Anglo-Frisian Perspective on the Pronunciation of Old Norse Ǫ
Anglo-Frisian Perspective on the Pronunciation of Old Norse Ǫ
Written by Dyami Millarson Can you imagine the Vikings roaming around in this forest and talking with each other casually in Old Norse and as it so happens, utter a few ordinary Old Norse words that contain the vowel sound ǫ? Old Norse distinguishes the rounded back vowels o and u-umlaut-derived ǫ (i.e., a + u = ǫ, or more properly according to linguistic convention: a + u > ǫ, where > means…

T MY SWEET BABYYY 😭😭😭—
HOW DO I MAKE MYSELF FINISH WRITING THIS GOJO X READER ONESHOT SO THAT I CAN MOVE ONTO A GETO X READER? 😭😭 the situation's so dire like my suguru fic won't make any sense until & unless ppl don't read the satoru fic but i js can't write another word in the gojo fic 🤧🤧🤧 & my mind's overflowing with the geto fic ideas 🤧🤧 [they're gonna be different readers, btw— just that one reader is very much reqd for the story of the other reader; but the vice versa ain't true 😓]
[gojo's stories and the reader in his fics r always a top priority to me— sorry not sorry— from a fellow gojo lover 😉😉]
KITTTTT HI BABY !!!! omg u so real... how far in are you? tbh if youre haaving trouble u could always move on to suguru first if u have the general idea! or does the ending of gojo directly carry over into suguru’s fic? if thats the case maybe u wanna take a break from the fic altogether and try again a few hours later when ur mind is refreshed? i get uuuuu !!! that need to perform is realness but i would say take a breather and write a small unrelated piece of work instead :3, rushing is never fun !!!

^_^ HEHE thank you floppa, it's an honor... it is so fascinating to me, though, genuinely... it was like 145 charges within iirc a decade? like. no hate whatsoever (a little hate because bsod is not an amazing person 🥶 but he does not represent all users, obviously) i just find it unique like how do you KEEP getting caught bro you gotta change your tactics or something

is there any intuitive and non annoying way to input non english characters (including just accented latin letters like éěè etc) with a qwerty keyboard? the best way I'd seen was the one ubuntu does where you can do like alt + u + " = ü and other similarly intuitive stuff for a whole bunch of characters that arent on the qwerty keyboard but now that I'm trying to become literate in mandarin too i wanna be able to write chinese characters too

Idk if it's funny or not (it is for me) but every time I write my family name down, legally, officially, I'm writing it wrong
Because I'm writing it with the french spelling. The way my ancestors wanted it to be written.
But some administration guy wrote it down in German a century or so ago. So I should write it the German way too. All my family should.
But we don't.

a/n: just a little thought i have i want to comfort him and hug him always <3 thank u to the amazing wonderful lovely @vagabond-umlaut for helping me w this fic <33 would’ve been hot garbage without u i love u xoxo <3
wordcount: 720
masterlist
Gojo Satoru had only known life through his many titles.
Gojo Satoru, head of the Gojo clan.
Gojo Satoru, holder of the Six Eyes and Limitless.
Gojo Satoru, the strongest sorcerer.
satoru hated titles. he hated being known and labeled for the things that didn’t even make up who he was. no one after suguru came close to trying to get to know him.
his fellow sorcerers always too busy or intimidated, viewing him as a spectacle.
there was a sense of longing in his heart to find someone who really wanted to know him. someone to ask him all his favorites, someone to ask him what he wanted to be as a child, what his fears were, if he had a middle name, what animal he’s always wanted as a pet.
but there was never anyone who got past the surface level questions.
until he met you.
you who upon meeting him gave him a kind smile, not a clue of who he was, telling him he could sit with you in the booth of the much too crowded coffee shop.
“they really should get more chairs around here” he mumbles, looking up at you with a small grin when you laugh in agreement, glancing up from your laptop.
“seriously! half the time it’s a gamble if I’ll be able to get some work done or if I’ll have to drive back home” you chuckle, gojo smiling at your words.
you both spent some more time talking, sipping on your respective drinks and getting to know each other.
satoru found out you had no clue about Jujutsu, given by the way you’d never heard of jujutu tech or of him. he couldn’t stop himself from giving you a charming smile, scribbling his number on a napkin before saying goodbye, a smile on his face as he walked out of the coffee shop.
you who on the second date asked him what animal he thinks he could fight and win, asking him his favorite songs and if he’d ever been to a concert before.
you who on the fourth date had him giggling, confessing how much he liked you and telling you all about his life because he wants this to work out so bad and it can’t start off as a lie.
you who a week later calls him, asking him to answer truthfully when you ask him what animal he could really take in a fight, laughing when he answers with ‘at least a cow’ his lips curling upwards at the sound.
he’s laying on the couch with you, your hands lost in his hair as the movie plays in the background softly, your voice is quiet as you speak up.
“do you have a middle name?” the question is simple, some might think it silly. but to satoru it’s like his whole world is flipped upside down.
because here he is, in your warm and homey apartment that’s nothing like his cold larger one, with you, who brings him all the love and joy he could’ve ever imagined. he’s looking at you with glimmering eyes, heart stuttering at the sight of you in his shirt that you’d stolen with a smile.
it’s with that question that he’s realizing he’s finally found someone who really wants to know him. who doesn’t care for his power or status, but cares for his terrible jokes and interests.
“toru?” you asked, pulling him out of his daze and back to reality.
“sorry” he smiles sheepishly before shaking his head ‘no,’ a look in his eyes you can’t quite place.
satoru finally finds himself with titles that mean something to him. titles that he cherishes and holds close to his heart.
Gojo Satoru, who eats anything and everything that was sweet, claiming they’re no match for the sweet taste of your lips.
Gojo Satoru, who had an insane secret obsession with romcoms. an obsession you were sure was just to get you to cuddle him until you found him up at 3 am watching a terrible hallmark movie all on his own.
Gojo Satoru, who couldn’t stand when you were mad at him, going to drastic measures for you to forgive him.
Gojo Satoru, who considered himself lucky enough to hold the title of your boyfriend, your confidant and your favorite sorcerer.

Apparently the people at DC came up with the name for Blüdhaven by wanting to name the city Blood Haven, but to make the edginess a bit less obvious they changed the spelling up a bit and added an umlaut, with the in-story explanation being that it was founded by german whalers.
"Blüd" isn't a german word though. The german word for blood is "Blut" and by making the "u" a "ü" you actually make it sound closer to the present tense of the german verb "blühen" which is "(er/sie/es) blüht" and translates to blooming. So the most accurate translation would probably be Bloom(ing) Haven.
Which has a very different vibe😅

Konjunktiv in German
This is part of the Langblr reactivation challenge! This is day 9 :)
Write an explanation on a grammar rule in your target language (such as verb tenses, exceptions, word order, etc). Include sentences to show how and when it is used.
Sooo Konjunktiv, we finally meet.
Aka this is the Konjunktiv post that nobody asked me to write and yet I did. This is the English version, but you can also find the German version here (I can't promise that it will be more understandable tho) :)
Konjunktiv I is used for indirect speech. There are also some fixed situations in which one always uses Konjunktiv I. The main verb is only conjugated in the present tense; the auxiliary verbs are conjugated for the other tenses.
The verb sein is regular in Konjunktiv I: ich sei, du seiest, er sei, wir seien, ihr seiet, sie seien.
The rest of verbs are conjugated with the following pattern:
The third person singular is the most used, because it's the most frequent form in indirect speech. In order to conjugate it, one must remove the -n from the infinitive form: haben - er habe.
The modal verbs are also regular in the 1st and 3rd person singular: ich/er/sie/es müsse.
2nd person singular and plural are different from the indicative only by an -e: du gehst - du gehest/ihr geht - ihr gehet.
The 1st person singular and 1st and 3rd persons plural are the same as the indicative, so one must use the Konjunktiv II for situations when these persons are needed.
One can build sentences in the past, present and future with Konjunktiv I :
Simultaneity. The main and subordinate clauses occur at the same time: er sagt, sie lese ein Buch.
Anteriority. The subordinate occurs before the main clause: er sagt, sie habe ein Buch gelesen.
Posteriority - Futur I and II. The subordinate occurs in the future of the main clause: er sagt, sie werde ein Buch lesen/er sagt, sie werde ein Buch gelesen haben.
To speak about things that are impossible or unlikely, we use Konjunktiv II, but also for indirect speech and other situations:
Wishes and hopes.
Unreal statements or conditional sentences.
As previously explained, indirect speech (when Konkunktiv I isn't possible)
Particularly polite or careful requests or statements
There is one pure form of Konjunktiv II, for the present, and several forms with auxiliary verbs.
For the present, only strong verbs are conjugated in Konjunktiv II, because the subjunctive form in weak verbs is the same as indicative Präteritum. In order to conjugate strong verbs in Konjunktiv II, one must add the subjunctive endings (-e, -est, -e, -en, -et, -en) to the Präteritum root. Additionally, the verbs that have an a/o/u receive an Umlaut:
ich fände, du fändest, er fände, wir fänden, ihr fändet, sie fänden.
The modal and auxiliary verbs are also conjugated in Präteritum in Konjunktiv II:
ich wäre/ich hätte/ich würde/ich könnte/ich dürfte/ich müsste/ich sollte/ich wollte...
But many people already know these forms! They are the ones used for polite requests: ich hätte gerne...
The other tenses are conjugated with auxiliary verbs:
For situations in the future, but also for those in the present, one can use würden + infinitive. This is also the only form can be used for the present in weak verbs: ich würde warten.
Plusquamperfekt is constructed with haben or sein in Konjunktiv II + the participle of the verb. It's the past tense: ich hätte gefunden/ich wäre gegangen.
There is a second future form, Futur II, which is built with würde + participle + haben/sein: ich würde geträumt haben.
Thank you very very much to @dreamofghosts for the corrections and help in making sense of this....... interesting topic lol!!

Some naming conventions I got.
Angels of Ael get their names by simply having any array of alphabetic symbols put between the prefix A- and the suffix -el. If the array begins with A, then the prefix gains an umlaut; If the array ends with E, the suffix gains an umlaut. Thus Asoupel, Aexampleël, Äabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzel, Astrange-nameël, Aisn'tel are valid names for them.
The royal bloodline of Xerii get their names by putting the clusters/hiatuses inside a word in reverse order, and: If there's an initial cluster -> Add "a-" Male firstborn -> Suffix "-ius" Female firstborn -> Suffix "-iel" Male nextborn -> Suffix "-is" Female nextborn -> Suffix "-ia". Names like Arkadia, Noicius, Erociel, Koais are valid names.
There's a way of naming I could use that I haven't labeled yet. Take a four or less letter word with a consonant cluster in it and break said cluster with "i", then add: Masculine suffix: -or, -an Feminine suffix: -ia, -elle, -anna Family name suffix: -is, -us, -as, -es, -os, (toponymics like "shire", "hill"), -ax.
Another uses a cryptolang called "Duenagáir". -> Replace A with Ue, E with Αi, I with Eo, O with Io and U with Oa. -> Break consonant clusters with "a". -> Add an acute accent to the penultimate vowel. Thus names like Duérak, Seonagáir, Giurái and the like are born. Or, an alternative last step could be to add an apostrophe before the last vowel, creating names like Teogara'iss, Meosata'ir, Sawiur'ad, Soagu'er, Meon'at...

im brainstorming my angel universe (universe with angels. as u know.) so im gonna dump abt dot who is one of the main characters and also an angel. ok
dot has been in a more human-form or on earth since the 1960s. she doesn't identify with any human gender but uses she/her and he/him pronouns.
she lovesssss pastors and priests she thinks its so cute that men devote themselves so perfectly. shes had two relationships, one w a pastor in the 60s (who influenced a lot of her human dynamics) and one in the 90s . his name is oscar :) the only time ive drawn them was porn. and with an out of date design.
she tells people that dot is short for dorthy BUT it is actually short for "i". literally. she saw the dot of an I and thought it was so cute she named herself after it
her special interest is written language. like she's obsessed with it. the language that angels speak can't be transcribed so she's obsessed with how humans have done so. her three favorite marks are Us with umlauts on them (Ü), upside down question marks (¿) and ampersands (&)
if you introduced her to conlangs she'd lose her mind
on a more horror-esc note she doesn't know what the inside of humans look like so if she got cut open it'd just look like raw meat, like the repeating texture of raw steak with the marbled fat and everything. this was influenced by her partner in the 1960s
she's very sweet and cheerful but not like the "born sexy yesterday" trope. she knows a lot about human culture and loves reading and watching tv shows and movies in her free time. while she has an easier time picking up on languages, she still needs to learn them, and she learns best by reading/watching stuff in that language. give baby library card.
