Icarus
flung himself
towards the
sun,
-
Orpheus
crossed
the point of
no return,
-
and Achilles
tipped the scales
at the price of his life
for the relief
of his lover's justice.
-
-
And me?
-
-
I sit on
my bedroom floor
with my head
between my knees
knowing love and grief
walk hand in hand
with fear and madness
following close behind.
-
-
I felt Icarus stumble
with clumsy wings
as he chased the one thing
that kept him from
freezing to death
-
He hugs me around the neck.
He whispers into my ear,
"It is worth it."
He squeezes me as if to beg
me to listen.
As if we'll both regret it if I don't.
"It is worth it. It is worth it. It is worth it."
-
So I ignore the warnings.
I ignore the flames.
I ignore the water.
-
Because
according to Icarus
it is worth it.
-
It is worth it. It is worth it. It is worth it.
-
-
I felt Orpheus' life crumble
at the alter
as he lost everything
that made his life
worth living.
-
He taps my shoulder
as I walk through Hades' trial.
I keep my eyes facing forward.
"There are no second chances here"
he warns me, his voice just above
a whisper.
"You might as well gouge your eyes out now
if you still want to stand a chance."
I squeez then shut instead.
-
Though, I wonder if he is right.
-
Before I know it, I'm looking for something to do it with
because Orpheus said
it was my only hope.
-
-
I felt Achilles scream and tear his hair out
when he found
his whole world
gone.
I felt the earth shudder as he
cried.
-
He stands beside me like a soldier.
He leans closer as he speaks,
his voice carrying the calmness
of a broken man.
"I say do what you will..."
-
He is quiet for a long moment.
I watch him for an answer.
He seems annoyed.
As if
his answer is obvious.
-
"...You see, you'll do everything
you can,
and they'll still be gone,
and it will still
be your fault...
And when it's over?"
He pauses again
and his silence weighs my chest down.
"Well..."
He doesn't say anything else.
-
He doesn't say anything else because he doesn't need to.
-
Icarus is a dead man.
Orpheus is a dead man.
Achilles
is
a
dead
man.
-
-
They are dead because love and
tragedy
go hand in hand,
yet they still had the courage
to follow
close behind.
-
-
-is gouging my eyes out really the answer?

Yes, Greece still exists, we didn't all die 2000 years ago. Yes, people speak Greek. You people are so fucking stupid for real. So many of you claim to love ancient shit but can't even acknowledge the actual living culture of the people whose mythology and classics you romanticize. You keep leaving annoying comments about how you just forget Greek people still exist, thinking you're being quirky because you love ancient stuff soooo much that you forgot about the people it came from. You think about it so little you don't even realize that an actual Greek person has to read this shit, making it clear how little you actually care about the culture beyond the romanticized (and westernized) mythology. Don't claim you love Greece, don't use our mythology anymore if you can't acknowledge that we're still around without making it about how little you think about us. It's mind boggling that you'd think a Greek person would read this and think you're anything but obnoxious. Explode.

So there was a french animated film about the friendship between Icarus and the Minotaur last year and I was supposed to hear about it on the bird app?
I mean it’s literally not streaming anywhere yet nor does it have a home media release at this time but I would like to get hyped in hopes of one of those things happening eventually.

It has a good style! I would like to see the tragedy!

Quote
1. This is how the story goes. A boy raised in captivity falls in love with a sun he sees for the first time, flies too close thinking he can possess it, doesn't listen to a father's warning and plummets into the sea. His father grieves, so everyone grieves. The story is immortalised in the boy's blood, a tale passed down with silkdelicate care through eternity. 2. There is another story. In it a boy asks too many questions, lusts too much for more, dares to question his father's authority. He is banished from the skies, sent falling from the heavens but he does not die. Instead he is named ruler of all that is cruel, painful and wretched with the world. No one grieves for this boy, as he is deemed the root of all evil. 3. It is the way of the universe for boys to disobey their fathers, for children to question what they know and want more, more from their lives. 4. The way a father chooses to love after this happens is how the story is told. 5. This is the reason everyone weeps for Icarus. 6. It is also the reason no tears were ever shed for Lucifer.

(PLS DO NOT READ AS BATCEST)
Jason: alright Eurydice, calm down, no need to get stabby
Damian: I WILL— why am I Eurydice?
Jason: because… Bruce went to bargain for your soul? Obviously Orpheus failed, but eh.
Damian: and what would that make you?
Jason: Icarus. Duh.
Tim: does that make me Perdix?
Jason: no, Tim. Not everything is about you. Perdix is Stephanie
Bruce: but I didn’t push Stephanie off of a high building
Stephanie: you might as well have.
