I've been gone for a couple of weeks, but I wanted to share this as more of a life tip then the normal quilting tips. A tip that more or less boils down to: you got to put in the work, and it is okay to acknowledge both where you are now and the journey to come.

Story is a little long, but I have a point I promise.

Roughly 9 months ago I agreed to run a marathon with my husband, his two brothers, and my father-in-law. Now I was NOT a runner when I started. I was actually rather out of shape and chubby. Now my amazing FIL who knew what he was doing gave my husband and I a training regimen that started with a couch to 5k (3.1 miles) training plan and then built on that foundation for the marathon training.

Day 1 was 1 minute jogging followed by 1.5 minutes walking for a total of 20 minutes. So I jogged for 8 minutes total on day 1. Now I wasn't so out of shape that I couldn't do that, but it wasn't exactly a breeze either. "How am I ever going to run a marathon (26.2 miles)?" I wanted to quit before I'd ever really begun, but pride, spite, and the fact that I would have to pay my FIL $80 if I failed fueled me to keep to find the answer, which was (unfortunately) keep running.

I progressed from 1-minute jogs to 20-minute jogs, 20-minute jogs to 3 mile jogs, to 5, 8, 16, 20 mile jogs! Finally, I jogged/walked 26.2 miles for 6 hours and 10 minutes to cross that finish line.

Y'all there were so many days that I woke up and thought "I hate running. I don't want to do this. This is stupid." I still showed up, though. I put in the work, and I finished! Was every run fantastic? No! I had some truly terrible training days, but I kept running. When I began 3 miles seemed like a Herculean task. Now? I nearly signed up for a 5k on a whim, because why not?

To bring this back to quilting, I've only been hand quilting for a couple of months. I keep getting frustrated and I catch myself thinking that I'll never have even stitches, I'll never master the rotary cutter, I'll never finish a big project, etc... And I have to forcefully remind myself that I'm at 1 minute. I'm on those short runs that are slowly building up my skills to go further. Just as 9 months ago I couldn't have run a marathon, I can't expect to suddenly just be awesome at sewing. And that's OK!!! Y'all I can do it, because I spent 9 months running which I don't even enjoy. I did that training; I've put in the work. So for all of you that struggle at being not great at something and feeling like you should quit immediately because "I'm clearly just talentless at this" your just at 1 minute. You just gotta put in the reps.

This internship is inspired by a real program, specifically the NY Office of the Mayor Internship Program and as the The Sims 3 features a "Leader of the Free World" as the final level of the Political career, I named this internship the Office of the Leader Internship.

I initially considered including logic as one of the metrics but decided to remove it. The Political career in the game relies solely on charisma as its primary skill and mostly depends on funding for promotions. It didn’t make sense to include logic, as it isn’t used in the long run for this career path. The work days for this internship are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays. If you have the Seasons expansion pack then it will only be two days due to Thursday is considered as a holiday and Drama Club meetings are on Tuesday and Friday if you have the Generations expansion pack (which is useful if you want your teens to increase their charisma faster). 📣 Upon reaching level three in their internship, teens will be eligible for promotion to the Political career upon applying once they become young adults. FYI!! We only have 4 days of college, so we get Friday off. My longest days in college are Monday, 11:15 am to 4:45 pm (depending on if we have tutorial first thing. If not, we will come in at 1 pm), and Tuesday, 11:15 am to 4:15 pm. My shortest days are Wensdays, 11:15 am to 3:00 pm and Thursday, 9 am to 12:30 pm. The days that are shorter than the others (mainly Thursday) are the ones that I prioritise focusing on extra work after hours. It is super important to me to use my Thursday free time for extra research/analysises/art work at home so I can so I can stay ahead and not fall behind in class

GRWM! The longest day of the week, Monday!

The goal is to get a bus around 10:25 am to 10:45 am in order to get to college at 11:15 am

[ 000 :: Getting up ]

✦ I wake up at 9:15 am and immediately make my bed because no one likes to come home to an untidy bed.

✦ And then my first favourite thing I do is wonder what I wanna smell like today, I take out my specifically scented body wash, 2 in 1 shampoo, hair gel, body cream, deodorant (preferably scentless), and perfume with the scent I chose and then I do my blanket affirming in my 15-20 minute shower. After the shower, I moisturise my body with my scented body cream, spray deodorant, and move onto my clothes.

[ 001 :: Getting dressed ] — estimated time 9:35

✦ I love dressing up. At this point, I do my best not to overthink what to wear because I know I will be there forever, making multiple outfits but never choosing one. So I focus on what style I'm going for and pick out my clothes, always being mindful of the colours of course and then put them on

✦ Next I decide wether or not I want to wear make up (more times yes than no) but before I do my usual make up look, I quickly do my skin care routine to protect my skin and then I do my cutesy girlie make up all while affirming my blanket affirmations

✦ And then I move on to do my hair. Because I have super curly hair, depending on what style I want, it takes a bit of time to manage. So I usually settle with doing something simple like brushing my curls out into a fro and then putting it into a bun or puffs, or I leave my curls defined and either leave my hair down or put it in a bun, space buns or a tail type which usually takes me 10-15 minutes, taking us up to 9:55-10 o'clock.

✦ But if I'm feeling ambitious, I'll straighten/blow out my hair and do a straight hairstyle. I usually go for bantu knots, spikey buns (my signature half up, half down), pigtails/ponytails, or leave it down. Doing this would take me around 15-20 minutes, taking us up to 10 o'clock to 10:10.

[ 002 :: Breakfast time ] — estimated time 10:00

✦ It's always important to start your day with a satisfied stomach, which is why I always make sure I know what I want to eat for breakfast and if I want to eat a lot. Once I've made my breakfast, I like to look over the work I have already done on my ipad to see what more could be added while I eat.

✦ I try not to eat too slowly or take too much time doing tiny bits of extra work because I still need to brush my teeth and get my bag (which is always already packed). When I have finished my food, brushed my teeth and got my bag, I should be at the door by 10:30 to 10:45

[ 003 :: Ready to leave ] — estimated time 10:40

✦ I don't live far from my bus stop, so it usually takes me around 5-6 minutes to walk there, and then around 25 minutes to get to college on the bus.

✦ But sometimes my man best friend drives to my house to pick me up and then we both go to college together. I don't know which one I prefer the most to be honest but going by car is definitely a lot quicker (given that there isn't any traffic) and I just love beening in the presence of my boyfie bff

[ 004 :: College hours ] — estimated time 11:15

✦ Hurray we arrived on time! Looking delicious and smelling delicious. Now it is time to get to class and get a load of work done like the overachiever I am.

✦ Lunch time comes around and I leave the classroom to the couch area where my (girl) best friend is waiting for me. We chat and eat and chat some more until it's time to part ways back to class.

✦ Another more than generous amount of work gets done be me and my two super cool art besties, I'm sure the same can be said for the rest of the class but this isn't about them rn.

There's five people per table in my class, but only two tables in the middle have the ten of us, the other 3 tables are empty because we're a small class but I sit along side my two good classmates on the left side. We are very attentive, concentrated, and skilled art students. We always check up on each others art and written work, giving each other ideas and such. We are even jokingly referred to as "competition" by two of our other classmates (im not a fan of those two but it is what it is)

[ 005 :: Home time ] — scheduled time 4:45

✦ Sometimes, college can be grueling. Especially on Mondays. So to be able to have a close friend group to reunite with after the last hour of college is so so comforting. ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS AUTUMN/WINTER SEASON because it gets really dark in the late afternoon very quickly and I always prefer to go home with company in these seasons.

✦ I take the same bus as I did to college back home with my friends, usually right after getting a snack together and because we are a group of four (six if i include boy bestfriends sister and her boyfriend), none of us have to worry about strangers sitting next to us.

The bus drive home is always relaxing and in my opinion fun too.

[ 006 :: Arriving home ] — estimated time 5:10

✦ First day of the week done. Time to unwind, clean up, eat, relax and sleep. As soon as I get back home, I love to have a quick gossip with my mum about my day and get unready with my best friends of face time

There's this very common belief that you always have to talk of face time, but that's not all ways true. Me and my friends just like to have each others presence in silence, occasionally being nosy every now and then about what's for dinner, what's on TV and that's about it. Nothing more nothing less and its perfect that way.

I inform my friends I'm off to get a shower, I like to use my scentless soaps and body creams for bed time or maybe some light essential oils like lavender, I get out and throw an oversized T on because I don't like sleeping with bottoms on, yank my pink bonnet over my curls, slip my feet into some fluffy pink sliders and whatever I choose to do with the rest of my evening is random and spontaneous depending on what I'm in the mood for in the comfort of my home that I manifested ♡

Into real life (3)

Back in school things seemed to take on their normal routine.

I was back in class, had to work hard on the new subjects, that had been added to my curriculum by the Army Cadet program, I got some extra tutorials (and extra homework for that, had to basically do two years of Chinese, chemistry and physics in one year), but it was nice to be there, see my mates, hang out in the corridors.

But that was about the extent of my 'freedom'. Every other minute of my life was now controlled, scheduled, regulated.

I was no longer in school cadets, as I was ‘transferred’ to an Army Cadet squad, which had a fine reputation on performing display drills, and had also competed in regional and national finals. 

By and large I spent every afternoon and early evening in the Army barracks. M&H training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, drill on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. On Saturday mornings I was going to have to drill my own platoon of 10-12 year olds, but that took a bit of time to get organised.

On Saturday afternoons I had to be available for Mess service, if there was an event in the officers’ club, or something, and I was also expected to serve there if there was a dinner. 

Out of respect for my Dad my officer kept my Sundays free, to spend time at home, but I could be called up for ‘exceptional duties’, mostly to serve as a waiter during a lunch or stand as ‘honour guard’ during chapel services in a small group of cadets. We had to march in with regimental banners and stand to attention during the entire service.

Most Sundays I had quality time with Dad, but he was often busy, and I usually had a lot of homework or punishment work to get through. I had to do a lot of housework too, now that I had offered myself up to do all of Dad’s laundry too.

A real practical challenge was changing uniforms all the time. I mentioned before that I had to be in uniform always, except when asleep, in the shower or during school PE.

It took a lot of laundry, ironing and preparation to always have everything in perfect order.

I wore my school uniform five days a week, white shirt, blue and white striped tie, grey shorts, black shoes.

For M&H training I had to be in my ‘whites’, my school cadet uniform, white shirt, red and black striped tie, and all that; when we had lessons in dinner and lunch service I had to remember bringing my white gloves. Army Cadet drill was in green shirts, the uniform I wore during Elite Camp. All shirts had to be clean, fresh, perfectly ironed. I tried to cut corners once or twice, putting on a shirt that I'd worn the day before, and was that always found out.

At home I was to present myself for inspection every morning including weekends, but on weekdays I had to change to school uniform directly after that. If the inspection took a bit longer, or things were deemed insufficient, I could be ordered to change my entire uniform on the spot, and that meant I could run late for school.

When I got home after M&H I could stay in whites, after Drill I had to change into them, as it was designated as my default uniform for at home.

Sometimes this was only for a really short period, like when I got home at 8.50 and had to be in bed by 9.30 – I still had to get changed and make sure everything was perfect, because apart from the morning inspections I was prone to random visits by the inspectors, and they sometimes came at 9PM.

It was a lot to manage, but with the help of the inspections and regular punishments, I did OK. There was just no way I could escape it. It's quite amazing what a 15-year old can do if he sets his mind to it....

I was so looking forward to working on my strength and my front splits during the winter break, but my cold caught me off guard. So instead of going all-in, I'm doing a very gentle routine this week. Two small videos a day - to be done in succession, or at different points of the day (morning/night, most likely). It's all about feeling good and at home in the body this week - but we're still working on our flexibility (very gently).

BREAKING NEWS!

This is a major announcement regarding Eggs Attorney's start date and the future of the project!

So... It's been a rough couple of months. On top of some personal setbacks and folks leaving the team, it's become increasingly clear that two newbie amateurs to coding aren't going to be able to make anything functional within a reasonable time frame.

So, in order to still deliver the story and characters and world we've worked so hard to share with you, we're going to take a different direction!

Inspired by the early days of Homestuck and CYOA, we'll be giving you a "mock" version of the game entirely through Tumblr! Each week we hope to post a small blurbs worth of content, moving the story along, capping off with a Scene Transition, an Investigation Phase, or a Cross Examination Phase.

Investigation Phases and Cross Examination Phases will be more lenient than most Ace Attorney Games, you simply reply with what you want to ask! This could be anything from "Press Statement 1" to "ask about her gloves, they look dusty!" to "Present the Oil Canister on account of his skirting around the subject!"

We'll do more in depth tutorials throughout the first and second case, going over each point as if it were a tutorial for Ace Attorney, of course. We'll also keep the Court Record pinned at the top for easy access.

For now though, know we'll likely be starting in / around the latter half of December. In addition, i figured we might as well ask:

Teacher, Excuse Me?: CH. 1

Summary: Felix swore he’d drunk a ton once he was seated in Professor Quick’s office. A new, plaid shirt for the professor would perfectly piece everything together.

Tags: college professor Oliver Quick, possessiveness, infatuation, teacher-student dynamics (both are adults - Felix is a college student).

“Sweet, surgery, and a little distasteful for his long-term health - he wanted to lick those words until they’ve dissolved into his taste buds.”

Professor Quick’s glasses clinked as he pushed it up towards his nose bridge.

An almost disappointed tone. Distraught convoluted the lazy beaming days went by, but it was unacceptable on Professor Quick’s terms. Felix swallowed down his clammy throat that he sure. Sure wasn’t dry before. Was it?

He ran his fingers through his hair and he felt Quick’s eyes piercing through his presence. Certainly, he could mingle on how his body betrayed the code ‘Scholar Boy.’ His cheeks flustered with a slight pink tint.

“No.. sir. I don’t.” He lied. Felix’s eyes were stilled on the floor beneath their feet. Notice me. Notice me. The latter was a good pretender coming from status and money. Pure gratitude towards his parents for being bloody rich.

First rule is distractions are malice! Felix shook it off, seeing professor Quick’s muscles tightening underneath the horrid arrays of blue and white plaid shirt his professor was wearing. Slowly. Felix made a note in his mind to ask Duncan to search the best stores in the country. God, was his mind this pathetic? So gruesome. Felix imagined if Quick would just—

“Felix.” His teacher snapped him out of his thoughts. Out of a dark alley way, out of the sticky lip glosses and perfumes he drowned himself in. Scented musk. A constant reminder that Felix wanted to be good — no. Need is the correct term describing his desire current day.

“Sorry— I uhm..” He furrowed his eyebrows and rubbed his cheek in defeat. First time ever defeated for being caught at doing something shameless.

“I’ve been worried about your performance. During lectures, I took note of how you would wander off most times. Is there anything I should be concerned about?” Mr. Quick’s expression showed concern and leaned onto his desk. A creak crowded his ears.

Oh.

Jesus.

His mind always wandered through the passion Quick portrayed in tutorials. The only reason why he actually came to these stupidly long classes, and if it translated well enough trouble. Maybe… turn an essay late he thought. Receive a terrible grade (which might lower his grade, but worth every effort), and questioned whether or not he’s actually trying.

He was. In different terms.

“I’ve just been..” He slightly shook his head. His eyes pouted, and raised to cover his mouth. Positioned vulnerable. ‘Look what we have here…’ Farleigh’s tease. But he was simply a wounded dog begging to be pouched up in a warm blanket. “I’ve been having a difficulty to manage nowadays. I- I don’t mean to, professor. I really don’t.”

Of course, sweet, sweet Oliver took note. Such a darling, it could’ve made Felix melt on the spot. The quiet response made him anxious. What was going through in that little mind of his?

“I promise—“

“I’ll help.”

O—kay. We’re getting somewhere. Felix raised his eyebrows and was suddenly off guarded by the cut. “Huh?”

Felix wanted to crush those rectangular glasses with his bare hands the moment those baby blue eyes swept upon his mass. He was in bliss.

“I’ll help.” He repeated again. To make sense — to be clear what he’s saying if it wasn’t clear enough. “I offer tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays afterschool for students who struggle. Though— not much students take on the offer,” His finger flexed up from habit and was in thought. Felix noticed. “I’ll be able to organize plans if you’re interested. Would you?” His eyes flickered towards the taller. Even when there wasn’t much communication on his part, it made sense they’d already agreed on the matter.

Smart. Oh, simply gorgeous.

Felix felt his tongue being bit by his teeth to prevent saying anything grotesque. ‘Be patience,’ as if. Felix could’ve (and can) get whatever he wanted. It was only a matter of time until the bottle overflowed.

Too overwhelmed.

He unclenched his fist on his lap once he decided. Felix flicked his tongue in between his lips to quench the dryness. He felt pretentious. Too good to be even settled in Quick’s office, despise his last name being a Catton. Felix pretended to understand, of course. Scowled his face to pretend he was feeling frustrated by the fact that he had to sit at tutoring sessions with Professor Quick. Boring, self centered, fucking prick of a professor. His heart ecstatically pounded once he heard the offer.

His eyes glanced up, hungry for a meal.

“..Okay, yea. That sounds good.” He softly indulged. Made sure his tone lazy and winded — time out.

His poor professor hadn’t witnessed the wolfish grin that carved onto his face once he closed the office door behind him. Felix didn’t feel bad, not one single bit.

“I never knew you were such a fan of me; I’m flattered, actually. I’m glad that didn’t slack off from your hard work - would’ve been a missed opportunity, no?”

After trying a week of workouts inspired by the duelists of Shōjo Kakumei Utena some time ago, I'm using the concept of the rose bride as an inspiration for this weeks' workouts! I've used fairly common level names for this internship as I couldn't think of any others that fit perfectly. Some might sound familiar as I utilized them from The Sims and Sims 2 console games, such as Lab Assistant and Lab Cleaner respectively, although I haven't played those games myself, so the tones used here may differ. The work days for this internship are scheduled for Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays due to Thursday is considered as a holiday if you have the Seasons expansion pack and Shop Club meetings are on Tuesday and Wednesday if you have the Generations expansion pack. The package file includes uniforms and one of them is taken from the Generations expansion pack, specifically from the Catalyst Chemistry Lab Station (Chemistry table) excluding the goggles. Recognizing that not everyone may have this expansion pack, I've created two versions. The Generations version features a lab coat for levels 1 and 2, while the Base Game version uses base game outfits for all three levels. Please download and use only one version in your game! 📣 Upon reaching level three in their internship, teens will be eligible for promotion to the Science career upon applying once they become young adults. Instructions are provided in the picture above; right-click on it and select 'Open image in new tab' for a clearer view. Please relate the following information to your parents/guardians in respect to booking any holidays and events.

Parents/guardians, save this Tumblr link to see your musician’s schedules (posted every Friday)

Please do not take any holidays during term time and keep all dentist and other non-emergency appointments to Thursdays (which is usually your day off) For the time being you will be asked to work from home on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday. This will change around from project to project. You always need to be available all day on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday and Fridays

You will be called in on three Thursdays this term (see below)

TERM 1

For your own public performances, you will need to keep the following dates free:

Your year group will have Thursdays off. This will always be the case except for the week before and week of any shows you are involved with as well as any outside trips that we have planned. 

Your first showing of work will be on the afternoon of the 11th of October, you will need to be available to come in on Thursday 10th of October.

On the same evening as the showing, we will be inviting your parents to an event called ‘Friends of the Miskin’ This is their chance to connect with the staff here and find out more about how your course works and ask us any questions they might have. We plan to showcase some of the music from the afternoon gig for them at the event. This will be from 7:30-9:00pm (details to follow).

On the evening of Friday the 25th of October there will be a Freshers gig with performances from the 2nd year musicians. You will be expected to attend

Half term will be 28th of October-1st of November

We are planning to take you to see an afternoon performance of the West End Show ‘Hamilton’ on Thursday November 7th

You will be performing some music at a live gig on the evening of the 29th of November. You will be expected to rehearse on Thursday 28th of November 

The latest day you will be called in this term will be December 18th

TERM 2 

You are not called back until Tuesday the 6th of January

The 2nd term show dates are Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th of February. So you will be called in on the Thursday of that week (13th of February)

The following week is half term break (17th-21st of February)

You may be playing some of the music from this gig again at our open day on the 4th of March until 7pm in the evening

You will not break up for Easter until the 10th of April. Please be aware that the rest of the college breaks up earlier than you do that week. You are called back on the 22nd of April

You will need to be available on the evening of Friday April 25th to watch the 2nd year musicians perform in the Theatre

Your third term public show dates are Thursday 22nd-Saturday 24th of May

You will need to be available to work on Thursday 1st of May as we have a lunchtime gig the next day and both Thursdays during the two-week period of the show going out (15th and 22nd of May)

YOU WILL BE CALLED IN FOR A DEBRIEF on Tuesday 27th of May and also on another day that week for a tutorial

making an attempt to organize my school week because i learned in college that its so much fuckin harder to make it up as I go (or maybe thats just the autism)

MONDAY:

I have calculus at 8:30 in the morning, french at 1pm, and another calc class at 5:30. Weirdest spaced classes ive ever had so thank god i could fit french as my elective in the middle of the day or i wouldve gone mad. Lots of time in the middle of the day to work on assignments i forgot about for that week

TUESDAY:

hell on earth part 1. Comp sci, english, and physics back to back from 8:30 - 1:00. And i get 10 mins to sprint back and forth across campus. the post-secondary experience fr.

WEDNESDAY:

Calc at 8:30 again, french at 1 again, and then a 2hr phys lab at 3:30. decent day ngl. i have 3.5 hours inbetween math and french so that will probably become a designated work time, mostly for larger projects where I actually need to sit down and focus for a bit

THURSDAY:

hell on earth part 2. CS -> english -> phys lecture. maybe i should be bringing roller blades

FRIDAY:

another calc in the morning, CS at 10:30, physics workshop at 1, and then a physics seminar at 4 30. Fri is usually my catch up on work day, which is perfect bc i have 1-2 hrs inbetween all my classes. aka get all those lab reports and short/weekly assignments done before i forget about them over the weekend lmfao. although. the CS class is a tutorial and the phys is a workshop. so fridays might end up being a lot less busy than i thought idk
