as In, what's the first one you can remember genuinely frightening or upsetting you?
There will be a second bracket for series I could not fit in this poll (Percy Jackson, Noughts and Crosses, Maximum Ride, Cherub, Mortal Engines, Artimis Fowl, Shapeshifter, Deptford Mice, Mistborn ect.)
inspired by greats like @best-childhood-book and @best-kids-media-adult, this tourney pits the literary heroines of our childhood against each other in an all out brawl, searching for the greatest girlboss in the genre. Rounds will last one week, and qualifiers start tomorrow!
RULES:
YA doesn't count as kidlit- characters should be from anything middle grade or below. This includes picture books!
Girls only! trans girls allowed/terfs explode ect, you know the drill.
Comic books/graphic novels allowed, but still should be kidlit! For example, a character from Hildafolk would be allowed, but a character from the Sandman wouldn't.
Side and minor characters allowed
Characters don't have to be human but they do have to have to be girls. Sometimes a girl is also a computer or a train or an alien or something, and that's cool too!
No harry potter characters.
Bracket will be capped at either 32 or 64 characters depending on submission numbers, and then be determined by popularity.
Maximum 2-3 characters per series/fandom/author. If I get more I'll run qualifiers, because I know some have basically infinite characters- looking at you, Warrior Cats & Rainbow Magic.
things that were books first will be favoured over novelisations of movies, games, ect.
Everybody have fun!

i may have had a slight Tism moment and proxied steins;gate magic cards based off the doctor who sets
i have literally spent one full week working on this and i just finished it today. i feel suitably deranged
shout-out to my gf @cecelica for doing her own version which she calls "maho and moeka take on the New USSR with giant robots" which is literally just what it sounds like on the tin. she puts amadeus into mechs, it's incredibly chaotic
i think im physically incapable of engaging with mtg in any normal way 🧍
I’m curious about stuff again specifically for people who like to read.
I put both girls and boys just to see if there’s a difference. And if you are trans or genderqueer please do think as to what gender you considered yourself at the age you started reading and not your current chosen gender.
I constantly think about the Redwall animated series (1999) and Watership animated series (1999)
When I re-watch those I wonder what Warrior Cats would've been like if they had an animated series in that similar style and vain. How much would actually changed?
Watership Down the series added a lot of newer conflicts, characters, pretty much this series exclusive things and their own twists to the story. Follows the story in the beginning and then it gets wild!
I should make a retrospective on these two series.
Redwall animated series pretty much follows the story where season 1 follows Matthias, Season 2 follows Mattimeo, and Season 3 follows Martin the Warrior.
But I was an idiot and I watched the series backwards from Martin, to Matthias, to Mattimeo. Still got the same enjoyment either way.
It'd make a fun exercise. Creating short animations of canon Warriors in similar style of these two already pretty fun to watch animated series of great books.
Might be actually pretty heckin' fun! I can feel the gears in my mind turning just trying to create this and make it come to life!
So which one of you guys read and watched The Silver Brumby on YouTube? I never got far but what are your thoughts? I never actually well.. fully finished but, as far as I seen it's pretty nice lol
Had multiple conversations with people establishing that I'm pretty much the only person I know who has read these books and not turned out to be a furry, so I want to find out if I'm in denial or not
"He tries to be cool but in a lot of the dialogue he comes across as a bit of a dork. He get's regualrly beat up by his ex girlfriend who works for his dad. Immortal but he once died by slipping on a banana peel, can buy a set of unflitable weights and somehow bring them to his room but can't pick them up after. He had a brief period working in the accounting departement of his dad's house but was fired. He likes fishing."
The Luidaeg (October Daye)
"The Luidaeg is a tired and cranky witch who is bound by far too many curses and suffered far too many losses, but she still cares deeply for her family and she deserves the world."
Lord Foog the 2st
"Looks trustworthy, very regal, can’t be worse at governing than current British government"
Arthur Dent (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
"1. His name is Arthur and he's English 2. After the Vogons destroy the earth to make room for a new hyperspace express route, he is literally the only English person in existence which would, presumably, make him King Arthur by default."
Firestar (Warrior Cats)
"Firestar is a leader of a clan, he has quite a few older characters that could fill out the Merlin role, while he doesn't necessarily own a sword but the religion of the Clans granted him the ability to have access to multiple lives if he just so happened to die on accident!"
Martin the Warrior (Redwall)
"A wandering warrior who makes his fame conquering tyrannical despots with his iconic meteor-iron sword. His Guinevere didn’t cheat but she died and left him grief stricken. After he retires he founds a monastery which is the central location of the book series and his spirit haunts it/his sword for centuries, choosing heirs to defend it and drive out evil. Also, he is a mouse"
Been listening to all the redwall books again. In chronological order, this time.
Every time some beast talks about "Our Guiding Spirit" in all of his saintly, austere, purity, I am reminded (to the tune of a Yakety-Sax esque mental montage) of how unhinged Martin the Warrior was when he lived.
