Andrew X Neil: understanding and trust, cigarettes, fast and expensive cars, midnights and long drives and lazy mornings, cats, lingering stares, tousled hair, soft touches, neck kisses, keys, intertwined fingers, sharing blankets, feeling like coming home after a long day
Kevin X Andrew: desperation and determination, long and comfortable silences, harsh words, tentative touches, driving each other mad, varsity jackets, longing, push and pull and giving in, biting kisses, linked pinkies, fierce hugs, a silver lining in the dark
Neil X Kevin: obsession and devotion, bantering, pushing each other to do their best, ferocious grins, bruises, running, lazy cuddles, clasped hands, falling asleep on each other shoulders, familiar kisses, knowing that someone will always be there for you no matter what

Hot Take
museums should label 19th-century women’s clothing primarily by formality (except in the case of garments with specific purposes, eg. “cycling costume” or “nightgown”), not by the 10,000 different terms they might be called at the time
my reasoning is that the current hodgepodge of terms, while technically accurate to the period:
1. reinforces the myth that middle- or upper-class women used to always change their dresses many times a day No Matter What, rather than what seems to me the primary-source-supported reality- that they changed situationally, as necessary
2. promotes unnecessary disconnect between the past and the present. we have varying degrees of clothing formality today, just without specific terms for each one. they had garments that could serve for multiple purposes and be dressed up or down with accessories back then. but because we don’t talk about an “afternoon dress” vs. a “ball gown” and they didn’t talk about the dress code for a party being “nice casual” vs. “dressy.” there’s this false idea that our systems of clothing changes/formality are Totally Different. which is really not the case, I think
3. even they couldn’t agree on what to call each individual outfit! I’ve seen fashion plates in magazines where the textual description and the label on the image give the same dress different names
this post brought to you by: Marzi Has Seen Too Many Gowns Labeled “Evening Gown” On Museum Websites Apparently For Their Formality When In Truth They Do Not Have The Single Factor That Usually Made A Dress Strictly For Evening At The Time (namely, revealing more skin about the chest and arms) And Therefore Would Have Stood Just As Well For Formal Daytime Events

any update on friends w benefits fic 👀👀
I've been away on a long weekend road trip, so I wasn't able to write much last week, but I did mentally write several more scenes in my head before bed each night 😂
Currently I am at ~18k words on paper. I am fearing this is going to have to be split up into an actual multi-chapter fic because I still have a lot more plot to go, in which case I still want to write all of it before starting to post (because I am bad at finishing wips if I don't).
here's a little snippet I wrote this morning:
A few games before that, away in Liverpool, Jamie had lined up what he thought was a perfect goal only to hit the crossbar. That were stupid of him, too, though that time Roy started clapping encouragingly on the sidelines alongside his and Beard’s initial grunts of disappointment, and Sam and some of the other lads had smacked him on the back in like, team solidarity. Besides, Jamie had already scored once that match, and they still won in the end, so it weren’t so bad. Still. It would have been enough to earn him a slap to the skull or a flick to the back of his neck, at least. Before.
The rules were all different now, but Jamie hadn’t been given an updated playbook. With this new and improved version of his father, he didn’t know why the sight of a new voice message after the game still filled him with dread. He’d waited to click on it until he was well out of earshot of the dressing room, and then felt silly for it when his old man’s low voice drawled out lazily over the speakers, “you’ll get ‘em the next time, son,” and then, even more ludicrously, invited him out for dinner.
This was the sort of thing Jamie had always wanted—a dad who would pat him on the back after matches instead of flay him open—so why did it still feel so fucking eerie? Like all the lines had been redrawn and he didn’t know where the new ones began, let alone ended. He kept waiting for the floor to drop out beneath him, for the uncertainty to swallow him whole.

[not even through first page of dash on allotted brief lunch time tumblr break]
[absolutely fantastic post about Palestine and Palestinians persevering and living and don’t let your western media propaganda bias dehumanise them to you based on stereotypes about their people during this ongoing genocide perpetuated by the state of israel]
awesome awesome hell yeah cool yes reblo-
“so anyway yeah Death To Israel”
…it would’ve been so fucking easy.
to not immediately miss the entire subtext of your own damn post.
“Dissolve.” “Dismantle.” “Deconstruct.” “Topple.” “Overthrow.” or i don’t know, just fucking…
one of so many other words that explicitly and specifically describe a process of removing the authority and sovereign status of a nation/state and its radical, war criminal government and occupying military forces.
but no instead let’s go with Death just fucking kill them all wipe them out the same way they’re doing to Palestine because as we all know of course there’s no “citizens” in israel actively fighting and protesting and campaigning and being targeted by their own radical government for it. they’re all just exactly the same as the stereotype all the media making it out of israel shows - toxic, racist, inhuman, bullshit viral video/tiktok stars, who are all cheering and making jokes about it, and if you try to humanize israelis right now what are you a fucking zionist how DARE you not support Palestine?
and then these same folks will turn around and say “okay y’all STOP freaking out about retaliatory violence, NO ONE is saying freeing Palestine means theyre are gonna turn around and try to wipe israeli’s* out the same way, that’s making a LOT of incredibly harmful assumptions about them based on barbaric and fearmongering stereotypes ”
…in the same fucking breath they just said “death to israel.”
8 whole minutes in and that’s ALREADY enough social media for the day 🫥

Part of being Canadian is how similar we are to the US, and honestly not a single person on earth I think could genuinely pin point the difference between Canadian and American culture but the average Canadian. Americans assume we're the same as them (we aren't), even a bunch of Canadians think we're Americans, especially around voting seasons, and about half our cultural identity is "we're Not American!" but there are some cultural differences and if we all spoke French equally we could have had a language distinction but nooooo. Despite not being America unfortunately such a fuck off massive country right below your teeny tiny ass country (population wise) does result in a cultural avalanche from said fuck off massive country. Especially when you share a language.
The war of 1812 will forever be funny to me though because Americans were like "hmm maybe Canadians would also like to tell the British to fuck off, we will invade to show them!" And Canada was like *burns down the white house* and we've been tentatively chill with each other ever since lmao (even when we probably like. Shouldn't be cool with America but like. We could not risk that implosion politically or otherwise it'd be suicide).
