And so the three fillies set off for the small schoolhouse with great haste. Scootaloo did, anyway, running as fast as her hooves and humming wings could propel her through the dirt and the tall blades of grass.

This was to hide the tears of anger from the bullies, and to hide the hiccupping sobs and tears of shame from Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle.

"Slow down! You're making me look bad!" Diamond shouted from just behind Scoots. Silver Spoon was coughing and heaving as she ran, her strength and stamina not up to the task of sprinting as fast as Scootaloo. Diamond Tiara weathered the dirt getting into her hooves while dragging her companion alongside her. (Had she more breath, she might have proclaimed, "Let it be said I can go through anything and come out unscratched!")

Scootaloo only scowled with shallow lines crossing her face, not letting up as her cut legs propelled her through the next distance and the rational part of her brain muttering revolt at her. By that point Sweetie Belle had awoken from her shock and roused Apple Bloom to get up and go after her friend.

"Scoots!" they yelled while stampeding swiftly towards the troublesome trio. They started to gain on Diamond Tiara, who had just endured the tall, sharp grass, but Scootaloo was wings-down the fastest of anypony there and moved twice as fast as the fractured Crusader duo.

Scootaloo panicked in her thoughts. This isn't good... I can't let them see me like this! I don't want to be a failure! She tried to stifle her tears and choke back the sobs, relegate them to a detail for her adrenaline-junkie physical brain to ignore. This, of course, failed, and she had to slow down for the lack of oxygen in her lungs and the burning coming through her forehead and her wings. The rational part of her brain was banging its metaphorical head on the metaphorical wall through all this.

Apple Bloom continued her thoughts and added in her most desperate screaming voice of appeal, "She's jus' baitin' you! She justs wants ya ta get in trouble!" But Scootaloo knew what she was doing... right? She was proving herself, as a worthy member of society, as a worthy character, and as a pony with some respect.

Isn't that what they're all after? Respect?

Scootaloo pushed back her fear and accelerated with a newfound anger, not to mention coldness, in her heart and in her stomach.

"If you're too prissy to keep up, you're even worse than a chicken! You're just a pig!" Scootaloo shouted behind her back.

Diamond Tiara wouldn't take that. With an audible snap of rage resounding from her ground teeth, she summoned the strength to ignore her shallow cuts and pick up the fairly light Siver Spoon for the rest of the trek. The fragmented Crusaders quickly fell behind her impressive burst of speed.

Scootaloo dashed into the schoolhouse first, with her ambition and success directing her attention only to her left, where stood the doorway to their classroom. Unusually for the school, the door was closed and probably locked, meaning that something confidential was definitely going down. There were definitely the faint voices of two people talking inside, one of them recognizable her teacher.

Scootaloo tippy-toed across to it (careful not to jostle the table on the doorway's left!) and strained her flopping ears to listen in on their chatter through the door. No such luck. The door was too thick. But then where...?

Scootaloo realized with a start that the voices were coming from the vent on the doorway's right. Of course! She pressed her face against it, getting a faint breeze on her skull and the dregs of conversation to whet her appetite.

"....n....c.n.......k....enough.......t.k.......t.....b.s.y.d...t..c.....d.s..."

"No...no!....p....sh.s...m.n..."

Scootaloo was vindicated, and a great confidence unraveled her cheeky grin into a rictus that would have scared her friends. "Calm down, Scoots!" she mentally commanded herself, but she couldn't be calm. She leaned in to focus her attention to the vent, but she really should have been more focused on her friends.

Still, even now, the rational part of her brain that had been whispering through the cacophony wondered, "Where are my friends?"

on the point of including black people in the show (or any period show), a lot of the outrage can sometimes come across as performative to me. it's one thing to feel upset about how little screentime black characters get compared to white characters (a valid criticism, believe me, I Know! give me an hour and i could talk your ear off about how this constantly annoys me as a black person who's damned to enjoy period pieces), but it's another to Only get upset while not actually creating content for said black characters, Especially when fandom (not just hbo war, but in general) is famous for taking Extremely minor characters and creating entire worlds with them, to the point where you wouldn't know they're minor characters at all until you check out the source yourself. richard macon, alexander jefferson, and robert daniels each have only 20 or less posts about them (at the time of publishing this post). in my own fandom experience (within fandoms both big and small and old and new, whatever), i've seen more content (posts, art pieces, analyses, fics, etc) made for minor white characters in less than a mere week's time (it's not a competiton lol i'm just giving a perspective here). so idk. obviously, there's nothing anyone here can do about a show that's already been filmed and released. we got what we got. thas it. at least in the great wide world of fandom, you can actually do something about it, turning the big into small. there's precedent for that. otherwise it just feels like complaining for the sake of complaining

talking to a friend about getting back into art and i think the #1 most important piece of art advice i could ever get or give is just "figure out what is FUN to you"

like i think there is sooooo much emphasis on how to build SKILL in art but a lot of it really treats art like a job or like video game grinding, like it's this thankless job that you have to work at in order to reach a Threshold and i know it's not EASY to make yourself have fun but like

imo a solid 70% of the reason i create art is because the Act of Drawing is fun to me. it's fun problem-solving and planning and putting down lines and playing with colors and tools. it's fun to depict little scenes in my head or to create outfits or to find ways to fill the canvas. never forget that creating can be fun. sometimes it's hard and sometimes you have to battle through your own blockades to get there but the ultimate goal should always be to ENJOY it, to find what you enjoy doing and then do it forever. improvement will follow enjoyment.

i think especially with all the debate about ML image generation it's more important than ever to embrace FUN. if you're only focused on the end result it's so easy to get in your own head- to think about what doesn't look good or what skills you don't have yet or to compare yourself to other artists. but photography didn't kill the art of drawing and AI won't either because, simply put, there will always be people who want to do the physical act of making art because it's fun to do! using paints and markers, splashing colors around, doing shitty pen doodles, using the symmetry tool in your art program to do abstract mandalas that are just squiggles formed into patterns. do art like you're 5 and you've been handed markers to pass the time. do art like you're bored in class and you're keeping your brain entertained by drawing stick figure comics in the margins. do art like an absent thing, do art because it satisfies your brain. the goal is not to make something beautiful and perfect, the goal is to make something because your hands need to make and your body needs to make.

What if I was insane again about the first thing Alpha Grim Sonic hearing when Nine creates him is his purpose—that he is Nine's friend?

Friendship as a concept in Prime is handled interestingly among its main characters. As Sonic (who thinks he knows a lot about friendship) comes to deepen his understanding of what it means to have a home/be home, I think it's safe to say his definition of friendship develops along with it. Compare this to Nine, who's learned everything he knows about "friendship" and personal relationships in general through his relationship with Sonic (at least, after his childhood of bullying).

So of course I think about Nine, who never wants to be hurt again, yet can no longer bear feeling alone (not after feeling that sense of companionship and belonging with someone else), which results in him creating a warped version of friendship for himself (one where he is surrounded by people, but people who only do whatever he wants, who have no opinions and thoughts of their own, who can't backstab him). And so I think about Alpha Grim Sonic, who is the very first robot Nine creates under this idea of frienship and companionship.

Nine is his master, and Alpha Grim Sonic is his protector, his bodyguard, his weapon

But he's also his friend.

Alpha Grim Sonic doesn’t talk back (can't even if he wanted to), but his purpose has always been clear to him: be Nine's friend. That's what he was created to be.

So I imagine Alpha Grim Sonic performing his purpose to the T at first under Nine's framework. He's Nine's friend, so he does whatever Nine commands, he never talks back or challenges authority, he protects Nine at all cost. And then, perhaps unbeknownst to Nine, he begins to shift ever so gradually. Sure, he's never insubordinate, he never offers up opinions, he still can't speak, but the lines of devotion begin to blur.

Is it in his code? Is out of a real sense of feeling?

Alpha Grim Sonic does not understand friendship, no matter whether it believes it does or not. But it's ironic to me if, despite being created under Nine's warped idea of it, the robot slowly grows their own soul, witnesses other displays of frienship and care, and drifts outside the bounds of that idea (a carefully crafted painting begins to leak out of its frame, expanding the masterpiece). They protect Nine, they do only what he commands, and yet they hate to see Nine in pain, they wish to bring Nine comfort (and so it feels good to him when Nine commands him to do such things that might bring his master comfort).

Does this make any sense? To believe that friendship means to hold one person on a pedestal, to protect them, to only listen to them, to never talk back, to never have opinions, and yet, despite believing what your creator tells you of friendship with them (your very purpose in this existence), to slowly fall further into those feelings that true care and love for another person brings, to wish to comfort someone the way one might describe a true friend would, despite not realizing any of this.

where do i even start with this. first of all, i don’t know how to explain to you that insects are a part of the environment…

secondly, the nature of zoophagous familiars is that they will work their way up the food chain. you may only see her eating flies and spiders, but unchecked their eating habits go to birds and cats and sometimes even humans. if she is free roaming as you claim, she’s probably already consumed countless sparrows. KEEP HER INSIDE.

and finally, you mentioned she keeps breaking out of her cell. there could be a few reasons for this. either she’s not getting enough enrichment, or she’s being enthralled and called to her master. if it’s the latter, don’t worry about it <3 but if she keeps breaking out you need to make sure she’s getting the enrichment she needs. are you giving her sugar to lure her flies? a notebook to count the lives she’s consumed? space to ramble about her theories on blood being life?

keep her indoors. if she breaks out to monologue about rats she needs your attention. entertain her. but keep your zoophagous familiars indoors.

(the following post I originally posted as a long rant on discord. this is that but with slight edits to formatting since I think I made a few okay points worth archiving in a format that wasn't in a discord with less than 100 people in it). long post about megaman, x dive, it's offline version, and the reality of the franchise as a whole. doomer post sorry. go play 30XX and Gravity Circuit though and like any platformer Inti Creates (Gunvolt / Copen series and the Blaster Master Zero trilogy are pretty good!)

what an odd game that was. mega man as a gacha game was always an inherently flawed concept, and its gameplay sure showed that. some of the most stale levels in any mega man game. some of the most uninteresting fights, with all of them being recreations of older fights outside the honestly pretty cool final boss. crossover events that were neat but apparently not neat enough to get archived properly, a story that killed any pacing that the levels had when they were going, and again, holy shit those levels were bad

i am not sure whether or not I can confidently say it is the worst mega man game as that probably still is X6 but it sure was the most boring one. the offline version that for some reason is 30 dollars only further helps showcase how terrible the balancing was with how hilariously easy it is even on the challenge mode. it was the purest form of every disease the gacha game genre has at points. every single issue that every bad gacha game had x dive had. and also there is nfts or whatever I still don't know if those are official or not (though judging by them appearing at some cons it sure is a maybe)

like, we were pretty hopeful after 11 then nothing but the legacy collections came out and also looking back 11 was just okay but that is a topic for another day and also when I actually sit down and replay it, and still more legacy collections, and we keep buying them all as hey it is cool to have every mega man game in a series of bundles relatively cheaply on pc and console (besides starforce and legends at this point)

but like, lmao. what now.

the only new mega man game (since 2017, not including collections and odd ball things like the Mega Man X crossover in Minecraft Bedrock) was x dive and now that is dead, and the offline version kinda sucks even though I am glad it exists in the first place. (something something preservation is good and this is mostly the best way it could have gone out, and I hope more gacha games do the same in the future)

it kinda feels like we have looped back to the state the franchise was in back in like early 2010s (just with extra copium and better fangames)

people are like; guys the battle network legacy collection sold well that means there is going to be a battle network 7 right guys right right. and like yeah, I guess. it did, right. but man mega man will always be the 5th or 6th best selling franchise for capcom

capcom publishes devil may cry. capcom makes/publishes street fighter. capcom makes/publishes resident evil. capcom makes/publishes monster hunter.

battle network is the only good selling sub-franchise within megaman (best overall series for megaman), outside of, and this is true, mega man 2 (yeah). even still, it is not resident evil, monster hunter, or even ace attorney though it has been a while since I have seen the numbers there

so tl;dr of this doomer posting is that mega man as a franchise is like kinda dead and outside of potential extra legacy collection for spinoff games (&bass + wonderswan sequel, soccer, rockboard, battle and chase, etc), starforce collection, and legends collection (lmao collection for 3 games?) like that's it huh

the last actual proper mega man game was 11, which was back in 2018. besides that we have just gotten the collections and x dive, and that latter is now dead. it's pretty joever
