As part of one of our exams, we had to create a short film using Unreal Engine 5 as the base program. I was the Art Director, and I had the opportunity to work with really lovely people for this.

Blog Post 11: Choosing Software Tools for Full Pipeline
Planning the full pipeline for Hui Long was a vital step to make sure the project would stay professional and organized.
I selected industry-standard software for each stage of the character creation process:
• ZBrush – For high-poly sculpting of the body, face, props, and detailed cloth folds
• Marvelous Designer – For building realistic cloth simulations for the monk robes • Autodesk Maya – For retopology, UV unwrapping, and basic rigging for posing • Substance Designer – For creating custom fabric patterns and material maps • Substance Painter – For detailed PBR texturing (skin, cloth, metals, props) • Photoshop – For creating tattoo alphas and small texture polish • Unreal Engine 5 – For cinematic real-time rendering, cloth simulation, and final lighting
Choosing the right software early helps me plan my workflow properly, match AAA-quality pipelines, and keep all assets ready for final rendering.
Each tool I chose has a distinct function in my production and mastering them all together provides me with a solid foundation for creating expert character artwork.

Unreal Engine 5 for hyperrealism in a non-creepy way
the hair!!!!
kids and toddlers look natural!
Motion capture for the animations - SO GOOD
interesting: seems like clothing can be adorned with patterns generated by AI
being able to dive deep into Korean culture (a welcome alternative to the Americanized Sims games)
the clothes look so natural on the bodies!
cats!?!
finally, a company that does not create their games to run on smartphones, but has gamers with a gaming rig in mind! I will happily save up and invest in a new PC to be able to play at this level of awesome

Admit One Dev Blog: Update 60 - Continuing Player Art (Part 20)
While working on the other stuff I've been posting here, I've still been chipping away at the Base Player character model. Since the last update, I've done some additional polish on the face to give it some more definition as well fixed the hole in their head and modeled the ears.
The body overall has seen a lot of work done on it as well, with some helpful feedback from some friends, I've really overhauled the finer details of its proportions. Bringing in the default Unreal Engine 5 character model (Manny) has also helped a lot on that front in addition to being a good reference for getting the model into a more standard A-Pose for rigging.
This part of the project has been by far one of the most arduous things I've had to do (a third of this blog has been dedicated to it so far!), by the end I'm hoping I'll have a very strong base character model to work with that can be a jumping off point for other characters as well as a strong foundation for Character Customization. I'm very glad the end is in sight with this haha That's it for this week, thanks for reading!
