The regrets that he felt.
Don't listen to them, Unless they tell the same myth, The same story lost long ago, Like a kiss, Not forgotten, but often mistakenly casted aside, The same tragedy, about the same boy and his pride, About the sea being near, And the sky feeling new, And the freedom, the one thing this kid didn't knew.
Don't listen to them, If you've heard the full warning, that Deadalsus gave, When his son put the wings on and prepared to fly, If you know about the dangers that all of it held, If you know that the sun was not the only despair, That all of us are warned about again and again, If you know that the sea would have killed him the same, If he didn't try and fly higher, and higher, Away.
What would the lesson be then, might I ask them, The people who are scared of the fall and the sun? What would be the warning, the omen? The same? Would we be all warned not to let ourselves down, Not to lose hope and not put down our crown? Would they encourage us to do better, Instead of tearing the dreamers apart, with one letter, With this tale and the fear of the boy's fate playing its part?
Don't listen to them, Icarus, dear, Just know that all of us, The writers, the poets, the artists of sorts, Are always right here, just next to you, Near, Above you, below you, Just move your head, And you will see us, we are not dead. We are waiting for our own flights, And when it is time, We hope you will guide us, with your bright light.

"they still write peoms about you, you know?"
He looked at me strangley, "why?"
I shrugged, "You were a tragedy. People love to dwell on those. "
He smiled to himself, "there's nothing tragic about grasping what you want.....
..... Even if its only for a moment. "
-last night,I dreamed of icarus laughing-
