Unintentional Comedy - Dragalia and Feh Artwork Edition
So, remember Alfonse, from FEH?
Y'know, this dude?
Tumblr media
For an okay crutch for those without Gala Euden or Albert or other handy light swords they didn't want to invest in, he was rather popular, only partly owed to any pre-established fondness FEH players had since they already knew him. People liked the more expanded personality we got than FEH's bare-bones story, additionally before they started trying to spice Alfonse up in more recent books.
In his story, however, one of the events that happening is Euden falling off a cliff, shortly followed by Alfonse.
Miraculously, cliff-falling isn't quite as dangerous in Dragalia Lost as in real life (also demonstrated by Leonidas in Stranded Scions, etc...), and the two survive. Alfonse has some sort of injury to his foot, however, conveniently hampering his ability to move but not much else.
Euden, being Euden and unwilling to throw anyone to the wolves, comes up with this idea:
Tumblr media
Nothing atypical here, right?
...Well, as it was revealed in a book published two years later than his debut in Dragalia, Fire Emblem Heroes Character Illustrations, Volume 1...
Alfonse is 180cm tall, AKA 5'11.
Tumblr media
...Is it any surprise coming from 195cm/6'5 and 180cm/5'11 parents? Someone check the Askran royal food for steroids that Sharena has apparently not been consuming, presumably because she's instead dining with heroes in the barracks.
I digress.
Now, as I've gone over before here, here's where it gets hilarious in retrospect.
In short, Ranzal, the resident big buff burly dude of Dragalia...is stated to be 6'1/185 in the joke comics.
Tumblr media
...And while literally nobody else got an even vaguely-official number to their height, Dragalia instead opting for a 'comparison heights' to keep track of who's shorter and who's taller in a pair... Euden often seems to wind up in the 150-155cm/5'0-5'1 range or even shorter when in illustrations with Ranzal:
Tumblr media
At most, I've seen him crack about 5'9/175cm in the comics, which aren't exactly a stable source of art, as demonstrated by these two panels, in which both seem to be on flat ground and standing pretty straight:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I need to stop before I mindlessly repeat the other post, but my point remains:
Euden, by most depictions, is tiny. A literal short prince/king.
And yet, no matter what way you slice it, he's trying to carry a dude that seems to be quite a bit taller, let's say. How much, we'll never know, but the fact remains he'd likely need to pull out a dragon phone to search 'how to carry people much taller than you?' just in case and hurriedly read a wikihow 10-step article explaining some strats, were it not for the fact that dragons would have destroyed smartphones in Dragalia a long time ago (good move, dragons....?).
I will admit that there are a few arts that frame them as the 'same height' but I would more point to the fact Euden, when drawn with crossover characters for promotional art, is usually portrayed on an 'equal footing', so as not to have one take up more space/attention. Also, the Feh team might not have even decided on a height for Alfy boy before!
Even then, he's still portrayed as shorter than 5'9/175cm Joker in some art:
Tumblr media
So yeah. Crossover art is not exactly consistent, and all I can do is look to the general trend in the 'canon game' of him being absolutely dwarfed by Ranzal.
Now, it's one thing for Euden to be lugging about Alfonse for a while.
The idea he might have done so with such a potential height disparity is pure comedy.
No wonder he's so tired after a while, lugging about another human who is both taller, heavier, and also wearing armor!
Not only that, he later tries and partly succeeds in fighting heavily armored soldiers (who are admittedly aiming to capture him and kill Alfonse) with Alfonse 'draped across his back like a sack of potatoes'. Talk about determination, adrenaline, and/or the simple principle of 'small but mighty'!
Tumblr media
Maybe that's why Alfonse was saying "I don't think that's wise" at the start there before he quickly found other rationale besides 'you sure you can give a piggyback without my feet dragging along the ground the whole way?'
My case rests, Your Honor: they unintentionally made part four of Alfonse's personal story a lot funnier to envision by publishing an art book 2 years after he first existed in Dragalia Lost!

Hiii! I hope you’re doing well! I was wondering if I could request Gorillaz x Singer!S/O? Like, they have a solo career, and occasionally collab with the band? I hope you have a great day, and thank you for your time whether you write this or not!<3
Gorillaz with soloist Singer S/O
WRITERS NOTE: Thank you so much, i hope you have a great day as well. Sorry about the bad grammar, my mod at the time is not active and sorry if I got to off track with the headcanons. Either way- I am so excited for my first request!
All art on this post is mine
Edited: At this time no, but will hopefully will be later
TW: Curssing, Drinking, Trama, Voilence, if I missed any tell me please and I will add it
Characters:
/Gorillaz/
Murdoc
Tumblr media
Murdoc straight up jokes about you replacing 2D(often right in front of 2D). And sometimes it doesn't feel like hes jokeing even if he is
He likes to chill back stage with you- which he expects automatically that he gets to be in the back because he's his S/O's boyfriend and because he's the leader of the greatest band ever- his words not mine
If/When you collab he was iffy on wether he wanted you to duet with 2D at first because he's a bit jealous
But he can't argue with what sounds good, and the voice of his amazing S/O, and the voice of the singer in HIS BAND is something that is he needs for his next album
Murdoc will always talk about how he could go solo too if he wanted to, once he learned his S/O was a solo act
If he drinks too much when you guys are hanging out he will start singing himself, and encouraging his S/O to sing with him
When recording he will give you as nice of criticism as he can if your not hitting the right notes or arn't in the right pitch- but satan forbit one of the others try to give you constructive criticism, especially 2D
Whenever he has nightmares about his childhood and his dad, and his S/O's around he finds it comforting if his S/O hummed to him but he won't ask you to hum to him though because he's scared that you'ed think he's weak
And if your not around when he's haveing a nightmare, he'll listen to one of your songs to calm himself down
If his S/O's a smaller and less well known singer- he will often tells his S/O how he can hook them up with good produser(even if S/O already has one) and anything that you as a smaller creator may not have access to, and will promote you sometimes like on an interview
And even if you are just as popular he can be a bit stuck up and will be like 'Yeah but, Gorillaz is little bit more popular'
Murdoc has mentioned before that he's glad that your a soloist, because he would feel bad for your band mates because of how bad you would out shine them
He wants to lay his head on you, and let you sing to him but he's to nervous
"Dove you have quite the voice, I'd love to have you on my next album."
Noodle
Tumblr media
Noodle is can be quite the extrovert, so she would love to go out and do karaoke with her S/O
Noodle was so excited when it was decided that her S/O and Gorillaz was going to collab, cuz it means being with her adopted family and her lover at the same time- she was just so happy to have the people she loved most in the same room
She almost tears up duing a live performance collab because everthing feels so perfect and amazing at that point in time she can't help be a bit emotional
Noodle will travel the world to see her S/O preform at concerts
She would be absolutely in love if her S/O could sing in different languages
She has all your albums, murch- everything
Noodle would be delited to help write your songs
ANY ONE WHO CRITICIZES HER S/O'S MUSIC WILL FACE HER WRATH, it doesn't matter if she likes the kind of music her S/O makes she will beat the shit out of anyone who is rude
She is your personal body guard, like why would you need a body guard when you have a Noodle
She introduced you to 2D and Russel before the collab because her S/O and 2D are both singers and she thought 2D needed a singer friend that wasn't connected through work, and Russel is her dad who did the most parenting so it was like a meet the parent situation Sorry Mudoc :/
She will ask her S/O to sing to her somtimes, most often when you two are alone
Noodle has a LOT of respect for her S/O because managing a music career by yourself can be quite hard, especially to her because she grew up in a band with other people so she could never imagine doing it alone
She like catching her S/O singing to themself when they are alone, because she loves to see her S/O flustered, and if you don't get flustered she still likes to see them surprised to see her
"Hey S/O, about our date- I was thinking.... karaoke!"
2D
Tumblr media
2D is ecstatic to have a S/O that is also a singer
He is just so happy to have someone to relate to
Before 2D even starts dating his S/O(like in crush faze) he would have already asked S/O to do a collab as a way to get closer with them
Like Noodle, 2D owns a lot of his S/O's merchandise not as much as her but still a lot
He likes to atend his S/O's concerts but prefers to watch back stage because while he loves his fans and fan interactions he also hates the idea of taking attention away from his S/O at his S/O's concert, and due to his very recognizable appearance he is likely going to draw attention to himself in a crowd of people
2D will blab to anyone who will listen about his S/O and their solo career as a singer, this is the case often in interviews where the interviewers ask about y'alls relationship
When talking with his S/O and his S/O's career as a singer he has forgoten he was a singer himself
2D tends subconsciously sing or hum to himself, and if his S/O joined him in his little tune he would melt into putty- though it would take him a hot second to realize that they where singing with them
He's fascinated by the fact that his S/O's are a solo singer, and often asks you about it, though he often gets off track with his questions
PLEASE write a love song about him, if you do his heart will die of happiness
When it comes time for the collaboration 2D gets distracted constantly, by his S/O, and their voice specifically
While 2D getting distracted in the studio isn't new, but him getting distracted while recording is, as he tends to hyperfixate on singing when recording- but now half way through the lyrics he just slowly stops and stares at his S/O like nothing else in the world exists- with a goofy euphoric grin on his face, and when S/O stops cuz he stoped he'll mutter out praise about S/O's voice/singing Much to the others dissmay
"Wow... ya have such'a pretty voice luv"
Russel
Tumblr media
Russel is a very supportive boyfriend
Out of all of the band mates he's the one that doesn't mind watching from the crowd the most- but much like 2D he doesn't like taking attention away from his S/O
If you show him the lyrics to a song you are working on he likes to suggest beats that might sound good with it
While Russel was happy to collaborate with his S/O, he's the least thrilled about it in the group- as he likes to balance his work life and home life as much as he can even though its really hard to so bring his love life into work life isn't exactly thrilling for him I mean did you see how it worked out for 2D
Russel is also the most professional when it comes time to collaborate with his S/O, like I said he tries to separate home life and work life and he does this by acting professional and trying to ignore the fact he is dating the person he is working with
Whenever the bands on tour and he misses his S/O he likes to listen to S/O's music even if it's not his type of music, but he usually won't really listen to the collab music at that time because it only makes him think of work(also no one but Noodle knows he does this)
And to add on to him and his S/O's music, Russel likes to suggest his S/O's music but he's very sublet about it
Besides actually collaborating as a work thing, he likes to help his S/O with their songs, whether it be helping with lyrics, what instruments to use, or with beats- though he rarely does this as he is usually he is exhausted with making music from work
He's overall just really chill about it in general, he's doesn't mind that your a soloist, and out of everyone he's the most neutral in that category
Though Russel sometimes jokes about how he's jealous that you don't have to deal with band mates and that he wishes he was a solo act or that he was in a band with his S/O instead
I mean Russel loves his band mates but sometimes they can be down right obnoxious *cough* 2D *cough* Murdoc
Also Russel likes helping his S/O pick out their stage outfit/make up for live performances and/or music videos
"Look'in and sound'en great hun."

Sugar Rush : August 2023 CPNs
Tumblr media
As with all other CPN posts that involve this lovely pairing, everything in here is speculation/interpretation based on popular concepts in the fandom. facts are also mixed in as well + events that happened before. This is not meant to “deceive or lie” to anyone. If it wasn’t clear, posts like this or similar to it are for cpfs only — and even other cpfs are encouraged to pick and choose what they believe in depending on what makes sense to them. You have to know some of the “lore” in this fandom to appreciate it, or be in that mindset wherein bjyx is probably/possible to be real.
These monthly round-ups, especially for August, have additional commentary and cpns that I didn’t share as an individual post for a variety or reasons. So there may be something “new” here for you.
Enjoy all the sugar! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
• rumor/cpn : XZ anonymously booked 26 cinema screenings in chongqing for yibo’s movie. the funny thing is there was a comment that if they find anonymous screenings for condor heroes movie in henan ( yibo’s hometown ) , they will join the bjyx supertopic 😂😂😂
this could be a different person but we cpn that it’s xz who booked since it’s in CQ. also whoever this was booked premium tickets and not discounted.
no one “released” a rumor or anything, some fans just noticed this while booking their tickets and found it interesting.
• another round of bottled joy cpns, this time around wyb’s alleged renewal with them on september and so much more
• reasons why we think the 26th bday letter post was from xiao zhan
• clues in the bday instagram post art
• fake rumor of wyb’s script having drawings
• XZ’s work week around WYB’s birthday
• Bottled Joy bday greeting to Yibo + Chen Shuo’s bracelet
• A cpf said yibo looked at their phone because her phonecase was a photo of wyb and xz. but again, this is not the proper behavior — following him around and shoving your phone in his personal space. I do not take this as candy, but for archiving purposes, it’s here.
Tumblr media
• Unintentional matching 😂😂😂😂
Tumblr media
• WYB plays card with Chongqing people 🃏
• Fake stories from paparazzi(s) who “followed” the boys back in 2018/19
• 8/11/2023 Rio Livestream candies
• 8/13/2023 LRLG 🍓🥝
• Yes please, drop more photos and do more similar captions with posts that are days or a week apart 👀
Tumblr media
• throwback : the best bottled joy cpn
• 8/13, WYB allegedly drove and went to XZ’s LOCH shoot. You may see some photos and videos that is allegedly the proof but you can’t even see the driver’s face. There’s also some talk that “WYB” was wearing a motorcycle helmet so there will be no chance people seeing him. I don’t know what to think. I understand how exciting it is, how hilarious that people even speculate about this and the fact that cpns like this is dangerous. i would hate for melon/yxh accounts to pick this up and get them in trouble. We already heavily speculate that they visit each other on set because or some clues we see — no need to dig and investigate too much. 🙏🏼
• In the morning of 8/17, Paparazzi were saying XZ and his co-star from the past are not real and have no chance. This went on #1 HS. As expected, XZS pulled some mild sweets. 18:33! YIBO ZHAN ZHAN!
YBO updated minutes later. But my favorite would have to be their second update with 22:30 AI AI ZHAN!
Tumblr media
• WYB became the first spokesperson for Pokemon Trading Cards, this is wonderful cause we know how they are big fans of it. I’m happy seeing them basically be the face of brands that they have always loved ( like chanel and gucci for example )
• 8/20/2023 YBO vlog candies 🧁🍭
• Yibo’s signature hand gesture confirmed to mean “wang”
• Qixi Festival number games
There is also some conversations that said XZ was not seen going to work that day. He & WYB could be working on Ad materials and other things, but that means they can go back home earlier. They don’t need a full day to spend Qixi together, tho that would be nice too. They just need time to be together on this romantic day. Maybe we will get more details in the months to come but we wish them all the happiness! 💕
• A new BTS on XZ sort of complaining about WYB/LWJ not looking at XZ/WWX with “yearning” as he walks away. This is so hilarious to me cause it’s so on point on what we have seen from XZ. He may be the calm & poised XZ to everyone but with WYB, he can act spoiled. He can demand more and be frank. The way he wants WYB/LWJ to show the kind of devotion he expects is just— why? why????? and you have WYB who will willingly spoil him and grant his every wish. ✨ A true example of XZ wanting the love WWX/LWJ have to happen to him too.
• similar “trick” of twirling a cloth by their fingers & how different they are
• revisiting the bts of XZ saying he prefers WYB with no makeup on ( he was just stating a universal truth that wyb is handsome even when he is bare faced )
• wool/felt doll cpn
• 8/25 XZS and YBO similarity
• revisiting the blurred background in ZZ’s mirror selfie 📷
• A wedding gift of t-shirts signed by the boys
• WHITE COUPLE SUITS! ☺️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• This month, I saw 2 questionable videos going around related to them. I do not endorse spreading these videos around but i can’t help that it pops up on my weibo feed and fans really have different etiquette when it comes to this. But i have to say that it should be a genera rule to not promote these proxy shooting because it’s too invasive. If they are hiding, we should not be the ones exposing them. They are already working enough as it is to keep their privacy. Please do not ask me for the video. I am mentioning it here for archiving purposes only.
One video is from WYB’s shoot of Luoyang, Lele & YanYan were assisting another guy aside from WYB with an umbrella. Why would they do that? We know the hiding by umbrella ploy was used before, like in SDC 3. So are they using the same tactic to protect this friend when he is visiting the crew?
Second one is at a hotel. Video is allegedly from a 🍤, they were more interested with XZ but they filmed WYB was also in the same hotel. XZ went in without any luggage too.
The videos are not clear at all, to the point that you can’t provide this as evidence in court that “based on this video it’s clearly wyb or xz” , so take it with a grain of salt.
• ZZ draws poker cards
• The start of everyone’s love for the AU pair Shengyang x Chen Shuo! This Sunshine couple! ☀️ These two are so passionate about their dreams, one with art and other w/ dancing. Their smiles. Their positive disposition. How can you not love them???
There is also the observation that SBMS premieres 9/1, conveniently when all the activities for Summer Movies, which includes OnO is done. This is not the first time this year that their projects were not released within the same period. It feels too much of a coincidence. This drama will be done in a month so i don’t know if WYB’s Bright Road can still squeeze in it’s airing before the year ends, tho i’m not optimistic cause drama licensing is tricky. Before LOCH gets released Spring Festival 2024. No matter what happens, All I know is BXGs are booked and busy!
• SOMEONE OPENED A WEBSITE THAT INCLUDES a very detailed timeline analysis of the BTS. If you’re into that and wanna go back & take a look then please do. It’s so interesting! Doing a day by day timeline of the BTS and events that happened, with photos and videos is tedious work so this is such a treat! 💕
-END. See you next Month!
Note : if you plan to reblog this post. Please do not tag it as “Wang Yibo” or “Xiao Zhan” because this does not belong there. It’s specifically for CP audience and tagging it on individual name will expose it to people who are not.

Works In Progress 2023: A Cyberpunk 2077 Year In Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought for a hot minute about doing one of those snazzy templates that’s been going around, but editing photos just ain’t my MO and rather than going by month I picked 12 favs that I’ve posted in 2023. Some of them were popular, some of them weren't. Overall, I think I did pretty good for just doing vanilla photomode on console.
You might be wondering why there's a picture of a sticky note. I don't remember when I started doing this, and I'm horribly inconsistent as you can see by the dates, but I'll jot down my word count for my wip chapter and then jot it down again when I remember to later.
I write slow. A lot of times I sit down to write and it feels like the wheels are spinning in place. My minutes and hours don't stretch very far, typically don't add up to much. But days, weeks, months. That's when I can at least measure the progress.
Fic: So It Goes 40/44 - 438,946 words
My V x River Ward and tinfoil hat conspiracy theory long fic. I've spent way more hours on this then I have on any of my VP.
I got tagged by @just-a-cybercroissant @therealnightcity and @wanderingaldecaldo to do some WIP Whenevers. I post my VP pretty regularly, so it’s always seemed silly to do work in progress posts for them, and I don’t know when I’ll have any new writing to share since in between work and the holidays, I haven’t had much time to sit down with anything since my last chapter update. And I've been feeling very... stingy, lately. Especially when it comes to mine and other people's writing. So take this WIP/Year In Review as my offering. Both these series, as am I, are all very much still works in progress.
I confined my reflections for this year below the cut. If you don’t want to read my long-ass essays, you can admire the pictures, maybe check out my fic, or just move along and have yourself a lovely day.
We’ll start with the easy one.
VP
After at least a year of multiple playthroughs (I’ve played all the lifepaths, done all the endings), it only occurred to me at the beginning of this year to start taking VP. Part of the reason I never did before was because I didn’t realize it was a thing and then by the time I did, I figured I didn’t have much to offer. I play on PS5 and only have access to vanilla photomode, so seeing everyone else’s high-fidelity, ultra ray-tracing, modded, posed, full on virtual photo shoot photos, I was like there’s no way. (Not that I’m hating on PC modders, it’s just not everyone has access to mods or a PC capable of running the game, and I’m all for making art and creative endeavors accessible.) On top of that, all I’d ever heard from most other folks was how much vanilla photomode sucked. In the glamorous world of VP, I didn’t think there was any room for me.
But I started snapping pics anyway. And sure, there are a lot of limitations with vanilla photomode. But what that really translates to is opportunities to get creative. I am also a hoe for subverting people’s expectations, and very much believe when there’s a will, there’s a way.
Environmental and landscape shots were my first subjects before I started branching out into portraits and then capturing story moments. Through VP I found an entirely new way to enjoy a game that I’d already played a ridiculous number of times along with also finally being brave enough to share my V with other people too. I’d always worried about that before, if people would like her. Granted, I know Grandpa’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but whether you like her or not, I certainly think she’s made a name for herself over the past few months. Even if most people haven’t really gotten to know her the way I’d hoped.
I’ve taken hundreds of photos this past year. Most of which I’ll never share. There’s a lot of flops, a lot of weird experiments, ones that didn’t quite turn out the way I’d hoped, but I’ve learned something from every single one of them. I know how to spot good lighting, frame shots to create optical illusions, get a very limited toolkit to work in my favor, parkoured on all of the things, and heck, I even figured out how to make Grandpa smooch other NPCs. I’ve done atmospheric, mundane, down right goofy, as well as things that most people probably thought weren’t fucking possible.
I can’t say how long I’ll keep doing this, I’m sure I’ll move on at some point, but for now I’m still enjoying myself. There's a lot to explore in this game and I just can’t stop digging Night City.
Now, for the more complicated thing.
Writing
So It Goes… My peace, my war, my greedy and most ravenous of ghosts.
I’m operating under the assumption that most people following me here probably haven't read my fic or aren’t all that interested in reading it to begin with. It’s fine. But you need to understand this fic, my writing, is the main thing that brought me here. This is also Grandpa V’s story. Most of you have met her, but unless you've been reading, most of you do not know her.
I wrote around 185,000 words and posted 10 chapters this year. 2022 was about 253,000 words and 30 chapters, along with several unrelated one shots. However, I don’t think I’ve done a single chapter this year that was less then 10k, and my longest managed to hit 27k. As of the last update I posted, the fic is currently sitting at around 439k words, 40 chapters, and still isn’t done.
I have four more chapters to write. I have written a metric shit ton of words. This is, by far, the longest and most intense creative project I’ve ever endeavored to complete.
When I started writing, I was expecting this fic to be around 100-150k. That seemed to be the average for most long fics. I did not plan on being an outlier. I'm not sure you can ever really plan for that, but I guess I enjoy subverting my own expectations too.
For those of you who are reading my fic, it is my sincerest hope that it shatters every expectation of where you think it’s going. It’s not a joke that I tagged my fic “#an ode to my tinfoil hat”. An ode it has turned out to be. I’ve been sitting on this theory for two years. I have told no one about it. I hope it sticks the landing and hits the way I want it to. I don't know if it will. But fuck, I just want to be done with it so I can move on with my life, take a break, and give myself the opportunity to make and focus on other things before I have to get back on the damn horse.
I wrote less this past year then I did in 2022. I had a lot of life changes, most of which were good, but with times of change come times of adjustment. Along with some realizations that maybe you don’t understand as much as you thought you did. Looking back, I’ve been in a state of unsettled, kuzushi, for a really long time. Which is not a good place to be. It’s how your ass ends up on the ground with a knee knocking out all your teeth. I thought I knew better. Thought I had enough practice to get away from it. But bad habits have good memories.
I think given the circumstances, I accomplished a lot with my writing this year. I don’t know if my writing is exactly where I want it to be. I doubt it every will be, but it’s evolved, grown, and I wrote a pretty hefty stack of words considering I started working full-time again, bought a house with my partner, moved, and have been dealing with the millions of other beans that life tends to throw one’s way. That being said, and for full disclosure, I’ve also been dealing with some of the worst cases of jealousy and envy I’ve had since I was a teenager.
Frankly, it sucks. They walk with me every fucking where I go, hold my hands to whisper back all my doubts. Try to persuade me to my baser instincts, to be cruel and lash out. But that's not aikido. Luckily, I’m not 16 anymore so it’s at least been easier for me to identify the problem. Though I’m still coming up short in terms of actually being able to do anything about it, and will be for at least a few months more.
Yeah, I keep talking about it because I don’t know how many people know that I've been feeling this way. And I’m tired of not talking about it in a room full of creatives, because yeah, I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. And not talking about it just makes all that pent up resentment worse for everyone.
Don’t get me wrong, I love writing. But with the way I work and think, it’s a slow, tedious, and incredibly time-consuming art. With how much my fic has snowballed over the course of writing, it’s left very little room for the other hobbies in my life. And as my fellow writers probably already know, writing is an incredibly insular craft. And unlike a picture or an image, which only requires a glance, reading a bunch of words requires time and commitment.
So, when you put yourself out there and share what you wrote, it’s a lonely feeling not knowing whether or not anyone connected with what you put on the page. Especially, when the people who do read aren’t compelled to voice anything and when the people you’d hope would read don’t. And then you're stuck in the dark, not knowing, because neither of us says a goddamn thing.
I started writing this fic prior to actually joining the CP2077 fandom. And I joined the fandom because I felt alone. I’ve been here a while now, albeit in a few different places, and that feeling still hasn’t gone away. I’m still trying to find camaraderie with my fellow writers and carve out something that kinda sort of resembles a home or a sense of community. I watch my peers around me as they seem to build that with each other, except me.
I’m envious of the things that people make and jealous of the relationships those have created and fostered between said people, because for the life of me, it’s been a struggle to cultivate that since I got here. I know it’s selfish, but I also don’t know what about me makes people so hesitant. There have been a handful of strangers that have shown up for me regularly, but as far as people I call friends in this fandom that have shown up and actually stuck around, I can only name one right now. (I know we're all busy. And I acknowledge my writing's not for everyone. I know maybe some of you are quiet, or shy, or probably a thousand other things. I get it. But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt any less. People will never know unless you say. Never know unless you take the time to interact or engage. Be brave. And that's true for a lot of things.)
The propensity is for the negative to outweigh the positive. I've got a lot of numbers on my fic, so you would think things would be fine, but at this point they just feel empty. They don't bring me any comfort or real satisfaction. And I hate feeling like the people I know don’t care and that most of you are just talking around me. That I’m some kind of annoyance not fit to interact with. Which may or may not be the case. I don’t know. Again, most of you have never said anything. And maybe I need to accept the fact that most of you never will.
But this is me trying to start conversation.
It’s really shitty, knowing that the thing I want the most is also the thing holding me back. I know how to work on it too, not that it’s any guarantee. The problem is I’m still writing and in a needy state of greed. And because I’m slow, I don’t have the time or the energy to be generous. I can only take right now. I can’t give.
Relationships require both.
I can’t bring myself to read other people’s writing. I can’t comment, or like, or share if I haven’t read anything. I'm desperate for conversation, but I also don't have the time or assurance to facilitate it with other people right now. And for some reason people never seem to want to talk to me, especially when it comes to writing. I want to be part of conversations, talk deeply with other people. But I can’t speak right now, I'm not in a place to offer generosity without someone first giving it to me.
And generosity and grace is what we all need.
Four more chapters and I hope my ghosts will finally let me read in peace.

some manga i've read
I have a LOT of manga in my room, so I thought it would be cool to tell you about some of them!
Tumblr media
Mr. Villain's Day Off
I first heard about this series when I saw its anime trailer on YouTube. Coincidentally, I found two books of the original manga in my local Barnes and Noble, so that's why I bought them! I like this series because it's a slice-of-life parody of the sentai genre, and I also appreciate the titular character's love of pandas! I even liked how each of the heroes had backstories.
Favorite Character: Mr. Villain
Tumblr media
X-Gender
This book was a great pick because it discusses queer topics in a respectful and informative manner. It is an autobiography about the author's experiences with their gender and sexuality, and if you're wondering what "x-gender" means, it's a Japanese term for being nonbinary.
Favorite Character: N/A
Tumblr media
Uramichi Oniisan
Oh my god. This series is HILARIOUS. All of the main characters have a dysfunctional, but harmonious dynamic when they work together on stage. Everything Uramichi does or says makes me cry and laugh at the same time.
Favorite Character: Uramichi Omota
Tumblr media
Heaven's Design Team
This is another series that makes me laugh, and I've seen clips of the anime before getting my hands on the manga. It reminds me of those "God creating animals" memes that were popular on Twitter back in the 2010's. It's peak edutainment, and each character has a very eccentric personality!
Favorite Characters: Venus and Yokota
Tumblr media
Kirby Manga Mania
I decided to give this one a try, because who doesn't love Kirby? The art style is bubbly and bright, and the humor goes off the walls! I find it weird how Kirby talks normally instead of going "poyo poyo" all the time.
Favorite Characters: Kirby and King Dedede
Tumblr media
Precarious Woman Executive Miss Black General
Yeezus, that's a long title. I picked this one out because I thought the art style looked cool. It's a story about a villainess with a crush on Totally-Not-Batman. I enjoyed the slapstick and the amazing character design.
Favorite Character: N/A
Tumblr media
Cells at Work!
Here's another edutainment anime. The depictions of each microorganism are really cool, and I liked the scenes where the cells had to fight off against nasty viruses! It even does a good job at explaining how the body works by providing bits and bobs of information throughout the panels.
Favorite Character: N/A
Tumblr media
Little Miss P
I've never seen a manga that talks about periods before, and I'm glad it exists. This book is relatable because I hate it when my period arrives, but I understand getting your period is normal. I'm quite fond of the messy art style, too.
Favorite Characters: N/A
Tumblr media
Merman in My Tub
I remember cheerily reblogging and liking posts about it last year, and I still love it to this day! All of the characters have vibrant personalities, and I really like the designs of each merman. This series is light-hearted and goofy, so that's why I think it's awesome.
Favorite Characters: Agari and Echizen
I'm gonna make two more parts later on. The second one will be about cats, and the third one will be about horror.

introducing: iyo
Tumblr media
sup! i’m iyo. i’ve had this account for a while, but finally decided to start using it. this is probably the most formal i’ll be for a while. also, a txt version of the image with more info is below in the cut!
introduction pt. 2
Tumblr media
general stuff
iyokko — any prns (they/them default, afab)
hi there! i’m a midwestern digital artist who also likes to dabble into worldbuilding. i’m quite busy with schoolwork and extracurriculars, but i like to make time to share my insane ramblings i have throughout the day.
i’ve got a lovely girlfriend! i’m fruity, unfortunately. i might talk about her occasionally, but i’ll try not to since this is the public eye.
i have a pretty poor attention span though, and i’ll probably appear periodically on this account. when that happens, i’m still alive! feel free to send me stuff.
Tumblr media
fandoms
here are some of my interests as of late:
murder drones
aphmau (why i joined tumblr! was a mystreet and minecraft diaries kid growing up.)
alice in borderland
extraordinary attorney woo
wings of fire + fantribes (also a wof kid! still am. make most of my extra cash through the ever-popular fantribes on discord.)
blue lock (manga)
beastars + beast complex (both manga)
oshi no ko (manga — stopped reading it for now since it’s gone off on the deep end)
hallow knight
danganronpa (the disease infected me in middle school and it’s sadly rotted in my head permanently)
one piece (just got into it! wish me luck)
warrior cats (read this at the same time as wof and aph. no wonder i came out so gay)
other stuff too! this is just from the top of my head.
Tumblr media
qna
what brought you to joining tumblr?
aphmau brought me here! i saw the community, and as a lifelong aphmau fan—with a rewrite in the works by the way—i just had to join in. tumblr’s been on my radar for a while now to join!
what/when will you post?
i’ll be generally posting my art and ramblings! unfortunately, i probably won’t have a very set schedule, but i’ll try to post at least once or twice a week.
what should i stay for?
if you like my personality or art style, then you should stick around! i can’t promise i’ll be talking about every fandom i’m in, but a few that have always stuck with me are danganronpa, aphmau, and wings of fire. those three will probably continue being posted about throughout my tumblr career, so if you like that sort of content, i might be up your alley.
my inbox—is it open?
it’s currently open! but please be patient with me, i’ve only ever lurked on tumblr before. actually using it is currently a mystery i’m uncovering.
any sideblogs to be aware of?
currently i have one other account for my mcd and myst rewrite! it’s called @iyo-mcd-rewrite! hopefully the link worked for that—if not, you’ll often see me reblog posts from it.
i might make others for my two other big fandoms (wof and danganronpa), but for now they’ll be contained in this main one!
do you have other accounts?
discord — iyokko
instagram — iyokko__
toyhouse — iyokko
twitter — iyokko185998
where do i contact you?
i’m most active on discord and toyhouse, but if you dm me on insta or email me, i’ll get it at a later date! twitter i am at a loss for on dms. that’s all for now!

It's that time again! Tell me about some of your favorite blogs, why they are your favorite, and tag them to fill the dashboard with positivity and love!
a selection of some of my faves in no particular order, of course 💌
@heroesbyler — my wife, my dearest, and my mike. one of my first friends in this fandom and someone that i trust so much i'd give her my social security number if she asked. stav is super intelligent (in so many ways), kind, funny, thoughtful, brave, and observant. her analyses punch me in the tit and kill me dead. she speaks clearly and with conviction. she stays true to her beliefs and doesn't say or do things just to appease the masses, which is, for whatever reason, a rarity in this fandom. a lovely person inside and out, really and truly—her kindness and empathy blows me away, and makes my heart feel all fuzzy. my mom's a big fan based on what i've told her dfjdshb. a great blog to follow if you want to take a deeper look at the characters on our screens, not just will and mike, and how all of the themes, messages, and journeys in this show reinforce each other. also if you like to laugh. :')
@miwism — mal is the most creative person i've had the honor of meeting in this fandom. super kind, super funny, and super inventive. one of the very few people that have managed to make me laugh out loud—and not just once, but repeatedly. so many posts that i'll randomly remember months later and bust out into giggles over. best fics, best art, best posts, best ideas, and best additions to your posts, too. seriously, mal, i've secretly wondered if you've ever done improv before because your ability to take an idea and expand on it is just that great. i love them, i want to hug them, and if they asked me to drop everything on a thursday to go to publix with them, i would. idec if it'd take me hours to get there, i Would and it'd be worth it. 💚
@wiseatom — just thinking about her fics makes me tear up on the spot. i've cried after reading her work multiple times, even on rereads, because a) they were so good that i felt devastated that it was over, and b) i would never experience that magical First Time Reading feeling again. thea's just overall talented out the fucking wazoo—like, it's actually insane. she's a talented writer, a talented artist, a true creative, so eloquent, so charming, and such a delight. i could never meet her irl and keep my composure because i would just be on my fan behavior without a way to turn it off. she'd try to talk to me and i'd just be staring at her dreamily like this: 😍🥹😊🥰💕.
@sayyourprayers — if nobody got me, i know they got me. 🫂 even when i think i'm being sneaky, they still know exactly what i'm talking about, which i am choosing to believe is a part of our superior warriors bond as well as them being very smart, and not just me being as easy to read as a toddler book. they're very funny and very straightforward. no bullshit whatsoever. i always read their tags and replies, and find them to be really insightful and witty. they're another individual that has their own beliefs and interpretations and doesn't change them based on what's currently popular or not. i like that, because i personally hate when shit starts sounding like an echo chamber. overall, i just really love their blog! i always, always tune in to see what they have to say and i find myself smiling whenever i see them in my notes.
@googoogagaeyes — doozy's another real one. she describes herself in her intro post as a lover and a hater and i couldn't agree more (in the best way possible, of course). i think she has a very text-focused and holistic way of tackling the show: she talks about the good, the bad, and the neutral, which i find to be refreshing and desperately needed. i always read everything she writes, whether it's in the tags or in the post itself, and either learn something, laugh, or, as is usually the case, do both. speaking of which, her analyses are always to the point and written in such a way that the reader feels respected. she doesn't drone on or fluff it up, which i appreciate. super eloquent, intelligent, and funny. very much a necessary follow if you enjoy this show and excellent commentary tbh.
@alastyearonearth — alfreddddd ✋🥺 (<- me putting my hand on the screen like the wives of soldiers at war do in dramatic movies)....... oh, alfred. if there's anyone i'm normal about, it's him 👍 (lies) (biggest lie i've ever told in my life actually) (my pants are currently on fire right now) (🚒🧯👨‍🚒 <- they're here to put me out). i feel like my feelings for him and his blog can be summed up by the fact that when i realized we both went on vacation at around the same time, i was ecstatic because that meant i wouldn't miss his posts. bdfhjbsdkj. he's one of the biggest brains and most generally knowledgeable people here, and it rocks my world every time he says anything. he has an appreciation for canon and the real people whose stories are represented within it that this fandom sorely, and ironically, lacks. also, while i'm on my fan behavior right now, allow me to admit that i would go through his blog sometimes for months before i finally put on my big kid pants and followed him. i'm very much not beating the parasocial allegations and tbh i think it's understandable bc Hello !!!! look at him!!!! (gesticulates wildly in his and his posts' direction). 10/10 would ruin my sleep schedule for him, submit myself to the torture of a 24hr flight for him, go on a museum marathon together, and slather myself in superglue right before hugging him so that we're stuck together forever afterward. necessary follow for anyone that likes to not get pissed off when they log on and enjoys canon, esp will. alfred please can we hang out please alfred whenever you're free please if you'd like to hang out can we please hang out when you are free ple—
@motherthroat — you know that andrew garfield "(you didn't know me at thirteen) i really wish i had" quote? it applies here, because i so wish i'd met him last summer. liking canon will, mike, and byler used to be so lonely and frustrating, but now it isn't anymore and that's largely because of him. if you haven't caught on by now, i like following people that are very frank, and mori's no different. he's not afraid to be bold either. i love his art, his AUs, and his takes. he's funny, treats you the way you treat him, and has a great eye for aesthetics. well. a great eye in general, i think. not to get #deep (or repetitive), but i think he sees more than he lets on, and it really comes out in his art, his headcanons, his interpretations, and the way that he speaks to people. he remembers things and really ponders them. there's a kind of carefulness there that i admire as someone with as much grace as a bull in a china shop. just a cool cat, really.
@cosmobrain00 — MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX! (screamed the same way that will screamed for mike on halloween night). they're literally so talented that it's not even funny anymore. like, their writing is next level and the fact that we can read it for free (wtf!!!!) feels like a crime. their art is so pleasing to look at and i love their style so much. their thoughts on this show and these characters are superb, too. so passionate, so kind, and so loving—and it shows in everything they do. it's always a good time whenever they decide to share their two cents and spit some divine wisdom on us plebs, so i definitely recommend everyone check them and their content out!
@drangues — arush is literally [starts snarling and hissing and snapping and howling at the moon and other cuteness aggression-related things]. sorry, i meant to say he's so bhjfbkdsjhfbdks grrrrrrrr bark bark bark awooooooooo. just unbelievable. unreal. the blueprint. he's my cousin and my friend and my son and my stinkie squishie and also my greatest enemy and bully (he's only consented to two of these, but they're still true). seriously... arush is SO funny. his headcanons are wonderful and #real, his artwork is insanely good and creative and colorful, he's so sweet and silly, and thoughtful and merciful, too. just !!!!!! squishing his face in all ways except physical right now. if you're not following arush drangues then you deserve to get sent straight to the scorpion pit, i feel.
@givehimthemedicine — effortlessly hilarious, kind, bright, and oh so talented in a variety of ways, both creatively and intellectually. and they have the nerve to make it look easy!! like wtf!!! they're also the most likely to drop the most insane observations ever and act like they didn't just change the trajectory of your life forever. pure insanity, i say. they're my favorite blog outside of the byIer bubble and their el's first haunted house post is easily in my top three and i still giggle over it.
@mikeandwillel — when sandy speaks, i listen and take notes. simple as that. a true mike understander and knower. she's posted wonderful analyses on many topics, all of which are super concise, text-based, and show a thorough understanding of storytelling. i love hearing her thoughts on this show and her interpretation of things. i'm especially excited to see what she thinks once we start getting s5 crumbs! oh, and she also posts great edits! :D
@aemiron-main — if loving em is wrong, then i don't wanna be right. if it becomes illegal tomorrow, then call me el because my ass is going to jail asap. he's one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people on this website. he's always open to discuss things, look at them from a different angle, and share his knowledge. i can't even say that he treats people the way they treat him, because he treats them a lot better. if anything, he's extremely merciful and forgiving lol. he has a wealth of knowledge on a multitude of subjects, an extremely keen eye, and seemingly endless creativity / an open mind. literally a modern day sherlock, but much cooler. also very resilient and tough. and an outstanding artist, too! (what can't he do, sheeeesh!). he's written analyses on what feels like everything about the show at this point, so i'd definitely recommend going through those if you haven't already.

[CN] ASMR Transcript - Soft Words
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for an ASMR, 细语, which has not been released in EN! 🍒
Tumblr media
This little space where the both of you can snuggle against each other is the entire world.
[ Released in CN: 9 December 2022 ]
[ sound of running water ]
I’ve washed the dishes.
Why are you lying down?
If you lie down right after eating,
Your stomach would feel uncomfortable.
It’s better to sit up for a while before sleeping.
Hm? You’re too tired after eating and don’t feel like getting up?
[ chuckles ]
Come on. I'll carry you.
[ rustling noises ]
It feels like a long time since
We last spent the weekend in such a leisurely manner.
Lately, we’ve either been busy over the weekends
Or having fun outside.
We haven’t had time to have an afternoon nap together.
Didn’t you say
That you’ve been wanting to watch a TV series?
Want to watch it now?
It could pass the time.
Mm. I’ll look for it.
Hm... “The 365 Days of Little Transparent”.
“Slacking Off At Work”.
The titles of TV series these days
Are becoming increasingly novel.
“Rebirth of the Female Official.”
Are you sure you want to watch this?
Sure.
It’s not that I dislike it.
I’m fine with anything.
The things I enjoy watching
Aren’t really suitable for watching before an afternoon nap.
This one’s just right.
I remember that this TV series has been really popular recently.
During my afternoon breaks,
I often see Hang Jie engrossed in it.
She even teased me
About how I can’t keep up with trends.
But
Tomorrow,
She won’t have the chance to say that.
[ TV series noises ]
Is sitting uncomfortable?
You’re too full?
Sit a little closer.
I’ll give you a rub.
[ Gavin breathing noises ]
It tickles?
What if I use this amount of force?
I’m not tired.
All you have to do is relax.
This TV series seems very similar to those novels you read from before.
Based on typical tropes,
The female protagonist will probably have another chance at life.
And overcome many obstacles
And take counteractions the whole way through.
My guess is correct?
In that case, could I ask for a reward?
[ kiss ]
Mm.
This works.
Hm? Why are you frowning?
You’re asking about why the female protagonist didn’t return the attack?
Because it wasn’t the right time.
Although she lived again
And knew about what would happen in the future,
She hadn’t built up sufficient abilities.
That’s why she chose to hone her strength.
Mm.
I heard about what happened in the later portions from Sis Hang.
Okay.
No spoilers.
But after you’ve watched it,
You’d probably be filled with energy.
My thoughts?
I find it okay.
There wasn’t enough guidance when it came to the martial arts.
But it has a well-knit plot.
It’s no wonder everyone enjoys watching it.
But
Why is it that whenever the male protagonist looks at the female protagonist,
He glares at her?
To get her attention?
I see.
Why are your eyes getting bigger too?
You’re not tired anymore?
The male protagonist is so handsome
That you can’t see anything else?
Nope.
I’m not jealous.
Whether he’s good-looking is a separate thing.
His acting is passable.
The first episode has ended.
You can go to sleep now.
[ rustling noises ]
Hm? You don’t want to sleep?
You want to watch another episode?
Because the male protagonist is too handsome?
Is he very handsome?
I can do whatever he can.
That move he used earlier -
It’s just a basic wrestling technique.
It restrains the other party by controlling the joints,
But doesn’t cause pain to the other party.
This move appears to be an attack
But it’s actually used for protection.
It’s very suitable to be used on a special “target” who is under arrest.
[ intense rustling noises ]
For example,
Using it against someone who isn’t willing to take an afternoon nap.
[ Gavin chuckles ]
It's too late to surrender.
Mmhmm. Playing coy won’t work.
[ Gavin in pain noises ]
That counterattack was pretty good.
It’s deft
And struck a weak spot.
But...
[ rustling noises and Gavin noises and a kiss ]
It’d take a little more
For it to become a “one-hit kill”,
Keep it up.
I’ll teach you.
Bring your hand a little upwards.
Yes.
Right here.
Mm... Give it a try.
[ Gavin heavy breathing noises ]
Mm. You learn pretty quickly.
[ Gavin heavy breathing noises ]
Does this count as my weak spot?
When I’m with you,
Yes.
If it’s anyone else,
They won’t have this chance...
All of my weaknesses
Are only open to you.

Your posts on Saitama and food made me really sad. But it makes more sense that he is drawn like this now. I thought it was just a shift in style. Because even Genos looked babyish in the first chapters. But buff characters were always buff and were drawn buff. Saitama though... He looked like a baby but really slender. Lean but thin. Imagine what can eating good food do to you in two months. No wonder he started looking so bodacious
Ofc I am not discounting art style change from the picture, which is honestly more likely that Murata-sensei has just gotten better at drawing Saitama and the style in drawing Sai has shifted and that's all there is to. He might've just gotten a new reference body style to draw from. We've seen Saitama drawn really buff and detailed before, when they took the hero test, so it's nothing new. It's more apparent in the anime when he's drawn with even more bulging muscles.
Tumblr media
Whether there is anything to this is up for speculation, but I would not discount proper nutrition from the equation. Nutrition is important and will always be important. But it might not be in the exact way we think it is. Something that I also thought about after making that one particular post.
Whether or not this post invalidates my previous post about Saitama not getting his fill when eating because his body physioque demands is up to you. I'm going to go fairly off-tangent (or not) here if you'll allow me haha. This gonna be a long post.
About Saitama and his self-image and how it's possibly portrayed in the manga and anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imo, the real change between this Saitama and the Saitama we saw on the moon of I.O seems to be in how Saitama appears to see HIMSELF, when he actually gets serious. Or, how OTHER people are able to perceive him.
It is a shift in the mindset of his self-image.
Residual self-image is the concept that individuals tend to think of themselves as projecting a certain physical appearance or certain position of social entitlement, or lack thereof. The term was used at least as early as 1968, but was popularized in fiction by the Matrix series, where persons who existed in a digitally created world would subconsciously maintain the physical appearance that they had become accustomed to projecting.
Tumblr media
"Show me no mercy."
That is, when he does not hold himself back. He's drawn the same when he's just there, being goofy, not very serious and holding himself back from going all-out. You can almost overlap the images with below manga panel.
There is a subtle difference though. His hero suit is more form-fitting. Because suits in this universe answer to the bearer's feelings. So he seems to be more heroic, instead of comedic.
Art style change or not? You decide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, he was messing with you Garou. Because you too, were just playing around being a monster.
However when Garou became a true monster, Saitama stopped playing around and holding himself back. And upon doing that, became morally dubious when he tried to punch Garou and destroyed moon and jupiter.
Even Garou wonders what the hell is this monster at the end. Speculation can be made whether Saitama is simply letting his innate monster side show because he legitimately wanted to kill Garou. The egoism and superiority complex would be that monster side, when he assumes that mindset of superiority. Something that he seems to be hiding well. More on this later.
Tumblr media
The point I am trying to make here though is that it is quite possibly that the beefiest Saitama's physical appearance is not even a product of his physical conditioning. He appears just the same as ever...except when he is exerting his power. Then he gets the bodacious body.
One could say he's just exerting his muscles and that is also true, but tbh it doesn't seem to be all that. That's just appearances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And technically, does he even need to exert his physical muscles if he's going to punch with divine power? I mean, it would explain why he doesn't get physically tired. His mental stamina is just sky high.
But not actually endless, because when he was running around all day, visualizing and looking for any bad guys in the anime episode, at the end of the day he had to take an actual breather. Which lines up with what we know about current Saitama and his exponentially growing power.
(a close look at the fist of god in that last panel, his divine power, I love small anime details like this)
I think Genos says it he best.
"You are so...full of shit!" "That's just standard strenght training! And it's not even that intense! Anyone could do it!" "I have to get stronger. I didn't ask to study under you so I could listen to your jokes!"
"Saitama-sensei, your power...is clearly beyond what you can achieve by just training your body!
And he's right, anybody could do it. Saitama's standard strenght training. Other people do far more. Garou has been training for years upon years of intense martial arts like Bang to get that body of his. What Saitama thinks is strenght training is an actual joke, the punchline if you will.
We arrive to the heart of the issue. Saitama's strenght was never anything that could be achieved by training his body.
Ergo, it means that by further strenght training, he could still not achieve a better body via just doing his strenght training, even with better nutrition. He already hit his peak body via that strenght training alone.
Tumblr media
Ain't nobody gonna get biceps, pecs and sixpack like that with Saitama's strenght training lmao. Even if he ate well and nutritious food. Who are we even kidding? xd
But he hasn't trained differently either, just added punching monsters to his list and doing his training instantaneously. At least, I don't think he could achieve it like that with normal power.
Instead, I believe it's all just his cognitive power at play. Chances are, by altering his self-image, he has unconsciously also altered his body to match. If it's just appearance or actual physicality, not entirely sure. Which is a positive outcome but...
The depiction of Saitama in Jupiter is basically how Saitama saw himself and how he is able to be perceived. It's the power of his cognitive levels rising exponentially, the whirlpool of heaven stripped bare with the catalyst of emotional surge (as Murata-sensei tweeted) and let loose. (The depiction of Jupiter's red spot swirling around Saitama's head is a really nice artistic touch tbh.)
But it also wasn't a very nice Saitama was it? That superiority complex.
Tumblr media
As the fight progresses, so does Saitama become more and more buff, but he's dissociating hard at the same time too and then back to his dopey self and not feeling or caring about a thing.
People with low self-esteem have a tendency to fixate on their body image. And Saitama is self-conscious, we know that from all the times when he gets self-conscious about his bald head. But since Saitama has...interesting powers, he fixates and alters his body quite literally in accordance to his self-image.
Aside from having low self-esteem, sufferers typically fixate on altering their physical appearances. Such behavior creates body dissatisfaction and higher risks of eating disorders, isolation, and mental illnesses in the long term.[2] In Eating Disorders, a negative body image may also lead to body image disturbance, an altered perception of the whole one's body. Body dissatisfaction also characterizes body dysmorphic disorder, an obsessive-compulsive disorder defined by concerns about some specific aspect of one's body (usually face, skin or hair), which is severely flawed and warrants exceptional measures to hide or fix. Often, people who have a low body image will try to alter their bodies in some way, such as by dieting or by undergoing cosmetic surgery. On the other hand, positive body image consists of perceiving one's figure clearly and correctly, celebrating and appreciating one's body, and understanding that one's appearance does not reflect one's character or worth.
Speculation can be made whether Saitama also subconsciously hides his true face behind that goofy face of his, because his lack of hair has become a complex. And why there seems to be such few witnesses to how he really looks and other people attempting to perceive his true self, will find themselves stumped and confused (or what appears to be his true self or Wounded Healer archetype).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I've never heard Genos sound as confused as this lol, his brain is doing that apple loading screen)
(Can we get more of this Saitama look because the King panel is one of my fav Saitama faces by far, he looks sooooo goood)
Within Shinto it is believed that the nature of life is sacred because the kami began human life. Yet people cannot perceive this divine nature, which the kami created, on their own; therefore, magokoro (真心), or purification, is necessary in order to see the divine nature. This purification can only be granted by the kami. In order to please the kami and earn magokoro, Shinto followers are taught to uphold the four affirmations of Shinto.
By purification, it means with tears, since in Japan, salt water acts as purifier. Then they can perceive the true nature of Saitama.
Saitama's view on self-image is also probably the reason he doesn't scar, when other people did during their training. The only other reason would be that he can actually regenerate like monsters can, but it can definitely contribute to his poor self-image if he thinks it as monster-like quality he just happens to possess and associates it with being evil and monster-like. It might just be metabolism. But we can also speculate upon that. Other people perceive him with "eyes of a dead fish"-look and mostly negatively.
Saitama is the only character in the series who seems to flip-flop between actual looks when it's not for a comedic reason. Even between same page. Nobody else's facial features or musculature change so drastically, besides like Tatsumaki for caricatyre reasons.
Comedy is one thing, but Saitama changes in inverse to that, when he gets serious. So it's probably a serious reason.
Tumblr media
You may notice how buff his arm seems to be on upper panel, but then we're back to slim arm. Then the panel with Genos where he looks at Saitama's profile and next Saitama panel we're back to dopey.
I've honestly gone very off tangent and idk if it's interesting or not... but here is where the proper nutrition and new lifestyle changes comes into play.
Evolution wise, our brain size started to increase once humans managed to acquire calorie-rich and difficult to acquire food and behavioural and social changes.
The temporal lobes, which contain centers for language processing, have increased disproportionately, as has the prefrontal cortex, which has been related to complex decision-making and moderating social behavior. Encephalization has been tied to increased starches and meat in the diet, however a 2022 meta study called into question the role of meat. Other factors are the development of cooking, and it has been proposed that intelligence increased as a response to an increased necessity for solving social problems as human society became more complex. Changes in skull morphology, such as smaller mandibles and mandible muscle attachments, allowed more room for the brain to grow. The increase in volume of the neocortex also included a rapid increase in size of the cerebellum. Its function has traditionally been associated with balance and fine motor control, but more recently with speech and cognition. The great apes, including hominids, had a more pronounced cerebellum relative to the neocortex than other primates. It has been suggested that because of its function of sensory-motor control and learning complex muscular actions, the cerebellum may have underpinned human technological adaptations, including the preconditions of speech.
It has been suggested that the changes were mainly social and behavioural, including increased empathic abilities, increases in size of social groups, and increased behavioral plasticity. Humans are unique in the ability to acquire information through social transmission and adapt that information. The emerging field of cultural evolution studies human sociocultural change from an evolutionary perspective.
Once he got proper nutrition of meat, starch and vegetables to actually supplement his overall training, it is not just his physioque that grew, it was the cognitive levels too. Possibly the sensory-motor control that is developed in infancy that is referenced to as the Inner child in omake, his ability to understand causality, time and space. Big brain time basically. Mind expansion.
Intelligence is present; motor activity but no symbols; knowledge is developing yet limited; knowledge is based on experiences/ interactions; mobility allows the child to learn new things; some language skills are developed at the end of this stage. The goal is to develop object permanence, achieving a basic understanding of causality, time, and space.
But chances are, other concepts that cognition develops as it matures apply.
Concrete operational stage Elementary and Early Adolescence (7–12 years) Logical and systematic form of intelligence; manipulation of symbols related to concrete objects; thinking is now characterized by reversibility and the ability to take the role of another; grasps concepts of the conservation of mass, length, weight, and volume; predominantly operational thinking; nonreversible and egocentric thinking
But it wasn't just that. It was the increase in pleasurable social stimulation that allowed him to reach the height of his cognitive levels and actually gain the self-image to match. Or able to showcase the self-image that actually physically matches his real body physioque.
However, when it comes to nutrition and Saitama's powers, it was even more vitally important that he get the proper nutrition and social requirements to sustain himself. He was training hard not just physically, but mentally. It was so taxing he went bald. That kind of stress on the brain can't have been healthy.
Tumblr media
This guy looks like death warmed over him. Pig God also has ability that turns his body fat into source of fuel for his powers and what might be his life-energy. Giving that up to Tank-top master made his entire physioque shrink.
Body needs some kind of fuel as energy to continue metabolizing and working normally. When Saitama was just eating banana in the morning and something like idek rice on eggs for supper? It's not enough. Maybe he could be able to persevere on such a diet if he was normal human and just not have any gains on physioque, but he's nowhere near being normal. He just plain forced himself to change.
He has divine power that was also constantly stressing his brain, his cognition and when he was doing hero work, if he was to expend all that emotional energy in cathexis and blow up stuff, it would also require him to produce same amount of energy to match. Equivalent exchange, Full Metal Alchemist style.
My hypothesis is that his body had started to cannibalize itself because it simply did not have enough resources to use as fuel. Not from food nor from socialization.
By draining his emotions and possibly other cognitive skills as fuel for his divine power instead and causing his apathy. Yikes.
Because he always expells his serious punches in anger and he always feels less stressed or even no emotions at all after serious punch. By forcing himself to change and using his divine power, he rapidly sped up his metabolism and cognitive thought processing and suffered because he was poor financially and poor socially to give himself enough water and sunlight to grow like the Cactus metaphor.
It was worse when he had no energy for the Garou fight, after walking all day in dark caves with zero food and he was irritable and exploded immediately and uncontrollably when he saw his entire social circle had been killed.
Chances are, Saitama might just wither away eventually if he actually lost that social circle...that's how one can defeat Saitama, by striking a dead blow to his heart. If they can get past Saitama's powers, that is.
If the beefy Saitama is his current true image? Body image wise, that's great. It means that he has stopped cannibalizing himself from the inside out and he's now getting enough nutrients and meeting his energy requirements sufficiently enough that his self-image is now relatively normal. And has stopped having a "mostly" negative view of himself.
But there's still a reason why he tries to hide it so much and why it only seemingly comes out when he becomes serious. And even then, in only few rare scenarios.
He deems his abnormal strenght, his full power and divine powers, as something monstrous. Because of the scenarios where he has to use it.
Tumblr media
The times when he realises that he cannot show mercy to an individual and is forced to possibly kill them.
"Bla bla bla. Are you done? With this fight?"
Saitama is not trying to taunt Boros, at least not in the way we think. He's trying to dissuade him from continuing the fight, so he would not have to kill him. Because he empathised heavily.
But Saitama does not kill people, it's against his morals. He only kills things he deems as monsters. Evil things who have turned their beings against humanity. But he may not truly feel like monsters deserve killing either and he feels he's forced to do it if he's to continue to be a hero and protect humanity and he's become desentized to killing monsters, though this is speculation.
It is the look of a person who is world-weary. A thousand yard stare. When heroism didn't turn out to be like he thought it would be.
Possibly the reason he never seems to feel fully like a Hero and why he's envious of people like King and even Garou to extent. And why he feels weird for trying to pretend to be a Hero. The loneliness he feels because he seems alone in his dilemmas. Being and feeling monstrous while doing something you're passionate about.
There is nobody he can relate with. When he finds someone he can relate with, he really wants nothing more than to spare them.
Tumblr media
There is a quote from Deadpool that seems fitting, which I found from youtube comments when watching Totally not Mark's video how Saitama redefines heroism. I recommend watching btw, its a great video.
"Four or five moments, that’s all it takes. To be a hero. Everyone thinks it’s a full-time job. Wake up a hero. Brush your teeth a hero. Go to work a hero. Not true.
Over a lifetime, there are only 4 or 5 moments that really matter. Moments when you’re offered a choice. To make a sacrifice, conquer a flaw, save a friend… spare an enemy. In these moments, everything else falls away."
Which feels very poignant, considering how Deadpool also looks under the mask. Appearing as Hero on the outside, but a monster on the inside.
Another point of view is that the reason for Saitama's apathy and losing his humanity is because of how Saitama started to view himself as; a person with less humanity because he felt monstrous doing his hero work and less emotions when he was constantly locking up his emotions behind a facade of apathy just to deal with his conflicting feelings. So it started to became part of his self-image and the person he views himself as. If you believe in it hard enough, it must be true right? Which is honestly just as bad as your own body eating itself out on the inside. Both can be true interpretations.
We've not even arrived to the debate about what makes monsters evil and deserving of the death blow. Who's to decide whether or not Manako for instance, deserves to die? Saitama or Amai-mask? Is Manako evil enough monster that she would have to die or good enough to live? We will probably discuss this come Amai-mask arc.
Saitama sees the world as black and white more often than not. People, monsters and himself. At least when he is losing his touch with humanity.
Psychoanalytic theory posits that an individual unable to integrate difficult feelings mobilizes specific defenses to overcome these feelings, which the individual perceives to be unbearable. The defense that effects (brings about) this process is called splitting. Splitting is the tendency to view events or people as either all bad or all good.[1] When viewing people as all good, the individual is said to be using the defense mechanism idealization: a mental mechanism in which the person attributes exaggeratedly positive qualities to the self or others. When viewing people as all bad, the individual employs devaluation: attributing exaggeratedly negative qualities to the self or others
Tumblr media
He gave that same thousand yard stare look at Garou that he gave to Boros, multiple times even. Feeling like a monster because all he wanted to do is kill Garou to revenge Genos and dissociating from his feelings entire so he wouldn't be able to feel the pain. So he clung to the last vestige of humanity on his palm.
Tumblr media
When he lets out a less than ideal side of himself loose on the opponent to do what he feels passionate about, acting out in justice, but struggles with feelings of shame and guilt over his actions because he also feels like a monster while doing so against a person who he can't box neatly into what he depicts as morally evil. And feelings of guilt and shame for in this instance, trying to carry out justice by serious punching Garou to smithereens despite Tareo asking him not to and the end result almost destroying earth. And lastly, feelings of guilt and shame over enjoying his hero work to alleviate his boredom.
If Garou wanted to become absolute evil by transforming from human to a monster, Saitama parallels that by wanting to become to the opposite; absolute good by transforming from monster into a human. Something essential in humanity he feels like he has lost. He never felt like he fit into society anyway and he feels let down like Hammerhead and one foot away from becoming like one.
And it has become a self-perpetuating cycle; alleviating his emotional pain by engaging in impulsive behaviour to relieve it and then feeling shame and guilt. Then it becomes automatic response.
Because being passionate about Hero work also saved him and gave him means to vent out his negative feelings like anger, emptyness and depression so he did not succumb entirely and he could connect with his passions again. It gave him a sense of purpose and means to change himself.
Tumblr media
In all honesty, Saitama seems to suffer from Borderline Personality-disorder, and more than likely ADHD and all of this undiagnosed but that's another topic entirely. Speculation can be made again whether it's related to when he first gained his powers as infant, related to his powers in general which causes similar symptoms to arise or if he always had these qualities, but we'll need more information about his past to be sure.
Tumblr media
(that impatient foot tapping can point to symptoms of adhd yeap, same as his inability to focus on long speeches)
Combat service...
Question: Has Saitama ever enlisted in the military? Which is extremely common if one is poor plus male. And military exists in OPM.
Men raised in poverty had greater odds of draft and all-volunteer military service. Early-life experiences, independent of military service, appear associated with greater odds of MD. Assessing childhood poverty in service members may identify risk for depression in later life.
Because in all honesty, the metaphor here when Manako, one eye'd monster, is sitting on the toilet and hiding her face from Saitama seems kind of...fitting. In OPM game, Toilet-dwelling monster is metaphor for God, the source of monsters and evil. And Saitama locks himself in the toilet, like he locks his emotions away.
If Saitama has some kind of trauma from his time in the military that causes him to dissociate, it would explain the stare he gets when he feels like he has to take a life to do his hero work, to preserve the needs of the many. Like he did when he killed Boros and when he felt like he failed everyone he knew and wanted to kill Garou.
(Reincarnation anybody? I heard first era in OPM was about war and stuff)
When recounting his arrival in Vietnam in 1965, then-Corporal Joe Houle (director of the Marine Corps Museum of the Carolinas in 2002) said he saw no emotion in the eyes of his new squad: "The look in their eyes was like the life was sucked out of them," later learning that the term for their condition was "the 1,000-yard stare". "After I lost my first friend, I felt it was best to be detached," he explained.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The parallels in these two panels are pretty astounding. But in the bottom one, Saitama has also suffered a psychological wound and it depicts the wounded healer archetype very well.
Wounded healer is a term created by psychologist Carl Jung. The idea states that an analyst is compelled to treat patients because the analyst himself is "wounded." The idea may have Greek mythology origins. Victor et al. (2021), a pre-print study, found that 82% of applied psychology graduate students and faculty members in the United States and Canada experienced mental health conditions at some point in their lives.
As an example, of the "wounded healer phenomenon" between an analyst and their analyzed:
The analyst is consciously aware of his own personal wounds. These wounds may be activated in certain situations especially if the analyzed wounds are similar to his own. The analyzed wounds affect the wounds of the analyst. The analyst either consciously or unconsciously passes this awareness back to his analyzed, causing an unconscious relationship to take place between analyst and analyzed.
Humanity has made contact with a threat of this scale and has known true Fear, but as long as Saitama's combat service remains a secret, nobody will know.
I wonder if this'll relate to time travel in some way.
Side note, Saitama also taunted both Boros and Garou just to draw their attention intentionally as means of protecting other people with self-sacrifice and classic thinking process of a wounded healer archetype, but also that BPD self-harm shining through. Intentionally using himself being impervious to draw fire.
It's not a healthy outlook, no matter even if he's impervious to harm. He's just found he can do it and it works when he does hero work. He did not care much about being careful about getting harmed before he got impervious either.
Anyways, less about nutrition, more about how Saitama is drawn and how it relates to the plot, his self-image and his mental state.
But regardless of how you see it, I believe current Saitama IS a depiction that he is slowly getting better. And getting the nourishment and help he needs to actually grow and heal. Which is the general takeaway.

Hii!! Thought I'd stop by and drop a request! This one's for Joe and Cherry from SK8 (separately): They both were high school skateboarding rivals with reader who is a sporty and tomboyish girl but later develop a crush on her.
Unfortunately, they haven't spoken to her in years after she left to study in a prestigious college recommended to her by her strict dad (fyi her parents are divorced, she does not get along with her dad, her mother still lives in Okinawa giving them updates about her).
Years go by and they hear of a small yet popular bakery that recently opened that sells a bunch of tasty goods and so, hungry and curious, they decided to pay a visit. As soon as they walk in, who do they see amongst all the yummy treats? The reader. Now a beautiful woman, even with her hair in a messy ponytail. The boy(s) decided to ask to speak with her and she's surprised (but happy) to see them after all these years.
Kojiro
Kojiro sighed as he covered his eyes from the blaring son. Figures the one day he decided to walk and not board it would be a scorcher. Squinting his eyes, he checked the address again. Only a few more blocks. He could make it.
He’d heard of this new pastry chef in town that was making some big waves in the community. Not usually one for flash (except with himself of course) he had ignored it until he tasted one of their treats from a pop-up downtown. It had been delicious! A true marvel of culinary arts. No, no, not that. Alchemy. Kojiro decided he had to meet them and see if they would be willing to collab on a menu for his restaurant. His desserts always fair, but weakest area of cooking.
Turning the corner, he came to the end of a narrow alley that listed the name & number of the business but little else. ‘No wonder they’re doing pop-ups’ He thought. This place wasn’t big enough to house more than a dozen customers at a time, and completely non-descript. Kojiro kind of liked it though. It added to the mystique, and he wanted this partnership even more.
“Hello.” He called out as he let himself into the, hopefully, open shop. “Anyone here?”
“Be right there!” A voice called from the back. A woman’s voice.
‘Good.’ Kojiro thought as he posted up by the counter bar. A woman would be much easier to deal with. He’d put on his charm and a devilish smile, and he’d get his way in no time. ‘Maybe even get her’ He added lecherously. ‘But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.’
“Sorry about that. What can I get started for you?”
“Well actually I was….” His voice trailed off as he came face to face with a ghost. “…[Y/N]?”
“Hey! Kojiro! I thought that was you.” She replied. Beaming at him like old times and coming up to the counter. “I’d recognize that green mop anywhere.”
“What are you doing here?” He was still in so much shock that he couldn’t get past basic questions.
“You mean, why am I not in America in some fancy high-story law firm?” That was the last he had heard of her. That was the last that any of them had heard from her after high school. That she was going to go off to some fancy school, then law school, and make it big as a lawyer in some major firm like in all the movies. To his knowledge, and updates from her mother, she had. So, what was she doing here? “After everything that happened the last few years, I realized that I wasn’t very happy. I did what I was supposed to, but not anything I wanted. Plus after mom got sick it kind of put everything in perspective. So, when things opened back up, I moved back here and opened this place up.”
“This is your shop?” Kojiro asked. Looking around with a fresh set of eyes.
[Y/N] giggled. “Yeah. Putting that law degree to good use hn? But if I ever get sued for food poisoning or someone burning themselves with a hot coffee, I’m covered.”
Kojiro scoffed as she went over to the espresso machine to make them some coffees. “I guess. You seem to be doing well. I actually came here to sweet talk the owner into doing a collab menu with me at my restaurant.”
“You really opened that then? I thought mom was joking.” [Y/N] teased as she set the milk to steam, then came over a few minutes later with two cups. “Seriously Joe, I’m happy for you.”
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up hearing his nickname from her. She gave it to him. ‘Joe’. She gave them all their names back when they used to all be so close and were stupid enough to think that’s how it would always be.
“So you want to collab on something?”
Kojiro looked up from his coffee and memories. Startled back to adulthood at the reminder of work. “Oh…yeah. I thought we could work out a pre-fix menu for the season crowd coming up. My dinner, your desserts. Maybe even a sweet/savory board thing?”
“That sounds great!” [Y/N] agreed. “Why don’t I come over this week and I can try your food, and then work out a menu. I usually do French classic, but Italian desserts are a pretty easy spin off. We’d make a great team!”
“Yeah. We would.” His tone was a little wistful. Then he pulled out his phone to ask for her number so he could text her. “I’m closed on Thursdays. So come over then and I’ll make you something special.”
“Just the two of us?” She asked, with a hint of a smirk, getting his attention. “How scandalous.”
Kojiro blushed. Probably for the first time in 10 years. “Just be there!” He clipped. But then smiled and thanked her for the coffee before he had to leave. He couldn’t stay there all day reminiscing, even if he wanted to, with his own restaurant to get ready for the dinner rush.
KaoruHe thought the gorilla was lying when he told him. Some cruel joke. Or wishful thinking in that big dumb head of his.
Kaoru been shocked beyond reason when he invited [Y/N]’s mother over for tea and she told him that yes, she was back in Okinawa for good. He felt a little jilted that she hadn’t told him before; making him regret all the times he had invited her over for tea in the past. At least he knew now, he supposed.
Heading down to the small shop, he let himself in and found [Y/N] cleaning off the counter in an apron. The smell of fresh bread & coffee in the air. This surreal feeling of walking into a dream, rather than a small café run by an old friend.
“I wondered when you’d show.” [Y/N] said, not seeming surprised he was there.
“Your mother mentioned that we spoke?”
“No,” she said as she flipped the dust rag onto her shoulder. “You know her policy on gossip. But since Kojiro was here, I guessed it was only a matter of time before he told you.”
“You should have told me.” Kaoru hissed in irritation.
Who could she not tell him she was back? Sure they had grown apart when she went abroad for school, and then work, but he thought they were still close. With her back, it changed everything. And he was angry she didn’t feel the same.
“I figured you were busy. What with being a big shot calligrapher now and all. Who would have guessed?” [Y/N] mused as she poured a cup of green tea and sat it on the counter. A peace offering.
Kaoru scrunched his lips, but walked across the café to the counter. Taking the cup. “I had to get a job eventually. Calligraphy just sort of worked out.”
“The things we do for our parents, ney?”
He looked up from his teacup. Watching [Y/N] wax nostalgically. His parents were never happy with his alternative lifestyle in high school. Pressuring him to be a more suitable young man they could be proud of; like her father pushing her into law. After high school he decided he had to grow up and be an adult. Plus with Adam and [Y/N] leaving, being ‘edgy’ just wasn’t as much fun anymore. So he became the suitable young man his parents always dreamed of, and they weren’t around to even enjoy it.
“I take it your working with the gorilla on some secret menu promotion?”
“Hehe, yes,” [Y/N] confirmed with a giggle. “He wants to do a collaboration. His food. My desserts. Should be fun.”
“When is it?” Kaoru asked nonchalantly as he sipped his tea.
“Why? You want to come?”
“Tsk. Hardly.” He rebuttaled. “I detest crowds. And I’m at Sia often, so I’d like to know the dates to avoid such commotion.”
“Awww. You think we’re gonna draw crowds?” Kaoru balked and blushed a little at [Y/N] turning the tables on him. “But, if you don’t like crowds. We’re picking the menu next Thursday. Why don’t you come by? We could use another taster. That way you can try the menu and help decide what’s on it. It’ll be like old times!”
“Old times hn?” It was Kaoru’s turn to wax nostalgically. If only for a moment. He quickly cleared his throat and sat his empty teacup down. “I’ll have to see if my schedule allows. I’m very busy.”
“Of course.” [Y/N] said in that know-it-all sort of way he just remembered he hated. “Well, if you can. Kojiro said to come over at 5:00. Again, if you can.”
Kaoru grunted, but made a mental note of the time (and to show up at 5:10 as to not seem eager). He thanked [Y/N] for the tea, and told them he was happy to see her. She smiled and said she was happy to see him too, and to come back anytime.
He made another mental note to come back in two weeks. As to not seem eager.

Bocchi the Rock Season 1 Review
I’m just gonna come out here and say it right away: I’m not a fan of the ‘Cute girls doing cute things’ subgenre. I know it’s got it’s fans, and not everything someone else likes is going to be something I like. Still, when it comes to picking out a new series to try, I’m quick to dodge all series where the main characters sit around and basically do nothing. Good media, to me, is about things that don’t happen in real life, so something like K!On is too mild for me.
Tumblr media
So, color me surprised that this month, I found a ‘Girls do nothing’ series that actually got me engaged and entertained. This month, I was assigned the series Bocchi the Rock by my friends at my university’s anime club, and what I initially expected to be another snooze-fest hyped up by legions of diehard ‘moe’ fans, turned out to be a heartwarming story of overcoming Social Anxiety Disorder through the power of friendship.
Tumblr media
Bocchi the Rock stars Hitori Gotoh, a 15 year old with crippling social anxiety who has a passion for the guitar. Hitori, (who later gains the nickname ‘Bocchi’, a pun on the Japanese word for loneliness), spends her days in her closet, posting covers of popular songs on Youtube and dreaming of stardom. A chance encounter with other musicians her age thrusts her into the world of underground rock bands, where she becomes a guitarist for an indie band, and faces her anxiety head-on.
Tumblr media
What struck me immediately about this series was how often Bocchi’s anxiety was brought up, and not always just for a gag. Her social anxiety makes even the smallest interactions a struggle, from trying to join a conversation with classmates, to making plans outside of school. Yes, the series uses some of these moments to lighten the mood with a little bit of comedy, but overall, its clearly not trying to minimize her struggles or make fun of her.
Tumblr media
Bocchi’s anxieties often lead to catastrophizing, linking even the smallest perceived slip-ups with total annihilation. In one episode, we see what she thinks will happen if she tries getting a job: she gets flustered dealing with a customer and stumbles over her words, someone films it and it goes viral, she is called into court to testify for the crime of being weird, and then given the death sentence. Scenes like these are cute and light-hearted gags, but also can't help but make you feel bad for her. They give a greater insight into how her social anxiety affects her, and do a better job at representing social anxiety than your typical ‘shy kid’ archetype.
Tumblr media
Bocchi’s fantasy sequences are also the highlight of this series, because of how experimental they can be. These scenes are probably the most discussed aspect of this series, and for good reason. There aren’t many anime out there that switch art style this often, just for a quick bit. Bocchi the Rock uses zoetropes, stop motion, clay figurines, live-action footage, and much more to break free from the monotony of cutesy style in order to convey the main character’s feelings. Its not every day when you see an anime girl revert back to her 3-D model and smash into a pile of untextured polygons.
Tumblr media
The animation in this series is also quite good. I was pretty shocked to see the girls playing their instruments in a somewhat accurate and realistic way, which you’d think would be a low bar for a series about a band. The studio behind this series clearly put in the extra time and effort to animate the guitar and drum playing accurately, and are clearly proud of it, with the amount of close-ups they show of the instruments being played. It almost makes you wonder why other music-centric series aren’t like this...
Tumblr media
Bocchi the Rock’s weakest aspect, however, is it’s characters. In most ‘Girls doing nothing’ series, cuteness is prioritized over deep character writing, so main characters often lack any negative traits. These series are content with re-packaging simple character traits, knowing that giving the characters a chance to show any negative traits will take away from their perceived cuteness or ‘wholesomeness’. The same, unfortunately, can be found in this series, as the four main girls stick to the common character archetypes of the subgenre, and don’t make much of an effort to deviate from them.
Tumblr media
Nijika, the blonde, is little beyond the peppy heart of gold, the face of the group. Kita, the redhead, is never shown to be anything more than the perfect, pretty popular girl that everyone adores. Ryo, the blue-haired one, has some level of character flaws, as she reveals herself to be terrible with money, and ends up owing her bandmates lots of money by the end of the season. However, beyond Bocchi herself, we rarely get to see the bandmates presented outside of their archetypes. Perhaps in season 2, we could get to see the characters reveal more about themselves, and struggle with things from their own lives?
Tumblr media
The series’ story has a decent flow to it, following Bocchi and her band’s journey from obscurity to their first big break. At times, I felt a bit lost, wondering when the characters were going to move to the next big event instead of doing little thing, but that’s about par for the course when it comes to these types of plots. The plot revolves mostly around performances, interspersed with downtime in between, where we see the characters socialize, go shopping, or peek into Bocchi’s home life. While the show in general does little in terms of building suspense in these in-between moments, Bocchi’s internal monologue paints a clear picture of how important each performance is, making each one feel like a battle she must face.
Tumblr media
With a season 2 on the way, I can only hope that this series continues down the path its headed, and tries to improve where it lacks. Its a ‘Girls doing nothing’ series that isn’t afraid to give one of it’s characters crippling social anxiety, and lets her have flaws beyond just being clumsy in a cute way. I can only hope that the rest of the cast gets the same treatment in the future, which I believe will lead to a deeper story, and therefore, a stronger emotional core. Overall though, Bocchi the Rock is a funny and light romp that occasionally takes a detour into downright zany visuals, and we are here for it. I’m not usually a fan of cute girl-centric series, but perhaps I’ll make an exception, just this once.

Hello I'm Cloud! My main is @forecast-rain and this blog is where I'll post stuff about my ocs! (Also, here's my art fight in case you want more info or smth)
This blog will double as an ask blog so feel free to send asks addressed to my little guys! :) I think the ask answers will generally be like... post-canon or smth? Not sure though. A universe where it's all fine and good maybe.
the tagging system:
for answered asks I will use "#the guys answer!"
for oc art I will use "#they have a face!"
for just generally talking about oc stuff I'll use "#talking about them"
all in-character stuff will be tagged with "#oc lore"
for other stuff I will use "#general posting"
I will also tag whatever oc I mention in the post with their name (no surname)
I will now list some basic info about my little guys and the worlds they come from!
So I have 2 main oc worlds (and I name them after the first character created in said world)
Sylvia's world
Her world is a modern world just some people are animal hybrids. Why? Because the character who this world was based around was a catgirl originally and it would feel weird to change it now.
This world features:
Sylvia Water - a workoholic catgirl who is very focused on doing well in school, never seeming to take a break. I wonder why? (the og and my pfp often <3 ) (she/her
Lilly Costanzo - the popular girly girl who loves makeup. Despite being surrounded by people she seems lonely. (she/her)
Olive - the delinquent with blue hair and pronouns. seems to dislike Lilly... and it's mutual. why is that? (she/her)
Astro - he's. a lot. depressed guy who is very snarky. I tend to compare him to snny from omri sometimes (he/him)
Trevor - drama nerd and an anxious mess. he's trying to work up his courage to approach his childhood best friend (he/him)
the pronouns aren't 100% set in stone except for Trevor and Olive. Also applies to the characters later.
Mike's world
I always have trouble explaining his world lmao. Mike's world has two planes of existence that are connected - a magic dimension and a dimension that's basically our world. The modern dimension isn't aware of the magic dimension and tbh the magic dimension isn't really aware of the non-magic dimension either other than the elites. These two worlds were once one. Perhaps somebody knows something about this?
Mike Maristo - magician that instead of doing magic tricks uses real magic. Seriously he sucks so bad at magic tricks help him. Also a himbo (he/him)
Lenore - Mike's new neighbor! She's pleasant to chat with though she always seems busy. Wonder why? (she/her)
Danielle - a seamstress who appears quite cold but cares a lot. Mike's bestie. He irritates her so much (she/her)
François - a rival magician. Seems to hate Mike for some reason. (he/him)
Other
Then there's the ocs that don't fit into any of these worlds, such as:
Tina - a girl born without powers in a world where everyone has them. One day found a magical amulet that lets her create clouds and has been a traveler ever since. (she/her)
Vanessa - an angel who got kicked out of heaven for being bad at being an angel lmaooo loserrr. Became a fortune teller. Obsessed with getting her position back (she/her)

another reason why i dislike trends: the constant rush to switch to some other thing and stop holding onto specific things for ages. oh why are you creating for this dead fandom or taking inspiration from something obscure, everyone moved onto a new thing and that's where you can meet new people too, unlike in your stale little dead fandom.
istg no wonder i see so many people going back to super basic topics in their art like natural landscapes or bible stories (or other more or less popular, globally known narratives, myths and stories). i'm fucking exhausted and i hate the fomo effect and i hate that fandoms nowadays seem to have an average lifespan of like, a week or two
also i said this before and i will said this again forums >>>>> discord servers............ that's not really related but still sorta is: back in the day, all the artwork was up forever for anyone to find years later, even if the forum died out. the community was in the open for everyone to lurk and decide whether they want to join. discord servers are social-media lite: shit comes and goes and gets lost forever if you don't save it or weren't there the moment it was posted.
i hate this shit so fucking much. i don't even mind anymore if people repost my stuff to imageboards and boorus* because ... the internet is fucking unbearable. i hate it.
*though i've been lazy and haven't been posting anything of value specifically as of lately, but some of my fanwork including commissions ended up on boorus. i didn't sign it (but people used separate tags for one of my old usernames, that's nice) and tbh i hate that art of mine, but people who do this are doing literal god's work, no joke. maybe i should look for boorus to post stuff there myself? it's hard though because most of them are anime or furry/mlp centered, and i would like to find a place for obscure western fandoms
hmmmmmmmmm

My Time with Toriyama
Note: This is a LONG text post of an article I wrote that's being published at my school paper later this week.
On March 8th, 2024, Bird Studio announced the death of Akira Toriyama on social media. It would be easy to boil down the impact of this announcement to social media metrics - on X (formerly Twitter) alone, there were 114 million views, 650,000 retweets, and eleven thousand comments on a tweet in Japanese. If you followed artists or fans, there was one topic that week.
I could talk about how I cried for hours that night and several after, how it’s taken me over a month just to be able to write this article, all the dozens and hundreds of references in popular shows and movies I found while going through a thousand rabbit holes to try to calculate not just a personal loss, but a blow to the fabric of art and culture as a whole.
Twenty years ago, when I was 7, I went over to my best friend’s house. He had Lego models, baseball cards, and a PlayStation 2 - everything that counted as cool at the turn of the millennium. What captured my attention instead were two comic books - Dragon Ball Volume 3, and Dragon Ball Z Volume 24.
A dozen questions came to mind. Why didn’t he have the beginning of the story? Why was there a Z tacked onto one of the volumes? He’s an adult now? Volume 3 is about a kid in a fighting tournament and he has black hair - how come he’s blonde, dead, and a father in Volume 24? Why do I have to read it backward, can’t they flip it?
Why is this so… Awesome?
I remember after reading the volumes my friend had, I would drag my mom down to Barnes & Noble, back when it was on the corner of 3rd and Wilshire at the promenade, and make her sit with me for hours as I read Dragon Ball off the shelves. We didn’t have enough money at the time to just buy all 42 issues, but I had to read more.
For the last 20 years, I've been not only a fan of Akira Toriyama’s magnum opus but genuinely excited for everything Dragon Ball related that came out. It’s been amazing watching anime go from something nobody talked about, not even among the friends that showed it to me in the first place, to something you can speak about in public and get positive responses.
If I was going through hard times - and lately, times have been rough - Dragon Ball is always there. It’s a comfortable, reliable series. The good guys will always win. They’ll always have a smile on their face at the end of the day. They don’t do any overly sarcastic quipping or taunting, they don’t break up the action to wax philosophical about topics that don’t matter to normal people, they just show up, fight as well as they can, and save the day.
Life isn’t always that easy, but sometimes, in comics, they can be, and if you’re lucky, the comic will also be plain awesome.
American comics and superhero shows made for children are the first point of contact most of us had with the idea of a ‘cool’ character. Someone powerful who fights for what’s right and grows stronger while doing it. In the 70’s and 80’s, the shift in American comics became to show characters like Spider-Man and Batman struggling not just with their battles, but with the aftermath, both material and emotional.
Spider-Man’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy died. Batman sidekick Jason Todd died. Eventually, even Superman died. People had started taking comics as genuine opportunities for genre-expanding art, to be taken seriously as not just great art but as genuine expressions of life, suffering, and the eternal struggles of the modern world.
These trends would do wonders for the superhero genre and the medium as a whole. Comics swelled into popular consciousness in a way they never had before with single issues becoming national bestsellers. This popularity trickled into international comics as well - including manga like Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, and of course, Dragon Ball.
Also, it’s hard to overlook the fact that anime had hit America before Dragon Ball. Studio Ghibli’s critically acclaimed movies started to catch on over here starting with the international distribution of My Neighbor Totoro in 1993. English dubs of Ghibli movies becoming major affairs as part of Disney’s long-running deal with the studio.
There is one more giant piece of the puzzle that close readers are probably screaming at the screen about, and that oversized, Pikachu-shaped piece is Pokemon. Students entering into school now cannot possibly understand the grip that Pokemon had on popular culture, especially the children.
Pretty much every store in the late 90’s had a rack of Pokemon cards right at checkout where kids could see them and beg their parents for them. The cartoon ran basically non-stop. Backlash over banned episodes and the bizarre Satanism allegations didn’t stop Pokemon’s influence, it just drove it deeper into the minds of consumers.
Most importantly - and this cannot be overstated - Pokemon and its accompanying cartoons are from Japan. If your kids are already obsessed with the one Japanese cartoon, why not see what the rest of the offerings are?
Naturally, I didn’t know a single piece of that information when I was in second grade. In 2004 the only thing I knew was that when Goku punched a guy, it just felt better to me than when when The Flash did. No context, no understanding of who or why, or even what planet everything was happening on was necessary for me to understand that dudes were getting punched through the sky.
Buckets of ink have been and will be spilled trying to explain the paneling and significance of Dragon Ball. I don’t have the words or the technical art knowledge to explain why it works better than its peers. I don’t want to waste each other’s time explaining the intricacies of the plot or the lore or how many galaxies the characters could blow up in a single blast. None of that has anything to do with what the series meant to me.
Dragon Ball is, at its core, a series about people seeking self-improvement and finding it through mutual cooperation, usually through training together. There can only be one strongest - and it’s usually the main character, Goku, despite what us long-suffering Vegeta fans hope every time a new episode comes out - but the only way you get there is by making friends and growing alongside them.
Goku’s ultimate attack is the Spirit Bomb. It usually doesn’t work because it’s narratively dramatic, but at the conclusion of the main series it does finally defeat the strongest enemy our heroes have faced. The Spirit Bomb requires Goku to hold his hands in the air and call forth energy from the planet around him, from people who trust him enough to give him power. Most of that energy came from his former enemies, people who once fought him just long enough to decide to become better people.
Dragon Ball Z, the ‘second half’ of the main series, had already finished before my parents were married, but that didn’t mean that it was over. Dragon Ball GT, a continuation and semi-canon spin-off, ran at least long enough for me to be born. Dragon Ball Super runs to this day, though it’s on hiatus with the passing of Toriyama.
It’s also… Everywhere else. I wasn’t the only kid reading Dragon Ball. Hell, kids weren’t the only ones reading Dragon Ball. Industry professionals and legitimate tastemakers were into it as far back as 1984 when the series started, because Akira Toriyama was already considered an all-time, hall of fame level artist in Japan before Dragon Ball ever hit shelves. His first serialized work, Dr. Slump, sold 35 million copies in Japan alone.
Dr. Slump is not part of my personal story, but it’s a big part of why he was so beloved and heavily marketed to an international audience so early on. It’s also why he was able to begin work as the main character and monster designer on the Dragon Quest series, a beloved Role-playing game staple that’s sold 88 million units - a $5 billion franchise on its own.
His work on Dragon Quest is cited - and immediately visible - as a primary influence on another video game series that we’ve already mentioned, Pokemon. Akira Toriyama was so talented that his sphere of influence helped create a second sphere of influence that would eventually catapult him to even greater heights.
His work on Dr. Slump is also widely credited as the beginning of the Chibi art style, where proportions are compressed to make things chunky and cute. The Chibi style of drawing was also a major influence on the graphic stylings of the original Super Mario Bros. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to explain who Mario is, or how important those games are to the world.
For a massive section of the population, even if you explain everything I wrote out quicker, faster, and simpler, the name Akira Toriyama won’t mean anything. But he means something to me. His work meant close to everything for me. He was always there. Even if it wasn’t something he made, it was something he influenced.
A cold comfort for me as I grieve a man I never met, never would have met, and who I would have had nothing to talk about except the things he made, is that his work will still be there.
Toriyama will be mourned for years, but honoring him doesn’t mean visiting a grave. When you pass a row of comics, be they Japanese or Western or somewhere in between, you can find him. When you see a group of kids throwing laser beams at each other on the playground, Toriyama is there. For the millions of us who grew up with his art, anytime we look in the mirror, he will be there.
So long, Toriyama. I never met you. But it was sure nice to get to know you, if just a little.

sometimes I remember how some individuals in the bts fanart community bullied me pretty intensely back on my bts twitter days.
(its been at least a few years now. I forget how long it's been) sometimes I still consider posting my screeenshot proofs of it and exposing them. but that was so long ago now, it's probably pointless. if they didn't stop, I was prepared to. but a friend I had at the time confronted them (after I told her not to) but it seemed to have helped and they and they didn't bother me after that. but I never got answers for why they were doing it
but it still pisses me off that they were "popular" and had a few thousand followers and everyone loved them and many other artists kissed their asses and tried to be part of their little popular clique (probably to feed off their popularity)
but for some reason when I was being genuine and wanted to be real friends and work on a collab for fun and was nothing but nice to everyone, I got bullied so bad that even other people in the collab pointed it out at first. i was blamed for it all even though it was obvious i did nothing wrong and they were the wrong ones. I even have screenshots to prove it. (I am missing some stuff, though, which is one reason I didn't post. I could have made them look so much worse if I managed to get everything haha but i didn't realize what was happening soon enough)
I was so confused. i'm STILL confused. was there a reason for the sudden bullying? or are they just nasty people that like to pick on small artists and get away with it because no one cares about me or will ever believe me? either way, I hope their art dreams never come true and they hurt their drawing hand many times.
some of the bts fanartists had such nasty attitudes and interacting with them made me wonder why people loved them so much. some artists acted so snobby, arrogant, and unfriendly.
some would whine and complain about wanting attention/friends/interactions but ignore me, act annoyed, not reciprocate. or tell me they don't want to talk, but then go right back to complaining they want friends and people to talk to a minute later. most wouldn't follow back if you weren't a big popular account or tell me they have ridiculous requirements I had to meet or they'd unfollow. but would always be begging for more mutuals.
some would post they're open to helping be a second pair of eyes to review your art, but only gave me destructive criticism and told me to "practice more so you can be as good as me" but they always ended up only being artists for 3-5 years vs my 20+ so they have nothing on me. I have practiced art longer than they've been alive!!!! but they still think they're superior and male it a competitive instead of actually being helpful like they claimed they wanted to be. I never got any real advice and they thought they had an attitude of being too good and perfect for me. sometimes I even got unsolicited destructive advice on art I was proud of and liked.
one annoying thing was many would whine about only getting a few thousand likes on their art and ask for more, or require me to interact with all their posts in order to be mutuals (I literally had one tell me they will be mutuals but if i dont interact with all their tweets daily they will unfollow) BUT THEY NEVER INTERACTED WITH A SINGLE ONE OF MY TWEETS. I had to give them all the attention, but they didn't give anything back in return at all. people like that are so gross and nasty, but they somehow tricked everyone into thinking they were so perfect and sweet and friendly.
and all these people didn't even have art that was that great. like it was kind of average imo, compared to other stuff i see. they started as smaller accounts that didn't have impressive art so I wanted to support them as they grew and got better. small artist solidarity. supporting newer artists who have 10-15 years less experience than me. but they all acted like such elitist snobs towards me.
and no matter how many times I post about it, no one ever confesses to experiencing the same treatment in the bts fanartist community!!!!! (or online art communities in general. i've never had any solidarity) makes me feel so shitty because I seem to be the only one that was treated horribly by other artists and bullied and unable to make many art friends/mutuals compared to the snobby shitheads that bullied me who somehow tricked everyone into loving them!! and all the people who supported them "the correct way" so they didn't get bullied and got to be added to the snobby elitist cliques.
still waiting for the day someone comes to me with stories of their own so I don't feel so alone 😅
to end this here's a reminder: art isnt a competition. we should all support each other and encourage each other and see each other as equals. share each other's art. boost each other up. work together. be friends. give constructive criticism only when asked, never destructive. don't act better than others. don't beg for attention and then refuse to give in return. a reblog/retweet/etc is very valuable even if you don't know how to share words. be kind and have fun!
