“Dick,” the kid said. Don frowned. “Well, now. No need to be rude about it.” The kid tilted his head. “No. My name’s Dick.” “Oh.” Don bit his lower beak. “My name’s Don.”

TIBBY UPDATE
A philia a day is ongoing til end of the month and I'll be posting a poll for the next "project" June 28th
I have a kofi for commissions but I'll be opening a tier to get access to the queued fics four days in advance starting July.
Here Comes the Bride chapters are going to be posted every Friday until the story is finished. That's not to say I won't still write the Groom and the Bride things, but they'll be noted as "side quests" like the other requests.
I'll be starting a Batman/DC central Patreon in August. The story will contain original characters who are shipped with canon so prepare for that. there will be parallel snippets of events happening in chapters posted for higher tiers as well as polls in regards to a special project.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was barely up when you walked into Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, coffee cup in one hand, badge clipped to your scrub top. Daylight streamed through the rotating doors—mocking, almost, in its calm. Unlike the night shifts that had swallowed you whole in adrenaline and triage chaos, today felt like stepping into unfamiliar territory. You preferred the dark. Things made sense in the dark, sharper instincts, fewer witnesses. But today, you'd be working under the full scrutiny of fluorescent lights, bustling staff, and most importantly, him.
You’d barely set your cup down at the nurses’ station when you heard Dana’s voice.
“Dr. Williams,” she said, clipboard under her arm. Eyes warm and friendly “You’re here early.”
“I like to see what I’m walking into,” You replied, sipping on your chamomile tea, “Chaos is more polite when you greet it first.”
She gave a low chuckle. “You’ll fit right in alright.”
As you headed towards the lounge, you began to take in the place that you had come to know after hours. The hospital felt quieter during the day, or maybe you were just getting used to the hum of codes, psych holds, the unrelenting stream of mayhem. You were nine weeks into your fellowship, and while that hardly made you a seasoned veteran, the initial fog of disorientation had lifted. You knew which nurses worked nights versus days, which CT techs were the fastest, and which vending machine had the good stuff.
You caught a glimpse of Dr. Robby’s back as you entered the lounge room, and he headed towards Dana. You hadn’t talked since that night after the Pittfest shooting, but he had become a constant thought, threading in and out of your days like a song you hadn’t meant to memorize.
You wondered what his story was. The real one. Not the rumors from the other residents—something about a patient he couldn’t save, about working too many shifts and not enough sleep.
The lingering shadows of that night in the Pedes' room had remained with you for days after. But today you’d be working together again. Officially. Attending and fellow. Supervisor and learner and you were willing to learn.
“Dr. Williams,” Robby greeted you at the nurses’ station, glancing at you through his glasses, before returning to look at the tablet in his hand. “You look awake. What’s your secret?”
You smiled as you leaned over. “Excessive caffeine and existential dread.”
He let out a soft chuckle, the kind that came from deep exhaustion. “Ah, the classics.”
“Good morning, good morning come on over. We have a new face joining us today,” he began, inviting the residents and interns to huddle around both of you.
“This is Dr. Williams, Emergency Medicine fellow fresh from night shift”, Robby continued to introduce you to the team as you smiled and waved at everyone. ”If I’m not available, she is the person you find”, Robby added.
You started walking the floor together, reviewing labs and orders, updating notes on the fly. You noticed the way he read the chart notes like he was trying to solve a puzzle that had a missing piece.
He had a way of listening that made patients lean in a little closer, and a way of speaking that made families breathe easier, even when the words weren’t good. Every patient came with a rhythm: neuro checks, vitals, med orders. Robby didn’t micromanage. He observed. Nudged gently. Asked questions that made you think but didn’t corner you.
He didn’t hover when you took charge of a GSW to the abdomen. Didn’t flinch when you suggested changing the antibiotic order for the open tib-fib. When you slipped on a word explaining a FAST scan to a med student, he seamlessly jumped in—not to correct you, but to reinforce your point.
He had a way of making space for people without shrinking himself. And you couldn’t decide if that made him more or less intriguing to your wandering mind “So Dr. Williams,” he said between cases, “day shift treating you better than night?”
You breathed out a laugh, “I haven’t had anything thrown at me yet,” you said. “Seems promising.”
He grinned—really grinned—for the first time that morning. “Give it time. We haven’t hit the lunch rush.”
Throughout the day, you slipped into your role instinctively—leading the ABCs, calling for chest x-rays, ultrasound probe in hand. Robby stood behind you, watching. You could feel his presence like static electricity on the back of your neck.
“He's hypotensive,” You called out. “FAST is positive—right upper quadrant.”
“Good eye, Dr. Williams,” Robby murmured. Then, louder to the room: “Prep for trauma laparotomy. Notify OR.”
It wasn’t until the patient was off to surgery that you realized your hands were shaking just a little.
Later, after a long stretch of back-to-back trauma codes and one surgical boarding nightmare, you caught a break in Abbot’s spot. You leaned over the rails, looking out, chewing a protein bar like it had personally wronged you.
You heard the emergency door creak open and shut, you looked over your shoulder to find Dr. Robby walking towards you.
“You did well down there, kept your cool,” Robby said once he stood beside you. “Nice work leading that.”
“I was a little worried you’d grab the probe out of my hand,” you admitted, only half-joking.
You left out a long breath.
“Is it always this insane during the day?” you asked, looking down at the ground floor of the hospital.
“More noise. Fewer excuses,” Robby replied.
There was a beat of silence before you added, “Thanks for not micromanaging me earlier.”
“I didn’t need to,” he said with a shrug. “I trust you.”
There were so many things you wanted to say. About how you still dream of the Pittfest victims. About the guilt that creeps in when you laugh too freely or go a day without remembering the patients who coded in your arms. But instead, you just stood there in silence.
You stayed a little after shift change, scribbling down notes, double-checking charts, not quite ready to leave. You finally stood, stretching the stiffness from your spine, when you felt his presence.
“Thanks for today,” you said.
“You didn’t need me much,” he replied. “That’s a good sign.”
“I still want to learn from you.”
Robby looked at you, his gaze suddenly serious but not cold.
“You will. But don’t forget you already bring something to the table. You’re not just here to follow. You’re here to lead.”
Your throat caught, just a little. And you nodded.

what can we expect this upcoming year for TIBs? i hope you have a wonderful new year!
Hey Anon-
Thanks for the ask!
I had some major life changes after the latest update of TIBs, but it’s been on my mind daily!
Although I don’t think January will have much time for writing, I do have every intention of finishing the story at some point and have a very good idea of what I want from each remaining chapter.
Unfortunately, my brain has to be in the right zone! It’s a hard thing to force.
I can’t promise my previous posting schedule from 2023 … *sigh* good times… but I do foresee 2025 being more productive writing-wise.
In summary, I’ll try my BEST!
Thanks again for the kind ask - it’s nice to know someone is still invested ☺️

Nothing to update on Tib
Each day feels like a different kind of pain and getting back into the routine of life after spending a full week dissociating is more excruciating than I could have imagined.
I was about 7 years old when we found my first childhood cat's gruesome remains after leaving for a weekend. Coyotes got him after a life of indoor-outdoor activity so from that point on we vowed to keep our cats indoors. He was only meters from our house
I was less than a month into my freshman year of college when my dad called to say one of the two cats at his house hadn't returned after several days. He'd gotten them only a few months before but the news broke me down while I tried to study. Never saw that cat again
And now Tib. I hate to think about how these old wounds are open again because I didn't want to connect the poor track record of missing cats never returning in my life. It's the primary reason why it's been incredibly hard to keep up hope because I've been here before and with the worst case always being reality.
I've had cats die peacefully of old age in my life but the pain there is different and conclusive. Cats getting out of the house is literally my worst recurring nightmare. And now it's real again.
Not only that but with the most special cat in my life. He is the light of my world and the source of my day to day joys and comfort in my worst ones. I adopted him in the pit of my worst depression and he got me through so much. Everyone who has met Tib has fallen in love with him. I cannot describe how heartbreaking this all is. I would trade nearly anything just to have him back. I could lose my house or have my accounts drained of money, even uproot my life, but even then I know I'd be thankful I still had Tib around.
Each day that passes makes that hope smaller. I fucking hate being this melodramatic but my life really was centered around him. I cannot describe how guilty I feel.

“Maybe,” Bruce agreed. “I prefer waffles over pancakes, though. I wish he could make better ones.” “You tell him,” Don nudged. “No, you,” Bruce said, nudging the turtle back. “I’m not gonna tell Alfred his waffles suck.” “And what, you think I have a death wish?” Don asked.

Writing Update
Some pretty intensive googling happened this weekend on the treatment of partial thickness burns and tib-fib fractures. (My poor blorbos…)
I’ve been obsessively working on my Damage Control series before a tough work week hits tomorrow. Ficlets for 1x11 Scarecrow and 1x12 Faith are done, working on 1x15 The Benders as we speak.
Winchester mild traumatic brain injury counter: Sam - 3; Dean - 3
Pondering whether killing a (fictional!) horse will make me lose half of my readers
Meanwhile, Athos is over here, like “When is rescue??” (Working on it, buddy)
Had a brief hour of writers block after being floored by a Kim Addonizio poem that made me doubt I could ever use words again
Febuwhump is coming and I’m still on prompt #1 *sigh*
How’s your weekend writing going? Need a nudge? Hot cocoa?

the draft of original little red is DONE- it's rough, and the last few chapters are wonky cause I ended it a lil bit earlier than anticipated (just felt very right) BUT... it's done. 106k words which feels like so many fuckin words. I started it in May of 2023 so my goal of getting it written within a year was well met!!
now I'm gonna just.... leave it sit for a while. Come back with fresh eyes and start changing things and making any major edits that feel right. I think by the end of February I'll have the freshest of peepers
and in that time, i'm going to write undertale fanfiction. of course. not that I ever fully stopped doing that alongside little red lol. FIRST STOP: tib and rib. SECOND STOP: updating and hopefully finishing a tale of two bitties THIRD STOP: i don't know. will i stay on the train tracks??? mmmaybe. probably??

File Sync Azure: New Updates Announced by Microsoft
Tumblr media
Companies of all sizes must address growing data volumes and the need for efficient, scalable, and economical file storage solutions. Microsoft Azure Storage understands these demands. This is why it keeps coming up with fresh ideas for Azure Files, its fully managed cloud file sharing service. Azure Files manages hundreds of millions of file shares with billions of files for department and general purpose shares, business-critical application data, and hybrid datasets with seamless cloud tiering.
Microsoft unveiled many creative upgrades to Azure Files and File Sync Azure to simplify file data management. These updates boost speed, cost optimisation, security, administrative convenience, and intelligent support for your company.
What's Azure FileSync?
With File Sync Azure, you can centralise your company's file sharing in Azure Files while keeping Windows file server compatibility, performance, and flexibility. File Sync Azure may transform Windows Server into a quick cache of your Azure file share, even though some clients may wish to keep a complete copy locally. Access your data locally using any Windows Server protocol like SMB, NFS, or FTPS. Worldwide, you may have as many caches as needed.
Provisioned v2 for Azure Files grows and minimises TCO
Cloud storage costs can be difficult to manage for many enterprises. While theoretically simple, hard disc drive (HDD) Azure Files' pay-as-you-go model can make file storage costs challenging to forecast and budget. Although you pay for storage and transactions, unpredictable workloads make it hard to predict transaction volumes. The new v2 pricing mechanism for HDD Azure Files from Microsoft Azure maximises cloud spending.
This provided model replaces usage-based pricing, giving you control and predictability over file storage costs. Grant v2 lets you reserve storage space, IOPS, and throughput based on business needs and pay for them. Because of this, you can confidently shift general-purpose workloads to Azure Files for the optimal price-performance balance.
The HDD provided v2 model's performance restrictions and cost savings have increased compared to the HDD pay-as-you-go technique. With 50,000 IOPS and 5 GiB/sec throughput, the maximum share size is now 256 TiB, double the previous limit of 100 TiB. These boundaries become more critical as your data footprint grows. Provisioned v2 allows your Azure file share to dynamically scale performance based on demand, preventing downtime. Avoiding complex and inconvenient workarounds like sharding lets you maintain a logical and user-friendly file sharing structure for your organisation.
Provisioned v2's per-share granular monitoring lets you optimise storage, IOPS, and throughput by file share. New indications include Transactions by Max IOPS, Bandwidth by Max MiB/sec, File Share Provisioned IOPS, File Share Provisioned Bandwidth MiB/s, and Burst Credits for IOPS provide complete resource utilisation insights for better provisioning control.
Increase workload efficiency via metadata caching
Many organisations use Azure Files SSD for AI/ML on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Moodle, CI/CD pipelines, and virtual desktops. These circumstances often have performance limits from frequent file system metadata operations. Although important, directory listing and file attribute retrieval can affect an application's responsiveness and efficiency if metadata operations are slow.
It cached Azure Files SSD information to address this critical performance requirement. This feature addresses this issue by reducing latency and improving metadata consistency via a caching mechanism. Organisations should expect 55% lower metadata latency and three times higher metadata IOPS and throughput.
Metadata Caching is improving Suncor Energy's GIS usage.
Optimise hybrid clouds using File Sync Azure
Big data upgrades and cloud migrations require efficient data transport and synchronisation. File Sync Azure now syncs 200 items per second thanks to speed improvements. This tenfold improvement over the previous two years supports File Sync Azure's ability to facilitate easy migrations and effective data management, especially for hybrid applications and branch office file consolidation.
This efficiency improvement is especially useful when implementing large file permission modifications or migrating from on-premises file servers. You can manage larger datasets better, transition to File Sync Azure faster, and accelerate cloud modernisation.
File Sync Azure now supports Microsoft's latest server architecture. From Windows Server 2025 to Windows Server 2016, the File Sync Azure extension for Windows Admin Centre supports several server operating systems, allowing enterprises flexibility independent of their server architecture.
Integrating with Windows Admin Centre (WAC) lets you manage all File Sync server configurations from one place. Saves time, simplifies administration, and reduces complexity. This powerful combo lets you utilise Windows Server as a fast cache for your Azure file sharing and cloud tiering for cost-effective and optimal data management.
Copilot in Azure for File Sync Azure gives you an AI-powered assistant to analyse your environment and find the root causes of common issues like network connection, permissions, and missing file shares. Step-by-step instructions and practical solutions are provided by Copilot. It can save storage costs by automating lifetime management rules that tier or destroy data based on access patterns.
Improve workload and data security with Azure Files
File Sync Azure supports Managed Identities (MI), a key security and authentication upgrade. This technology allows Azure File Sync resources to authenticate and communicate with Azure File shares using Entra ID-based authentication without shared keys, boosting security. Managed Identities may increase File Sync Azure deployment security, automate credential management, and meet cloud security best practices.
Vaulting makes Azure Files HDD layer data protection easier. This functionality meets security and compliance standards and protects against ransomware by isolating backups in a Recovery Services vault. Snapshots provide fast recovery, while vaulted backups protect against ransomware and unintentional destruction. Backup data may be stored in economical, safe, and unchangeable storage for 99 years. Cross-region restoration lets you recover from a deleted file share.
Migrate to Azure Files using integrated tools
If you want to effortlessly transfer your Windows Server, Linux, or NAS systems to Azure, you may use easy tools. File Sync Azure and Azure Mover simplify Windows Server migration. Azure Storage migration allows you to utilise industry-leading file transfer tools like Komprise, Data Dynamics, and Atempo to identify, evaluate, and migrate data from NAS systems to Azure for free.
Prepare to revamp File Storage
Azure Files empowers your firm with lower TCO for business-critical tasks, greater scaling and data protection, Managed Identities, robust migration capabilities, and Copilot in Azure. Expect more, as always. Azure Files' goal for the coming year will prioritise security, performance, and management updates to help clients achieve more.
