Fandoms are weird nowadays! It's like people watch a movie or show and instead of trying to understand the message the creator is wanting to send, or the idea meant to be conveyed, fans just criticize, co-opt, and refuse to acknowledge the writers vision and intent. Explaining how they would have done it or how better it would have been if it was written their way. Supernatural for example was a show ripe with criticisms, but it honestly would have done the fandom a disservice if, from the get go, we didn't like and didn't care to see where Eric Kripke was taking the story. The show was filled with rich plots and characters with very interesting questions about morality, family, sin, good and bad, but none of that would have been appreciated if the fandom wasn't able to look past the dead end arcs and throw away character in the first couple of seasons (which allowed the grey areas lacking in depth, helping in bringing about the fandom btw) and instead tried to "salvage" or "save" the story by completely rewriting the world and characters. Building theories and finding evidence to fill in the missing puzzle piece in your mind is essentially what the point of a fandom was. It was seeing canon and going, there's more there that the creators aren't aware of, and I want to delve into it. Its taking all of it, the subtext, context, characters, and psychology (even if it's not to your liking), and using that to further understand the stories point of view. Like loose pieces of thread being tied back together to make sense of the whole picture. It not "this shows narrative shouldn't have concluded like that!" gives no examples in canon as to why and doesn't have an argument to back it up. "Here's how it should be!" completely disregards canon and the message the creator was trying to send and instead replaces it with a completely different one. Now people watch movies and film and get upset when the characters don't act a certain way, not caring to read into context and maybe try and understand from the narratives point of view as to Why they would act like that. They see how flawed and vapid some scenes and episodes are and don't take it for the chance it is, which is to further the narrative yourself. Most fandoms are bred from shows and movies with the biggest plot holes, with a-lot of characters, and a wide range of different characterizations for each of them so just embrace it and embrace the flaws in our creations, because perfection just leads to dead ends.

sometimes certain sections of a fandom have such a different….. I’ll be kind and say “interpretation” of the characters that it really does feel like they are in a different fandom than the one I am in. the names are the same and that’s about it

There have been a lot of things I've watched and enjoyed that are somewhat ruined because of the shoehorned romance. And then I go online and learn some people actually ship them?? They had the chemistry of two milk cartons, what do you mean you ship it??

WIP Wednesday

I’ve been plugging away at “Baz in a Bubble,” writing some of the saddest/angstiest Baz ever. Needless to say, progress is slow because I keep stopping to cry with Baz. I’m also starting to worry that my silly little WIP title is sounding more and more serious to me the more I say/write it and I won’t be able to part with it when the time comes.

Instead of depressing you with the boys being a mess, here is a much more fun work in progress. I was inspired by @artsyunderstudy and @emeryhall who both shared their fabulous CO shrines.

I finally framed all the art that is going up on my wall and now I just need to hang it. There will also be two matching glass and gold shelves for my dolls and books, but they are currently still in boxes while I lay all these frames out on the floor over and over again and seek the "perfect" arrangement. Here's hoping I can make a decision quickly, but seeing as I am so indecisive, I have a feeling this will be harder than it seems.

okay it's not buddie/911 so i know 95% will have zero interest in this but i'm 18k into a fic after not being able to make myself write more than 3-4k in almost a year and a half and it just feels?????? so good???????? the last time i even wrote a fic longer than 10k was october 2022 and i have felt so Stuck for so Long but i finally feel like i'm getting back into my groove with writing again and it's just!!!!!!!! really nice to have some of my motivation back you know :')

on more bridgerton discourse I think it's fine if Penelope has a physical relation with Lord Debling (or not). The reason is not so she can get "revenge" on Colin but so Bridgerton can stop the cycle of "this man fucks so often and so frequently he's basically a god" and "woman who has never had a sexual encounter before him." it would be especially refreshing because Penelope is finding herself and what she wants. is it going to happen? no, but it's really weird to see everyone so obsessed with her chastity.

if Colin is going to be whipped for the girl that called him a beta cuck and his little sister a communist bitch I think he can handle not a virgin. like I'm supposed to be fine with him crawling shirtless into the carriage with his baby brother gregory in the passenger seat after some threesome sexcapade or whatever and then Penelope can't even have a horny makeout with another guy? for what? for what purpose? being obsessed with virginity in romance is just annoying. a messy girl boss like Penelope should be allowed to make romantic mistakes too lol.

I've bizarrely seen people try to say that you don't support the romance if you support Penelope having sexual agency and having any encounters with anyone but Colin (during the period where he's claiming to have no interest in her?) And I don't understand how wanting parity or equality in a relationship means not supporting it.

Wanting Penelope to try to move on and give feelings for another man (or woman - hello toxic yuri Peloise 👀) a real shot is not anti-Colin like that is such a juvenile mindset. Tbh I also somewhat don't want this to happen because I think it risks engendering unnecessary in-show drama and I'm very uninterested in seeing it on my screen but I also don't care. nobody should care 😔 it's about the execution of sex or kissing or whatever scenes and how they relate to the story that make them good or bad - not just whether or not they happen & you happen to ship the couple at the time
