hello gamers. and mushroom lovers.

I'll go ahead and start this blog with what is probably the most well known video game mushroom, the Super Mushroom from Mario Bros!

The real-life counterpart for this mushrooms (as well as for almost any red and white mushroom) is Amanita Muscaria, also known as the Fly Agaric.

This mushroom is one of the most well known mushrooms ever. It grows in the wild on every continent except for Antarctica. Its fruiting bodies start to appear in autumn or early winter, depending on local climates. It can be identified by its rounded red cap with irregularly-shaped white spots. Although its appearance is fairly unique, it is important to keep in mind that the Amanita genus contains several species which look similar to A. muscaria, such as A. parcivolvata, A. persicina, and A. rubrovolvata.

Unlike its depiction in the Mario franchise, these Amanitas should usually not be consumed, as they are known to be very toxic. There are techniques to make them more edible, however these are not very commonly used. In addition to its toxicity, these mushrooms are also psychoactive, and are sometimes used for recreational/spiritual purposes. It should be noted that the effects of Amanita Muscaria differ from that of psilocybin-containing "magic mushrooms," although they are sometimes marketed as a legal alternative.

Although not commonly eaten, this mushroom still has a wide variety of other uses. Amanitas have long been associated with folklore and mystical settings, and as such depictions of them are widespread in decor with fantastical design elements. In some regions, the mushrooms are traditionally used to create fly traps. This use is the origin of the name "Fly Agaric"

With its distinct appearance and wide range, this mushroom is well-liked among most, and rightfully so. Its unique properties make it a stand-out specimen of a 'shroom! While it won't make you grow any larger, learning about it can certainly grow your appreciation for the wonderful world of mycology. egon - spores molds and fungus (mycology)

I think he probably got his cutiemark when he was a foal, the novelization of the first two movies leads me to believe that egon was very cemented in what he liked from an early age - so when he started collecting his spores, molds, and fungus he gained his cutiemark in mycology! it could also just be interpreted as a plain old talent in sciences but I like mycology for him

peter - zener cards

pete's cutiemark is zener cards! a type of card used to study the probability of esp and telepathy, peter uses these in the first scene we ever see him in and it's less so that his special talent is esp or telepathy and more so being sleazy and street-smart because of how he uses them in the scene he's introduced in - he probably got it in high school or college

winston - fighter jet shark mouth paint

winston's cutie mark is the shark mouths you can see on old fighter jets! my main reason for this is that in the novelization and original script for the movie, winston was stated to be an ex-member of the air force, so I wanted his cutiemark to reflect flying in a sort of way (also why he's a pegasus) - probably got it as a young foal when he discovered that he liked to fly and do airshows (he became a wonderbolt when he was younger)

ray - occult books

ray's cutiemark is a direct call to his bookstore (ray's occult books) but also the fact that he loves to study the paranormal and supernatural, he probably also got it as a young foal!

janine - phone

janine's is kind of my most uninspired? she's a secretary so I figured it should be a phone since that's her... job - but it also doubles as a fact that she LOVES to gossip, in the ghostbusters video game if you stand around in the firehouse for long enough you can hear her gossip over the phones, she probably got it at an older age.

phoebe - ghost trap & safety goggles

phoebe's cutiemark is mostly inspired by her supposed love of engineering! when we see her for the first time she's tinkering with the electricity in the spengler apartment in chicago, but I think she would've gotten her cutiemark in summerville - specifically when egon leads her to the ghost trap he had hidden under the floorboards.

trevor - racing flags

so with trevor, I wanted his cutiemark to be related to cars in some way! as that seems to be a major interest to him (wears car shirts constantly, knows how to drive and fix up the ecto) - since there aren't exactly ... cars in my little pony, more so carriages, I wanted to show that he likes to race, because as soon as that boy gets the ecto up and running he's speeding through a barley field - he probably got it at maybe middle school age?

podcast - recording equipment + headphones

podcast's cutiemark relates to his.. podcast - I couldn't think of anything else since his name is literally just podcast, but I'm sure it could be interpreted in another way; he probably got it when he started mystical tales of the unknown universe.

lucky - golden four leaf clovers

so, lucky's is probably the most based on her name instead of anything relating to her character, golden four leaf clovers to symbolize luck - don't know when she would've gotten them, maybe as a younger foal.

Being in a team of 1 means I get to name the centrifuge in the bacteriology lab ‘Barcus Wroot’ to go along with the video game theme I started with the TB and mycology BSCs (named ‘Red Dead Redemption’ and ‘The Last of Us’ respectively) and there’s no one to stop me

So, I saw your twst isekai idea post, and had IDEAS!

so I'm not super familiar with most of those series/fandoms, BUT...

What came to mind for me was Stardew Valley (since it's been on my mind recently). I don't know how familiar you are with the game, but I think that if he was isekai'd there, Jade would THRIVE as a farmer! I mean, he's got a green thumb and knows about plants. There's a mountain (with a mine), plenty of local flora to forage, and a possibility for a MUSHROOM CAVE on the farm. He'd LOVE IT!! Plus, the people in town are incredibly interesting - he'd never get bored there. And he's sketchy clever and resourceful enough to know how to get what he wants. His family are suggested to also be 'businesspeople', after all :)

Epel would also do just fine there, obviously. He already comes from a farming family, so I imagine he'd do a good job setting up an orchard in Stardew Valley.

On the other hand, I think that Idia would STRUGGLE in that situation. He's very clever, but NOT GOOD with new people, or much manual labour. And unless he already knew about gardening/farming/foraging/fishing/etc. from a game or series, he'd probably be totally lost on how to manage. (It would probably be pretty funny for us, but very stressful for him.)

AND YESS FARMER JADE!!! OMG HE WOULD PROBABLY MAKE THE MUSHROOM CAVE HIMSELF BEFORE DEMETRIUS EVEN THINKS ABOUT SUGGESTING IT TO HIM!

Just,,, Demetrius showing up at Jade's house and being all 'hello I could set up a mushroom cave for you if you want' and Jade showing off his already thriving mushroom colonies completely filling the space lmao. I wonder if they'd be mycology buddies with how Demetrius is a biologist (iirc)

He'd love to forage in the surrounding areas and hike around the forests - and fishing! I remember him being super passionate about everything in the Camp Vargas stories he was in and I just love how he can get so happy when he's able to indulge in his interests.

(I wonder if he would mess with some of the villagers by swimming in the ocean in his merform... I may end up shipping him with Elliott if I think about that too much - typical bachelor on the beach falls for the mysterious merperson in the ocean typa story idk my brain is running away from me haha)

EPEL WITH AN ORCHARD YES!

He would be in his element! I can imagine him with expertise from what his family taught him on his farm - how to selectively breed plants to make the best produce, how to graft two parts of heirloom species of plants together to get the best traits from both (like the roots from a tomato plant bred to resist root diseases and the stem from a plant that produces large, delicious fruits! I've seen a video about it and it was really cool lol)

And he has the type of face and vibe that I feel like would make older ladies fawn over him a little if that makes sense? Like Marnie, Caroline, and Jodi - their group. Like, he's polite because of his time with Vil, he's quite short and has a boyish face, he's hardworking etc. I can see him receiving cookies from Evelyn and stuff like that.

I'd say that he'd get along with Sebastian but I doubt that they'd end up meeting with how neither of them really go outside (I know from waiting outside Sebastian's door before I thought to look up his schedule online haha)

Idia's internal dialogue would probably be an absolute disaster haha - he is NOT built for this environment! There's too much focus on socialisation! And his noodly gamer arms cannot do farming! He would be having a Bad Time and it would definitely be funny to watch it pan out haha

At least there's a chance that he could have some meta knowledge due to the fact that he's a gamer. Maybe it'll be exactly like some sorta game from Twisted Wonderland called 'SunMist Hollow' (I just searched synonyms for that haha)

The Mycology of AC Valhalla

Sketches of all the interactable fungi in ACV, with their in game and IRL counterparts (for the fungi I see locally.)

Been going through my video game botany drawings. Thinking of collecting these sketches, making 3 more of non-interactable common fungi we see in ACV - tinder fungus, turkey tails, birch polypore - & putting them in a zine. (I've been going through my 'moths of Ravensthorpe' drawings too. Getting my 💩 together so I can finally take these zines to my next fair!)

If I can do 8 fungi I can easily make a zine with fungi art on one side and some species info on the other.

Came up with an update in my third Spengler kid: meet Eugene Melnitz Spengler (whose face cast is Daryl Sabara from Spy Kids fame).

In the IDW Comics, Egon had a college friend named Eugene Visitor who sacrificed himself to save New York from a fusion of ghosts, and I thought it would be nice if Egon homaged his deceased friend by naming his youngest son after him.

Daryl Sabara was born in 1992, so I put Eugene Melnitz Spengler to be born in the same year.

Janine, his siblings Noemi and Tobin and his GHOSTBUSTER UNCLES call Eugene 'Gene', while Egon calls him Eugene, because he doesn't see much sense in abreviating.

So the interests I gave to my Spengler kids are these: Noemi is the expert in Supernatural Folklore and History, Tobin is the enthusiast for Botanics, Mycology and Cooking, and Eugene is the Computers and Video Games geek with a strategic quicky tought

I'd say I'm a pretty nerdy person, most of my interests fall in the nerd stereotype. I'm really into tabletops (D&D, MoTW, VTM, etc.), I currently play in 4 campaigns! I'm playing very support based characters right now!! That being said, I love reading and learning new systems. Video games also go in hand with my love for ttrpgs. I love story based games.

I'm also studying botany and entomology! I'm considering branching more into mycology. I spend most of my time occupied with school related things. When I'm free, I usually try and keep myself busy. I have a bad tendency of overworking myself and find it really hard to actually take time to myself.

You both met over D&D, you, a few friends, and a few of their friends joined up on Discord to play D&D online since most of you were either too far to drive to a specific spot to play, or just didn't want to go through the hassle of making an actual board.

Yan!Gamer was introduced to you from one of your friends, they met over COD and eventually clicked, becoming close friends leading him to joining this little group. You both enjoyed talking and you both eventually grew closer. You knew how he was, how he looked and how disorganized and trashed his house was, though to you it didn't matter much since you both were long distanced, you did try to encourage him to clean up though.

He loves hearing you rant about things you enjoy, books, videogames, your interest in your studies, all of it. Every time you go to school, he searches up about things you've told him your interested in, wanting in on your ranting. He saw how you acted when he knew a little about a game you liked, the wide smile on your face behind the screen as he told you what he knew. He wanted to see you happy, happy he knows about your likes.

He makes you sleep with him on call, he doesn't want to keep you up too much due to school but every weekend he asks you to read him a chapter of your favorite book, falling asleep and soothed by your voice. You're basically the only reason why he has a good sleep schedule.

If you move in, before you do he's absolutely on it, trying to clean up everything and anything, even the smallest things. His house looked cleaner than it ever did, despite the mountain of trash bags sitting outside on the lawn, waiting for it to be taken away by the local trash company. He also made sure to take a shower, despite his dislike for the water, he does an everything shower, using all of the soaps he has. He also decides to order some star patches for his acne, plopping them on the red bumps on his face. He thought he looked quite cool!!

He tries to maintane himself when your around, same with his house. You guys play games together and read together, you both even got a cat! He normally helps you afterschool with school work (he searches it up), and he cuddles you whenever you're relaxing. I believe you would turn Yan!Gamer around quite a lot!
