having fun working on a commission for arturo. he wanted one of his ocs (angel, left) included in the commission, and another oc (paulina, right) that we brainstormed together for the sake of this fic.

i decided to let my computer charge a bit after writing for a while, so i decided to make picrews of the ocs (couldn't resist with makowka, long time fave tbh) just to help make the visualizations of them "tangible."

then i decided to make the rest of the mcs as picrews lol. take this as you will.

I commissioned @deadlake to make a version of Eddie Brock's Venom form along the line of @kitausuret's explanation for Flash's Cosmic Venom in her fantastic (explicit) fic: Complicate Me, Elevate Me. Kita's fic got me thinking, if Agent Venom is Flash's "work outfit", what if that could also be true for Eddie? What might Eddie and the symbiote's casual form look like? This is what I came up with after chatting with Kita!

Wings because that's a cool and fun thing from the comics, though the anatomy is better because the comics anatomy hurt me in my heart. They can shift to have more grasping digits on their wings and also just do whatever fine adjustments to their proportions that they need to do for ease of movement and comfort.

They can do bipedal movement of quadrupedal because that's cool and fun and monstery. And most of the reasoning for cool, fun, monstery things are because they are cool, fun, and monstery. Their hands are still very dexterous, because I imagine that, as a writer, Eddie puts a lot of importance on his hands.

The spider symbol is different because they want to distance themselves from the idea that Spider-man is the sole reason they are together. However it's still a spider because they have to acknowledge that Spider-man is still a major reason they came together. They also have bioluminescent marks for other headcanon reasons.

At some point I do want to write a fic about Eddie and the symbiote developing this form together!

Shaima and Muhammad are the sister and brother of Wafaa al-Nahll (@wafans-blog) who reached her goal recently. Their family includes 10 kids but the genocidal Hala travel agency is charging most of them adult rates to leave because they are over the age of 15. Muhammad has a newborn baby who is at risk of infectious disease because he couldn't get vaccinated. The family is currently sheltering in al-Mawasi which has seen gruesome massacres recently. I am pleading with you to read, process, and share the story of @shahednhall and her current circumstances. I am begging you to put yourselves in her shoes and act accordingly with all the urgency that the situation demands to save the lives of 5 innocent children.

Though Shahed herself is drained, sickly, and at her wit's end, and there's nothing more I wish than to relieve her of this hardship, she can only think of her siblings' condition. ALL FIVE OF THEM, THE YOUNGEST OF WHICH IS A BABY, ARE SICK WITH VIRAL HEPATITIS due to the unsanitary conditions these sweet children and every Gazan has been forced to withstand.

Currently, Shahed and her family have a ONE WEEK window to get out of Rafah, but are short on funds. We need to raise enough money to allow at least the five children to flee this terrible danger.

They are small, vulnerable, and can't endure indefinitely, and Shahed is wracked with pain while looking on helplessly. With every message I receive from her my heart breaks, and yet I can only imagine a fraction of her anguish. Let's be her helping hand. We have a chance to save lives here. Don't let it slip by. They are counting on us.

Anything at all you can spare is of great help. If you can't spare anything talk to everybody you know, try to reach out to everybody you know, even public figures who might at least share the campaign, and emphasize the urgency of the situation and the lives at stake. Participate in the raffles and share them. Exhaust every option. I'm begging of you to not do nothing.

In general, I think it's currently really important for progressive Christians to be very loud about being both progressive and deeply religious Christians, and for everyone else fighting for progressive values to be supportive of them doing just that. I know that's like, idk, counter-intuitive or cringe or whatever, but seriously folks, the alternative is that progressive Christians have to be quiet about their faith to be accepted within broader secular and interfaith progressive advocacy, which means that the regressive asshole Christians (a) sound that much louder and (b) dominate the USian religious landscape all the more. That's a problem, for all of us.

We need people pushing back within the faith as well as outside of it, because that destroys any edifice that this is about Christianity and religious freedom.

You can be a devout Christian and also:

Openly, proudly, and without being forced to remain celibate or otherwise limit your full expression of self, identify as LGBTQ+ or be a supportive ally.

Advocate for full reproductive autonomy and comprehensive sex education.

Love and support people of other religious groups, non-religious people and/or atheists, by choosing to believe that a truly loving God would not pursue anything less than universal salvation.

Stand against evangelism and proselytizing as they have thus far been interpreted and used, because there are ways to interpret the Great Commission that don't promote colonialism and cultural genocide.

A steward of the earth, protecting God's beautiful creation and lovingly tending to it as the unique and incredible gift that it is.

A believer in science, rationalism, and human progress as part of God's divine plan for humanity.

A believer in history and someone who understands that the Bible can be both divinely given and open to interpretation (no really)(if you're confused, please talk to a knowledgeable traditional Jew)

An ally to Jews, who stands against supercessionism and antisemitism in the church.

And in before regressive Christians come shouting at me that (1) what do I know, I'm a Jew and (2) no lol you can't because of ___ reason:

My source is that I've personally met and talked to Christians of great faith and integrity - people who embody the closest forms of kindness I've seen to what Jesus himself advocated - who are each of these things.

It is 100% possible; you just choose to believe otherwise.

Don't Lose Your Vote! UK Edition

Update: Tuesday 18th June 2024 is the deadline to register to vote for the general election.

A snap general election could be called any day. This will be the first general election that requires photo ID if you vote at the polls (postal votes 📫 are unaffected by the Election Act 2022).

If you don't have an approved form of identification (list here), you can apply for a FREE voter ID photo card. Find out more below or use these 5 minutes to register and get your ID sorted instead ❎ because, and this is important to know, the government really doesn't want young people to vote.

The Explanation

Rishi Sunak, UK Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party, may call a snap election in 2023. (A snap election is a vote brought in earlier ⏱ than the one that’s scheduled 🕐) The UK’s next general election (for MPs and the PM) is meant to happen between December 2024 and January 2025.

A snap election happens in as little as 25 days 😨 between the announcement (aka the PM asking the House of Commons’ to approve the dissolution of Parliament) and the vote 🏃‍♀️

You must be registered to vote - currently over 8 million people are not. Unlike other a democratic countries, the UK doesn’t automatically register all eligible voters. You have to do this yourself. Here’s a quick reminder of how to register:

Over the past 15 years, it has gotten harder for British citizens to vote:

Families can no longer register to vote as a household 🏡 so young voters must register themselves (Cameron Govt)

Colleges and universities are barred from registering students 👨‍🎓 (Cameron Govt)

The Elections Act requires photo ID 🤳 for anyone voting in person (Johnson Govt)

Local elections (for city and town governments) in 2023 were the first votes that required VOTER ID. According to the Electoral Commission, over 14,000 people were turned away from the polls because they had not heard about the change.

The House of Lords tried to amend the Elections Act before it passed, to include more common types of ID, such as bank statements, bills, student ID, library cards and much more. This amendment was struck down in the House of Commons. A lot of the IDs included in the approved list are more likely to be owned by older voters than younger ones. For example, a 60+ Oyster Card is acceptable ID but an 18+ Oyster Card is not.

Here’s the important thing to know: voters who don’t have a driving licence or passport or other approved forms of ID, can apply for a free voter ID photo card. Watch the video below to find out how!
