The Best Audience in the World 🎻

This is the boy’s first concert in front of a live audience. And what an audience it is—don’t you think? 🐈 🐿️🐩

Yesterday, I used the Violin Kid’s headpiece for a meditating Lloyd, which gave me the idea to use this minifigure for another scene. I wanted to recreate one of my older photos where a kid plays the violin in front of animals, but this time, holding the violin by the neck instead of underneath.

Of course, this required shooting from the right angle—from above—to ensure the separated pieces weren’t visible. I think it turned out well. How do you like it? 🙂

Description

Judith Leyster’s Self-Portrait exudes self-confidence in her abilities, and it has become one of the National Gallery of Art’s most popular Dutch paintings. Leyster has depicted herself at her easel, briefly interrupting work on a painting of a violin player to interact with the viewer. The momentary quality of the portrait and the vigorous brushwork echo the work of Frans Hals (c. 1582/1583–1666), Haarlem’s most celebrated portrait painter and Leyster’s colleague. By juxtaposing her hand holding a brush with the hand and bow of the violin player, Leyster cleverly compares the art of creating ephemeral music with the art of creating timeless paintings. She holds the tools of her trade—a palette, a cloth, and no fewer than eighteen brushes. In reality she would not have worn the elegant dress and lace-trimmed collar while at work in her studio.

August 6, 2024:

I couldn't tell if this book wanted to be silly or serious. The tone is really inconsistent when one chapter starts with family violence, survival sex work, and rape by coercion, and in the next chapter the cast of Third Rock From The Sun learns how to make donuts.

With that criticism out of the way, I struggled not to cry through the last several chapters. It's beautiful and joyful with a sad tinge on the edges. It highlights the emotion artists put into their work and makes it a more tangible thing in this world, and then it expands the idea of who is an artist and what expertise means.

It's ultimately kind, and although it acknowledges the darkness too, the kindness is much greater.

I finally got hold of the “Oppenheimer” soundtrack - and it cost me 100 Euro!

I had been looking for it since the movie’s release in the summer of 2023 but was never able to find a CD anywhere.

Who takes these decisions? Does the music industry still bother to release its “product” properly?

And it happens across the board these days - even with soundtracks of John Williams and here with this masterpiece of Ludwig Göransson. (Make no mistake: for once, the Oscars got it right!)

Ludwig’s wife Serena McKinney plays the violin solos and studio musician Steve Erdody (who recorded countless scores with John Williams) is the main cellist.

Stupidly, McKinney is called “Serena Göransson” in the booklet as if the girl doesn’t have a name of her own. Did some MAGA retard write that booklet?
