“Don’t move, and don’t make a sound.”
You stare off in front of you, your body moving with the blondes as he bites down onto your neck. You remain still, allowing him to sink his fangs into the delicate skin on your neck.
Your head falls to the side more as he groans against your skin, licking and lapping up the slight mess before pulling away.
His eyes scan over your face as he licks his lips. He slips your hand into his and pulls you towards the back of the nightclub, spinning you to face him before he shoving you back into the wall.
You smirk, “How was that?”
“Oh baby, you’re perfect at pretending to be human.”
Sam loved when he could compel you, but since you’re not a vampire yourself and can’t be compelled, you offered to spice things up by prepending to be human.
But this time it’s different, since he persuaded you to flip that little humanity switch to off, you’ve had the most fun you ever had in either of your lives.
His lips crash onto yours and you moan against his lips, pulling him in closer as your leg lifts to his hip, “I need a drink.”
“Pick anyone you want, sweetheart. The floor..” He motions to the sea of bodies, “..is yours.” He turns his head back to look at you, “Just one condition, I get to watch.”
“Such a dirty boy.” You tease as you reach up to wipe the blood from his chin before placing it on his tongue.
Sam keeps eye contact as his tongue swirls around to get all the blood, “Can’t help that I think you’re so damn hot when you’re sucking someone else dry.”
You bite your lip, pulling him in to kiss him.
You have a heated make out before you push him off of you, “Seriously. I need a drink.” You walk past him and he groans, “You’re so fucking hot.”
You smirk as you keep walking, making your way through the crowd to find the perfect victim.
You slide your hand down one guy’s arm, smiling at him as you walk around to the front, “don’t move, don’t make a sound.”
You glance up at Sam as you sink your teeth into the guys neck, groaning lowly as you almost drink him dry.
“Alright, baby. Hey. Not here.” Sam slides his hand in, lifting your chin up and face away from the neck, “Not here, okay?”
You lick your lips, pulling Sam in to kiss him, “Go wait in the ally. I have a surprise for you.”
He nods, “Don’t be too long.”
You roll your eyes, “You know I won’t.”
He smirks and walks away from you, leaving you to do whatever it is you need to do. You lean back, wiping your mouth on your wrist, “Go home. You don’t know what happened here.”
You push the guy towards the door and scan the area for your surprise. You smirk, waking up to a girl who’s standing alone, “You look like you hate your life.”
“What?” She asks with a laugh and you tilt your head, “Say you hate your life.”
“I hate my life.”
“Good.” You extend your hand out, “Follow me.” She takes your hand and you lead her through the back and out the side door.
“What’s this?” Sam asks, “Looks like we’re continuing to have a fun night, yeah?”
You smile, “Actually.” You look at the girl, “Don’t move. Don’t speak. Don’t make a sound.” You look back at Sam, walking up to him as you speak, “I’ve heard that murder..” you grip his shoulders, quickly pushing him against the brick wall, “..to a vampire..” you drag your tongue up his neck, “Is the greatest confession of love to the other.”
“You gonna kill her for me?” Sam slides his hand up, fingers wrapping around your throat, “Show me how much you love me?”
“Yes baby.” You bite your lip, “I want you to know that I will rip apart anyone for you.”
He bites his lip, smirking as he nods, “What are you waiting for then, sweetheart. I think my gift is getting bored.”
“Please.” You laugh, “She has no idea what’s coming to her.” You quickly move so you’re behind her, laying your hand on her forehead to tilt her head to the side.
You lift your head slightly, snapping it down to sink your fangs into her neck. You look up, still drinking as you lock eyes with Sam.
He walks over, moving his gaze from you to her, smirking as the life leaves her eyes. You drop her to the ground, pushing Sam against the wall.
His hands are on your hips, pulling you into him as your lips attack his.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the people I thought I’d find here.”
You huff against Sam’s lips, “Go home, Colby, you’re not wanted nor needed here.”
Colby chuckles, “Well aren’t you just a delight. I see Sam here..” He quickly moves to stand right next to you, “..Urged you to flip that little switch.”
“What do you want, Colby?” Sam turns his head to look at him, and Colby sighs, “Well I’ve been trying to find you guys since you took off, mainly to stop..” He motions to the body on the ground, “.. This from happening.”
“Yeah. You seem to be late to the party on that one.” You roll your eyes, pulling Sam with you, “Fuck off, Brock.”
You and Sam make your way back inside, moving within the crowd.
“You’re beautiful.” One guy says as his hand drags over your waist. You laugh, giving him a smile, “I’m also violent.. Vulgar..”
The guy shrugs, “I’ll be into anything you want.”
You smirk, pushing him back against Sam, “Glad you say that. Don’t move don’t scream, don’t do anything, okay?”
Sam doesn’t hesitate, sinking his fangs into the side of the guys neck.
Sam has killed for you before. Multiple occasions.
You ogle Sam as he glances up at you, and you needed him now more than you ever have. You walk up, turning the guys face towards you, “Leave. Don’t tell anyone about what happened.”
The man leaves and you’re on Sam, kissing up his neck and nipping his ear, “I need you to fuck me.”
“Say no more.” Sam pulls you away, walking you towards the bathroom. Colby walks up next to you, “You know I’m getting real tired of cleaning up your messes.”
“Well good thing you won’t have to worry about this one.” You turn around, flicking him off as Sam pulls you in through the open door.
You’re usually a sweetheart to Colby, and now that you have no sense of sweet left in you, you really got under his skin which only thrilled you more.
Sam locks the door, quickly moving over to you and you’re slammed onto the counter. His hands slide up your dress, instantly pushing past your panties, and plunging two fingers into you.
You spread your thighs wider, moaning out as you slide your hand down his chest, stopping at his jeans. You quickly undo them, reaching in to pull out his cock to stroke it as his fingers work inside of you.
He reaches up, tilting your head up with his fingers on your chin, “Mine.”
“Same for you.” You reach up with your other hand, pulling him in by the neck. Your walls squeeze his fingers and he nods, “Come on, baby. Cum for me.”
Your back arches and you squeeze his cock a little harder which earns a groan from him, “That’s it, baby. Fuck.”
“Fuck.” You groan out loudly, “I need more.”
You push his hand away, sliding to the edge of the counter and Sam slips his cock into you. His grip is harsh on your waist as he groans into your neck.
“Bite me.” You breathe out, “I-I-“ you moan louder as Sam sinks his fangs into your neck. The feeling of him sucking your neck drives you insane, “Shit, yes baby.”
Your hands slide up to tangle your fingers in his hair, pulling his head back so you can do the same to him.
He reaches up, laying a hand on the back of your head as you suck his neck, “Fuuuck.”
His thrusts grow harder after you pull away, earning screams of pleasure to escape from the walls of your lips, “Sam. Sam.” You moan out, “So fucking close.”
“Cum on my cock, baby.” Sam presses his lips to your forehead and you look up, smashing your lips onto his.
He leans you back, placing on hand on the counter as his thrusts grow faster, “You feel so fucking good.” You smirk, “Keep talkin’, baby.”
“I love the way you feel around me.”
“Goddammit you are just so fucking sexy.”
“M’gonna cum, fill that pussy completely.”
“My fuckin’ girl.”
He lifts his other hand to your cheek, “Humanity or no humanity, you still have me wrapped around your finger.”
“Damn right I do.” You moan as you tilt your head back, rolling your hips forward as you cum again. Sam pulls you towards him, spinning you around to slam you up against the door.
He kisses down your neck and over your chest, “Fuck, fuck. Shit.”
You feel his cock twitch inside of you, both of you moaning out as he fills you.
You rest your head back against the door, smiling as he sets you down. You reach down to fix your panties and tug your dress down as Sam fixes himself.
“Now where?” Sam asks with a smirk and you shrug, walking over to wrap your arms around his neck, “Not sure. But I definitely think we need to ditch Colby.”
Sam nods, “I am one hundred percent with you on that one.” He presses his lips to yours, sliding his hand up to run his thumb over the dried blood, “you wanna wash up quick?”
You shake your head, shrugging, “Why do that if I’m just going to keep getting dirty?”
Sam bites his lip, shaking his head slowly, “I see what you mean.” He flicks his brows up, “Maybe we can convince Colby to join us on our little escapade.”
“You’d be okay with that?” You tilt your head and he rolls his eyes, “Please. Have you seen the way he looks at you?”

Hours in the Moonlight: Persevering Afterlight - 2. A Lion's Den
Summary: You’d known that going into a vampire clan’s headquarters for the first time would be daunting, but in no way had you expected to find yourself likening it to a lion’s den. Much less when you’d wholly forgotten to prepare yourself to face one vampire in particular whom you’ve already met.

I inhaled softly as I followed Sam up towards the massive building that apparently housed the Savanaclaw clan. It was huge, but then Rook had said that the Savanaclaw clan was the largest.
I looked towards Sam, not sure whether I was supposed to wait for further instruction as he continued walking forward in the most nonchalant manner possible. He stopped short of the door as it creaked open, revealing an impossibly tall vampire with large horns that immediately called a moose to mind.
I stared in surprise as the vampire glanced between me and Sam, his eyes narrowing warily, before his gaze finally came to rest on Sam.
“We’re here to see your clan’s leader,” If Sam was surprised by the sight of the man, he didn’t show it in the friendly smile he wore or the easy tone he used.
The man shifted slightly, his eyes flickering back to where I stood and resting on me for a moment before he at last looked back down at Sam, “He’s away on business.”
It was a stiff tone that was both unwelcoming and uncomfortable, as it made it painfully obvious that we were not welcome.
I faltered slightly, not sure of what to do since I’d expected them to let us in immediately simply because Sam worked under Crowley. Or so I assumed he did…..
Sam was perfectly at odds with me, utterly unconcerned with the obvious lack of welcome, “Then take us to see his second. I’ve brought the Hunter to discuss business.”
I watched as the man stiffened as soon as the word ‘Hunter’ left Sam’s mouth and his gaze darted back to where I stood, doing my best to look as unassuming as possible.
I far preferred the idea of keeping my status as Hunter as quiet as possible, though I’d doubted that would be possible after Sam announced me as the new Hunter just last night. I could only assume that this fellow hadn’t been there.
But the use of my job title worked like magic, and the man was hurriedly stepping to the side, gesturing towards the door with a nervous chuckle, “Of course, right this way.”
Sam glanced back, winking at me from over his shoulder, before he followed the other man into the long hallway that led deep into the building.
The mansion appeared to be entirely made out of stone, with large African-printed rugs and numerous plants dotting the corridors. When I pictured a vampire mansion, this certainly wasn’t the gothic monstrosity I imagined. But I could hardly complain about the decor when I was distracted by the way people parted like the red sea around us.
Notably, each vampire I saw seemed to have a different set of animal attributes, confirming the idea that the members of this clan were afflicted by both vampirism and wereism.
“It’s more common to be affected by both diseases than you’d think.” I jolted slightly at Sam’s hushed words as he slowed his pace so that we were walking side by side instead of me trailing along behind him.
He looked towards me knowingly, and I swallowed thickly, wondering if it was that obvious that I knew so little about the varying clans.
All I actually knew was what Vil and Rook had been able to tell me. But Vil had always done his best to avoid the clans and remain unaffiliated until forming the Pomefiore clan, while Rook had only ever met with clan heads when they informed him of a member who’d lost themselves to the insanity of vampirism.
I was woefully underprepared to be working directly with the clans, despite the fact that seemed to be what Crowley expected of me.
“The people of the Savanaclaw clan are incredibly persistent, and their tenacity is probably the only thing that got them through being turned into vampires when they were already werebeasts.” I listened carefully to Sam’s soft words, nodding slightly as I tried to glean as much information as possible.
“Who’re our guests, Bruce?” Both me and Sam looked up at the sound of a voice that rang out over the whispers of the vampires surrounding us. Bouncing around the stone hall so that it could be clearly heard for the hushed murmur that had surrounded us up until now.
I had to glance around a couple of times though to finally spot the speaker, a smaller man who had large, soft-looking ears and wide grey-blue eyes. He was propped up against a wall beside a closed door but looked towards us with a relaxed smile, despite the way his eyes lingered on us in a way that I could only describe as clever.
“Ah, this man brought the Hunter with him… He said he wants to talk to business,” Our guide, whom I now knew was named Bruce, straightened at the sight of the smaller man.
“The new Hunter…” I watched as the shorter man’s eyes slid over to where I stood, narrowing slightly as they briefly landed on me. And I realized that there was something about his expression that made me want to tense, because there was something there that told me this young man might be far more dangerous than the larger members of this clan who currently surrounded us.
And then, like a cloud passing over the moon, his expression disappeared and was replaced with a friendly smile as he pushed off the wall and walked over, holding out his hand, “Pleasure to meet you; I’m Ruggie.”
I blinked in surprise, briefly wondering if I’d completely imagined his previous expression and ignoring the way his eyes rested a little too heavily on me as I accepted his hand and shook it, “Y/n… It’s nice to meet you.”
His gaze stayed on me for just a moment longer, something flickering through his eyes. Something that I recognized from other vampires. It was akin to surprise. A hungry but pleasantly pleased surprise, as I thought of it. Like the one a person felt when they were hungry and opened the door and smelled freshly baked bread that they hadn’t been expecting.
As I watched Ruggie’s gaze slide over to Sam as he withdrew his hand, I frowned to myself. He may not appear as initially threatening, but I still had the lingering feeling that there was far more to Ruggie than one might initially think.
Especially since he seemed to be the only one here who looked at Sam like he was someone of importance.
“I’ll let the boss know you're here,” Ruggie turned away in an almost carefree manner as he opened the door and poked his head in.
“Leona! You’ve got visitors!” There was almost something mocking in the way he called out the name that had me tensing the very instant I recognized it.
Leona…. How had I not put two and two together?
That was the name Rook had given for the brother of the Savannaclaw clan’s head and the name he called that leonine vampire who’d been present when I’d killed that monkey-like vampire when I’d made my debut.
Ruggie looked back at us, his eyes finding mine as a sharp-toothed grin slid onto his face, “Right this way, you two. He’s right in here.”
He gestured through the doorway, and somehow it almost felt like a warning and a threat all at once.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I weren’t for that fact that I was about to be dealing with the man who’d seen me flounder around during my debut in my official capacity as the Hunter. Because the fact this was going to be him, meant I wasn’t going to be able to just coast through on the fear factor of being the Hunter.
Sam glanced at me, his eyebrows raising slightly, before I forced myself to start walking forward. Pretending like nothing was amiss.
I couldn’t make myself look weak or unprepared in front of a horde of vampires. Especially when one of them would no doubt be reporting back to Crowley about how I handled all of this.
Sam didn’t seem like a bad guy, but that didn’t mean I could wholly trust him. Not when, so far as I could tell, he worked for Crowley, who was holding my safety over my head as a means to make me do what he wanted.
I walked past Ruggie, who was snickering slightly, like he knew exactly how nervous I was as I passed through the door. And I immediately locked eyes with those same bright green eyes that I recalled from that not-so-distant night that felt like it had been eons ago. But then I somehow doubted I would ever be able to totally forget those eyes.
And the very instant I saw the recognition flicker in his gaze, I felt exactly like I’d just walked, unprepared, into a lion’s den.
“Leona, allow me to introduce the new Hunter. This is Y/n L/n,” I fought not to grimace as Sam introduced me with a smile while I stared with no small amount of worry at Leona who raised his eyebrows at me.
I could only hope he wouldn’t spill the beans about having been there at my debut and how unprepared I’d been since I had no idea what that would mean in regards to my situation with Crowley.
If I were lucky, the masked vampire would just drop me like a hot potato, but something told me that wouldn’t be the case, and getting in trouble with a vampire whom even Vil was wary of hardly seemed like the best decision.
But then, praying that this man would play along and not reveal that he knew me didn’t seem like a terribly bright idea either. But here I stood, praying for exactly that.
It felt like seconds were creeping by until he snorted and dragged his gaze away from me to look towards Sam, “I saw them last night, when you announced them.” I almost breathed a sigh of relief when the leonine vampire spoke. His tone filled with an almost impressive amount of indifference.
“But you aren’t here just to introduce me to the new Hunter. Are you, Sam?” The vampire leaned forward, a smirk creeping onto his face as he eyed the other vampire, who stood next to me as the door clicked shut behind us. Sealing me in to witness all of whatever was about to happen.
Sam’s grin didn’t waver as he shook his head, “No, I’m not. I’m here because Crowley sent me.” He stepped forward, tilting his head in a way that made light shine in a strangely ominous fashion across his bright pink eyes in the otherwise dim room, “You see Y/n here is also working under him.”
Leona leaned back against the pillows on the bed upon which he was reclined, his gaze becoming shuttered, his gaze barely flickering my way, “Oh?”
The word rolled out of him in an easy, unimpressed sort of manner. Making him appear as if he had no reason to be concerned about Crowley’s involvement in all of this, even though I knew Crowley was in charge of all of the clans in this area. Including the Savanaclaw Clan.
Sam nodded, but said no more, and I took that as my cue and stepped forward. Doing my best to ignore my past meeting with this man as I obediently rattled off my job description: “I have been asked to evaluate each of the clans, starting with Savanaclaw. I intend to find out what is causing so many vampires to lose themselves to insanity.”
Leona’s gaze rested on me, a hint of what seemed to be amusement present in his eyes as he stared at me before he looked back towards Sam. Waiting.
Seemingly aware of what he wanted, Sam nodded. Confirming my words with a simple motion and causing me to frown.
I knew that dealing with Leona, the man who’d seen exactly how poorly prepared I was for all of this, would be difficult. Especially since everyone was behaving as if, as the Hunter, I was someone to be feared and respected. Not the sort of person who would flounder while trying to dispatch a vampire and have to rely on another vampire who’d just happened to show up to help do the deed.
Though admittedly, that entire situation would have gone better if it hadn’t been for this man’s surprise entrance while I was dealing with the vampire I’d… ‘handled’ that night.
Nonetheless, it was still annoying to know that he would hardly even deign to accept anything I said without getting it confirmed by someone else. Almost like I was a child whose words couldn’t be trusted until their parents confirmed everything that had been said.
But through it all, Sam had been watching closely. More closely than I’d initially thought.
“Well, I’ve done my job now and have other things to handle,” He inclined his head towards Leona before looking towards me with a hand landing on my shoulder. There was a glimmer in his eyes as he turned and started to walk by me, his voice dropping to an almost imperceptible whisper, “It was a pleasure meeting you, Little Imp. I look forward to hearing of your success.”
They were words that reminded me of the wish for good luck he’d offered me both when I’d first stepped into the ball and just before I'd formally met Crowley. It made me wonder why he kept being so supportive as I watched him leave in slight surprise. Feeling out of my depth, abandoned, and incredibly confused.
The door clicked shut mercilessly behind him though, leaving me alone with a vampire who now looked at me with unconcealed amusement.

Vampire!Sam x Chubby!Human!Reader x Werewolf!Girlcock!Tory
Sweet Reader having no idea that they're fighting over her at first. She just thinks they don't like each other and that's it, but as she keeps spending more time with them separately, she realizes her feelings for both of them and their feelings for her. And whenever they get around each other, they're insulting one another.
Sam calls Tory a filthy smelly dog and Tory calls Sam a pale no good blood sucker. I don't know if Reader knows they're not human yet. But yeah, they like insulting each other whenever they get the chance.
But Tory also gets on Sam's last nerve telling her that once she and Reader are together, she's gonna give Reader a pup. It drives Sam batty and Tory just smirks about it.
Sam hates Tory's bragging about breeding Reader and "being able to properly satisfy her" as if she knows what Sam can do. Sam knows she can pleasure Reader just as well as Tory could.

Hours in the Moonlight: Guileful Nightfall - 2. An Oddity
Summary: Warm, welcoming, and friendly. They certainly weren’t words that came to mind when you imagined a vampire clan, but they did fit your initial interactions with the Scarabia clan. That didn’t make it any less odd though, and it left you wondering what you should expect from your time evaluating them.

Sam waltzed up to the main doorway, two glass double doors etched with an intricate water lotus design, without a care in the world before politely knocking and waiting.
I shifted awkwardly as I waited next to him until a young man appeared at the door and let us in.
He smiled warmly as he tilted his head full of fluffy, purple locks, his gaze resting heavily on me even as he spoke to Sam, “Ah, Mr. Sam, please come in! Who’s your guest?”
Sam smiled at the boy, ever-charming as he slipped through the door and gestured to me with one hand, “This is Y/n. They’re working with me. Is Kalim in? We need to speak with him.”
The young man nodded, seemingly unconcerned with the fact that two people from the head-vampire were here as he gestured up a staircase that led out of the lavishly decorated lobby that looked like something out of a movie set for a Bollywood movie, “Of course! He’s with Jamil right now, but he can go ahead and see you.”
We trailed along behind him, and I glanced awkwardly over at Sam, who didn’t seem to be finding anything odd despite how out of my depth I felt.
I’d been expecting a more cold reception like what we’d received at the Savanaclaw clan. But instead, everyone here seemed happy and utterly welcoming.
They regarded us with friendly curiosity, though I couldn’t deny that a few of the stares lingered on me a little bit too long for my taste.
I could hear cheery laughter echoing down the hallway in the direction that the young man led us, and Sam leaned over towards me, his voice dropping to a whisper, “Brace yourself, Little Imp.”
Startled, I looked over his way only for him to lean away as our guide came to a halt in front of a door, “Clan Leader?”
The young man called into the room, and the laughter trailed off only to be followed by a joyful call of the name I assumed belonged to the young man in front of us, “Bakkar! I told you, just call me Kalim.”
It was a joyful tone that had me looking towards Sam yet again with steadily growing confusion as the young man in front of us laughed good-naturedly, “Of course. You have some visitors, though. Mr. Sam has come.”
The moment the young man stepped to the side, another, white-haired fellow with bright red eyes appeared. A brilliant smile on his tanned face as he looked between the two of us, “Sam! Come in, what do you need?”
I blinked at the young man, startled by how purely cheerful he was as I followed Sam into the room, waving awkwardly at ‘Bakkar’ as he walked off with a polite smile and nod of his head.
I hurriedly turned my attention to the people remaining in the room as Sam began to speak, gesturing to me with a smile, “This is Y/n L/n. You may remember them from the ball?”
I could now see a secondary man as well. One with an impressively attractive face and long hair who gazed at me with a pointed expression before nodding and speaking in an impressively even-sounding voice, “The new Hunter. Yes.”
Sam nodded as the first one smilingly looked my way. As if the news that I was a vampire hunter was no more distressing than the idea of me being a baker.
Definitely different from the reactions that my identity as the Hunter had gotten up until now.
Sam continued though, casually introducing me to the two men as he gestured first to the cheerful white-haired one and then to the taller, dark haired one, “This is Kalim and Jamil. They’re the founders of this clan.”
I nodded, smiling awkwardly at the first young man, whose grin only seemed to spread more when I smiled at him as Sam continued, “Y/n works under Crowley, and they’re going to be coming by every day so they can evaluate the Scarabia clan.”
At odds with the personification of sunshine that was eagerly nodding along to Sam’s words, the longer haired one, Jamil, frowned, “Why are we being evaluated? Is something going on?”
His gaze darted warily between me and Sam, and I glanced over only to see Sam looking at me with a smile. Apparently leaving it up to me to handle the rest of the explanation.
I stepped forward, doing my best to sum up the situation in a way that was as untroubling as possible: “Crowley is concerned about the recent surge in insane vampires, so he’s having me evaluate all of the clans. It’s no real cause for concern. I’m just going to look for any clues as to what might be going on.”
The one frowned, obviously ready to say something only for the happier one, Kalim, to spring forward, “Of course! If it’ll make your job any easier, you can even stay here while you check everything out! We’re having a feast tonight after all!”
I blinked in silent surprise at his words and Sam laughed, patting me on the shoulder, “Well, you three get it all sorted out. I’ve got to go, so it's in your hands Y/n.”
I turned, barely keeping myself from gaping like a fish out of water as Sam walked out of the room with a relaxed wave tossed over his shoulder as he abandoned me to one impressively extroverted persona and his wary companion.
I felt a hand tap my shoulder, and I twisted to see Kalim smiling at me, “Don’t worry, Y/n. You’ll like it here! Jamil’s a great cook, and everyone here is nice.”
He beamed at me like a tiny sun as his companion gave a sigh of long-suffering, “Kalim, they haven’t agreed to stay here yet.”
I watched as Kalim blinked slightly before letting out a carefree laugh that had me smiling slightly despite myself, “That’s right. You really ought to stay for supper though. It’s bound to be delicious with Jamil handling everything.”
I faltered slightly at his second mention of a feast. What would a vampire feast even be? The very idea of one called to mind the image of a gothic atmosphere with candles and goblets filled with blood, but somehow, even though I’d only just met him, I couldn’t picture Kalim in such a place.
Jamil shook his head with a sigh before looking my way as he crossed his arms, “Since you’re going to be evaluating us, I’ll show you around the clan. You can decide what you want to do about staying during the tour. Kalim-”
I watched the shorter man perk up almost immediately at the sound of his name, reminding me distinctly of a puppy in the way he looked towards the other man with sparkling eyes.
“Stay here,” Despite the blunt tone Jamil delivered his orders in, Kalim seemed unbothered. Chuckling slightly before nodding. Saying he’d be waiting for us to get back as if nothing could ever dampen his spirit.
But even then I found myself growing still more confused. So far, the Scarabia clan was wildly different from what I’d seen of the other clans.
They were welcoming, warm, and beyond friendly, and, despite being the supposed leader of the clan, Kalim did not seem to be in charge. Rather, Jamil seemed to be the one making decisions and issuing orders.
I followed Jamil out of the room though, waving back at Kalim when he waved at me cheerfully, beaming all the while and making me wish ever so slightly that he were my guide rather than Jamil, who, at the very least, seemed like a better fit for what I’d expected since he seemed at least slightly wary.
I truly didn’t know what to make of Kalim, who hadn’t been phased by the fact I was the local Hunter, though.
While it was a nice change of pace for him to have been so unbothered by it, it was also very strange. After all, while I didn’t necessarily like it, it did make more sense to avoid and be wary of someone who essentially amounted to being an executioner.
Especially when said executioner had been sent in to evaluate your clan.
It was fairly obvious that Crowley meant this as some sort of warning to the clans. Like he was telling them that if they were discovered to be the root of the insanity issue, they should know what to expect.
But at least now I sort of knew what Sam had meant when he told me to brace myself. It wasn’t what I’d expected by any means. In fact, rather than a warning about aggression or something like that, it had been a heads-up to brace myself for what might be the most confusing clan I dealt with.
Because while this was really only the third clan I’d interacted with, something told me that this sort of welcome was an oddity.
