I wrestled with these for a week BUT, a bunch of lore for Arctic Zora. Can you tell I've been super into speculative biology lately

Arctic Zora (or 'Titans' as they're more commonly known) are a clan of Zora which separated from their mainland ancestors a very long time ago, heading north towards the polar caps. They exist beyond the Hyrule continent and are divided from their inland cousins via a huge sea, but you can find them on travels around the region. They earned the term 'Titan' due to their much larger and far more robust size in comparison to the Zora of Hyrule, and often stick to the colder climates where they are more comfortable and less likely to suffer heatstroke.

These are just a small portion of notes I have on them, and I'd like to do more lore pages in this style!

New Renaissance: Gerudo & Zora

The NeoGerudo/NomadicGerudo are made up predominantly of the younger Gerudo generation, and live either in the extended Gerudo Town (AKA the deserts center of entertainment) or travel in "spiritual" communes as nomads.

Extended Greudo Town lies primarily on the outside of the original towns walls - which allows for a technical loophole in the "no voe" law. These Gerudo are highly self-indulgent, and have pioneered Hyrules motion-picture industry with the use of projector technology. Additionally, many have openly embraced a less "traditional" identity in gender & orientation. (although, still no male-identifying Gerudo...that we know of).

Nomadic Gerudo share art, information, services, and trade materials to travelers in the desert or Greater Hyrule.

The Pirate Zora are Zora who have settled in the eastern coast and seas of Hyrule.

The "capital" of this sub-group is known as Covencove, located on the coast on the northeast of Hyrule. The architecture is built with wood and rustic metal, which still somewhat retains aesthetics from Zora's Domain.

Pirate Zora have mainly advanced musical arts...as well as weaponary, in the form of "shots" (AKA water pistols; a new weapon type). They also have a pleasent love of brawling against oppenents in ocean arenas.

In a side adventure, Link can help the two groups in a business arrangement, where they collaborate on a motion picture. This film would profit an ungodly sum of rupees, and lead them to a 10-year contract.

My second submission for Haunting Heroes' Guess That Artist game. This is my "if DPxDC were BotW while not, in fact, being a zelda game, exactly".

World building details beneath the cut

Details are in bullet points because I'm still working on various details

Maddie and Jack are Ancient Sheikah tech researchers (more like Jerrin than Purah or Robbie; they aren't Sheikah themselves, but Vlad is)

The shrines are portals/rifts to the Spirit Realm; every region has a few but they went inactive a while back (but recently became active again while still locked)

They became inactive because a demon king is sealed in the Spirit Realm; supposedly, heroes guarding the rifts disappeared to close the portal form the other side, locking themselves in the Spirit Realm with no way back

How to open the portals is a closely guarded secret and no one knows how to do it anymore exactly, but they know it involves ceremonial garments

Danny figures out how to open the one his parents are researching by accident and stumbles into the Spirit Realm

The general plot revolves around going back and forth between the Mortal Realm and the Spirit Realm, finding heroes of yore and the heroes who stepped up to replace them and figuring out how to stop the demon king from returning

Demon King is Pariah, BTW, and the ones trying to revive him are the League of Assassins

Gotham is a city in the Spirit Realm

This is gonna be a demon twins au

The Fentons live close to the Lost Woods/kokiri forest; they found Danny sitting on the shrine just outside the woods because "he was too old to stay with the kokiri anymore". They said "it's free baby" and took him in. He doesn't remember much from that time

Only someone born in the spirit realm can open the rifts. Danny finds out the fun way that he was born there (mid game boss fight ig)

Part of the game play revolves around catching ghosts and returning them to the Spirit Realm...but you can also release them during fights or puzzle solving or adventuring to produce certain effects

Basically, you work with the teen titans/young justice/etc in the Mortal realm and you work with the justice league in the spirit realm, but you also have to catch ghosts, and most importantly of all, collect outfits

Idk what the conclusion is but I'll probably write this someday

This au is inspired by botw, totk, oot, tp, mm, and other Zelda stories, but it's really a LoZ flavored story and not a LoZ crossover, so I'm not sure there's going to be a Zelda or a Link or a Ganon

I'll add more to this someday but I'll call the au Heroes of the Realm au if you want to find the tag later

It had all escalated so quickly.

One moment, they were riding comfortably side by side, enjoying the coolness of the night paired with the starry sky, the next moment they were surrounded by lynels.

Link didn’t even know that they hunted in… packs.

Whenever he had encountered them before, he had fought single individuals. Red-maned, blue-maned… never against one in a colour like this one, whose attacks he desperately tried to deflect with his master sword.

When Link had visited Zora’s Domain as a final preparation for his fight against the Calamity, Sidon had proposed to follow Link to Rito Village - opening up new trade options with the whole of Hyrule was the next big step to nurture Zora’s Domain back to its former glory. Link – stupidly infatuated that he was with the Zoran prince – had not been able to deny the proposition as he himself had to seek out Harth for his help to repair the Great Eagle Bow. A weapon, he was sure he needed during his final fight.

The road so far had been long, but the Titans were finally tamed.

The fights had been vicious, but Link had been able to come out victorious through each and every single one.

With the Titan’s reconquest, more and more villages and cities were able to send out troops aiding the fight and eliminating anything that lay between them and peace. While defeating Ganon was only a task the Hero himself could take over, the troops of the different races did whatever was in their might to aid.

It was a shift that had decimated the numbers of the different monster species’s successfully, but with this decimation also came the monsters’s desperation.

Yes, the attacks had lessened, but their severity had increased.

And now Link and Sidon were confronted with not only one, but three lynels at once.

Another blow hit Link’s sword. The hero slipped and almost lost his footing; the ground underneath him slippery with the blood of one of their horses.

His mare- he couldn’t think about her fate now.

Another clash.

His leg muscles quivered under the strain of keeping the body upright under the force of the attack.

Behind himself he could hear the scream of a dying creature; momentarily distracted Link looked to the side and saw one of the two silver lynels collapse to the floor – a grave mistake.

A sharp blade hit him in the shoulder and incapacitated his left arm – reigning his shield arm useless. The heavy metal of the Hylian shield hit the floor, followed by the spilling of his own life essence.

One step forward, two steps back – everything around him became blurry and unfocused.

 A golden shadow moved towards him – the golden lynel - how had he never seen one of this colour before? – and Link clenched his teeth together, awaiting the fatal blow.

A red silhouette moved with a speed between Link and the lynel that even the Hero would have found difficult to replicate; being thrown back onto the spoiled grass in the process.

In a daze, Link watched the spectacle in front of him.

Sidon’s teeth were bared; his usually friendly and kind demeanour had changed into the caricature of an animalistic creature.

Watching Sidon take on the beast was like watching two ancient giants fight – awe-inspiring and terrifying at the same time.

The battle in front of him had no similarities left of the fighting tactics he had learned as a knight and used ever since – it was brute strength against brute strength.

Movement behind him distracted him from the spectacle in front of him – it was one of the collapsed silver lynels. Its side was bleeding heavily – Link guessed that Sidon had pierced one of the beast’s two hearts.

Pushing past the dizziness that overcame him, Link sprang up to his feet and buried his sword with a forceful thrust inside the creature’s torso. The lynel’s sharp claws wrapped around Link’s hand gripping the sword’s hilt, leaving painful claw marks in his skin.

Until-

It collapsed to the ground with nothing more but a dying grunt.

Silence filled the space and after a while, and Link dared to look back and check on Sidon.

The prince was on his knees, clutching his side, the white patterns on his scales darkening with his own blood.

The monster lay motionless in front of the Zora, parts of its torso missing, its bared ribs glistening like a gory piece of art.

Link stood up on unsteady legs and went over to Sidon, gently pulling away the prince’s hand and examining the wound. The Zora’s blood was hot underneath his hand - a stark contrast to the chilly wind blowing around them.

The wound was deep but non-lethal. Link couldn’t believe that they made it out alive.

Slowly, Link’s muscles relaxed. The worst was over.

Link let the relief of victory run through his body until-

Suddenly, Sidon grabbed Link’s arm and held him in a painful clutch.

Before Link was able to ask, Sidon gestured towards the sky behind him, clear fear visible even in the dark.

A sick and heavy feeling spread in Link’s pit of the stomach.

Already knowing what he would see, he turned.

The first rays of crimson light started to paint the surface into a nightmarish image. And with the arrival of the moon, the lynels corpses began to change.

Link knew that they only had fractions of moments to react.

“We need to go – NOW!”

His voice, rarely used, was raspier and more silent than he had intended, but the urgency still came through.

Together, they ran away from the battle scene and towards a cliff.

They looked down the ravine and Link’s heart dropped to his stomach.

He had lost his paraglider in the midst of battle, and while there was a river running underneath, jumping would mean his sure death.

Collecting all his courage, the Hylian made a decision.

He couldn’t let another loved person die. He wouldn’t.

Readying the master sword, he never let go off inside his hand, Link turned to Sidon with a determined gaze.

“Go. I will fend them off and give you some time. I have the protection of the former champions – you don’t.”

Sidon looked at him, unbelieving.

“I am not going to leave you here!”

Link gritted his teeth in stress and frustration.

“There is no other way, we won’t make it otherwise!”

Even with the champion’s protection, Link wasn’t sure he would make it. He didn’t voice the concern.

Sidon gripped the hero’s arm once more. While it was less forceful, it didn’t lose its intensity.

“We will jump.”

“I won’t be able to-“

Sidon silenced Link by placing his free hand on Link’s cheek. It was so big compared to Link’s fine features.

“I know. I will take the impact; my body can handle it.” Sidon’s facial expression became more serious than he had ever seen it before.

Before Link could protest, Sidon asked a question that rendered him silent.

“Do you trust me?”

Link stared into the golden irises in front of him. His throat felt tight with all the anxiety he felt, but –

He nodded.

The lynels started rising once more and after sheathing his sword, he closed his eyes, surrendering to Sidon’s ministrations.

The enraged roar was the last thing he heard before Sidon wrapped his arms around the smaller body and jumped over the edge.

Do you think you’ll change and/or add any lore for your arctic titans now that TOTK has revealed stuff?

I'm not sure how much I'll need to change, most of it has already been updated with TOTK in mind since it's what drew me back into doing Zora stuff! The dragons might need an explanation because I don't know if their trio in particular are a result of dragonification, or if they're just divine energies that splintered off from Naydra and manifested into a similar form. And considering we don't know how far Zonai civilisations stretched out across whatever realm Hyrule exists in, I can't say for certain if they even settled in the Arctic region (though, the idea of bigger, even fluffier Zonai more adept to live in the frigid cold is fun to think about).

There's a lot of lore and retcons I don't particularly like about the TOTK storyline, but when I develop stuff for the Arctic titans I usually think of both games meshed together (with AoC also filling in some gaps, esp info about how the calamity wars went down).

One thing I am for sure adding because of TOTK is that Arctic Zora have varying affinities for using ice magic. It was never confirmed in botw if the Zora had water magic, so I was never certain if it was an actual thing, but it's clearly displayed by Sidon in TOTK. The Arctic Royals especially have powerful ice magic abilities, and when not using it as an offensive tactic, they incorporate it into things like their architecture, weapons and body armor!

Rise of the Titans - Shot (new weapon)

Invented in the Zora's pirate region and gifted to link by lady Yona, introducing - the Shot.

Shots are unique in that in technically you only get ONE. However, this one shot does not breakbon its own, and link is able to customize the weapons stats and components with compatible resources.

These attachments will break over time or if you wish to attach something different, which can be very expensive.

Oh my…I’m super flattered and honestly a little amazed that I got questions for myself (I figured it would be mostly characters with maybe an ask thrown in here and there for my OC’s). So I’m really happy about that but at the same time, god, did you pick the two hardest questions for me ahaha! Like, these are super, duper tough for me to answer! I’ma try my best though!!

Your two top fave fictional characters?

Impossible to answer. Simply impossible. There are so many really great, nuanced, interesting characters out there in so many different forms of media. There are so many characters I really love and have developed deep bonds with over the years and to pick just two is impossible. It’s also really hard because, as I’ve admitted before, my favourites are always constantly changing. Even for just my fandoms on here, my favourite characters are constantly shifting and changing for the most part. Outside of the fandoms I write for on here, Watson from Sherlock Holmes, Ron Weasley from Harry Potter, Leo from the Heroes of Olympus series, and Frank from Hold Me Closer, Necromancer are some of my favourite literary characters. For video games, it’s Link and Princess Peach all the way for me, because I was raised on a babysitter’s Nintendo and first loves die hard. To try to give a better answer, I’ll also give my current favourite two characters from each of my fandoms, but remember that in like, two months, these will likely have changed:

Fave book?

I have a lot of books that I dearly love. Much like with characters, it’s really impossible to just choose one. The list of them all that I think are fantastic would fill whole pages. I read a lot of different genres though, surprising because it’s a large part of what I write, pure romance remains the only thing I don’t enjoy reading at all. Mostly because I find them either very formulaic with cliched characters or I find the romances they portray to be vaguely (or in some cases, not so vaguely) toxic. There are a few exceptions to that rule as there are a few romances that I did enjoy, but largely because of other factors within the story. There’s a Harlequin series, of all things, underneath their paranormal romance series, called the Bloodrunners and I enjoyed those. I also enjoyed Dante and Aristotle Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I read a lot of biographies (mostly recently read Britney Spears biography), adore cozy mysteries (currently reading the Murder, She Wrote novel series) and not so cozy mysteries (excited to start the second book in the John Ceepak mysteries). I also read a lot of urban fantasy (big fan of the fantastical noir tropes, with Who Censored Roger Rabbit being a fantastic example and I do enjoy the Dresden Files). Horror though? That’s my jam. I’ve been a huge Stephen King fan since I was around eleven and I really love Grady Hendrix. I also am not someone who feels I need to keep myself to reading only adult novels. I love kids books. I recently revisited and read all the classic Goosebumps books for a wave of nostalgia and despite being written for kids, I love the Percy Jackson series and own a lot of both the Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys novels. Of course, the classics are always worth reading. I reread Alice in Wonderland and The Little Prince quite often, along with the Anne of Green Gables novels, Little Women/Little Men, and Frankenstein quite often. Basically, I just really love books and always appreciate any good recommendations for new ones.

I'm having rambly thoughts about Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and it's too long for a tweet so I guess this is where I put it.

A lot of people criticized the game's open world structure as not being "really" open world because while you technically could go anywhere, you'd get your ass handed to you if you went too out of order too early.

This is not an issue in open world game design, in my opinion. It's... fine, I guess, if an open world game provides a world that scales with you, but my personal preference is a "You can go this way, and you can also die" approach. There are two glaring issues with the way Pokemon handles this before I even get into the 3 story routes.

The first issue is that, in order for this sort of design to work, you need to have leveled zones. Encounters in areas such as main roads should generally be easier to handle. The further you fuck off into the wilderness, the more difficult the encounters become.

Using Breath of the Wild as an example, because Zelda fucking knocked open world as a format out of the park on the first try, the area forming the perimeter of Hyrule Field is where you encounter the easiest enemies. Not much more than Bokoblins and Chuchus if you stick to that route. This is also the area you'll find yourself in immediately upon leaving the Great Plateau. Now, if you head too far toward the center of Hyrule Field, you get Guardians. Too far north, also Guardians. But in every other direction you can take, the variety and difficulty of enemies gently scales up, introducing enemies like Moblins and Lizalfos gradually, while at the same time introducing environments that try to murder you. If you head East toward Kakariko Village as the game gently pushes you to do, you will reach a region that does not try to murder you, have time to gear up to tackle the regions that do, and still get that gentle difficulty scaling. And, as long as you stick to the main roads, you're not facing anything more difficult than a Moblin until you delve deep into Lanayru on your way to Zora's Domain.

Pokemon, on the other hand, decides simply that the further north you go, the further fucked you are. This WOULD be fine... if it weren't for the story routes.

The second issue is that... the map's too small. This appears largely due to massive development mistakes where they just decide to render unseen portions of the map for whatever reason. Compare it to Breath of the Wild, a game initially designed and released on the PREVIOUS console, and it's painful how small the Pokemon map is. Whatever the reason, this forces areas that would have otherwise been perfect "This area will be a bit tougher than you're used to, but you gotta cross it" spots far closer to the school than they had to be. The rocky area right outside the east gate comes to mind.

And then there's the way the map interacts with the story routes. Sure you CAN tackle things in any order... but the gyms don't scale. This, I feel, is a mistake. Since the Pokemon League is an organization, and its been shown in other Pokemon media like the manga that gym leaders can pull out different teams depending on how many badges the challenger already has.

And because gyms don't scale, and because the further north you go the further fucked you are, and because the map is a donut with a forbidden zone in the center, you are forced into an awkward zigzag pattern when taking on the story that forces you to fast travel after every few major fights if you don't want to be completely outclassed too quickly.

So if Pokemon wanted to be open world, I don't think the world necessarily had to scale, but I do think that gym leaders should've scaled, each titan should've been roughly the same level as each other, and Team Star would be fine as is, which would additionally make each story path feel a bit more distinct. Victory Road would always be appropriate for where you were, each titan would be roughly on par with one another, and Team Star would do whatever they could to get in your way no matter what because they're Team Star.

BUT ALSO?

Pokemon never needed to be open world. Pokemon never should've been open world, open world is a fun thing when done correctly, but you also need the property to accommodate open world! For Pokemon, this would require restructuring what were previously the game's core mechanics from the ground up, like they did with Breath of the Wild being a HUGE departure from Zelda games before it, or like they did with... Pokemon Legends Arceus. Pokemon keeps wanting to reinvent their formula, but they need to give up the existing formula if they're gonna reinvent it. You could make a Pokemon game that is open world, but just like Breath of the Wild, you'd need to just throw everything out the window and keep only the essence of Pokemon.

And they'll never do that, because The Pokemon Company are cowards, and they do not let those games cook long enough.

i swear this game isn't prepared to the amount of bullshit i'm able to pull (totk spoilers ahead).

so after getting the sage of spirit by pure chance (i had only completed the rito quest), i'm told that zelda sacrificed herself and became a dragon (like i thought) to power the master sword. ok. and that she said that to get the sword i should visit the lost woods. ok, i already kinda knew that. the sword was in the lost woods in botw and it's kinda a lore thing that it's usually there so... not surprising (hell there's even a master sword glyph next to the forest it couldn't be more obvious). so i'm like. "fine, the sword is in the woods. but i'm not gonna get it until i finish at least one more main quest". because i didn't want to be too overpowered so soon. so i let it be and went to the zoras.

so i did a bit of the zora's quest today (i'm very slow because i have no attention span and i'm not sorry) but it was getting kinda late and there was no chance i could complete it today. so because i had so little time and i didn't want to progress much to not leave it in an interesting moment i decided to do something else. and then i look at the sky while thinking what to do meanwhile and... i see the light dragon. flyind directly to a sky island tall enough to reach her and shoot her. and i needed one more scale from her to upgrade my armour.

so i teleport to the island (the zonanite refinery one) and wait patiently. when she's close enough i fly to her, shoot, and catch a scale in the middle of the flight. i was about to fly to the nearest fairy fountain to fix my armour when i think how difficult is to get to her (you have to spot her, get to the tallest island nearby and hope she flies close enough to reach her) and since this island is pretty good to get loot i decide to teleport again and try for more loot in case the next upgrade asks for claws, horns, etc. so i do it, get to the tallest point, fly towards her and start shooting, but i either miss or i'm not able to loot more parts and i'm about to plunge to my death... when my stamina refills. i discover that your stamina gets filled if you're close enough. because she's actually my girlfriend and won't let me fall.

so then i wonder... if she's fairly secure to stand so closely (the other dragons are not as harmless), would she hurt me if i tried stand on her? in botw i tried to stand on one of the dragons and the result was... comically painful. so this was a bad idea. but i'm not a woman of reason, i'm a woman of science, so i let myself fall carefully in her back... and nothing happens. i'm unharmed. i' lose it instantly. 'm extasic. suddenly, my brain is overriden by the thought of and i cite textually "do the titanic in the dragon's head". chasing a dream i didn't know i had until now, i reach for her head and i stand there enjoying the view of the whole map of hyrule feeling proud of the acomplishment of riding the fucking dragon i've been chasing for so long and
