This Thanksgiving, and for the last month, all I’ve been able to think about are the transgender woman who were stuck in these nazi concentration camps. Who had to watch others be liberated by the allied forces while they were rounded up and sent to prison. They committed no crimes, hurt no one, they just tried to live their most honest life. It’s not easy being LGBTQ+ today. We have challenges and trials that we should never have to face. But the trials we have today are made better because of the change brought on by those before us. I think about these women and the torch they carried, if only through their story, and the work that was done because of what they had to endure. My life has been made better because of them and I hope 20 years from now the LGBTQ+ community will be in a better place because of the struggles we’ve had to endure and the work we’re doing. I’m grateful for these women and men. I’m grateful to be involved in the fight for equality. I’m grateful for the struggles I’ve been through and how they’ve shaped who I am. I’m grateful to carry this torch and I hope when my time comes I can pass it knowing I gave it my all. I hope to have a fraction of the courage these women had and I’m grateful to all those involved in this fight. Nobody gets to dictate your gender identity to you. That includes members of the trans community as well. . Certain factions of this community - trans women themselves - will repeatedly insist trans women are "male bodied" and "biological males". They will insist on using outdated terms like "MtF" to refer to the community, and if you push back they will tell you that you're wrong. . Whether you are transgender yourself or not, this is a form of transphobia. . It's also a losing battle. . You can refer to yourself as a biological male as much as you want, but that's not going to endear you to conservatives. They're still going to hate you babe regardless. . But also, what do you think your constant misgendering of yourself is doing to your psyche? How do you think viewing trans women as "biological males" will colour your ability to be an ally to your community? . I am a biological woman with a woman's body.
