I was deeply impressed by this sentence due to what happened a long, long time ago… after I’ve met him and before we parted.

The last sentence from the person whom I’d considered as my most important person.

And there's the second most iconic quote in UL... I actually forgot who said it, so when I saw it in 1.2 I went and searched it up... Ah, it was said by Bing Yan before his death.

I was always confused by this quote, and the translation doesn't help either. But some people online explained it in connection to YY's power: That the words he speaks genuinely from the heart will come true. In other words, he twists it into another meaning to encourage Yang Yang rather than the dark evil power people say Yaoshi have - you will achieve anything as long as you are being true and genuine.

To think it was foreshadowed this early on, and it was so deceptive it was written as if someone told Yang Yang these words in the past... When this is actually a scene in the future.

Also, confirmation that Bing Yan is Yang Yang's most important person! It seems obvious, because Bing Yan is Yang Yang's guide, the one who led him into his new life, and a connection that spans a thousand years. But still nice to have this confirmation.

Actually, this was a little hard to think of. Considering it was a naughty fic prompt, I can only imagine what a private moment implies, but Dijana simply had 0 interest in such a thing (prior to rekindling her relationship with G'raha anyway). As the Crystal Exarch, I think he was also a bit more restrained than how he acts back on the Source in his younger body, but I think I could see him just wanting to look at her, after working for a century to save her.

Maybe I'll take a look at this later and edit/add more ------------------

Hidden beneath the hood, the Exarch's sanguine eyes watched as the visions on the Allagan mirror came to life before him.

He had bid Dijana farewell just before returning to the Tower, he knew she was safe and well in her room in the Pendants, and yet...

As so often seemed to be the case these days, he couldn't resist checking in on her one more time, without her knowledge of course. The Warrior of Darkness had already not been pleased (to put it lightly) with his summoning of her to the First, and he had only just seemed to have won some semblance of trust from her.

Though he couldn't help but wonder her reaction if she knew who hid beneath the hood...

There she was, of course, alone in her room, her armor shed and greatsword resting against the wall in the corner. Her hair was loose, and her eyes...he wasn't sure he'd ever seen her look so worn, so tired. His heart lurched- she was not at all like the shy young woman he had met a century before. How much she must have gone through in what was only a few short years for her since their parting?

Right now, she looked so vulnerable. He should stop watching her now, he knew, but once again, he could not bring himself to look away. So long he had labored in this world, worked to save it, save her, and he could not even speak the truth to her. These moments where he could watch her, unguarded and alone, was the closest he could get to being with her as they once had, in a life so long ago.

And then, she began to undress.

Oh, she is about to bathe. Oh, he should definitely stop watching her now.

He really should stop watching her now.

Why was he not ending this vision?

He knew why, though he did not want to admit to it. Propriety dictated he look away, not intrude on her privacy, but the young man from long ago who had loved and lusted after her once upon a time was being remembered.

Dijana dressed more revealing now than what he remembered from their time in Mor Dhona, but even now it still hid much of her toned and muscled body, those shadowed scales, already showing faint golden lines from the light aether she had absorbed.

He watched her lips part in a silent sigh, settling herself down into the tub, her head rolling back to look up, and for a moment, directly towards him, before she simply closed her eyes. He watched the way her dark hair fanned out around her in the water, the way she seemed to finally relax in a manner he had not seen at all since her arrival in the First.

His hand gripped heavier at the staff at his side, his jaw set, and his eyes wandered over her body.

There were scars. So many scars. Deep slashes into her scales, burns that had never fully healed on her flesh. Remainders of past battles she hid throughout the day.

Would she ever willingly show them to him, he wondered?

but omg when I go back and reread their original canon, zee loved him so much without even realizing it. And John has loved so many people, and yet it was always zee he wanted in his life for big moments. They could’ve stayed ambiguous exes and parted ways, but he trusted her with Tim and she forgave him for the seance. Even in JLD Vol 2 and UL, her own father brought john back to life for her! She goes to him when she’s distressed and he knows her tells! god, I completely changed my own outlook and now I have so much faith in them it’s unreal.

No Eul kinda cute. No Eul is also a cute guy's name. Its cute when Yeo Ul pats Woori's head. No Eul's brother's name being Ga Eul is so cute. No Eul trying to share his umbrella with Woori is the cutest thing to me. He's so shy. Dr. Ko just seems like a great lady.

I like Yeo Ul looking at Woori fondly. I like Moonhee. Beom is so kind. Great friend. Yeo Ul's adoptive parents making her dresser into a bed is the most beautiful thing. Woori has such great friends. I would ship Woori and Yeo Ul. It's amazing how kindly and supportively they can speak to each other.

Batman: Urban Legends, Cheer

I’ve talked a little bit about why Batman: Urban Legends is a bad story already, but I just saw a post talking about this panel and how well Bruce has been written in this story. And while the post didn’t really say anything about Jason, OP’s comments in the notes talked about how this seemed to be a direct response to people trashing Bruce for beating on the poor and disenfranchised, talking about how he’s finally “in character”, how he has a lighter touch and tends to think things through and how the story is teaching Jason a lesson about his “tendency” to brute his way through things without thinking about them, and how Jason wasn’t OOC.

My first post about UL touches on why that last bit is nonsense, but the stuff about Bruce reminded me of something else in UL that really, really bothered me. 

It’s the above panel and these, not just in the context that this story rewrites Jason as ALWAYS having been prone to violence and willing to wail on the weak, but also in the sense that Bruce, of all people, is the one chosen to teach this lesson to Jason. 

[that sentence ends in the next panel with “...stealing the Batmobile’s tires?”]

It’s just one more way DC keeps chipping away at what makes Jason (the Robin raised in poverty, the one who grew up with a first-hand insight into the way Gotham’s systemic corruption and crimes do the most harm to the poorest and least powerful people, and the only one to be personally affected by addiction) special and interesting. It’s just the most recent way they’ve bastardized his roots to villainize him (the poor homeless kid who was brutally murdered) so that Bruce (the billionaire) looks better, so that Bruce is absolved of all his responsibility in how Jason came to be the Red Hood.

Because in actuality, Jason taught Bruce that criminals can change.

Bruce didn’t listen. He stalked Penguin and when he found him, Bruce had to eat his words.

Penguin had actually tried to change. Bruce realized his mistake and tried to defend him after he was arrested, but the damage was done.

By the way, this is from when Penguin was just a jewel thief. Let that sink in for a sec. Go back up to the panel from Urban Legends with Batman and Robin in the alley and reread it.

And this, this story with the Penguin, is how it should be. Not that crap from UL. 

I don’t know why people have to keep saying this but Jason isn’t stupid. He’s incredibly smart and his actions, even his violence, are rooted in empathy and indignation on behalf of the innocent who are harmed, not rage. The above panels in UL are basically like saying that Cassandra Cain has suddenly changed her mind that everyone can be saved and decided to join Jason in killing super villains. This is the core of the character we’re talking about. It’s not the dumb little details like whether he likes coffee or eats cereal or whatever. It’s the heart of the character. It’d be like taking the circus out of Dick’s story, or the love of Robin from Tim’s, or making someone other than Talia Damian’s mother. 

Jason is very aware that petty crime is often motivated by desperation. He literally lived that life. That’s why he’s never targeted people like that the way this book shows him to.

Even when he returned, he was never an indiscriminate killer and he was never violent for the sake of it. He didn’t beat the shit out of addicts because he was an impatient little bitch. He was methodical and calculative and he only killed people who preyed on the weak, the innocent, and the defenseless. 

Like the mob’s drug lieutenants who dealt to kids:

Like these bastards, who were deep in denial and broke Jason’s golden rule, no dealing to children. 

Because drug dealers purposefully target kids, relying on addiction to make them repeat customers for life.

Rapists and the scum who prey on people at their most vulnerable:

And nazis.

The fact is, Jason certainly has his faults, but he would never, ever, do this to an addict:

Writing him like he would is out of character. Drastically. 

Jason doesn’t go off half-cocked. He doesn’t jump in blind. These aren’t lessons he needs to learn in anything except this story which specifically wrote him as idiotic and mean as possible to squeeze him into the box the writer needed him to fit into.

Jason has never been written quite this bad before, but even if you take the few random instances over the last 15 years, where he’s been written as meaner and dumber than usual as his core character, how can you stand there and say that Bruce’s style is a calmer, more rational approach and say how he’s been written for the last 30 years is ooc????

For the kind of story Batman: Urban Legends seems to be telling, Bruce is literally the last character this message should be funneled through. Bruce is a billionaire (or... multi-millionaire, for now in the main continuity but who knows what’s canon for this). It’s so fucking tone-deaf to keep writing this kind of interaction between Bruce and Jason. 

Do I agree that Bruce should be written as more understanding and empathetic and less vicious than he sometimes is since the 80′s, by the way, this isn’t new? Absolutely.

Do I think this was a good example of that or a reasonable template going forward? Absolutely not. 

DC needs to stop sacrificing what makes Jason Todd interesting, what makes the character an excellent tool to tell meaningful, topical stories, for today’s audiences, just to prop up Bruce. 

For starters, Bruce doesn’t need that?

Their roles in this story don’t have to be swapped. There are ways to write this kind of stuff that doesn’t fuck up a character. See the above example with Penguin. And that’s from the fucking 80′s. How are Reagan-era comics telling stories about poverty, addiction, and reformed criminals with more nuance and tact and consideration than something in 2021????

I just think it’s fucking sad.

And extremely frustrating.

just read one of the saddest fics ive ever read in my life. help.

the fic was “blue notebooks” by dulcinea. i know they don’t write metallica fics anymore but holy shit i would’ve liked to see more from them. especially the ending to child in time. plus yours, pinkmaggots, and mondsterne-kuesst’s fics have such intense amounts of angst sometimes that i have to put my phone down and take a break because it gets to be too real.

having said that, it’s crazy to me how after years of being on the internet surfing through fandoms (and staying in them for years at a time) and now being an adult and being in the metallica fandom, ive read some of the best fanfiction ever. idk how you people do it, but i think the universe clumped some of the best fanfiction writers into one fandom. from smut to angst, to fluff, to amazing characterization and dialogue, it’s all fucking there. in its glory.

so keep up the good work. i can’t wait to see more from you as well. i know you’ve got some stuff whipped up in your google docs and i wish u the best in your writing adventures and take all the time you need and down burn yourself out!

i really liked Blue Notebooks ! i last read it a couple years ago, but it was great, jeez. might be time for a reread. i also MOURN for Conditions, i think about that one so often ... smh 😔 writers lose interest in shit over time, interests change & it's totally natural, i don't hold that against Dulcinea at all. i'm just glad they wrote so much good stuff while they were still into Metallica :'-)

1. Hannibal Rewrite (Will Graham x reader x Hannibal Lecter)

I worked so hard on this and am so so proud of the end result. I don’t really like to read my own work but I reread certain chapters all the time and am proud to say I wrote it.

2. Cardigan (Will Graham x reader)

I love this fic. I feel like I wrote it in such a headspace where I didn’t have to think about the words as they came out and I love will so much. This is the only solo Will fic I’ll add but I’m proud of them all tbh.

3. Frankenstein (Hannibal Lecter x reader)

Idk why this Hannibal fic hit different whole writing but it did. I just adore it.

4. Admission (Patrick Bateman x reader)

I wrote this in January I think and I had like ten requests that I didn’t want to do so I wrote this and it ended up being my favorite Patrick fic. I just think it’s so in character which I’m proud of.

5. New Nurse (Michael Myers x reader)

This was my first shot at an actual slasher and it was so well received and that really STILL makes my heart warm. Who would’ve known the slasher fandom was so nice. But I am also proud of the writing itself along with the kindness I got from it.
