The one thing that changed me as a person after reading Nona the Ninth is now everytime I see a cow on a drive I have to say "Cows exhibit mourning behavior for other cows" or "Cows watch sunsets" with no context. Instead of just naming an animal I see I have to confuse the driver and either explain what is The Locked Tomb or they end up having a genuine response to if cows should be treated better or if they are just resources for humans to use.

I saw someone ask for no spoilers for Nona the Ninth, and i found myself thinking... How would you even spoil this book? What possible thing could I write that would make a lick of sense? I suppose, like, the big one: "Nona's soul is actually alecto" but beyond that... what is there? "John nuked the world because he hates elon musk" "John was a twitch streaming necromancy cult leader" "Cam and Pal fuse into Paul" "The world ends because cows exhibit mourning behavior for other cows." "Varum the eater is there because of Nona but not because she's a lyctor." "Gideon and ianthe have friendship bracelets"

This is all just nonsense words. There are lesser mysteries to spoil, but, like... "Crown is actually coronabeth" is not exactly 'snape kills dumbledore!' is it? Most of this book is simply too wierd to be spoiled.

Soup Day: a proposal for a TLT fandom holiday

Because Mean Girls wear pink on October 3rd. Star Wars celebrates May the 4th. Hitchhikers and Discworld fans don towels and lilacs (respectively) on May 25th.

Locked Tomb friends, we need a holiday.

I propose that 9/9 of every year is Soup Day. We celebrate, of course, by consuming soups. We share photos, recipes, and if you have a group of irl bone bitches, the soup itself.

If you can’t eat soup, put bread in a drawer. If you can’t eat bread, stare in anguish at a cup of lukewarm tea while contemplating the ways your God has disappointed you. Use your own moral judgment on whether you consume cow products on that day, as cows do exhibit mourning behavior.

Shitty 2AM rant on the Misogyny that Lizzy has faced since the very start but it's the perspective of someone who has witnessed the horrors of Misogyny in Spanish speaking fandom

I should mention that English is not my first language and I'm not very good with it either, so most of this was done with Google Translate and I tried to correct what I could, I hope it's at least readable

I've never seen enough people point out the fact that Elizabeth midford character also defies the "Girlboss" archetype, she is definitely physically strong and can protect herself, but she is A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL, who manages her emotions like someone her age would and also exhibits many neurodivergent traits. I have always been bothered by the way physical strength is misunderstood as a "girlboss" trait, the simplest example I can think of is Ran Mao, she possesses brutal and superhuman strength. but it doesn't make her a girlboss, in case anyone forgets Ran is a girl who barely reaches 18 years old and is exploited by an opium trader who also seems to be involved in human trafficking (implied in the manga). Is she really a girlboss? girlboss when her physical strength is more of a requirement to SURVIVE while working as an assassin and sometimes seductress (which u can tell she doesn't enjoy much)? Obviously Ranmao's social reality is very different as she is a woman of color from the underworld, unlike Elizabeth, who is a white woman from the nobility. However, her physical strength has always been a double-edged sword for herself. Lizzy longs to get married, like any other girl her age, she longs to be protected but says goodbye to it the moment Ociel returns.

I may seem a bit exaggerated, but the way your sociocultural background affects the way you perceive and treat a character has me slightly traumatized, I wish I could give proof of the horrible and degrading treatment that Lizzy has received from the Spanish-speaking fandom.

I am a trans boy of color who grew up watching my female relatives being encouraged to rip their hearts out of their chest from the moment they turned 8yo for the simple goal of caring for and protecting my cis male relatives. household chores, cooking for them, washing their clothes, taking accountability for their actions. Their freedom and childhood as little girls were taken away from them. but none of that was ever valued, I never saw anyone recognize it as sacrifice.

Elizabeth is not a woman of color, nor does she have those demands as a woman of nobility, but she SACRIFICED stuff to try to protect Ciel on her own way, I have seen many people underestimate her backstory in book of Atlantic because "High heeled shoes aren't reason to cry." Everything Lizzy has done for Ciel is devalued, all her suffering has been minimized. losing so many family members in such a short time, losing the boy you were raised to marry your entire life. People truly forget that lizzy is still just a child, that she has the right to mourn everything she lost that day. She had to mourn publicly as a noble girl,she probably heard that she would never be able to get married or would never achieve happiness, I've never seen any adult to stop and think about how heartbreaking and soul shattering that must have been as a 11yo

I have seen how EVERY thing Lizzy does is judged. how her behavior, personality and temperament are criticized. but other characters like Soma just get a pass while doing the same stuff, but this does not just stop at gender, but also at age. people HATE girls and afabs who act like children when they are literally CHILDREN.

How is it possible that Lizzy has faced such harsh judgment from the fandom when there are other characters like Maam red, Lau, Grell, Undertaker who are universally ADORED or atleast respected in the fandom.

im on a road trip and bored out of my mind so my brain has demanded that i continue this post.

so, withour further ado:

With a Ghostly Heart.

Bruce sat in the batcave, staring at the camera feeds and videos from all over Gotham.

Each showed a figure that was far too familiar.

Bruce knew that it was a trick. Some kind of ploy, some kind of mind-game to make him forget himself in his mourning.

Each feed was minorly corrupted when the trickster (that was what it was- that was not his son) appeared.

The trickster appeared confused- though it knew Gotham like the back of its hand, clearly, it struggled to get about while exhibiting erratic and strange behavior. It would occasionally float, pass through walls, turn invisible, or fly without thinking, then turn back on its actions as if it had to think about acting normal.

Bruce was struggling to comprehend what the trickster wanted- whenever Bruce approached, it fled, and Bruce could never find it when it fled. It only showed up when it got sloppy, which Bruce didn't understand. It seemed to forget it could be seen, which didn't make any sense.

So, Bruce was struggling.

This thing, this trickster with his son's face, was beyond Bruce's comprehension.

"Bruce, you're overworking again," Dick chastizes from behind Bruce's chair, turning it so Bruce faced his first son. "I'm as confused as you are, but you need to go to bed."

"I'm not-"

"Bruce, Dick, online, now," Babs' voice rang from the bat computer into the cave, before an audio feed started playing.

"Danny, pick up, Ancients damn it! Fucking asshole..."

That was Jason's voice. The trickster had copied Jason's voice, too.

The other end of the line picked up and the trickster audibly sighed.

"Before you say anything, Danny, Babs is listening. Now come pick me up, I ended up in Gotham."

"Jason! Oh, Ancients, I thought you were- well, you're already dead, but you know what I mean."

"Not as dead as I was. I'm... my body is back? I'm partly alive. Sort of? We'll have to ask Frostbite or Vlad what's up with it. You'll have to teach me your ways."

"Jason... does this mean I'll have to exclude you from the dead jokes from now on?"

"Oh, piss off. I'm still more dead than your half-alive ass, and you get a part in them. I have more of a right to death jokes than you ever will, Pinnochio."

"Oh, you wound me. I'll be there in fice wait for me somewhere safe."

"You got it, your majesty."

"Oh, shut it. I'll kill you for that, I will."

"I'd like to see you try, my liege."

The line clicks, and there was silence for a moment.

"I know you're listening, Bruce. Let me rest. My afterlife is mine, and I'm not ready to have you in it."

And with that, the audio cut out.

Bruce puts his head in his hands.

"Fuck."
