demanding a series in the same vein (heh, vein) as Dexter/Hannibal wherein a prolific serial killer plays cat & mouse with the police--except the serial killer in question is a preteen schoolgirl. this would make for compelling television due to the fact that middle school frequently causes girls to become deranged, and more media should reflect this

Okay but I need to know more about Steve going missing and Eddie filing a police report??
About three months after they moved out of Hawkins and settled into their Chicago apartment, Eddie came home from a local gig to find his boyfriend not there. The front door was unlocked, which in itself wasn’t extremely unusual because they were both bad at remembering to lock it.
Steve’s favorite sneakers are by the front door. His coat is still draped over the back of the couch. He has a class at 8AM. He should be here. He should, and he’s not.
This immediately sets Eddie off because Steve has a habit of wandering off after he’s had a seizure. When he’s still in a foggy post-ictal phase, sometimes he’ll just get up and leave before his mind has come back online. Which is always not great, but they aren’t in Hawkins anymore.
Chicago is a busy city with cars that he could walk in front of and subway tracks that he could fall on, and Eddie is – Eddie is going to have a panic attack so he does the best thing he can think to do. He calls Nancy Wheeler.
She tells him to call the police so he does that too.
The police are, as usual, not very helpful. Eddie feels like he’s trudging through the verbal equivalent of jello as he explains that Steve is epileptic, that he’s probably confused, that he’s done this before and not just out with a girl over and over again to the dispatcher on the phone and then to the officers that finally show up to take a statement. No one is listening.
They kind of brush him off because Eddie has tattoos and long hair, and he smells like beer because he spent the last three hours in a bar playing guitar. They’re also two guys living in a one bedroom apartment and it doesn’t matter that Eddie is technically famous. There are accusations thrown around and Eddie gets lippy because he’s stressed the fuck out. Honestly, Nancy and Robin showing up when they do probably save him a night in a jail cell.
It still takes Eddie filing a missing persons report and a favor called in from Hopper before they even start to actually look.
Eddie is up all night. Nancy insists that her and Robin will go look for him, but that someone has to stay home in case he comes back. So, it’s just Eddie there when the phone rings a little after 5AM. It’s not Nancy, or Robin, or the police, or Steve.
It’s a waitress at café across from a park.
She tells him that she saw a confused young man barefoot and she got this number from him. Eddie’s never left his house faster than he did after hanging up the phone. It’s probably the fastest he’s ever gotten anywhere in his life.
Steve is fine. He’s cold and achy, and he’s tired, but he’s fine. He doesn’t remember what happened, but he thinks that he fell asleep at the park which to him is more embarrassing than anything else. Eddie kind of has to laugh about that and they both agree that there are some kinks in the system that they need to work out.

This post is talking about a man who identifies as a man pretending he identifies as a woman in order to access female spaces. I’m pretty sure anyone can look at this and realize that “predatory men should be allowed to prey on women as long as they go through X amount of trouble first” is a terrible take. Now, I could further critique this by talking about the men who have done insane things in order to prey on women, or self-id laws meaning that none of those things are necessary to get access to female spaces, but that’s not what stuck out to me when I first read this post.
What stuck out to me is the list of things this hypothetical man is doing in order to access the female spaces. The point of this list is to make it seem ridiculous that any man would do all of those things, go through all the difficulty, in order to prey on women. She describes it as “improbable” in the notes. She says it’s “a lot of work”- so much work in fact, that any man who does those things earns the right to be a predator.
But what stuck out to me is that with the exception of hormones and maybe going by a new name, all of the things on that list that are apparently *so* extreme and *so* over the top that not even a predatory man would do them even if it meant unquestioned access to those he preys on, are things women are expected to do just to exist.
Having breasts (of the “correct” size and shape), having long hair (or a long haired wig if you have a condition preventing long hair), shaving your body, wearing “women’s” clothing, wearing makeup, even changing your name if we’re discussing marriage- all of that is the bare minimum of what is expected of women to exist in public. Ask any woman who does not fulfill all of these requirements, or even just a couple. They’ve all been harassed, shamed, told they’re not good enough, shown they’re not good enough through media, etc.
So all of these things that women *must* do in order to receive basic acceptance, are *so extraordinary* when a man does them that he gets to be a predator as a prize. Why is it that we can easily see how ridiculous these expectations are, how extreme and degrading they are, how illogical and unnatural the expectations of femininity are, when they’re applied to a hypothetical male sex predator? How is it that when it comes to a woman, these things are “empowering”, they’re “choices women make for themselves”, they’re “no big deal”, but at the same time no man would ever do those things voluntarily, even predatory men for sexual gratification?
It doesn’t make sense. It can’t be both ways.

You don't need to be a victim of anything or have some kind of trauma in order to be proship. You can just, you know, ship the most fucked up characters out there for fun.

Other people have discussed this more eloquently, but the thing people don't always seem to get about "passing" (think "cis passing" or "straight passing", for instance) is that the concept of "passing" relies on more than just appearance.
Take me for instance, where I do pass as a man, but I have never (and will never) pass as a cishet man. People know I am queer, even if they don't see that I am a trans queer man. Passing is more than wearing certain things or saying certain things. My mannerisms are queer, my speech is queer, my inflection is queer, my stance is queer. People pick up on that. There's nothing wrong with me being seen as queer, but I'm still treated like a queer man, for better and worse. It seems that people forget that, you know?
My point is that passing is very conplex, nuanced, and individual. I use myself as an example, but that by no means indicates that I have a standard experience. I've noticed, however, that many people have over-generalized these conversations, and I think that doesn't do us - as a community - a service.

Its so funny that Makoto gets such an awful rep (usually bc of her treatment of Futaba), but going through the game again, Makoto is the one who leads the conversation into getting her to open up for the palace door. She immediately offers up the idea of just being honest with Futaba; no lies or soft words, just straight facts in a calm voice. She knew Futaba wanted the change of heart, badly enough that shed listen without having to be convinced by force. And when Futaba panics about having to open up, Makoto makes sure she has no chance of backing out (‘give me time to open the door’ ‘ten seconds’ ‘WHAT???!’). Its for her own good!!
I think it can come across as mean and overbearing and even insensitive, especially if you are someone who is sees themself IN Futaba, but Makoto is both incredibly caring, sisterly, and understanding during the entirety of her arc. Like most characters, fandom seems to completely warp and exaggerate very specific moments and traits and sum up entire personalities bc of it. Ryuji and him being stupid; Ann and her being loud and mean; Yusuke being dumb as shit and singleminded for NO discernible reason, etc etc. People took the snooping and her one vaguely insensitive comment (about futaba and her whole Thing) and decided that she was a cunt and a bitch that couldnt be reasoned with.
Its so bizarre. Im aware that every piece of media w vaguely assertive girls has this issue (Sakura, Katara, Aqua, etc etc) but its still crazy that this is prevalent. Shes like the direct mirror of Goro and he does not get this specific kind of hate (usually its ‘he backstabbed and blackmailed us so i hate him’). Sorry. I need to be a Makoto Apologist to protect her from the rest of the world. My girl did nothing wrong shes just weird. She thought she could fight a mafia boss and she was RIGHT! She WON!!!!
