Someday, I will recover from how quickly some people flipped like a switch on whether ertain parts of me were Amazing and Awesome once I crossed over a certain line of butchness. Like, at a particular point - whether it was when my voice dropped a certain amount or my chin got stubbly- my anger and my stubbornness and my iron-spine 'no, you can't steamroll me' changed in their eyes. These personality traits went from being the Feisty, Admirable, and Attractive behavior of a Spunky Feminist Lady to the horrible actions of a Thing that just embarrasses them.

I could even have dealt with it if I just got a pass for standing up for myself or being angry at the state of the world - if I'd passed into these people's man-gendered behavioral class, you know? Men are supposed to not let people roll over them; they're allowed to be angry. But I didn't get that, either. My anger was suddenly real enough to be upsetting and frightening, but not legitimate enough to be respected. I occupied a Thing space, a sudden nothing in between, where the same person I'd always been went from being admirable and desirable to actively repulsive.

It's also a hell of a way to find out that people didn't take your anger very seriously before - all of a sudden your anger is real enough to scare people means your anger before wasn't... really real.

Someday, I'll get over that realization. Not today, though.

Jason takes a deep breath. He takes a deep breath, in for ten seconds, out for eight, and just takes a minute before looking again. Nope, there’s still the strange quartet of orbs in the box of what should be stolen weapons (What, the government had enough, honestly) that gave his workers the heebie-jeebies. 

Which is not the vibe he gets from them. In fact, he’s actually kind of concerned with how much he has to beat the Pit back with how quickly it lurches to latch onto the… Well they’re not gems, and he’s a little wary about touching them at first, but the Pit does seem to settle when he does.

Alright, he can deal with this. It’s not like he has several heads in a duffel bag that needs to be delivered or a tiny assassin child back in his safehouse (Seriously Talia, why was he the preferred babysitter?) or an entire gang in Crime Alley to deal with. It’ll be fine. 

…

He would like to curse out his past self, because there’s now four babies in his safehouse that appeared to have fucking hatched from the orbs. Goddamnit.

present shen qingqiu as a monster, a lecher, a horrible, evil man, and slowly unspool the threads of his history. the readers learn of what, exactly, made him the way he is, and what his crimes are. which are true, which are not. his intentions, his failures, his hopes, how they got crushed, how he’d been misunderstood. from an incomprehensible vile man to a pitiful, cruel one.

after being thrown into hell and clawing his way back out, luo binghe is taken in by a proper, protective shizun, who treats him with the respect he deserves. who wants him under his wing, who is proud to be his shizun, who wants to become his family, via marriage with his daughter. then, he is discovered to be exactly what luo binghe thought his former shizun to have been, perhaps worse, and to have been the very reason luo binghe never had his biological parents in his life and all that resulted from that.

when exactly does luo binghe see the palace master’s true colours? after shen qingqiu dies at his hands? before? does it make him see shen qingqiu as he is, if he’s yet to get his revenge, and does it make it worthless, to kill him? does it drive him further towards insanity? does it leave him hopeless, jaded, despondent? with no one to trust, with nothing to hang his hopes on, no one to comfort him, what, exactly, does he do?
