WELCOME TO ANOTHER HEADCANON SHITSHOW🗣️🔥
ARCANE CHARACTERS AND THEIR FAVOURITE VIDEO GAMES
this was requested by @beast-master-talks 🫶, so here it is pookie
Jinx
Splatoon & League of Legends
as mentioned in my first headcanon post, Jinx would be a Splatoon enjoyer
based on her weapons, the Heavy Splatling would be her go to weapon
if not, then the stringer or the dualies
she’s a Deep Cut enjoyer, 100%
enjoys the chaos of the game itself
would spam the taunts and squid party whenever she splats someone
plays with ekko
finds the salmons ADORABLE
is a toxic player…most of the time
and that also applies in League (i haven’t played it-)
would main herself
ultimate trash talker in both games
she just enjoys a game where she can absolutely demolish anyone
honourable mention: Borderlands
Viktor
i need him-
TLOZ: Twilight Princess & Minecraft
i think viktor enjoys open-world games rather than more action packed games
(i’m pretty sure his voice actor harry lloyd said something about zelda in a video)
Twilight Princess would be his favourite out of the other games mostly because of the general aesthetic and how it’s one of the more “darker” games of the franchise
THIS MAN WOULD BE FASCINATED BY THE TWILIGHT REALM, I MEAN-
the fact you can pick up cats is also a bonus
now on the calmer side, minecraft
it’s serves as a distraction
he has a pond of axolotls in honour of rio
has banned jinx from his server cus she blew up his wolf “on accident”
has lost his mind over the redstone
Vi
Street Fighter & The Last Of Us
Street Fighter is pretty much a classic in fighting games, so i think it’s something Vi would enjoy
has had a crush on at least ONE of the female fighters
would use ryu, a known character in the game
has played against Jinx, never doing it again cus they almost tore each other apart
NOW, IN THE CASE OF TLOU-
clickers and bloaters stress her the fuck out
died around 4 times in a row during the first encounter with a bloater
even though she could have weapons or even bricks at her disposal, most of the time she fights with her bare fists
died trying to speedrun the stealth sections because she didn’t have the patience
ellie and joel’s relationship hit a bit too close to home with her
i think she would take a break from the second game after joel’s death, no literally, it would leave her absolutely broken
Caitlyn
Life Is Strange & Fire Emblem
Caitlyn would enjoy Life is Strange due to its theme of moral choices
i think she’d be a bit thrown off by the more supernatural aspects of the game, but she’d enjoy nonetheless
she’s pretty much canonically a detective figure
so i think she’d be pretty satisfied if she manages to uncover something beforehand
has talked about the game to vi, in the same way a fnaf fan would explain the lore
NOW AS FOR FIRE EMBLEM (i know, i’m hilarious-)
the overall aesthetic of her design and the Kiramman house just gave me the game’s vibes, y’know?
the customization of the unit’s skills or classes would appeal to her
the lucina allegations from vi only worsened when she started playing
Ekko
Animal Crossing & BOTW
HE WOULD HAVE THE BEST ISLAND, I KNOW IT
has invited heimerdinger over, sometimes even asked for advice when it came to designing
if he was scammed by tom nook at some point, yeah, get ready for “the boy who shattered the console”
Goldie is his favourite villager (she’s mine too)
built a community similar to the Firelights
now for BOTW, Ekko would be absolutely mesmerised by every single location and sight (minus the guardians)
Rito Village reminds him of the hideout
did try to fight Ganon without the necessary equipment but lost
dyes everything green or brown
a little timebomb thingy, he would name one of his horses after Jinx/Powder, especially if it’s one of the blue horses
gets irritated when the stable won’t accept a peculiar horse (skeleton or lord of the mountain)
bonus: tony hawk pro skater (i don’t need to elaborate)
Mel
Sims 4 & Pokémon Scarlet
she would make the most beautiful houses
her sims would have absolutely LETHAL face cards
however, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be absolute chaos from time to time
assassinating her sims would amuse her tbh
YOURE GONNA HAVE TO HEAR ME OUT FOR POKÉMON-
she chooses either fuecoco or quaxly as a starter
her team is full of the most GLAMOROUS pokémon i just know it
gardevoir would be on there for sure
has a shitload of coins and diamonds for evolution
Jayce
(he looks like a wet dog here-)
Detroit: Become Human & FIFA
the story of DBH would have him hooked
just the entire theme of technology would have him interested
but similar to himself, he would have good intentions yet make the most dogshit choices
he would try getting the “good” ending
similar to my headcanon of him quoting Captain Falcon, he would, unironically, say “28 STAB WOUNDS” out of the blue
Jayce is a fife, i just see it that way
despite the game being far more straight to the point, he would enjoy it casually
again, COCKY
if he’s playing with other people, then things will get heated
his team is Barça, it just is
bonus: he plays minecraft with Viktor
I THINK SOME ARE MORE ACCURATE THAN OTHERS BUT EITHER WAY I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS!

Oh? Could it be?
I’m baaaaaack!!
Assassin’s Creed x Minecraft Life Series
If y’all know the life series, you know what I’m talking about. If not:
The Life Series is a Minecraft series run by a group of Minecraft YouTubers who play together on a server for a few episodes. They all play at the same time for the same session to maximize shenanigans. Each series has a different set of rules.
3rd Life: each player only has 3 lives, green life, yellow life, and red life. On your red life you can go after other players and try to kill them.
Last Life: each player is given 2 - 6 lives at random, you can trade lives, once you hit red you go hostile. But also there is a Boogeyman curse where no matter what life you’re on, you must kill a player or you lose a life next session.
Double Life: each player has 3 lives, but their health is connected to another player. Same hostile rules apply for reds.
Limited Life: instead of lives, each player has 24 hours to live. If you die you lose an hour, if you kill another player you gain 30 minutes. Green lives are 16+ hours, Yellow lives are 8-16 hours, Red lives 8 or less hours.
Secret Life: each player has 3 lives and 30 hearts each life, but no regeneration, if they get hurt they cannot regenerate hearts. Every session they can gift one free heart to a player of their choosing. However, each session each player is given a task, if they successfully complete the task they get 10 hearts, if they already have enough hearts to get a full 30 they get good items as a prize. If they fail a task they get nothing. If they haven’t completed or failed their task they can re-roll for a hard task, where they can get 20 hearts, but if they fail they lose 10. If you kill another player you gain 10 hearts. Yellow players can guess tasks, if they guess correctly you automatically lose unless it’s part of your task. Red players are given special red tasks that are inherently more hostile and violent, they can keep getting new tasks once they complete their task. If you tell anyone your task you automatically fail, unless that’s part of the task.
Wild Life: each player has 6 lives, 4 and up are dark green, yellows can only kill dark greens, reds can kill anyone, if either type of player can kill a dark green they gain a life, but each session has a wild card. Session 1 makes you grow every jump and shrink every time you crouch. Session 2 gives the players hunger and turns non-edible items into edible items and gives them random effects. Session 3 spawns an unstoppable snails for each player and if the snail touches their player the player dies instantly. Session 4 changes time to go from extremely slow to extremely fast throughout the session. Session 5 gives each player a trivia bot that quizzes the player, if the player is right they get prizes, if they are wrong they get punishments. Session 6 mobs swapped out occasionally going from harmless passive mobs to hostile mobs. Session 7 gives the players superpowers. Session 8 randomizes between every past wild card, near the end every single wild card is activated.
- life series explanation over-
Got it? Good. Now imagine every single Assassin were to play the Life Series.
Imagine if some of the LORE applied!!
Because yeah there is lore, and yes pretty much all of it is fan made (and/or made up by Martyn, one of the players who actually has his own lore, but never is truly canon), but hear me out!
There are the Watchers, powerful entities responsible for the series. And the Secret Keeper for Secret Life.
There are the curses, such as:
The Canary Curse- this player dies and ends their run first
The Coal-miner Curse- this player dies immediately after the Canary
The Widow Curse- this player kills or is responsible for the end of their closest ally or friend
These ones I sorta made up, but I think about them a lot:
The Madman’s Curse- this player flies into a rage at a specific player early in the sessions and then dies before that specific player does
The Magician’s Curse- this player obsesses over the enchantment table to their own detriment
—-
Honestly you could make up some more, but that’s all I’m putting out there.
Anyway! There, you have a whole lot to play with, but make it Assassin flavored. Desmond Miles ain’t alone in this, everybody gonna suffer. Imagine dying several times, couldn’t be me. None of them have played Minecraft, they’re all so confused. Good luck, losers. You feel me? Great!
Have fun <3

New Year's goals 2025
I identified a big problem with my executive dysfunction is that I often sit down to play video games rather than do other things, and can stay there for hours on end, to the point that my TV triggers its auto-switch off because it thinks I've fallen asleep.
So in order to get stuff done this year I'm not going to play video games. This comes with caveats.
My two big games at the moment are minecraft and runescape. I'm leaving those where they were. Neither have me on paid servers or anything, so they can go on ice easily.
Other games I play are the daily linkedin puzzles. I'm going to keep going with those because they're nice ways to practice thinking differently.
And finally there's an idle game on my phone. I have to keep going with that because I'm using the game as a clock. When I beat the game I'm getting a new phone. The phone is at least six years old and the battery still lasts about a day, so it could go the distance.
As well as not playing video games, there's another thing I won't be doing this year. No main feed on youtube, so no doomscrolling. If I stick with just my subscription channels, then I can run out of stuff to watch. This will enforce boredom and make me do other things.
But, the big question is, then what will I be doing?
Well, there's some big projects that can be worked on.
Number 1: The Book. I'm still re-writing the last section. After that a big editing pass, then finding others to read it for me, and so on.
Number 2: Making Games. Last year a friend was looking for help with making video games. That fizzled out before things really got started, but I could make some stuff solo. There's plenty of online free resources for doing this.
Number 3: Learn another language. At the start of the pandemic I got into duolingo and was doing well for a while, but I hit a wall. My phone wasn't working with the app right so I couldn't do any speaking exercises, and I wasn't taking it seriously enough so that I couldn't progress. But if I apply myself, take notes, maybe buy a subscription, then I could really learn something.
Number 4: I've wanted to add to my steampunk costume for a long time. A helmet and a rifle. Making these would be tough. I've got ideas on how but it will involve experimentation and likely lots of failures. I've never really done the hands-on 'maker' thing before. A good starter sub-project will be putting together a 3d printed prop pistol. I've had the parts in a box for years, but never even dusted them off and glued them together. That'll have to wait until warmer weather though, as the work will be done in my garage.
Number 5: A comic. This is the one I really am not sure if it's possible. I can't draw better than stick figures. But with a video game engine you can set up scenes and make pictures. you can even make it look hand drawn. The big hurdle though is that I don't know if my computer will be able to handle that. I'll have to do tests with different programs to see which (if any) work.
Number 6: Write more. I don't mean the book. I'm going to do something I have actively advicated against in the past. I'm going to do a 'every day/week/month' goal. Every day, tweet/post/toot on social media. A random thought, a commentary, a joke. I'm tired of scrolling my feed, getting to the end then just switching off the apps. Every week, I'm going to post here on tumblr. Shorter, more up to date things, rather than 'here's what I've been up to this decade' mega-posts. Every month, post on medium. That's my professional proofreader blog. I've not posted on it in a while. A spread of regular posts will be good. I doubt I'm actually going to achieve 356 tweets, 52 tumbles and 12 mediums, but even trying for it will be worth it.
Well, today is Day One. Time to get started.

I've had a few people mention the things I post about can apply to more than just factives. Specifically, people mentioning that these things are true and and helpful for fictives to.
I would like to say now, to the people who feel the need to "open my eyes to the problematic fictives" that
That is the point.
I genuinely and honestly in the most non offensive, non rude, trying my best to be understang way, do not understand how you all do not understand that.
This blog exists to teach people that problematic factives aren't that bad. And the fictives are finding that... the experiences are.. similar? Dare I say... the exact same in some cases!? Its- it's almost like.. there's a reason for that.
Yes! Problematic fictives exist too! I know that! But Problematic fictives do not get BANNED from "Problematic introject friendly" servers by Jeff The fucking Killer FOR BEING INTROJECTED FROM A SERIAL KILLER??? WE ARE LITERALLY ONE IN THE SAME AND I AM THE ONE GETTING KICKED OUT FOR EXISTING???
You can go to a stimboard maker and in most cases (granted, yes, everyone has boundaries and this could totally be against a person's boundaries) get a Jeff the Killer, a Ticci Toby, an Ayano Ayishi, etc etc Problematic fictive stimboard made and it wouldn't be a problem. Most of us? we can do that. We can't request stimboards or moodboards or art. We can't post fun headcannons about or dress up as ourselves.
Granted, a lot of us are introjected from someone the system knew in real life and you can't just blast information about your past abuser or your mom, those of us who have infamous serial killer or abuser etc sources are treated like actual shit for something we can't control. And it is so, so, SO crazily often BY problematic fictives. If I had a dollar for every time I was kicked for a server for being me when the mod team had creepypasta, danganronpa, minecraft character thing and whatever else in their system, I would be able to buy all the problematic factives some decent human rights.
YES!
This stuff CAN apply to problematic fictives too!
That DOESNT mean it is FOR you
Until you can learn to treat us like actual people, I think you can suffice to have ONE blog not cater to you. I can help you find 50 who will cater to you either way.

get to know your rp partner!
name: albatross! alba for short if you can't be bothered.
pronouns: they/them.
preferred comms: i default to tumblr dms. that's not to say i necessarily like them the most; i'll give out my discord pretty freely to most anyone who asks for it, but tumblr dms are a good starting point at the very least.
name of muse: cho hakkai!
experience in RP: it feels a little like i've been roleplaying my whole life! i actually started when i was 6 on minecraft creative servers and quotev, back when you could still do things like talk to other people on the site. it was mostly script-style until 20...12? i think? that was when i'd fully moved to quotev and was experimenting with longer para-style roleplays. then i moved to tumblr in 2014 to try my hand at some askblogs that crashed and burned, then i went to skype for a while, and my first proper para rp blog on tumblr came about in... oh, late 2017 or so? which is ... well, actually, that's 7 years, so it's the better part of a decade, but i guess i hadn't realized it had been that long.
best experiences: i had the most fun when the bungou stray dogs community was hitting somewhat of a peak in 2018. actually, i met most of my current roleplay friends there and picked up a parasitic little meow meow i went on to refurbish into an oc. everyone got along really well, especially before the hunting dogs were introduced. then, i'd also say i liked it when it was me and a few other people writing from baccano!. there was a span of time where we were all regularly active and wrote with eachother every single day, and even though it was a small fandom i didn't feel particularly alone. i wish i could replicate that feeling, haha.
pet peeves / dealbreakers: i'd say that i don't really like it when i follow someone and they only ever post about ships. i'm not particularly against them myself, but i've set out to make hakkai a relatively low romance muse who people will have to do some fairly extensive plotting to ship with. because of that, it tends to be a little restricting to me as a new follower when the only open memes or prompts are focused around romance. also, this goes without saying, but i tend to unfollow people who spend too much time preaching about morality in fiction and the rpc. there are plenty of topics i'm uncomfortable with seeing myself, but it's also not as black-and-white as a lot of people tend to act like it is when it comes to the portrayal of controversial characters. actually, part of hakkai's storyline in the earlier chapters of saiyuki deals heavily with this idea of morality applied to complex human beings. also, i don't like overly extensive formatting. hahaha.
muse preference (fluff, angst, smut): i don't have a particular preference. ideally i'd like to write all of them, though i'm disinclined to write much smut just because of the shipping situation on this blog and the fact that i don't know much about sex in general so i'm not confident my writing of it is really any good. i have a tendency towards complete plots and long-running dynamics that include every genre of writing that's possible between two or more characters.
plot or memes: this is kind of a hard one! i like to pre-establish some kind of skeleton of a plot, but after that sort of thing has been worked out, i enjoy the spontanaety of memes as a jumping off point for further plot and character development. i sort of operate on a mixture of both; i'll discuss a possibility, then start a thread or send a meme or two, then reconvene to see where that takes us with the plot. it's fun that way.
long or short replies: well. long. i make some effort to curb the length of my replies when i can, but even speaking out of character like this i tend to talk on and on. even my shorter replies usually go beyond two paragraphs. hahaha.
best time to write: ... at work, really. i have an office job with a good amount of free time, so i tend to fill it by writing. i usually write my replies from the office and then draft them until later, when i can do things like add my icons, which i should really probably save to dropbox or some other form of cloud storage so i can just reply from there too. i'm at the office right now, by the way. i'll occasionally write outside of work too, but that's usually an activity reserved for afternoons or evenings, or if someone has just written something for me that i want to reply to. actually, i have a bad habit of replying to things right away. hahaha.
are you like your muse: only superficially. i talk a lot like hakkai does when it comes to "public appearances"—that is to say, i'm usually putting on airs with my tumblr posts. i'm a lot more relaxed and casual in private and with friends though, and he and i don't share a lot of traits beyond style of speech. i think hakkai is generally more actionable than i am, and he's better with kids, and he's generally a more focused and multi-talented person, and my one real talent (singing) is one of the only places where he struggles. obviously, hakkai has a very different moral code to me as well, and he likes cleaning and chores whereas i can't usually be bothered... i'm actually a lot more like his previous incarnation, tenpou gensui. there are muses of mine who i am a lot like (shen qingqiu - svsss, shirogane kei - log horizon) and muses of mine such as hakkai who i'm nothing like. i tend to project more on the muses closer to me, but i end up LIKING those who are very different a lot more.
tagged by: admittedly i stole it from a blog i was thinking about following. tagging: whoever wants to!
#『 there's no place we won't reach if it's us. 』 ⟶ dash games.#『 if these boys die i'll straight up kill myself. 』 ⟶ ooc.

Banisher Jebolesh
A cut superboss/tyrant/overlord from Chronicles II: Zero Gear Saga based on Jeb, the current CEO of Mojang and lead developer of Minecraft. This monster was primary based on the Minecraft controversy involving Mojang implementing a "chat filter" feature across all versions of Minecraft and across all servers where if you said a bad word on any world, single-player, local, or online, you would be BANNED from Minecraft and could no longer PLAY THE GAME THAT YOU LITERALLY PAID FOR. This new chat filter rule applied to all servers regardless of if they were private or public and what their target demographic was. This new rule sent the Minecraft playerbase into a FRENZY saying that this new "feature" would kill the game because if you merely said "fuck" anywhere you couldn't play the game ever again.
Thankfully, server owners had a fix for this. A new plugin was made nearly immediately that disabled the dystopian chat filter/censorship feature which is used on every popular server based on newer versions of Minecraft. Mojang/Microsoft THANKFULLY did not take action against this plugin or the people who used it to bypass the chat filter, so most servers are safe from Microsoft reading chat logs with an AI and randomly banning people if they said a bad word, especially since you can very easily fake messages in Minecraft using commands and get people you don't like permabanned from the entire game across all servers. The other fix was simply to not install any later version of Minecraft past the chat filter update and just play older versions with mods that added the new stuff in or servers with custom content. Most servers ran/run on a 1.8.4 client anyway, the last update before Microsoft bought Minecraft and ruined combat with 1.9.
Other controversies have risen since like the Mob Vote controversy and the very recent "banning of mods". Minecraft has pretty much been constantly embroiled in controversy since it's resurgence in 2021 and the new wave of Minecraft YTers like Dream. So yeah Jeb being this big bad pink sheep/glass/beacon/netherack/Microsoft colored wool monster seems pretty accurate. But ultimately this tyrant/overlord will likely be cut from Chronicles II as the original controversy is outdated at this point.

Just a little qsmp discourse post, I've been thinking about it for a while and I just wanna share something.
I agree that everyone should have their own interpretations of characters and you don't need to keep up with EVERY pov to say what you think about a character, but I do think that people should be a lot more kinder with the interpretations they have of characters in general.
This comes mainly from seeing people talking badly about characters (the latest one qWilbur, but I've seen it time and time again, with characters I enjoy and characters I don't). This always ends up with people having more context for a character's actions than others, and others making a big judgement without seeing the whole picture, or people who actually try to listen and understand a character's motives but are still upset about it.
I do think disagreeing or even disliking characters is fair, I mean, I do dislike some characters, but ALL of them have motives and explanations for why they do what they do, and also ALL of them have done questionable things to eachother.
The thing is, if I try to, I can create a horrible narrative for EVERY character (I'm not joking, I'm pretty sure I can) where they are manipulative, self-centered, selfish, hypocritical... but telling everyone: ''This character is SO evil because of this specific one thing he did one time to my favourite character!!!'' when that was a cc having fun, or maybe a slip up etc, kinda kills the fun for the ccs. Something I feel some people not take into account is that this is minecraft improvised roleplay, where at the same time creators are meeting eachother and just playing and having fun.
Yes, lighthearted moments where people are joking around kind of are lore, but sometimes, ccs just wanna have fun. This happens a lot with qRoier, where obviously his joking attitude is integrated into the lore and his character is actually joking about a lot of stuff, but like, for example, him enjoying mines is like 90% the cc wanting to have fun, not his characters actually not giving a fuck about killing the eggs (just an example of some takes I've seen). Even though if we think about what he is doing realistically, it wouldn't be an absurd assumption to make that he doesn't care. Now, I think it should be interpreted as what it is,,, Roier enjoying and having fun in the server. What I mean to say is, is this lore? Yes it is, qRoier canonically enjoys mines. But also, are we going to overanalyze this and make assumptions on his character and actually apply real-life logic into how we interpret every interactions he has? I would say that's too much, and makes the server an only roleplaying server where creators can't just fuck around and have fun.
I will say to be clear, if someone wished to bring things into their interpretation of the character that are little details like these and make it a headcanon for themselves, thats completely fair! But that's not actually canon unless the ccs decides to make it canon, and it is important to make that distinction in my opinion.
Btw I chose the qRoier example beacuse I think it wasn't a very big deal (at least in my tl) but I do not mean to create or re-open a whole debate about his morality then if it was big, I am just using him as an example. And also I say this because multiple ccs have complained on some way or another about feeling a bit overwhelmed/upset with this kind of thing. Cellbit and Baghera complained about people misinterpreting their characters and projecting into canon things they didn't mean to do, and Roier has complained (albeit a bit jokingly) that things are too heavy and people are too intense with the lore.
Honestly if this didn't bother the ccs I would tell most people that even though I dislike what I see as mischaracterizations, you can go crazy lmao, but if it makes them not be able to enjoy roleplaying as much and being in general on the server, then yknow... It could be cool if we could find a way to criticize or say what we think about characters in a more contructive way that adjusts to the ccs' vision.
#qsmp discourse#discourse#i don't wanna tag too much bc i dont want this to appear in people's searches if they dislike discourse#also i am aware this is just my opinion#i am not trying to tell people what to do i just think this would avoid a lot of annnoying dicourse where people overly critisize character#btw all I do is headcanon shit all the time so when I mean I think its ok I mean it's the best part ab all of this#woe's ranting#woe's venting

Why I Staff on Corbacraft
A quick preface: This was originally meant for a message in #donator-zone on our discord server. I hit the character limit so I moved to my iPhone's Notes app, and typed this up while on a walk. I have since reworded a couple of sentences and corrected some grammar rules.
I was talking in #︱help-me today, and it has got me thinking about why I am here and why I do what I do. This’ll be a personal ramble, not any sort of “speaking as staff” thing.
Emily joined this server a while before I did. she was young, so she didn’t speak in chat at all. I helped her with a thing once or twice, but not enough to connect with the community. Flash forward a year, maybe more. She’s playing on Corbacraft again. At that time, I didn't even know what the server’s name was or what they stood for. All I knew is I thought it would be cool to log in and walking from spawn, try to naturally find my sister’s base. (it wasn’t very hard, it was just straight ahead from the pvp arena in spawn in 2020 Orion.)
Anyway, the welcoming vibe and fun chat caused me to change my username to something less stupid, and to actually get back into minecraft. i mentioned to emily i thought it would be funny to try to apply for staff, because i used to engage in an activity known as “staff hunting”. I'd just apply and work where I was taken. Usually those servers would die out due to being run by 12 year olds.
anyway
I hadn't played in some time at this point. So every now and then I'd just log on, and mine. I had no goal, or reason to mine. I didn't sell what I mined, I'd just throw away stuff I didn't care about and put the rest in my chests. While mining, I'd watch chat. I'd see the community interact with each other. I figured out who were friends etc. Occasionally I'd speak up and try to be funny in chat, which I have since been told is how I found the people I now consider my best friends.
These friends, some gone and some still with us, “adopted” me. They saw I had no “group”, and they thought I was funny, so they included me in their friend group. This means the world to me, and I'm still so grateful for their friendship.
At this point, I had been been playing for a couple of weeks or more and I heard back about my staff application. They accepted me! Newest helper in training. At this time, the staff team was split between our two servers, Orion and Alyx. The staff manager at the time, LadyOfTheRose, asked me where I wanted to staff. She strongly suggested I pick Alyx, and I saw it seemed a little neglected, so I picked Alyx. It was at this time where my reasons for being here started to take shape, and begin to grow into what they are today.
Alyx was a more vanilla diamond economy survival vibe, so less players played there. They preferred all the frills and fancy stuff on Orion. So at this point I was torn between two servers. Do I spend my time staffing on Alyx, or hanging out with friends on Orion? For some time, I tried to balance this. But it came to a point where I'd frequently have to interrupt silly time to go resolve an issue on Alyx. So eventually I just became a mostly Alyx player.
You may be wondering why I'd choose to spend my time on a neglected server where no one played when I could have totally been playing on the well staffed, popular one. Well the answer is right there. “well staffed”. Orion had no need of me. Alyx was basically just one moderator, beep. I and a few others became helpers on Alyx to lessen the load on her. It was at this time that my priorities shifted from “fun” to “service”.
I am here primarily because I see this position as a form of service. I enjoy solving issues between players. I enjoy rolling back griefs and punishing rule breakers. I enjoy answering questions. I enjoy talking with players. and I love doing all of this because I love the community.
I may not be an active Minecraft player anymore, but I am passionate about the community, and as long as I am here I will be taking a position of service and doing what I can to give back to this community that blessed me with the friends I hold dear now.
Thank you for reading :)

Adding to this in a separate post with some more lore-oriented stuff instead of just broader theory, I've mostly assumed across all mcyt things that the characters are doing some degree of LARP. So if Phil doesn't recognize an End Portal or can't leave Quesadilla Island even though he does both on hardcore, I treat it as LARP or self-imposed. Or even just irony.
It also ties into my Bored Gods conception for a lot of these characters. I started this idea with the Hermits originally, but I think it applies here too. Basically, the characters we're watching are pandimensional beings in the Minecraft multiverse and can do anything, resurrect whenever they die, and in some worlds can even fly and create blocks from nothing, so what if that was part of the lore? What if every roleplay server we see is the consequence of these cosmic beings who can do everything, and got so bored they decided to challenge themselves by playing in survival and with some form of organized enemy?
Phil's multiple hardcore worlds fit perfectly into this idea. An immensely powerful being who decides that the only way he can create something with meaning would be if he could lose it is a cool concept. It also makes the QSMP eggs more interesting because those weren't part of the plan. If he wanted to pretend to have a son on Dream SMP, no harm no foul if that ended tragically. But now these beings that aren't part of the game he's playing are part of his life, and he has to care for them in a new way. Admittedly, I just made up the last part but I really like it.
CC!phil in early stream confirmed that he's played the same character on most servers (definitely dsmp and qsmp, not sure about smpearth, not osmp), which is exploding my mind because on a quick count what we just got confirmed includes:
Hardcore phil canon to DSMP
Emduo part of Q!phil's history
q!Phil angel of death
q!phil bad dad phil allegations are back
q!phil city-destroyer and war criminal during the eggs missing arc, he was so restrained
Ender king and whatever THAT means implied as part of c!Phil's backstory
c!phil (hurt wings) confirmed "child of the sky"
c!phil confirmed kisses men
q!phil confirmed ancient immortal
q!phil confirmed fridgefucker
the list goes on
#qsmp#philza#hermitcraft#i also just like cosmic beings that operate on their own rules#still not sure about the egg part or what the federation is in this theory#but it's something#i'll probably work this into the next crossover fic#i already have some ideas on how the cosmology works

You Promised
scaramouche x reader, modern au.

angst, insults, no comfort
being scaramouche’s friend was.. challenging. having to put up with his snarky comments, sometimes cruel behavior, but you loved him. you had been his friend since childhood, trailing behind him even in high school. but if it wasn’t you who else would it be? scaramouche had a history of not getting along with your peers, always having to apologize for him and the things he says.
in a way you were dependent on each other. he counted on you to keep him company and out of trouble, and you cared deeply for him that you only wanted to spend your time with him. so then came the promise. the promise to go to college together and become roommates, leaving behind your broken families and tragic pasts as you both planned to go into adulthood together.
but somewhere along the way he started acting.. different. it was the last year of high school and the time to apply to college was coming up. you nudged scaramouche as he was drifting off to sleep next to you.
“hey! scara! wake up. we haven’t picked out a college yet.”
“i don’t care.. just pick something and i’ll manage to find something i want to do.” he grumbled.
you shake your head as you click on several websites until deciding on one. now all that was left was to find student housing on campus. you figured you’d do that with scara once he was awake.
watching him sleep felt almost comforting. his usual smirk off of his face and replaced with a relaxed expression was refreshing. even in his sleep he would find tranquility. a tap on scaramouches shoulder broke your trance as you watched the blonde girl shake him awake.
of course it was lumine. scaramouche yawned as he nodded up at lumine, her hands on his as you watched him being pulled out of the classroom by her.
it seemed like ever since she had come along he had kept his distance from you. your usual friday sleepovers turned to afternoons on wednesdays with lumine taking up his time on those days.
what was so special about her?
sure she was.. beautiful but what did she have that you didn’t?
she hadn’t known scaramouche since practically birth like you did. she hasn’t been the one to comfort him when his mother would say the meanest words to him.
so how?
how had she managed to whisk him away from your life?
you sighed, packing your bag as you knew better than to wait on him. you already knew he’d be walking her home rather than you.
once you got home you sat at your desk, hearing bloops as you put your headset on. it was scaramouche, messaging you if you wanted to play minecraft. you joined the call as the both of you played minecraft together.
you felt happy.. finally an afternoon when he wasn’t with her. he was having fun with you instead.
oh how you missed these days.
“hey scara, how do i cut this? this mod is confusing..” you struggled with cutting a tomato with a new food mod he had added to your server. he was silent on the other end of the call before he spoke, scaring you as you just stared at your monitor.
“archons.. how annoying could you be? you ask me for help with every little thing.
i get it your small brain can’t comprehend basic common sense, but do you have to bother me for everything?
and you want to go to college? when you can’t even figure out how to cut something on fucking minecraft?”
you stayed silent as he went on a tangent about how he really thought of you. your hands off of your keyboard as tears slipped from your eyes, rolling down your cheeks.
“i cant believe i promised to go to college with you. you know— i didn’t even want to. i just said it because i pity you. i know how much you need me when i don’t even need you. it’s so fucking funny to me how the ONE normal person in your life can’t stand you. but there you are, always following me around like a sick puppy.
it’s pitiful y/n it really is.
and you know what? i’m going to go to college with lumine instead. she’s so much more tolerable to be around than you. she doesn’t blab to me about the smallest shit i couldn’t care less about.
i know the way you look at me and i promise you i’ll never feel the same. id rather die then spend another lifetime with you.”
you choked back a sob as you grit your teeth, yelling a “fuck you.” into your mic as you shut off the server. you sobbed into your hands as you heard numerous pings coming from your dm with him.
scara: oh now you’re gonna cry? little y/n finally grew some balls now huh?
scara: too bad for you. you’re alone now. lumine was here beside me watching your stupid little outburst. have fun facing us in school for that next few weeks.
scara: don’t forget who made you. you would’ve stayed the same loser you were back then if it weren’t for me.
scara: you’re nothing
scara: you have no friends for a reason you whiney bitch
you screamed, holding onto your mouse as you clicked the bright red block button over his profile. angry tears leaked from your eyes as you pulled out your phone, blocking him on all of the social media you had him added on.
how didn’t you see it? you knew he was becoming distant but you didn’t think he hated you.
your heart ached at the thought of your life without him. the reminder that he had chosen lumine over you felt like being stabbed.
but had he ever cared for you? the same thing way you did him?
how did the once sweet, shy scaramouche turn into this monster you couldn’t recognize?
you spent the rest of the school year alone. avoiding his and lumine’s gazes every time you walked into the classroom. you’d ignore his comments and his constant need to throw small wads of paper at you.
you never thought you’d be on the receiving end of his cruelty but here you were, loud laughs as lumine pointed at you while they stood together.
how you wished to get away from them as soon as possible.
once it was graduation, you didn’t bother showing up to the ceremony. instead you picked up your diploma from the front office. you were finally going to get the fuck out of there.
you got home and packed your things, you had picked a college in a foreign region. sumeru, the nation of knowledge.
you smiled as you boarded your flight, no one to greet you off as you sat there. a feeling of relief washing over you as the plane took off.
“goodbye to the boy i once knew, and the home that wasn’t really home.”

Important information for everyone who plays Minecraft (Java Edition) multiplayer:
There is a very serious exploit that has recently been found in Minecraft (as of Dec 9 2021) that affects nearly every version of the game, both modded and vanilla.
You should avoid playing on public Minecraft servers until this vulnerability is patched on the respective Minecraft version you play on. Mojang has not yet addressed this at time of posting, it is unknown if they will retroactively patch older MC versions or not. (I suspect they will, but that cannot be guaranteed yet.)
The exploit in question allows for RCE by means of sending a malicious chat message. Yes, you read that right- a chat message. This means that a malicious actor could steal your passwords/session tokens from ram, install viruses etc on your computer. It's real bad.
Both Clients and Servers alike are affected by this.
Fortunately, modern versions of minecraft (since 1.16 - 1.18) are spared the worst effects of this exploit from what I know. There is still a chance that malicious actors could lag your game/servers on these versions, but for the most part playing on these versions should be OK. [EDIT: Disregard this whole paragraph! It's wrong!!! Your client/server are only safe if you receive a software patch to update this, and only on versions 1.17+ at that! AND only if both the client and server it's connected to have both received this patch!]
This exploit is known to exploit all versions of Minecraft 1.12.2 up to Minecraft 1.15.2 [EDIT: actually up to 1.18], regardless of vanilla/modded status, on both the server and client. If you play on these minecraft versions, ABSOLUTELY AVOID PLAYING ON ANY PUBLIC SERVERS, as your computer and personal information could be at risk. It is possible that older versions of Minecraft could be affected as well, essentially any version of minecraft which uses Java 8 could potentially be affected. [EDIT: There have been reports of this exploit affecting version 1.7, 1.8, etc. The java version is irrelevant.]
A band-aid fix you can apply is to add the following startup flags to Minecraft when launching the game:
-Dlog4j2.formatMsgNoLookups=true
But I wouldn't recommend relying on this, as the server you connect to could still be vulnerable itself.
Again, I recommend not playing multiplayer at all until mojang delivers some kind of patch to all clients, even then be wary about servers on older versions (1.16.5 and older).
I will update this post as more information becomes available. Stay safe, everyone.
EDIT 1 (6:26 pm): The jvm flag workaround only applies to Minecraft 1.17 and later. This contradicts things I've seen reading the papermc discord server, but it comes from a reliable source (the fabric modloader developers).
[image ID: Discord message that reads: "Update: The above workarounds only cover Minecraft 1.17 and later, avoid running servers or connecting to servers for earlier versions!" end ID]
It is possible that some misinformation is being spread on this, perhaps to curb the amount of people using this exploit via obfuscation. I don't want to give the impression that you could be safe when I'm not sure, so for now don't even try to play on any server below Minecraft 1.17 at all (or connect to any server using a minecraft client below version 1.17).
EDIT 2 (7:00 pm): I am seeing a lot of people saying that the JVM flag workaround doesn't help at all, or that it only helps for minecraft versions 1.17+. For the time being, just avoid playing minecraft multiplayer entirely, unless you are certain that both the client you are using and server you are playing on has patched this issue. THE JAVA VERSION YOU USE DOES NOT MATTER!!! I'VE CROSSED OUT THE INFORMATION IN THE INITIAL POST THAT IS NOW KNOWN TO BE INCORRECT. I apologize for spreading information before I knew more.
As far as I am aware, if you are playing minecraft 1.17+, there is a patch available to the fabric modloader that fixes this exploit. The latest version of the fabric modloader (0.12.9) patches the exploit on both the client and server end (only for versions 1.17+). Again, you have to be certain that the server you are playing on is patched to be reasonably sure of anything- don't connect/play otherwise. Paper 1.17.1 build #398, and Paper 1.18 build #64 should patch this vulnerability as well, but there is still a lot of information coming out very quickly so nothing is certain at the moment.
EDIT 3 (8:10 pm): Mojang has pushed a patch out to all vanilla clients, versions 1.12.2 and up. Close your game, open the launcher & start the game again to receive the patch from the launcher (assuming you are using the launcher provided by Mojang/Microsoft!).
[Image ID: Tweets from @\slicedlime on twitter. The first tweet reads: "A critical security issue has been found that affects Minecraft. If you have the game running, please shut down all running instances of the game and Launcher and restart - your Launcher will automatically download the fix." The second tweet reads: "I'd advice you to not play versions of Minecraft earlier than 1.12 right now." end ID]
Although the vanilla game may be patched for 1.12+, I'd still recommend against considering it "Safe" to join any multiplayer servers just yet. If you use any sort of mods, especially in a heavily modded environment, your client still may not be safe- there's no guarantee that 3rd party minecraft launchers will automatically patch the game for you, for example. Not to mention that any mods/plugins you use may, themselves, be vulnerable to the exploit independent of the base game!
However, that being said, if you play on a completely vanilla client, on a completely vanilla server (such as realms), and you've restarted each of them & ensured they're properly updated, you should be safe. But if you use any mods or plugins, or play on a server that uses any mods or plugins, it may not be safe. Update. Update. Update!!!
And, as stated by slicedlime, versions below 1.12 are completely vulnerable. Do not play these versions in multiplayer at all.
EDIT 4 (8:45 pm): not to be outdone, slicedlime has clarified that the patched vanilla .jars will only fix the exploit in Minecraft versions 1.17+. Anything older than Minecraft 1.17 should still be considered vulnerable.
EDIT 5 (10:20 AM, Dec 10th): I slept for a little bit, seems like Mojang have been taking this very seriously which is good to see. For one thing: they just released Minecraft 1.18.1, which patches this exploit on client & server alike. They've published a blog post explaining how to patch your clients & servers to alleviate this issue: (x).
The only major version that currently has no proper fix available (server-side) is Minecraft 1.8.x and Minecraft 1.9.x (the version with the old pvp, and the update immediately following that one). There are some fixes available for this version, but for now, avoid any server that runs on Minecraft 1.8. That version is so old, it's bound to have other security vulnerabilities as well. (Hypixel is exempt from this, they've implemented their own mitigations to this issue independently according to this forum post: (x). Other pvp/minigames servers running 1.8, you will have to check with the server admins/forums/etc.).
Instructions for ensuring your client & server are secured from this exploit are detailed below;
Launchers:
First-party launcher(s):
Microsoft's Launcher (All versions): Simply close any instances of the game that are running, close the minecraft launcher if it's open, and re-open the launcher.
Mojang's launcher (All versions) (the one that also has Minecraft Dungeons, that keeps yelling at you to install the newer launcher because microsoft said so): Same as above, as this launcher is still officially supported by mojang. (This is the launcher I use, so I can personally confirm this)
Older Minecraft launchers: These will probably still work, but you should probably just update your launcher- AFAIK, only the "Microsoft launcher" and "Mojang launcher" have support for Microsoft accounts. (Come next year or so, you won't be able to launch the game if you have not migrated your account to a Microsoft account, so using an older launcher that does not have support for these kind of accounts is problematic).
Optifine: If you use optifine at all, please keep scrolling for instructions on how to ensure your optifine installation is safe, regardless of the launcher you use or any other mods.
Third-party launchers:
Optifine: If you use optifine at all, please keep scrolling for instructions on how to ensure your optifine installation is safe, regardless of the launcher you use or any other mods.
MultiMC (all affected versions): I don't have a lot of experience with it but according to this github issue (x), MultiMC has patched this for all clients using any modpacks. Make sure you have updated to the latest version of MultiMC available (0.6.14 at time of writing) to ensure the fix is applied properly. Just close the launcher and re-open it.
Curseforge Launcher: I have no idea. I don't use this and it doesn't seem to be open-source.
ATLauncher: I don't know and can't be bothered to figure out, but this launcher does at least seem to be maintained unlike the next one on the list. Keep your launcher up to date and read any news about this, consider switching to MultiMC or just the vanilla launcher if you're uncertain.
Technic Launcher: I don't know much about tekkit or the technic launcher, I just remember this being one of the only non-mojang launchers I've used before. It appears this launcher has not been updated since 2017. Do not launch your game using Technic launcher, you may not be safe from this exploit. If you're just playing modpacks in singleplayer, you should be OK, though. Sidenote: This launcher also doesn't have support for Microsoft accounts, which will make it unusable in a multiplayer setting anyway (unless you run offline mode, which is just asking for trouble). Use MultiMC or some other launcher.
Lunar Client: I installed lunar client just to write this post. I hope you're happy. Their website is so unclear about so many important things that I wasn't even sure if lunar client operated as its own launcher or not, but after installing it, it appears it does. Anyhow, the launcher seems to grab the .jar files from Mojang directly- however, I have no idea if these will be retroactively applied to existing lunar client installations. Someone who uses lunar client, please let me know. I also don't know if they are patching optifine in such a way that it'll automatically apply the patch to Minecraft that fixes this exploit. I've read in some discord servers that lunar client apparently updated to fix this exploit, but I can't find anything on their website or any sort of changelogs to corroborate this. All in all this just made me dislike lunar client even more than I already did. I guess if you really need to use lunar client, it seems to be actively maintained, so it's probably safe. maybe. Maybe? I don't know. Someone who knows stuff about lunar client, please message me if you know more. I am a minecraft boomer and I don't know how these fancy one-click install clients work and I don't want to. I don't trust third party clients that aren't open source to handle my minecraft/microsoft login credentials!
Any other launcher: This is the part where I say "I don't know" again. I don't have much experience with modded minecraft, so I'm not even sure what launcher(s) people use for big modpacks and the like. Rule of thumb, if it hasn't received an update in years, consider it unsafe out of caution. Please let me know if I should add info on any major launchers that I missed here, and I can update this post.
Client (Optifine):
I don't use Optifine anymore (I use Sodium + Starlight + other client-side fabric mods), but from what I know of when I did use Optifine: Optifine's installer will find the Minecraft .jar for the version of Minecraft you're installing optifine for. It then applies the Optifine patches on top of this vanilla .jar file, and saves the modified .jar as its own file, separate from the vanilla game. As such,
If you use optifine at all, you NEED to launch the vanilla game again for the respective version of optifine you want to play on, so that you receive the patched vanilla .jar files from Mojang. (Follow the instructions listed above in the "launchers" section). After this, you need to run the appropriate (latest!) optifine installer for your minecraft version of choice. This will apply the optifine patches on top of Mojang's patched .jar file, and everything should (hopefully) work after this. Then, if you use optifine as part of a modpack, you need to move the newly-patched optifine .jar file into your mods folder (for forge) or select the newly patched optifine .jar from within the launcher (playing w/o other mods, or other mod loaders).
Client (Modded/Modpacks):
This will depend a bit on the mods you're using, how they modify the game, which modloader they make use of, as well as which launcher you use to launch the game. I'll cover the main ones that I know about.
Fabric Modloader: Fabric is the best modloader (extremely biased). It's also completely independent of the Forge ecosystem of mods, so it's not used as much, particularly in larger modpacks (save for All of Fabric, which, you guessed it, uses fabric). But I highly recommend it if you're someone who primarily plays vanilla or vanilla-lite type of minecraft. Anyway, Fabric supports Minecraft versions from 1.14 onward. To quote one of the main developers, "When using Fabric on the client, restarting the Minecraft launcher will be enough to automatically fix the security issue for all Minecraft versions". I also recommend updating your fabric loader version to version 0.12.10 or later (this is the latest at time of writing), as this release of fabric patches the exploit. If you use a third-party launcher, please see the "launchers" section for information on your specific launcher, but as long as you're using fabric loader 0.12.10 or later, you should be safe.
Forge Modloader: The big one. Nearly every big modpack you've ever heard of relies on the Forge modloader. As of time of writing, you will need to update your forge installation to the latest version of Forge for the respective Minecraft version you play to be safe from this exploit. So far, at time of writing, Forge has provided updates to every major version from 1.12.2 onwards to patch this exploit. Unsure of when/if they will provide patches for previous versions (1.7.10 anybody?). If you are using the latest release of Forge for any minecraft version 1.12+, you should be safe from this exploit. If you use a third-party launcher, please see the "launchers" section for information on your specific launcher, but so long as you're using the latest available version of Forge for your minecraft version on 1.12 onwards, you should be safe.
Other modloaders: do these even exist idk lol. I guess there's Rift for 1.13, but I sincerely doubt anyone is still playing on 1.13... right? right...? Message me if there's some noteworthy modloader aside from the big 2 out there right now, but I think these are the only ones worth noting for client-side mods/modpacks. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Servers (Vanilla):
Please follow the instructions in Mojang's blog post: (x). They explain it better than I could.
Realms:
Realms are always automatically updated to the latest Minecraft version. As the latest vanilla minecraft version is 1.18.1 where this is patched, you should have nothing to worry about.
Servers (Craftbukkit/Spigot/Paper/etc):
Craftbukkit/Spigot: Don't use craftbukkit in 2021. Use spigot or Paper instead. Spigot has released patched .jar files for every Spigot version since 1.8.8 onwards in response to this exploit. Please follow the instructions from Spigot's forum post on this if you use Bukkit/Spigot: (x). However, I would not recommend using these Spigot releases for any version older than ~1.15+ or so, because older versions have known vulnerabilities aside from this one, and those likely did not get patched- you'll need to use alternative methods to correctly patch your older servers, or update your fork of choice to the latest release available (i don't know of any prominent public forks of spigot supporting old mc versions, let me know if there's any I should mention). Also, consider using Paper.
Paper/Purpur/Tuinity: Tuinity merged with the Paper project recently, if you're using modern MC versions, please switch from Tuinity to Paper as it has all the features from Tuinity baked in already. Purpur, I'm not sure about, but they've probably released a patch for this exploit. For Paper servers, the Paper devs have released patches for every major version from Minecraft 1.16.5 onwards. If you are using Paper for an older Minecraft version, a moderator in the Paper community has graciously provided files you can drop into your server folder to patch this exploit (currently in the pinned comments in the PaperMC discord, in the #paper-help channel). File to download, by Minecraft version: For 1.10: (x) For 1.11: (x) For 1.12: (x) For 1.13: (x) For 1.14: (x) For 1.15: (x) After downloading the file for your respective Minecraft version, place it in the main directory (where your paper.jar is) and add the following jvm flag to your startup script: -Dlog4j.configurationFile=log4j2.xml Make sure to put this flag BEFORE the -jar part of the startup script. If your server provider does not allow you to modify your java startup flags, you'll have to submit a ticket to them requesting they change your server's startup flags to include this flag. Although, it is possible that certain server providers may automatically implement their own patches for servers (this sounds kind of nightmarish to implement depending on certain things but hey what do I know). If you don't know what java flags are, and you're running a minecraft server, please learn. Consider reading this post by one of the main developers for the Paper project: (x).
Cauldron: Do people still use this? It was last updated for Minecraft 1.7.10 ... This probably isn't safe to use unless you whitelist your server to trusted friends only.
hMod: You are still living in 2010, living the high of beta Minecraft. You probably don't care how many viruses your computer gets.
Other Bukkit/Spigot/Paper forks: I'm not sure of any prominent ones aside from those I listed. Check the latest releases to see if they have a fix for this exploit. If you're using the latest Minecraft version (1.18.1 at time of writing), it's already patched in the vanilla game though.
Servers (Fabric):
For versions 1.14 - 1.18, you need to update your fabric version to 0.12.10 or later to patch this exploit. For 1.18.1 and later, this is already patched in vanilla. If there's fabric versions for older versions than 1.14, they're not supported afaik (fabric was originally released for 1.14).
Servers (Forge):
This may depend on the kind of modpack you're using, but I assume that if you are using the latest Forge version for 1.12 onwards, you should be OK.
Servers (Sponge):
Sponge Vanilla: I can't find any information on whether this exploit happens on Sponge, but I assume it probably does. Wait for an update.
Sponge Forge: Read above section about forge.
"What about X modpack / server / client?":
Modpacks: RLcraft: Uses forge 1.12.2. Update forge. Pixelmon Modpack: Uses forge 1.12.2. Update forge. Hexxit Updated: Uses forge 1.12.2. Update forge. Skyfactory 4: Uses forge 1.12.2. Update forge. Enigmatica 6: Uses forge 1.16.5. Update forge. Tekkit: Uses old forge versions. Unsafe for multiplayer. Other forge modpacks: Update forge. If it's not on Minecraft 1.12.2 or later, it's unsafe for multiplayer. All of Fabric: Uses fabric. Update fabric. Fabulously optimized: Uses fabric. Update fabric.
Servers: Hypixel: Should be safe if your client is. Cubecraft: Should be safe if your client is. Minehut: I don't understand what minehut is. Is it its own server? Is it a server host?? Once again I feel like a minecraft boomer. I'm not sure. Massivecraft: Unsure. EmpireMinecraft: Probably ok, they use Paper and one of the lead developers is also a lead developer on the Paper project.
Clients: Lunar Client: I don't know. Update it anyways. Consider just joining your fav servers from vanilla (& vanilla launcher) for the time being. Badlion Client: I don't know. Their website isn't working for me. People seem to prefer lunar client these days, anyway. Nodus: You are still living in 2010. Please look outside. Also, don't use hacked clients unless you're prepared to get hacked yourself.
Anything else:
This only affects Minecraft: Java edition.
I think I covered every major client/launcher/server software for Minecraft??? Probably?! Other than hacked clients or cracked minecraft launchers. Assume these will always give you a million viruses when you download them. Just buy the game or borrow someone else's account, it's fairly cheap.
If I've missed any major client/servers, please let me know. I may publish a more formal blog post on the update/mitigation process, perhaps in a github gist or something, for people to reference without having to go to my tumblr blog. For now, though, I hope this helped you, and feel free to ask me any questions! (My tumblr inbox is always open.)

im pretty sure this wasn't what you intended but im overly invested in the minecraft legal system now. especially with how they approach murder considering respawn is a thing
My au interpretation of the Minecraft legal system:
There are server bound legal systems and the universal system. Server bound systems are.. well.. server bound. They only apply to crimes committed on said server and can have their own laws and punishments. Very free. The universal system is where enforcers come in. The universal system is the barest bone laws that every player must abide by unless a server explicitly has an order passed to exempt them and label them an anarchy server. Even then, anarchy rules only apply in the server. If a player commits a universal crime and moves to an anarchy server, enforcers still reserve the right to retrieve the player from said server.
A lot of the universal crimes are pretty straightforward with a few all around rules. It’s only counted as universal if the crime extends outside the server. Robbery is stealing something from the server itself, like taking an entity from a server to your personal world or a different server.
What murder in universal law is officially called “homicide of code.” This is because while killing a player doesn’t do much, (even in hardcore scenarios, players are unaffected, just spectators of that world now) it is possible to kill someone enough times that the stress on their code causes it to change and corrupt. It’s murdering the identity of the player and forcibly changing them. This comes with a lot of complications and can make a player’s life very difficult. Maybe they can’t jump anymore or their arm disappears or they’re constantly reset to a previous position.
This is the kind of offense enforcers do not take lightly, because it generally means that a person actively sought out the victim multiple times.
Now, it’s not that black and white. Corruption of code is unpredictable, and someone could kill a player twice and corruption could occur, but universal law doesn’t often allow leniency for that kind of nuance.
How they handle their apprehended players is essentially bedrock prison for however long their sentence is after court.

so like. i don’t think dsmp should have a reboot in terms of like. how reboots typically are. same story same characters just told in a ‘better’ way now that they know better.
i wouldn’t mind the title of dsmp 2 or whatever related to ‘dream smp’ though.
i think it would be fun if they made another server with all the same people, or at least most of the same people (whomever wants to return), and just. started fresh, completely fresh. new characters, new lore, new story. completely and utterly. not a sequel either or at least not a complete sequel. no one referencing events of the dsmp (unless, maybe for a handful of characters it applies to their lore if they chose).
like the idea of a “reboot” with rehashing the same characters and story and lore is bad.
but if they simply just make a new server on 1.19 and invite all the people that is already on the server and go ‘play and make stuff up as you go’ then that is absolutely fine, and i actually encourage it?
because a lot of the newer people, like eryn or cpk or aimsey, and even some of the moderately new like hannah and boomer and foolish and puffy, etc, will then get to be there from the beginning, and have more of a chance to story tell, if they wish to. they’ll also have more time to make things their own instead of trying to shoehorn in things to an already active and ongoing plot.
i think in this sense, if they make a new server that will be fine and okay, even if some peoples’ stories from the dsmp end up not getting told? its overall their choice with how they want to continue their characters, and that includes not at all, and if they chose that they’d rather start something new, that could be fun.
besides having new characters with new stories and plots being told through the minecraft medium can be SO fun.
we see this with so many other minecraft based fandoms, how they do “reboots” without being related to prior ones, or seasons if you will. think of the last life/third life/double life series, where they all have lore and stories and stuff but it’s reset, for the most part, every season. then they tell something different.
like. honestly a reboot or season 2 could be VERY GOOD if it’s actually a blank slate, or like 98% a blank slate (again some characters i think could benefit or have ways to be connected to the dsmp as their backstory and have it work).
i think you guys are just really scared of change and things ending up horribly.
if, and i mean if, the reboot is how i’ve said as some sort of blank slate server where these guys get to do stuff all over but new with different characters, it will ultimately be good.
the dream smp as a server has been ongoing for 2+ years. some of these people haven’t even gotten to explore or play on the server due to lore. think of cc!dream. he had to do a whole out of character stream after the prision break because he genuinely hadn’t seen most the builds that happened since he’d been imprisioned, and he wanted to see them. let alone actually just getting to play minecraft with friends.
the dsmp has become so lore heavy that it is story being told through minecraft, not minecraft with a story being told.
they don’t get to mess or fool about much anymore, and again i think a reboot would let them be able to do this.
we’d get that nostalgic feel of how casual rp was on the dsmp during 2020, we’ll get to enjoy new characters and immerse ourselves in a new story with new lore.
this is a good thing, i think. i genuinely don’t think most the cc’s on the server would even be for a total reboot. a lot seem to want to be done with the dsmp story like, 6 months ago.
i think a lot want to do new things, so a “reboot” will probably just be a season 2 type deal with a new story, new characters, new world, etc. and i am excited for that.

technoblade: a takedown - pt. 1
(not clickbait)
aka i go over every argument people make against c!techno one by one and determine whether they’re valid, false, or a mixture of both. i rewatched every single stream/video, including those on his alt channel, so i could approach this with the most information possible. i’ll be breaking this up into parts because there’s just too much otherwise. all about the characters unless stated.
techno believes in a ‘dog eat dog’ world - false
this is an argument i see used a lot when people discuss techno so i wanted to address it first. luckily, the stream in which he says this is only his fifth stream on the server. there’s one major reason why this argument falls apart and one minor reason that isn’t objective like the first.
first and most importantly: techno has never acted on this. even at the beginning - which is when this comment was made - he was helping his allies, from building railings to keep them from falling, making a potato farm, and all the gear he grinded for to equip his allies in pogtopia with. moving forward, he’s also helped out plenty of people: giving tommy a place to stay and items, telling phil to reach out to ranboo after doomsday, as well as giving both tommy and ranboo food when asked. there’s more, of course, but the point is he’s never once followed up on this statement. he teamed up with quackity to stop the egg. he spoke to niki about how he was giving anarchy a bad reputation because of the violence and wanted to take a different approach which he has.
when people use this argument to insist that techno is the villain, it doesn’t hold up because it’s merely taking one statement he made and upholding it as a main part of his character when his actions and later statements have shown that he doesn’t actually believe in this randian view point. objectively, i can’t see how this argument can extend beyond ‘well, he said it’. regardless of what he said during the pogtopia arc, he’s said the opposite later - wanting everyone to live free with no oppression or imperialism - and has never acted on it nor brought it up later. this take honestly seems disingenuous and was in fact the driving factor of this post.
second and not as critical, techno mentions multiple times during each of his first streams that he’s not sure who all is on his side. this is a reoccurring point for him. he makes the comment about wanting a dog eat dog world during the red festival stream, while speaking to bad and sam. the first part of the conversation is techno asking about state secrets since they’re (as far as techno knows) on manberg’s side. bad mentions schlatt killing cats and techno launches into a spiel about massive anarchy and the weak being huddled in fear, asking them how does that sound. bad says as long as there’s no cat murder, perhaps. bad then asks techno what his ‘single issue’ is and techno responds that he wants to destroy the government. to me, the context of the conversation, who he’s speaking to and what his opinion of those people is, is an important thing to consider.
techno’s ‘we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it’ comment means he was always going to betray pogtopia/l’manberg - valid but not how you think it is
i’ve seen people say that techno saying ‘we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it’ is a clear sign that he was always intending to betray pogtopia/l’manberg which, yeah?
but i wouldn’t call it a betrayal.
he says the ‘we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it’ line at the end of the ‘eve of revolution’ stream while he’s talking to quackity, ponk, and sam. the conversation is as follows:
techno, to quackity: i’m glad we could get to know each other. i heard you’re on our side now. i heard you betrayed schlatt.
quackity: yeah, that’s right. are you betraying anyone?
techno: no. i would never betray my personal ideals.
[some chatter from ponk and quackity]
sam: what does that mean? what if the people you’re fighting along [sic] have different ideals than you, though? doesn’t that mean you’d betray them?
techno: listen... we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it.
then techno states that he ‘said what he said’ when sam questions him about his choice of metaphor.
he actually uses the same malaphor at the beginning of the ‘revolution’ stream when they (quackity and tubbo) question him again and in that case techno definitely avoids the subject which isn’t a good thing but considering everyone was so worked up about the possible traitor, i can completely understand.
overall, techno is extremely upfront about his intentions. yes, there is definitely some miscommunication between all the parties because none of them were on the same page but that doesn’t make techno the bad guy here nor does it mean he betrayed anyone. he was upfront about his intentions from the start.
in his first two streams, he makes a joke that if they happen to set up a new government/president that he would just take that one down and it would be a never-ending cycle. over and over, he says that he wants to do destroy the government/manberg. when tommy mentions taking it back, techno says, ‘what do you mean, take it back?’ though this kind of gets lost in the middle of everything else - dsmp (lack of) communication strikes again.
the takeaway that i see here a lot is that techno always intended to betray them because he knew tommy wanted to take back l’manberg and knew that he would go against them if they set up a new government. and this is true to an extent! he did know that tommy wanted l’manberg back and he did know that he would go against them if they set up a new government. but wilbur was also telling techno that he was on board with the whole anarchy thing.
none of them were on the same page and that surely led to a big chunk of what happened and hurt feelings on both sides but that doesn’t mean techno betrayed anyone or that he was the bad guy for doing exactly what he said he would do from day one.
techno destroying (l’)manberg was wrong - it’s complicated
the first thing to address here is that for most anarchists, destroying a government isn’t a bad thing. in fact, taking down the government/state is basically our goal. now, i don’t speak for all anarchists, of course, but overall the general feeling is that violence in the name of overthrowing an oppressive government is not inherently bad. there’s no way to do a one-for-one here because it’s minecraft but the general sentiment remains. so while violence enacted against the state is a bad thing for people who aren’t anarchists, techno has no reason to and would not view it as inherently bad.
but it did hurt people and techno himself acknowledges that fact. he’s acknowledged what he’s done when confronted about it. he hasn’t said he was wrong because understanding that it was hurtful doesn’t mean he believes he was wrong. to him, he wasn’t. destroying what he viewed as an oppressive system was the right thing to do, even if it hurt people.
(also this isn’t any kind of meta but i think it needs to be pointed out that wilbur had already set off the tnt and techno summoned two killable mobs which did plenty of damage but he didn’t say wilbur was the great who came before them for no reason.)
again, this is going to be the most controversial part of this post because i don’t believe destroying government is a bad thing and i don’t believe techno is wrong for believing that as well. there are better ways to address the problem and techno is adjusting his tactics but if another government was to be established, i don’t believe he would be in the wrong to destroy it because he’s an anarchist.
the tl;dr of this section honestly could just be summed up with ‘watch less marvel, read more ursula k. le guin’.
‘techno is the villain because he called tommy the hero’ - so very false
this is a take i’ve seen that to this day i don’t understand.
techno calling tommy the hero does not mean he was setting himself up as the villain in any capacity. it was merely pointing out tommy’s habit of putting himself at the forefront of almost every conflict, trying to shoulder everything, no matter how it hurts tommy himself. the speech was directed at that and nothing else. it doesn’t mean techno is the villain, it doesn’t even mean there is a villain; there are more stories to be told than the classic hero-villain and the hero-villain narrative doesn’t always apply to stories. (i’d certainly argue that it doesn’t apply to the dream smp but that’s a different conversation.)
techno is to blame for tubbo’s death - false
i think this one has been done to death but what would a techno post be without it?
no, techno is not to blame.
he said over and over that he was outnumbered and believed that if he had done anything, everyone would’ve turned on him and ‘torn him to shreds’. even if that wasn’t the case, it is what techno believed. he had no reason to think that he could take the entire crowd out until he actually fired the rocket launcher. and remember, he tested the rocket launcher earlier during the festival on niki (who volunteered) and it didn’t kill her. when he realized the amount of splash damage it did, he gives a surprised laugh and then begins firing into the crowd.
as for saying he was under ‘mild’ amounts of peer pressure, techno has a habit of minimizing. not just the things he’s done, but often situations that he’s been in that were stressful. he stated that he deals poorly with high stress situations and one of the cognitive distortions that can come with anxiety is minimization. techno doesn’t actually believe it was ‘mild’ peer pressure - it was a situation that caused him enough distress that he brings it up later at doomsday - but it’s easier to deal with a situation when you downplay it, it’s easier for techno to keep up that calm façade when he’s acting as if whatever happened wasn’t that big of a deal even if it was. again, the way he speaks about it on doomsday was clearly upset and emotional.
the only person to blame for tubbo’s death is schlatt. he was the one pulling the trigger and techno was the gun.
if you made it this far, thank you for sticking it out! i spent so many hours rewatching all the streams, some of them multiple times, while taking notes to be able to do this. i’m extremely passionate about techno and i feel as if a lot of the arguments against him tend to miss the nuance of his character. this project is on-going and i’ll be going over the butcher army/retirement storylines next. feel free to submit any points you’d like to see addressed!
