So you saw fell in love with Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon and now you want her on your screen as much as possible? I’m here to help.
Tumblr media
Certain Women directed by Kelly Reichardt
This was the first time I saw Lily Gladstone in anything and I screamed about her specifically for days. The film is segmented into three stories about women living in the northwestern plains region of the US. All three segments are good, but Lily Gladstone’s is by far my favorite. She plays a ranch hand who starts sitting in on a night school law class when she develops a crush on the teacher, played by (bonus!) Kristen Stewart.
Certain Women is streaming on The Criterion Channel, AMC+, and Kanopy (Kanopy is free!). It is also available to rent on the major platforms.
Tumblr media
The Unknown Country directed by Morrisa Maltz
This movie is stunning. Think Nomadland but even more stripped down. Lily Gladstone plays a character on a roadtrip to reunite with her estranged family after the death of her grandmother. Along the way she tries to learn more about who her grandmother was in life and reconnect with her memory. A lot of the film is unscripted, and breathtaking shots of the western US landscape punctuate the brief encounters she has at each stop on her journey.
The Unknown Country is available to rent on the major platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon, and YouTube.
Tumblr media
Quantum Cowboys directed by Geoff Marslett
This one’s for the multiverse fans. A really fun romp that might make your head hurt if you think about it too hard. Lily Gladstone plays a character in the 1870’s southwest who encounters a pair of travelers stuck in a time loop (sort of). She enlists their help (sort of) in a plan to recover land that was taken from her and in return helps them in their attempt to break their cycle. Most of the film is rotoscope animation, so it’s a completely different type of a performance from Lily Gladstone. I had the extraordinary luck of meeting her at a festival screening last year and they said it was such a fun deviation from their usual hyper realistic work.
Quantum Cowboys is available to rent on major platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon, and YouTube.
Tumblr media
Fancy Dance directed by Erica Tremblay
The most recent Lily Gladstone film to blow me away, and maybe my favorite film of 2023. Lily Gladstone plays a character who has been trying to find her missing sister while simultaneously providing care for her sister’s daughter. When it appears she may lose custody, the two hit the road to search for the teen’s mother. It’s sad and sweet and beautiful. I have to warn that the subject matter is heavy and all too real but that’s why it’s an important story. It’s about something that is so pervasive, yet people outside of the community affected turn a blind eye to it.
Fancy Dance can be seen in select theaters and is now streaming on Apple TV+. Erica Tremblay previously directed Lily Gladstone in the short film Little Chief, which can be found on Vimeo.

Here's the reasons why I don't connect well with Loumand in the book :
Tumblr media
So one of them is because Louis never even once admitted to Lestat or Claudia so ruthlessly that he loved Lestat and suddenly with Armand he became more free in love & more open , I don't think it was because Armand listened to him or understood him better because there are some parts of iwtv book where Lestat was capable of those yet Louis thought it was manipulation 🙄 . Why didn't he ever think the same about Armand ? 😏 The answer is simple because Armand didn't exactly shown his mind powers to Louis yet . And even when he told Louis he did that & he used it on Louis to make him turn Madeline Louis still forgave him ??? And just asked not to do it again ! And Armand didn't do it ? 😏 What makes us sure he didn't ? Cause there are two sentences which showed he most probably did use it again . 1. " Go to sleep Louis " after Louis burnt the theater & wanted to escape Paris & 2. When he admitted that when he heard Lestat survived he said this :
Tumblr media
While it is true that Armand might have kept the fact that Lestat was alive from Louis to protect him it is also worth mentioning Armand does many manipulative things to help the people he loved too . Armand is able to read anyone's mind & if he had read Louis's he must've known if Lestat being alive will make Louis feel anything or not , right ? And why didn't he tell Lestat about Louis being alive ? 😏 What was he protecting Lestat from ? Other than the fact that if he knew he would probably do whatever he could to find Louis again & talk to him & they would probably leave Armand again & get back together ? 😬 So no it wasn't all about protecting Louis from himself or anyone it was for himself too .
All I can think of is how numb Louis became when Claudia died & Armand & Louis kinda fell apart & just lived together because there were no other vampires who would accept them & they were both afraid of being alone & not finding anyone who could love them again as they once loved each other . In my opinion they practically stayed together out of desperation for not being alone & for Louis because he didn't have anyone else to lean on as powerful as Armand . And Armand was emotionally so obsessed with Louis & he couldn't end it easily.
Armand tried to make Louis separated with Claudia a lot he wanted Louis for himself & he didn't want to share him which in the book Lestat never tried to do . And then he orchestrated a whole show to get rid of Claudia & make Louis believe Lestat was responsible for her doom 🙄 although poor Claudia was already doomed because of Lestat's selfishness of making someone so young but let's not forget that they punished her for killing her maker & one of their kind . Another attempt of Armand to separate Louis & Lestat & let's not forget did Louis ever actually ask himself if Lestat was still in the theater or not when he burnt it down ? Yes He didn't even care at that moment he was angry & he was mourning & that can make you not think of whatever you're doing at that moment . Because later when Louis said this :
Tumblr media
Doesn't this indicate that Louis cared who was burnt in that theater ? He said I didn't really care I hadn't thought of Lestat at all the night I torched the theater . Isn't it weird to you that he thought of Santiago & Celeste but didn't really care about Lestat ? 🤔 And if he didn't then why did he burn Lestat with them ? He said he didn't hate him for Claudia's death . Don't you sense some mind power here ? 👀
And look what Louis said about Lestat being alive : I cannot convey to you the feeling that came over me when I heard this .
I mean what does that say ? Why does Louis say this ?
And one more thing if Lestat had escaped the theater who helped him escape ? He didn't escape in fact Armand had taken him again to the tower 😏 .
4. Finally this is why I don't like book Loumand . No hate on AMC Loumand what so ever because I haven't seen anything from them but if the show runners want to do the books they have to at least notice one of these flaws & voids in Louis & Armand's relationship as much as they did in Louis & Lestat's relationship . 😉

I Saw The TV Glow hit so hard for me
SPOILERS AHEAD
I went to go see it last night at my local AMC and nearly cried within the first 10 minutes. I'm a queer teenage girl who has struggled with depression and feeling just so far away from everyone else my age. This movie captures the growing up experience of someone born from the late 90s to the mid 2000s so well. I was born in 06 and even though this film is clearly set in the 90s for a majority of it, it still felt so personal. I couldn't even think as I was walking out of the theater. I just felt so heard and seen.
The first scene nearly made me cry because it brought up so much nostalgia of being in 5th to 7th grade and the huge mat/parachute thing was something we did all the time when I was in elementary and middle school. The hiding from your friends' parents, drawing with glitter gel pen on your skin, having awkward conversations with people you barely know, it all feels so reminiscent of my childhood. The scribbles of sidewalk chalk, daydreaming about escaping into your favorite stories, the books you'd read about your favorite obscure shows, the shows not being as magical as you remember once you grew up. The walking through the halls, memories flooding through your mind, ideas and whimsies just soaring through, doodling on your hands with neon pen.
This movie made me so emotional as someone who has struggled with their sexuality and not knowing what to feel.
"Do you like girls?"
"I don't know."
"Boys?"
"I think that I like TV shows."
That scene hit hard for me in a different way than was probably intended. When I was 12 and figuring out who I liked, I was so uninterested and uncomfortable with the idea of liking anyone.
There were so many scenes like that where I just knew that my personal connection to it wasn't what was intended but it still felt valid.
The scene towards the end with Owen screaming out of nowhere at the birthday party "I'M DYING RIGHT NOW!!!" but no one responds and he's still apologizing for it. That part reminded me so much of being in such a deep state of suffering that you just want to scream it out loud but no one hears.
But you still feel like it's on you.
I can't imagine how hard this must've hit for someone who is trans. I'm not trans myself but this still hit for me as a story about personal identity. Who are you and who do you want to be? What is real and what isn't? Does that matter?
I have seen Justice Smith before and he's really got a great career ahead of him. I know him from playing the video game The Quarry. It was a fantastic and terrifying game. He gives such a good and deep performance here. Owen is such a complex character and that's a testament to this performance.
I knew Bridgette Lundy-Paine from watching the show Atypical a few years ago. They were always my favorite part of that show. They are so talented and so mesmerizing in this role. I feel like I've known so many people like Maddie in my life. She reminds me a lot of my best friend from 5th grade who had an out-of-control father and found solace in weird shows and stories.
The soundtrack is incredible and I was overjoyed and very much anticipating seeing Phoebe Bridgers in this film, even if she's only in it for a few minutes. She's one of my favorite artists and her music resonates with me so much. I love that she and every artist got to collaborate on something this special.
Listening to yeule's Anthems For a Seventeen Year Old Girl as a 17 year old girl is such a personal experience. It was perfectly used for the trailer. The lyrics just slap so much.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that / Now you're all gone, got your makeup on and you're not coming back / can't you come-
Sloppy Jane and Phoebe Bridgers' Claw Machine is also amazing and so perfect.
I think I was born bored / I think was born blue / I think I was born wanting more / I think I was born already missing you
The hair and makeup and clothing on every artist was incredible. The lighting and costumes and set design is impeccable in setting the tone for this film. The visual effects are stunning and so neon, nostalgic, childlike, etc etc. It felt like a dream in the most horrifying and yet beautiful way possible.
I also feel like this movie was made for the kids who grew up watching FNAF gameplays, reading creepypastas, going down terrifying internet rabbit holes, and reading about cryptids. Like the vibes of Local 58, DHMIS, analog horror, etc. There were so many little details that reminded me of being 8-13 years old and having these obsessions which you would escape in, not being able to process reality when you stopped watching or reading. The disappointment you feel when you come back to your body and realize that it's just a story.
I'm so grateful that this film exists. This is for the neurodivergent queer/trans kids who never felt like they belonged to anything or had a place. For the kids who dreamed about being in these fictional worlds and having adventures and friends who cared, people who listened!
This is for us.
I couldn't be more excited to see what this director has in store. I watched We're All Going To The World's Fair about a year or so ago and was completely fascinated by Schoenbrun's visual style and writing. If director Jane Schoenbrun somehow comes across this post: Thank you so much for sharing your art and talent with the world. This movie has made so many people feel heard and recognized. Congratulations on this masterpiece of a film.

jumped to watching Night at the Museum immediately after finishing Mr. Peabody & Sherman and almost forgot to do my writeup on it, oops
but anyway yeah I love Mr. Peabody & Sherman! Once again I am a predictable bitch, and if you put a loving father-son relationship in your movie I am bound to fall in love with it. And when that father-son relationship is adoptive?? Just kill me now why dontcha!!!
my one real complaint with this movie, though, is that the writers really didn't know what to do with Penny after the second act and it's painful to watch, and that hint of precocious romance between her and Sherman makes me roll my eyes every time, but whatever. I don't care, I love this movie. Little 11-year-old me hyperfixated on it HARD back in 2014 and you know what, little 11-year-old me was right! This movie slaps!
also fun fact this is the first movie I can remember watching in an AMC theater. Don't know why I'm mentioning this but I am.

The Batman will be released in theaters with a special preview for The Penguin for one night only. AMC Theaters will rerelease the hit movie on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The film being back on-screen is an attempt to build some more anticipation for The Penguin television show on Max. Not much is known about what the preview would be for Penguin or how long it is. However there are reports that they will feature behind the scenes footage. How 'The Batman' Sets Up 'Penguin' It will be interesting to see how much of The Batman figures into The Penguin. In the film, "Oz" Cobblepot started out as a lieutenant for big Gotham crime lord Carmine Falcone. However, Carmine is eventually murdered by the Riddler- allowing an ambitious, power-hungry Oz to try to take over. To complicate matters, part of Gotham City is flooded when the Riddler blew up the flood levies surrounding the city. So Gotham needs to reckon with most likely being reverted back to a struggling economic state in light of the disaster. Crime will probably be rising despite Batman's best efforts. One can only hope that Penguin will take those plot threads and run with it. The show will feature Oz's struggle for the throne of Gotham's crime lord. But he needs to battle it out with Carmine's daughter Sofia Falcone.  We also know that at the very least Gotham's flooding will be referenced in the beginning of the show. Beyond that it, is unclear how much of Gotham's new status quo will be expanded upon. In any case, a theatrical rewatch of The Batman might just be the best thing to get fans into the mood for Penguin. To get tickets to The Batman rerelease, you can click the link here. The Penguin hits the Max streaming service on September 19th. Source: Superherohype.com All images maybe subject to copyright.

“Finally.” You sighed and watched the cloud from your breath be swept away in the chilling wind. “I’m here.”
Your boots sunk into the snow as you slowly trekked through the AMC’s parking lot. You stepped through the doorway of the movie theater, your frosty skin was immediately met with a sea of warmth. Reaching into your jacket pocket, you pulled out your phone and checked the time. ‘9:25, shit,’ you thought to yourself. ‘Five minutes won’t be enough time.’ You walked up to the counter in the middle of the lobby as you slid your phone back into your pocket.
The employee working at the counter seemed to be the only other person in the theater.
‘I guess going to the movie’s once the movie has already started does have its advantages.’
“Good evening,” the woman said, interrupting your train of thought. “How may I help you?”
“Good evening,” you responded. “I’d like a ticket to ‘The Black Phone’ please.”
The employee grabbed the ticket from under the counter and shuffled a few steps right to the register. She waved you over and said, “That’ll be $13.69, anything else I can get you?”
“No, ma’am. Thank you.” you answered as you took $15 out of your wallet, careful not to drop anything, and handed it to the employee.
“Enjoy your movie!” The employee kindly smiled at you as she handed you your change.
“Thank you! Have a good day!” You smiled back before you walked a few steps away and took your phone out again.
’9:27.’ the lock screen read.
‘Only three minutes, I don’t think I’m going to make the commercials,’ you thought before deciding it would be alright to miss them— after all, how could you watch the movie without getting a duck?! With that in mind, you dashed over to the arcade section of the lobby, straight to your favorite machine.
The rubber duck claw machine was your favorite game because you were always guaranteed to win. Everyone was actually— it’s impossible to lose the game. All you have to do is put in one dollar and, just like a claw machine, you maneuver the device to win your prize. The game had no timer, and won’t stop until you’ve won! All the prizes in the machine were different rubber animals; although, they were mostly rubber ducks in costumes. Since discovering the machine, you’ve made it a habit to get a rubber animal to accompany you to watch the movies.
You squatted down and fed the machine a dollar. As you stood back up the door chimed. A gust of cold wind hit your skin and sent a shiver through your spine. You glanced in that direction and saw two men walk through the door. One was slightly taller with dark brown hair. His face was flushed from the cold and he was blowing into his hands, presumably to warm himself. The other man’s hair was a lighter brown with a hardly noticeable red tint to it. As if he could sense your gaze on him, the shorter one turned his head and met your eyes. He looked you up and down before his friend stole his attention at the counter.
You remembered what you were meant to be doing and refocused on the machine in front of you.
‘Wouldn’t want to miss too much of the movie, better hurry this up,’ you thought as you moved the machine’s arm.
You decided you wanted the rubber duck that looked like a green T. rex and let the claw drop to pick it up.
“Wooo!!” You cheered as the machine picked up the weirdly positioned dinosaur on your first try.
“Clang!” The dinosaur was dropped into the plastic area of the machine. “Clang!”
‘That’s weird… Sounded like it fell twice..?’ you silently questioned.
You opened the compartment and reached your hand in. Sure enough you felt two rubber ducks. Pulling them out, you noticed that the machine had given you two of the same dinosaur ducks. You stared at the second duck in your hand in confusion.
‘It must have been picked up with my dinosaur and I just didn’t notice,’ you deduce. ‘But what should I do with it? I can’t watch the movie with TWO rubber ducks, that’s not right.’
You looked around the lobby and saw the two men, now at the counter paying for their popcorn and tickets. An idea popped into your head and you walked over to them.
“Hi, I’m sorry to interrupt you,” you started. “Long story short, that claw machine over there just gave me two ducks instead of one, so I came over here to give one to you. Paying the luck forwards you know? Anyways, have a good movie!”
You handed the shorter man the duck and started walking towards your movie theatre.
“Wait!” He lightly grabbed your arm to stop you. Succeeding in his attempt, you turned back around and tilted your head at him, confused.
“Hmm?” you hummed.
“You didn’t give me the chance to say thank you,” he chuckled softly. “My name is Sapnap, this is my friend George.”
“Nice to meet you! I’m Y/N.”
‘He smells good,’ you thought to yourself. ‘What is that smell though? I definitely recognize it.’
“Nice to meet you too, and thanks… for the dinosaur.” Sapnap smiled, looking down at it then back to you.
“No problem! But I’ve got to go, the movie is going to start any second now if it hasn’t already!” you said as you quickly left to go to theater five.
~~
“Are you going to have that stupid smile on your face for the rest of the day?” George asked Sapnap.
“What are you talking about?” Sapnap tried to push down the smile on his face, only for it to peak back through.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.” George scoffed. “You like them.”
“Quit it, I don’t like them,” Sapnap lied and started walking toward their theater, already late for the movie.
“You’ve talked to them once and now you’re in love!” George shook his head at his friend.
Sapnap rolled his eyes at George. “You’re so stupid. I’ve never been in love… Not seriously— at least”
The two walked on in a comfortable silence until they reached the door of their theater. They walked in and got a few isles down before Sapnap threw out his arm and stopped both of them in their tracks.
“What?” George questioned.
“Is that them over there?” Sapnap pointed at a person sitting in the front row.
“You’re not going to be doing this the whole movie are you?” George crossed his arms over his chest.
“I think it’s them!” Sapnap whispered, walking in their direction.
“Come watch a movie in the theater with me you said, it’ll be fun you said.” George mocked his friend, following a few steps behind him.

Update: “This one is hard to predict,” is the constant mantra this weekend among rival box office sources guesstimating the opening swing for Sam Wrench’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie. Friday is currently pegged in the $40M-$50M range with a big spread of $107M-$130M at 3,850 theaters. On the high-end, that could be the third biggest opening at the current 2023 domestic B.O. after Barbie ($162m) and Super Mario Bros 3-day of $146.3M. Added another source about Eras Tour outlook: “Prepare for us to be wrong.”
Why is a Swift concert film calculus to box office bean counters instead of weekly algebra when it comes to projections? Basically, there’s an enormous amount of frontloaded presales here, plus the x-factor is how many walk-ups occur. Add to that the standard drops on Saturday night with a young-female skewing title. One source has Eras Tour tracking ahead of Barbie‘s pure Friday gross (less $22.3M Thursday previews), which was $48.2M. That said, no one is expecting Swift here to play out like Barbie which fashion-walked to a $162M opening. We’ll have more updates as they come.
Meanwhile, haters aren’t going to hate: Critics on Rotten Tomatoes are giving Eras Tour a 100% score. AMC isn’t sending out official figures until tomorrow.
Early Screen Engine/Comscore PostTrak from last night, which was combed from $2.8M previews, gave Eras Tours five stars or 95% positive. Parents gave it 4 stars and kids under 12, 5 stars. Thursday night leaned 76% women with females under 25 at 42%, females over 25 at 34% and guys way behind at 15% over 25 and 9% under. Moms, natch, outnumbered Dads, 67% to 33% with an jawdropping 95% girls making up the majority of kids under 12. Best grades are women over 25 (100%) and under (97%) while men over 25 grit their teeth for 2 hours and 48 minutes giving Eras Tour its lowest grade of 78%. Note these exits will shift during the weekend.
Previous: The AMC distributed Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert movie officially made $2.8M in Thursday night previews.
We told you last night that the rough estimate was below $5M. The pic played in 2,700 theatres with showings last night beginning at 6 p.m. local time.
Remember, these previews aren’t indicative of how the weekend will go. Projections of $100M+ stateside still stand at 3,855 theaters. Swift announced Wednesday night moments before her premiere that she was pivoting her lucky 13 release date plan of Friday 6PM to Thursday night previews for the Sam Wrench directed movie. In certain places, advance tickets for the concert film last night didn’t go on sale until six to eight hours before showtime.
There are technically no comps to last night, not only because of the last-minute addition of Thursday previews, but also there haven’t been many wide release concert movies in the preview millennium era of box office. Interestingly enough, the midnight showtime starts for Michael Jackson concert docu, This Is It, drew $2.2M on its Tuesday night, Oct. 27, before posting a $7.4M Wednesday and $34.4M five-day.
The last minute showtimes for Eras Tour didn’t take too much air out of the sleepy autumn box office with Universal/Blumhouse/Morgan Creek’s The Exorcist: Believer earning an estimated $1.3M yesterday at 3,663 theaters, -9% from Wednesday for a first week of $33.9M.
Lionsgate’s Saw X at 3,262 theaters did $729K yesterday, +1% from Wednesday, and $11.3M in week 2 and $35.7M running cume.
Paramount and Spin Master’s second week of Paw Patrol: The Might Movie earned $15.8M after a second Thursday of $620K, +2%, at 4,027 theaters. The animated pic’s running total is $42.8M.
New Regency/20th Century Studios/Disney’s The Creator at 3,680 theaters grossed $571K on Thursday, even with Wednesday, with a second week of $9.3M and a running total of $28M.
Fathom Events’ The Blind saw $271K at 1,312 theaters, and a second week of $4.5M and a running total of $11.9M.

You are so purposefully obtuse. Such an expert at nothing lmao
Just a quick suggestion.
Google ‘Chiefs AMC sponsorship’ and ‘Scott Swift AMC’
Better yet, you can read it in this handy guide:
Oh, who am I kidding? You won’t read that. Anywho, have a good night! 😁

You've said before that you're a Marvel/MCU fan. I'm curious, what are your favorite MCU movies?
Thing is... I only got into the MCU around 2011, with Thor. And even then, I wasn't really interested until the first Avengers film came out.
At my core, I'm an X-Men movies fan. Those were the superhero films I originally liked, still love them all except for Dark Phoenix and New Mutants (and even then, I forgive those two for being butchered through reshoots, due to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox).
Before I actually got into Marvel comics in general, I had only read a few comic collections released by the italian Repubblica newspaper.
Tumblr media
So I was familiar with classics like Days of Future Past, Frank Miller's Daredevil stories, I knew who characters like Cassandra Nova and Franklin Richards were, but I wasn't more of a reader than a fan.
Then I read the first volume Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men (also in Italian), and wow, the X-Men are actually interesting and 3-dimensional. Okay.
Then, years later, I come across a French issue of Wolverine that collected (1 French issue collects 2-3 American issues):
Final part of Get Mystique,
Final part of the Deadpool arc of Wolverine: Origins.
And the following issue had the first part of Old Man Logan.
So immediately I have a whole bunch of questions. Wolverine has a son?! And who is this hilarious Spider-Man lookalike? Wait, so Mystique and Wolverine are how old? And woah, wtf, why are Hulk's kids such assholes? And who's this blind archer dude?
And boom, I'm down the rabbit hole.
But with that context, it's easy to see why, for me, there hasn't ever been an MCU film that ranked above an 8/10, bar a few exceptions.
I'll enjoy them because I enjoy the genre, so most MCU films will rank between 5 and 8. I like RDJ's Iron Man, Ruffalo's Hulk is an adorable nerd, Loki is cool, etc, but those films just don't feature the characters I fell in love with.
I can acknowledge that Winter Soldier is objectively a good film. Black Panther is an excellent one too. But they're both 8/10 in my book, no more. Put Wolverine in Winter Soldier or Ororo in Black Panther and I'd give those films a 10.
The above-mentioned exceptions - in terms of what got the best emotional reactions out of me - are:
Avengers - Infinity War (9/10) and Endgame (10/10, I don't care what anyone says, when I went to see it on opening night, the audience in the AMC Theater was louder and wilder than that of a football stadium and I'm here for that! Geek power!)
Avengers (9/10)
Spider-Man - No Way Home (9/10)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (9/10)

I'm bored so it's storytime again, let me tell you all about the time I once almost got murdered in an AMC theater.
I once accidentally showed up way too early to meet my two friends to see a movie on a Tuesday afternoon - I'd thought my friend said that the movie started at 12:15 in her text, but it actually started at 2:15. I was trying to save money, so instead of mindlessly shopping I realized that It Comes at Night was playing at like 12:30 or whatever, and was the perfect length of time for me to chill and enjoy another movie before my friends showed up. Great!
So I'm chilling now, it's noon on a Tuesday so I have the entire theater to myself. I've got my feet up, snacks arranged, this is the LIFE. The movie's kind of eh, but entertaining enough to hold my attention until another person entered the dark, empty theater about an hour after the movie had started. I assumed it was an employee cleaning or something, but instead of doing that, this person walked directly to the seat RIGHT beside me in an otherwise entirely empty theater, and sat down.
Y'all ever been a woman? Y'all ever just know? Technically speaking, this man hadn't done a thing wrong. He hadn't hurt me, scared me, he hadn't even spoken to me. He'd just walked into an empty movie theater for a movie that had started an hour ago and sat down, but every single alarm in my head was going off. Within five minutes, I was out of my seat, finding an employee to explain that dude was fine technically, but I was creeped out.
So the employee was obviously confused about why he'd want to see a half-done movie on the big screen, and she said, "He probably just got lost and wandered into the wrong theater, it happens. He's probably as confused as you right now. I'll go talk to him."
This was not the case.
She goes to speak to him. "Hi Sir, we just wanted to make sure you were in the right theater? This movie started an hour ago, can I check your ticket super quick?"
The man in question immediately launched himself out of his seat, shrieking WILDLY about FUCKING BITCH FUCKING BITCHES GONNA KILL THESE FUCKING WHORES and now we're both reeling backwards, screaming, terrified, and mall security is running into the theater. Mall security tells him that he needs to empty his BULGING pockets right now or they're calling the police. His response?
"FUCKING BITCH WHORE CUNTS FUCKING BITCHES FUCKING KIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLL YOU!"
They called the police. The police showed up. Made him empty said pockets.
Zip ties, a sharpened-down screwdriver, a mysterious reeking liquid substance in some kind of....sealed baggie, I guess? and best of all, a fucking flip knife. The entire time he's yanking all of this out of his pockets, screaming at me, the employee, the police officers, everyone. Obviously at this point they're handcuffing him, and they ask me, pleading with their eyes, if I want to press charges. ACAB, so I said, "I mean, what could I press charges for, officer? He walked into an empty theater, sat down, got weird, started screaming, scared us briefly. I doubt any judge would give a shit."
Then he lunged.
He was aiming for me, but he was also high as shit on crack cocaine, I later learned, so he only succeeded in flailing clumsily into one of the reclining AMC seats in the second row, where I'd been. I didn't even really need to jump back, he was so off, but that was when the officer he'd nearly just punched in the throat had enough and dragged him off. Now it's CHAOS, he's screaming and I'm screaming and the cops are screaming and the employees are screaming, EVERYONE'S SCREAMING AND FLAILING WILDLY.
"For the love of christ, PLEASE press charges so we can get this guy off the streets," one of the cops said.
"For what, the weekend? He'll be out by Monday."
The officer looked at me. I looked at the officer. His shoulders sagged, and he just mumbled, "...Fuck, man."
And that's the tale of how I was almost murdered in an AMC! 🔪🔪🔪

dude... movie tickets prices r kinda crazy (´-﹏-`;) i bought two earlier for a basic 2D showing and it was $35 like HUH? and like... it's for a date and i do want some snacks so i will get food too, but I'm also like uhh I'm generally just. not going to go to the movie theater and will probs avoid it going forward especially since things only seem to get more expensive in this stupid country instead of ever getting cheaper.
I'm sure it'll come out to somewhere around $60-$80 total when like. I have a ceiling mounted projector in my living room .... for no more than $20 bucks I could get a similar experience here AND we can smoke n cuddle and get trashed in private. and what, I just have to wait like a few months for it to come out or keep an eye out for a 3P stream.
i do not mind paying for the date itself at all, i am very happy to actually - i just think abt the strike going on and how these selfish bastards (studios and theaters) are squeezing EVERYONE for the most profit they can get.
paid streaming services suck, theaters are ridiculously pricey - as someone who stopped going almost entirely since 2016 - and it's just like y'all are BEGGING for us to just pirate and stream ur shit (ノ`⌒´)ノ┫:・┻┻
we need more theaters that aren't Regal and AMC, we need way more resources pumped into indie studios, we need new distribution networks that get the finished work to people who would want to see it without having to go through these greedy giants.
anyways. i just wanted to rant at no one in particular, I think I'm gonna start trying to host some movie nights at my place after figuring out what my friends are into.

Oscar nominee Dev Patel achieves an astonishing, tour-de-force feature directing debut with an action thriller about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless. Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Film: THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE (d. İlker Çatak, 2023, Germany)
Forum: AMC River East  Format: DCP
Observations: I can recommend THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE (d. İlker Çatak, 2023, Germany), one of the current Academy Award nominees for Best International Film (saw it at the theater last night). It shares a storyline with two other recent releases, MONSTER (d. Hirokazu Kore-eda, 2023, Japan) and ABOUT DRY GRASSES (d. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, 2023, Turkey-France-Germany), of how an accusation in a middle-school spirals out of control. While it's not on the same scale of complexity or narrative skill as the other films, it's still a nice, tightly-wound, well-acted bit of storytelling that runs a blessedly lean 98 minutes. Only three others in attendance at this 7:45pm screening.

The Movie Masters! for American Movie Classics 1989
Albie Hecht (executive producer & co-creator): “My favorite!”
Christine Ecklund (producer/writer): “Wow. Bet I can still answer every question. (“Ucipital Mapilary”)“
Before Mad Men, before Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, AMC was actually “American Movie Classics,” the Turner Classic Movies of its time, a cable channel exclusively focused on, duh, movies from the heyday of Hollywood. (In fact, the former head of AMC programming created TMC.)
Towards the end of the 80s, channels that relied on acquired, cost efficient stuff like AMC (or Nick-at-Night or USA or even MTV) were realizing that advertisers and cable operators were on the hunt for programming that could excite viewers.
The Movie Masters was one of AMC’s first jump into the pool, and obviously, it wasn’t the approach that worked like crazy for them. Fred/Alan’s primary Showtime client, Josh Sapan, had become AMC’s leader and thought that our Chauncey Street Productions had an idea for a network series.
Original television production, even when it’s done efficiently, is pretty expensive. And the explosion of cable TV had exploded in terms of dozens of channels, but it was still trying to figure out how to make enough money to thrive. The financial picture wouldn’t really come into it’s own until the end of the 1990′s. All the networks we worked with over the years approached originals very gingerly, and American Movie Classics was one of the most, um, fiscally careful.
Well, Chauncey Street was a perfect fit for a deliberate situation. We were still feeling our way in series production and we were well aware we weren’t yet booking the big gigs.
Chauncey Street majordomo Albie Hecht loved game shows (CSP went on to produce Turn It Up! for MTV, Kid’s Court and GUTS for Nickelodeon, and Albie oversaw many more as president of Nickelodeon production). He and Alan created the idea for The Movie Masters, with the notion that it would recreate the salad days of broadcast network quiz shows.
To that end we ran dozens of casting calls at our office, talking to everyone from Betty Comden and Margaret Whiting, before coming to the conclusion that we’d replicate a classic quiz show line up (American Movie Classics, right!). The production landed on The Match Game’s Gene Rayburn as host, and actress and veteran quiz panelist Peggy Cass, New York Times’ theater critic Clive Barnes, and actress and To Tell the Truth stalwart Kitty Carlisle as contestants.
The production came off with only a few hitches and delivered on time and on budget. It was a hoot working with such revered acting, writing and television royalty. AMC would eventually find their way to “prestige” TV, but as far as we were concerned, we did a wonderful job in the name of the greatest movies of all time.

grown [groan]
Today I woke up, had cleared all my work the night before. Took care of the dog, checked digital usuals, so went to the movies. Dude tried to refuse my moviepass, but I am not one to be clowned upon. Like why are you mad I don't use AMC stubs, guy, what's it to ya lmao. I watched You Hurt My Feelings with Julia Louis Dreyfus. She was primo, it was prickly, powerful. I picked it because it was 90 mins, but didn't know it was A24 til it started. They don't miss, like HBO and FX. Recently pirated The Whale. Saw Beef too of course. That's like the first time I've felt seen, deeply, in the contemporary media. But my old pastor Danny told me the fable of Beef long before, his road rage incident just outside of Rio, where the theater is. So I've known what it is for some time. (Before I left the boardwalk I bought a coral-ocean resin slate, it was nostalgic). Before he showed me it was shameful, ma and dad have static too. I forgot that curse for a good year and a half. But leading up to the broken foot I was hitting this ceiling with Wella, and I was getting hard. So I think a lot about how well-situated the injury ended up being. We went from like five miles a day to less than one so it's been tough, but she's adjusted so beautifully. She's such a fucking friend. A month before moving, we are resuming regular routines, and we both are just a touch more in control, in ways nobody else would notice. If I ever say I'm blessed what I mean is I'm the luckiest, because I didn't deserve this home, this job, this dog. Every day I wake up with this fool and we get shit done, eat good, sleep good. I feel better in the head than just about ever, barring two years. I've learned to love what I do even when it's small. I know things are gonna frick again soon. We already packed
